Divergence Anomaly and Schwinger Terms: Towards a Consistent Theory of Anomalous Classical Fluid

Anomaly, a generic feature of relativistic quantum field theory, is shown to be present in non-relativistic classical ideal fluid. A new result is the presence of anomalous terms in current algebra, an obvious analogue of Schwinger terms present in quantum field theory. We work in Hamiltonian framework where Eulerian dynamical variables obey an anomalous algebra (with Schwinger terms) that is inherited from modified Poisson brackets, with Berry curvature corrections, among Lagrangian discrete coordinates. The divergence anomaly appears in the Hamiltonian equations of motion. A generalized form of fluid velocity field can be identified with the "anomalous velocity" of Bloch band electrons appearing in quantum Hall effect in condensed matter physics. We finally show that the divergence anomaly and Schwinger terms satisfy well known Adler consistency condition. Lastly we mention possible scenarios where this new anomalous fluid theory can impact.

Fermions on a torus knot

In this work, we investigate the effects of a nontrivial topology (and geometry) of a system considering \textit{interacting} and \textit{noninteracting} particle modes, which are restricted to follow a closed path over the torus surface. In order to present a prominent thermodynamical investigation of this system configuration, we carry out a detailed analysis using statistical mechanics within the grand canonical ensemble approach to deal with \textit{noninteracting} fermions. In an analytical manner, we study the following thermodynamic functions in such context: the Helmholtz free energy, the mean energy, the magnetization and the susceptibility. Further, we take into account the behavior of Fermi energy of the thermodynamic system. Finally, we briefly outline how to proceed in case of \textit{interacting} fermions.

Non-trivial time crystal-like ground state for gravitational perturbation in quadratic gravity

We consider gravitational perturbation around maximally symmetric background of a theory of gravity involving quadratic curvature correction. This leads to a decoupled model of the standard transverse, traceless graviton mode and an additional scalar degree of freedom. Evolution of the latter is governed by a Lagrangian, which depends on higher derivative terms, inherited from the quadratic curvature correction in the action. It turns out that stability of the gravitational theory allows the scalar sector to choose between possible lowest energy states (or, ground states), that can sustain periodic form of inhomogeneity, either in space or in time. The latter, with a restricted form of invariance in time translation, is possibly a variant form of the time crystal. Existence of this novel ground state, depicting a time crystal, is solely related to the presence of higher curvature terms in the action. In particular, this non-trivial condensate-like ground state describe the spacetime fabric itself by introducing fundamental scales in the theory. Possible implications are also discussed.

Quantum corrections enhance chaos: study of particle motion near a generalized Schwarzschild black hole

The paper is devoted to a detailed study of the effects of quantum corrections on the chaotic behavior in the dynamics of a (massless) probe particle near the horizon of a generalized Schwarzschild black hole. Two possible origins inducing the modification of black hole metric are considered separately; the noncommutative geometry inspired metric (suggested by Nicolini, Smailagic and Spallucci) and the metric with quantum field theoretic corrections (derived by Donoghue). Our results clearly show that in both cases, the metric extensions favour chaotic behavior, namely chaos is attained for relatively lower particle energy. This is demonstrated numerically by exhibiting the breaking of the KAM tori in Poincaré sections of particle trajectories and also via explicit computation of the (positive) Lyapunov exponents of the trajectories.

Hawking radiation in a non-covariant frame: the Jacobi metric approach

The present paper deals with a reformulation of the derivation of Hawking temperature for static and stationary black holes. In contrast to the conventional approach, where the covariant form of the metrics are used, we use the manifestly non-covariant Jacobi metric for the black holes in question. In the latter, a restricted form of Hamilton-Jacobi variational principle is exploited where the energy of the particle (pertaining to Hawking radiation) appears explicitly in the metric as a constant parameter. Our analysis shows that, as far as computation of Hawking temperature (for stationary black holes) is concerned, the Jacobi metric framework is more streamlined and yields the result with less amount of complications, (as for example, considerations of positive and negative energy modes and signature change of the metric across horizon do not play any direct role in the present analysis).

Quantum Mechanics of Particle on a torus knot: Curvature and Torsion Effects

Constraints play an important role in dynamical systems. However, the subtle effect of constraints in quantum mechanics is not very well studied. In the present work we concentrate on the quantum dynamics of a point particle moving on a non-trivial torus knot. We explicitly take into account the role of curvature and torsion, generated by the constraints that keep the particle on the knot. We exploit the "Geometry Induced Potential (GIP) approach" to construct the Schrodinger equation for the dynamical system, obtaining thereby new results in terms of particle energy eigenvalues and eigenfunctions. We compare our results with existing literature that completely ignored the contributions of curvature and torsion. In particular, we explicitly show how the "knottedness" of the path influences the results. In the process we have revealed a (possibly un-noticed) "topological invariant".

Stimulated Hawking Emission From Electromagnetic Analogue Black Hole: Theory and Observation

In this paper we consider possible analogue Hawking radiation from a normal dielectric and metamaterial composite, having an analogue horizon where the dielectric parameters vanish and change sign upon crossing this transition zone. We follow a complex path analysis to show the presence of an analogue Hawking temperature at the horizon and subsequent photon production from the ambient electromagnetic field. Possibility of experimental observation is also commented upon.

Duality Between Dirac Fermions in Curved Spacetime and Optical solitons in Non-Linear Schrodinger Model: Magic of $1+1$-Dimensional Bosonization

Bosonization in curved spacetime maps massive Thirring model (self-interacting Dirac fermions) to a generalized sine-Gordon model, both living in $1+1$-dimensional curved spacetime. Applying this duality we have shown that the Thirring model fermion, in non-relativistic limit, gets identified with the soliton of non-linear Scrodinger model with Kerr form of non-linearity. We discuss one particular optical soliton in the latter model and relate it with the Thirring model fermion.

Particle on a torus knot: a Hamiltonian analysis

We have studied the dynamics and symmetries of a particle constrained to move in a torus knot. The Hamiltonian system turns out to be Second Class in Dirac's formulation and the Dirac brackets yield novel noncommutative structures. The equations of motion are obtained for a path in general where the knot is present in the particle orbit but it is not restricted to a particular torus. We also study the motion when it is restricted to a specific torus. The rotational symmetries are studied as well. We have also considered the behavior of small fluctuations of the particle motion about a fixed torus knot.

Particle on a Torus Knot: Constrained Dynamics and Semi-Classical Quantization in a Magnetic Field

Kinematics and dynamics of a particle moving on a torus knot poses an interesting problem as a constrained system. In the first part of the paper we have derived the modified symplectic structure or Dirac brackets of the above model in Dirac's Hamiltonian framework, both in toroidal and Cartesian coordinate systems. This algebra has been used to study the dynamics, in particular small fluctuations in motion around a specific torus. The spatial symmetries of the system have also been studied. In the second part of the paper we have considered the quantum theory of a charge moving in a torus knot in the presence of a uniform magnetic field along the axis of the torus in a semiclassical quantization framework. We exploit the Einstein - Brillouin - Keller (EBK) scheme of quantization that is appropriate for multidimensional systems. Embedding of the knot on a specific torus is inherently two dimensional that gives rise to two quantization conditions. This shows that although the system, after imposing the knot condition reduces to a one dimensional system, even then it has manifest non-planar features which shows up again in the study of fractional angular momentum. Finally we compare the results obtained from EBK (multi-dimensional) and Bohr-Sommerfeld (single dimensional) schemes. The energy levels and fractional spin depend on the torus knot parameters that specifies its non-planar features. Interestingly, we show that there can be non-planar corrections to the planar anyon-like fractional spin.

Analogue White Hole Horizon and its Impact on Sediment Transport

Motivated by the ideas of analogue gravity, we have performed experiments in a flume where an analogue White Hole horizon is generated, in the form of a wave blocking region, by suitably tuned uniform fluid (water) flow and counter-propagating shallow water waves. We corroborate earlier experimental observations by finding a critical wave frequency for a particular discharge above which the waves are effectively blocked beyond the horizon. An obstacle, in the form of a bottom wave, is introduced to generate a sharp blocking zone. All previous researchers used this obstacle. A novel part of our experiment is where we do not introduce the obstacle and find that wave blocking still takes place, albeit in a more diffused zone. Lastly we replace the fixed bottom wave obstacle by a movable sand bed to study the sediment transport and the impact of the horizon or wave blocking phenomenon on the sediment profile. We find signatures of the wave blocking zone in the ripple pattern.

Hamiltonian analysis of interacting fluids

Ideal fluid dynamics is studied as a relativistic field theory with particular importance on its hamiltonian structure. The Schwinger condition, whose integrated version yields the stress tensor conservation, is explicitly verified both in equal-time and light-cone coordinate systems. We also consider the hamiltonian formulation of fluids interacting with an external gauge field. The complementary roles of the canonical(Noether) stress tensor and the symmetric one obtained by metric variation are discussed. Finally, a non-relativistic reduction of the system in light-cone coordinates has been carried out which reproduces results found earlier in the literature.

Noncommutative Extension of AdS-CFT and Holographic Superconductors

In this Letter, we consider a Non-Commutative (NC) extension of AdS-CFT correspondence and its effects on holographic superconductors. NC corrections are incorporated via the NC generalization of Schwarzschild black hole metric in AdS with the probe limit. We study NC effects on the relations connecting the charge density and the critical temperature of the Holographic Superconductors. Furthermore, condensation operator of the superconductor has been analyzed. Our results suggest that generically, NC effects increase the critical temperature of the holographic superconductor.

Conformal Invariance in noncommutative geometry and mutually interacting Snyder Particles

A system of relativistic Snyder particles with mutual two-body interaction that lives in a Non-Commutative Snyder geometry is studied. The underlying novel symplectic structure is a coupled and extended version of (single particle) Snyder algebra. In a recent work by Casalbuoni and Gomis, Phys.Rev. D90, 026001 (2014), a system of interacting conventional particles (in commutative spacetime) was studied with special emphasis on it's Conformal Invariance. Proceeding along the same lines we have shown that our interacting Snyder particle model is also conformally invariant. Moreover, the conformal Killing vectors have been constructed. Our main emphasis is on the Hamiltonian analysis of the conformal symmetry generators. We demonstrate that the Lorentz algebra remains undeformed but validity of the full conformal algebra requires further restrictions.

Effects of a Maximal Energy Scale in Thermodynamics for Photon Gas and Construction of Path Integral

In this article, we discuss some well-known theoretical models where an observer-independent energy scale or a length scale is present. The presence of this invariant scale necessarily deforms the Lorentz symmetry. We study different aspects and features of such theories about how modifications arise due to this cutoff scale. First we study the formulation of energy-momentum tensor for a perfect fluid in doubly special relativity (DSR), where an energy scale is present. Then we go on to study modifications in thermodynamic properties of photon gas in DSR. Finally we discuss some models with generalized uncertainty principle (GUP).

Electrodynamics of a Generalized Charged Particle in Doubly Special Relativity Framework

In the present paper, dynamics of generalized charged particles are studied in the presence of external electromagnetic interactions. This particular extension of the free relativistic particle model lives in Non-Commutative $κ$-Minkowski space-time, compatible with Doubly Special Relativity, that is motivated to describe Quantum Gravity effects. Furthermore we have also considered the electromagnetic field to be dynamical and have derived the modified forms of Lienard-Wiechert like potentials for these extended charged particle models. In all the above cases we exploit the new and extended form of $κ$-Minkowski algebra where electromagnetic effects are incorporated in the lowest order, in the Dirac framework of Hamiltonian constraint analysis.

Spontaneous Generation of a Crystalline Ground State in a Higher Derivative Theory

The possibility of Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking in momentum space in a generic Lifshitz scalar model - a non-relativistic scalar field theory with higher spatial derivative terms - has been studied. We show that the minimum energy state, the ground state, has a lattice structure, where the translation invariance of the continuum theory is reduced to a discrete translation symmetry. The scale of translation symmetry breaking (or induced lattice spacing) is proportional to the inverse of the momentum of the condensate particle. The crystalline ground state is stable under excitations below a certain critical velocity. The small fluctuations above the ground state can have a phonon like dispersion under suitable choice of parameters. At the beginning we have discussed the effects of next to nearest neighbour interaction terms in a model of linear triatomic molecule depicted by a linear system of three particles of same mass connected by identical springs. This model is relevant since in the continuum limit the next to nearest neighbour interaction terms generate higher (spatial) derivative wave equation, the main topic of this paper.

GUP-based and Snyder Non-Commutative Algebras, Relativistic Particle models and Deformed Symmetries: A Unified Approach

We have developed a unified scheme for studying Non-Commutative algebras based on Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP) and Snyder form in a relativistically covariant point particle Lagrangian (or symplectic) framework. Even though the GUP based algebra and Snyder algebra are very distinct, the more involved latter algebra emerges from an approximation of the Lagrangian model of the former algebra. Deformed Poincare generators for the systems that keep space-time symmetries of the relativistic particle models have been studied thoroughly. From a purely constrained dynamical analysis perspective the models studied here are very rich and provide insights on how to consistently construct approximate models from the exact ones when non-linear constraints are present in the system. We also study dynamics of the GUP particle in presence of external electromagnetic field.

Inertial spin Hall effect in noncommutative space

In the present paper the study of inertial spin current(that appears in an accelerated frame of reference) is extended to Non-Commutative (NC) space. The $θ$-dependence, ($θ$ being the NC parameter), of the inertial spin current is derived explicitly. We have provided yet another way of experimentally measuring $θ$. Our bound on $θ$ matches with previous results. In Hamiltonian framework, the Dirac Hamiltonian in an accelerating frame is computed in the low energy regime by exploiting the Foldy-Wouthuysen scheme. The NC $θ$-effect appears from the replacement of normal products and commutators by Moyal *-products and *-commutators. In particular, the commutator between the external magnetic vector potential and the potential induced by acceleration becomes non-trivial. Expressions for $θ$-corrected inertial spin current and conductivity are derived. The $θ$ bound is obtained from the out of plane spin polarization, which is experimentally observable.

On the Stability of Coherent States for Pais-Uhlenbeck Oscillator

We have constructed coherent states for the higher derivative Pais-Uhlenbeck Oscillator. In the process we have suggested a novel way to construct coherent states for the oscillator having only negative energy levels. These coherent states have negative energies in general but their coordinate and momentum expectation values and dispersions behave in an identical manner as that of normal (positive energy) oscillator. The coherent states for the Pais-Uhlenbeck Oscillator have constant dispersions and a modified Heisenberg Uncertainty Relation. Moreover, under reasonable assumptions on parameters these coherent states can have positive energies.

Quantum Gravity Effects in Geodesic Motion and Predictions of Equivalence Principle Violation

We show that the Equivalence Principle (EP) is violated by Quantum Gravity (QG) effects. The predicted violations are compared to experimental observations for Gravitational Redshift, Law of Reciprocal Action and Universality of Free Fall. This allows us to derive explicit bounds for $β$ - the QG scale. In our approach, there appears a deviation in the geodesic motion of a particle. This deviation is induced by a non-commutative spacetime, consistent with a Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). GUP admits the presence of a minimum length scale, that is advocated by QG theories. Remarkably, the GUP induced corrections are quite robust since the bound on $β$ obtained by us, {\it{in General Relativity scenario in an essentially classical setting}} of modified geodesic motion, is closely comparable to similar bounds in recent literature \cite{vag}. The latter are computed in purely {\it{quantum}} physics domain in {\it{flat}} spacetime.

Spontaneous Photoemission From Metamaterial Junction: A Conjecture

The possibility of spontaneous photon pair emission from a normal material - metamaterial junction is investigated in a quantum field theory setting. We consider a pair of photons arising from vacuum fluctuations of the electromagnetic field close to the junction where one photon each comes from the normal and metamaterial sectors. Mixing between the positive and negative norm photon modes can give rise to spontaneous photoemission, the rate of which is calculated.

"Stringy" Coherent States Inspired By Generalized Uncertainty Principle

In this Letter we have explicitly constructed Generalized Coherent States for the Non-Commutative Harmonic Oscillator that directly satisfy the Generalized Uncertainty Principle (GUP). Our results have a smooth commutative limit. The states show fractional revival which provides an independent bound on the GUP parameter. Using this and similar bounds we derive the largest possible value of the (GUP induced) minimum length scale. Mandel parameter analysis shows that the statistics is Sub-Poissionian.

Black Hole Entropy: From Shannon to Bekenstein

In this note we have applied directly the Shannon formula for information theory entropy to derive the Black Hole (Bekenstein-Hawking) entropy. Our analysis is semi-classical in nature since we use the (recently proposed [8]) quantum mechanical near horizon mode functions to compute the tunneling probability that goes in to the Shannon formula, following the general idea of [5]. Our framework conforms to the information theoretic origin of Black Hole entropy, as originally proposed by Bekenstein.

Coherent States for the Non-Linear Harmonic Oscillator

Wave packets for the Quantum Non-Linear Oscillator are considered in the Generalized Coherent State framerwork. To first order in the non-linearity parameter the Coherent State behaves very similarly to its classical counterpart. The position expectation value oscillates in a simple harmonic manner. The energy-momentum uncertainty relation is time independent as in a harmonic oscillator. Various features, (such as the Squeezed State nature), of the Coherent State have been discussed.

Constrained Dynamics of an Anomalous $(g/neq 2)$ Relativistic Spinning Particle in Electromagnetic Background

In this paper we have considered the dynamics of an anomalous ($g\neq 2$) charged relativistic spinning particle in the presence of an external electromagnetic field. The constraint analysis is done and the complete set of Dirac brackets are provided that generate the canonical Lorentz algebra and dynamics through Hamiltonian equations of motion. The spin-induced effective curvature of spacetime and its possible connection with Analogue Gravity models are commented upon.

Gauge Invariant Extension of Linearized Horava Gravity

In the present paper we have constructed a gauge invariant extension of a generic Horava Gravity (HG) model (with quadratic curvature terms) in linearized version in a systematic procedure. No additional fields are introduced. The linearized HG model is explicitly shown to be a gauge fixed version of the Einstein Gravity (EG) thus proving the Bellorin-Restuccia conjecture in a robust way. In the process we have explicitly computed the correct Hamiltonian dynamics using Dirac Brackets appearing from the Second Class Constraints present in the HG model. We comment on applying this scheme to the full non-linear HG.

Generalized particle dynamics in anti de Sitter spaces: A source for dark energy

We consider the generalized particle dynamics, proposed by us, in brane world formalisms for an asymptotically anti de Sitter background. The present framework results in a new model that accounts for the late acceleration of the universe. An effective Dark Energy equation of state, exhibiting a phantom like behaviour, is generated. The model is derived by embedding the physical FRW universe in a $(4+1)$-dimensional effective space-time, induced by the generalized particle dynamics. We corroborate our results with present day observed cosmological parameters.

Noncommutative Spacetime in Very Special Relativity

Very Special Relativity (VSR) framework, proposed by Cohen and Glashow [1], demonstrated that a proper subgroup of the Poincaré group, (in particular ISIM(2)), is sufficient to describe the spacetime symmetries of the so far observed physical phenomena. Subsequently a deformation of the latter, $DISIM_b(2)$, was suggested by Gibbons, Gomis and Pope [2]. In the present work, we introduce a novel Non-Commutative (NC) spacetime structure, underlying the $DISIM_b(2)$. This allows us to construct explicitly the $DISIM_b(2)$ generators, consisting of a sector of Lorentz rotation generators and the translation generators. Exploiting the Darboux map technique, we construct a point particle Lagrangian that lives in the NC phase space proposed by us and satisfies the modified dispersion relation proposed by Gibbons et. al. [2]. It is interesting to note that in our formulation the momentum algebra becomes non-commutative.

Planck Scale Effect in the Entropic Force Law

In this note we generalize the quantum uncertainty relation proposed by Vancea and Santos [7] in the entropic force law, by introducing Planck scale modifications. The latter is induced by the Generalized Uncertainty Principle. We show that the proposed uncertainty relation of [7], involving the entropic force and the square of particle position, gets modified from the consideration of a minimum measurable length, (which can be the Planck length).

Quantum mechanics in de Sitter space

We consider some possible phenomenological implications of the extended uncertainty principle, which is believed to hold for quantum mechanics in de Sitter spacetime. The relative size of the corrections to the standard results is however of the order of the ratio between the length scale of the quantum mechanical system and the de Sitter radius, and therefore exceedingly small. Nevertheless, the existence of effects due to the large scale curvature of spacetime in atomic experiments has a theoretical relevance.

Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking and Landau Phase Transition in Horava Gravity

Presence of higher derivative terms in the Horava model of gravity can generate an instability in the Minkowski ground state. This in turn leads to a space dependent vacuum metric with a length scale determined by the higher derivative coupling coefficient. The translation invariance is spontaneously broken in the process. The phenomenon is interpreted as a form of Landau liquid-solid phase translation. The (metric) condensate acts as a source that modifies the Newtonian potential below the length scale but keeps it unchanged for sufficiently large distance.

Towards a Discrete Spacetime

A formalism is proposed to generate (the first step of) a discrete spacetime: spacetime with an inbuilt length scale. We follow the celebrated Landau theory of liquid - solid phase transition induced by Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking by a condensate whose Fourier transform has support at a {\it{non-zero}} momentum. The latter requirement is essential for breaking the translation symmetry. This, in turn, compels us to generalize Einstein action to higher derivative terms.

Combining The Tunneling And Anomaly Phenomena In Deriving the Gravitational Anomaly

In this Letter we have derived the gravitational anomaly leading to the Hawking radiation from a fundamentally different perspective: it emerges due to the {\it{complimentary}} roles played by tunneling and (gravitational) anomaly. We have used the analogy of an early idea \cite{niel1} of visualizing chiral gauge anomaly as an effect of {\it{spectral flow}} of the energy levels, from the negative energy Dirac sea, across zero energy level in presence of gauge interactions. This was extended to conformal anomaly in \cite{fumita}. In the present work, we exploit the latter formalism in black hole physics where we interpret crossing the horizon of black hole (the zero energy level) as a spectral flow since it is also accompanied by a change of sign in the energy of the particle. Hence in our formulation the negative energy states below horizon play a similar role as the Dirac sea. We successfully recover the gravitational anomaly.

Generalized particle dynamics: modifying the motion of particles and branes

We construct a generalized dynamics for particles moving in a symmetric space-time, i.e. a space-time admitting one or more Killing vectors. The generalization implies that the effective mass of particles becomes dynamical. We apply this generalized dynamics to the motion of test particles in a static, spherically symmetric metric. A significant consequence of the new framework is to generate an effective negative pressure on a cosmological surface whose expansion is manifest by the particle trajectory via embedding geometry \cite{bwg,embed2,embed,pal}. This formalism thus may give rise to a source for dark energy in modeling the late accelerating universe.

Relativistic Thermodynamics with an Invariant Energy Scale

A particular framework for Quantum Gravity is the Doubly Special Relativity (DSR) formalism that introduces a new observer independent scale, the Planck energy. Our aim in this paper is to study the effects of this energy upper bound in relativistic thermodynamics. We have explicitly computed the modified equation of state for an ideal fluid in the DSR framework. In deriving our result we exploited the scheme of treating DSR as a non-linear representation of the Lorentz group in Special Relativity.

DSR Relativistic Particle in a Lagrangian formulation and Non-Commutative Spacetime: A Gauge Independent Analysis

In this paper we have constructed a coordinate space (or geometric) Lagrangian for a point particle that satisfies the Doubly Special Relativity (DSR) dispersion relation in the Magueijo-Smolin framework. At the same time, the symplectic structure induces a Non-Commutative phase space, which interpolates between $κ$-Minkowski and Snyder phase space. Hence this model bridges an existing gap between two conceptually distinct ideas in a natural way. We thoroughly discuss how this type of construction can be carried out from a phase space (or first order) Lagrangian approach. The inclusion of external physical interactions are also briefly outlined. The work serves as a demonstration of how Hamiltonian (and Lagrangian) dynamics can be built around a given non-trivial symplectic structure.

$κ$-Minkowski Spacetime Through Exotic "Oscillator"

We have proposed a generally covariant non-relativistic particle model that can represent the $κ$-Minkowski noncommutative spacetime. The idea is similar in spirit to the noncommutative particle coordinates in the lowest Landau level. Physically our model yields a novel type of dynamical system, (termed here as Exotic "Oscillator"), that obeys a Harmonic Oscillator like equation of motion with a {\it{frequency}} that is proportional to the square root of {\it{energy}}. On the other hand, the phase diagram does not reveal a closed structure since there is a singularity in the momentum even though energy remains finite. The generally covariant form is related to a generalization of the Snyder algebra in a specific gauge and yields the $κ$-Minkowski spacetime after a redefinition of the variables. Symmetry considerations are also briefly discussed in the Hamiltonian formulation. Regarding continuous symmetry, the angular momentum acts properly as the generator of rotation. Interestingly, both the discrete symmetries, parity and time reversal, remain intact in the $κ$-Minkowski spacetime.

Lie Particle And Its Batalin-Tyutin Extension

In this Letter we have proposed a point particle model that generates a noncommutative three-space, with the coordinate brackets being Lie algebraic in nature, in particular isomorphic to the angular momentum algebra. The work is in the spirit of our earlier works in this connection, {\it {i.e.}} PLB 618 (2005)243 and PLB 623 (2005)251, where the $κ$-Minkowski form of noncomutative spacetime was considered. This non-linear and operatorial nature of the configuration space coordinate algebra can pose problems regarding its quantization. This prompts us to embed the model in the Batalin-Tyutin extended space where the equivalent model comprises of phase space variables satisfying a canonical algebra. We also compare our present model with the point particle model, previously proposed by us, in the context of $κ$-Minkowski spacetime.

The $AdS$ particle

In this note we have considered a relativistic Nambu-Goto model for a particle in $AdS$ metric. With appropriate gauge choice to fix the reparameterization invariance, we recover the previously discussed \cite{pal} "Exotic Oscillator". The Snyder algebra and subsequently the $κ$-Minkowski spacetime are also derived. Lastly we comment on the impossibility of constructing a noncommutative spacetime in the context of open string where only a curved target space is introduced.

Maxwell-Chern-Simons Theory is Free for Marginally Noncommutative Spacetimes

We have conclusively established the duality between noncommutative Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory and Self-Dual model, the latter in ordinary spacetime, to the first non-trivial order in the noncommutativity parameter $θ^{μν}$, with $θ^{0i}=0$. This shows that the former theory is free for marginally noncommutative spacetimes. A $θ$-generalized covariant mapping between the variables of the two models in question has been derived explicitly, that converts one model to the other, including the symplectic structure and action.

A New Interpretation of the Seiberg Witten Map

In an alternative interpretation, the Seiberg-Witten map is shown to be induced by a field dependent co-ordinate transformation connecting noncommutative and ordinary space-times. Furthermore, following our previous ideas, it has been demonstrated here that the above (field dependent co-ordinate) transformation can occur naturally in the Batalin-Tyutin extended space version of the relativistic spinning particle model, (in a particular gauge). There is no need to postulate the space-time non-commutativity in an {\it ad hoc} way: It emerges from the spin degrees of freedom.

Energy Crisis or a New Soliton in the Noncommutative CP(1) Model?

The Non-Commutative (NC) CP(1) model is studied from field theory perspective. Our formalism and definition of the NC CP(1) model differs crucially from the existing one \cite{nccp}. Due to the U(1) gauge invariance, the Seiberg-Witten map is used to convert the NC action to an action in terms of ordinary spacetime degrees of freedom and the subsequent theory is studied. The NC effects appear as (NC parameter) $θ$-dependent interaction terms. The expressions for static energy, obtained from both the symmetric and canonical forms of the energy momentum tensor, are {\it {identical}}, when only spatial noncommutativity is present. Bogomolny analysis reveals a lower bound in the energy in an unambiguous way, suggesting the presence of a new soliton. However, the BPS equations saturating the bound are not compatible to the full variational equation of motion. This indicates that the definitions of the energy momentum tensor for this particular NC theory, (the NC theory is otherwise consistent and well defined), are inadequate, thus leading to the "energy crisis". A collective coordinate analysis corroborates the above observations. It also shows that the above mentioned mismatch between the BPS equations and the variational equation of motion is small.

Soldering Formalism in Noncommutative Field Theory: A Brief Note

In this paper, I develop the Soldering formalism in a new domain - the noncommutative planar field theories. The Soldering mechanism fuses two distinct theories showing opposite or complimentary properties of some symmetry, taking into account the interference effects. The above mentioned symmetry is hidden in the composite (or soldered) theory. In the present work it is shown that a pair of noncommutative Maxwell-Chern-Simons theories, having opposite signs in their respective topological terms, can be consistently soldered to yield the Proca model (Maxwell theory with a mass term) with corrections that are at least quadratic in the noncommutativity parameter. We further argue that this model can be thought of as the noncommutative generalization of the Proca theory of ordinary spacetime. It is well-known that abelian noncommutative gauge theory bears a close structural similarity with non-abelian gauge theory. This fact is manifested in a non-trivial way if the present work is compared with existing literature, where soldering of non-abelian models are discussed. Thus the present work further establishes the robustness of the soldering programme. The subtle role played by gauge invariance, (or the lack of it), in the above soldering process, is revealed in an interesting way.

Seiberg Witten Map and the Axial Anomaly in Noncommutative Field Theory

Using the point-splitting regularisation, we calculate the axial anomaly in an arbitrary even dimensional Non-Commutative (NC) field theory. Our result is (star) gauge invariant in its {\it unintegrated} form, to the leading order in the NC parameter. Exploiting the Seiberg Witten map, this result gets transformed to the familiar Adler-Bell-Jackiw anomaly in ordinary space-time. Furthermore, using this map, we derive an expression for the unintegrated axial anomaly for constant fields in NC space-time, that is valid to all finite orders of the NC parameter.

Batalin-Tyutin Quantisation of the Spinning Particle Model

The Spinning Particle Model for anyon is analysed in the Batalin-Tyutin scheme of quantisation in extended phase space. Here additional degrees of freedom are introduced in the phase space such that all the constraints in the theory are rendered First Class that is commuting in the sense of Poisson Brackets. Thus the theory can be studied without introducing the Dirac Brackets which appear in the presence of non-commuting or Second Class constraints. In the present case the Dirac Brackets make the configuration space of the anyon non-canonical and also being dynamical variable dependent, poses problems for the quantisation programme. We show that previously obtained results, (e.g. gyromagnetic ratio of anyon being 2), are recovered in the Batalin-Tyutin variable independent sector in the extended space. The Batalin-Tyutin variable contributions are significant and are computable in a straightforward manner. The latter can beunderstood as manifestations of the non-commutative space-time in the enlarged phase space.

Bosonisation Excercise in Three Dimensions: Gauged Massive Thirring Model

Bosonisation of the massive Thirring model, with a non-minimal and non-abelian gauging is studied in 2+1-dimensions. The static abelian model is solved completely in the large fermion mass limit and the spectrum is obtained. The non-abelian model is solved for a restricted class of gauge fields. In both cases explicit expressions for bosonic currents corresponding to the fermion currents are given.
