Exploration of the computational model and the focusing process with a Flat Multi-channel Plate and a Curved Multi-channel Plate in the MATLAB

By simulating the X-ray paths and the Chapman Model of a flat multi-channel plate and a curved multi-channel plate in the MATLAB, the field of view, local reflection efficiency, spherical aberration, point-spread function, collection efficiency of incident X-ray and peak-to-background ratio on the focal plane of the two devices were compared. At the same time, the advantages and disadvantages of the flat multi-channel plate and the curved multi-channel plate were compared.

Recent neutron focusing experiments using polycapillary lens in CSNS

Higher neutron current densities can provide convenience for neutron experiments. Using neutron optical focusing elements, large flux beams transported to sample can be achieved. As one kind of focusing elements, polycapillary lens is very suitable for neutron absorption experiments such as PGAA and NDP technology. At present, a Neutron Physics and Application Spectrometer was in construction in CSNS, which is the first pulsed neutron source in China. To provide some suggestions and ideas for the following design of enhanced PGAA or NDP instrument with polycapillary lens in CSNS, a first neutron focusing experiment using polycapillary lens in CSNS was conducted. For 0.5-12.6 polychromatic beam, a focal spot with FWHM of 800 was obtained. As the value of wavelength increased, the beam size, transmission efficiency and gain increased. For cold neutron, the gain maintained in a level of 7.

Theoretical Simulation and Experiment Investigation of X-ray transmission characteristics though Square Polycapillary Slice Lens with quadratic curve

The x-ray polycapillary lens is an optical device with good optic performance. Similar to the traditional X-ray polycapillary lens, square polycapillary slice lens was regulated on X-ray based on the full reflection principle of X-ray in the capillaries surfaces. According to its geometrical structure model and the X-ray tracing principle, a set of X-ray transmission procedures was established. A complete square polycapillary slice lens with quadratic curve was produced and the optical performance was tested

Infections Forecasting and Intervention Effect Evaluation for COVID-19 via a Data-Driven Markov Process and Heterogeneous Simulation

The Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic has caused tremendous amount of deaths and a devastating impact on the economic development all over the world. Thus, it is paramount to control its further transmission, for which purpose it is necessary to find the mechanism of its transmission process and evaluate the effect of different control strategies. To deal with these issues, we describe the transmission of COVID-19 as an explosive Markov process with four parameters. The state transitions of the proposed Markov process can clearly disclose the terrible explosion and complex heterogeneity of COVID-19. Based on this, we further propose a simulation approach with heterogeneous infections. Experimentations show that our approach can closely track the real transmission process of COVID-19, disclose its transmission mechanism, and forecast the transmission under different non-drug intervention strategies. More importantly, our approach can helpfully develop effective strategies for controlling COVID-19 and appropriately compare their control effect in different countries/cities.

Quantitative analysis of intermediately and infinitely thick samples with thin sample approach without sample preparation using confocal X-ray fluorescence

In order to validate that the confocal X-ray fluorescence had potential applications in analyzing the intermediately and infinitely thick samples with thin sample approach without sample preparations, as an example, the confocal X-ray fluorescence based on polycapillary X-ray optics was used to analyze multi elements solutions.

AdS cycles in eternally inflating background

In the eternally inflating background, the bubbles with AdS vacua will crunch. However, this crunch might be followed by a bounce. It is generally thought that the bubble universe may be cyclic, which will go through a sequence of AdS crunches, until the field inside bubble finally lands at a dS minimum. However, we show that due to the amplification of field fluctuation, the bubble universe going through AdS cycles will inevitably fragment within two or three cycles. We discuss its implication to the eternal inflation scenario.

Pre-inflationary genesis with CMB B-mode polarization

Recent B-mode polarization observation seems to imply the tensor tilt $n_T\gtrsim 1$ at large angular scale, if the primordial signal is dominated. We show that for a primordial universe, which is in a slowly expanding genesis phase before the slow-roll inflation, the primordial tensor spectrum will get a large-scale cutoff, i.e. $n_T\gtrsim 1$ at large scales while $n_T\simeq 0$ at small scale. We find that this inflationary scenario not only may be consistent with the observation, but also predicts a large-scale anomaly in BB power spectrum, i.e. due to the large suppression of tensor perturbation amplitude we will hardly see the reionization bump at low-$l$, which may be falsified by the Planck polarization data.

Unconventional Magnetization of Fe3O4 Thin Film Grown on Amorphous SiO2 Substrate

High quality single crystal Fe3O4 thin films with (111) orientation had been prepared on amorphous SiO2 substrate by pulsed laser deposition. The magnetization properties of the films are found to be highly unconventional. The Verwey transition temperature derived from the magnetization jump is around 140K, which is higher than the bulk value and it can be slightly suppressed by out-plane magnetic field; the out-of-plane magnetization, which is unexpectedly higher than the in-plane value, is also significantly increased as compared with the bulk value. Our findings suggest that the local Coulomb correlation U and the effective ferromagnetic exchange interaction J of Fe 3d electrons are both dramatically strengthened and out-of-plane directionally entangled by the unusual coupling between Fe3O4 thin film and the amorphous SiO2 substrate.

CMB anomalies from an inflationary model in string theory

Recent Planck measurements show some CMB anomalies on large angular scales, which confirms the early observations by WMAP. We show that an inflationary model, in which before the slow-roll inflation the Universe is in a superinflationary phase, can generate a large-scale cutoff in the primordial power spectrum, which may account for not only the power suppression on large angular scales, but also a large dipole power asymmetry in the CMB. We discuss an implementation of our model in string theory.

Galilean Islands in Eternally Inflating Background

We show that the observational universe may emerge classically from a de Sitter background with low energy scale. We find, after calculating the curvature perturbation, that the resulting scenario is actually a style of the eternal inflation scenario, in which some regions will go through the slowly expanding Galilean genesis phase with the rapidly increasing energy density and become island universes, while other regions are still eternally inflating, which will make the room for more island universes to emerge.

Obtaining the CMB anomalies with a bounce from the contracting phase to inflation

Recent Planck data show the anomalies of CMB fluctuations on large angular scales, which confirms the early observations by WMAP. We continue studying an inflationary model, in which before the slow roll inflation the universe is in a contracting phase, and fit the model with the Planck data. It is showed that this model may generate not only the power deficit at low-l, but also a large hemispherical power asymmetry in CMB. We also discuss the implication of the result to the eternal inflation scenario.

Phantom Inflation in Little Rip

We study the phantom inflation in little rip cosmology, in which the current acceleration is driven by the field with the parameter of state w < -1, but since w tends to -1 asymptotically, the rip singularity occurs only at infinite time. In this scenario, before the rip singularity is arrived, the universe is in an inflationary regime. We numerically calculate the spectrum of primordial perturbation generated during this period and find that the results may be consistent with observations. This implies that if the reheating happens again, the current acceleration might be just a start of phantom inflation responsible for the upcoming observational universe.

Scalar Perturbations Through Cycles

We analytically and numerically investigate the evolutions of the scalar perturbations through the cycles with nonsingular bounce. It is found that the amplitude of the curvature perturbation on large scale will be amplified cycle by cycle, and the isocurvature perturbations also obtain an amplification, but the rate of its amplification is slower than that of curvature perturbation, unless its coupling to the metric perturbation is not negligible.

A Galileon Design of Slow Expansion

We show a model of the slow expansion, in which the scale invariant spectrum of curvature perturbation is adiabatically induced by its increasing mode, by applying a generalized Galileon field. In this model, initially ε<< -1, which then is rapidly increasing, during this period the universe is slowly expanding. There is not the ghost instability, the perturbation theory is healthy. When ε\sim -1, the slow expansion phase ends, and the available energy of field can be released and the universe reheats. This scenario might be a viable design of the early universe.

Phantom Inflation with A Steplike Potential

The phantom inflation predicts a slightly blue spectrum of tensor perturbation, which might be tested in coming observations. In normal inflation models, the introduction of step in its potential generally results in an oscillation in the primordial power spectrum of curvature perturbation. We will check whether there is a similar case in the phantom inflation with steplike potential. We find that for same potentials, the oscillation of the spectrum of phantom inflation is nearly same with that of normal inflation, the difference between them is the tilt of power spectrum.

Amplification of Curvature Perturbations in Cyclic Cosmology

We analytically and numerically show that through the cycles with nonsingular bounce the amplitude of curvature perturbation on large scale will be amplified and the power spectrum will be redden. In some sense, this amplification will eventually destroy the homogeneity of background, which will lead to the ultimate end of cycles of global universe. We argue that for the model with increasing cycles, it might be possible that a fissiparous multiverse will emerge after one or several cycles, in which the cycles will continue only at corresponding local regions.
