$\mathcal Z$-stability of $\mathrm{C}(X)\rtimesΓ$

Let $(X, Γ)$ be a free and minimal topological dynamical system, where $X$ is a separable compact Hausdorff space and $Γ$ is a countable infinite discrete amenable group. It is shown that if $(X, Γ)$ has the Uniform Rokhlin Property and Cuntz comparison of open sets, then $\mathrm{mdim}(X, Γ)=0$ implies that $(\mathrm{C}(X) \rtimesΓ)\otimes\mathcal Z \cong \mathrm{C}(X) \rtimesΓ$, where $\mathrm{mdim}$ is the mean dimension and $\mathcal Z$ is the Jiang-Su algebra. In particular, in this case, $\mathrm{mdim}(X, Γ)=0$ implies that the C*-algebra $\mathrm{C}(X) \rtimesΓ$ is classified by the Elliott invariant.

C*-algebras of a Cantor system with finitely many minimal subsets: structures, K-theories, and the index map

We study homeomorphisms of a Cantor set with $k$ ($k < +\infty$) minimal invariant closed (but not open) subsets; we also study crossed product C*-algebras associated to these Cantor systems and their certain orbit-cut sub-C*-algebras. In the case that $k\geq 2$, the crossed product C*-algebra is stably finite, has stable rank 2, and has real rank zero if in addition $(X, σ)$ is aperiodic. The image of the index map is connected to certain directed graphs arising from the Bratteli-Vershik-Kakutani model of the Cantor system. Using this, it is shown that the ideal of the Bratteli diagram (of the Bratteli-Vershik-Kakutani model) must have at least $k$ vertices at each level, and the image of the index map must consist infinitesimals.

Comparison radius and mean topological dimension: Rokhlin property, comparison of open sets, and subhomogeneous C*-algebras

Let $(X, Γ)$ be a free minimal dynamical system, where $X$ is a compact separable Hausdorff space and $Γ$ is a discrete amenable group. It is shown that, if $(X, Γ)$ has a version of Rokhlin property (uniform Rokhlin property) and if $\mathrm{C}(X)\rtimesΓ$ has a Cuntz comparison on open sets, then the comparison radius of the crossed product C*-algebra $\mathrm{C}(X) \rtimes Γ$ is at most half of the mean topological dimension of $(X, Γ)$. These two conditions are shown to be satisfied if $Γ= \mathbb Z$ or if $(X, Γ)$ is an extension of a free Cantor system and $Γ$ has subexponential growth. The main tools being used are Cuntz comparison of diagonal elements of a subhomogeneous C*-algebra and small subgroupoids.

Decomposition rank of approximately subhomogeneous C*-algebras

It is shown that every Jiang-Su stable approximately subhomogeneous C*-algebra has finite decomposition rank. Previously, it was not even known that such algebras have finite nuclear dimension. A key step in the proof is that subhomogeneous C*-algebra are locally approximated by a certain class of more tractable subhomogeneous algebras, namely, a non-commutative generalization of the class of cell complexes. The result is applied to show that Jiang-Su stable minimal Z-crossed products have finite decomposition rank.

The classification of simple separable KK-contractible C*-algebras with finite nuclear dimension

The class of simple separable KK-contractible (KK-equivalent to $\{0\}$) C*-algebras which have finite nuclear dimension is shown to classified by the Elliott invariant. In particular, the class of C*-algebras $A\otimes \mathcal W$ is classifiable, where $A$ is a simple separable C*-algebra with finite nuclear dimension and $\mathcal W$ is the simple inductive limit of Razak algebras with unique trace, which is bounded.

Classification of finite simple amenable ${\cal Z}$-stable $C^*$-algebras

We present a classification theorem for a class of unital simple separable amenable ${\cal Z}$-stable $C^*$-algebras by the Elliott invariant. This class of simple $C^*$-algebras exhausts all possible Elliott invariant for unital stably finite simple separable amenable ${\cal Z}$-stable $C^*$-algebras. Moreover, it contains all unital simple separable amenable $C^*$-alegbras which satisfy the UCT and have finite rational tracial rank.

The classification of simple separable unital locally ASH algebras

Let $A$ be a simple separable unital locally approximately subhomogeneous C*-algebra (locally ASH algebra). It is shown that $A\otimes Q$ can be tracially approximated by unital Elliott-Thomsen algebras with trivial $\textrm{K}_1$-group, where $Q$ is the universal UHF algebra. In particular, it follows that $A$ is classifiable by the Elliott invariant if $A$ is Jiang-Su stable.

Mean dimension and AH-algebras with diagonal maps

Mean dimension for AH-algebras is introduced. It is shown that if a simple unital AH-algebra with diagonal maps has mean dimension zero, then it has strict comparison on positive elements. In particular, the strict order on projections is determined by traces. Moreover, a lower bound of the mean dimension is given in term of comparison radius. Using classification results, if a simple unital AH-algebra with diagonal maps has mean dimension zero, it must be an AH-algebra without dimension growth. Two classes of AH-algebras are shown to have mean dimension zero: the class of AH-algebras with at most countably many extremal traces, and the class of AH-algebras with numbers of extreme traces which induce same state on the K0-group being uniformly bounded (in particular, this class includes AH-algebras with real rank zero).

Asymptotic unitary equivalence in $C^*$-algebras

Let $C=C(X)$ be the unital $C^*$-algebra of all continuous functions on a finite CW complex $X$ and let $A$ be a unital simple $C^*$-algebra with tracial rank at most one. We show that two unital monomorphisms $ϕ, ψ: C\to A$ are asymptotically unitarily equivalent, i.e., there exists a continuous path of unitaries $\{u_t: t\in [0,1)\}\subset A$ such that $$ \lim_{t\to 1} u_t^*ϕ(f)u_t=ψ(f) {\rm for all} \in C(X), $$ if and only if \beq [ϕ]&=&[ψ] {\rm in} KK(C, A), τ\circ ϕ&=&τ\circ ψ{\rm for all} τ\in T(A), and ϕ^†&=&ψ^†, \eneq where $T(A)$ is the simplex of tracial states of $A$ and $ϕ^†, ψ^†: U(M_{\infty}(C))/DU(M_{\infty}(C))\to$ $U(M_{\infty}(A))/DU(M_{\infty}(A))$ are induced homomorphisms and where $U(M_{\infty}(A))$ and $U(M_{\infty}(C))$ are groups of union of unitary groups of $M_k(A)$ and $M_k(C)$ for all integer $k\ge 1,$ $DU(M_{\infty}(A))$ and $DU(M_{\infty}(C))$ are commutator subgroups of $U(M_{\infty}(A))$ and $U(M_{\infty}(C)),$ respectively. We actually prove a more general result for the case that $C$ is any general unital AH-algebra.

Homomorphisms into a simple Z-stable C*-Algebras

Let $A$ and $B$ be unital separable simple amenable \CA s which satisfy the Universal Coefficient Theorem. Suppose {that} $A$ and $B$ are $\mathcal Z$-stable and are of rationally tracial rank no more than one. We prove the following: Suppose that $ϕ, ψ: A\to B$ are unital {monomorphisms}. There exists a sequence of unitaries $\{u_n\}\subset B$ such that $$ \lim_{n\to\infty} u_n^*ϕ(a) u_n=ψ(a)\tforal a\in A, $$ if and only if $$ [ϕ]=[ψ]\,\,\,\text{in}\,\,\, KL(A,B), ϕ_{\sharp}=ψ_{\sharp}\andeqnϕ^‡=ψ^‡, $$ where $ϕ_{\sharp}, ψ_{\sharp}: \aff(T(A))\to \aff(T(B))$ and $ϕ^‡, ψ^‡: U(A)/CU(A)\to U(B)/CU(B)$ are {the} induced maps and where $T(A)$ and $T(B)$ are tracial state spaces of $A$ and $B,$ and $CU(A)$ and $CU(B)$ are closure of {commutator} subgroups of unitary groups of $A$ and $B,$ respectively. We also show that this holds for some AH-algebras $A.$ {Moreover, if $κ\in KL(A,B)$ preserves the order and the identity, $λ: \aff(\tr(A))\to \aff(\tr(B))$ is a continuous affine map and $γ: U(A)/CU(A)\to U(B)/CU(B)$ is a \hm\, which are compatible, we also show that there is a unital \hm\, $ϕ: A\to B$ so that $([ϕ],ϕ_{\sharp},ϕ^‡)=(κ, λ, γ),$ at least in the case that $K_1(A)$ is a free group,
