Doubling the equatorial for the prescribed scalar curvature problem on SN{\mathbb{S}}^N

We consider the prescribed scalar curvature problem on SN {\mathbb{S}}^N $$ Δ_{{\mathbb S}^N} v-\frac{N(N-2)}{2} v+\tilde{K}(y) v^{\frac{N+2}{N-2}}=0 \quad \mbox{on} \ {\mathbb S}^N, \qquad v >0 \quad \mbox{on} \ {\mathbb S}^N, $$ under the assumptions that the scalar curvature K~\tilde K is rotationally symmetric, and has a positive local maximum point between the poles. We prove the existence of infinitely many non-radial positive solutions, whose energy can be made arbitrarily large. These solutions are invariant under some non-trivial sub-group of O(3)O(3) obtained doubling the equatorial. We use the finite dimensional Lyapunov-Schmidt reduction method.

On Ambrosetti-Malchiodi-Ni conjecture on two-dimensional smooth bounded domains: clustering concentration layers

We consider the clustering concentration on curves for solutions to the problem $$ \varepsilon^2 {\mathrm {div}}\big( \nabla_{{\mathfrak a}(y)} u\big)- V(y)u+u^p\, =\, 0, \quad u>0 \quad\mbox{in }Ω, \qquad \nabla_{{\mathfrak a}(y)} u\cdot ν\, =\, 0\quad\mbox{on } \partial Ω, $$ where ΩΩ is a bounded domain in R2\mathbb R^2 with smooth boundary, the exponent pp is greater than 11, ε>0\varepsilon>0 is a small parameter, VV is a uniformly positive smooth potential on Ωˉ\barΩ, and νν denotes the outward normal of ∂Ω\partial Ω. For two positive smooth functions a1(y),a2(y){\mathfrak a}_1(y), {\mathfrak a}_2(y) on Ωˉ\barΩ, the operator ∇a(y)\nabla_{{\mathfrak a}(y)} is given by ∇a(y)u=(a1(y)∂u∂y1, a2(y)∂u∂y2). \nabla_{{\mathfrak a}(y)} u=\Bigg({\mathfrak a}_1(y)\frac{\partial u}{\partial y_1}, \, {\mathfrak a}_2(y)\frac{\partial u}{\partial y_2}\Bigg).

Clustering of Boundary Interfaces for an inhomogeneous Allen-Cahn equation on a smooth bounded domain

We consider the inhomogeneous Allen-Cahn equation $$ ε^2Δu\,+\,V(y)(1-u^2)\,u\,=\,0\quad \mbox{in}\ Ω, \qquad \frac {\partial u}{\partial ν}\,=\,0\quad \mbox{on}\ \partial Ω, $$ where ΩΩ is a bounded domain in R2{\mathbb R}^2 with smooth boundary ∂Ω\partialΩ and V(x)V(x) is a positive smooth function, ε>0ε>0 is a small parameter, νν denotes the unit outward normal of ∂Ω\partialΩ. For any fixed integer N≥2N\geq 2, we will show the existence of a clustered solution uεu_ε with NN-transition layers near ∂Ω\partial Ω with mutual distance O(ε∣ln⁡ε∣)O(ε|\ln ε|), provided that the generalized mean curvature H\mathcal{H} of ∂Ω\partialΩ is positive and εε stays away from a discrete set of values at which resonance occurs. Our result is an extension of those (with dimension two) by A. Malchiodi, W.-M. Ni, J. Wei in Pacific J. Math. (Vol. 229, 2007, no. 2, 447-468) and A. Malchiodi, J. Wei in J. Fixed Point Theory Appl. Large number of bubble solutions for a perturbed fractional Laplacian equation

This paper deals with the following nonlinear perturbed fractional Laplacian equation (−Δ)su=K(∣y′∣,y′′)uN+2sN−2s±ε,  u>0,  u∈D1,s(RN),(-Δ)^s u = K(|y'|,y'')u^{\frac{N+2s}{N-2s}\pmε},\,\,u>0,\,\,u\in D^{1,s}(\mathbb{R}^N), where 0<s<1,N≥4,0<s<1, N\geq 4, (y′,y′′)∈R2×RN−2,(y',y'')\in \mathbb{R}^2\times \mathbb{R}^{N-2}, ε>0ε>0 is a small parameter and K(y)K(y) is nonnegative and bounded. By combining a finite reduction argument and local Pohozaev type of identities, we prove that if N≥4,max⁡{N+1−N2−2N+94,3−N2−6N+132}<s<1N\geq 4,\max\{\frac{N+1-\sqrt{N^{2}-2N+9}}{4},\frac{3-\sqrt{N^{2}-6N+13}}{2}\}<s<1 and K(r,y′′)K(r,y'') has a stable critical point (r0,y0′′)(r_0, y_0'') with r0>0r_0>0 and K(r0,y0′′)>0,K(r_0, y_0'')>0, then the above problem has large number of bubble solutions if ε>0ε>0 is small enough. Also there exist solutions whose functional energy is in the order ε−N−2s−2(N−2s)2ε^{-\frac{N-2s-2}{(N-2s)^{2}}}. Here, instead of estimating directly the derivatives of the reduced functional, we apply some local Pohozaev identities to locate the concentration points of the bubble solutions. Moreover, the concentration points of the bubble solutions include a saddle point of K(y)K(y).

On Ambrosetti-Malchiodi-Ni conjecture on two-dimensional smooth bounded domains

We consider the problem $$ ε^2 Δu-V(y)u+u^p\,=\,0,~~u>0~~\quad\mbox{in}\quadΩ,~~\quad\frac {\partial u}{\partial ν}\,=\,0\quad\mbox{on}~~~\partial Ω, $$ where ΩΩ is a bounded domain in R2\mathbb R^2 with smooth boundary, the exponent p>1p>1, ε>0ε>0 is a small parameter, VV is a uniformly positive, smooth potential on Ωˉ\barΩ, and νν denotes the outward normal of ∂Ω\partial Ω. Let ΓΓ be a curve intersecting orthogonally with ∂Ω\partial Ω at exactly two points and dividing ΩΩ into two parts. Moreover, ΓΓ satisfies stationary and non-degeneracy conditions with respect to the functional ∫ΓVσ\int_ΓV^σ, where σ=p+1p−1−12σ=\frac {p+1}{p-1}-\frac 12. We prove the existence of a solution uεu_ε concentrating along the whole of ΓΓ, exponentially small in εε at any positive distance from it, provided that εε is small and away from certain critical numbers. In particular, this establishes the validity of the two dimensional case of a conjecture by A. Ambrosetti, A. Malchiodi and W.-M. Ni(p.327, [4]).
