Further $q$-supercongruences from a transformation of Rahman

Employing a quadratic transformation formula of Rahman and the method of `creative microscoping' (introduced by the author and Zudilin in 2019), we provide some new $q$-supercongruences for truncated basic hypergeometric series. In particular, we confirm two recent conjectures of Liu and Wang. We also propose some related conjectures on supercongruences and $q$-supercongruences.

Some $q$-supercongruences modulo the square and cube of a cyclotomic polynomial

Two $q$-supercongruences of truncated basic hypergeometric series containing two free parameters are established by employing specific identities for basic hypergeometric series. The results partly extend two $q$-supercongruences that were earlier conjectured by the same authors and involve $q$-supercongruences modulo the square and the cube of a cyclotomic polynomial. One of the newly proved $q$-supercongruences is even conjectured to hold modulo the fourth power of a cyclotomic polynomial.

A family of $q$-congruences modulo the square of a cyclotomic polynomial

Using Watson's terminating $_8ϕ_7$ transformation formula, we prove a family of $q$-congruences modulo the square of a cyclotomic polynomial, which were originally conjectured by the author and Zudilin [J. Math. Anal. Appl. 475 (2019), 1636--646]. As an application, we deduce two supercongruences modulo $p^4$ ($p$ is an odd prime) and their $q$-analogues. This also partially confirms a special case of Swisher's (H.3) conjecture.

Some $q$-supercongruences from transformation formulas for basic hypergeometric series

Several new $q$-supercongruences are obtained using transformation formulas for basic hypergeometric series, together with various techniques such as suitably combining terms, and creative microscoping, a method recently developed by the first author in collaboration with Wadim Zudilin. More concretely, the results in this paper include $q$-analogues of supercongruences (referring to $p$-adic identities remaining valid for some higher power of $p$) established by Long, by Long and Ramakrishna, and several other $q$-supercongruences. The six basic hypergeometric transformation formulas which are made use of are Watson's transformation, a quadratic transformation of Rahman, a cubic transformation of Gasper and Rahman, a quartic transformation of Gasper and Rahman, a double series transformation of Ismail, Rahman and Suslov, and a new transformation formula for a nonterminating very-well-poised ${}_{12}ϕ_{11}$ series. Also, the nonterminating $q$-Dixon summation formula is used. A special case of the new ${}_{12}ϕ_{11}$ transformation formula is further utilized to obtain a generalization of Rogers' linearization formula for the continuous $q$-ultraspherical polynomials.

Some variations of a "divergent" Ramanujan-type $q$-supercongruence

Using the $q$-Wilf--Zeilberger method and a $q$-analogue of a "divergent" Ramanujan-type supercongruence, we give several $q$-supercongruences modulo the fourth power of a cyclotomic polynomial. One of them is a $q$-analogue of a supercongruence recently proved by Wang: for any prime $p>3$, $$ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1} (3k-1)\frac{(\frac{1}{2})_k (-\frac{1}{2})_k^2 }{k!^3}4^k\equiv p-2p^3 \pmod{p^4}, $$ where $(a)_k=a(a+1)\cdots (a+k-1)$ is the Pochhammer symbol.

A common $q$-analogue of two supercongruences

We give a $q$-congruence whose specializations $q=-1$ and $q=1$ correspond to supercongruences (B.2) and (H.2) on Van Hamme's 1997 list: $$ \sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}(-1)^k(4k+1)A_k\equiv p(-1)^{(p-1)/2}\pmod{p^3} \quad\text{and}\quad \sum_{k=0}^{(p-1)/2}A_k\equiv a(p)\pmod{p^2}, $$ where $p>2$ is prime, $$ A_k=\prod_{j=0}^{k-1}\biggl(\frac{1/2+j}{1+j}\biggr)^3=\frac1{2^{6k}}{\binom{2k}k}^3 \quad\text{for}\ k=0,1,2,\dots, $$ and $a(p)$ is the $p$-th coefficient of (the weight 3 modular form) $q\prod_{j=1}^\infty(1-q^{4j})^6$. We complement our result with a general common $q$-congruence for related hypergeometric sums.

Proof of a basic hypergeometric supercongruence modulo the fifth power of a cyclotomic polynomial

By means of the $q$-Zeilberger algorithm, we prove a basic hypergeometric supercongruence modulo the fifth power of the cyclotomic polynomial $Φ_n(q)$. This result appears to be quite unique, as in the existing literature so far no basic hypergeometric supercongruences modulo a power greater than the fourth of a cyclotomic polynomial have been proved. We also establish a couple of related results, including a parametric supercongruence.

Proof of a recent conjecture of Z.-W. Sun

The polynomials $d_n(x)$ are defined by \begin{align*} d_n(x) &= \sum_{k=0}^n{n\choose k}{x\choose k}2^k. \end{align*} We prove that, for any prime $p$, the following congruences hold modulo $p$: \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{2k\choose k}{4^k} d_k\left(-\frac{1}{4}\right)^2 &\equiv \begin{cases} 2(-1)^{\frac{p-1}{4}}x,&\text{if $p=x^2+y^2$ with $x\equiv 1\pmod{4}$,} 0,&\text{if $p\equiv 3\pmod{4}$,} \end{cases} [5pt] \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{2k\choose k}{4^k} d_k\left(-\frac{1}{6}\right)^2 &\equiv 0, \quad\text{if $p>3$,} [5pt] \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{2k\choose k}{4^k} d_k\left(\frac{1}{4}\right)^2 &\equiv \begin{cases} 0,&\text{if $p\equiv 1\pmod{4}$,} (-1)^{\frac{p+1}{4}}{\frac{p-1}{2}\choose \frac{p-3}{4}},&\text{if $p\equiv 3\pmod{4}$.} \end{cases} \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{2k\choose k}{4^k} d_k\left(\frac{1}{6}\right)^2 &\equiv 0, \quad\text{if $p>5$.} \end{align*} The $p\equiv 3\pmod{4}$ case of the first one confirms a conjecture of Z.-W. Sun, while the second one confirms a special case of another conjecture of Z.-W. Sun.

Proof of a congruence on sums of powers of $q$-binomial coefficients

We prove that, if $m,n\geqslant 1$ and $a_1,\ldots,a_m$ are nonnegative integers, then \begin{align*} \frac{[a_1+\cdots+a_m+1]!}{[a_1]!\ldots[a_m]!}\sum^{n-1}_{h=0}q^h\prod_{i=1}^m{h\brack a_i} \equiv 0\pmod{[n]}, \end{align*} where $[n]=\frac{1-q^n}{1-q}$, $[n]!=[n][n-1]\cdots[1]$, and ${a\brack b}=\prod_{k=1}^b\frac{1-q^{a-k+1}}{1-q^k}$. The $a_1=\cdots=a_m$ case confirms a recent conjecture of Z.-W. Sun. We also show that, if $p>\max\{a,b\}$ is a prime, then \begin{align*} \frac{[a+b+1]!}{[a]![b]!}\sum_{h=0}^{p-1}q^h{h\brack a}{h\brack b} \equiv (-1)^{a-b} q^{ab-{a\choose 2}-{b\choose 2}}[p]\pmod{[p]^2}. \end{align*}

Proof of a conjecture involving Sun polynomials

The Sun polynomials $g_n(x)$ are defined by \begin{align*} g_n(x)=\sum_{k=0}^n{n\choose k}^2{2k\choose k}x^k. \end{align*} We prove that, for any positive integer $n$, there hold \begin{align*} &\frac{1}{n}\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(4k+3)g_k(x) \in\mathbb{Z}[x],\quad\text{and}\\ &\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(8k^2+12k+5)g_k(-1)\equiv 0\pmod{n}. \end{align*} The first one confirms a recent conjecture of Z.-W. Sun, while the second one partially answers another conjecture of Z.-W. Sun. We give three different proofs of the former. One of them depends on the following congruence: $$ {m+n-2\choose m-1}{n\choose m}{2n\choose n}\equiv 0\pmod{m+n}\quad\text{for $m,n\geqslant 1$.} $$

Proof of a conjecture of Z.-W. Sun on the divisibility of a triple sum

The numbers $R_n$ and $W_n$ are defined as \begin{align*} R_n=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n+k\choose 2k}{2k\choose k}\frac{1}{2k-1},\ \text{and}\ W_n=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n+k\choose 2k}{2k\choose k}\frac{3}{2k-3}. \end{align*} We prove that, for any positive integer $n$ and odd prime $p$, there hold \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(2k+1)R_k^2 &\equiv 0 \pmod{n}, \\ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(2k+1)R_k^2 &\equiv 4p(-1)^{\frac{p-1}{2}} -p^2 \pmod{p^3}, \\ 9\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(2k+1)W_k^2 &\equiv 0 \pmod{n}, \\ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(2k+1)W_k^2 &\equiv 12p(-1)^{\frac{p-1}{2}}-17p^2 \pmod{p^3}, \quad\text{if $p>3$.} \end{align*} The first two congruences were originally conjectured by Z.-W. Sun. Our proof is based on the multi-variable Zeilberger algorithm and the following observation: $$ {2n\choose n}{n\choose k}{m\choose k}{k\choose m-n}\equiv 0\pmod{{2k\choose k}{2m-2k\choose m-k}}, $$ where $0\leqslant k\leqslant n\leqslant m \leqslant 2n$.

On the divisibility of sums involving powers of multi-variable Schmidt polynomials

The multi-variable Schmidt polynomials are defined by $$ S_n^{(r)}(x_0,\ldots,x_n):=\sum_{k=0}^n {n+k \choose 2k}^{r}{2k\choose k} x_k. $$ We prove that, for any positive integers $m$, $n$, $r$, and $\varepsilon=\pm 1$, all the coefficients in the polynomial $$ \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\varepsilon^k(2k+1) S_k^{(r)}(x_0,\ldots,x_k)^m $$ are multiples of $n$. This generalizes a recent result of Pan on the divisibility of sums of Apéry polynomials.

Proof of a conjecture of Mircea Merca

We prove that, for any prime $p$ and positive integer $r$ with $p^r>2$, the number of multinomial coefficients such that $$ {k\choose k_1,k_2,\ldots,k_n}=p^r,\quad \text{and}\quad k_1+2k_2+\cdots+nk_n=n, $$ is given by $$ δ_{p^r,\,k}\left(\left\lfloor\frac{n-1}{p^r-1}\right\rfloor -δ_{0,\,n\bmod p^r} \right), $$ where $δ_{i,j}$ is the Kronecker delta and $\lfloor x\rfloor$ stands for the largest integer not exceeding $x$. This confirms a recent conjecture of Mircea Merca.

Proof of a supercongruence conjectured by Z.-H. Sun

The Franel numbers are defined by $ f_n=\sum_{k=0}^n {n\choose k}^3. $ Motivated by the recent work of Z.-W. Sun on Franel numbers, we prove that \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(3k+1)(-16)^{n-k-1} {2k\choose k} f_k &\equiv 0\pmod{n{2n\choose n}}, \\ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{3k+1}{(-16)^k} {2k\choose k} f_k &\equiv p (-1)^{\frac{p-1}{2}} \pmod{p^3}. \end{align*} where $n>1$ and $p$ is an odd prime. The second congruence modulo $p^2$ confirms a recent conjecture of Z.-H. Sun. We also show that, if $p$ is a prime of the form $4k+3$, then $$ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{{2k\choose k} f_k}{(-16)^k} \equiv 0 \pmod p, $$ which confirms a special case of another conjecture of Z.-H. Sun.

Proof of some conjectures of Z.-W. Sun on the divisibility of certain double-sums

Z.-W. Sun introduced three kinds of numbers: \begin{align*}S_n=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n\choose k}^2{2k\choose k}(2k+1),\qquad s_n=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n\choose k}^2{2k\choose k}\frac{1}{2k-1}, \end{align*} and $S_n^{+}=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n\choose k}^2{2k\choose k}(2k+1)^2$. In this paper we mainly prove that \begin{align*} 4\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}kS_k\equiv \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}s_k\equiv \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}S_k^{+}\equiv 0\pmod{n^2}\quad\text{for $n\geqslant 1$}, \end{align*} by establishing some binomial coefficient identities, such as \begin{align*} 4\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}kS_k=n^2\sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\frac{1}{k+1}{2k\choose k}(6k{n-1\choose k}^2+{n-1\choose k}{n-1\choose k+1}). \end{align*} This confirms several recent conjectures of Z.-W. Sun.

Proof of two divisibility properties of binomial coefficients conjectured by Z.-W. Sun

For all positive integers n, we prove the following divisibility properties: $$(2n+3){2n\choose n} | 3{6n\choose 3n}{3n\choose n}, and (10n+3){3n\choose n} | 21{15n\choose 5n} {5n\choose n}.$$ This confirms two recent conjectures of Z.-W. Sun. Some similar divisibility properties are given. Moreover, we show that, for all positive integers m and n, the product $am{am+bm-1\choose am}{an+bn\choose an}$ is divisible by m+n. In fact, the latter result can be generalized to the q-binomial coefficients and q-integers case, which generalizes the positivity of q-Catalan numbers. We also propose several related conjectures.

Some congruences involving powers of Delannoy polynomials

The Delannoy polynomial $D_n(x)$ is defined by $$ D_n(x)=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n\choose k}{n+k\choose k}x^k. $$ We prove that, if $x$ is an integer and $p$ is a prime not dividing $x(x+1)$, then \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(2k+1)D_k(x)^3 &\equiv p\left(\frac{-4x-3}{p}\right) \pmod{p^2}, \\ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(2k+1)D_k(x)^4 &\equiv p \pmod{p^2}, \\ \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(-1)^k(2k+1)D_k(x)^3 &\equiv p\left(\frac{4x+1}{p}\right) \pmod{p^2}, \end{align*} where $\big(\frac{\cdot}{p}\big)$ denotes the Legendre symbol. The first two congruences confirm a conjecture of Z.-W. Sun [Sci. China 57 (2014), 1375--1400]. The third congruence confirms a special case of another conjecture of Z.-W. Sun [J. Number Theory 132 (2012), 2673--2699]. We also prove that, for any integer $x$ and odd prime $p$, there holds \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(-1)^k(2k+1)D_k(x)^4 &\equiv p\sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}{2}} (-1)^k {2k\choose k}^2(x^2+x)^k(2x+1)^{2k} \pmod{p^2}, \end{align*} and conjecture that it still holds modulo $p^3$.

Some q-analogues of (super)congruences of Beukers, Van Hamme and Rodriguez-Villegas

For any odd prime p we obtain q-analogues of Van Hamme's supercongruence: $$ \sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}{2}}{2k\choose k}^3\frac{1}{64^k} \equiv 0 \pmod{p^2} \quad\text{for}\quad p\equiv 3\pmod 4, $$ and Rodriguez-Villegas' Beukers-like supercongruences involving products of three binomial coefficients. For example, we prove that \begin{align*} \sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}{2}} {2k\brack k}_{q^2}^3 \frac{q^{2k}}{(-q^2;q^2)_k^2 (-q;q)_{2k}^2} &\equiv 0\pmod{[p]^2} \quad\text{for}\quad p\equiv 3\pmod 4, \\ \sum_{k=0}^{\frac{p-1}{2}}{2k\brack k}_{q^3}\frac{(q;q^3)_k (q^{2};q^3)_{k} q^{3k} }{ (q^{6};q^{6})_k^2 } &\equiv 0 \pmod{[p]^2}\quad\text{for}\quad p\equiv 2\pmod{3}, \end{align*} where $[p]=1+q+\cdots+q^{p-1}$, $(a;q)_n=(1-a)(1-aq)\cdots(1-aq^{n-1})$, and ${n\brack k}_q$ denotes the q-binomial coefficient. Actually, our results give q-analogues of Z.-H. Sun's and Z.-W. Sun's generalizations of the above Beukers-like supercongruences. Our proof uses the theory of basic hypergeometric series including a new q-Clausen-type summation formula.

Some q-analogues of supercongruences of Rodriguez-Villegas

We study different q-analogues and generalizations of the ex-conjectures of Rodriguez-Villegas. For example, for any odd prime p, we show that the known congruence \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{{2k\choose k}^2}{16^k} \equiv (-1)^{\frac{p-1}{2}}\pmod{p^2} has the following two nice q-analogues with [p]=1+q+...+q^{p-1}: \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}\frac{(q;q^2)_k^2}{(q^2;q^2)_k^2}q^{(1+\varepsilon)k} &\equiv (-1)^{\frac{p-1}{2}}q^{\frac{(p^2-1)\varepsilon}{4}}\pmod{[p]^2}, where (a;q)_0=1, (a;q)_n=(1-a)(1-aq)...(1-aq^{n-1}) for n=1,2,..., and \varepsilon=\pm1. Several related conjectures are also proposed.

A quadratic formula for basic hypergeometric series related to Askey-Wilson polynomials

We prove a general quadratic formula for basic hypergeometric series, from which simple proofs of several recent determinant and Pfaffian formulas are obtained. A special case of the quadratic formula is actually related to a Gram determinant formula for Askey-Wilson polynomials. We also show how to derive a recent double-sum formula for the moments of Askey-Wilson polynomials from Newton's interpolation formula.

Some congruences related to the q-Fermat quotients

We give q-analogues of the following congruences by Z.-W. Sun: \sum_{k=1}^{p-1}\frac{D_k}{k} \equiv -\frac{2^{p-1}-1}{p} \pmod p,\\ \sum_{k=1}^{p-1}\frac{H_k}{k 2^k}\equiv 0 \pmod{p},\quad p\geqslant 5, where p is a prime, D_n=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n+k\choose 2k}{2k\choose k} are the Delannoy numbers, and H_n=\sum_{k=1}^n\frac{1}{k} are the harmonic numbers. We also prove that, for any positive integer m and prime p>m+1, \sum_{1\leqslant k_1\leqslant \cdots \leqslant k_m\leqslant p-1}\frac{1}{k_1\cdots k_m 2^{k_m}} \equiv\frac{1}{2}\sum_{k=1}^{p-1}\frac{(-1)^{k-1}}{k^m} \pmod p, which is a multiple generalization of Kohnen's congruence. Furthermore, a q-analogue of this congruence is established.

New congruences for sums involving Apery numbers or central Delannoy numbers

The Apéry numbers $A_n$ and central Delannoy numbers $D_n$ are defined by $$A_n=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n+k\choose 2k}^2{2k\choose k}^2, \quad D_n=\sum_{k=0}^{n}{n+k\choose 2k}{2k\choose k}. $$ Motivated by some recent work of Z.-W. Sun, we prove the following congruences: \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(2k+1)^{2r+1}A_k &\equiv \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}\varepsilon^k (2k+1)^{2r+1}D_k \equiv 0\pmod n, where $n\geqslant 1$, $r\geqslant 0$, and $\varepsilon=\pm1$. For $r=1$, we further show that \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(2k+1)^{3}A_k &\equiv 0\pmod{n^3}, \quad \sum_{k=0}^{p-1}(2k+1)^{3}A_k &\equiv p^3 \pmod{2p^6}, where $p>3$ is a prime. The following congruence \sum_{k=0}^{n-1} {n+k\choose k}^2{n-1\choose k}^2 \equiv 0 \pmod{n} plays an important role in our proof.

Some congruences involving central q-binomial coefficients

Motivated by recent works of Sun and Tauraso, we prove some variations on the Green-Krammer identity involving central q-binomial coefficients, such as $$ \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}(-1)^kq^{-{k+1\choose 2}}{2k\brack k}_q \equiv (\frac{n}{5}) q^{-\lfloor n^4/5\rfloor} \pmod{Φ_n(q)}, $$ where $\big(\frac{n}{p}\big)$ is the Legendre symbol and $Φ_n(q)$ is the $n$th cyclotomic polynomial. As consequences, we deduce that $$ \sum_{k=0}^{3^a m-1} q^{k}{2k\brack k}_q &\equiv 0 \pmod{(1-q^{3^a})/(1-q)}, \sum_{k=0}^{5^a m-1}(-1)^kq^{-{k+1\choose 2}}{2k\brack k}_q &\equiv 0 \pmod{(1-q^{5^a})/(1-q)}, $$ for $a,m\geq 1$, the first one being a partial q-analogue of the Strauss-Shallit-Zagier congruence modulo powers of 3. Several related conjectures are proposed.

Generalizing a sequence of Lambert, Cayley and Ramanujan, Chapoton has recently introduced a polynomial sequence Q_n:=Q_n(x,y,z,t) defined by Q_1=1, Q_{n+1}=[x+nz+(y+t)(n+y\partial_y)]Q_n. In this paper we prove Chapoton's conjecture on the duality formula: Q_n(x,y,z,t)=Q_n(x+nz+nt,y,-t,-z), and answer his question about the combinatorial interpretation of Q_n. Actually we give combinatorial interpretations of these polynomials in terms of plane trees, half-mobile trees, and forests of plane trees. Our approach also leads to a general formula that unifies several known results for enumerating trees and plane trees.

Some Arithmetic Properties of the q-Euler Numbers and q-Salié Numbers

For m>n\geq 0 and 1\leq d\leq m, it is shown that the q-Euler number E_{2m}(q) is congruent to q^{m-n}E_{2n}(q) mod (1+q^d) if and only if m\equiv n mod d. The q-Salié number S_{2n}(q) is shown to be divisible by (1+q^{2r+1})^{\left\lfloor \frac{n}{2r+1}\right\rfloor} for any r\geq 0. Furthermore, similar congruences for the generalized q-Euler numbers are also obtained, and some conjectures are formulated.

A q-Analogue of Faulhaber's Formula for Sums of Powers

Let $$ S_{m,n}(q):=\sum_{k=1}^{n}\frac{1-q^{2k}}{1-q^2} (\frac{1-q^k}{1-q})^{m-1}q^{\frac{m+1}{2}(n-k)}. $$ Generalizing the formulas of Warnaar and Schlosser, we prove that there exist polynomials $P_{m,k}(q)\in\mathbb{Z}[q]$ such that $$ S_{2m+1,n}(q) =\sum_{k=0}^{m}(-1)^kP_{m,k}(q) \frac{(1-q^n)^{m+1-k}(1-q^{n+1})^{m+1-k}q^{kn}} {(1-q^2)(1-q)^{2m-3k}\prod_{i=0}^{k}(1-q^{m+1-i})}, $$ and solve a problem raised by Schlosser. We also show that there is a similar formula for the following $q$-analogue of alternating sums of powers: $$ T_{m,n}(q):=\sum_{k=1}^{n}(-1)^{n-k} (\frac{1-q^k}{1-q})^{m}q^{\frac{m}{2}(n-k)}. $$

Combinatorial Interpretations of the q-Faulhaber and q-Salie Coefficients

Recently, Guo and Zeng discovered two families of polynomials featuring in a q-analogue of Faulhaber's formula for the sums of powers and a q-analogue of Gessel-Viennot's formula involving Salie's coefficients for the alternating sums of powers. In this paper, we show that these are polynomials with symmetric, nonnegative integral coefficients by refining Gessel-Viennot's combinatorial interpretations.

The Eulerian Distribution on Involutions is Indeed Unimodal

Let I_{n,k} (resp. J_{n,k}) be the number of involutions (resp. fixed-point free involutions) of {1,...,n} with k descents. Motivated by Brenti's conjecture which states that the sequence I_{n,0}, I_{n,1},..., I_{n,n-1} is log-concave, we prove that the two sequences I_{n,k} and J_{2n,k} are unimodal in k, for all n. Furthermore, we conjecture that there are nonnegative integers a_{n,k} such that $$ \sum_{k=0}^{n-1}I_{n,k}t^k=\sum_{k=0}^{\lfloor (n-1)/2\rfloor}a_{n,k}t^{k}(1+t)^{n-2k-1}. $$ This statement is stronger than the unimodality of I_{n,k} but is also interesting in its own right.
