Some remarks on convex body domination

Convex body domination is an important elaboration of the technique of sparse domination that has seen significant development and applications over the past ten years. In this paper, we present an abstract framework for convex body domination, which also applies to Banach space -valued functions, and yields matrix-weighted norm inequalities in this setting. We explore applications to "generalised commutators", obtaining new examples of bounded operators among linear combinations of compositions of pointwise multipliers and a singular integral operator.

The Holmes--Wick theorem on two-weight bounds for higher order commutators revisited

A sufficient condition for the two-weight boundedness of higher order commutators was recently obtained by Holmes and Wick in terms of an intersection of two BMO spaces. We provide an alternative proof, showing that the higher order case can be deduced by a classical Cauchy integral argument from the corresponding first order result of Holmes, Lacey and Wick.

Quantitative weighted estimates for rough homogeneous singular integrals

We consider homogeneous singular kernels, whose angular part is bounded, but need not have any continuity. For the norm of the corresponding singular integral operators on the weighted space $L^2(w)$, we obtain a bound that is quadratic in the $A_2$ constant $[w]_{A_2}$. We do not know if this is sharp, but it is the best known quantitative result for this class of operators. The proof relies on a classical decomposition of these operators into smooth pieces, for which we use a quantitative elaboration of Lacey's dyadic decomposition of Dini-continuous operators: the dependence of constants on the Dini norm of the kernels is crucial to control the summability of the series expansion of the rough operator. We conclude with applications and conjectures related to weighted bounds for powers of the Beurling transform.

Non-probabilistic proof of the A_2 theorem, and sharp weighted bounds for the q-variation of singular integrals

Any Calderon-Zygmund operator T is pointwise dominated by a convergent sum of positive dyadic operators. We give an elementary self-contained proof of this fact, which is simpler than the probabilistic arguments used for all previous results in this direction. Our argument also applies to the q-variation of certain Calderon-Zygmund operators, a stronger nonlinearity than the maximal truncations. As an application, we obtain new sharp weighted inequalities.

Pointwise convergence of vector-valued Fourier series

We prove a vector-valued version of Carleson's theorem: Let Y=[X,H]_t be a complex interpolation space between a UMD space X and a Hilbert space H. For p\in(1,\infty) and f\in L^p(T;Y), the partial sums of the Fourier series of f converge to f pointwise almost everywhere. Apparently, all known examples of UMD spaces are of this intermediate form Y=[X,H]_t. In particular, we answer affirmatively a question of Rubio de Francia on the pointwise convergence of Fourier series of Schatten class valued functions.

The A_2 theorem: Remarks and complements

I give a mini-survey of several approaches to the $A_2$ theorem, biased towards the "corona" rather than the "Bellman" side of the coin. There are two new results (a streamlined form of Lerner's local oscillation formula, and the sharpness of the linear-in-complexity weak $(1,1)$ bound for dyadic shifts) and two new proofs of known results (the $A_p$--$A_\infty$ testing conditions, and the two-weight $T1$ theorem for positive dyadic operators).

The local non-homogeneous Tb theorem for vector-valued functions

We extend the local non-homogeneous Tb theorem of Nazarov, Treil and Volberg to the setting of singular integrals with operator-valued kernel that act on vector-valued functions. Here, `vector-valued' means `taking values in a function lattice with the UMD (unconditional martingale differences) property'. A similar extension (but for general UMD spaces rather than UMD lattices) of Nazarov-Treil-Volberg's global non-homogeneous Tb theorem was achieved earlier by the first author, and it has found applications in the work of Mayboroda and Volberg on square-functions and rectifiability. Our local version requires several elaborations of the previous techniques, and raises new questions about the limits of the vector-valued theory.

The Vector Valued Quartile Operator

Certain vector-valued inequalities are shown to hold for a Walsh analog of the bilinear Hilbert transform. These extensions are phrased in terms of a recent notion of quartile type of a UMD (Unconditional Martingale Differences) Banach space X. Every known UMD Banach space has finite quartile type, and it was recently shown that the Walsh analog of Carleson's Theorem holds under a closely related assumption of finite tile type. For a Walsh model of the bilinear Hilbert transform however, the quartile type should be sufficiently close to that of a Hilbert space for our results to hold. A full set of inequalities is quantified in terms of quartile type.

Foundations of vector-valued singular integrals revisited---with random dyadic cubes

The vector-valued $T(1)$ theorem due to Figiel, and a certain square function estimate of Bourgain for translations of functions with a limited frequency spectrum, are two cornerstones of harmonic analysis in UMD spaces. In this paper, a simplified approach to these results is presented, exploiting Nazarov, Treil and Volberg's method of random dyadic cubes, which allows to circumvent the most subtle parts of the original arguments.

Weak and Strong type $ A_p$ Estimates for Calderón-Zygmund Operators

For a Calderon-Zygmund operator T on d-dimensional space, that has a sufficiently smooth kernel, we prove that for any 1< p \le 2, and weight w in A_p, that the maximal truncations T_* of T map L^p(w) to weak-L^p(w), with norm bounded by the A_p characteristic of w to the first power. This result combined with the (deep) recent result of Perez-Treil-Volberg, shows that the strong-type of T on L^2(w) is bounded by A_2 characteristic of w to the first power. (It is well-known that L^2 is the critical case for the strong type estimate.) Both results are sharp, aside from the number of derivatives imposed on the kernel of the operator. The proof uses the full structure theory of Calderon-Zygmund Operators, reduction to testing conditions, and a Corona argument.

Weak And Strong Type Estimates for Maximal Truncations of Calderón-Zygmund Operators on $ A_p$ Weighted Spaces

For 1<p< \infty, weight w \in A_p, and any L ^2 -bounded Calderón-Zygmund operator T, we show that there is a constant C(T,P) so that we prove the sharp norm dependence on T_#, the maximal truncations of T, in both weak and strong type L^p(w) norms. Namely, for the weak type norm, T_# maps L^p(w) to weak-L^p(w) with norm at most \|w\|_{A_p}. And for the strong type norm, the norm estimate is \|w\|_{A_p}^{\max(1, (p-1) ^{-1})}. These estimates are not improvable in the power of \lVert w\rVert_{A_p}. Our argument follows the outlines of the arguments of Lacey-Petermichl-Reguera (Math.\ Ann.\ 2010) and Hytönen-Pérez-Treil-Volberg (arXiv, 2010) with new ingredients, including a weak-type estimate for certain duals of T_#, and sufficient conditions for two weight inequalities in L ^{p} for T_#. Our proof does not rely upon extrapolation.

Weak and Strong-type estimates for Haar Shift Operators: Sharp power on the $A_p$ characteristic

As a corollary to our main result we deduce sharp A_p$ inequalities for T being either the Hilbert transform in dimension d=1, the Beurling transform in dimension d=2, or a Riesz transform in any dimension d\ge 2. For T_{\ast} the maximal truncations of these operators, we prove the sharp A_p weighted weak and strong-type L ^{p} (w) inequalities, for all 1<p<\infty. Key elements of the proof are (1) extrapolation (2) a recent argument for the A_2 bound in the untruncated case, an argument of Lacey-Petermichl-Reguera. (3) a weak-L^1 estimate for duals of maximal truncations. And (4) recent characterizations of the two-weight inequalities for strong and weak type inequalities, due to Lacey-Sawyer-Uriate-Tuero.

Pseudo-localisation of singular integrals in L^p

As a step in developing a non-commutative Calderon-Zygmund theory, J. Parcet (J. Funct. Anal., 2009) established a new pseudo-localisation principle for classical singular integrals, showing that Tf has small L^2 norm outside a set which only depends on f in L^2 but not on the arbitrary normalised Calderon-Zygmund operator T. Parcet also asked if a similar result holds true in L^p for 1 < p < infinity. This is answered in the affirmative in the present paper. The proof, which is based on martingale techniques, even somewhat improves on the original L^2 result.

preprint2010arXiv

The sharp weighted bound for general Calderon-Zygmund operators

For a general Calderon-Zygmund operator $T$ on $R^N$, it is shown that $\|Tf\|_{L^2(w)}\leq C(T)\|w\|_{A_2}\|f\|_{L^2(w)}$ for all Muckenhoupt weights $w\in A_2$. This optimal estimate was known as the $A_2$ conjecture. A recent result of Perez-Treil-Volberg reduced the problem to a testing condition on indicator functions, which is verified in this paper. The proof consists of the following elements: (i) a variant of the Nazarov-Treil-Volberg method of random dyadic systems with just one random system and completely without bad parts; (ii) a resulting representation of a general Calderon-Zygmund operator as an average of dyadic shifts; and (iii) improvements of the Lacey-Petermichl-Reguera estimates for these dyadic shifts, which allow summing up the series in the obtained representation.
