CHASE: LLM Agents for Dissecting Malicious PyPI Packages

Modern software package registries like PyPI have become critical infrastructure for software development, but are increasingly exploited by threat actors distributing malicious packages with sophisticated multi-stage attack chains. While Large Language Models (LLMs) offer promising capabilities for automated code analysis, their application to security-critical malware detection faces fundamental challenges, including hallucination and context confusion, which can lead to missed detections or false alarms. We present CHASE (Collaborative Hierarchical Agents for Security Exploration), a high-reliability multi-agent architecture that addresses these limitations through a Plan-and-Execute coordination model, specialized Worker Agents focused on specific analysis aspects, and integration with deterministic security tools for critical operations. Our key insight is that reliability in LLM-based security analysis emerges not from improving individual model capabilities but from architecting systems that compensate for LLM weaknesses while leveraging their semantic understanding strengths. Evaluation on a dataset of 3,000 packages (500 malicious, 2,500 benign) demonstrates that CHASE achieves 98.4% recall with only 0.08% false positive rate, while maintaining a practical median analysis time of 4.5 minutes per package, making it suitable for operational deployment in automated package screening. Furthermore, we conducted a survey with cybersecurity professionals to evaluate the generated analysis reports, identifying their key strengths and areas for improvement. This work provides a blueprint for building reliable AI-powered security tools that can scale with the growing complexity of modern software supply chains. Simple-Sum Giant Graviton Expansions for Orbifolds and Orientifolds

We study giant graviton expansions of the superconformal index of 4d orbifold/orientifold theories. In general, a giant graviton expansion is given as a multiple sum over wrapping numbers. It has been known that the expansion can be reduced to a simple sum for the ${\cal N}=4$ $U(N)$ SYM by choosing appropriate expansion variables. We find such a reduction occurs for a few examples of orbifold and orientifold theories: $\mathbb{Z}_k$ orbifold and orientifolds with $O3$ and $O7$. We also argue that for a quiver gauge theory associated with a toric Calabi-Yau $3$-fold the simple-sum expansion works only if the toric diagram is a triangle, that is, the Calabi-Yau is an orbifold of $\mathbb{C}^3$.

A First Look at COVID-19 Domain Names: Origin and Implications

This work takes a first look at domain names related to COVID-19 (Cov19doms in short), using a large-scale registered Internet domain name database, which accounts for 260M of distinct domain names registered for 1.6K of distinct top-level domains. We extracted 167K of Cov19doms that have been registered between the end of December 2019 and the end of September 2020. We attempt to answer the following research questions through our measurement study: RQ1: Is the number of Cov19doms registrations correlated with the COVID-19 outbreaks?, RQ2: For what purpose do people register Cov19doms? Our chief findings are as follows: (1) Similar to the global COVID-19 pandemic observed around April 2020, the number of Cov19doms registrations also experienced the drastic growth, which, interestingly, pre-ceded the COVID-19 pandemic by about a month, (2) 70 % of active Cov19doms websites with visible content provided useful information such as health, tools, or product sales related to COVID-19, and (3) non-negligible number of registered Cov19doms was used for malicious purposes. These findings imply that it has become more challenging to distinguish domain names registered for legitimate purposes from others and that it is crucial to pay close attention to how Cov19doms will be used/misused in the future.

Flavor symmetries of six-dimensional ${\cal N}=(1,0)$ theories from AdS/CFT correspondence

We calculate the superconformal indices of a class of six-dimensional ${\cal N}=(1,0)$ superconformal field theories realized on M5-branes at $\mathbb{C}^2/\mathbb{Z}_k$ singularity by using the method developed in previous works of the authors and collaborators. We use the AdS/CFT correspondence, and finite $N$ corrections are included as the contribution of M2-branes wrapped on two-cycles in $S^4/\mathbb{Z}_k$. We confirm that the indices are consistent with the expected flavor symmetries.

Finite $N$ corrections to the superconformal index of toric quiver gauge theories

The superconformal index of quiver gauge theories realized on D3-branes in toric Calabi-Yau cones is investigated. We use the AdS/CFT correspondence and study D3-branes wrapped on supersymmetric cycles. We focus on brane configurations in which a single D3-brane is wrapped on a cycle, and we do not take account of branes with multiple wrapping. We propose a formula that gives finite $N$ corrections to the index caused by such brane configurations. We compare the predictions of the formula for several examples with the results on the gauge theory side obtained by using localization for small size of gauge groups, and confirm that the formula correctly reproduces the finite $N$ corrections up to expected order.

Physics of Phonon-Polaritons in Amorphous Materials

The nature of bosonic excitations in disordered materials has remained elusive due to the difficulties in defining key concepts such as quasi-particles in the presence of disorder. We report on the experimental observation of phonon-polaritons in glasses, including a boson peak (BP), i.e. excess of THz modes over the Debye law. A theoretical framework based on the concept of diffusons is developed to model the broadening linewidth of the polariton due to disorder-induced scattering. It is shown that the scaling of the BP frequency with the diffusion constant of the linewidth strongly correlates with that of the Ioffe-Regel (IR) crossover frequency of the polariton. This result demonstrates the universality of the BP in the low-energy spectra of collective bosonic-like excitations in glasses, well beyond the traditional case of acoustic phonons, and establishes the IR crossover as the fundamental physical mechanism behind the BP.

Schur index of the ${\cal N}=4$ $U(N)$ SYM via the AdS/CFT correspondence

We calculate the Schur index of the ${\cal N}=4$ $U(N)$ SYM with finite $N$ via the AdS/CFT correspondence as the contribution of D3-branes wrapped on contractible cycles in $\boldsymbol{S}^5$ on some assumptions motivated by preliminary analyses. As far as we have checked numerically it agrees with the index calculated on the gauge theory side. In a certain limit it reproduces the analytic result given by Bourdier, Drukker, and Felix.

Detection of boson peak and fractal dynamics of disordered system using terahertz spectroscopy

Disordered systems exhibit universal excitation, referred to as the boson peak, in the terahertz region. Meanwhile, the so-called fracton is expected to appear in the nanoscale region owing to the self-similar structure of monomers in polymeric glasses. We demonstrate that such excitations can be detected using terahertz spectroscopy. For the interaction between terahertz light and the vibrational density of states of the fractal structure, we formulate an infrared light-vibration coupling coefficient for the fracton region. Accordingly, we show that information concerning fractal and fracton dimensions appears in the exponent of the absorption coefficient. Finally, using terahertz time-domain spectroscopy and low-frequency Raman scattering, we experimentally observe these universal excitations in a protein lysozyme system that has an intrinsically disordered and self-similar nature in a single supramolecule. These findings are applicable to disordered and polymeric glasses in general and will be key to understanding universal dynamics of disordered systems by terahertz light.

Finite $N$ corrections to the superconformal index of orbifold quiver gauge theories

We investigate the AdS/CFT correspondence for quiver gauge theories realized on D3-branes put on abelian orbifolds by using the superconformal index. We assume that on the gravity side the finite $N$ corrections of the index are reproduced by D3-branes wrapped on three particular three-cycles in the internal space ${\cal Y}$, the abelian orbifold of $\boldsymbol{S}^5$. We first establish the relation between baryonic charges on the gauge theory side and the D3-brane wrapping numbers and holonomies on D3-branes. Then we confirm our proposal by comparing the results of localization for gauge theories and the results on the AdS side including the contributions of D3-branes and excitation on them for many examples. We only focus on the leading finite $N$ corrections starting from $q^N$, and leave the sub-leading corrections starting at $q^{kN}$ ($k\geq2$) as a task for the future. We find complete agreement for the leading corrections in all examples.

Study of Tracking and Flavor Tagging with FPCCD Vertex Detector

One of the major physics goals at the ILC is the precise measurement of the Higgs coupling constants to b-quarks and c-quarks. To achieve this measurement, we need a high-performance vertex detector leading to precise flavor tagging. For this purpose, we are developing the Fine Pixel CCD (FPCCD) vertex detector. In this paper, we will report on the development status of FPCCDTrackFinder, a new track finder improving tracking efficiency, especially in the low $p_t$ region, and an evaluation result of the flavor tagging performance with FPCCDTrackFinder in the FPCCD vertex detector.

The Central Region of the Barred Spiral Galaxy NGC1097 Probed by AKARI Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

With the Infrared Camera on board AKARI, we carried out near-infrared (2.5-5.0 micron) spectroscopy of the central kiloparsec region of the barred spiral galaxy, NGC1097, categorized as Seyfert 1 with a circumnuclear starburst ring. Our observations mapped the area of ~50"*10" with the resolution of ~5", covering about a half of the ring and the galactic center. As a result, we spatially resolve the starburst ring in the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon 3.3 micron, the aliphatic hydrocarbon 3.4-3.6 micron features, and the hydrogen Br alpha 4.05 micron emission. They exhibit spatial distributions significantly different from each other, indicating that the environments vary considerably around the ring. In particular, the aliphatic features are enhanced near the bar connecting the ring with the nucleus, where the structure of hydrocarbon grains seems to be relatively disordered. Near the center, the continuum emission and the CO/SiO absorption features are strong, which indicates that the environments inside the ring are dominated by old stellar populations. The near-infrared spectra do not show any evidence for the presence of nuclear activity.

Optical study of charge instability in CeRu2Al10 in comparison with CeOs2Al10 and CeFe2Al10

The anisotropic electronic structure responsible for the antiferromagnetic transition in CeRu$_2$Al$_{10}$ at the unusually high temperature of $T_0$ = 28 K was studied using optical conductivity spectra, Ce 3d X-ray photoemission spectra, and band calculation. It was found that the electronic structure in the $ac$ plane is that of a Kondo semiconductor, whereas that along the b axis has a nesting below 32 K (slightly higher than $T_0$). These characteristics are the same as those of CeOs$_2$Al$_{10}$ [S. Kimura {\it et al.}, Phys. Rev. Lett. 106, 056404 (2011).]. The $c$-$f$ hybridization intensities between the conduction and $4f$ electrons of CeRu$_2$Al$_{10}$ and CeOs$_2$Al$_{10}$ are weaker than that of CeFe$_2$Al$_{10}$, showing no magnetic ordering. These results suggest that the electronic structure with one-dimensional weak $c$-$f$ hybridization along the b axis combined with two-dimensional strong hybridization in the $ac$ plane causes charge-density wave (CDW) instability, and the CDW state then induces magnetic ordering.

Properties of dust and PAHs in the hot plasma of the elliptical galaxy NGC4125 revealed with AKARI and Spitzer

We present the spatial distributions of dust and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the elliptical galaxy NGC4125, revealed by AKARI and Spitzer. NGC4125 is relatively bright in the dust and the PAH emision for elliptical galaxies, although it certainly possesses diffuse interstellar hot plasma indicated by the high spatial resolution X-ray data of Chandra. We investigate how the dust and PAHs interact with the X-ray plasma or avoid the interaction by comparing their spatial distributions. We find that the distributions of the PAHs and dust are different from each other, both showing a significant deviation from a smooth stellar distribution. The PAH emission predominantly comes from a dust lane, a compact dense molecular gas region in the galactic center, where the PAHs are likely to have been protected from the interaction with the X-ray plasma. The dust emission has more extended structures similar to the distribution of the X-ray plasma, suggesting their interaction to some extent. We also discuss a possible origin of the dust and PAHs in the galaxy.

Widely Extended [OIII] 88 um Line Emission around the 30 Doradus Region Revealed with AKARI FIS-FTS

We present the distribution map of the far-infrared [OIII] 88um line emission around the 30 Doradus (30 Dor) region in the Large Magellanic Cloud obtained with the Fourier Transform Spectrometer of the Far-Infrared Surveyor onboard AKARI. The map reveals that the [OIII] emission is widely distributed by more than 10' around the super star cluster R136, implying that the 30 Dor region is affluent with interstellar radiation field hard enough to ionize O^{2+}. The observed [OIII] line intensities are as high as (1-2) x 10^{-6} W m^{-2} sr^{-1} on the peripheral regions 4'-5' away from the center of 30 Dor, which requires gas densities of 60-100 cm^{-3}. However the observed size of the distribution of the [OIII] emission is too large to be explained by massive stars in the 30 Dor region enshrouded by clouds with the constant gas density of 10^2 cm^{-3}. Therefore the surrounding structure is likely to be highly clumpy. We also find a global correlation between the [OIII] and the far-infrared continuum emission, suggesting that the gas and dust are well mixed in the highly-ionized region where the dust survives in clumpy dense clouds shielded from the energetic photons.

Optical conductivity from local anharmonic phonons

Recently there has been paid much attention to phenomena caused by local anharmonic vibrations of the guest ions encapsulated in polyhedral cages of materials such as pyrochlore oxides, filled skutterdites and clathrates. We theoretically investigate the optical conductivity solely due to these so-called rattling phonons in a one-dimensional anharmonic potential model. The dipole interaction of the guest ions with electric fields induces excitations expressed as transitions among vibrational states with non-equally spaced energies, resulting in a natural line broadening and a shift of the peak frequency as anharmonic effects. In the case of a single well potential, a softening of the peak frequency and an asymmetric narrowing of the line width with decreasing temperature are understood as a shift of the spectral weight to lower level transitions. On the other hand, the case of a double minima potential leads to a multi-splitting of a spectral peak in the conductivity spectrum with decreasing temperature.
