Neutrino mass square ratio and neutrinoless double beta decay in random neutrino mass matrices

We study the neutrino mass anarchy in the Dirac neutrino, seesaw, double seesaw models. Assuming the anarchy hypothesis, the mass matrices are random and distributed in accordance with the Gaussian measure. We focus on the distributions of mass square ratio of the light neutrinos and examine which of these models shows a peak in the probability distribution around the experimental value. We show that the peak position depends on the number of random matrix products. We find that the light neutrino mass hierarchy becomes larger as the number of random matrix products is increased and the seesaw model with the random Dirac and Majorana mass matrices is the most probable to realize the current experimental data. We also investigate the distributions of the effective Majorana mass for neutrinoless double beta decay. We find that the effective Majorana mass is smaller than the experimental upper bound and tends to be smaller as the number of random matrix products increases because the light neutrino masses become more hierarchical. We argue that the tendency for lighter neutrino masses to become more hierarchical as the number of products in the random matrix increases can be understood from the probability distribution of singular values in random matrix theory.

Site-dependent Local Spin Susceptibility and Low-energy Excitation in a Weyl Semimetal WTe$_2$

Site-dependent local spin susceptibility is investigated with $^{125}$Te nuclear magnetic resonance in a Weyl semimetal WTe$_2$. The nuclear spin-lattice relaxation rate $1/T_1T$ shows a dependence of the square of temperature $T$ at high temperatures, followed by a constant behavior below 50 K. The temperature dependence features Weyl fermions appearing around the linearly crossing bands. The Knight shift $K$ scales to the square root of $1/T_1T$, corroborating a predominant spin contribution in low-lying excitation. The observed dependence of $K$ and $1/T_1T$ on the four Te sites shows the site-dependent electron correlation and density of states. The angular profile of the NMR spectrum gives the anisotropic hyperfine coupling tensor, consistent with $5p$ hole occupations on Te sites.

Determination of local defect density in diamond by double electron-electron resonance

Magnetic impurities in diamond influence the relaxation properties and thus limit the sensitivity of magnetic, electric, strain, and temperature sensors based on nitrogen-vacancy color centers. Diamond samples may exhibit significant spatial variations in the impurity concentrations hindering the quantitative analysis of relaxation pathways. Here, we present a local measurement technique which can be used to determine the concentration of various species of defects by utilizing double electron-electron resonance. This method will help to improve the understanding of the physics underlying spin relaxation and guide the development of diamond samples, as well as offering protocols for optimized sensing.

Magnetism of Kitaev spin-liquid candidate material RuBr$_3$

The ruthenium halide $α$-RuCl$_{3}$ is a promising candidate for a Kitaev spin liquid. However, the microscopic model describing $α$-RuCl$_{3}$ is still debated partly because of a lack of analogue materials for $α$-RuCl$_{3}$, which prevents tracking of electronic properties as functions of controlled interaction parameters. Here, we report a successful synthesis of RuBr$_{3}$. The material RuBr$_{3}$~possesses BiI$_3$-type structure (space group: $R\overline{3}$) where Ru$^{3+}$ form an ideal honeycomb lattice. Although RuBr$_{3}$ has a negative Weiss temperature, it undergoes a zigzag antiferromagnetic transition at $T_\mathrm{N}=34$ K, as does $α$-RuCl$_{3}$. Our analyses indicate that the Kitaev and non-Kitaev interactions can be modified in ruthenium trihalides by changing the ligand sites, which provides a new platform for exploring Kitaev spin liquids.

Muon and Electron $g-2$ and the Origin of Fermion Mass Hierarchy

We present a model that gives a natural explanation to the charged lepton mass hierarchy and study the contributions to the electron and the muon $g-2$. In the model, we introduce lepton-flavor-dependent $U(1)_F$ symmetry and three additional Higgs doublets with $U(1)_F$ charges, to realize that each generation of charged leptons couples to one of the three additional Higgs doublets. The $U(1)_F$ symmetry is softly broken by $+1$ charges, and the smallness of the soft breaking naturally gives rise to the hierarchy of the Higgs VEVs, which then accounts for the charged lepton mass hierarchy. Since electron and muon couple to different scalar particles, each scalar contributes to the electron and the muon $g-2$ differently. We survey the space of parameters of the Higgs sector and find that there are sets of parameters that explain the muon $g-2$ discrepancy. On the other hand, we cannot find the parameter sets that can explain $g-2$ discrepancy within 2$σ$. Here the $U(1)_F$ symmetry suppresses charged lepton flavor violation.

Occupation switching of $d$ orbitals probed via hyperfine interactions in vanadium dioxide

Metal-insulator transition was microscopically investigated by orbital-resolved nuclear magnetic resonance (OR-NMR) spectroscopy in a single crystal of vanadium dioxide VO$_2$. Observations of the anisotropic $^{51}$V Knight shift and the nuclear quadrupole frequency allow us to evaluate orbital-dependent spin susceptibility and $d$ orbital occupations. The result is consistent with the degenerated $t_{2g}$ orbitals in a correlated metallic phase and the $d$ orbital ordering in a nonmagnetic insulating phase. The predominant orbital pointing along the chain facilitates a spin-singlet formation triggering metal-insulator transition. The asymmetry of magnetic and electric hyperfine tensors suggests the $d$ orbital reformation favored by a low-symmetry crystal field, forming a localized molecular orbital. The result highlights the cooperative electron correlation and electron-phonon coupling in Mott transition with orbital degrees of freedom.

Natural Split Mechanism for Sfermions: $N$=2 Supersymmetry in Phenomenology

We suggest a natural split mechanism for sfermions based on $N$=2 supersymmetry (SUSY). $N$=2 SUSY protects a sfermion in an $N$=2 multiplet from gaining weight by SUSY breaking. Therefore, if partly $N$=2 SUSY is effectively obtained, a split spectrum can be realized naturally. As an example of the natural split mechanism, we build a gauge-mediated SUSY breaking-like model assuming $N$=2 SUSY is partly broken in a UV theory. The model explains the Higgs boson mass and the muon anomalous magnetic dipole moment within $1~σ$ level with a splitting sfermion spectrum. The model has seven light sparticles described by three free parameters and predicts a new chiral multiplet, sb: the $N$=2 partner of the ${\rm U(1)_Y}$ vector multiplet. The bini, the fermion component of the sb, weighs MeVs. We mention the experimental and the cosmological aspects of the model.

Pressure-Tuned Exchange Coupling of a Quantum Spin Liquid in the Molecular Triangular Lattice $κ$-(ET)$_2$Ag$_2$(CN)$_3$

The effects of pressure on a quantum spin liquid are investigated in an organic Mott insulator $κ$-(ET)$_2$Ag$_2$(CN)$_3$ with a spin-1/2 triangular lattice. The application of negative chemical pressure to $κ$-(ET)$_2$Cu$_2$(CN)$_3$, which is a well-known sister Mott insulator, allows for extensive tuning of antiferromagnetic exchange coupling, with $J/k_{\rm B} = 175 - 310$ K, under hydrostatic pressure. Based on $^{13}$C nuclear magnetic resonance measurements under pressure, we uncover universal scaling in the static and dynamic spin susceptibilities down to low temperatures $\sim 0.1k_{\rm B}T/J$. The persistent fluctuations and residual specific heat coefficient are consistent with the presence of gapless low-lying excitations. Our results thus demonstrate fundamental finite-temperature properties of quantum spin liquid in a wide parameter range.

Five New Exoplanets Orbiting Three Metal-Rich, Massive Stars: Two-Planet Systems Including Long-Period Planets, and an Eccentric Planet

We report detections of new exoplanets from a radial velocity (RV) survey of metal-rich FGK stars by using three telescopes. By optimizing our RV analysis method to long time-baseline observations, we have succeeded in detecting five new Jovian-planets around three metal-rich stars HD 1605, HD 1666, and HD 67087 with the masses of $1.3 M_{\odot}$, $1.5 M_{\odot}$, and $1.4 M_{\odot}$, respectively. A K1 subgiant star HD 1605 hosts two planetary companions with the minimum masses of $ M_p \sin i = 0.96 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ and $3.5 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in circular orbits with the planets' periods $P = 577.9$ days and $2111$ days, respectively. HD 1605 shows a significant linear trend in RVs. Such a system consisting of Jovian planets in circular orbits has rarely been found and thus HD 1605 should be an important example of a multi-planetary system that is likely unperturbed by planet-planet interactions. HD 1666 is a F7 main sequence star which hosts an eccentric and massive planet of $ M_p \sin i = 6.4 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in the orbit with $a_{\rm p} = 0.94$ AU and an eccentricity $e=0.63$. Such an eccentric and massive planet can be explained as a result of planet-planet interactions among Jovian planets. While we have found the large residuals of $\mathrm{rms} = 35.6\ \mathrm{m\ s^{-1}}$, the periodogram analysis does not support any additional periodicities. Finally, HD 67087 hosts two planets of $ M_p \sin i = 3.1 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ and $4.9 M_{\mathrm{JUP}}$ in orbits with $P=352.2$ days and $2374$ days, and $e=0.17$ and $0.76$, respectively. Although the current RVs do not lead to accurate determinations of its orbit and mass, HD 67087 c can be one of the most eccentric planets ever discovered in multiple systems.

Search for new physics via photon polarization of $b \rightarrow s γ$

We suggest a discriminant analysis of new physics beyond the standard model through a detection of photon polarization in a radiative B meson decay. This analysis is investigated in SUSY SU(5) GUT with right-handed neutrino and left-right symmetric models. New physics search via CP asymmetry in the same process are also evaluated in each model for comparison. We show that new physics can be found via detecting the photon polarization in a parameter space of TeV energy scale.

Site-Selective Mott Transition in a Quasi-One-Dimensional Vanadate V6O13

The microscopic mechanism of the metal-insulator transition is studied by orbital-resolved 51V NMR spectroscopy in a prototype of the quasi-one-dimensional system V6O13. We uncover that the transition involves a site-selective d orbital order lifting twofold orbital degeneracy in one of the two VO6 chains. The other chain leaves paramagnetic moments on the singly occupied dxy orbital across the transition. The two chains respectively stabilize an orbital-assisted spin-Peierls state and an antiferromagnetic long-range order in the ground state. The site-selective Mott transition may be a source of the anomalous metal and the Mott-Peierls duality.

Multi-band, Multi-epoch Observations of the Transiting Warm Jupiter WASP-80b

WASP-80b is a warm Jupiter transiting a bright late-K/early-M dwarf, providing a good opportunity to extend the atmospheric study of hot Jupiters toward the lower temperature regime. We report multi-band, multi-epoch transit observations of WASP-80b by using three ground-based telescopes covering from optical (g', Rc, and Ic bands) to near-infrared (NIR; J, H, and Ks bands) wavelengths. We observe 5 primary transits, each of which in 3 or 4 different bands simultaneously, obtaining 17 independent transit light curves. Combining them with results from previous works, we find that the observed transmission spectrum is largely consistent with both a solar abundance and thick cloud atmospheric models at 1.7$σ$ discrepancy level. On the other hand, we find a marginal spectral rise in optical region compared to the NIR region at 2.9$σ$ level, which possibly indicates the existence of haze in the atmosphere. We simulate theoretical transmission spectra for a solar abundance but hazy atmosphere, finding that a model with equilibrium temperature of 600 K can explain the observed data well, having a discrepancy level of 1.0$σ$. We also search for transit timing variations, but find no timing excess larger than 50 s from a linear ephemeris. In addition, we conduct 43 day long photometric monitoring of the host star in the optical bands, finding no significant variation in the stellar brightness. Combined with the fact that no spot-crossing event is observed in the five transits, our results confirm previous findings that the host star appears quiet for spot activities, despite the indications of strong chromospheric activities.

Spin disorder in an Ising honeycomb chain cobaltate

We report on a member of the spin-disordered honeycomb lattice antiferromagnet in a quasi-one-dimensional cobaltate Ba_3Co_2O_6(CO_3)_0.7. Resistivity exhibits as semimetallic along the face-sharing CoO6 chains. Magnetic susceptibility shows strongly anisotropic Ising-spin character with the easy axis along the chain due to significant spin-orbit coupling and a trigonal crystal field. Nevertheless, ^135Ba NMR detects no indication of the long-range magnetic order down to 0.48 K. Marginally itinerant electrons possess large entropy and low-lying excitations with a Wilson ratio R_W = 116, which highlight interplays of charge, spin, and orbital in the disordered ground state.

Lightcurve Survey of V-type Asteroids in the Inner Asteroid Belt

We have observed the lightcurves of 13 V-type asteroids ((1933) Tinchen, (2011) Veteraniya, (2508) Alupka, (3657) Ermolova, (3900) Knezevic, (4005) Dyagilev, (4383) Suruga, (4434) Nikulin, (4796) Lewis, (6331) 1992 $\mathrm{FZ_{1}}$, (8645) 1998 TN, (10285) Renemichelsen, and (10320) Reiland). Using these observations we determined the rotational rates of the asteroids, with the exception of Nikulin and Renemichelsen. The distribution of rotational rates of 59 V-type asteroids in the inner main belt, including 29 members of the Vesta family that are regarded as ejecta from the asteroid (4) Vesta, is inconsistent with the best-fit Maxwellian distribution. This inconsistency may be due to the effect of thermal radiation Yarkovsky--O'Keefe--Radzievskii--Paddack (YORP) torques, and implies that the collision event that formed V-type asteroids is sub-billion to several billion years in age.

Optical-to-Near-Infrared Simultaneous Observations for the Hot Uranus GJ3470b: A Hint for Cloud-free Atmosphere

We present optical (g', R_c, and I_c) to near-infrared (J) simultaneous photometric observations for a primary transit of GJ3470b, a Uranus-mass transiting planet around a nearby M dwarf, by using the 50-cm MITSuME telescope and the 188-cm telescope, both at Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. From these data, we derive the planetary mass, radius, and density as 14.1 \pm 1.3 M_earth, 4.32^{+0.21}_{-0.10} R_earth, and 0.94 \pm 0.12 g cm^{-3}, respectively, thus confirming the low density that was reported by Demory et al. based on the Spitzer/IRAC 4.5-micron photometry (0.72^{+0.13}_{-0.12} g cm^{-3}). Although the planetary radius is about 10% smaller than that reported by Demory et al., this difference does not alter their conclusion that the planet possesses a hydrogen-rich envelope whose mass is approximately 10% of the planetary total mass. On the other hand, we find that the planet-to-star radius ratio (R_p/R_s) in the J band (0.07577^{+0.00072}_{-0.00075}) is smaller than that in the I_c (0.0802 \pm 0.0013) and 4.5-micron (0.07806^{+0.00052}_{-0.00054}) bands by 5.9% \pm 2.0% and 3.0% \pm 1.2%, respectively. A plausible explanation for the differences is that the planetary atmospheric opacity varies with wavelength due to absorption and/or scattering by atmospheric molecules. Although the significance of the observed R_p/R_s variations is low, if confirmed, this fact would suggest that GJ3470b does not have a thick cloud layer in the atmosphere. This property would offer a wealth of opportunity for future transmission-spectroscopic observations of this planet to search for certain molecular features, such as H2O, CH4, and CO, without being prevented by clouds.

Orbital reformation with vanadium trimerization in $d^2$ triangular lattice LiVO$_2$ revealed by $^{51}$V NMR

LiVO$_2$ is a model system of the valence bond solid (VBS) in $3d^2$ triangular lattice. The origin of the VBS formation has remained controversial. We investigate the microscopic mechanism by elucidating the $d$ orbital character via on-site $^{51}$V NMR measurements in a single crystal up to 550 K across a structural transition temperature $T_c$. The Knight shift, $K$, and nuclear quadrupole frequency, $δν$, show that the 3d orbital with local trigonal symmetry are reconstructed into a $d_{yz}d_{zx}$ orbital order below $T_c$. Together with the NMR spectra with three-fold rotational symmetry, we confirm a vanadium trimerization with $d$-$d$ $σ$ bonds. The Knight shift extracts the large Van-Vleck orbital susceptibility, $χ^{\rm VV} = 3.6 \times 10^{-4}$, in a paramagnetic state above $T_c$, which is comparable to the spin susceptibility. The results suggest that orbitally induced Peierls transition in the proximity of the frustrated itinerant state is the dominant driving force of the trimerization transition.

An orbital-selective spin liquid in a frustrated heavy fermion spinel LiV$_2$O$_4$

The pronounced enhancement of the effective mass is the primary phenomenon associated with strongly correlated electrons. In the presence of local moments, the large effective mass is thought to arise from Kondo coupling, the interaction between itinerant and localised electrons. However, in d electron systems, the origin is not clear because of the competing Hund's rule coupling. Here we experimentally address the microscopic origin for the heaviest d fermion in a vanadium spinel LiV2O4 having geometrical frustration. Utilising orbital-selective 51V NMR, we elucidate the orbital-dependent local moment that exhibits no long-range magnetic order despite persistent antiferromagnetic correlations. A frustrated spin liquid, Hund-coupled to itinerant electrons, has a crucial role in forming heavy fermions with large residual entropy. Our method is important for the microscopic observation of the orbital-selective localisation in a wide range of materials including iron pnictides, cobaltates, manganites, and ruthnates.

Phenomenology of SUSY SU(5) GUT with neutrinophilic Higgs

Among three typical energy scales, a neutrino mass scale ($m_ν\sim$ 0.1 eV), a GUT scale ($M_{GUT}\sim 10^{16}$ GeV), and a TeV-scale ($M_{NP}\sim$ 1 TeV), there is a fascinating relation of $M_{NP}\simeq \sqrt{m_ν\cdot M_{GUT}}$.The TeV-scale, $M_{NP}$, is a new physics scale beyond the standard model which is regarded as "supersymmetry" (SUSY) in this letter. We investigate phenomenology of SUSY SU(5) GUT with neutrinophilic Higgs, which realizes the above relation dynamically as well as the suitable magnitude of Dirac mass, $m_ν$, through a tiny vacuum expectation value of neutrinophilic Higgs. As a remarkable feature of this model, accurate gauge coupling unification can be achieved as keeping with a proton stability. We also evaluate flavor changing processes in quark/lepton sectors.

Reevaluation of Neutron Electric Dipole Moment with QCD Sum Rules

We study the neutron electric dipole moment in the presence of the CP-violating operators up to the dimension five in terms of the QCD sum rules. It is found that the OPE calculation is robust when exploiting a particular interpolating field for neutron, while there exist some uncertainties on the phenomenological side. By using input parameters obtained from the lattice calculation, we derive a conservative limit for the contributions of the CP violating operators. We also show the detail of the derivation of the sum rules.

Measurements of neutral vector resonance in Higgsless models at the LHC

In Higgsless models, new vector resonances appear to restore the unitarity of the W_L W_L scattering amplitude without the Higgs boson. In the ideal delocalized three site Higgsless model, one of large prodcution cross section of the neutral vector resonance (Z') at the Large Hadron Collider is the W-associated production, pp \to Z'W \to WWW. Although the dileptonic decay channnel, lνl'ν'jj, is experimentally clean to search for the Z' signals, it is difficult to reconstruct the Z' invariant mass due to the two neutrinos in the final state. We study collider signatures of Z' using the M_{T2}-Assisted On-Shell (MAOS) reconstruction of the missing neutrino momenta. We show the prospect of the Z' mass determination in the channel, lνl'ν'jj, at the Large Hadron Collider.

Photometric Observations of 107P/Wilson-Harrington

We present lightcurve observations and multiband photometry for 107P/Wilson-Harrington using five small- and medium-sized telescopes. The lightcurve has shown a periodicity of 0.2979 day (7.15 hour) and 0.0993 day (2.38 hour), which has a commensurability of 3:1. The physical properties of the lightcurve indicate two models: (1) 107P/Wilson-Harrington is a tumbling object with a sidereal rotation period of 0.2979 day and a precession period of 0.0993 day. The shape has a long axis mode (LAM) of L1:L2:L3 = 1.0:1.0:1.6. The direction of the total rotational angular momentum is around λ = 310°, β = -10°, or λ = 132°, β = -17°. The nutation angle is approximately constant at 65°. (2) 107P/Wilson-Harrington is not a tumbler. The sidereal rotation period is 0.2979 day. The shape is nearly spherical but slightly hexagonal with a short axis mode (SAM) of L1:L2:L3 = 1.5:1.5:1.0. The pole orientation is around λ = 330°, β = -27°. In addition, the model includes the possibility of binary hosting. For both models, the sense of rotation is retrograde. Furthermore, multiband photometry indicates that the taxonomy class of 107P/Wilson-Harrington is C-type. No clear rotational color variations are confirmed on the surface.

Natural Supersymmetry at the LHC

If the minimal supersymmetric standard model is the solution to the hierarchy problem, the scalar top quark (stop) and the Higgsino should weigh around the electroweak scale such as 200 GeV. A low messenger scale, which results in a light gravitino, is also suggested to suppress the quantum corrections to the Higgs mass parameters. Therefore the minimal model for natural supersymmetry is a system with stop/Higgsino/gravitino whereas other superparticles are heavy. We study the LHC signatures of the minimal system and discuss the discovery potential and methods for the mass measurements.

Reconstructing Dark Matter Density with e^+e^- Linear Collider in Focus-Point Supersymmetry

It has been known that, in the focus point scenario of supersymmetry, the thermal relic of the lightest superparticle (LSP) is known to be a good candidate of the cold dark matter. Assuming that the LSP in the focus-point scenario be the cold dark matter, we address a question how and how well the relic density of the LSP can be determined once the superparticles are found at future e^+e^- linear collider. We will see that the determinations of the mass of the LSP as well as those of the Higgsino-like chargino and neutralinos, which will be possible by a study of the decay kinematics of the chargino or by threshold scan, will give us important information to theoretically reconstruct the relic density. Even if the Higgsino-like superparticles and the LSP are the only superparticles which are kinematically accessible, relic density of the LSP may be calculated with the accuracy of factor \sim 2; by adopting a mild theoretical assumption or by determining the masses of the Wino-like superparticles, uncertaintiy can be reduced to \sim 10 % or smaller.

Dusty ERO Search behind Two Massive Clusters

We performed deep K'-band imaging observations of 2 massive clusters, MS 0451.6-0305 at z = 0.55 and MS 0440.5+0204 at z = 0.19, for searching counterparts of the faint sub-mm sources behind these clusters, which would provide one of the deepest extremely red object(ERO) samples. Comparing our near-infrared images with optical images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope and by the Subaru Telescope, we identified 13 EROs in these fields. The sky distributions of EROs are consistent with the previous results, that there is a sign of strong clustering among detected EROs. Also, the surface density with corrected lensing amplification factors in both clusters are in good agreement with that derived from previous surveys. We found 7 EROs and 3 additional very red objects in a small area (\sim 0.6 arcmin^2) of the MS 0451.6-0305 field around an extended SCUBA source. Many of their optical and near-infrared colors are consistent with dusty star-forming galaxies at high redshifts(z \sim 1.0-4.0), and they may be constituting a cluster of dusty starburst galaxies and/or lensed star-forming galaxies at high redshift. Their red J-K' colors and faint optical magnitudes suggest they are relatively old massive stellar systems with ages(>300 Mega years) suffering from dust obscuration. We also found a surface-density enhancement of EROs around the SCUBA source in the MS 0440.5+0204 field.

Exploring flavor structure of supersymmetry breaking from rare B decays and unitarity triangle

We study effects of supersymmetric particles in various rare B decay processes as well as in the unitarity triangle analysis. We consider three different supersymmetric models, the minimal supergravity, SU(5) SUSY GUT with right-handed neutrinos, and the minimal supersymmetric standard model with U(2) flavor symmetry. In the SU(5) SUSY GUT with right-handed neutrinos, we consider two cases of the mass matrix of the right-handed neutrinos. We calculate direct and mixing-induced CP asymmetries in the b to s gamma decay and CP asymmetry in B_d to phi K_S as well as the B_s--anti-B_s mixing amplitude for the unitarity triangle analysis in these models. We show that large deviations are possible for the SU(5) SUSY GUT and the U(2) model. The pattern and correlations of deviations from the standard model will be useful to discriminate the different SUSY models in future B experiments.

Gauge-Higgs unification in the 5 dimensional E_6 and E_7 GUTs on orbifold

We consider 5 dimensional E_6 and E_7 supersymmetric grand unified theories (GUTs) on an orbifold S^1/Z_2, in which the Higgs fields arise from the 5th components of the 5D gauge fields. We introduce matter fields in 5 dimensions, then the Yukawa interactions are induced from the gauge interactions among the 5th component of gauge fields and the bulk hyper-multiplets. The adjoint and fundamental representations of bulk matter fields can induce all Yukawa interactions of the standard model in E_6 GUT. Furthermore, realistic fermion mass hierarchies and flavor mixings with the CP violating phase can be reproduced by introducing the 4D brane localized fields and their interactions. E_7 GUT can produce all Yukawa interactions by introducing only adjoint matter hyper-multiplet in the bulk. The charge quantization and anomaly free structure on the 4D wall are satisfactory in our models.

GUT relation in Neutrino-Induced Flavor Physics in SUSY SU(5) GUT

In the SUSY SU(5) GUT with the right-handed neutrinos, the neutrino Yukawa coupling induces the flavor-violating mass terms for the right-handed down squarks and left-handed sleptons, and they lead to imprint on the flavor physics in the hadronic and leptonic sectors. In this paper we study CP violation in $B_d^0$ and $B_s^0$, which is induced by the tau-neutrino Yukawa coupling. In particular, we notice the correlation of the CP asymmetries in $B_d^0\to ϕK_s$ ($S_{ϕK_s}$) and $B_s^0\to J/ψϕ$ ($S_{J/ψϕ}$) with other observables, such as $Br(τ\toμγ)$, the muon EDM ($d_μ$), and the mixing-induced CP asymmetry in $B_d^0\to M_s^0γ$ ($A_{bsg}$), since they have a common origin of the CP and flavor violation. The measurements are expected to play a significant role for consistency check of the SUSY SU(5) GUT. The hierarchical right-handed neutrino masses make the correlation better. We find that the current bound on $Br(τ\toμγ)$ constrains the allowed region for $S_{ϕK_s}$ in this model.

A simple model of generating fermion mass hierarchy in N=1 supersymmetric 6D SO(10) GUT

We suggest simple models which produce the suitable fermion mass hierarchies and flavor mixing angles based on the 6 dimensional N=1 supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified theory compactified on a $T^2/(Z_2 \times Z_2')$ orbifold. We introduce 6D and 5D matter fields, which contains the 1st and 2nd generation matter fields as the zero modes, respectively. The 3rd generation matter fields are located on a 4D brane. The Yukawa couplings for bulk fields are suppressed by volume factors from extra dimensions. The suitable fermion mass hierarchies and flavor mixings are generated by the volume suppression factors.

Decomposition of the Superwind in M82

We present new optical images ($B$, $V$, and H$α$) of the archetypical starburst/superwind galaxy M82 obtained with the 8.2 m Subaru Telescope to reveal new detailed structures of the superwind-driven nebula and the high-latitude dark lanes. The emission-line nebula is decomposed into (1) a ridge-dominated component comprising numerous filament/loop sub-structures whose overall morphology appears as a pair of narrow cylinders, and (2) a diffuse component extended over much wider opening angle from the nucleus. We suggest that these two components have different origins. The ridge-dominated component appears as a pair of cylinders rather than a pair of cones. Since this morphological property is similar to that of hot plasma probed by soft X-ray, this component seems to surround the hot plasma. On the other hand, the diffuse component may arise from dust grains which scatter stellar light from the galaxy. Since inner region of this component is seen over the prominent ^^ ^^ X"-shaped dark lanes streaming out from the nuclear region and they can be reproduced as a conical distribution of dust grains, there seems to be a dusty cold outflow as well as the hot one probed by soft X-ray and shock-excited optical emission lines. If this is the case, the presence of such high-latitude dust grains implies that neutral gaseous matter is also blown out during the course of the superwind activity.

Exploring Flavor Structure of Supersymmetry Breaking at B factories

We investigate quark flavor signals in three different supersymmetric models, the minimal supergravity, the SU(5) SUSY GUT with right handed neutrinos, and the minimal supersymmetric standard model with U(2) flavor symmetry, in order to study physics potential of the present and future $B$ factories. We evaluate CP asymmetries in various B decay modes, $Δm_{B_s}$, $Δm_{B_d}$, and $ε_K$. The allowed regions of the CP asymmetry in $B\to J/ψK_S$ and $Δm_{B_s}/Δm_{B_d}$ are different for the three models so that precise determinations of these observables in near future experiments are useful to distinguish the three models. We also investigate possible deviations from the standard model predictions of CP asymmetries in other B decay modes. In particular, a large deviation is possible for the U(2) model. The consistency check of the unitarity triangle including $B\to ππ,ρπ,D^{(*)}K^{(*)},D^{(*)}π,D^{*}ρ$, and so on, at future high luminosity $e^+e^-$ $B$ factories and hadronic $B$ experiments is therefore important to distinguish flavor structures of different supersymmetric models.

Flavor changing neutral current processes in $B$ and $K$ decays in the supergravity model

Flavor changing neutral current processes such as $b \to s γ$, $b \to s l^+ l^-$, $b \to s ν\barν$, $ε_K$, $Δm_B$, $K^+ \to π^+ ν\barν$ and $\K_L \to π^0 ν\barν$ are calculated in the supersymmetric standard model based on supergravity. We consider two assumptions for the soft supersymmetry breaking terms. In the minimal case soft breaking terms for all scalar fields are taken to be universal at the GUT scale whereas those terms are different for the squark/slepton sector and the Higgs sector in the nonminimal case. In the calculation we have taken into account the next-to-leading order QCD correction to the $b \to s γ$ branching ratio, the results from the LEP II superparticles search, and the condition of the radiative electroweak symmetry breaking. We show that $Δm_B$ and $ε_K$ can be enhanced up to 40% compared to the Standard Model values in the nonminimal case. In the same parameter region the $b \to s ν\barν$, $K^+ \to π^+ ν\barν$ and $\K_L \to π^0 ν\barν$ branching ratios are reduced up to 10%. The corresponding deviation in the minimal case is 20% for $Δm_B$ and $ε_K$ and within 3% for the $b \to s ν\barν$, $K^+ \to π^+ ν\barν$ and $\K_L \to π^0 ν\barν$. For the $b \to s l^+ l^-$ process the significant deviation from the Standard Model is realized only when the $b \to s γ$ amplitude has an opposite sign to the Standard Model prediction. Significance on these results from possible future improvements of the $b \to s γ$ branching ratio measurement and top squark search is discussed.

$b \to s l \bar l $ in the minimal supergravity model

The $b \rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ process is studied in the minimal supergravity model in detail. Taking account of the long distance contributions from the $c\overline{c}$ resonances, we calculate the branching ratio and the lepton forward-backward asymmetry in this model. We find that there is a strong correlation between the branching ratios of $b \rightarrow s γ$ and $b \rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ processes and that the interference effect can change the $b \rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ branching ratio in the off-resonance regions by up to $\pm 15%$ depending on the relative phase between the long and short distance contributions. Using various phenomenological constraints including the branching ratio of $b \rightarrow s γ$, we show that there are regions in the parameter space where the branching ratio of $b \rightarrow s l^+ l^-$ is enhanced by about 50% compared to the SM. We also show that the branching ratio of $b \rightarrow s ν{\overline ν}$ is reduced at most by 10% from the SM prediction.
