Near-threshold photon-proton production of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$

We study the near-threshold exclusive photoproduction of heavy vector mesons (quarkonia $J/ψ$ and $Υ$) off the proton within the framework of generalized parton distribution (GPD) factorization. The gluon GPDs are computed using a spectator model in which the proton emits a gluon and the remaining constituents are treated as a single spectator particle. Model parameters are determined by fitting the gluon unpolarized and helicity collinear parton distribution functions (PDFs) from global analyses. We compare our results with the latest near-threshold $J/ψ$ production data from the GlueX and $J/ψ$-007 experiments at Jefferson Laboratory, finding good agreement for both differential and total cross sections. Predictions are also provided for $Υ$ photoproduction, which can be tested at future Electron-Ion Colliders.

Elastic and inelastic $J/ψ$ photoproduction in $p$-$p$ collisions at LHC energies: the feature of Weizsäcker-Williams approximation

The $J/ψ$ production originating from elastic and inelastic photoproduction processes in p-p collisions at LHC energies is investigated, where the fragmentation processes are involved. An exact treatment is performed, which adopts the Martin-Ryskin method to weight the contribution from different channels, and can return to Weizsäcker-Williams approximation (WWA) when $Q^{2}\rightarrow0$. The relevant kinematical relations are also achieved. We present a comprehensive analysis for the feature of WWA by comparing with the exact treatment. The results are expressed in $Q^{2}$, $y$, $z$, $p_{T}$, and $y_{r}$ (rapidity) distributions, and the total cross sections are also estimated. The numerical results indicate that, the incoherent-photon emission can provide the meaningful contribution to elastic photoproduction, and starts to play a very important role in the inelastic processes. The photoproduction and fragmentation processes can improve the contribution of $J/ψ$ production in $p$-$p$ collisions at LHC energies. Moreover, the WWA is only effective in very restricted domains, and the exact treatment is needed to deal accurately with the $J/ψ$ photoproduction, which can naturally avoid double counting and WWA errors.

Quark spin-orbit correlations in the pion meson in light-cone quark model

We study the correlation between the quark spin and orbital angular momentum inside the pion meson. Similar to the case inside the nucleon, the longitudinal spin-orbit correlation $C_z^{q/π}$ in pion meson can be expressed in terms of the corresponding generalized parton distributions (GPDs) and generalized transverse momentum distributions (GTMDs). This provides new information about the spin structure of the pion. Using the wavefunctions of the pion in the light-cone quark model and the overlap representation for GPDs and GTMDs, we present the analytical results for the quark longitudinal spin-orbit correlation. We find that the GPD approach and the GTMD approach lead to the same results. The numerical results is also obtained, showing that the correlation in pion is anti-aligned. In addition, we compare $C_z^{q/π}$ from the GPD approach and the GTMD approach, with $x$ and the transverse momentum $k_T$ unintegrated.

Sivers function of sea quarks in the light-cone model

We calculate the Sivers function of $\bar{u}$ and $\bar{d}$ quarks using the overlap representation within the light-cone formalism. The light-cone wave functions of the proton is obtained in terms of the $|\bar{q} q B\rangle$ Fock states motivated by the meson-baryon fluctuation model. We consider the final-state interaction at the level of one gluon exchange. In a simplified scenario, the Sivers function of $\bar{u}$ and $\bar{d}$ can be expressed as the convolution of the Sivers function of the pion inside the proton and the unpolarized distribution of $\bar{q}$ inside the pion. The model parameters are fixed by fitting the unpolarized sea quark distributions to the known parameterizations. We present the numerical results for $f_1^{\perp \bar{u}/p}(x,\boldsymbol{k}_T^2)$ and $f_1^{\perp \bar{d}/p}(x,\boldsymbol{k}_T^2)$. The first transverse moment of the sea quark Sivers functions in our model are find to be negative and the magnitude is about 0.004 at most.

The $\sin2ϕ_h$ azimuthal asymmetry of pion production in SIDIS within TMD factorization

We study the $\sin2ϕ_h$ azimuthal asymmetry of charged and neutral pion productions off the longitudinally polarized nucleon targets in semi-inclusive deeply inelastic scattering (SIDIS) process within the transverse momentum dependent~(TMD) factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the TMD distribution $h_{1L}^{\perp}$ and the Collins fragmentation function $H_{1}^\perp$. We adopt the Wandzura-Wilczek-type~(WW-type) approximation for $h_{1L}^{\perp}$ and two different parametrizations on the nonperturbative part of TMD evolution for $h_{1L}^{\perp}$ and $H_{1}^\perp$. We numerically estimate the asymmetry in the kinematical configurations available at HERMES, CLAS and CLAS12. It is shown that our theoretical calculation can describe the HERMES and CLAS data, except the asymmetry of the $π^-$ production off proton target at HERMES and CLAS. We also find that different choices of the nonperturbative part of TMD evolution lead qualitatively similar results.

Validity of equivalent photon spectra and the photoproduction processes in p-p collisions

Through a consistent analysis of the terms neglected in going from the accurate expression to the one of Weizsäcker-Williams approximation (WWA), the validity of equivalent photon spectra is studied, and a modified photon flux of proton is also derived. We take the photoproductions of photons and dileptons as examples, to provide the comparison between the exact results and the ones based on various photon fluxes. We present the results for the distributions in $Q^{2}$ (virtuality of photons), $y$ and $p_{T}$, the total cross sections are also estimated. The numerical results show that the modified equivalent photon spectrum reproduces the exact result within less than one percent. And the corrections of photoproduction processes to the dileptons and photons productions are about $20\%$.

The Collins asymmetry in electroproduction of Kaon at the electron ion colliders within TMD factorization

We apply the transverse momentum dependent factorization formalism to investigate the transverse single spin dependent Collins asymmetry with a $\sin(ϕ_h+ϕ_s)$ modulation in the semi-inclusive production of Kaon meson in deep inelastic scattering process. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolutions of the transversity distribution function $h_1(x)$ of the target proton and the Collins function of the Kaon in the final state. We adopt the available parametrization of $h_1(x)$ as well as the recent extracted result for the Kaon Collins function. To perform the transverse momentum dependent evolution, the parametrization of the nonperturbative Sudakov form factor of the proton and final state Kaon are utilized. We numerically predict the Collins asymmetry for charged Kaon production at the electron ion colliders within the accuracy of next-to-leading-logarithmic order. It is found that the asymmetry is sizable and could be measured. We emphasize the importance of planned electron ion colliders in the aspect of constraining sea quark distribution functions as well as accessing the information of the nucleon spin structure and the hadronization mechanism.

Quasi parton distribution function and quasi generalized parton distribution of the pion meson in a spectator model

We study the leading-twist quasi parton distribution function (quasi-PDF) and quasi generalize parton distribution (quasi-GPD) of the pion meson by using a spectator model. We consider the case the quasi functions are defined via inserting the matrix $γ^3$ in the spacial correlation functions. We obtain the analytical expressions for the quasi-PDF and quasi-GPD. The numerical results for them are calculated from the parameters obtained by fitting the model results to the known parametrization. Particularly, we investigate the hadron momentum dependence of the quasi functions as well as compare the quasi distributions to the standard functions at different hadron momentum. We find that in the region $x>0.2$, the quasi distribution are similar to the standard distributions in size and shape when the hadron momentum is larger than $2$ GeV. Our study thus supports the idea of using quasi distributions to obtain standard distributions.

The $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ azimuthal asymmetry in the pion induced Drell-Yan process within TMD factorization

We investigate the single transverse-spin asymmetry with a $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ modulation in the pion-induced Drell-Yan process within the theoretical framework of the transverse momentum dependent factorization. The asymmetry is contributed by the convolution of the Boer-Mulders function and the transversity. We adopt the model results for the distributions of the pion meson from the light-cone wavefunction approach and the available parametrization for the distributions of the proton to numerically estimate the $\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ asymmetry in $π^- p$ Drell-Yan at the kinematics of the COMPASS at CERN. To implement the TMD evolution formalism of parton distribution functions, we apply the recently extracted nonperturbative Sudakov form factor associated with the distribution functions of the proton and the pion. It is found that our prediction on the single transverse-spin dependent asymmetry ${\sin (2ϕ-ϕ_S)}$ as functions of $x_p$, $x_π$, $x_F$ and $q_\perp$ is qualitatively consistent with the recent COMPASS measurement in both sign and magnitude.

Double-spin asymmetry $A^{\cosϕ_S}_{LT}$ in semi-inclusive DIS at CLAS12 and EIC within the collinear framework

We study the longitudinal-transverse double-spin asymmetry with a $\cosϕ_S$ modulation in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering for charged and neutral pions production. We consider the particular case in which the transverse momentum of the final state hadron is integrated out. The corresponding asymmetry may be contributed by two parts: one is the convolution of the twist-3 distribution function $g_{T}(x)$ and the unpolarized fragmentation function $D_1(z)$, the other is related to the coupling of the transversity distribution function $h_1(x)$ and the collinear twist-3 fragmentation function $\tilde{E}(z)$. We take into account both contributions to predict the $\cosϕ_S$ asymmetry at the kinematics of CLAS12 and a future Electron Ion Collider. We find that the asymmetry of pion production at CLAS12 is sizable, and $\tilde{E}(z)$ can play an important role in the asymmetry in the large-$z$ region.

Gluon Sivers function in a light-cone spectator model

We calculate the gluon Sivers function of the proton in the valence-$x$ region using a light-cone spectator model with the presence of the gluon degree of freedom. We obtain the values of the parameters by fitting the model resulting gluon density distribution to the known parametrization. We find that our results agree with the recent phenomenological extraction of the gluon Sivers function after considering the evolution effect. We also estimate the mean transverse momentum of the gluon in a transversely polarized proton and find that it is within the range implied by the Burkardt sum rule.

Predicting the $\sinϕ_S$ Transverse Single-spin Asymmetry of Pion Production at an Electron Ion Collider

We study the transverse single-spin asymmetry with a $\sinϕ_S$ modulation in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering. Particularly, we consider the case in which the transverse momentum of the final state hadron is integrated out. Thus, the asymmetry is merely contributed by the coupling of the transversity distribution function $h_1(x)$ and the twist-3 collinear fragmentation function $\tilde{H}(z)$. Using the available parametrization of $h_1(x)$ from SIDIS data and the recent extracted result for $\tilde{H}(z)$, we predict the $\sinϕ_S$ asymmetry for charged and neutral pion production at an Electron Ion Collider. We find that the asymmetry is sizable and could be measured. We also study the impact of the leading-order QCD evolution effect and find that it affects the $\sinϕ_S$ asymmetry at EIC considerably.

Twist-3 fragmentation functions in a spectator model with gluon rescattering

We study the twist-3 fragmentation functions $H$ and $\tilde{H}$, by applying a spectator model. In the calculation we consider the effect of the gluon rescattering at one loop level. We find that in this case the hard-vertex diagram, which gives zero contribution to the Collins function, does contribute to the fragmentation function $H$. The calculation shows that the twist-3 T-odd fragmentation functions are free of light-cone divergences. The parameters of the model are fitted from the known parametrization of the unpolarized fragmentation $D_1$ and the Collins function $H_1^\perp$. We find our result for the favored fragmentation function is consistent with the recent extraction on $H$ and $\tilde{H}$ from pp data. We also check numerically the equation of motion relation for $H$, $\tilde{H}$ and find that relation holds fairly well in the spectator model.

Twist-3 T-odd fragmentation functions $G^\perp$ and $\tilde{G}^\perp$ in a spectator model

We present a calculation of the twist-3 T-odd chiral-even fragmentation functions $G^{\perp}$ and $\tilde{G}^{\perp}$ using a spectator model. We consider the effect gluon exchange to calculate all necessary one-loop diagrams for the quark-quark and quark-gluon-quark correlation functions. We find that the gluon loops corrections generate non-zero contribution to these two fragmentation function. We numerically calculate their half-$k_T$ moments by integrating over the transverse momentum and also verify the equation of motion relation among $G^{\perp}$, $\tilde{G}^{\perp}$ and the Collins function.

A phenomenological study on the $\cosϕ_h$ azimuthal asymmetry in double longitudinally Polarized SIDIS

We study the $\cos{ϕ_h}$ azimuthal asymmetry in double polarized semi-inclusive pion production by considering dynamical twist-3 effects. In particular, we evaluate the role of the transverse momentum dependent distributions $e_L(x, k_T^2)$ and $g_L^\perp(x, k_T^2)$ on the asymmetry. Using two different sets of spectator model results for these distributions, we predict the $\cos{ϕ_h}$ asymmetry of $π^+$, $π^-$, and $π^0$ at the kinematic configuration available at CLAS, HERMES and COMPASS. Our estimates show that the asymmetries are positive for all the pions and could be accessed by CLAS and HERMES. We also find that $g_L^\perp$ gives the dominant contribution to the $\cosϕ_h$ asymmetry, while the contribution of $e_L$ is almost negligible.

Double Spin Asymmetries $A_{LT}^{\cosϕ_S}$ and $A_{LT}^{\cos(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)}$ in semi-inclusive DIS

We investigate the double spin asymmetries of pion production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering with a longitudinal polarized beam off a transversely polarized proton target. Particularly, we consider the $\cosϕ_S$ and $\cos(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)$ modulations, which can be interpreted by the convolution of the twist-3 transverse momentum dependent distributions and twist-2 fragmentation functions. Three different origins are taken into account simultaneously for each asymmetry: the $g_T D_1$ term, the $e_T H_1^\perp$ term, and the $e_T^\perp H_1^\perp$ term in the $\cosϕ_S$ asymmetry; and the $g_T^\perp D_1$ term, the $e_T H_1^\perp$ term, and the $e_T^\perp H_1^\perp$ term in the $\cos(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)$ asymmetry. We calculate the four twist-3 distributions $g_T(x,\boldsymbol{k}_T^2)$, $g_T^\perp(x,\boldsymbol{k}_T^2)$, $e_T(x,\boldsymbol{k}_T^2)$, and $e_T^\perp(x,\boldsymbol{k}_T^2)$ in a spectator-diquark model including vector diquarks. Then we predict the two corresponding asymmetries for charged and neutral pions at the kinematics of HERMES, JLab, and COMPASS for the first time. The numerical estimates indicate that the two different angular-dependence asymmetries are sizable by several percent at HERMES and JLab, and the $\cosϕ_S$ asymmetry has a strong dependence on the Bjorken $x$. Our predictions also show that the dominant contribution to the $\cosϕ_S$ asymmetry comes from the $g_T D_1$ term, while the $g_T^\perp D_1$ term gives the main contribution to the $\cos(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)$ asymmetry; the other two $T$-odd terms almost give negligible contributions. In particular, the $\cos(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)$ asymmetry provides a unique opportunity to probe the distribution $g_T^\perp$.

On the beam spin asymmetries of electroproduction of charged hadrons off the nucleon targets

We study the beam single-spin asymmetries $A_{LU}^{\sinϕ_h}$ for charged hadrons produced in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process, by considering the $e H_1^\perp$ term and the $g^\perp D_1$ term simultaneously. Besides the asymmetries for charged pions, for the first time we present the analysis on the asymmetries in the production of charged kaons, protons and antiprotons by longitudinally polarized leptons scattered off unpolarized proton and deuteron targets. In our calculation we use two sets of transverse momentum dependent distributions $g^\perp(x,\bm k_T^2)$ and $e(x,\bm k_T^2)$ calculated from two different spectator models, and compare the numerical results with the preliminary data recently obtained by the HERMES Collaboration. We also predict the beam spin asymmetries for $π^\pm$, $K^\pm$, $p/\bar{p}$ electroproduction in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering of 12 GeV polarized electrons from unpolarized proton and deuteron targets.

Single-spin asymmetries in electroproduction of pions on the longitudinally polarized nucleon targets

We study the single-spin asymmetries of pions produced in semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering on the longitudinally polarized nucleon targets. We particularly consider the effects of the twist-3 transverse-momentum dependent distribution functions $f_L^\perp$ and $h_L$ to the asymmetry. We calculate the asymmetric moment $A_{UL}^{\sinϕ_h}$ for $π^+$, $π^-$ and $π^0$ produced off the proton target at HERMES and compare the results with the HERMES data. We also present the prediction of the same asymmetries for different pions at the kinematics of CLAS 5.5 GeV on a proton target, as well as at COMPASS on a deuteron target.

Transverse single-spin asymmetries of pion production in semi-inclusive DIS at subleading twist

We study the single-spin asymmetries with the $\sinϕ_S$ and $\sin(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)$ angular dependences for charged and neutral pions produced in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering on the transversely polarized proton target. The theoretical interpretations of the two asymmetries are presented in terms of the convolution of the twist-3 quark transverse momentum dependent distributions and twist-2 fragmentation functions. Specifically, we investigate the role of the distributions $f_T$, $h_T$ and $h_T^\perp$ in the $\sinϕ_S$ asymmetry, as well as the role of the distributions $f_T^\perp$, $h_T$ and $h_T^\perp$ in the $\sin(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)$ asymmetry. We calculate these distributions in a spectator-diquark model and predict the corresponding asymmetries for the first time, considering the kinematics at HERMES, JLab and COMPASS. The numerical estimates show that the asymmetries are sizable, and the dominant contribution to the $\sinϕ_S$ asymmetry comes from the T-odd distribution $f_T$, while $f_T^\perp$ gives the main contribution to the $\sin(2ϕ_h -ϕ_S)$ asymmetry. The future measurements on these asymmetries can shed light on the information of twist-3 transverse momentum dependent distributions.

Beam single spin asymmetry of neutral pion production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering

We study the beam spin asymmetry $A_{LU}^{\sinϕ_h}$ in semi-inclusive $π^0$ electroproduction contributed by the T-odd twist-3 distribution function $g^\perp(x,k_T^2)$. We calculate this transverse momentum dependent distribution function for the $u$ and $d$ quarks inside the proton in a spectator model including the scalar and the axial-vector diquark components. Using the model results, we estimate the asymmetry $A_{LU}^{\sinϕ_h}$ in the $e p \rightarrow e^\prime π^0 X$ process in which the lepton beam is longitudinally polarized. The model prediction is compared with the data measured by the CLAS and the HERMES Collaborations and it is found that our numerical results agree with experimental data reasonably. Especially, our results can well describe the CLAS data at the region where the Bjorken $x$ and the pion transverse momentum is not large. We also make a prediction on the asymmetry $A_{LU}^{\sinϕ_h}$ in a $π^0$ electroproduction at CLAS12 using the same model calculation.

Beam Spin Asymmetries of Charged and Neutral Pion Productions in Semi-inclusive DIS

We present a study on the beam single spin asymmetries $A_{LU}^{\sinϕ_h}$ of $π^+$, $π^-$ and $π^0$ production in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering process, by considering Collins effect and the $g^\perp D_1$ term simultaneously. We calculate the twist-3 distributions $e(x, \bm k_T^2)$ and $g^\perp(x,\bm k_T^2)$ for the valence quarks inside the proton in a spectator model. We consider two different options for the form of diquark propagator, as well as two different choices for the model parameters in the calculation. Using the model results, we estimate the beam spin asymmetries $A_{LU}^{\sinϕ_h}$ for the charged and neutral pions and compare the results with the measurement from the HERMES Collaboration. We also make predictions on the asymmetries at CLAS with a $5.5 \,\textrm{GeV}$ beam using the same model results. It is found that different choices for the diquark propagator will not only lead to different expressions for the distribution functions, but also result in different sizes of the asymmetries. Our study also shows that, although the spectator model calculation can describe the asymmetries for certain pion production in some kinematic regions, it seems difficult to explain the asymmetries of pion production for all three pions in a consistent way from the current versions.

Inflation in the Generalized Inverse Power Law Scenario

We propose a single field inflationary model by generalizing the inverse power law potential from the intermediate model. We study the implication of our model on the primordial anisotropy of cosmological microwave background radiation. Specifically, we apply the slow-roll approximation to calculate the scalar spectral tilt $n_s$ and the tensor-to-scalar ratio $r$. The results are compared with the recent data measured by the Planck satellite. We found that by choosing proper values for the parameters, our model can well describe the Planck data.

Quark helicity distributions in transverse momentum space and transverse coordinate space

The transverse momentum dependent helicity distributions of valence quarks are calculated in the light-cone diquark model by adopting two different approaches. We use the model results to analyze the $P_{h\perp}$-dependent double spin asymmetries for $π^+$, $π^-$ and $π^0$ productions in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering, and find that the asymmetries agree with the CLAS data in one of the approaches. By taking the Fourier transform of the transverse momentum dependent helicity distributions, we obtain the helicity distributions of valence quarks in the transverse coordinate space, and then apply them further to predict the Bessel-weighted double spin asymmetries of $π^+$, $π^-$ and $π^0$ productions in semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering at CLAS, COMPASS and HERMES for the first time. The shape of the Bessel-weighted double spin asymmetry thereby provides a direct probe on the transverse structure of longitudinally polarized quarks.

Boer-Mulders function of the pion in the MIT bag model

We apply the MIT bag model to study the Boer-Mulders function of the pion, a $T$-odd function that describes the transverse polarization distribution of the quark inside the pion. We simulate the effect of the gauge link through the "one-gluon-exchange" approximation. We consider both the quark helicity nonflip and double-flip contributions. The result in the MIT bag model is compared with those in the spectator models.

T-odd quark-gluon-quark correlation function in the diquark model

We study the transverse momentum dependent quark-gluon-quark correlation function. Using a spectator diquark model, we calculate the eight time-reversal-odd interaction-dependent twist-3 quark distributions appearing in the decomposition of the transverse momentum dependent quark-gluon-quark correlator. In order to obtain finite results, we assume a dipole form factor for the nucleon-quark-diquark coupling, instead of a point-like coupling. The results are compared with the time-reversal-odd interaction-independent twist-3 TMDs calculated in the same model.

Azimuthal asymmetries in single polarized proton-proton Drell-Yan processes

We study the azimuthal asymmetries in proton-proton Drell-Yan processes with one incident proton being transversely or longitudinally polarized. We consider particularly the asymmetries contributed by the leading-twist chiral-odd quark distributions. We analyze the asymmetries with $\sin(2ϕ+ϕ_S)$ and $\sin(2ϕ-ϕ_S)$ modulations in transverse single polarized $p^\uparrow p$ Drell-Yan and $\sin2ϕ$ asymmetries in longitudinal single polarized $p^\rightarrow p$ Drell-Yan at RHIC, J-PARC, E906 (Fermi Lab) and NICA (JINR). We show that the measurements of the asymmetries in those facilities can provide valuable information of the chiral-odd structure of the nucleon both in the valence and sea regions.

The $\cos2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry of unpolarized dilepton production at the $Z$-pole

We calculate the Boer-Mulders effect contribution to the $\cos2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry of unpolarized dilepton production near the $Z$-pole. Based on the tree-level expression in the transverse momentum dependent factorization framework, we show that the corresponding asymmetry near the $Z$-pole is negative, which is opposite to the asymmetry in the low $Q^2$ region, dominated by the production via a virtual photon. We calculate the asymmetry generated by the Boer-Mulders effect near the $Z$-pole at RHIC, with $\sqrt{s}=500$ GeV. We find that the magnitude of the asymmetry is several percent, and therefore it is measurable. The experimental confirmation of this sign change of the asymmetry from the low $Q^2$ region to the $Z$-pole provides direct evidence of the chiral odd structure of quarks inside an unpolarized nucleon.

The $\sin2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in single longitudinally polarized $πN$ Drell-Yan process

We study the $\sin2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetry in the $πN$ Drell-Yan process, when the nucleon is longitudinally polarized. The asymmetry is contributed by the combination of the Boer-Mulders function and the longitudinal transversity distribution function. We consider the Drell-Yan processes by $π^\pm$ beams colliding on the proton and deuteron targets, respectively. We calculate the $\sin2ϕ$ azimuthal asymmetries in these processes using the Boer-Mulders function and the longitudinal transversity from spectator models. We show that the study on single polarized $πN$ Drell-Yan processes can not only give the information on the new 3-dimensional parton distribution functions in momentum space, but also shed light on the chiral-odd structure of the longitudinally polarized nucleon.

Orbital structure of quarks inside the nucleon in the light-cone diquark model

We study the orbital angular momentum structure of the quarks inside the proton. By employing the light-cone diquark model and the overlap representation formalism, we calculate the chiral-even generalized parton distribution functions (GPDs) $H_q(x,ξ,Δ^2)$, $\widetilde{H}_q(x,ξ,Δ^2)$ and $E_q(x,ξ,Δ^2)$ at zero skewedness for $q=u$ and $d$ quarks. In our model $E_u$ and $E_d$ have opposite sign with similar size. Those GPDs are applied to calculate the orbital angular momentum (OAM) distributions, showing that $L_u(x)$ is positive, while $L_d(x)$ is consistent with zero compared with $L_u(x)$. We introduce the impact parameter dependence of the quark OAM distribution. It describes the position space distribution of the quark orbital angular momentum at given $x$. We found that the impact parameter dependence of the quark OAM distribution is axially symmetric in the light-cone diquark model.

Comparing AdS/CFT Calculations to HERA F_2 Data

We show that HERA data for the inclusive structure function F_2(x,Q^2) at small Bjorken-x and Q^2 can be reasonably well described by a color-dipole model with an AdS/CFT-inspired dipole-proton cross section. The model contains only three free parameters fitted to data. In our AdS/CFT-based parameterization the saturation scale varies in the range of 1-3 GeV becoming independent of energy/Bjorken-x at very small x. This leads to the prediction of x-independence of the F_2 and F_L structure functions at very small x. We provide predictions for F_2 and F_L in the kinematic regions of future experiments. We discuss the limitations of our approach and its applicability region, and argue that our AdS/CFT-based model of non-perturbative physics could be viewed as complimentary to the perturbative description of data based on saturation/Color Glass Condensate physics.

Pion pair production in $e^+e^-$ annihilation

We present an analysis of the process $e^+e^-\to V^*\toππγ$, where $V=γ$ or $V=Z$ boson, in the kinematical region where $\sqrt{s}$, the c.m. energy of the $e^+e^-$ pair, is large but much below the $Z$-pole. The subprocess $V^*\to ππγ$ can be described by the convolution of the hard scattering coefficient $V\to q \bar{q} γ$ and the general distribution amplitude of two pions $q\bar{q}\to ππ$. In the case of neutral pion production, $V=γ$ is the dominant process, which can therefore be used to access the GPAs of the pion, especially their $C$-even parts. The $γZ$ interference term provides an alternative approach to extract the weak mixing angle $\sin θ_W$ through measuring the helicity asymmetry in the process $e^+e^-\to π^0π^0γ$. In the case of charged pion pair production, the Bremsstrahlung process dominates and its interference with $e^+e^-\to γ^ \star \to π^+π^-γ$ can be applied to study the process $γ^ \star \to ππγ$ at the amplitude level.
