Boundedness in a two-dimensional doubly degenerate nutrient taxis system with logistic source

We are concerned with the following doubly degenerate nutrient taxis system \begin{align} \begin{cases}\tag{$\star$}\label{eq-0.1} u_t=\nabla\cdot(u v\nabla u)-\nabla\cdot(u^{2} v\nabla v)+u-u^2,\\[1mm] v_t=Δv-u v, \end{cases} \end{align} posed in a bounded smooth domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^2$ under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. This model was introduced to describe the aggregation patterns of colonies of \emph{Bacillus subtilis} observed on thin agar plates. Previous results have established global boundedness in one space dimension and, in two dimensions, under additional assumptions such as small initial data or convex domains (see, e.g., M. Winkler, \textit{Trans. Amer. Math. Soc.}, 2021; M. Winkler, \textit{J. Differ. Equ.}, 2024). In the presence of the quadratic degradation term in the logistic growth, which markedly enhances the dissipative structure of the system, and by employing a weighted energy method, we prove that for arbitrary smooth initial data the problem \eqref{eq-0.1} admits a global weak solution that remains uniformly bounded in time.

Critical blow-up lines in a two-species quasilinear chemotaxis system with two chemicals

In this study, we explore the quasilinear two-species chemotaxis system with two chemicals \begin{align}\tag{$\star$} \begin{cases} u_t = \nabla \cdot(D(u)\nabla u) - \nabla \cdot \left(S(u) \nabla v\right), & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, \\ 0 = Δv - μ_w + w, \quad μ_w=\fint_Ωw, & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, \\ w_t = Δw - \nabla \cdot \left(w \nabla z\right), & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, \\ 0 = Δz - μ_u + u, \quad μ_u=\fint_Ωu, & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, \\ \frac{\partial u}{\partial ν} = \frac{\partial v}{\partial ν} = \frac{\partial w}{\partial ν} = \frac{\partial z}{\partial ν} = 0, & x \in \partial Ω, \ t > 0, \\ u(x, 0) = u_0(x), \quad w(x, 0) = w_0(x), & x \in Ω, \end{cases} \end{align} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ ($n \geq3$) is a smooth bounded domain. The functions $D(s)$ and $S(s)$ exhibit asymptotic behavior of the form \begin{align*} D(s) \simeq k_D s^p \ \text {and} \ S(s) \simeq k_S s^q, \quad s \gg 1 \end{align*} with $p,q \in \mathbb{R}$. We prove that \begin{itemize} \item when $Ω$ is a ball, if $q-p>2-\frac{n}{2}$ and $q>1-\frac{n}{2}$, there exist radially symmetric initial data $u_0$ and $w_0$, such that the corresponding solutions blow up in finite time; \item for any general smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, if $q-p<2-\frac{n}{2}$, all solutions are globally bounded; \item for any general smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$, if $q<1-\frac{n}{2}$, all solutions are global. \end{itemize} We point out that our results implies that the system ($\star$) possess two critical lines $ q-p=2-\frac{n}{2}$ and $q=1-\frac{n}{2}$ to classify three dynamics among global boundedness, finite-time blow-up, and global existence of solutions to system ($\star$).

Finite-time blow-up in a quasilinear two-species chemotaxis system with two chemicals

This paper investigates the finite-time blow-up phenomena to a quasilinear two-species chemotaxis system with two chemicals \begin{align}\tag{$\star$} \begin{cases} u_t = \nabla \cdot \left(D_1(u) \nabla u\right) - \nabla \cdot \left(u \nabla v\right), & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, 0 = Δv - μ_2 + w, \quad μ_2=\fint_Ωw, & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, w_t = \nabla \cdot \left(D_2(w) \nabla w\right) - \nabla \cdot \left(w \nabla z\right), & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, 0 = Δz - μ_1 + u, \quad μ_1=\fint_Ωu, & x \in Ω, \ t > 0, \frac{\partial u}{\partial ν} = \frac{\partial v}{\partial ν} = \frac{\partial w}{\partial ν} = \frac{\partial z}{\partial ν} = 0, & x \in \partial Ω, \ t > 0, u(x, 0) = u_0(x), \quad w(x, 0) = w_0(x), & x \in Ω, \end{cases} \end{align} where $Ω\subset \mathbb{R}^n$ $(n \geqslant 3)$ is a smoothly bounded domain. The nonlinear diffusion functions \( D_1(s) \) and \( D_2(s) \) are of the following forms: \begin{align*} D_1(s)\simeq s^{m_1-1} \quad \text{and}\quad D_2(s) \simeq s^{m_2-1}, \quad m_1,m_2> 1 \end{align*} for $s\geqslant 1$. For the classical two-species chemotaxis system with two chemicals (i.e. the second and fourth equations are replaced by $0 = Δv - v + w$ and $0 = Δz - z + u$ ), Zhong [J. Math. Anal. Appl., 500 (2021), Paper No. 125130, pp. 22.] showed that the system possesses a globally bounded classical solution in the case that \[ m_1 + m_2 < \max\left\{m_1m_2 + \frac{2m_1}{ n},\ m_1m_2 + \frac{2m_2 }{ n}\right\}. \] Complementing the boundedness result, we prove that the system ($\star$) admits solutions that blow up in finite time, if \[ m_1 + m_2 > \max\left\{ m_1m_2 + \frac{2m_1}{ n},\ m_1m_2 + \frac{2m_2}{ n}\right\} \] with $n\geqslant 3$.

Finite-time blowup in a parabolic-parabolic-elliptic chemotaxis model involving indirect signal production

This paper is concerned with a three-component chemotaxis model accounting for indirect signal production, reading as $u_t = \nabla\cdot(\nabla u - u\nabla v)$,$v_t = Δv - v + w$ and $0 = Δw - w + u$,posed in a ball of $\mathbb R^n$ with $n\geq5$,subject to homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions. The system is a Nagai-type variant of its fully parabolic version that has a four-dimensional critical mass phenomenon concerning blowup in finite or infinite time according to the seminal works of Fujie and Senba [J. Differential Equations, 263 (2017), 88--148; 266 (2019), 942--976].We prove that for any prescribed mass $m > 0$, there exist radially symmetric and positive initial data $(u_0,v_0)\in C^0(\overlineΩ)\times C^2(\overlineΩ)$ with $\int_Ωu_0 = m$ such that the corresponding solutions blow up in finite time.

Open World Knowledge Aided Single-Cell Foundation Model with Robust Cross-Modal Cell-Language Pre-training

Recent advancements in single-cell multi-omics, particularly RNA-seq, have provided profound insights into cellular heterogeneity and gene regulation. While pre-trained language model (PLM) paradigm based single-cell foundation models have shown promise, they remain constrained by insufficient integration of in-depth individual profiles and neglecting the influence of noise within multi-modal data. To address both issues, we propose an Open-world Language Knowledge-Aided Robust Single-Cell Foundation Model (OKR-CELL). It is built based on a cross-modal Cell-Language pre-training framework, which comprises two key innovations: (1) leveraging Large Language Models (LLMs) based workflow with retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) enriches cell textual descriptions using open-world knowledge; (2) devising a Cross-modal Robust Alignment (CRA) objective that incorporates sample reliability assessment, curriculum learning, and coupled momentum contrastive learning to strengthen the model's resistance to noisy data. After pretraining on 32M cell-text pairs, OKR-CELL obtains cutting-edge results across 6 evaluation tasks. Beyond standard benchmarks such as cell clustering, cell-type annotation, batch-effect correction, and few-shot annotation, the model also demonstrates superior performance in broader multi-modal applications, including zero-shot cell-type annotation and bidirectional cell-text retrieval.

Global solvability and unboundedness in a fully parabolic quasilinear chemotaxis model with indirect signal production

This paper is concerned with a quasilinear chemotaxis model with indirect signal production, $u_t = \nabla\cdot(D(u)\nabla u - S(u)\nabla v)$, $v_t = Δv - v + w$ and $w_t = Δw - w + u$, posed on a bounded smooth domain $Ω\subset\mathbb R^n$, subjected to homogenerous Neumann boundary conditions, where nonlinear diffusion $D$ and sensitivity $S$ generalize the prototype $D(s) = (s+1)^{-α}$ and $S(s) = (s+1)^{β-1}s$. Ding and Wang [M.Ding and W.Wang, Discrete Contin. Dyn. Syst. Ser. B, 24 (2019), 4665-4684.] showed that the system possesses a globally bounded classical solution if $α+ β<\min\{1+2/n,4/n\}$. While for the Jäger-Luckhaus variant of this model, namely the second equation replaced by $0=Δv - \int_Ωw/|Ω| + w$, Tao and Winkler [2023, preprint] announced that if $α+ β> 4/n$ and $β>2/n$ for $n\geq3$, with radial assumptions, the variant admits occurrence of finite-time blowup. We focus on the case $β<2/n$, and prove that $β< 2/n$ for $n\geq2$ is sufficient for global solvability of classical solutions; if $α+ β> 4/n$ for $n\geq4$, then radially symmetric initial data with large negative energy enforce blowup happening in finite or infinite time, both of which imply that the system allows infinite-time blowup if $α+ β> 4/n$ and $β< 2/n$ for $n\geq 4$.

Minimizers of nonlocal interaction functional with exogenous potential

The purpose of this paper is to consider the minimization problem of the following nonlocal interaction functional \begin{equation*} E[ρ]=\frac{1}{2}\int_{\mathbb{R}^N} \int_{\mathbb{R}^N}K(x-y)ρ(x)ρ(y)dxdy+\int_{\mathbb{R}^N}F(x)ρ(x)dx. \end{equation*} The kernel $K(x)=\frac{1}{q}|x|^q-\frac{1}{p}|x|^p$ is an endogenous potential, where $q>p>-N$. The exogenous potential $F$ is a nonnegative continuous function and satisfies $F(x)\to +\infty$ as $|x|\to +\infty$. The existence of minimizers are established based on the concentration compactness principle. Especially, for $F(x)=β|x|^2(β>0)$ and $K(x)=\frac{1}{2}|x|^2-\frac{1}{2-N}|x|^{2-N}$($N>2$), the global minimizer is given explicitly by the method of calculus of variation.

Blowup behavior of harmonic maps with finite index

In this paper, we study the blow-up phenomena on the $α_k$-harmonic map sequences with bounded uniformly $α_k$-energy, denoted by $\{u_{α_k}: α_k>1 \quad \mbox{and} \quad α_k\searrow 1\}$, from a compact Riemann surface into a compact Riemannian manifold. If the Ricci curvature of the target manifold is of a positive lower bound and the indices of the $α_k$-harmonic map sequence with respect to the corresponding $α_k$-energy are bounded, then, we can conclude that, if the blow-up phenomena occurs in the convergence of $\{u_{α_k}\}$ as $α_k\searrow 1$, the limiting necks of the convergence of the sequence consist of finite length geodesics, hence the energy identity holds true. For a harmonic map sequence $u_k:(Σ,h_k)\rightarrow N$, where the conformal class defined by $h_k$ diverges, we also prove some similar results.

Boundedness in a quasilinear fully parabolic Keller-Segel system with logistic source

This paper deals with the Neumann boundary value problem for the system $$u_t=\nabla\cdot\left(D(u)\nabla u\right)-\nabla\cdot\left(S(u)\nabla v\right)+f(u) ,\quad x\inΩ,\ t>0$$ $$v_t=Δv-v+u,\quad x\inΩ,\ t>0$$ in a smooth bounded domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^n$ $(n\geq1)$, where the functions $D(u)$ and $S(u)$ are supposed to be smooth satisfying $D(u)\geq Mu^{-α}$ and $S(u)\leq Mu^β$ with $M>0$, $α\in\mathbb{R}$ and $β\in\mathbb{R}$ for all $u\geq1$, and the logistic source $f(u)$ is smooth fulfilling $f(0)\geq0$ as well as $f(u)\leq a-μu^γ$ with $a\geq0$, $μ>0$ and $γ\geq1$ for all $u\geq0$. It is shown that if $α+2β<γ-1+\frac{2}{n}$, for $1\leqγ<2$ and $α+2β<γ-1+\frac{4}{n+2}$, for $γ\geq2$, then for sufficiently smooth initial data the problem possesses a unique global classical solution which is uniformly bounded.

Extendability of conformal structures on punctured surfaces

For a smooth immersion $f$ from the punctured disk $D\backslash\{0\}$ into $\mathbb{R}^n$ extendable continuously at the puncture, if its mean curvature is square integrable and the measure of $f(D)\cap B_{r_k}=o(r_k)$ for a sequence $r_k\to 0$, we show that the Riemannian surface $(D_r\backslash\{0\},g)$ where $g$ is the induced metric is conformally equivalent to the unit Euclidean punctured disk, for any $r\in(0,1)$. For a locally $W^{2,2}$ Lipschitz immersion $f$ from the punctured disk $D_2\backslash\{0\}$ into $\mathbb{R}^n$, if $\|\nabla f\|_{L^\infty}$ is finite and the second fundamental form of $f$ is in $L^2$, we show that there exists a homeomorphism $ϕ:D\to D$ such that $f\circϕ$ is a branched $W^{2,2}$-conformal immersion from the Euclidean unit disk $D$ into $\mathbb{R}^n$.

Global weak solutions for the three-dimensional chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes system with nonlinear diffusion

We consider an initial-boundary value problem for the incompressible chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes equations generalizing the porous-medium-type diffusion model $ \quad n_t+u\cdot\nabla n=Δn^m-\nabla\cdot(nχ(c)\nabla c), $ $ \quad c_t+u\cdot\nabla c=Δc-nf(c), $ $ \quad u_t+κ(u\cdot\nabla)u=Δu+\nabla P+n\nablaΦ, $ $ \quad \nabla\cdot u=0, $ in a bounded convex domain $Ω\subset\mathbb{R}^3$. It is proved that if $m\geq\frac{2}{3}$, $κ\in\mathbb{R}$, $0<χ\in C^2([0,\infty))$, $0\leq f\in C^1([0,\infty))$ with $f(0)=0$ and $Φ\in W^{1,\infty}(Ω)$, then for sufficiently smooth initial data $(n_0, c_0, u_0)$ the model possesses at least one global weak solution.

Local Kondo entanglement and its breakdown in an effective two-impurity Kondo model

Competition between the Kondo effect and Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida interaction in the two-impurity Kondo problem can be phenomenologically described by the Rasul-Schlottmann spin model. We revisit this model from the quantum entanglement perspective by calculating both the inter-impurity entanglement and the local Kondo entanglement, the latter being the entanglement between a local magnetic impurity and its spatially nearby conduction electron. A groundstate phase diagram is derived and a discontinuous breakdown of the local Kondo entanglement is found at the singular point, associated concomitantly with a jump in the inter-impurity entanglement. An entanglement monogamy holds in the whole phase diagram. Our results identify the important role of the frustrated cross-coupling and demonstrate the local characteristic of the quantum phase transition in the two-impurity Kondo problem. The implications of these results for Kondo lattices and quantum information processing are also briefly discussed.

Some remarks on Willmore surfaces embedded in $\mathbb{R}^3$

Let $f:\mathbb{C}\rightarrow \mathbb{R}^3$ be complete Willmore immersion with $\int_Σ|A_f|^2<+\infty$. We will show that if $f$ is the limit of an embedded surface sequence, then $f$ is a plane. As an application, we prove that if $Σ_k$ is a sequence of closed Willmore surface embedded in $\mathbb{R}^3$ with $W(Σ_k)<C$, and if the conformal class of $Σ_k$ converges in the moduli space, then we can find a Möbius transformation $σ_k$, such that a subsequence of $σ_k(Σ_k)$ converges smoothly.

Radially Symmetric Solutions To The Graphic Willmore Surface Equation

We show that a smooth radially symmetric solution $u$ to the graphic Willmore surface equation is either a constant or the defining function of a half sphere in ${\mathbb R}^3$. In particular, radially symmetric entire Willmore graphs in ${\mathbb R}^3$ must be flat. When $u$ is a smooth radial solution over a punctured disk $D(ρ)\backslash\{0\}$ and is in $C^1(D(ρ))$, we show that there exist a constant $λ$ and a function $β$ in $C^0(D(ρ))$ such that $u''(r) =\fracλ{2}\log r+β(r)$; moreover, the graph of $u$ is contained in a graphical region of an inverted catenoid which is uniquely determined by $λ$ and $β(0)$. It is also shown that a radial solution on the punctured disk extends to a $C^1$ function on the disk when the mean curvature is square integrable.

Homotopy classes of harmonic maps of the stratified 2-spheres and applications to geometric flows

We show that the set of harmonic maps from the 2-dimensional stratified spheres with uniformly bounded energies contains only finitely many homotopy classes. We apply this result to construct infinitely many harmonic map flows and mean curvature flows of 2-sphere in the connected sum of two closed 3-dimensional manifolds $M_1\not=S^3$ and $M_2\not=S^3,\R¶^3$, which must develop finite time singularity.

Bubble tree of a class of conformal mappings and applications to Willmore functional

We develop a bubble tree construction and prove compactness results for $W^{2,2}$ branched conformal immersions of closed Riemann surfaces, with varying conformal structures whose limit may degenerate, in a compact Riemannian manifold with uniformly bounded areas and Willmore energies. The compactness property is applied to construct Willmore type surfaces in compact Riemannian manifolds. This includes (a) existence of a Willmore 2-sphere in ${\mathbb S}^n$ with at least 2 nonremovable singular points (b) existence of minimizers of the Willmore functional with prescribed area in a compact manifold $N$ provided (i) the area is small when genus is 0 and (ii) the area is close to that of the area minimizing surface of Schoen-Yau and Sacks-Uhlenbeck in the homotopy class of an incompressible map from a surface of positive genus to $N$ and $π_2(N)$ is trivial (c) existence of smooth minimizers of the Willmore functional if a Douglas type condition is satisfied.

Two-dimensional curvature functionals with superquadratic growth

For two-dimensional, immersed closed surfaces $f:Σ\to \R^n$, we study the curvature functionals $\mathcal{E}^p(f)$ and $\mathcal{W}^p(f)$ with integrands $(1+|A|^2)^{p/2}$ and $(1+|H|^2)^{p/2}$, respectively. Here $A$ is the second fundamental form, $H$ is the mean curvature and we assume $p > 2$. Our main result asserts that $W^{2,p}$ critical points are smooth in both cases. We also prove a compactness theorem for $\mathcal{W}^p$-bounded sequences. In the case of $\mathcal{E}^p$ this is just Langer's theorem \cite{langer85}, while for $\mathcal{W}^p$ we have to impose a bound for the Willmore energy strictly below $8π$ as an additional condition. Finally, we establish versions of the Palais-Smale condition for both functionals.

$W^{2,2}$-conformal immersions of a closed Riemann surface into $\R^n$

We study sequences $f_k:Σ_k \to \R^n$ of conformally immersed, compact Riemann surfaces with fixed genus and Willmore energy ${\cal W}(f) \leq Λ$. Assume that $Σ_k$ converges to $Σ$ in moduli space, i.e. $ϕ_k^\ast(Σ_k) \to Σ$ as complex structures for diffeomorphisms $ϕ_k$. Then we construct a branched conformal immersion $f:Σ\to \R^n$ and Möbius transformations $σ_k$, such that for a subsequence $σ_k \circ f_k \circ ϕ_k \to f$ weakly in $W^{2,2}_{loc}$ away from finitely many points. For $Λ< 8π$ the map $f$ is unbranched. If the $Σ_k$ diverge in moduli space, then we show $\liminf_{k \to \infty} {\cal W}(f_k) \geq \min(8π,ω^n_p)$. Our work generalizes results in \cite{K-S3} to arbitrary codimension.
