Applications of a duality between generalized trigonometric and hyperbolic functions II

Generalized trigonometric functions and generalized hyperbolic functions can be converted to each other by the duality formulas previously discovered by the authors. In this paper, we apply the duality formulas to prove dual pairs of Wilker-type inequalities, Huygens-type inequalities, and (relaxed) Cusa-Huygens-type inequalities for the generalized functions. In addition, multiple- and double-angle formulas not previously obtained are also given.

Josephson junction formed in the wormhole space time from the analysis for the critical temperature of Bose-Einstein condensate

In this study, considering some gas in the Morris-Thorne traversable wormhole space time, we analyze the critical temperature of the Bose-Einstein condensate in the vicinity of its throat. As a result, we obtain the result that it is zero. Then, from this result, we point out that an analogous state to the Josephson junction is always formed at any temperatures in the vicinity of its throat. This would be interesting as a gravitational phenomenology.

Numerical and analytical analyses of a matrix model with non-pairwise contracted indices

We study a matrix model that has $ϕ_a^i\ (a=1,2,\ldots,N,\ i=1,2,\ldots,R)$ as its dynamical variable, whose lower indices are pairwise contracted, but upper ones are not always done so. This matrix model has a motivation from a tensor model for quantum gravity, and is also related to the physics of glasses, because it has the same form as what appears in the replica trick of the spherical $p$-spin model for spin glasses, though the parameter range of our interest is different. To study the dynamics, which in general depends on $N$ and $R$, we perform Monte Carlo simulations and compare with some analytical computations in the leading and the next-leading orders. A transition region has been found around $R\sim N^2/2$, which matches a relation required by the consistency of the tensor model. The simulation and the analytical computations agree well outside the transition region, but not in this region, implying that some relevant configurations are not properly included by the analytical computations. With a motivation coming from the tensor model, we also study the persistent homology of the configurations generated in the simulations, and have observed its gradual change from $S^1$ to higher dimensional cycles with the increase of $R$ around the transition region.

Remarkable properties of the $\text{sinc}_{p, q}$ functions and related integrals

Different types of sinc integrals are investigated when the standard sine function is replaced by the generalised $\sin_{p,q}$ in two parameters. A striking generalisation of the improper Dirichlet integral is achieved. A second surprising but interesting generalisation of the identity between the Dirichlet integral and that of the integrand $\text{sinc}^2$ is discovered. Moreover, an asymptotically sharpened form of Ball's integral inequality is obtained in terms of two parameters.

Applications of generalized trigonometric functions with two parameters II

Generalized trigonometric functions (GTFs) are simple generalization of the classical trigonometric functions. GTFs are deeply related to the $p$-Laplacian, which is known as a typical nonlinear differential operator. Compared to GTFs with one parameter, there are few applications of GTFs with two parameters to differential equations. We will apply GTFs with two parameters to studies on the inviscid primitive equations of oceanic and atmospheric dynamics, new formulas of Gaussian hypergeometric functions, and the $L^q$-Lyapunov inequality for the one-dimensional $p$-Laplacian.

Violation of the KSS Bound in Holographic Bjorken-Flow

In a system with a Bjorken-flow (BF), considering the inside of a BF as a subsystem for the reason explained in the body text, we compute entanglement entropy appearing in our side holographically . BF consists of many concentrically scattering quark-gluon plasmas created by colliding two masses of hadrons. Our BF is defined in the boundary space in an asymptoticly five-dimensional Anti de-Sitter space with a growing Schwartzshild black hole. %, where its Hawking temperature diminishes with time. In our analysis we can get a parameter prescribing our bulk space-time in terms of the boundary QCD's variables. Using this, we find that the $η/s$ dips from $1/4π$ just for a moment before asymptoting to $1/4π$ at infinitely large time. Since $1/4π$ is the KSS bound, this result is intriguing as an example of violation of the KSS bound.

Hawking fluxes and Anomalies in Rotating Regular Black Holes with a Time-Delay

Based on the anomaly cancellation method we are going to compute the Hawking fluxes (the Hawking thermal flux and the total flux of energy-momentum tensor) from a four-dimensional rotating regular black hole with a time-delay. To this purpose, in the three metrics proposed in arXiv:1510.08828, we try to perform the dimensional reduction in which the anomaly cancellation method is feasible at the near-horizon region in a general scalar field theory. As a result we can demonstrate that the dimensional reduction is possible in two of those metrics. Hence we perform the anomaly cancellation method and compute the Hawking fluxes in those two metrics. Our Hawking fluxes involve the three effects: 1) the quantum gravity effect regularizing the core of the black holes, 2) rotation of the black hole, 3) the time-delay. Further in this paper toward the metric in which the dimensional could not be performed, we argue that it would be some problematic metric, and mention its cause. The Hawking fluxes we compute in this study could be considered to correspond to more realistic Hawking fluxes. Further what Hawking fluxes can be obtained from the anomaly cancellation method would be interesting in terms of the relation between a consistency of quantum field theories and black hole thermodynamics.

Unruh effect in a real scalar field with the Higgs type potential on the de Sitter space

It has been predicted that an accelerating electron performs a Brownian motion in the inertial frame. This Brownian motion in the inertial frame has its roots in the interaction with the thermal excitation given by the Unruh effect in the accelerating frame. If such a prediction is possible, we correspondingly propose a prediction in this study that the thermal radiation appears in the inertial frame from an electron heated by the Unruh effect in the accelerating frame. The point in our prediction is, although the Unruh effect is only in the accelerating frame, if the appearance of the Brownian motion rooted in the Unruh effect in the inertial frame can be predicted, the heat that the particle gets in its body by the Unruh effect in the accelerating frame could survive in the inertial frame. Based on such a prediction, in this paper we investigate phenomena in the neighborhood of an accelerating electron in the inertial frame. The model we consider is the four-dimensional Klein-Gordon real scalar field model with the Higgs type potential term at the finite temperature identified with the Unruh temperature on the de Sitter space-time. We calculate the one-loop effective potential in the inertial frame with the corrections by the thermal radiation rooted in the Unruh effect in the accelerating frame. In this calculation, we take into account that the background space-time is deformed due to the field theory's corrected one-loop effective potential. Based on such an analysis, we illustrate the restoration of the spontaneous symmetry breaking and the variation of the background space-time, and we examine the accelerating particle's world-line and the amount of the energy corresponding to the change of the acceleration.

Hagedorn Instability in Dimensionally Reduced Large-N Gauge Theories as Gregory-Laflamme and Rayleigh-Plateau Instabilities

It is expected that the Gregory-Laflamme (GL) instability in the black string in gravity is related to the Rayleigh-Plateau instability in fluid mechanics. Especially, the orders of the phase transitions associated with these instabilities depend on the number of the transverse space dimensions, and they are of first and second order below and above the critical dimension. Through the gauge-gravity correspondence, the GL instability is conjectured to be thermodynamically related to the Hagedorn instability in large-N gauge theories, and it leads to a prediction that the order of the confinement-deconfinement transition associated with the Hagedorn instability may depend on the transverse dimension. We test this conjecture in the D-dimensional bosonic D0-brane model using numerical simulation and the 1/D expansion, and confirm the expected D dependence.

Hydrodynamics and transport coefficients in an infrared-deformed soft-wall AdS/QCD model at finite temperature

We extend an infrared-deformed soft-wall anti de-Sitter/QCD model at zero temperature to a model at finite temperature and perform hydrodynamics. To have the infalling boundary condition to make the hydrodynamic analysis possible, we treat the infrared energy scale factor in our metric as a temperature-depending parameter. Then, by carrying out the hydrodynamic analysis, we compute the transport coefficients, the diffusion constant, and the shear viscosity, through the linear response theory.

The basis property of generalized Jacobian elliptic functions

The Jacobian elliptic functions are generalized to functions including the generalized trigonometric functions. The paper deals with the basis property of the sequence of generalized Jacobian elliptic functions in any Lebesgue space. In particular, it is shown that the sequence of the classical Jacobian elliptic functions is a basis in any Lebesgue space if the modulus $k$ satisfies $0 \le k \le 0.99$.

Holographic SIS Josephson Junction

We construct a holographic model for the superconductor-insulator-superconductor (SIS) Josephson junction at zero temperature by considering a complex scalar field coupled with a Maxwell field in the four-dimensional anti-de Sitter soliton background. From the gravity side we reproduce the sine relation between the Josephson current and the phase difference across the junction. We also study the dependence of the maximal current on the dimension of the condensate operator and on the width of the junction, and obtain expected results.

Modulated Instability in Five-Dimensional U(1) Charged AdS Black Hole with R**2-term

We study the effect of R**2 term to the modulated instability in the U(1) charged black hole in five-dimensional Anti-de Sitter space-time. We consider the first-order corrections of R**2 term to the background and the linear order perturbations in the equations of motion. From the analysis, we clarify the effect of R**2 term in the modulated instability, and conclude that fluctuations are stable in the whole bulk in the range of values the coefficient of R**2 term can take.

New States of Gauge Theories on a Circle

We study a one-dimensional large-N U(N) gauge theory on a circle as a toy model of higher dimensional Yang-Mills theories at finite temperature. To investigate the profile of the thermodynamical potential in this model, we evaluate a stochastic time evolution of several states, and find that an unstable confinement phase at high temperature does not decay to a stable deconfinement phase directly. Before it reaches the deconfinement phase, it develops to several intermediate states. These states are characterised by the expectation values of the Polyakov loop operators, which wind the temporal circle different times. We reveal that these intermediate states are the saddle point solutions of the theory, and similar solutions exist in a wide class of SU(N) and U(N) gauge theories on S^1 including QCD and pure Yang-Mills theories in various dimensions. We also consider a Kaluza-Klein gravity, which is the gravity dual of the one-dimensional gauge theory on a spatial S^1, and show that these solutions may be related to multi black holes localised on the S^1. Then we present a connection between the stochastic time evolution of the gauge theory and the dynamical decay process of a black string though the Gregory-Laflamme instability.

Thermal Mass Spectra of Vector and Axial-Vector Mesons in Predictive Soft-Wall AdS/QCD Model

We extend the predictive soft-wall AdS/QCD model to a thermodynamic model by considering the black hole metric. A modified bulk vacuum expectation value and a modified coefficient for the quartic term in the bulk scalar potential are introduced to obtain a smooth dilaton solution for computing the spectral functions of the vector and axial-vector mesons. It is demonstrated that the peaks appearing in the spectral functions characterize the thermal mass spectra of vector and axial-vector mesons, where the location of the peak moves to a lower value and the width of the peak becomes wider when increasing the temperature. We observe that the peak disappears completely at the critical temperature around $T_c=200$ MeV, which implies the deconfinement of quark and the restoration of chiral symmetry breaking. A numerical study by fitting the spectral function in terms of the Breit-Wigner form has been made to show how the peak dissolves quantitatively when the temperature is increased to the critical point.

Quark Number Susceptibility and QCD Phase Transition in the Predictive Soft-wall AdS/QCD Model with Finite Temperature

Based on the infrared improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model which can lead to a consistent prediction for the mass spectra of light resonance mesons, we extend it to the finite temperature system and carry out the calculation for the quark number susceptibility with finite quark mass. As a consequence, we show that the quark number susceptibility grows rapidly with a continuous blow-up in a narrow temperature interval as the temperature increases, and there is a peak when the temperature is around $T \simeq 160 \sim 190$ MeV depending slightly on the models, the resulting critical temperature is about 170MeV, which agrees remarkably with the lattice QCD calculation.

Quark Number Susceptibility with Finite Quark Mass in Holographic QCD

We study the effect of a finite quark mass on the quark number susceptibility in the framework of holographic QCD. We work in a bottom-up model with a deformed AdS black hole and D3/D7 model to calculate the quark number susceptibility at finite temperature with/without a finite quark chemical potential. As expected the finite quark mass suppresses the quark number susceptibility. We find that at high temperatures $T\ge 600$ MeV the quark number susceptibility of light quarks and heavy quarks are almost equal in the bottom-up model. This indicates that the heavy quark like charm contribution to thermodynamics of a QCD-like system may start to become significant at temperatures $T\sim 600$ MeV. In D3/D7 model, we focus on the competition between the quark chemical potential, which enhances the quark number susceptibility, and the quark mass that suppresses the susceptibility. We observe that depending on the relative values of the quark mass and the quark chemical potential, the quark number susceptibility shows a diverging or converging behavior. We also calculate the chiral susceptibility in D3/D7 model to support the observation made with the quark number susceptibility.

Coincidence sets in quasilinear elliptic problems of monostable type

This paper concerns the formation of a coincidence set for the positive solution of $p$-Laplacian elliptic problems of monostable type. It is proved that for any small parameter of diffusion term, the solution coincides with the stable zero-function $a(x)$ of reaction term in an open set if $a(x)$ is $p$-harmonic (but, not constant) and a zero of order less than 1. Inversely, it is also shown that the solution is less than $a(x)$ if $a(x)$ is a zero of order greater than or equal to 1. The proof rely on comparison theorems and an energy method for obtaining local comaprison functions.

Magnetic conductivity and Chern-Simons Term in Holographic Hydrodynamics of Charged AdS Black Hole

We study the effects of the Chern-Simons term in the hydrodynamics of the five-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom-AdS background. We work out the decoupling problem of the equations of motion and calculate the retarded Green functions explicitly. We then find that the Chern-Simons term induces the magnetic conductivity caused by the anomaly effect. It is increasing function of temperature running from a non-zero value at zero temperature to the twice the value at infinite temperature.

Quark Number Susceptibility with Finite Chemical Potential in Holographic QCD

We study the quark number susceptibility in holographic QCD with a finite chemical potential or under an external magnetic field at finite temperature. We first consider the quark number susceptibility with the chemical potential. We observe that approaching the critical temperature from high temperature regime, the quark number susceptibility divided by temperature square develops a peak as we increase the chemical potential, which confirms recent lattice QCD results. We discuss this behavior in connection with the existence of the critical end point in the QCD phase diagram. We also consider the quark number susceptibility under the external magnetic field. We predict that the quark number susceptibility exhibits a blow-up behavior at low temperature as we raise the value of the magnetic field. We finally spell out some limitations of our study.

Putting M theory on a computer

We propose a non-lattice simulation for studying supersymmetric matrix quantum mechanics in a non-perturbative manner. In particular, our method enables us to put M theory on a computer based on its matrix formulation proposed by Banks, Fischler, Shenker and Susskind. Here we present Monte Carlo results of the same matrix model but in a different parameter region, which corresponds to the 't Hooft large-N limit at finite temperature. In the strong coupling limit the model has a dual description in terms of the N D0-brane solution in 10d type IIA supergravity. Our results provide highly nontrivial evidences for the conjectured duality. In particular, the energy (and hence the entropy) of the non-extremal black hole has been reproduced by solving directly the strongly coupled dynamics of the D0-brane effective theory.
