Homological mirror symmetry for Milnor fibers via moduli of $A_\infty$-structures

We show that the base spaces of the semiuniversal unfoldings of some weighted homogeneous singularities can be identified with moduli spaces of $A_\infty$-structures on the trivial extension algebras of the endomorphism algebras of the tilting objects. The same algebras also appear in the Fukaya categories of their mirrors. Based on these identifications, we discuss applications to homological mirror symmetry for Milnor fibers, and give a proof of homological mirror symmetry for an $n$-dimensional affine hypersurface of degree $n + 2$ and the double cover of the $n$-dimensional affine space branched along a degree $2n + 2$ hypersurface. Along the way, we also give a proof of a conjecture of Seidel from math/0206155 which may be of independent interest.

Symplectic cohomology of compound Du Val singularities

We compute symplectic cohomology for Milnor fibres of certain compound Du Val singularities that admit small resolution by using homological mirror symmetry. Our computations suggest a new conjecture that the existence of a small resolution has strong implications for the symplectic cohomology and conversely. We also use our computations to give a contact invariant of the link of the singularities and thereby distinguish many contact structures on connected sums of $S^2 \times S^3$.

Homological mirror symmetry for Milnor fibers of simple singularities

We prove homological mirror symmetry for Milnor fibers of simple singularities in dimensions greater than one, which are among the log Fano cases of Conjecture 1.5 in arXiv:1806.04345. The proof is based on a relation between matrix factorizations and Calabi--Yau completions. As an application, we give an explicit computation of the Hochschild cohomology group of the derived $n$-preprojective algebra of a Dynkin quiver for any $n \geq 1$, and the symplectic cohomology group of the Milnor fiber of any simple singularity in any dimension greater than one.

Homological mirror symmetry for higher dimensional pairs of pants

Using Auroux's description of Fukaya categories of symmetric products of punctured surfaces, we compute the partially wrapped Fukaya category of the complement of $k+1$ generic hyperplanes in $\mathbb{CP}^n$, for $k \geq n$, with respect to certain stops in terms of the endomorphism algebra of a generating set of objects. The stops are chosen so that the resulting algebra is formal. In the case of the complement of $(n+2)$-generic hyperplanes in $\mathbb{C}P^n$ ($n$-dimensional pair-of-pants), we show that our partial wrapped Fukaya category is equivalent to a certain categorical resolution of the derived category of the singular affine variety $x_1x_2..x_{n+1}=0$. By localizing, we deduce that the (fully) wrapped Fukaya category of $n$-dimensional pants is equivalent to the derived category of $x_1x_2...x_{n+1}=0$. We also prove similar equivalences for finite abelian covers of the $n$-dimensional pair-of-pants.

The symplectic geometry of higher Auslander algebras: Symmetric products of disks

We show that the perfect derived categories of Iyama's $d$-dimensional Auslander algebras of type $\mathbb{A}$ are equivalent to the partially wrapped Fukaya categories of the $d$-fold symmetric product of the $2$-dimensional unit disk with finitely many stops on its boundary. Furthermore, we observe that Koszul duality provides an equivalence between the partially wrapped Fukaya categories associated to the $d$-fold symmetric product of the disk and those of its $(n-d)$-fold symmetric product; this observation leads to a symplectic proof of a theorem of Beckert concerning the derived Morita equivalence between the corresponding higher Auslander algebras of type $\mathbb{A}$. As a byproduct of our results, we deduce that the partially wrapped Fukaya categories associated to the $d$-fold symmetric product of the disk organise into a paracyclic object equivalent to the $d$-dimensional Waldhausen $\operatorname{S}$-construction, a simplicial space whose geometric realisation provides the $d$-fold delooping of the connective algebraic $K$-theory space of the ring of coefficients.

Arithmetic mirror symmetry for genus 1 curves with $n$ marked points

We establish a $\mathbb{Z}[[t_1,\ldots, t_n]]$-linear derived equivalence between the relative Fukaya category of the 2-torus with $n$ distinct marked points and the derived category of perfect complexes on the $n$-Tate curve. Specialising to $t_1= \ldots =t_n=0$ gives a $\mathbb{Z}$-linear derived equivalence between the Fukaya category of the $n$-punctured torus and the derived category of perfect complexes on the standard (Néron) $n$-gon. We prove that this equivalence extends to a $\mathbb{Z}$-linear derived equivalence between the wrapped Fukaya category of the $n$-punctured torus and the derived category of coherent sheaves on the standard $n$-gon.

Floer cohomology of the Chiang Lagrangian

We study holomorphic discs with boundary on a Lagrangian submanifold $L$ in a Kaehler manifold admitting a Hamiltonian action of a group $K$ which has $L$ as an orbit. We prove various transversality and classification results for such discs which we then apply to the case of a particular Lagrangian in $\mathbf{CP}^3$ first noticed by Chiang. We prove that this Lagrangian has non-vanishing Floer cohomology if and only if the coefficient ring has characteristic 5, in which case it generates the split-closed derived Fukaya category as a triangulated category.

Arithmetic mirror symmetry for the 2-torus

This paper explores a refinement of homological mirror symmetry which relates exact symplectic topology to arithmetic algebraic geometry. We establish a derived equivalence of the Fukaya category of the 2-torus, relative to a basepoint, with the category of perfect complexes of coherent sheaves on the Tate curve over the "formal disc" Spec Z[[q]]. It specializes to a derived equivalence, over Z, of the Fukaya category of the punctured torus with perfect complexes on the curve y^2+xy=x^3 over Spec Z, the central fibre of the Tate curve; and, over the "punctured disc" Spec Z((q)), to an integral refinement of the known statement of homological mirror symmetry for the 2-torus. We also prove that the wrapped Fukaya category of the punctured torus is derived-equivalent over Z to bounded complexes of coherent sheaves on the central fiber of the Tate curve.

Heegaard Floer homology of broken fibrations over the circle

We extend Perutz's Lagrangian matching invariants to 3-manifolds which are not necessarily fibred using the technology of holomorphic quilts. We prove an isomorphism of these invariants with Ozsvath-Szabo's Heegaard Floer invariants for certain extremal spin^c structures. As applications, we give new calculations of Heegaard Floer homology of certain classes of 3-manifolds, and a characterization of Juhasz's sutured Floer homology.

The symplectic topology of some rational homology balls

We study the symplectic topology of some finite algebraic quotients of the An Milnor fibre which are diffeomorphic to the rational homology balls that appear in Fintushel and Stern's rational blowdown construction. We prove that these affine surfaces have no closed exact Lagrangian submanifolds by using the already available and deep understanding of the Fukaya category of the An Milnor fibre coming from homological mirror symmetry. On the other hand, we find Floer theoretically essential monotone Lagrangian tori, finitely covered by the monotone tori which we study in the An Milnor fibre. We conclude that these affine surfaces have non-vanishing symplectic cohomology.

Fukaya categories of the torus and Dehn surgery

This paper is a companion to the authors' forthcoming work extending Heegaard Floer theory from closed 3-manifolds to compact 3-manifolds with two boundary components via quilted Floer cohomology. We describe the first interesting case of this theory: the invariants of 3-manifolds bounding S^2 union T^2, regarded as modules over the Fukaya category of the punctured 2-torus. We extract a short proof of exactness of the Dehn surgery triangle in Heegaard Floer homology. We show that A-infinity structures on the graded algebra A formed by the cohomology of two basic objects in the Fukaya category of the punctured 2-torus are governed by just two parameters (m^6,m^8), extracted from the Hochschild cohomology of A. For the Fukaya category itself, m^6 is nonzero.

Planar open books with four binding components

We study an explicit construction of planar open books with four binding components on any three-manifold which is given by integral surgery on three component pure braid closures. This construction is general, indeed any planar open book with four binding components is given this way. Using this construction and results on exceptional surgeries on hyperbolic links, we show that any contact structure of S^3 supports a planar open book with four binding components, determining the minimal number of binding components needed for planar open books supporting these contact structures. In addition, we study a class of monodromies of a planar open book with four binding components in detail. We characterize all the symplectically fillable contact structures in this class and we determine when the Ozsvath-Szabo contact invariant vanishes. As an application, we give an example of a right-veering diffeomorphism on the four-holed sphere which is not destabilizable and yet supports an overtwisted contact structure. This provides a counterexample to a conjecture of Honda, Kazez, Matic from arXiv:0609734 .

Wrinkled fibrations on near-symplectic manifolds

Motivated by the programmes initiated by Taubes and Perutz, we study the geometry of near-symplectic 4-manifolds, i.e., manifolds equipped with a closed 2-form which is symplectic outside a union of embedded 1-dimensional submanifolds, and broken Lefschetz fibrations on them. We present a set of four moves which allow us to pass from any given fibration to any other broken fibration which is deformation equivalent to it. Moreover, we study the change of the near-symplectic geometry under each of these moves. The arguments rely on the introduction of a more general class of maps, which we call wrinkled fibrations and which allow us to rely on classical singularity theory. Finally, we illustrate these constructions by showing how one can merge components of the zero-set of the near-symplectic form. We also disprove a conjecture of Gay and Kirby by showing that any achiral broken Lefschetz fibration can be turned into a broken Lefschetz fibration by applying a sequence of our moves.
