A Palm hierarchy for determinantal point processes with the confluent hypergeometric kernel, the decomposing measures in the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite-dimensional unitary group

The main result of this note is that the shift of the parameter by 1 in the parameter space of decomposing measures in the problem of harmonic analysis on the infinite-dimensional unitary group corresponds to the taking of the reduced Palm measure at infinity for our decomposing measures. The proof proceeds by finite-dimensional approximation of our measures by orthogonal polynomial ensembles. The key remark is that the taking the reduced Palm measure commutes with the scaling limit transition from finite to infinite particle systems.

Hölder regularity for the spectrum of translation flows

The paper is devoted to generic translation flows corresponding to Abelian differentials on flat surfaces of arbitrary genus $g\ge 2$. These flows are weakly mixing by the Avila-Forni theorem. In genus 2, the Hölder property for the spectral measures of these flows was established in our papers [10,12]. Recently Forni [17], motivated by [10], obtained Hölder estimates for spectral measures in the case of surfaces of arbitrary genus. Here we combine Forni's idea with the symbolic approach of [10] and prove Hölder regularity for spectral measures of flows on random Markov compacta, in particular, for translation flows in all genera.

Convergence of spherical averages for actions of Fuchsian Groups

Pointwise convergence of spherical averages is proved for a measure-preserving action of a Fuchsian group. The proof is based on a new variant of the Bowen-Series symbolic coding for Fuchsian groups that, developing a method introduced by Wroten, simultaneously encodes all possible shortest paths representing a given group element. The resulting coding is self-inverse, giving a reversible Markov chain to which methods previously introduced by the first author for the case of free groups may be applied.

The Patterson-Sullivan Interpolation of Pluriharmonic Functions for Determinantal Point Processes on Complex Hyperbolic Spaces

The Patterson-Sullivan construction is proved almost surely to recover a Bergman function from its values on a random discrete subset sampled with the determinantal point process induced by the Bergman kernel on the unit ball $\mathbb{D}_d$ in $\mathbb{C}^d$. For super-critical weighted Bergman spaces, the interpolation is uniform when the functions range over the unit ball of the weighted Bergman space. As main results, we obtain a necessary and sufficient condition for interpolation of a fixed pluriharmonic function in the complex hyperbolic space of arbitrary dimension (cf. Theorem 1.4 and Theorem 4.11); optimal simultaneous uniform interpolation for weighted Bergman spaces (cf. Theorem 1.8, Proposition 1.9 and Theorem 4.13); strong simultaneous uniform interpolation for weighted harmonic Hardy spaces (cf. Theorem 1.11 and Theorem 4.15); and establish the impossibility of the uniform simultaneous interpolation for the Bergman space $A^2(\mathbb{D}_d)$ on $\mathbb{D}_d$ (cf. Theorem 1.12 and Theorem 6.7).

On the Rate of Convergence in the Central Limit Theorem for Linear Statistics of Gaussian, Laguerre, and Jacobi Ensembles

Under the Kolmogorov--Smirnov metric, an upper bound on the rate of convergence to the Gaussian distribution is obtained for linear statistics of the matrix ensembles in the case of the Gaussian, Laguerre, and Jacobi weights. The main lemma gives an estimate for the characteristic functions of the linear statistics; this estimate is uniform over the growing interval. The proof of the lemma relies on the Riemann--Hilbert approach.

Conditional measures of determinantal point processes

For a class of one-dimensional determinantal point processes including those induced by orthogonal projections with integrable kernels satisfying a growth condition, it is proved that their conditional measures, with respect to the configuration in the complement of a compact interval, are orthogonal polynomial ensembles with explicitly found weights. Examples include the sine-process and the process with the Bessel kernel. The argument uses the quasi-invariance, established in [1], of our point processes under the group of piecewise isometries of the real line.

Determinantal point processes associated with Hilbert spaces of holomorphic functions

We study determinantal point processes on $\mathbb{C}$ induced by the reproducing kernels of generalized Fock spaces as well as those on the unit disc $\mathbb{D}$ induced by the reproducing kernels of generalized Bergman spaces. In the first case, we show that all reduced Palm measures $\textit{of the same order}$ are equivalent. The Radon-Nikodym derivatives are computed explicitly using regularized multiplicative functionals. We also show that these determinantal point processes are rigid in the sense of Ghosh and Peres, hence reduced Palm measures $\textit{of different orders}$ are singular. In the second case, we show that all reduced Palm measures, $\textit{of all orders}$, are equivalent. The Radon-Nikodym derivatives are computed using regularized multiplicative functionals associated with certain Blaschke products. The quasi-invariance of these determinantal point processes under the group of diffeomorphisms with compact supports follows as a corollary.

Infinite Determinantal Measures and The Ergodic Decomposition of Infinite Pickrell Measures I. Construction of infinite determinantal measures

This paper is the first in a series of three. The main result, Theorem 1.11, gives an explicit description of the ergodic decomposition for infinite Pickrell measures on spaces of infinite complex matrices. The main construction is that of sigma-finite analogues of determinantal measures on spaces of configurations. An example is the infinite Bessel point process, the scaling limit of sigma-finite analogues of Jacobi orthogonal polynomial ensembles. The statement of Theorem 1.11 is that the infinite Bessel point process (subject to an appropriate change of variables) is precisely the ergodic decomposition measure for infinite Pickrell measures.

Infinite Determinantal Measures and The Ergodic Decomposition of Infinite Pickrell Measures II. Convergence of determinantal measures

The second part of the paper mainly deals with convergence of infinite determinantal measures, understood as the convergence of the approximating finite determinantal measures. In addition to the usual weak topology on the space of probability measures on the space of configurations, we also consider the weak topology on the space of finite measures on the space of finite measures on the half-line, used via the natural immersion, well-defined almost surely with respect to the infinite Bessel point process, of the space of configurations into the space of finite measures on the half-line. The main results of the second part are sufficient conditions for tightness of families of determinantal measures, for convergence of sequences of induced proceses, as well as for sequences of finite-dimensional perturbations of determinantal processes.

Linear rigidity of stationary stochastic processes

We consider stationary stochastic processes $X_n$, $n\in \mathbb{Z}$ such that $X_0$ lies in the closed linear span of $X_n$, $n\neq 0$; following Ghosh and Peres, we call such processes linearly rigid. Using a criterion of Kolmogorov, we show that it suffices, for a stationary stochastic process to be rigid, that the spectral density vanish at zero and belong to the Zygmund class $Λ_{*}(1)$. We next give sufficient condition for stationary determinantal point processes on $\mathbb{Z}$ and on $\mathbb{R}$ to be rigid. Finally, we show that the determinantal point process on $\mathbb{R}^2$ induced by a tensor square of Dyson sine-kernels is $\textit{not}$ linearly rigid.

On Hoelder-continuity of Oseledets subspaces

For Hoelder cocycles over a Lipschitz base transformation, possibly non-invertible, we show that the subbundles given by the Oseledets Theorem are Hoelder-continuous on compact sets of measure arbitrarily close to 1. The results extend to vector bundle automorphisms, as well as to the Kontsevich-Zorich cocycle over the Teichmueller flow on the moduli space of abelian differentials. Following a recent result of Chaika-Eskin, our results also extend to any given Teichmueller disk.

Quasi-Symmetries of Determinantal Point Processes

The main result of this paper is that determinantal point processes on the real line corresponding to projection operators with integrable kernels are quasi-invariant, in the continuous case, under the group of diffeomorphisms with compact support (Theorem 1.4); in the discrete case, under the group of all finite permutations of the phase space (Theorem 1.6). The Radon-Nikodym derivative is computed explicitly and is given by a regularized multiplicative functional. Theorem 1.4 applies, in particular, to the sine-process, as well as to determinantal point processes with the Bessel and the Airy kernels; Theorem 1.6 to the discrete sine-process and the Gamma kernel process. The paper answers a question of Grigori Olshanski.

Rigidity of Determinantal Point Processes with the Airy, the Bessel and the Gamma Kernel

A point process is said to be rigid if for any bounded domain in the phase space, the number of particles in the domain is almost surely determined by the restriction of the configuration to the complement of our bounded domain. The main result of this paper is that determinantal point processes with the Airy, the Bessel and the Gamma kernels are rigid. The proof follows the scheme of Ghosh [6], Ghosh and Peres [7]: the main step is the construction of a sequence of additive statistics with variance going to zero.

On the modulus of continuity for spectral measures in substitution dynamics

The paper gives first quantitative estimates on the modulus of continuity of the spectral measure for weak mixing suspension flows over substitution automorphisms, which yield information about the "fractal" structure of these measures. The main results are, first, a Hoelder estimate for the spectral measure of almost all suspension flows with a piecewise constant roof function; second, a log-Hoelder estimate for self-similar suspension flows; and, third, a Hoelder asymptotic expansion of the spectral measure at zero for such flows. Our second result implies log-Hoelder estimates for the spectral measures of translation flows along stable foliations of pseudo-Anosov automorphisms. A key technical tool in the proof of the second result is an "arithmetic-Diophantine" proposition, which has other applications. In the appendix this proposition is used to derive new decay estimates for the Fourier transforms of Bernoulli convolutions.

Ergodic Decomposition for Measures Quasi-Invariant Under Borel Actions of Inductively Compact Groups

The aim of this paper is to prove ergodic decomposition theorems for probability measures quasi-invariant under Borel actions of inductively compact groups (Theorem 1) as well as for sigma-finite invariant measures (Corollary 1). For infinite measures the ergodic decomposition is not unique, but the measure class of the decomposing measure on the space of projective measures is uniquely defined by the initial invariant measure (Theorem 2).

Infinite Determinantal Measures

Infinite determinantal measures introduced in this note are inductive limits of determinantal measures on an exhausting family of subsets of the phase space. Alternatively, an infinite determinantal measure can be described as a product of a determinantal process and a convergent, but not integrable, multiplicative functional. Theorem 2, the main result announced in this note, gives an explicit description for the ergodic decomposition of infinite Pickrell measures on the spaces of infinite complex matrices in terms of infinite determinantal measures obtained by finite-rank perturbations of Bessel point processes.

On the Vershik-Kerov Conjecture Concerning the Shannon-McMillan-Breiman Theorem for the Plancherel Family of Measures on the Space of Young Diagrams

Vershik and Kerov conjectured in 1985 that dimensions of irreducible representations of finite symmetric groups, after appropriate normalization, converge to a constant with respect to the Plancherel family of measures on the space of Young diagrams. The statement of the Vershik-Kerov conjecture can be seen as an analogue of the Shannon-McMillan-Breiman Theorem for the non-stationary Markov process of the growth of a Young diagram. The limiting constant is then interpreted as the entropy of the Plancherel measure. The main result of the paper is the proof of the Vershik-Kerov conjecture. The argument is based on the methods of Borodin, Okounkov and Olshanski.

Deviation of ergodic averages for substitution dynamical systems with eigenvalues of modulus one

Deviation of ergodic sums is studied for substitution dynamical systems with a matrix that admits eigenvalues of modulus 1. We consider the corresponding eigenfunctions, and in Theorem 1.1 we prove that the limit inferior of the ergodic sums is bounded for every point in the phase space. In Theorem 1.2, we prove existence of limit distributions along certain exponential subsequences of times for substitutions of constant length. Under additional assumptions, we prove that ergodic integrals satisfy the Central Limit Theorem (Theorem 1.3, Theorem 1.9).

Finiteness of Ergodic Unitarily Invariant Measures on Spaces of Infinite Matrices

The main result of this note, Theorem 2, is the following: a Borel measure on the space of infinite Hermitian matrices, that is invariant under the action of the infinite unitary group and that admits well-defined projections onto the quotient space of "corners" of finite size, must be finite. A similar result, Theorem 1, is also established for unitarily invariant measures on the space of all infinite complex matrices. These results, combined with the ergodic decomposition theorem of [3], imply that the infinite Hua-Pickrell measures of Borodin and Olshanski [2] have finite ergodic components. The proof is based on the approach of Olshanski and Vershik [6]. First, it is shown that if the sequence of orbital measures assigned to almost every point is weakly precompact, then our ergodic measure must indeed be finite. The second step, which completes the proof, shows that if a unitarily-invariant measure admits well-defined projections onto the quotient space of finite corners, then for almost every point the corresponing sequence of orbital measures is indeed weakly precompact.

Finitely-additive measures on the asymptotic foliations of a Markov compactum

An asymptotic expansion is established for time averages of translation flows on flat surfaces. This result, which extends earlier work of A.Zorich and G.Forni, yields limit theorems for translation flows. The argument, close in spirit to that of G.Forni, uses the approximation of ergodic integrals by holonomy-invariant Hoelder cocycles on trajectories of the flows. The space of holonomy-invariant Hoelder cocycles is finite-dimensional, and is given by an explicit construction. First, a symbolic representation for a uniquely ergodic translation flow is obtained following S.Ito and A.M. Vershik, and then, the space of cocycles is constructed using a family of finitely-additive complex-valued holonomy-invariant measures on the asymptotic foliations of a Markov compactum.

Logarithmic asymptotics for the number of periodic orbits of the Teichmueller flow on Veech's space of zippered rectangles

The logarithmic asymptotics for the growth of the number of periodic orbits, such that the norm of the corresponding renormalization matrix does not exceed a given constant, is computed for the Teichmueller flow on Veech's moduli space of zippered rectangles. The rate is equal to the entropy of the flow with respect to the absolutely continuous invariant measure.

Decay of Correlations for the Rauzy-Veech-Zorich Induction Map on the Space of Interval Exchange Transformations and the Central Limit Theorem for the Teichmueller Flow on the Moduli Space of Abelian Differentials

A stretched-exponential bound is obtained for the decay of correlations of the Rauzy-Veech-Zorich induction map on the space of interval exchange transformations. A Corollary is the Central Limit Theorem for the Teichmueller flow on the moduli space of abelian differentials. The proof involves an approximation of the induction map by a Markov chain satisfying the Doeblin condition, the method of Sinai and Bunimovich--Sinai. The main estimate is Lemma 4. As a corollary of such "loss of memory" estimates, integrability of a small power of the Kontsevich-Zorich cocycle is obtained, thus yielding a variant of J.Athreya's exponential bound on the probability of returns of the Teichmueller flow into compact sets. An earlier version of this preprint is available from the preprint archive of the Erwin Schroedinger Institute, Vienna, www.esi.ac.at, preprint no.1593 (Jan. 2005).
