A general sufficient criterion for energy conservation in the Navier-Stokes system

In this paper, we derive an energy conservation criterion based on a combination of velocity and its gradient for the weak solutions of both the homogeneous incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and the general compressible Navier-Stokes equations. For the incompressible case, this class implies most known corresponding results on periodic domain via either the velocity or its gradient including the famous Lions' energy conservation criterion obtained in \cite{[Lions]}. For the compressible case, this helps us to extend the previously known criteria for the energy conservation of weak solutions from the incompressible fluid to compressible flow and improve the recent results due to Nguyen-Nguyen-Tang in \cite[Nonlinearity 32 (2019)]{[NNT]} and Liang in \cite[Proc. Roy. Soc. Edinburgh Sect. A (2020)]{[Liang]}.

Analytical validation of the helicity conservation for the compressible Euler equations

In [25], Moffatt introduced the concept of helicity in an inviscid fluid and examined the helicity preservation of smooth solution to barotropic compressible flow. In this paper, it is shown that the weak solutions of the above system in Onsager type spaces $\dot{B}^{1/3}_{p,c(\mathbb{N})}$ guarantee the conservation of the helicity. The parallel results of homogeneous incompressible Euler equations and the surface quasi-geostrophic equation are also obtained.

Anisotropic Hardy-Sobolev inequality in mixed Lorentz spaces with applications to the axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations

In this paper, we establish several new anisotropic Hardy-Sobolev inequalities in mixed Lebesgue spaces and mixed Lorentz spaces, which covers many known corresponding results. As an application, this type of inequalities allows us to generalize some regularity criteria of the 3D axisymmetric Navier-Stokes equations.

Energy and helicity conservation for the generalized quasi-geostrophic equation

In this paper, we consider the 2-D generalized surface quasi-geostrophic equation with the velocity $v$ determined by $v=\mathcal{R}^{\perp}Λ^{γ-1}θ$. It is shown that the $L^p$ type energy norm of weak solutions is conserved provided $θ\in L^{p+1}(0,T; {B}^{\fracγ{3}}_{p+1, c(\mathbb{N})})$ for $0<γ<\frac32$ or $θ\in L^{p+1}(0,T; {B}^α_{p+1,\infty})~\text{for any}~γ-1<α<1 \text{ with} ~\frac{3}{2}\leq γ<2$. Moreover, we also prove that the helicity of weak solutions satisfying $\nablaθ\in L^{3}(0,T;\dot{B}_{3,c(\mathbb{N})}^{\fracγ{3}})$ for $0<γ<\frac32$ or $\nablaθ\in L^{3}(0,T; \dot{B}^α_{3,\infty})~\text{for any}~γ-1<α<1 \text{ with} ~\frac{3}{2}\leq γ<2$ is invariant. Therefore, the accurate relationships between the critical regularity for the energy (helicity) conservation of the weak solutions and the regularity of velocity in 2-D generalized quasi-geostrophic equation are presented.

Energy conservation of weak solutions for the incompressible Euler equations via vorticity

Motivated by the works of Cheskidov, Lopes Filho, Nussenzveig Lopes and Shvydkoy in [8, Commun. Math. Phys. 348: 129-143, 2016] and Chen and Yu in [5, J. Math. Pures Appl. 131: 1-16, 2019], we address how the $L^p$ control of vorticity could influence the energy conservation for the incompressible homogeneous and nonhomogeneous Euler equations in this paper. For the homogeneous flow in the periodic domain or whole space, we provide a self-contained proof for the criterion $ω=\text{curl}u\in L^{3}(0,T;L^{\frac{3n}{n+2}}(Ω))\,(n=2,3)$, which generalizes the corresponding result in [8] and can be viewed as in Onsager critical spatio-temporal spaces. Regarding the nonhomogeneous flow, it is shown that the energy is conserved as long as the vorticity lies in the same space as before and $\nabla\sqrtρ$ belongs to $L^{\infty}(0,T;L^{n}(\mathbb{T}^{n}))\,(n=2,3)$, which gives an affirmative answer to a problem proposed by Chen and Yu in [5].

Fractal dimension of potential singular points set in the Navier-Stokes equations under supercritical regularity

The main objective of this paper is to answer the questions posed by Robinson and Sadowski [21, p. 505, Comm. Math. Phys., 2010]{[RS3]} for the Navier-Stokes equations. Firstly, we prove that the upper box dimension of the potential singular points set $\mathcal{S}$ of suitable weak solution $u$ belonging in $ L^{q}(0,T;L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{3}))$ for $1\leq\frac{2}{q}+\frac{ 3}{p}\leq\frac32$ with $2\leq q<\infty$ and $2<p<\infty$ is at most $\max\{p,q\}(\frac{2}{q}+\frac{ 3}{p}-1)$ in this system. Secondly, it is shown that $1-2 s$ dimension Hausdorff measure of potential singular points set of suitable weak solutions satisfying $ u\in L^{2}(0,T;\dot{H}^{s+1}(\mathbb{R}^{3}))$ for $0\leq s\leq\frac12$ is zero, whose proof relies on Caffarelli-Silvestre's extension. Inspired by Baker-Wang's recent work [1], this further allows us to discuss the Hausdorff dimension of potential singular points set of suitable weak solutions if the gradient of the velocity under some supercritical regularity.

Partial regularity of suitable weak solutions of the model arising in amorphous molecular beam epitaxy

In this paper, we are concerned with the precise relationship between the Hausdorff dimension of possible singular point set $\mathcal{S}$ of suitable weak solutions and the parameter $α$ in the nonlinear term in the following parabolic equation $$h_t+h_{xxxx}+\partial_{xx}|h_x|^α=f.$$ It is shown that when $5/3\leqα<7/3$, the $\frac{3α-5}{α-1}$-dimensional parabolic Hausdorff measure of $\mathcal{S}$ is zero, which generalizes the recent corresponding work of Ozánski and Robinson in [31,SIAM J. Math. Anal. 51: 228--255, 2019] for $α=2$ and $f=0$. The same result is valid for a 3D modified Navier-Stokes system.

Leray's backward self-similar solutions to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations in Morrey spaces

In this paper, it is shown that there does not exist a non-trivial Leray's backward self-similar solution to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations with profiles in Morrey spaces $\dot{\mathcal{M}}^{q,1}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ provided $3/2<q<6$, or in $\dot{\mathcal{M}}^{q,l}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ provided $6\leq q<\infty$ and $2<l\leq q$. This generalizes the corresponding results obtained by Nečas-Råužička-Šverák [19, Acta.Math. 176 (1996)] in $L^{3}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$, Tsai [25, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 143 (1998)] in $L^{p}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ with $p\geq3$,, Chae-Wolf [3, Arch. Ration. Mech. Anal. 225 (2017)] in Lorentz spaces $L^{p,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ with $p>3/2$, and Guevara-Phuc [11, SIAM J. Math. Anal. 12 (2018)] in $\dot{\mathcal{M}}^{q,\frac{12-2q}{3}}(\mathbb{R}^{3})$ with $12/5\leq q<3$ and in $L^{q, \infty}(\mathbb{R}^3)$ with $12/5\leq q<6$.

New regularity criteria based on pressure or gradient of velocity in Lorentz spaces for the 3D Navier-Stokes equations

In this paper, we derive regular criteria via pressure or gradient of the velocity in Lorentz spaces to the 3D Navier-Stokes equations. It is shown that a Leray-Hopf weak solution is regular on $(0,T]$ provided that either the norm $\|Π\|_{L^{p,\infty}(0,T; L ^{q,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{3}))} $ with $ {2}/{p}+{3}/{q}=2$ $({3}/{2}<q<\infty)$ or $\|\nablaΠ\|_{L^{p,\infty}(0,T; L ^{q,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^{3}))} $ with $ {2}/{p}+{3}/{q}=3$ $(1<q<\infty)$ is small. This gives an affirmative answer to a question proposed by Suzuki in [26, Remark 2.4, p.3850]. Moreover, regular conditions in terms of $\nabla u$ obtained here generalize known ones to allow the time direction to belong to Lorentz spaces.

Improved bounds for box dimensions of potential singular points to the Navier--Stokes equations

In this paper, we study the potential singular points of interior and boundary suitable weak solutions to the 3D Navier--Stokes equations. It is shown that upper box dimension of interior singular points and boundary singular points are bounded by $7/6$ and $10/9$, respectively. Both proofs rely on recent progress of $\varepsilon$-regularity criteria at one scale.

A Numerical Scheme for BSVIEs

In this paper, we consider the Euler method for backward stochastic Volterra integral equations. First, we approximate the original equation by a family of backward stochastic equations (BSDEs, for short). Then we solve the BSDEs by the Euler method. Finally, by virtue of the numerical solutions to BSDEs, we get the numerical solution to original equation and obtain the global $1/2$ order convergence speed in $L^2$ norm.

Exact Controllability of Linear Stochastic Differential Equations and Related Problems

A notion of $L^p$-exact controllability is introduced for linear controlled (forward) stochastic differential equations, for which several sufficient conditions are established. Further, it is proved that the $L^p$-exact controllability, the validity of an observability inequality for the adjoint equation, the solvability of an optimization problem, and the solvability of an $L^p$-type norm optimal control problem are all equivalent.

A Semidiscrete Galerkin Scheme for Backward Stochastic Parabolic Differential Equations

In this paper, we present a numerical scheme to solve the initial-boundary value problem for backward stochastic partial differential equations of parabolic type. Based on the Galerkin method, we approximate the original equation by a family of backward stochastic differential equations (BSDEs, for short), and then solve these BSDEs by the time discretization. Combining the truncation with respect to the spatial variable and the backward Euler method on time variable, we obtain the global $L^2$ error estimate.

Partial regularity of suitable weak solutions to the multi-dimensional generalized magnetohydrodynamics equations

In this paper, we are concerned with the partial regularity of the suitable weak solutions to the fractional MHD equations in $\mathbb{R}^{n}$ for $n=2,\,3$. In comparison with the work of the 3D fractional Navier-Stokes equations obtained by Tang and Yu in [24, Commun. Math. Phys. 334: 1455--1482, 2015], our results include their endpoint case $α=3/4$ and the external force belongs to more general parabolic Morrey space. Moreover, we prove some interior regularity criteria just via the scaled mixed norm of the velocity for the suitable weak solutions to the fractional MHD equations.

A Motivation Model of Peer Assessment in Programming Language Learning

Peer assessment is an efficient and effective learning assessment method that has been used widely in diverse fields in higher education. Despite its many benefits, a fundamental problem in peer assessment is that participants lack the motivation to assess others' work faithfully and fairly. Non-consensus is a common challenge that makes the reliability of peer assessment a primary concern in practices. This research proposes a motivation model that uses review deviation and radicalization to identify non-consensus in peer assessment. The proposed model is implemented as a software module in a peer code review system called EduPCR4. EduPCR4 is able to monitor this measure and trigger teacher's arbitration when it detects possible non-consensus. An empirical study conducted in a university-level C programming course showed that the proposed model and its implementation helped to improve the peer assessment practices in many aspects.

Anisotropic regularity conditions for the suitable weak solutions to the 3d Navier-Stokes equations

We are concerned with the problem, originated from Seregin [18,19,20], what are minimal sufficiently conditions for the regularity of suitable weak solutions to the 3d Naiver-Stokes equations. We prove some interior regularity criteria, in terms of either one component of the velocity with sufficiently small local scaled norm and the rest part with bounded local scaled norm, or horizontal part of the vorticity with sufficiently small local scaled norm and the vertical part with bounded local scaled norm. It is also shown that only the smallness on the local scaled $L^{2}$ norm of horizontal gradient without any other condition on the vertical gradient can still ensure the regularity of suitable weak solutions. All these conclusions improve pervious results on the local scaled norm type regularity conditions.

How are identifiers named in open source software? About popularity and consistency

With the rapid increasing of software project size and maintenance cost, adherence to coding standards especially by managing identifier naming, is attracting a pressing concern from both computer science educators and software managers. Software developers mainly use identifier names to represent the knowledge recorded in source code. However, the popularity and adoption consistency of identifier naming conventions have not been revealed yet in this field. Taking forty-eight popular open source projects written in three top-ranking programming languages Java, C and C++ as examples, an identifier extraction tool based on regular expression matching is developed. In the subsequent investigation, some interesting findings are obtained. For the identifier naming popularity, it is found that Camel and Pascal naming conventions are leading the road while Hungarian notation is vanishing. For the identifier naming consistency, we have found that the projects written in Java have a much better performance than those written in C and C++. Finally, academia and software industry are urged to adopt the most popular naming conventions consistently in their practices so as to lead the identifier naming to a standard, unified and high-quality road.

On measuring team stability in cooperative learning: An example of consecutive course projects on software engineering

Cooperative learning theory has shown that stable membership is a hallmark of effective work teams. According to relation strength and social network centrality, this paper proposes an approach to measure team stability reasons in consecutive cooperative learning. Taking consecutive course projects of software engineering in a university as examples, we examine the relation between team stability and learning performance in consecutive cooperative learning from two parts: learning score and learning satisfaction. Through empirical analysis, it arrives at the conclusion that learning score is in weak positive correlation with team stability. Through questionnaire and interviews, it finds out 78% of the students did not value the importance of team stability, and 67% of the teachers never recommend the students to keep stable teams. Finally, we put forward an expected correlation model of learning performance as future work and discuss instability as well.

On possible time singular points and eventual regularity of weak solutions to the fractional Navier-Stokes equations

In this paper, we intend to reveal how the fractional dissipation $(-Δ)^α$ affects the regularity of weak solutions to the 3d generalized Navier-Stokes equations. Precisely, it will be shown that the $(5-4α)/2α$ dimensional Hausdorff measure of possible time singular points of weak solutions on the interval $(0,\infty)$ is zero when $5/6\leα< 5/4$. To this end, the eventual regularity for the weak solutions is firstly established in the same range of $α$. It is worth noting that when the dissipation index $α$ varies from $5/6$ to $ 5/4$, the corresponding Hausdorff dimension is from $1$ to $0$. Hence, it seems that the Hausdorff dimension obtained is optimal. Our results rely on the fact that the space $H^α$ is the critical space or subcritical space to this system when $α\geq5/6$.

On the length of Golomb Ruler: A function construction approach based on difference triangle

Since the significance of Golomb Ruler Problem in some context, we proposes a function construction approach based on difference triangle to generate near-optimal Golomb rulers. Let x1, x2, ..., xn be an increasing sequence of integers, where x1 = 0, which satisfies the following conditions: if abs(xi-xj) = abs(xp-xq) then {i, j} = {p,q}. Our objective is to find the order of minimum xn for any given n. In this paper, the two results in a paper are both improved. In addition, it will be shown that the length of Golomb Ruler have been shortened to a half, and that the satisfying sequence can not be generated by such a quadratic formula as $xi = ai^2+bni+ci+dn^2+en+f$ for any rational a, b, c, d, e and f.

Solving reviewer assignment problem in software peer review: An approach based on preference matrix and asymmetric TSP model

Optimized reviewer assignment can effectively utilize limited intellectual resources and significantly assure review quality in various scenarios such as paper selection in conference or journal, proposal selection in funding agencies and so on. However, little research on reviewer assignment of software peer review has been found. In this study, an optimization approach is proposed based on students' preference matrix and the model of asymmetric traveling salesman problem (ATSP). Due to the most critical role of rule matrix in this approach, we conduct a questionnaire to obtain students' preference matrices and convert them to rule matrices. With the help of software ILOG CPLEX, the approach is accomplished by controlling the exit criterion of ATSP model. The comparative study shows that the assignment strategies with both reviewers' preference matrix and authors' preference matrix get better performance than the random assignment. Especially, it is found that the performance is just a little better than that of random assignment when the reviewers' and authors' preference matrices are merged. In other words, the majority of students have a strong wish of harmonious development even though high-level students are not willing to do that.
