Transition Form-Factor for $η_Q$ at NNLO in the strong coupling $α_s$ and with all-order $v^2$ resummation

In this work, we discuss both relativistic and perturbative QCD corrections to the transition form-factor ${\cal F}_{η_Q}{(t_1,t_2)}$ for the process $γ^*(q_1) γ^*(q_2) \leftrightarrow η_Q(P)$ with dependencies on the normalised photon virtualities $t_1=q_1^2/m_Q^2$ and $t_2=q_2^2/m_Q^2$, where $m_Q$ is the heavy quark mass. We resum a class of relativistic corrections to all orders in the relativistic parameter $\langle v^2 \rangle_{η_Q}$. In addition, we include perturbative QCD corrections up to Next-to-Next-to-Leading Order (NNLO) in the strong coupling constant $α_s$. This involves the computation of two-loop amplitudes with two off-shell photons. We explore three different phenomenological applications of our transition form-factors for the charmonium case. We first study the ratio $\vert {\cal F}_{η_c}{(t_1,0)} \vert/ \vert {\cal F}_{η_c}{(0,0)} \vert$ for the single space-like photon case and compare our results with the existing $η_c$ measurements from the BaBar collaboration. Secondly, we consider observables for the case of double space-like photons and discuss the impact of the different corrections. The NNLO corrections for this case are presented here for the first time in the literature. Finally, we revisit the decay width $Γ[η_c \rightarrow γγ]$ and compare it with the existing PDG value.

Exclusive emissions of polarized $ρ$ mesons at the EIC and the proton content at low $x$

We present a new study on helicity amplitudes and cross sections for the exclusive production of $ρ$ mesons at the EIC in high-energy factorization. In this framework the analytic expression of amplitudes takes the form of a convolution between an off-shell impact factor, depicting the ($γ^* \to ρ$) transition, and a nonperturbative density, known as Unintegrated Gluon Distribution (UGD) that encodes information about the proton structure at low $x$ and evolves according to the BFKL equation. We come out with an evidence that observables sensitive to the polarizations of the incoming virtual photon and of the emitted meson allow us to discriminate among different UGD models and to gather quantitative information on the proton content at high energies.

Hadron structure at small-x via unintegrated gluon densities

Inclusive as well as exclusive emissions in forward and central directions of rapidity are widely recognized as excellent channels to access the proton structure at small-x. In this regime, to describe nucleons structure, it is necessary to use kT-unintegrated distributions. In particular, at large transverse momenta, the x-evolution of the so-called unintegrated gluon distribution is driven by the Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov equation, within the framework of the high-energy factorization (HEF). Recent analyses on the diffractive electroproduction of ρmesons have corroborated the underlying assumption that the small-size dipole scattering mechanism is at work, thus validating the use of the HEF formalism. Nonetheless, a significant sensitivity of polarized cross sections to intermediate values of the meson transverse momenta, where, in the case of inclusive emissions, a description at the hand of the transverse momentum dependent (TMD) factorization starts to be the most appropriate framework, has been observed. In this work, we will review the formal description of the UGD within the BFKL approach and present some UGD models that have been proposed, then we will describe the state of the art of some recent phenomenological analyses.

Central exclusive production of scalar and pseudoscalar charmonia in the light-front $k_T$-factorization approach

We study exclusive production of scalar $χ_{c0}\equiv χ_c(0^{++})$ and pseudoscalar $η_c$ charmonia states in proton-proton collisions at the LHC energies. The amplitudes for $gg \to χ_{c0}$ as well as for $gg \to η_c$ mechanisms are derived in the $k_{T}$-factorization approach. The $p p \to p p η_c$ reaction is discussed for the first time. We have calculated rapidity, transverse momentum distributions as well as such correlation observables as the distribution in relative azimuthal angle and $(t_1,t_2)$ distributions. The latter two observables are very different for $χ_{c0}$ and $η_c$ cases. In contrast to the inclusive production of these mesons considered very recently in the literature, in the exclusive case the cross section for $η_c$ is much lower than that for $χ_{c0}$ which is due to a special interplay of the corresponding vertices and off-diagonal UGDFs used to calculate the cross sections. We present the numerical results for the key observables in the framework of potential models for the light-front quarkonia wave functions. We also discuss how different are the absorptive corrections for both considered cases.

Centrality dependence of dilepton production via $γγ$ processes from Wigner distributions of photons in nuclei

We propose a new complete method, based on the Wigner distributions of photons, how to calculate differential distributions of dileptons created via photon-photon fusion in semicentral ($b<2R_A$) $AA$ collisions. The formalism is used to calculate different distributions of invariant mass, dilepton transverse momentum and acoplanarity for different regions of centrality. The results of calculation are compared with recent STAR, ALICE and ATLAS experimental data. Very good agreement with the data is achieved without free parameters and without including additional mechanisms such as a possible rescattering of leptons in the quark-gluon plasma.

Hadroproduction of scalar $P$-wave quarkonia in the light-front $k_T$-factorization approach

In this work, we present a thorough analysis of scalar $P$-wave $χ_{Q0}$, $Q=c,b$ quarkonia electromagnetic form factors for the $γ^* γ^* \to χ_{Q0}$ couplings, as well as their hadroproduction observables in $k_\perp$-factorisation using the light-front potential approach for the quarkonium wave function. The electromagnetic form factors are presented as functions of photon virtualities. We discuss the role of the Melosh spin-rotation and relativistic corrections estimated by comparing our results with those in the standard nonrelativistic QCD (NRQCD) approach. Theoretical uncertainties of our approach are found by performing the analysis with two different unintegrated gluon densities and with five distinct models of the $Q\bar Q$ interaction potentials consistent with the meson spectra. The results for the rapidity and transverse momentum distributions of $χ_{Q0}$ produced in high-energy $pp$ collisions at $\sqrt{s} = 13 \, \rm{TeV}$ are shown.

Prompt hadroproduction of $η_c(1S,2S)$ in the $k_T$-factorization approach

In this work, we present a thorough analysis of $η_c(1S,2S)$ quarkonia hadroproduction in $k_\perp$-factorisation in the framework of the light-front potential approach for the quarkonium wave function. The off-shell matrix elements for the $g^* g^* η_c(1S,2S)$ vertices are derived. We discuss the importance of taking into account the gluon virtualities. %We discuss the role of relativistic corrections, the Melosh spin-rotation and theoretical uncertainties by comparing our results with the standard NRQCD approach. We present the transverse momentum distributions of $η_c$ for several models of the unintegrated gluon distributions. Our calculations are performed for four distinct parameterisations for the $c\bar c$ interaction potential consistent with the meson spectra. We compare our results for $η_c(1S)$ to measurements by the LHCb collaboration and present predictions for $η_c(2S)$ production.

Semiexclusive production of vector mesons in proton-proton collisions with electromagnetic dissociation

We calculate distributions of different vector mesons in purely exclusive ($p p \to p p V$) and semi-exclusive ($p p \to p X V$) processes with electromagnetic dissociation of a proton. The cross section for the electromagnetic dissociation is expressed through electromagnetic structure functions of the proton. We include the transverse momentum distribution of initial photons in the associated flux. Contributions of the exclusive and semi-exclusive processes are compared for different vector mesons ($V = ϕ, J/ψ, Υ$). We discuss how the relative contribution of the semi-exclusive processes depends on the mass of the vector meson as well as on different kinematical variables of the vector meson ($y$, $p_t$). The ratio of semi-exclusive to exclusive contributions are shown and compared for different mesons in different variables.

Drell-Yan production at forward rapidities: a hybrid factorization approach

We discuss the Drell-Yan production of dileptons at high energies in the forward rapidity region of proton-proton collisions in a hybrid high-energy approach. This approach uses unintegrated gluon distributions in one proton and collinear quark/antiquark distributions in the second proton. We compute various distributions for the case of low-mass dilepton production and compare to the LHCb and ATLAS experimental data on dilepton mass distributions. In distinction to dipole approaches, we include four Drell-Yan structure functions as well as cuts at the level of lepton kinematics. The impact of the interference structure functions is rather small for typical experimental cuts. We find that both side contributions ($g q/\bar q$ and $q/\bar q g$) have to be included even for the LHCb rapidity coverage which is in contradiction with what is usually done in the dipole approach. We present results for different unintegrated gluon distributions from the literature. Some of them include saturation effects, but we see no clear hints of saturation even at small $M_{ll}$.

Low mass Drell-Yan production of lepton pairs at forward directions at the LHC: a hybrid approach

We discuss Drell-Yan production of dileptons at high energies in forward rapidity region in a hybrid high-energy approach. This approach uses unintegrated gluon distributions in one proton and collinear quark/antiquark distributions in the second proton. Corresponding momentum-space formula for the differential cross sections in high-energy approximation has been derived and will be presented. The relation to the commonly used dipole approach is discussed. We conclude and illustrate that some results of the dipole approaches are too approximate, as far as kinematics is considered, and in fact cannot be used when comparing with real experimental data. We find that the dipole formula is valid only in very forward/backward rapidity regions ($|y| >$ 5) that cannot be studied experimentally in the moment. We performed calculations of some differential cross sections for low-mass dilepton production by the LHCb and ATLAS collaborations. In distinction to most of dipole approaches, we include all of the four Drell-Yan structure functions, although the impact of interference structure functions is rather small for the relevant experimental cuts. We find that both side contributions ($g + q/\bar q$ and $q/\bar q + g$) have to be included even for the LHCb rapidity coverage which is in contradiction with what is usually done in the dipole approach. We present results for different unintegrated gluon distributions from the literature (some of them include saturation effects). We see no clear hints of saturation even at small $M_{ll}$ when comparing with the LHCb data.

Photoproduction of $J/ψ$ and $Υ$ states in exclusive and proton-dissociative diffractive events

The amplitude for $γp \to V p$, where $V$ is a $J/ψ$ or $Υ$ ground state or excited vector meson, is calculated in a pQCD $k_{T}$-factorization approach. We use this amplitude to predict the cross section for exclusive photoproduction of $J/ψ, ψ', Υ$ mesons in proton-proton collisions. Calculations are performed for a variety of unintegrated gluon distributions, and we compare our results to LHCb data. Here we especially focus on the possibilty of constraining saturation effects. Compared to earlier calculations we include both Dirac and Pauli electromagnetic form factors. We discuss the role of the $Q\bar Q$ light-cone wave functions for differential distributions for ratios such as $σ(ψ')/σ(J/ψ)$. Absorption effects are always taken into account. We also discuss the related diffractive production in proton dissociative events. Here we concentrate on electromagnetic dissociation , which is calculable without additional free parameters. Besides being of interest in their own right, dissociative events constitute an important experimental background to exclusive production.

Central $μ^{+}μ^{-}$ production via photon-photon fusion in proton-proton collisions with proton dissociation

We present a formalism which uses fluxes of equivalent photons including transverse momenta of the intermediate photons. The formalism reminds the familiar $k_t$-factorization approach used, e.g., to study the two-photon production of $c\bar{c}$ or $b\bar{b}$ pairs. The results of the new method are compared with those obtained using the code LPAIR, and a good agreement is obtained. The inclusion of the photon transverse momenta is necessary in studies of correlation observables. We present distributions for the dimuon invariant mass, transverse momentum of the muon pair and relative azimuthal angle between muons separately for elastic-elastic, elastic-inelastic, inelastic-elastic and inelastic-inelastic mechanisms. For typical experimental cuts all mechanisms give similar contributions. The results are shown for different sets of cuts relevant for the LHC experiments. The cross sections in different regions of phase space depend on $F_2$ structure function in different regions of $x$ and $Q^2$. A comment on $F_2$ is made.

Exclusive photoproduction of charmonia in $γp \to V p$ and $p p \to p V p$ reactions within $k_t$-factorization approach

The amplitude for $γp \to J/ψp$ ($γp \to ψ' p$) is calculated in a pQCD $k_{T}$-factorization approach. The total cross section for this process is calculated for different unintegrated gluon distributions and compared with the HERA data and the data extracted recently by the LHCb collaboration. The amplitude for $γp \to J/ψp$ ($γp \to ψ' p$) is used to predict the cross section for exclusive photoproduction of $J/ψ$ ($ψ'$) meson in proton-proton collisions. Compared to earlier calculations we include both Dirac and Pauli electromagnetic form factors. The effect of Pauli form factor is quantified. Absorption effects are taken into account and their role is discussed in detail. Different differential distributions e.g. in $J/ψ$ ($ψ'$) rapidity and transverse momentum are presented and compared with existing experimental data. The UGDF with nonlinear effects built in better describe recent experimental data of the LHCb collaboration but no definite conclusion on onset of saturation can be drawn. We present our results also for the Tevatron. A good agreement with the CDF experimental data points at the midrapidity for both $J/ψ$ and $ψ'$ is achieved.

Production of two $c \bar c$ pairs in gluon-gluon scattering in high energy proton-proton collisions

We calculate cross sections for $g g \to Q \bar Q Q \bar Q$ in the high-energy approximation in the mixed (longitudinal momentum fraction, impact parameter) and momentum space representations. Besides the total cross section as a function of subsystem energy also differential distributions (in quark rapidity, transverse momentum, $Q Q$, $Q \bar Q$ invariant mass) are presented. The elementary cross section is used to calculate production of $(c \bar c) (c \bar c)$ in single-parton scattering (SPS) in proton-proton collisions. We present integrated cross section as a function of proton-proton center of mass energy as well as differential distribution in $M_{(c \bar c)(c \bar c)}$. The results are compared with corresponding results for double-parton scattering (DPS) discussed recently in the literature. We find that the considered SPS contribution to $(c \bar c)(c \bar c)$ production is at high energy ($\sqrt{s} >$ 5 TeV) much smaller than that for DPS contribution.

The $γγ\to J/ψJ/ψ$ reaction and the $J/ψJ/ψ$ pair production in exclusive ultraperipheral ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions

We calculate the cross section for the $γγ\to J/ψJ/ψ$ process. Two mechanisms are considered: box (two-loop) diagrams of the order of $O(α_{em}^2 α_s^2)$ and two-gluon exchange of the order of $O(α_{em}^2 α_s^4)$. The first mechanism is calculated in the heavy-quark non-relativistic approximation while the second case we also include the effects of quantum motion of quarks in the bound state. The box contribution dominates at energies close to the threshold ($W <$ 15 GeV) while the two-gluon mechanism takes over at $W >$ 15 GeV. Including the bound-state wave function effects for the two-gluon exchange mechanism gives a cross section 0.1 - 0.4 pb, substantially smaller than that in the non-relativistic limit (0.4 - 1.6 pb). We also find a strong infrared sensitivity which manifests itself in a rather strong dependence on the mass for the $t$-channel gluons. The elementary cross section is then used in the Equivalent Photon Approximation (EPA) in the impact parameter space to calculate the cross section for $^{208}Pb+^{208}Pb \to ^{208}Pb + J/ψJ/ψ+ ^{208}Pb$ reaction. Distributions in rapidity of the $J/ψJ/ψ$ pair and invariant mass of the pair are shown.

Exclusive production of $ω$ meson in proton-proton collisions at high energies

First we calculate cross section for the $γp \to ωp$ reaction from the threshold to very large energies. At low energies the pion exchange is the dominant mechanism. At large energies the experimental cross section can be well described within the $k_{t}$-factorization approach by adjusting light-quark constituent mass. Next we calculate differential distributions for the $p p \to p p ω$ reaction at RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies for the first time in the literature. We consider photon-pomeron (pomeron-photon), photon-pion (pion-photon) as well as diffractive hadronic bremsstrahlung mechanisms. The latter are included in the meson/reggeon exchange picture with parameters fixed from the known phenomenology. Interesting rapidity distributions are predicted. The hadronic bremsstrahlung contributions dominate at large (forward, backward) rapidities. At small energies the photon-pomeron contribution is negligible compared to the bremsstrahlung contributions. It could be, however, easily identified at large energies at midrapidities. Absorptions effects are included and discussed. Our predictions are ready for verification at RHIC and LHC.

Exclusive production of vector mesons in $γp$ and $p p$ collisions

The dominant mechanism for the central exclusive production of vector meson in $p p$ and $p \bar p$ collisions is the $γ$ $I P$ fusion. As a building block for the pp reaction, the amplitude for photoproduction $ γp \to V p $ is calculated in a pQCD $k_{T}$- factorization approach. We will present results for several vector mesons: $ρ$, $ω$, $ϕ$, $J/Ψ$ and $Υ$. The total cross section for diffractive mesons production as a function of energy and photon virtuality is calculated. We will present dependence on the mass of the quark for light mesons. The results for $ γp \to V p $ photoproduction depend on the model of the meson wave function. We compare our results with a HERA data for photon-proton collisions. Finally we turn to pp collisions, and we present distribution in rapidity, transverse momentum of vector mesons and azimuthal angle between outgoing protons for Tevatron and LHC energies. The absorption effects will be discussed.

Exclusive photoproduction of $ϕ$ meson in $γp \to ϕp$ and $p p \to p ϕp$ reactions

The amplitude for $γp \to ϕp$ is calculated in a pQCD $k_{T}$ - factorization approach. The total cross section for this process is compared with HERA data. Total cross section, as a function of photon-proton energy and photon virtuality, is calculated. We also discuss the ratio of $σ_{L}$ / $σ_{T}$ and the dependence on the mass of the strange quark. The amplitude for $γp \to ϕp$ is used to predict the cross section for exclusive photoproduction of $ϕ$ meson in proton-proton collisions. Absorption effects are included. The results for RHIC, Tevatron and LHC energies are presented.

Unprecedented High Long Term Frequency Stability with a Macroscopic Resonator Oscillator

This article reports on the long-term frequency stabilty characterisation of a new type of cryogenic sapphire oscillator using an autonomous pulse-tube cryocooler as its cold source. This new design enables a relative frequency stability of better than 4.5e-15 over one day of integration. This represents to our knowledge the best long-term frequency stability ever obtained with a signal source based on a macroscopic resonator.

Relativistic Massive Vector Condensation

At sufficiently high chemical potential massive relativistic spin one fields condense. This phenomenon leads to the spontaneous breaking of rotational invariance while linking it to the breaking of internal symmetries. We study the relevant features of the phase transition and the properties of the generated Goldstone excitations. The interplay between the internal symmetry of the vector fields and their Lorentz properties is studied. We predict that new phases set in when vectors condense in Quantum Chromodynamics like theories.
