Brightest GRB flare observed in GRB 221009A: bridge the last gap between flare and prompt emission in GRB

Flares are usually observed during the afterglow phase of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) in soft X-ray, optical and radio bands, but rarely in gamma-ray band. Despite the extraordinary brightness, GECAM-C has accurately measured both the bright prompt emission and flare emission of GRB 221009A without instrumental effects, offering a good opportunity to study the relation between them. In this work, we present a comprehensive analysis of flare emission of GRB 221009A, which is composed of a series of flares. Among them, we identify an exceptionally bright flare with a record-breaking isotropic energy $E_{\rm iso} = 1.82 \times 10^{53}$ erg of GRB flares. It exhibits the highest peak energy ever detected in GRB flares, $E_{\rm peak} \sim 300$ keV, making it a genuine gamma-ray flare. It also shows rapid rise and decay timescales, significantly shorter than those of typical X-ray flares observed in soft X-ray or optical band, but comparable to those observed in prompt emissions. Despite these exceptional properties, the flare shares several common properties with typical GRB flares. We note that this is the first observation of a GRB flare in the keV-MeV band with sufficiently high temporal resolution and high statistics, which bridges the last gap between prompt emission and flare.

Discovery of oscillations above 200 keV in a black hole X-ray binary with Insight-HXMT

Low-frequency quasi-periodic oscillations (LFQPOs) are commonly found in black hole X-ray binaries, and their origin is still under debate. The properties of LFQPOs at high energies (above 30 keV) are closely related to the nature of the accretion flow in the innermost regions, and thus play a crucial role in critically testing various theoretical models. The Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (Insight-HXMT) is capable of detecting emissions above 30 keV, and is therefore an ideal instrument to do so. Here we report the discovery of LFQPOs above 200 keV in the new black hole MAXI J1820+070 in the X-ray hard state, which allows us to understand the behaviours of LFQPOs at hundreds of kiloelectronvolts. The phase lag of the LFQPO is constant around zero below 30 keV, and becomes a soft lag (that is, the high-energy photons arrive first) above 30 keV. The soft lag gradually increases with energy and reaches ~0.9s in the 150-200 keV band. The detection at energies above 200 keV, the large soft lag and the energy-related behaviors of the LFQPO pose a great challenge for most currently existing models, but suggest that the LFQPO probably originates from the precession of a small-scale jet.

The Background Model of the Medium Energy X-ray telescope of Insight-HXMT

The Medium Energy X-ray Telescope (ME) is one of the main payloads of the Hard X-ray Modulation Telescope (dubbed as Insight-HXMT). The background of Insight-HXMT/ME is mainly caused by the environmental charged particles and the background intensity is modulated remarkably by the geomagnetic field, as well as the geographical location. At the same geographical location, the background spectral shape is stable but the intensity varies with the level of the environmental charged particles. In this paper, we develop a model to estimate the ME background based on the ME database that is established with the two-year blank sky observations of the high Galactic latitude. In this model, the entire geographical area covered by Insight-HXMT is divided into grids of $5^{\circ}\times5^{\circ}$ in geographical coordinate system. For each grid, the background spectral shape can be obtained from the background database and the intensity can be corrected by the contemporary count rate of the blind FOV detectors. Thus the background spectrum can be obtained by accumulating the background of all the grids passed by Insight-HXMT during the effective observational time. The model test with the blank sky observations shows that the systematic error of the background estimation in $8.9-44.0$ keV is $\sim1.3\%$ for a pointing observation with an average exposure $\sim5.5$ ks. We also find that the systematic error is anti-correlated with the exposure, which indicates the systematic error is partly contributed by the statistical error of count rate measured by the blind FOV detectors.

Entanglement dynamics of electrons and photons

Entanglement is a fundamental feature of quantum theory as well as a key resource for quantum computing and quantum communication, but the entanglement mechanism has not been found at present. We think when the two subsystems exist interaction directly or indirectly, they can be in entanglement state. such as, in the Jaynes-Cummings model, the entanglement between an atom and light field comes from their interaction. In this paper, we have studied the entanglement mechanism of electron-electron and photon-photon, which are from the spin-spin interaction. We found their total entanglement states are relevant both space state and spin state. When two electrons or two photons are far away, their entanglement states should be disappeared even if their spin state is entangled.

Two-dimensional function photonic crystals

In this paper, we have firstly proposed two-dimensional function photonic crystals, which the dielectric constants of medium columns are the functions of space coordinates $\vec{r}$, it is different from the two-dimensional conventional photonic crystals constituting by the medium columns of dielectric constants are constants. We find the band gaps of two-dimensional function photonic crystals are different from the two-dimensional conventional photonic crystals, and when the functions form of dielectric constants are different, the band gaps structure should be changed, which can be designed into the appropriate band gaps structures by the two-dimensional function photonic crystals.

In this paper, we have proposed the compound structure of one-dimensional photonic crystal (PC), which includes series connection and parallel connection PC. We have studied the transmission characteristics of series connection and parallel connection PC, and obtained some new results. In addition, we have proved the series connection one-dimensional PC can realize the logical AND operation, and the parallel connection one-dimensional PC can realize the logical OR operation. The compound structure of one-dimensional PC can design more new type structure optical devices, and will provide the basic for designing quantum computer.

Quantum effect of one-dimensional photonic crystal

In this paper, we have studied the quantum transmission characteristics of one-dimensional photonic crystal with and without defect layer by the quantum theory approach, and compared the calculation results of classical with quantum theory. We have found some new quantum effects in the one-dimensional photonic crystal. When the incident angle $θ=0$, there is no quantum effect. When the incident angle $θ\neq0$, we find there are obvious quantum effect with the incident angle increase. At the incident angle $θ\neq0$, there are also quantum effect with the change of thickness and refractive indexes of medium $B$ or $A$. We think the new quantum effect of photonic crystal shall help us to design optical devices.

Quantum entanglement degrees amplifier

The quantum entangled degrees of entangled states become smaller with the transmission distance increasing, how to keep the purity of quantum entangled states is the puzzle in quantum communication. In the paper, we have designed a new type entanglement degrees amplifier by one-dimensional photonic crystal, which is similar as the relay station of classical electromagnetic communication. We find when the entangled states of two-photon and three-photon pass through photonic crystal, their entanglement degrees can be magnified, which make the entanglement states can be long range propagation and the quantum communication can be really realized.

The design of optical triode

Under the action of pump light, the conventional photonic crystal can be turned into function photonic crystal. In the paper, we have designed optical triode with one-dimensional function photonic crystal, and analyzed the effect of period number, medium thickness and refractive index, incident angle, the irradiation way and intensity of pump light on the optical triode magnification. We obtain some valuable results, which shall help to optimal design optical triode.

Variable frequency photonic crystals

In this paper, we have firstly proposed a new one-dimensional variable frequency photonic crystals (VFPCs), and calculated the transmissivity and the electronic field distribution of VFPCs with and without defect layer, and considered the effect of defect layer and variable frequency function on the transmissivity and the electronic field distribution. We have obtained some new characteristics for the VFPCs, which should be help to design a new type optical devices.

Three-electron spin states and entanglement states

In this paper, we have given the symmetrical and antisymmetrical spin and space wave functions of three-electron, and further given the full total entanglement states for the three-electron, which are related to their space and spin wave function. When we study particles entanglement we not only consider their spin entanglement and also consider their space entanglement. Otherwise, we find that electrons entanglement are restricted to the teeny range, when electrons exceed the space range, their entanglement should be broken down even disappearance, which is accordance with the experiments results.

Full Quantum Theory of ${C_{60}}$ Double-slit Diffraction

In this paper, we apply the full new method of quantum theory to study the double-slit diffraction of ${C_{60}}$ molecules. We calculate the double-slit wave functions of ${C_{60}}$ molecules by Schrödinger equation, and calculate the diffraction wave function behind the slits with the Feynman path integral quantum theory, and then give the relation between the diffraction intensity of double-slit and diffraction pattern position. We compare the calculation results with two different double-slit diffraction experiments. When the decoherence effects are considered, the calculation results are in good agreement with the two experimental data.

Quantum theory of light double-slit diffraction

In this paper, we study the light double-slit diffraction experiment with quantum theory approach. Firstly, we calculate the light wave function in slits by quantum theory of photon. Secondly, we calculate the diffraction wave function with Kirchhoff's law. Thirdly, we give the diffraction intensity of light double-slit diffraction, which is proportional to the square of diffraction wave function. Finally, we compare calculation result of quantum theory and classical electromagnetic theory with the experimental data. We find the quantum calculate result is accordance with the experiment data, and the classical calculation result with certain deviation. So, the quantum theory is more accurately approach for studying light diffraction.

Quantum theory of photonic crystals

In this paper, we have firstly presented a new quantum theory to study one-dimensional photonic crystals. We give the quantum transform matrix, quantum dispersion relation and quantum transmissivity, and compare them with the classical dispersion relation and classical transmissivity. By the calculation, we find the classical and quantum dispersion relation and transmissivity are identical. The new approach can be studied two-dimensional and three-dimensional photonic crystals.

A study on quantum mechanical approach for $C_{60}$ diffraction analysis

Diffraction phenomena of large molecules have been studied in many experiments, and these experiments are described by many theoretical works. In this paper, we study $C_{60}$ molecules single and double-slit diffraction with quantum theory approach, and we pay close attention to the $C_{60}$ diffraction experiment carried out by A.Zeilinger et.at in 1999. In double-slit diffraction, we consider the decoherence effect, and find the theoretical results are good agreement with experimental data.

An optical diode and magnifier from a general function photonic crystals

We have presented a new general function photonic crystals (GFPCs), which refractive index is a function of space position. Based on Fermat principle, we achieve the motion equations of light in one-dimensional general function photonic crystals, and calculate its transfer matrix. In this paper, we choose the line refractive index function for two mediums $A$ and $B$, and obtain new results: (1) when the line function of refractive indexes is up or down, the transmissivity can be far larger or smaller than 1. (2) when the refractive indexes function increase or decrease at the direction of incident light, the light intensity should be magnified or weaken, which can be made light magnifier or attenuator. (3) The GFPCs can also be made optical diode. The new general function photonic crystals can be applied to design more optical instruments.

Function Photonic Crystals

In the paper, we present a new kind of function photonic crystals, which refractive index is a function of space position. Unlike conventional PCs, which structure grow from two materials, A and B, with different dielectric constants $ε_{A}$ and $ε_{B}$. By Fermat principle, we give the motion equations of light in one-dimensional, two-dimensional and three-dimensional function photonic crystals. For one-dimensional function photonic crystals, we study the dispersion relation, band gap structure and transmissivity, and compare them with conventional photonic crystals. By choosing various refractive index distribution function $n(z)$, we can obtain more width or more narrow band gap structure than conventional photonic crystals.

Schrödinger equation of general potential

It is well known that the Schrödinger equation is only suitable for the particle in common potential $V(\vec{r},t)$. In this paper, a general Quantum Mechanics is proposed, where the Lagrangian is the general form. The new quantum wave equation can describe the particle which is in general potential $V(\vec{r}, \dot{\vec{r}}, t)$. We think these new quantum wave equations can be applied in many fields.

Transmission Character of General Function Photonic Crystals

In the paper, we present a new general function photonic crystals (GFPCs), which refractive index of medium is a arbitrary function of space position. Unlike conventional photonic crystals (PCs), which structure grow from two mediums $A$ and $B$, with different constant refractive indexes $n_{a}$ and $n_{b}$. Based on Fermat principle, we give the motion equations of light in one-dimensional GFPCs, and calculate its transfer matrix, which is different from the conventional PCs. We choose the linearity refractive index function for two mediums $A$ and $B$, and find the transmissivity of one-dimensional GFPCs can be much larger or smaller than 1 for different slope linearity refractive index function, which is different from the transmissivity of conventional PCs (its transmissivity is in the range of 0 and 1). Otherwise, we study the effect of different incident angles, the number of periods and optical thickness on the transmissivity, and obtain some new results different from the conventional PCs.

Non-factorization contributions in $D\rightarrow πK, KK$ decay

We have analyzed the $D\rightarrow πK, KK$ decay with the naive factorization (NF), QCD factorization (QCDF)and QCD factorization including soft-gluon exchanges (QCDF+SGE). In these decay channels, the soft-gluon effects are firstly calculated with light cone QCD sum rules. Comparing the three kind approaches, we can find the calculation results have made much more improved QCD factorization (QCDF) than the naive factorization (NF), and the calculation results have also made improved QCD factorization including soft-gluon exchanges (QCDF+SGE) than the QCD factorization (QCDF) in the color-suppressed decay channels. In addition, we find the soft-gluon effects are larger than the leading order contributions, and the calculation results are close to the experimental data for the color-suppressed decay channels. In color-allowed decay channel $D^{0}\rightarrow π^{+} K^{-}$, the soft-gluon effects are small and we should consider other power terms, such as final state interaction and annihilation effects.

Quantum theory of light diffraction

At present, the theory of light diffraction only has the simple wave-optical approach. In this paper, we study light diffraction with the approach of relativistic quantum theory. We find that the slit length, slit width, slit thickness and wave-length of light have affected to the diffraction intensity and form of diffraction pattern. However, the effect of slit thickness on the diffraction pattern can not be explained by wave-optical approach, and it can be explained in quantum theory. We compare the theoretical results with single and multiple slits experiment data, and find the theoretical results are accordance with the experiment data. Otherwise, we give some theory prediction. We think all the new prediction will be tested by the light diffraction experiment.

Special Theory for Superluminal Particle

The OPERA collaboration reported evidence for muonic neutrinos travelling faster than light in vacuum. In this paper, an extended relativity theory is proposed. We think all particles can be divided into three kinds: The first kind of particle is its velocity in the range of $0\leq v < c$, e.g. electron, atom, molecule and so on ($c$ is light velocity, i.e., the limit velocity of the first kind of particle). The second kind of particle is its velocity in the range of $0\leq v < c_{m1}$, e.g. photon ($c_{m1}$ is the limit velocity of the second kind of particle). The third kind of particle is its velocity in the range of $c\leq v < c_{m2}$, e.g. tachyon, and muonic neutrinos ($c_{m2}$ is the limit velocity of the third kind of particle). The first kind of particle is described by the special relativity. With the extended relativity theory, we can describe the second and third kinds particles, and can analysis the OPERA experiment results and calculate the muonic neutrinos mass.

Extending Special Relativity to Superluminal Motion

Experiments done with single photon in the early 1990's produced a surprising result: that single photon pass through a photon tunnel barrier with a group velocity faster than the vacuum speed of light. Recently, a series of experiments revealed that electromagnetic wave was able to travel at a group velocity faster than $c$. These phenomena have been observed in dispersive media. We think all particles can be divided into three kinds in nature: The first kind of particle is its velocity in the range of $0\leq v < c$, e.g. electron, atom and so on. The second kind of particle is its velocity in the range of $0\leq v < c_{m}$, e.g. photon. The third kind of particle is its velocity in the range of $c\leq v < c_{m}$ ($c_{m}$ is the maximum velocity in universe), e.g. tachyon. The first kind of particle is described by the special relativity. In this paper, we give some new kinematic and dynamic equations to describe the second and third kinds particles.
