A Volume = Multiplicity formula for $p$-families of ideals

In this paper, we work with certain families of ideals called $p$-families in rings of prime characteristic. This family of ideals is present in the theories of tight closure, Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity, and $F$-signature. For each $p$-family of ideals, we attach a Euclidean object called $p$-body, which is analogous to the Newton Okounkov body associated with a graded family of ideals. Using the combinatorial properties of $p$-bodies and algebraic properties of the Hilbert-Kunz multiplicity, we establish in this paper a Volume = Multiplicity formula for $p$-families of $\mathfrak{m}_{R}$-primary ideals in a Noetherian local ring $R$.

High-Energy and Ultra-High-Energy Neutrinos

Astrophysical neutrinos are excellent probes of astroparticle physics and high-energy physics. With energies far beyond solar, supernovae, atmospheric, and accelerator neutrinos, high-energy and ultra-high-energy neutrinos probe fundamental physics from the TeV scale to the EeV scale and beyond. They are sensitive to physics both within and beyond the Standard Model through their production mechanisms and in their propagation over cosmological distances. They carry unique information about their extreme non-thermal sources by giving insight into regions that are opaque to electromagnetic radiation. This white paper describes the opportunities astrophysical neutrino observations offer for astrophysics and high-energy physics, today and in coming years.

Model-Independent Constraints on Non-Unitary Neutrino Mixing from High-Precision Long-Baseline Experiments

Our knowledge on the active 3$ν$ mixing angles ($θ_{12}$, $θ_{13}$, and $θ_{23}$) and the CP phase $δ_{\mathrm{CP}}$ is becoming accurate day-by-day enabling us to test the unitarity of the leptonic mixing matrix with utmost precision. Future high-precision long-baseline experiments are going to play an important role in this direction. In this work, we study the impact of possible non-unitary neutrino mixing (NUNM) in the context of next-generation long-baseline experiments DUNE and T2HKK/JD+KD having one detector in Japan (T2HK/JD) and a second detector in Korea (KD). We estimate the sensitivities of these setups to place direct, model-independent, and competitive constraints on various NUNM parameters. We demonstrate the possible correlations between the NUNM parameters, $θ_{23}$, and $δ_{\mathrm{CP}}$. Our numerical results obtained using only far detector data and supported by simple approximate analytical expressions of the oscillation probabilities in matter, reveal that JD+KD has better sensitivities for $|α_{21}|$ and $α_{22}$ as compared to DUNE, due to its larger statistics in the appearance channel and less systematic uncertainties in the disappearance channel, respectively. For $|α_{31}|$, $|α_{32}|$, and $α_{33}$, DUNE gives better constraints as compared to JD+KD, due to its larger matter effect and wider neutrino energy spectrum. For $α_{11}$, both DUNE and JD+KD give similar bounds. We also show how much the bounds on the NUNM parameters can be improved by combining the prospective data from DUNE and JD+KD setups. We find that due to zero-distance effects, the near detectors alone can also constrain $α_{11}$, $|α_{21}|$, and $α_{22}$ in both these setups. Finally, we observe that the $ν_τ$ appearance sample in DUNE can improve the constraints on $|α_{32}|$ and $α_{33}$.

Quintessence or Phantom: Study of scalar field dark energy models through a general parametrization of the Hubble parameter

In this work we propose a simple general parametrization scheme of the Hubble parameter for the scalar field dark energy models. In our approach it is possible to incorporate both the quintessence and phantom scalar field in a single analytical scheme and write down relevant cosmological parameters which are independent of the nature of the scalar field. A general condition for the phantom barrier crossing has also been obtained. To test this approach, a well behaved parametrization of the normalized Hubble parameter has been considered and a wide variety of observational data like CMB data, Supernovae data, BAO data etc. has been used to constraint the various cosmological parameters. It has been found that data prefer the present value of the equation of state of the dark energy to be in the phantom domain. One interesting outcome of this analysis is that although the current value of the dark energy equation of state is phantom in nature, a phantom crossing of the EOS has taken place in the recent past. We have also carried out the Bayesian model comparison between $ΛCDM$ model and the proposed model which indicates that this model is favored by data as compared to $ΛCDM$ model.

Study of parametrized dark energy models with a general non-canonical scalar field

In this paper, we have considered various dark energy models in the framework of a non-canonical scalar field with a Lagrangian density of the form ${\cal L}(ϕ, X)=f(ϕ)X{\left(\frac{X}{M^{4}_{Pl}}\right)}^{α-1} - V(ϕ)$, which provides the standard canonical scalar field model for $α=1$ and $f(ϕ)=1$. In this particular non-canonical scalar field model, we have carried out the analysis for $α=2$. We have then obtained cosmological solutions for constant as well as variable equation of state parameter ($ω_ϕ(z)$) for dark energy. We have also performed the data analysis for three different functional forms of $ω_ϕ(z)$ by using the combination of SN Ia, BAO and CMB datasets. We have found that for all the choices of $ω_ϕ(z)$, the SN Ia $+$ CMB/BAO dataset favors the past decelerated and recent accelerated expansion phase of the universe. Furthermore, using the combined dataset, we have observed that the reconstructed results of $ω_ϕ(z)$ and $q(z)$ are almost choice independent and the resulting cosmological scenarios are in good agreement with the $Λ$CDM model (within the $1σ$ confidence contour). We have also derived the form of the potentials for each model and the resulting potentials are found to be a quartic potential for constant $ω_ϕ$ and a polynomial in $ϕ$ for variable $ω_ϕ$.

Cosmic acceleration in non-canonical scalar field model - An interacting scenario

In this paper we have studied the dynamics of accelerating scenario within the framework of scalar field models possessing a non-canonical kinetic term. In this toy model, the scalar field is allowed to interact with the dark matter component through a source term. We have assumed a specific form for the coupling term and then have studied the dynamics of the scalar field having a constant equation of state parameter. We have also carried out the dynamical system study of such interacting non-canonical scalar field models for power law potentials for some physically relevant specific values of the model parameters. It has been found that the only for two particular stable fixed points of the system, an accelerating solution is possible and the universe will settle down to a $Λ$CDM universe in future and thus there is no future singularity in this model.

Generalized Second Law of Thermodynamics for Non-canonical Scalar Field Model with Corrected-Entropy

In this work, we have considered a non-canonical scalar field dark energy model in the framework of flat FRW background. It has also been assumed that the dark matter sector interacts with the non-canonical dark energy sector through some interaction term. Using the solutions for this interacting non-canonical scalar field dark energy model, we have investigated the validity of generalized second law (GSL) of thermodynamics in various scenarios using first law and area law of thermodynamics. For this purpose, we have assumed two types of horizons viz apparent horizon and event horizon for the universe and using first law of thermodynamics, we have examined the validity of GSL on both apparent and event horizons. Next, we have considered two types of entropy-corrections on apparent and event horizons. Using the modified area law, we have examined the validity of GSL of thermodynamics on apparent and event horizons under some restrictions of model parameters.

Noncommutative Extension of AdS-CFT and Holographic Superconductors

In this Letter, we consider a Non-Commutative (NC) extension of AdS-CFT correspondence and its effects on holographic superconductors. NC corrections are incorporated via the NC generalization of Schwarzschild black hole metric in AdS with the probe limit. We study NC effects on the relations connecting the charge density and the critical temperature of the Holographic Superconductors. Furthermore, condensation operator of the superconductor has been analyzed. Our results suggest that generically, NC effects increase the critical temperature of the holographic superconductor.

Study of non-canonical scalar field model using various parametrizations of dark energy equation of state

In this present work, we try to build up a cosmological model using a non-canonical scalar field within the framework of a spatially flat FRW space-time. In this context, we have considered four different parametrizations of the equation of state parameter of the non-canonical scalar field. Under this scenario, analytical solutions for various cosmological parameters have been found out. It has been found that the deceleration parameter shows a smooth transition from a positive value to some negative value which indicates that the universe was undergoing an early deceleration followed by late time acceleration which is essential for the structure formation of the universe. With these four parametrizations, the future evolution of the models are also discussed. It has been found that one of the models (Generalized Chaplygin gas model, GCG) mimics the concordance $Λ$CDM in the near future, whereas two other models (CPL and JBP) diverge due to future singularity. Finally, we have studied these theoretical models with the latest datasets from SN Ia $+$ $H(z)$ $+$ BAO/CMB.

An Interacting model of Dark Energy in Brans-Dicke theory

In this paper it is shown that in non-minimally coupled Brans-Dicke theory containing a self-interacting potential, a suitable conformal transformation can automatically give rise to an interaction between the normal matter and the Brans-Dicke scalar field. Considering the scalar field in the Einstein frame as the quintessence matter, it has been shown that such a non-minimal coupling between the matter and the scalar field can give rise to a late time accelerated expansion for the universe preceded by a decelerated expansion for very high values of the Brans-Dicke parameter $ω$. We have also studied the observational constraints on the model parameters considering the Hubble and Supernova data.

Effects of a Maximal Energy Scale in Thermodynamics for Photon Gas and Construction of Path Integral

In this article, we discuss some well-known theoretical models where an observer-independent energy scale or a length scale is present. The presence of this invariant scale necessarily deforms the Lorentz symmetry. We study different aspects and features of such theories about how modifications arise due to this cutoff scale. First we study the formulation of energy-momentum tensor for a perfect fluid in doubly special relativity (DSR), where an energy scale is present. Then we go on to study modifications in thermodynamic properties of photon gas in DSR. Finally we discuss some models with generalized uncertainty principle (GUP).

Path Integral for non-relativistic Generalized Uncertainty Principle corrected Hamiltonian

Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) has brought the idea of existence of minimum measurable length in Quantum physics. Depending on this GUP, non-relativistic Hamiltonian at the Planck scale is modified. In this article, we construct the kernel for this GUP corrected Hamiltonian for free particle by applying the Hamiltonian path integral approach and check the validity conditions for this kernel thoroughly. Interestingly, the probabilistic interpretation of this kernel induces a momentum upper bound in the theory which is comparable with GUP induced maximum momentum uncertainty.

Comparison of Loss ratios of different scheduling algorithms

It is well known that in a firm real time system with a renewal arrival process, exponential service times and independent and identically distributed deadlines till the end of service of a job, the earliest deadline first (EDF) scheduling policy has smaller loss ratio (expected fraction of jobs, not completed) than any other service time independent scheduling policy, including the first come first served (FCFS). Various modifications to the EDF and FCFS policies have been proposed in the literature, with a view to improving performance. In this article, we compare the loss ratios of these two policies along with some of the said modifications, as well as their counterparts with deterministic deadlines. The results include some formal inequalities and some counter-examples to establish non-existence of an order. A few relations involving loss ratios are posed as conjectures, and simulation results in support of these are reported. These results lead to a complete picture of dominance and non-dominance relations between pairs of scheduling policies, in terms of loss ratios.

Gauge Invariant Extension of Linearized Horava Gravity

In the present paper we have constructed a gauge invariant extension of a generic Horava Gravity (HG) model (with quadratic curvature terms) in linearized version in a systematic procedure. No additional fields are introduced. The linearized HG model is explicitly shown to be a gauge fixed version of the Einstein Gravity (EG) thus proving the Bellorin-Restuccia conjecture in a robust way. In the process we have explicitly computed the correct Hamiltonian dynamics using Dirac Brackets appearing from the Second Class Constraints present in the HG model. We comment on applying this scheme to the full non-linear HG.

Generalized particle dynamics in anti de Sitter spaces: A source for dark energy

We consider the generalized particle dynamics, proposed by us, in brane world formalisms for an asymptotically anti de Sitter background. The present framework results in a new model that accounts for the late acceleration of the universe. An effective Dark Energy equation of state, exhibiting a phantom like behaviour, is generated. The model is derived by embedding the physical FRW universe in a $(4+1)$-dimensional effective space-time, induced by the generalized particle dynamics. We corroborate our results with present day observed cosmological parameters.

Noncommutative Spacetime in Very Special Relativity

Very Special Relativity (VSR) framework, proposed by Cohen and Glashow [1], demonstrated that a proper subgroup of the Poincaré group, (in particular ISIM(2)), is sufficient to describe the spacetime symmetries of the so far observed physical phenomena. Subsequently a deformation of the latter, $DISIM_b(2)$, was suggested by Gibbons, Gomis and Pope [2]. In the present work, we introduce a novel Non-Commutative (NC) spacetime structure, underlying the $DISIM_b(2)$. This allows us to construct explicitly the $DISIM_b(2)$ generators, consisting of a sector of Lorentz rotation generators and the translation generators. Exploiting the Darboux map technique, we construct a point particle Lagrangian that lives in the NC phase space proposed by us and satisfies the modified dispersion relation proposed by Gibbons et. al. [2]. It is interesting to note that in our formulation the momentum algebra becomes non-commutative.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking and Landau Phase Transition in Horava Gravity

Presence of higher derivative terms in the Horava model of gravity can generate an instability in the Minkowski ground state. This in turn leads to a space dependent vacuum metric with a length scale determined by the higher derivative coupling coefficient. The translation invariance is spontaneously broken in the process. The phenomenon is interpreted as a form of Landau liquid-solid phase translation. The (metric) condensate acts as a source that modifies the Newtonian potential below the length scale but keeps it unchanged for sufficiently large distance.

Thermodynamics of Photon Gas with an Invariant Energy Scale

Quantum Gravity framework motivates us to find new theories in which an observer independent finite energy upper bound (preferably Planck Energy) exists. We have studied the modifications in the thermodynamical properties of a photon gas in such a scenario where we have an invariant energy scale. We show that the density of states and the entropy in such a framework are less than the corresponding quantities in Einstein's Special Relativity (SR) theory. This result can be interpreted as a consequence of the deformed Lorentz symmetry present in the particular model we have considered.

Towards a Discrete Spacetime

A formalism is proposed to generate (the first step of) a discrete spacetime: spacetime with an inbuilt length scale. We follow the celebrated Landau theory of liquid - solid phase transition induced by Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking by a condensate whose Fourier transform has support at a {\it{non-zero}} momentum. The latter requirement is essential for breaking the translation symmetry. This, in turn, compels us to generalize Einstein action to higher derivative terms.

Generalized particle dynamics: modifying the motion of particles and branes

We construct a generalized dynamics for particles moving in a symmetric space-time, i.e. a space-time admitting one or more Killing vectors. The generalization implies that the effective mass of particles becomes dynamical. We apply this generalized dynamics to the motion of test particles in a static, spherically symmetric metric. A significant consequence of the new framework is to generate an effective negative pressure on a cosmological surface whose expansion is manifest by the particle trajectory via embedding geometry \cite{bwg,embed2,embed,pal}. This formalism thus may give rise to a source for dark energy in modeling the late accelerating universe.

Non-Minimal Quintessence With Nearly Flat Potential

We consider Brans-Dicke type nonminimally coupled scalar field as a candidate for dark energy. In the conformally transformed Einstein's frame, our model is similar to {\it coupled quintessence} model. In such models, we consider potentials for the scalar field which satisfy the slow-roll conditions: $[(1/V)(dV/dϕ)]^2 << 1$ and $(1/V)(d^2V/dϕ^2) << 1$. For such potentials, we show that the equation of state for the scalar field can be described by a universal behaviour, provided the scalar field rolls only in the flat part of the potentials where the slow-roll conditions are satisfied. Our work generalizes the previous work by Scherrer and Sen \cite{scherrer} for minimally coupled scalar field case. We have also studied the observational constraints on the model parameters considering the Supernova and BAO observational data.

Relativistic Thermodynamics with an Invariant Energy Scale

A particular framework for Quantum Gravity is the Doubly Special Relativity (DSR) formalism that introduces a new observer independent scale, the Planck energy. Our aim in this paper is to study the effects of this energy upper bound in relativistic thermodynamics. We have explicitly computed the modified equation of state for an ideal fluid in the DSR framework. In deriving our result we exploited the scheme of treating DSR as a non-linear representation of the Lorentz group in Special Relativity.

Can neutrino viscosity drive the late time cosmic acceleration?

In this paper it has been shown that the neutrino bulk viscous stresses can give rise to the late time acceleration of the universe. It is found that a number of spatially flat FRW models with a negative deceleration parameter can be constructed using neutrino viscosity and one of them mimics a $Λ$CDM model. This does not require any exotic dark energy component or any modification of gravity.

Chameleon field and the late time acceleration of the universe

In the present work, it is shown that a chameleon scalar field having a nonminimal coupling with dark matter can give rise to a smooth transition from a decelerated to an accelerated phase of expansion for the universe. It is surprising to note that the coupling with the chameleon scalar field hardly affects the evolution of the dark matter sector, which still redshifts as $a^{-3}$.
