Does the radio-active phase of XTE~J1810$-$197 recur following the same evolutionary pattern?

Magnetars are the most strongly magnetized compact objects known in the Universe and are regarded as one of the primary engines powering a variety of enigmatic, high-energy transients. However, our understanding of magnetars remains highly limited, constrained by observational sample size and radiative variability. XTE~J1810$-$197, which re-entered a radio-active phase in 2018, is one of only six known radio-pulsating magnetars. Leveraging the distinctive capability for simultaneous dual-frequency observations, we utilized the Shanghai Tianma Radio Telescope (TMRT) to monitor this magnetar continuously at both 2.25 and 8.60~GHz, capturing its entire evolution from radio activation to quenching. This enabled precise characterization of the evolution in its integrated profile, spin frequency, flux density, and spectral index ($α$, defined by $S \propto f^α$). The first time derivative of its spin frequency $\dotν$ passed through four distinct phases -- rapid decrease, violent oscillation, steady decline, and stable recovery -- before returning to its pre-outburst value concomitant with the cessation of radio emission. Remarkably, both the amplitudes and the characteristic time-scales of these $\dotν$ variations match those observed during the previous outburst that began in 2003, providing the first demonstration that post-outburst rotational evolution and radiative behavior in a magnetar are repeatable. A twisted-magnetosphere model can qualitatively account for this repeatability as well as for the progressive narrowing and abrupt disappearance of the radio pulse radiation, thereby receiving strong observational support.

1T-FeS$_2$$:$ a new type of two-dimensional metallic ferromagnet

Discovery of intrinsic two-dimensional (2D) magnetic materials is crucial for understanding the fundamentals of 2D magnetism and realizing next-generation magnetoelectronic and magneto-optical devices. Although significant efforts have been devoted to identifying 2D magnetism by exfoliating bulk magnetic layered materials, seldom studies are performed to synthesize ultra-thin magnetic materials directly for non-layered magnetic materials. Here, we report the successful synthesis of a new type of theoretically proposed 2D metallic ferromagnet 1T FeS2, through the molten-salt-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) method. The long-range 2D ferromagnetic order is confirmed by the observation of a large anomalous Hall effect (AHE) and a hysteretic magnetoresistance. The experimentally detected out-of-plane ferromagnetic ordering is theoretically suported with Stoner criterion. Our findings open up new possibilities to search novel 2D ferromagnets in non-layered compounds and render opportunities for realizing realistic ultra-thin spintronic devices.

A novel adversarial learning strategy for medical image classification

Deep learning (DL) techniques have been extensively utilized for medical image classification. Most DL-based classification networks are generally structured hierarchically and optimized through the minimization of a single loss function measured at the end of the networks. However, such a single loss design could potentially lead to optimization of one specific value of interest but fail to leverage informative features from intermediate layers that might benefit classification performance and reduce the risk of overfitting. Recently, auxiliary convolutional neural networks (AuxCNNs) have been employed on top of traditional classification networks to facilitate the training of intermediate layers to improve classification performance and robustness. In this study, we proposed an adversarial learning-based AuxCNN to support the training of deep neural networks for medical image classification. Two main innovations were adopted in our AuxCNN classification framework. First, the proposed AuxCNN architecture includes an image generator and an image discriminator for extracting more informative image features for medical image classification, motivated by the concept of generative adversarial network (GAN) and its impressive ability in approximating target data distribution. Second, a hybrid loss function is designed to guide the model training by incorporating different objectives of the classification network and AuxCNN to reduce overfitting. Comprehensive experimental studies demonstrated the superior classification performance of the proposed model. The effect of the network-related factors on classification performance was investigated.

Efficient Re-parameterization Operations Search for Easy-to-Deploy Network Based on Directional Evolutionary Strategy

Structural re-parameterization (Rep) methods has achieved significant performance improvement on traditional convolutional network. Most current Rep methods rely on prior knowledge to select the reparameterization operations. However, the performance of architecture is limited by the type of operations and prior knowledge. To break this restriction, in this work, an improved re-parameterization search space is designed, which including more type of re-parameterization operations. Concretely, the performance of convolutional networks can be further improved by the search space. To effectively explore this search space, an automatic re-parameterization enhancement strategy is designed based on neural architecture search (NAS), which can search a excellent re-parameterization architecture. Besides, we visualize the output features of the architecture to analyze the reasons for the formation of the re-parameterization architecture. On public datasets, we achieve better results. Under the same training conditions as ResNet, we improve the accuracy of ResNet-50 by 1.82% on ImageNet-1k.

Moment map, convex function and extremal point

The moment map $μ$ is a central concept in the study of Hamiltonian actions of compact Lie groups $K$ on symplectic manifolds. In this short note, we propose a theory of moment maps coupled with an $\mathrm{Ad}_K$-invariant convex function $f$ on $\mathfrak{k}^{\ast}$, the dual of Lie algebra of $K$, and study the properties of the critical point of $f\circμ$. Our motivation comes from Donaldson \cite{Donaldson2017} which is an example of infinite dimensional version of our setting. As an application, we interpret Kähler-Ricci solitons as a special case of the generalized extremal metric.

Optimal monitoring location for risk tracking of geotechnical systems: theory and application to tunneling excavation risks

The maturity of structural health monitoring technology brings ever-increasing opportunities for geotechnical structures and underground infrastructure systems to track the risk of structural failure, such as settlement-induced building damage, based on the monitored data. Reliability updating techniques can offer solutions to estimate the probability of failing to meet a prescribed objective using various types of information that are inclusive of equality and inequality. However, the update in reliability can be highly sensitive to monitoring location. Therefore, there may exist optimal locations in a system for monitoring that yield the maximum value for reliability updating. This paper proposes a computational framework for optimal monitoring location based on an innovative metric called sensitivity of information (SOI) that quantifies the relative change in unconditional and conditional reliability indexes. A state-of-the-practice case of risks posed by tunneling-induced settlement to buildings is explored in-depth to demonstrate and evaluate the computational efficiency of the proposed framework.

A New Series Representation Involving Root Of Unity For The Values Of Riemann Zeta Function At Integer Arguments

In this paper we provide a new series representation for the values of Riemann zeta function at integer arguments, namely: $ ζ(m)=\sum_{n=1}^{\infty}\frac{m(-1)^{n-1}Γ(1-ω_{m}n)...Γ(1-ω_{m}^{m-1}n)}{n!n^m}$, where $n$ is an integer that lager than $1$ and $ω$ is the $m$-th root of unity. This series converges quite fast. It's derived by some technique of infinite partial fraction decomposition. With this technique we also establish other useful formulas related to gamma function.

Algebraicity of the Metric Tangent Cones and Equivariant K-stability

We prove two new results on the K-polystability of Q-Fano varieties based on purely algebro-geometric arguments. The first one says that any K-semistable log Fano cone has a special degeneration to a uniquely determined K-polystable log Fano cone. As a corollary, we combine it with the differential-geometric results to complete the proof of Donaldson-Sun's Conjecture which says that the metric tangent cone of any close point appearing on a Gromov-Hausdorff limit of Kahler-Einstein Fano manifolds only depends on the algebraic structure of the singularity. The second result says that for any log Fano variety with a torus action, the K-polystability is equivalent to the equivariant K-polystability, that is, to check K-polystability, it is sufficient to check special test configurations which are equivariant under the torus action.

Inductive Granger Causal Modeling for Multivariate Time Series

Granger causal modeling is an emerging topic that can uncover Granger causal relationship behind multivariate time series data. In many real-world systems, it is common to encounter a large amount of multivariate time series data collected from different individuals with sharing commonalities. However, there are ongoing concerns regarding Granger causality's applicability in such large scale complex scenarios, presenting both challenges and opportunities for Granger causal structure reconstruction. Existing methods usually train a distinct model for each individual, suffering from inefficiency and over-fitting issues. To bridge this gap, we propose an Inductive GRanger cAusal modeling (InGRA) framework for inductive Granger causality learning and common causal structure detection on multivariate time series, which exploits the shared commonalities underlying the different individuals. In particular, we train one global model for individuals with different Granger causal structures through a novel attention mechanism, called prototypical Granger causal attention. The model can detect common causal structures for different individuals and infer Granger causal structures for newly arrived individuals. Extensive experiments, as well as an online A/B test on an E-commercial advertising platform, demonstrate the superior performances of InGRA.

On Some Integral Representation Of $ζ(n)$ Involving Nielsen's Generalized Polylogarithms And The Related Partition Problem

In this paper, we study a family of single variable integral representations for some products of $ζ(2n+1)$, where $ζ(z)$ is Riemann zeta function and $n$ is positive integer. Such representation involves the integral $Lz(a,b):=\frac{1}{(a-1)!b!}\int_{0}^{1}\log^a (t)\log^b (1-t)dt/t$ with positive integers $a,b$, which is related to Nielsen's generalized polylogarithms. By analyzing the related partition problem, we discuss the structure of such integral representation, especially the condition of expressing products of $ζ(2n+1)$ by finite $\mathbb{Q}(π)$-linear combination of $Lz(a,b)$.

Some estimates of the generalized beukers integral with techniques of partial fraction decomposition

In this paper we establish the generalized Beukers integral $I_{m}(a_{1},...,a_{n})$ with some methods of partial fraction decomposition. Thus one obtains an explicit expression of the generalized Beukers integral. Further, we estimate the rational denominator of $I$ and. In the second section of this paper, we provide some estimates of the upper and lower bound of the value $J_{3}$, which involves the generalized Beukers integral and is related to $ζ(5)$.

The summation of infinite partial fraction decomposition I: some formulae related to the Hurwitz zeta function

In this paper we establish a new summation method by expanding $\prod_{k}(1-\frac{z}{a_{k}})^{-1}$ with two approaches: the Taylor expansion and the infinite partial fraction decomposition. Here we focus on the case when $a_{k}$ is arithmetic sequence. By this summation we obtain many equalities involve Hurwitz zeta function and Gammma function.

Active Lighting Recurrence by Parallel Lighting Analogy for Fine-Grained Change Detection

This paper studies a new problem, namely active lighting recurrence (ALR) that physically relocalizes a light source to reproduce the lighting condition from single reference image for a same scene, which may suffer from fine-grained changes during twice observations. ALR is of great importance for fine-grained visual inspection and change detection, because some phenomena or minute changes can only be clearly observed under particular lighting conditions. Therefore, effective ALR should be able to online navigate a light source toward the target pose, which is challenging due to the complexity and diversity of real-world lighting and imaging processes. To this end, we propose to use the simple parallel lighting as an analogy model and based on Lambertian law to compose an instant navigation ball for this purpose. We theoretically prove the feasibility, i.e., equivalence and convergence, of this ALR approach for realistic near point light source and small near surface light source. Besides, we also theoretically prove the invariance of our ALR approach to the ambiguity of normal and lighting decomposition. The effectiveness and superiority of the proposed approach have been verified by both extensive quantitative experiments and challenging real-world tasks on fine-grained change detection of cultural heritages. We also validate the generality of our approach to non-Lambertian scenes.

Continuity of the Weil-Petersson potential

Let $\mathcal{M}_{\rm KSB}$ (resp. $\mathcal{M}_{\rm KSB}'$) be the the moduli space of $n$-dimensional Kähler-Einstein manifolds (resp. varieties) $X$ with $K_X$ ample. We prove that the Weil-Petersson metric on $\mathcal{M}_{\rm KSB}$ extends uniquely to the projective variety $\mathcal{M}_{\rm KSB}'$, as a closed positive current with continuous local potentials. This generalizes a theorem of Wolpert which treats the case $n=1$, and also confirms a conjecture of Berman-Guenancia. In addition, we derive uniform estimates for the volumes of sublevel sets of Kähler-Einstein potentials

Riemannian geometry of Kahler-Einstein currents III: compactness of Kahler-Einstein manifolds of negative scalar curvature

Let $\mathcal{K}(n, V)$ be the set of $n$-dimensional compact Kahler-Einstein manifolds $(X, g)$ satisfying $Ric(g)= - g$ with volume bounded above by $V$. We prove that after passing to a subsequence, any sequence $\{ (X_j, g_j)\}_{j=1}^\infty$ in $\mathcal{K}(n, V)$ converges, in the pointed Gromov-Hausdorff topology, to a finite union of complete Kahler-Einstein metric spaces without loss of volume. The convergence is smooth off a closed singular set of Hausdorff dimension no greater than $2n-4$, and the limiting metric space is biholomorphic to an $n$-dimensional semi-log canonical model with its non log terminal locus of complex dimension no greater than $n-1$ removed. We also show that the Weil-Petersson metric extends uniquely to a Kahler current with bounded local potentials on the KSBA compactification of the moduli space of canonically polarized manifolds. In particular, the coarse KSBA moduli space has finite volume with respect to the Weil-Petersson metric. Our results are a high dimensional generalization of the well known compactness results for hyperbolic metrics on compact Riemann surfaces of fixed genus greater than one.

Role of rotational coherence in femtosecond-pulse-driven nitrogen ion lasing

We experimentally investigated the rotationally resolved polarization characteristics of N$_2^+$ lasing at 391 and 428 nm using a pump-seed scheme. By varying the relative angle between the linear polarizations of the pump and seed, it is found that the polarizations of the P and R branches of 391-nm lasing are counter-rotated. By contrast, both branches of 428-nm lasing remain polarized along the pump. The origin of the puzzled abnormal polarization characteristics is found based on a complete physical model that simultaneously includes the transient photoionization and the subsequent coupling among the electronic, vibrational and rotational quantum states of ions.It suggests that the cascaded resonant Raman processes following ionization create negative coherence between the rotational states of $J$ and $J$+2 in the ionic ground state X$^2Σ_g^+(ν=0)$, which leads to mirror-symmetrical polarization for the P and R branches of 391-nm lasing. Both the experiment and theory indicate that the demonstrated rotational coherence plays an extremely pivotal role in clarifying the gain mechanism of N$_2^+$ lasing and opens up the route toward quantum optics under ultrafast strong fields.

Balanced embedding of degenerating Abelian varieties

For a certain maximal unipotent family of Abelian varieties over the punctured disc, we show that after a base change, one can complete the family over a disc such that the whole degeneration can be simultaneously balanced embedded into a projective space by the theta functions. Then we study the relationship between the balanced filling-in and the Gromov-Hausdorff limit of flat Kähler metrics on the nearby fibers.

High-harmonic and terahertz wave spectroscopy (HATS) for aligned molecules

We present the experimental and theoretical details of our recent published letter [Phys. Rev. Lett. 115. 123002] on synchronized high-harmonic and terahertz-wave spectroscopy (HATS) from nonadiabatically aligned nitrogen molecules in dual-color laser fields. Associating the alignment-angle dependent terahertz wave generation with the synchronizing high-harmonic signal, the angular differential photoionization cross section (PICS) for molecules can be reconstructed, and the minima of the angle on PICS show great convergence between the theoretical predictions and the experimental deduced results. We also show the optimal relative phase between the dual-color laser fields for terahertz wave generation dose not change with the alignment angle at a precision of $50$ attoseconds. This all-optical method provides an alternative for investigating molecular structures and dynamics.

Analysis of interference in attosecond transient absorption in adiabatic condition

We simulate the transient absorption of attosecond pulses of infrared-laser-dressed atoms by considering a three-level system with the adiabatic approximation. The delay-dependent interference features are investigated from the perspective of the coherent interaction processes between the attosecond pulse and the quasi-harmonics. We find that many features of the interference fringes in the absorption spectra of the attosecond pulse can be attributed to the coherence phase difference. However, the modulation signals of laser-induced sidebands of the dark state is found related to the population dynamics of the dark state by the dressing field.

Convergence of the conical Ricci flow on S2 to a soliton

In our previous work [PSSW], we showed that the Ricci flow on S^2 whose initial metric has conical singularities \sum_{j=1}^k β_j[p_j] converges to a constant curvature metric with conic singularities (in the stable and semi-stable cases) or to a gradient shrinking soliton with conical singularities (in the unstable case). The purpose of this note is to show that in the unstable case, that is, the case where β_k>β_k'=\s_{j<k}β_j, that the limiting metric is the unique shrinking soliton with cone singularity β_k[p_\infty]+β_k'[q_\infty]. This verifies the prediction made in [PSSW].

Quasi-projectivity of the moduli space of smooth Kahler-Einstein Fano manifolds

In this note, we prove that there is a canonical continuous Hermitian metric on the CM line bundle over the proper moduli space $\bar{\mathcal{M}}$ of smoothable Kahler-Einstein Fano varieties. The curvature of this metric is the Weil-Petersson current, which exists as a positive (1,1)-current on $\bar{\mathcal{M}}$ and extends the canonical Weil-Petersson current on the moduli space parametrizing smooth Kahler-Einstein Fano manifolds $\mathcal{M}$. As a consequence, we show that the CM line bundle is nef and big on $\bar{\mathcal{M}}$ and its restriction on $\mathcal{M}$ is ample.

Virtualization of Multi-Cell 802.11 Networks: Association and Airtime Control

This paper investigates the virtualization and optimization of a multi-cell WLAN. We consider the station (STA)-access point (AP) association and airtime control for virtualized 802.11 networks to provide service customization and fairness across multiple internet service providers (ISPs) sharing the common physical infrastructure and network capacity. More specifically, an optimization problem is formulated on the STAs transmission probabilities to maximize the overall network throughput, while providing airtime usage guarantees for the ISPs. Subsequently, an algorithm to reach the optimal solution is developed by applying monomial approximation and geometric programming iteratively. Based on the proposed three-dimensional Markov-chain model of the enhanced distributed channel access (EDCA) protocol, the detailed implementation of the optimal transmission probability is also discussed. The accuracy of the proposed Markov-chain model and the performance of the developed association and airtime control scheme are evaluated through numerical results.

The Ricci flow on the sphere with marked points

The Ricci flow on the 2-sphere with marked points is shown to converge in all three stable, semi-stable, and unstable cases. In the stable case, the flow was known to converge without any reparametrization, and a new proof of this fact is given. The semi-stable and unstable cases are new, and it is shown that the flow converges in the Gromov-Hausdorff topology to a limiting metric space which is also a 2-sphere, but with different marked points and hence a different complex structure. The limiting metric space carries a unique conical constant curvature metric in the semi-stable case, and a unique conical shrinking gradient Ricci soliton in the unstable case.

Instantons in G2 manifolds from J-holomorphic curves in coassociative submanifolds

In G2 manifolds, 3-dimensional associative submanifolds (instantons) play a role similar to J-holomorphic curves in symplectic geometry. In [21], instantons in G2 manifolds were constructed from regular J-holomorphic curves in coassociative submanifolds. In this exposition paper, after reviewing the background of G2 geometry, we explain the main ingredients in the proofs in [21]. We also construct new examples of instantons.

Lattice Boltzmann based discrete simulation for gas-solid fluidization

Discrete particle simulation, a combined approach of computational fluid dynamics and discrete methods such as DEM (Discrete Element Method), DSMC (Direct Simulation Monte Carlo), SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics), PIC (Particle-In-Cell), etc., is becoming a practical tool for exploring lab-scale gas-solid systems owing to the fast development of parallel computation. However, gas-solid coupling and the corresponding fluid flow solver remain immature. In this work, we propose a modified lattice Boltzmann approach to consider the effect of both the local solid volume fraction and the local relative velocity between particles and fluid, which is different from the traditional volume-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. A time-driven hard sphere algorithm is combined to simulate the motion of individual particles, in which particles interact with each other via hard-sphere collisions, the collision detection and motion of particles are performed at constant time intervals. The EMMS (energy minimization multi-scale) drag is coupled with the lattice Boltzmann based discrete particle simulation to improve the accuracy. Two typical fluidization processes, namely, a single bubble injection at incipient fluidization and particle clustering in a fast fluidized bed riser, are simulated with this approach, with the results showing a good agreement with published correlations and experimental data. The capability of the approach to capture more detailed and intrinsic characteristics of particle-fluid systems is demonstrated. The method can also be used straightforward with other solid phase solvers.

The greatest Ricci lower bound, conical Einstein metrics and the Chern number inequality

We partially confirm a conjecture of Donaldson relating the greatest Ricci lower bound $R(X)$ to the existence of conical Kahler-Einstein metrics on a Fano manifold $X$. In particular, if $D\in |-K_X|$ is a smooth simple divisor and the Mabuchi $K$-energy is bounded below, then there exists a unique conical Kahler-Einstein metric satisfying $Ric(g) = βg + (1-β) [D]$ for any $β\in (0,1)$. We also construct unique smooth conical toric Kahler-Einstein metrics with $β=R(X)$ and a unique effective Q-divisor $D\in [-K_X]$ for all toric Fano manifolds. Finally we prove a Miyaoka-Yau type inequality for Fano manifolds with $R(X)=1$.

Hilbert-Mumford criterion for nodal curves

We prove by Hilbert-Mumford criterion that a slope stable polarized weighted pointed nodal curve is Chow asymptotic stable. This generalizes the result of Caporaso on stability of polarized nodal curves, and of Hasset on weighted pointed stable curves polarized by the weighted dualizing sheaves. It also solved a question raised by Mumford and Gieseker to prove the Chow asymptotic stability of stable nodal curves by Hilbert-Mumford criterion.

Power and Subcarrier Allocation for Physical-Layer Security in OFDMA-based Broadband Wireless Networks

Providing physical-layer security for mobile users in future broadband wireless networks is of both theoretical and practical importance. In this paper, we formulate an analytical framework for resource allocation in a downlink OFDMA-based broadband network with coexistence of secure users (SU) and normal users (NU). The SU's require secure data transmission at the physical layer while the NU's are served with conventional best-effort data traffic. The problem is formulated as joint power and subcarrier allocation with the objective of maximizing average aggregate information rate of all NU's while maintaining an average secrecy rate for each individual SU under a total transmit power constraint for the base station. We solve this problem in an asymptotically optimal manner using dual decomposition. Our analysis shows that an SU becomes a candidate competing for a subcarrier only if its channel gain on this subcarrier is the largest among all and exceeds the second largest by a certain threshold. Furthermore, while the power allocation for NU's follows the conventional water-filling principle, the power allocation for SU's depends on both its own channel gain and the largest channel gain among others. We also develop a suboptimal algorithm to reduce the computational cost. Numerical studies are conducted to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms in terms of the achievable pair of information rate for NU and secrecy rate for SU at different power consumptions.

Large-Scale DNS of Gas-Solid Flow on Mole-8.5

Direct numerical simulation (DNS) for gas-solid flow is implemented on a multi-scale supercomputing system, Mole-8.5, featuring massive parallel GPU-CPU hybrid computing, for which the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is deployed together with the immersed moving boundary (IMB) method and discrete element method (DEM). A two-dimensional suspension with about 1,166,400 75-micron solid particles distributed in an area of 11.5cm x46cm, and a three-dimensional suspension with 129,024 solid particles in a domain of 0.384cm x1.512cm x0.384cm are fully-resolved below particle scale and distinct multi-scale heterogeneity are observed. Almost 20-fold speedup is achieved on one Nvidia C2050 GPU over one core of Intel E5520 CPU in double precision, and nearly ideal scalability is maintained when using up to 672 GPUs. The simulations demonstrate that LB-IMB-DEM modeling with parallel GPU computing may suggest a promising approach for exploring the fundamental mechanisms and constitutive laws of complex gas-solid flow, which are, so far, poorly understood in both experiments and theoretical studies.
