Truncations of random unitary matrices drawn from Hua-Pickrell distribution

Let $U$ be a random unitary matrix drawn from the Hua-Pickrell distribution $μ_{\mathrm{U}(n+m)}^{(δ)}$ on the unitary group $\mathrm{U}(n+m)$. We show that the eigenvalues of the truncated unitary matrix $[U_{i,j}]_{1\leq i,j\leq n}$ form a determinantal point process $\mathscr{X}_n^{(m,δ)}$ on the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ for any $δ\in\mathbb{C}$ satisfying $\mathrm{Re}\,δ>-1/2$. We also prove that the limiting point process taken by $n\to\infty$ of the determinantal point process $\mathscr{X}_n^{(m,δ)}$ is always $\mathscr{X}^{[m]}$, independent of $δ$. Here $\mathscr{X}^{[m]}$ is the determinantal point process on $\mathbb{D}$ with weighted Bergman kernel \begin{equation*} \begin{split} K^{[m]}(z,w)=\frac{1}{(1-z\overline w)^{m+1}} \end{split} \end{equation*} with respect to the reference measure $dμ^{[m]}(z)=\frac{m}π(1-|z|)^{m-1}dσ(z)$, where $dσ(z)$ is the Lebesgue measure on $\mathbb{D}$.

Gaussian limit for determinantal point processes with $J$-Hermitian kernels

We show that the central limit theorem for linear statistics over determinantal point processes with $J$-Hermitian kernels holds under fairly general conditions. In particular, We establish Gaussian limit for linear statistics over determinantal point processes on union of two copies of $\mathbb{R}^d$ when the correlation kernels are $J$-Hermitian translation-invariant.

The Patterson-Sullivan Interpolation of Pluriharmonic Functions for Determinantal Point Processes on Complex Hyperbolic Spaces

The Patterson-Sullivan construction is proved almost surely to recover a Bergman function from its values on a random discrete subset sampled with the determinantal point process induced by the Bergman kernel on the unit ball $\mathbb{D}_d$ in $\mathbb{C}^d$. For super-critical weighted Bergman spaces, the interpolation is uniform when the functions range over the unit ball of the weighted Bergman space. As main results, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for interpolation of a fixed pluriharmonic function in the complex hyperbolic space of arbitrary dimension (cf. Theorem 1.4 and Theorem 4.11); optimal simultaneous uniform interpolation for weighted Bergman spaces (cf. Theorem 1.8, Proposition 1.9 and Theorem 4.13); strong simultaneous uniform interpolation for weighted harmonic Hardy spaces (cf. Theorem 1.11 and Theorem 4.15); and establish the impossibility of the uniform simultaneous interpolation for the Bergman space $A^2(\mathbb{D}_d)$ on $\mathbb{D}_d$ (cf. Theorem 1.12 and Theorem 6.7).

Hyper-positive definite functions II: A complete study of branching-Toeplitz operators

We introduce and give a more or less complete study of a family of branching-Toeplitz operators on the Hilbert space $\ell^2(T_q)$ indexed by a rooted homogeneous tree $T_q$ of degree $q\ge 2$. The finite dimensional analogues of such operators form a very natural family of structured sparse matrices called branching-Toeplitz matrices and will also be investigated. The branching-Toeplitz operators/matrices in this paper should be viewed as natural generalizations of the standard Toeplitz operators/matrices. We will apply our results to construct a family of determinantal point processes on homogeneous trees which are branching-type strong stationary stochastic processes.

Rigidity of determinantal point processes on the unit disc with sub-Bergman kernels

We give natural constructions of number rigid determinantal point processes on the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ with sub-Bergman kernels of the form \[ K_Λ(z, w) = \sum_{n\in Λ}(n+1) z^n \bar{w}^n, \quad z, w \in \mathbb{D}, \] with $Λ$ an infinite subset of the set of non-negative integers. Our constructions are given both in a deterministic method and a probabilisitc method. In the deterministic method, our proofs involve the classical Bloch functions.

The metric projections onto closed convex cones in a Hilbert space

We study the metric projection onto the closed convex cone in a real Hilbert space $\mathscr{H}$ generated by a sequence $\mathcal{V} = \{v_n\}_{n=0}^\infty$. The first main result of this paper provides a sufficient condition under which we can identify the closed convex cone generated by $\mathcal{V}$ with the following set: \[ \mathcal{C}[[\mathcal{V}]]: = \bigg\{\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n v_n\Big|a_n\geq 0,\text{ the series }\sum_{n=0}^\infty a_n v_n\text{ converges in $\mathscr{H}$}\bigg\}. \] Then, by adapting classical results on general convex cones, we give a useful description of the metric projection of a vector onto $\mathcal{C}[[\mathcal{V}]]$. As applications, we obtain the best approximations of many concrete functions in $L^2([-1,1])$ by polynomials with non-negative coefficients.

Determinantal point processes associated with Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions

We study determinantal point processes on $\mathbb{C}$ induced by the reproducing kernels of generalized Fock spaces as well as those on the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ induced by the reproducing kernels of generalized Bergman spaces. In the first case, we show that all reduced Palm measures $\textit{of the same order}$ are equivalent. The Radon-Nikodym derivatives are computed explicitly using regularized multiplicative functionals. We also show that these determinantal point processes are rigid in the sense of Ghosh and Peres, hence reduced Palm measures $\textit{of different orders}$ are singular. In the second case, we show that all reduced Palm measures, $\textit{of all orders}$, are equivalent. The Radon-Nikodym derivatives are computed using regularized multiplicative functionals associated with certain Blaschke products. The quasi-invariance of these determinantal point processes under the group of diffeomorphisms with compact supports follows as a corollary.

Ergodic measures on infinite skew-symmetric matrices over non-Archimedean local fields

Let $F$ be a non-discrete non-Archimedean locally compact field such that the characteristic $\mathrm{ch}(F)\ne 2$ and let $\mathcal{O}_F$ be the ring of integers in $F$. The main results of this paper are Theorem 1.2 that classifies ergodic probability measures on the space $\mathrm{Skew}(\mathbb{N}, F)$ of infinite skew-symmetric matrices with respect to the natural action of the group $\mathrm{GL}(\infty,\mathcal{O}_F)$ and Theorem 1.4, that gives an unexpected natural correspondence between the set of $\mathrm{GL}(\infty,\mathcal{O}_F)$-invariant Borel probability measures on $\mathrm{Sym}(\mathbb{N}, F)$ with the set of $\mathrm{GL}(\infty,\mathcal{O}_F) \times \mathrm{GL}(\infty,\mathcal{O}_F)$-invariant Borel probability measures on the space $\mathrm{Mat}(\mathbb{N}, F)$ of infinite matrices over $F$.

Linear rigidity of stationary stochastic processes

We consider stationary stochastic processes $X_n$, $n\in \mathbb{Z}$ such that $X_0$ lies in the closed linear span of $X_n$, $n\neq 0$; following Ghosh and Peres, we call such processes linearly rigid. Using a criterion of Kolmogorov, we show that it suffices, for a stationary stochastic process to be rigid, that the spectral density vanish at zero and belong to the Zygmund class $Λ_{*}(1)$. We next give sufficient condition for stationary determinantal point processes on $\mathbb{Z}$ and on $\mathbb{R}$ to be rigid. Finally, we show that the determinantal point process on $\mathbb{R}^2$ induced by a tensor square of Dyson sine-kernels is $\textit{not}$ linearly rigid.

Infinite Random Matrices and Ergodic decomposition of Finite or Infinite Hua-Pickrell measures

The ergodic decomposition of a family of Hua-Pickrell measures on the space of infinite Hermitian matrices is studied. Firstly, we show that the ergodic components of Hua-Pickrell probability measures have no Gaussian factors, this extends a result of Alexei Borodin and Grigori Olshanski. Secondly, we show that the sequence of asymptotic eigenvalues of Hua-Pickrell random matrices is balanced in certain sense and has a "principal value" coincides with the $γ_1$ parameter of ergodic components. This allow us to complete the program of Borodin and Olshanski on the description of the ergodic decomposition of Hua-Pickrell probability measures. Finally, we extend the aforesaid results to the case of infinite Hua-Pickrell measues. By using the theory of $σ$-finite infinite determinantal measures recently introduced by A. I. Bufetov, we are able to identify the ergodic decomposition of Hua-Pickrell infinite measures to some explicit $σ$-finite determinantal measures on the space of point configurations in $\mathbb{R}^*$. The paper resolves a problem of Borodin and Olshanski.

On the effect of rearrangement on complex interpolation for families of Banach spaces

We give a new proof to show that the complex interpolation for families of Banach spaces is not stable under rearrangement of the given family on the boundary, although, by a result due to Coifman, Cwikel, Rochberg, Sagher and Weiss, it is stable when the latter family takes only 2 values. The non-stability for families taking 3 values was first obtained by Cwikel and Janson. Our method links this problem to the theory of matrix-valued Toeplitz operator and we are able to characterize all the transformations on $\T$ that are invariant for complex interpolation at 0, they are precisely the origin-preserving inner functions.

On the \text{UMD} constants for a class of iterated $L_p(L_q)$ spaces

Let $1 < p \neq q < \infty $ and $(D, μ) = (\{\pm 1\}, 1/2 δ_{-1} + 1/2 δ_1)$. Define by recursion: $X_0 = \C$ and $X_{n+1} = L_p(μ; L_q(μ; X_n))$. In this paper, we show that there exist $c_1=c_1(p, q)>1$ depending only on $p, q$ and $ c_2 = c_2(p, q, s)$ depending on $p, q, s$, such that the $\text{UMD}_s$ constants of $X_n$'s satisfy $c_1^n \leq C_s(X_n) \leq c_2^n$ for all $1 < s < \infty$. Similar results will be showed for the analytic $\text{UMD}$ constants. We mention that the first super-reflexive non-$\text{UMD}$ Banach lattices were constructed by Bourgain. Our results yield another elementary construction of super-reflexive non-$\text{UMD}$ Banach lattices, i.e. the inductive limit of $X_n$, which can be viewed as iterating infinitely many times $L_p(L_q)$.
