Dark Matter Production in Weyl $R^2$ Inflation

Dark matter and inflation are two key elements to understand the origin of cosmic structures in modern cosmology, and yet their exact physical models remain largely uncertain. The Weyl scaling invariant theory of gravity may provide a feasible scheme to solve these two puzzles jointly, which contains a massive gauge boson playing the role of dark matter candidate, and allows the quadratic scalar curvature term, namely $R^2$, to realize a viable inflationary mechanism in agreement with current observations. We ponder on the production of dark matters in the Weyl $R^2$ model, including the contribution from the non-perturbative production due to the quantum fluctuations from inflationary vacuum and perturbative ones from scattering. We demonstrate that there are generally three parameter ranges for viable dark matter production: (1) If the reheating temperature is larger than $10^3~\mathrm{GeV}$, the Weyl gauge boson as dark matter can be produced abundantly with mass larger than the inflation scale $\sim 10^{13}~\mathrm{GeV}$. (2) Small mass region with $3\times10^{-13}~\mathrm{GeV}$ for a higher reheating temperature. (3) Annihilation channel becomes important in the case of higher reheating temperature, which enables the Weyl gauge boson with mass up to $4\times10^{16}~\mathrm{GeV}$ to be produced through freeze-in.

Probing Dark Matter Spikes via Gravitational Waves of Extreme Mass Ratio Inspirals

The exact properties of dark matter remain largely unknown despite the accumulating evidence. If dark matter is composed of weakly interacting massive particles, it would be accreted by the black hole in the galactic center and form a dense, cuspy spike. Dynamical friction from this spike may have observable effects in a binary system. We consider extreme-mass-ratio inspiral (EMRI) binaries comprising massive black holes harbored in dark matter spikes and stellar mass objects in elliptic orbits. We find that the gravitational-wave waveforms in the frequency domain can be substantially modified. In particular, we show that dark matter can suppress the characteristic strain of a gravitational wave at low frequency but enhance it at a higher domain. These effects are more dramatic as the dark matter density increases. The results indicate that the signal-to-noise ratio of EMRIs can be strongly reduced near $10^{-3}\sim 0.3$~Hz but enhanced near $1.0$~Hz with a higher sensitivity, which can be probed via the future space-borne gravitational-wave (GW) detectors, LISA and TAIJI. The findings will have important impacts on the detection and parameter inference of EMRIs.

Conformal $α$-attractor Inflation with Weyl Gauge Field

Conformal scaling invariance should play an important role for understanding the origin and evolution of universe. During inflation period, it appears to be an approximate symmetry, but how it is broken remains uncertain. The appealing $α$-attractor inflation implements the spontaneous breaking of conformal symmetry and a mysterious SO(1,1) global symmetry. To better understand the SO(1,1) symmetry, here we present a systematic treatment of the inflation models with local conformal symmetry in a more general formalism. We find SO(2) is the other possible symmetry in the presence of Weyl gauge field. We also obtain all the analytic solutions that relate the inflation fields between Jordan frame and Einstein frame. We illustrate a class of inflation models with the approximate SO(2) symmetry and trigonometric potential, and find that it can fit the current observations and will be probed by future CMB experiments.

Equation of state and chiral transition in soft-wall AdS/QCD with more realistic gravitational background

We construct an improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model with a cubic coupling term of the dilaton and the bulk scalar field. The background fields in this model are solved from the Einstein-dilaton system with a nontrivial dilaton potential, which has been shown to be able to reproduce the equation of state from lattice QCD with two flavors. The chiral transition behaviors are investigated in the improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model with the solved gravitational background, and the crossover transition can be realized. Our study provides a possibility to address the deconfining and chiral phase transitions simultaneously in the bottom-up holographic framework.

Weyl Symmetry Inspired Inflation and Dark Matter

Motivated by the Weyl scaling gauge symmetry, we present a theoretical framework to explain cosmic inflation and dark matter simultaneously. This symmetry has been resurrected in recent attempts to formulate the gauge theory of gravity. We show the inspired inflation model is well consistent with current observations and will be probed further by future experiments. Furthermore, we clarify and prove the stability of Weyl gauge boson in the general theory with multiple scalars. We show the massive Weyl gauge boson can be a dark matter candidate and give the correct relic abundance.

The LISA-Taiji network: precision localization of massive black hole binaries

A space-based gravitational-wave detector, LISA, consists of a triangle of three spacecrafts with a separation distance of 2.5 million kilometers in a heliocentric orbit behind the Earth. Like LISA, Taiji is compose of a triangle of three spacecrafts with a separation distance of 3 million kilometers in a heliocentric orbit ahead of the Earth. They are expected to launch in 2030-2035. Assuming a one-year overlap, we propose the LISA-Taiji network in space to fast and accurately localize the gravitational-wave sources. We use the Fisher information matrix approach to analyze the sky localization for coalescing massive black hole binaries. For an equal-mass black hole binary located at redshift of 1 with a total intrinsic mass of $10^5 M_{\odot}$, the LISA-Taiji network may achieves about four orders of magnitude improvement on the event localization region compared to an individual detector. The precision measurement of sky location from the gravitational-wave signal may completely identify the host galaxy with low redshifts prior to the final black hole merger. Such the identification of the host galaxy is helpful for the follow-up change in electromagnetic emissions of the accretion disk when the massive black hole binary merges to a single massive black hole, and enables the coalescing massive black hole binaries to be used as a standard siren.

$SU(3)_{F}$ Gauge Family Model and New Symmetry Breaking Scale From FCNC Processes

Based on the $SU(3)_{F}$ gauge family symmetry model which was proposed to explain the observed mass and mixing pattern of neutrinos, we investigate the symmetry breaking, the mixing pattern in quark and lepton sectors, and the contribution of the new gauge bosons to some flavour changing neutral currents (FCNC) processes at low energy. With the current data of the mass differences in the neutral pseudo-scalar $P^{0}-\bar{P}^{0}$ systems, we find that the $SU(3)_{F}$ symmetry breaking scale can be as low as 300TeV and the mass of the lightest gauge boson be about $100$TeV. Other FCNC processes, such as the lepton flavour number violation process $μ^{-}\rightarrow e^{-}e^{+}e^{-}$ and the semi-leptonic rare decay $K\rightarrow π\barν ν$, contain contributions via the new gauge bosons exchanging. With the constrains got from $P^0-\bar{P}^0$ system, we estimate that the contribution of the new physics is around $10^{-16}$, far below the current experimental bounds.

Chiral phase transition and meson spectrum in improved soft-wall AdS/QCD

We investigate in detail the chiral thermal transition of QCD in an improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model with a simply modified 5D conformal mass of the bulk scalar field. We also present a calculation in this model for the light meson spectra and other low-energy characteristic quantities including the pion form factor, the pi-rho coupling constant and the decay constants of pi, rho, a_1, which are shown to result in a good agreement with experimental data except for the pion decay constant. The thermal behavior of chiral condensate is studied. It is found that such a simply improved soft-wall model incorporates the crossover behavior of chiral thermal transition indicated by lattice simulations. The expected chiral transition temperature can be obtained.

Infrared-Improved Soft-wall AdS/QCD Model for Mesons

We construct and investigate an infrared-improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model for mesons. Both linear confinement and chiral symmetry breaking of low energy QCD are well characterized in such an infrared-improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model. The model enables us to obtain a more consistent numerical prediction for the mass spectra of resonance scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial-vector mesons. In particular, the predicted mass for the lightest ground state scalar meson shows a good agreement with the experimental data. The model also provides a remarkable check for the Gell-Mann-Oakes-Renner relation and a sensible result for the space-like pion form factor.

IR-improved Soft-wall AdS/QCD Model for Baryons

We construct an infrared-improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model for baryons by considering the infrared-modified 5D conformal mass and Yukawa coupling of the bulk baryon field. The model is also built by taking into account the parity-doublet pattern for the excited baryons. When taking the bulk vacuum structure of the meson field to be the one obtained consistently in the infrared-improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model for mesons, we arrive at a consistent prediction for the baryon mass spectrum in even and odd parity. The prediction shows a remarkable agreement with the experimental data. We also perform a calculation for the $ρ(a_1)$ meson-nucleon coupling constant and obtain a consistent result in comparison with the experimental data and many other models.

On the evaporation of solar dark matter: spin-independent effective operators

As a part of the effort to investigate the implications of dark matter (DM)-nucleon effective interactions on the solar DM detection, in this paper we focus on the evaporation of the solar DM for a set of the DM-nucleon spin-independent (SI) effective operators. In order to put the evaluation of the evaporation rate on a more reliable ground, we calculate the non-thermal distribution of the solar DM using the Monte Carlo methods, rather than adopting the Maxwellian approximation. We then specify relevant signal parameter spaces for the solar DM detection for various SI effective operators. Based on the analysis, we determine the minimum DM masses for which the DM-nucleon coupling strengths can be probed from the solar neutrino observations. As an interesting application, our investigation also shows that evaporation effect can not be neglectd in a recent proposal aiming to solve the solar abundance problem by invoking the momentum-dependent asymmetric DM in the Sun.

Pure Gravitational Dark Matter, Its Mass and Signatures

In this study, we investigate a scenario that dark matter (DM) has only gravitational interaction. In the framework of effective field theory of gravity, we find that DM is still stable at tree level even if there is no symmetry to protect its longevity, but could decay into standard model particles due to gravitational loop corrections. The radiative corrections can lead to both higher- and lower-dimensional effective operators. We also first explore how DM can be produced in the early universe. Through gravitational interaction at high temperature, DM is then found to have mass around TeV $\lesssim m_X \lesssim 10^{11}$GeV to get the right relic abundance. When DM decays, it mostly decays into gravitons, which could be tested by current and future CMB experiments. We also estimate the resulting fluxes for cosmic rays, gamma-ray and neutrino.

Quantum field theory of gravity with spin and scaling gauge invariance and spacetime dynamics with quantum inflation

Treating the gravitational force on the same footing as the electroweak and strong forces, we present a quantum field theory of gravity based on spin and scaling gauge symmetries. A biframe spacetime is initiated to describe such a quantum gravity theory. The gravifield sided on both locally flat noncoordinate spacetime and globally flat Minkowski spacetime is an essential ingredient for gauging global spin and scaling symmetries. The locally flat gravifield spacetime spanned by the gravifield is associated with a noncommutative geometry characterized by a gauge-type field strength of the gravifield. A coordinate-independent and gauge-invariant action for the quantum gravity is built in the gravifield basis. In the coordinate basis, we derive equations of motion for all quantum fields including the gravitational effect and obtain basic conservation laws for all symmetries. The equation of motion for gravifield tensor is deduced in connection directly with the total energy-momentum tensor. When the spin and scaling gauge symmetries are broken down to a background structure that possesses the global Lorentz and scaling symmetries, we obtain exact solutions by solving equations of motion for the background fields in a unitary basis. The massless graviton and massive spinon result as physical quantum degrees of freedom. The resulting Lorentz-invariant and conformally flat background gravifield space-time is characterized by a cosmic vector with a nonzero cosmological mass scale. The conformal size of the Universe becomes singular at the cosmological horizon and turns out to be inflationary. A mechanism for quantum inflation is demonstrated to generate the inflation of the early Universe. Two types of gravity equation result, one is as the extension to Einstein's equation of general relativity, and the other is a new one that characterizes spinon dynamics.

Chiral Phase Transition in the Soft-Wall Model of AdS/QCD

We investigate the chiral phase transition in the soft-wall model of AdS/QCD at zero chemical potential for two-flavor and three-flavor cases, respectively. We show that there is no spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in the original soft-wall model. After detailed analysis, we find that in order to realize chiral symmetry breaking and restoration, both profiles for the scalar potential and the dilaton field are essential. The scalar potential determines the possible solution structure of the chiral condensate, except the mass term, it takes another quartic term for the two-flavor case, and for the three-flavor case, one has to take into account an extra cubic term due to the t'Hooft determinant interaction. The profile of the dilaton field reflects the gluodynamics, which is negative at a certain ultraviolet scale and approaches positive quadratic behavior at far infrared region. With this set-up, the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in the vacuum and its restoration at finite temperature can be realized perfectly. In the two-flavor case, it gives a second order chiral phase transition in the chiral limit, while the transition turns to be a crossover for any finite quark mass. In the case of three-flavor, the phase transition becomes a first order one in the chiral limit, while above sufficient large quark mass it turns to be a crossover again. This scenario agrees exactly with the current understanding on chiral phase transition from lattice QCD and other effective model studies.

Cosmic ray propagation and dark matter in light of the latest AMS-02 data

The AMS-02 experiment is measuring the high energy charged cosmic rays with unprecedented accuracy. We explore the possibility of determining the cosmic-ray propagation models using the AMS-02 data $alone$. A global Bayesian analysis of the constraints on the cosmic-ray propagation models from the latest AMS-02 data on the Boron to Carbon nuclei flux ratio and proton flux is performed, with the assumption that the primary nucleon source is a broken power law in rigidity. The ratio of the diffusion coefficient $D_{0}$ to the diffusive halo height $Z_{h}$ is found to be determined with high accuracy $D_{0}/Z_{h}\simeq 2.00\pm0.07\text{cm}^{2}\text{s}^{-1}\text{kpc}^{-1}$. The best-fit value of the halo width is $Z_{h}\simeq 3.3$ kpc with uncertainty less than $50\$. As a consequence, the typical uncertainties in the positron fraction is within a factor of two, and that in the antiproton flux is within an order of magnitude. Both of them are significantly smaller than that from the analyses prior to AMS-02. Taking into account all the uncertainties and correlations in the propagation parameters we derive conservative upper limits on the cross sections for DM annihilating into various standard model final states from the current PAMELA antiproton data. We also investigate the reconstruction capability of the future AMS-02 antiproton data on the DM properties. The result shows that for DM particles lighter than 100 GeV and with typical thermal annihilation cross section, the cross section can be well reconstructed with uncertainties about a factor of two for the AMS-02 three-year data taking.

Implications of the first AMS-02 antiproton data for dark matter

The implications of the first AMS-02 $\bar p/p$ data for the propagation of cosmic rays and the properties of dark matter (DM) are discussed. Using various diffusive re-acceleration (DR) propagation models, one can derive very conservative upper limits on the DM annihilation cross sections. The limits turned out to be compatible with that from the Ferm-LAT gamma-ray data on the dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies. The flattening of the $\bar p/p$ spectrum above $\sim 100$~GeV in the current data still leaves some room for TeV scale DM particles. More antiproton data at high kinetic energies are needed to constrain the properties of the DM particles.

Long-range self-interacting dark matter in the Sun

We investigate the implications of the long-rang self-interaction on both the self-capture and the annihilation of the self-interacting dark matter (SIDM) trapped in the Sun. Our discussion is based on a specific SIDM model in which DM particles self-interact via a light scalar mediator, or Yukawa potential, in the context of quantum mechanics. Within this framework, we calculate the self-capture rate across a broad region of parameter space. While the self-capture rate can be obtained separately in the Born regime with perturbative method, and the classical limits with the Rutherford formula, our calculation covers the gap between in a non-perturbative fashion. Besides, the phenomelogy of both the Sommerfeld-enhanced s- and p-wave annihilation of the solar SIDM is also involved in our discussion. Moreover, by combining the analysis of the Super-Kamiokande (SK) data and the observed DM relic density, we constrain the nuclear capture rate of the DM particles in the presence of the dark Yukawa potential. The consequence of the long-range dark force on probing the solar SIDM turns out to be significant if the force-carrier is much lighter than the DM particle, and a quantitative analysis is provided.

Quantum Electroweak Symmetry Breaking Through Loop Quadratic Contributions

Based on two postulations that (i) the Higgs boson has a large bare mass $m_H \gg m_h \simeq 125 $ GeV at the characteristic energy scale $M_c$ which defines the standard model (SM) in the ultraviolet region, and (ii) quadratic contributions of Feynman loop diagrams in quantum field theories are physically meaningful, we show that the SM electroweak symmetry breaking is induced by the quadratic contributions from loop effects. As the quadratic running of Higgs mass parameter leads to an additive renormalization, which distinguishes from the logarithmic running with a multiplicative renormalization, the symmetry breaking occurs once the sliding energy scale $μ$ moves from $M_c$ down to a transition scale $μ=Λ_{EW}$ at which the additive renormalized Higgs mass parameter $m^2_H(M_c/μ)$ gets to change the sign. With the input of current experimental data, this symmetry breaking energy scale is found to be $Λ_{EW}\simeq 760$ GeV, which provides another basic energy scale for the SM besides $M_c$. Studying such a symmetry breaking mechanism could play an important role in understanding both the hierarchy problem and naturalness problem. It also provides a possible way to explore the experimental implications of the quadratic contributions as $Λ_{EW}$ lies within the probing reach of the LHC and the future Great Collider.

Realization of chiral symmetry breaking and restoration in holographic QCD

With proper profiles of the scalar potential and the dilaton field, for the first time, the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking in the vacuum and its restoration at finite temperature are correctly realized in the holographic QCD framework. In the chiral limit, a nonzero chiral condensate develops in the vacuum and decreases with temperature, and the phase transition is of 2nd order for two-flavor case and of 1st order for three-flavor case. In the case of explicit chiral symmetry breaking, in two-flavor case, the 2nd order phase transition turns to crossover with any nonzero current quark mass, and in three-flavor case, the 1st order phase transition turns to crossover at a finite current quark mass. The correct description of chiral symmetry breaking and restoration makes the holographic QCD models more powerful in dealing with non-perturbative QCD phenomena. This framework can be regarded as a general set up in application of AdS/CFT to describe conventional Ginzburg-Landau-Wilson type phase transitions, e.g. in condensed matter and cosmology systems.

Theory of Quantum Gravity Beyond Einstein and Space-time Dynamics with Quantum Inflation

In this talk, I present a theory of quantum gravity beyond Einstein. The theory is established based on spinnic and scaling gauge symmetries by treating the gravitational force on the same footing as the electroweak and strong forces. A bi-frame space-time is initiated to describe the laws of nature. One frame space-time is a globally flat coordinate Minkowski space-time that acts as an inertial reference frame for the motions of fields, the other is a locally flat non-coordinate Gravifield space-time that functions as an interaction representation frame for the degrees of freedom of fields. The Gravifield is sided on both the globally flat coordinate space-time and locally flat non-coordinate space-time and characterizes the gravitational force. Instead of the principle of general coordinate invariance in Einstein theory of general relativity, some underlying principles with the postulates of coordinate independence and gauge invariance are motivated to establish the theory of quantum gravity. When transmuting the Gravifield basis into the coordinate basis in Minkowski space-time, it enables us to obtain equations of motion for all quantum fields and derive basic conservation laws for all symmetries. When the spinnic and scaling gauge symmetries are broken down to a background structure that possesses the global Lorentz and scaling symmetries, we arrive at a Lorentz invariant and conformally flat background Gravifield space-time that is characterized by a cosmic vector with a non-zero cosmological mass scale. We also obtain the massless graviton and massive spinnon. We show a mechanism for quantum inflation caused by the quantum loop contributions. The Einstein theory of general relativity is expected to be an effective low energy theory. Two types of gravity equation are resulted.

Topolgical Charged Black Holes in Generalized Horava-Lifshitz Gravity

As a candidate of quantum gravity in ultrahigh energy, the $(3+1)$-dimensional Hořava-Lifshitz (HL) gravity with critical exponent $z\ne 1$, indicates anisotropy between time and space at short distance. In the paper, we investigate the most general $z=d$ Hořava-Lifshitz gravity in arbitrary spatial dimension $d$, with a generic dynamical Ricci flow parameter $λ$ and a detailed balance violation parameter $ε$. In arbitrary dimensional generalized HL$_{d+1}$ gravity with $z\ge d$ at long distance, we study the topological neutral black hole solutions with general $λ$ in $z=d$ HL$_{d+1}$, as well as the topological charged black holes with $λ=1$ in $z=d$ HL$_{d+1}$. The HL gravity in the Lagrangian formulation is adopted, while in the Hamiltonian formulation, it reduces to Dirac$-$De Witt's canonical gravity with $λ=1$. In particular, the topological charged black holes in $z=5$ HL$_6$, $z=4$ HL$_5$, $z=3,4$ HL$_4$ and $z=2$ HL$_3$ with $λ=1$ are solved. Their asymptotical behaviors near the infinite boundary and near the horizon are explored respectively. We also study the behavior of the topological black holes in the $(d+1)$-dimensional HL gravity with $U(1)$ gauge field in the zero temperature limit and finite temperature limit, respectively. Thermodynamics of the topological charged black holes with $λ=1$, including temperature, entropy, heat capacity, and free energy are evaluated.

Upper limits on DM annihilation cross sections from the first AMS-02 antiproton data

The first measurement on the antiproton to proton ratio made by the AMS-02 collaboration agrees with the expection from conventional cosmic-ray secondaries in the kinetic energy range $\sim 10-100$ GeV, which can be turned into stringent upper limits on the dark matter (DM) annihilation cross sections above $\sim 300$ GeV. Using the GALPROP code, we derive the upper limits in various propagation models and DM profiles. We show that in the "conventional" propagation model, for the $q\bar q$, $b\bar b$, and $WW$ final states, the constraints can be more stringent than that derived from the recent Ferm-LAT gamma-ray data on the dwarf spheroidal satellite galaxies. Making use of the typical minimal, median and maximal models obtained from a previous global fit, we show that the variation of the upper limits is around a factor of five. The possibility of DM contribution to the high energy $\bar p/p$ data is discussed.

Direct detection and solar capture of spin-dependent dark matter

We investigate the implication of different spin-dependent (SD) operators on both the direct and indirect detections of the Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP). Six representative building blocks of SD operators, together with their counterparts with a massless mediator are considered to interpret the direct detection experiments(Xenon100, SIMPLE, and COUPP) in a comprehensive way. We also study the solar capture and annihilation of WIMPs with these effective SD operators and place the constraints on the relevant annihilation rate from neutrino detection experiments Super-Kamionkande and IceCube. Upper limits on the WIMP-nucleon couplings drawn from direct detections are also projected to the annihilation rate for contrast and complementarity. We find that the efficiency of these mentioned detection strategies depends specifically on the six SD operators, while the neutrino-based detections are more effective in exploring the parameter space for the massless mediator scenario.

Leptonic CP Violation and Wolfenstein Parametrization for Lepton Mixing

We investigate a general structure of lepton mixing matrix resulting from the SU$_F$(3) gauge family model with an appropriate vacuum structure of SU$_F$(3) symmetry breaking. It is shown that the lepton mixing matrix can be parametrized by using the Wolfenstein parametrization method to characterize its deviation from the tri-bimaximal mixing. A general analysis for the allowed leptonic CP-violating phase $δ_e$ and the leptonic Wolfenstein parameters $λ_e$, $A_e$, $ρ_e$ is carried out based on the observed lepton mixing angles. We demonstrate how the leptonic CP violation correlates to the leptonic Wolfenstein parameters. It is found that the phase $δ_e$ is strongly constrained and only a large or nearly maximal leptonic CP-violating phase $|δ_e| \simeq 3π/4 \sim π/2$ is favorable when $λ_e > 0.15 $. In particular, when taking $λ_e$ to be the Cabbibo angle $\gl_e\simeq λ\simeq 0.225$, a sensible result for leptonic Wolfenstein parameters and CP violation is obtained with $ A_e=1.40$, $ρ_e=0.20$, $δ_{e}\sim 101.76\;^o$, which is compatible with the one in quark sector. An interesting correlation between leptons and quarks is observed, which indicates a possible common origin of masses and mixing for the charged-leptons and quarks.

Quantum Structure of Field Theory and Standard Model Based on Infinity-free Loop Regularization/Renormalization

To understand better the quantum structure of field theory and standard model in particle physics, it is necessary to investigate carefully the divergence structure in quantum field theories (QFTs) and work out a consistent framework to avoid infinities. The divergence has got us into trouble since developing quantum electrodynamics in 1930s, its treatment via the renormalization scheme is satisfied not by all physicists, like Dirac and Feynman who have made serious criticisms. The renormalization group analysis reveals that QFTs can in general be defined fundamentally with the meaningful energy scale that has some physical significance, which motivates us to develop a new symmetry-preserving and infinity-free regularization scheme called loop regularization (LORE). A simple regularization prescription in LORE is realized based on a manifest postulation that a loop divergence with a power counting dimension larger than or equal to the space-time dimension must vanish. The LORE method is achieved without modifying original theory and leads the divergent Feynman loop integrals well-defined to maintain the divergence structure and meanwhile preserve basic symmetries of original theory. The crucial point in LORE is the presence of two intrinsic energy scales which play the roles of ultraviolet cut-off $M_c$ and infrared cut-off $μ_s$ to avoid infinities. The key concept in LORE is the introduction of irreducible loop integrals (ILIs) on which the regularization prescription acts, which leads to a set of gauge invariance consistency conditions between the regularized tensor-type and scalar-type ILIs. The evaluation of ILIs with ultraviolet-divergence-preserving (UVDP) parametrization naturally leads to Bjorken-Drell's analogy between Feynman diagrams and electric circuits. The LORE method has been shown to be applicable to both underlying and effective QFTs.

Thermal Spectral Function and Deconfinement Temperature in Bulk Holographic AdS/QCD with Back Reaction of Bulk Vacuum

Based on the IR-improved bulk holographic AdS/QCD model which provides a consistent prediction for the mass spectra of resonance scalar, pseudoscalar, vector and axial vector mesons, we investigate its finite temperature behavior. By analyzing the spectral function of mesons and fitting it with a Breit-Wigner form, we perform an analysis for the critical temperature of mesons. The back-reaction effects of bulk vacuum are considered, the thermal mass spectral function of resonance mesons is calculated based on the back-reaction improved action. A reasonable melting temperature is found to be $T_c \simeq 150 \pm 7$ MeV, which is consistent with the recent results from lattice QCD simulations.

Consistency of Loop Regularization Method and Divergence Structure of QFTs Beyond One-Loop Order

We study the problem how to deal with tensor-type two-loop integrals in the Loop Regularization (LORE) scheme. We use the two-loop photon vacuum polarization in the massless Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) as the example to present the general procedure. In the processes, we find a new divergence structure: the regulated result for each two-loop diagram contains a gauge-violating quadratic harmful divergent term even combined with their corresponding counterterm insertion diagrams. Only when we sum up over all the relevant diagrams do these quadratic harmful divergences cancel, recovering the gauge invariance and locality.

Direct detection and solar capture of dark matter with momentum and velocity dependent elastic scattering

We explore the momentum and velocity dependent elastic scattering between the dark matter (DM) particles and the nuclei in detectors and the Sun. In terms of the non-relativistic effective theory, we phenomenologically discuss ten kinds of momentum and velocity dependent DM-nucleus interactions and recalculate the corresponding upper limits on the spin-independent DM-nucleon scattering cross section from the current direct detection experiments. The DM solar capture rate is calculated for each interaction. Our numerical results show that the momentum and velocity dependent cases can give larger solar capture rate than the usual contact interaction case for almost the whole parameter space. On the other hand, we deduce the Super-Kamiokande's constraints on the solar capture rate for eight typical DM annihilation channels. In contrast to the usual contact interaction, the Super-Kamiokande and IceCube experiments can give more stringent limits on the DM-nucleon elastic scattering cross section than the current direct detection experiments for several momentum and velocity dependent DM-nucleus interactions. In addition, we investigate the mediator mass's effect on the DM elastic scattering cross section and solar capture rate.

Hydrodynamics and transport coefficients in an infrared-deformed soft-wall AdS/QCD model at finite temperature

We extend an infrared-deformed soft-wall anti de-Sitter/QCD model at zero temperature to a model at finite temperature and perform hydrodynamics. To have the infalling boundary condition to make the hydrodynamic analysis possible, we treat the infrared energy scale factor in our metric as a temperature-depending parameter. Then, by carrying out the hydrodynamic analysis, we compute the transport coefficients, the diffusion constant, and the shear viscosity, through the linear response theory.

Implications of the first AMS-02 measurement for dark matter annihilation and decay

In light of the first measurement of the positron fraction by the AMS-02 experiment, we perform a detailed global analysis on the interpretation of the latest data of PAMELA, Fermi-LAT, and AMS-02 in terms of dark matter (DM) annihilation and decay in various propagation models. The allowed regions for the DM particle mass and annihilation cross section or decay life-time are obtained for channels with leptonic final states: $2e$, $2μ$, $2τ$, $4e$, $4μ$ and $4τ$. We show that for the conventional astrophysical background the AMS-02 positron fraction data alone favour a DM particle mass $\sim 500 \ (800)$ GeV if DM particles annihilate dominantly into $2μ\ (4μ)$ final states, which is significantly lower than that favoured by the Fermi-LAT data of the total flux of electrons and positrons. The allowed regions by the two experiments do not overlap at a high confidence level ($99.99999\%$C.L.). We consider a number of propagation models with different halo height $Z_{h}$, diffusion parameters $D_{0}$ and $δ_{1/2}$, and power indices of primary nucleon sources $γ_{p1/p2}$. The normalization and the slope of the electron background are also allowed to vary. We find that the tension between the two experiments can be only slightly reduced in the propagation model with large $Z_{h}$ and $D_{0}$. The consistency of fit is improved for annihilation channels with $2τ$ and $4τ$ final states which favour TeV scale DM particle with large cross sections above $\sim 10^{-23} \text{cm}^3\text{s}^{-1}$. In all the considered leptonic channels, the current data favour the scenario of DM annihilation over DM decay. In the decay scenario, the charge asymmetric DM decay is slightly favoured.

Note on 125 GeV Spin-2 particle

A new boson around 125 GeV without specific spin has been observed by both ATLAS and CMS at the LHC. Since its decay into a diphoton excludes the spin-1 case by the Landau-Yang theorem,it leaves 0 or 2 as the possible lowest spin for the new boson. Instead of the well-established spin-0 Higgs-like boson, we take this new boson to be a spin-2 massive Graviton-like particle denoted as $G$, which exists copiously in extra-dimension theories, and concentrate on its phenomenology. In particular, we calculate the three-body decays of $G\rightarrow V f\bar{f}'$ with $V$ and $f^{(\prime)}$ the gauge boson and fermions in the standard model (SM) and compare our results with those of the SM Higgs boson. The couplings between $G$ and $V$s are also estimated by fitting the data. A new observable that can distinguish $G$ from the Higgs is proposed.

Sommerfeld enhancements with vector, scalar and pseudoscalar force-carriers

The first AMS-02 measurement confirms the existence of an excess in the cosmic-ray positron fraction previously reported by the PAMELA and Fermi-LAT experiments. If interpreted in terms of thermal dark matter (DM) annihilation, the AMS-02 result still suggests that the DM annihilation cross section in the present day should be significantly larger than that at freeze out. The Sommerfeld enhancement of DM annihilation cross section as a possible explanation for the observed excesses is subject to constraint from the DM thermal relic density, mainly due to the annihilation of DM particles into force-carrier particles introduced by the mechanism. We show that the effect of the Sommerfeld enhancement and the relic density constraint depend significantly on the nature of the force-carrier. Three cases where the force-carrier is a vector boson, scalar and pseudoscalar particle are investigated and compared with each other. The results show that for the vector force-carrier, the Sommerfeld enhancement can marginally account for the AMS-02 data for $2μ$ final states, while for scalar force-carrier the allowed Sommerfeld enhancement can be larger by a factor of two. For the case with a pesudoscalar force-carrier, the Sommerfeld enhancement can be large enough to accommodate the AMS-02 and Fermi-LAT result for a variety of DM annihilation final states.

Thermal Mass Spectra of Scalar and Pseudo-Scalar Mesons in IR-improved Soft-Wall AdS/QCD Model with Finite Chemical Potential

The thermal mass spectra of scalar and pseudo scalar mesons are studied in an IR-improved soft-wall AdS/QCD model. The Reissner-Nordstrom AdS black hole metric is introduced to describe both the finite temperature and density effects. The thermal spectral function is computed, which shows that the position of peak moves towards a smaller value and the width of peak also broadens to a larger value as the temperature increases. The critical temperature at which the peaks are completely dissolved has been found to be around $T_{c}\simeq 160\sim 200\MeV$. The effect of chemical potential is shown to be the same as the one caused by the temperature. It is found that when the temperature approaches to zero $T\approx 0$, the melting down of mesons occurs at the scaled critical chemical potential $μ_0/κ\approx 2.2\sim 2.4 \GeV$.

Analysis on a General Class of Holographic Type Dark Energy Models

We present a detail analysis on a general class of holographic type dark energy models characterized by the length scale $L=\frac1{a^n(t)}\int_0^t dt' a^m(t')$. We show that $n \geq 0$ is required by the recent cosmic accelerated expansion of universe. In the early universe dominated by the constituent with constant equation of state $w_m$, we have $w_{de}\simeq -1-\frac{2n}{3}$ for $n \geq 0$ and $m<0$, and $w_{de}\simeq-\frac23(n-m)+w_m$ for $n > m \geq 0$. The models with $n > m \geq 0$ become single-parameter models like the $Λ$CDM model due to the analytic feature $Ω_{de}\simeq \frac{d^2}4(2m+3w_m+3)^2a^{2(n-m)}$ at radiation- and matter-dominated epoch. Whereas the cases $n=m\geq 0$ should be abandoned as the dark energy cannot dominate the universe forever and there might be too large fraction of dark energy in early universe, and the cases $m> n \geq 0$ are forbidden by the self-consistent requirement $Ω_{de}\ll1 $ in the early universe. Thus a detailed study on the single-parameter models corresponding to cases $n >m \geq 0$ is carried out by using recent observations. The best-fit analysis indicates that the conformal-age-like models with $n=m+1$, i.e. $L\propto\frac1{Ha}$ in early universe, are more favored and also the models with smaller $n$ for the given $n-m$ are found to fit the observations better. The equation of state of the dark energy in models with $n=m+1 >0$ transits from $w_{de}<-1$ during inflation to $w_{de}>-1$ in radiation- and matter-dominated epoch, and then back to $w_{de}<-1$ eventually. The best-fit result of the case $(n=0, m=-1)$ which is so-called $η$HDE model proposed in \cite{Huang:2012xm} is the most favorable model and compatible with the $Λ$CDM model.

Charmless $B_s\to PP, PV, VV$ Decays Based on the six-quark Effective Hamiltonian with Strong Phase Effects II

We provide a systematic study of charmless $B_s \to PP, PV, VV$ decays ($P$ and $V$ denote pseudoscalar and vector mesons, respectively) based on an approximate six-quark operator effective Hamiltonian from QCD. The calculation of the relevant hard-scattering kernels is carried out, the resulting transition form factors are consistent with the results of QCD sum rule calculations. By taking into account important classes of power corrections involving "chirally-enhanced" terms and the vertex corrections as well as weak annihilation contributions with non-trivial strong phase, we present predictions for the branching ratios and CP asymmetries of $B_s$ decays into PP, PV and VV final states, and also for the corresponding polarization observables in VV final states. It is found that the weak annihilation contributions with non-trivial strong phase have remarkable effects on the observables in the color-suppressed and penguin-dominated decay modes. In addition, we discuss the SU(3) flavor symmetry and show that the symmetry relations are generally respected.

Chiral Thermodynamic Model of QCD and its Critical Behavior in the Closed-Time-Path Green Function Approach

By applying the closed-time-path Green function formalism to the chiral dynamical model based on an effective Lagrangian of chiral quarks with the nonlinear-realized meson fields as bosonized auxiliary fields, we then arrive at a chiral thermodynamic model for the meson fields with finite temperature. Particular attention is paid to the spontaneous chiral symmetry breaking and restoration from the dynamically generated effective composite Higgs potential of meson fields at finite temperature. It is shown that the minimal condition of the effective composite Higgs potential of meson fields leads to the thermodynamic gap equation at finite temperature, which enables us to investigate the critical behavior of the effective chiral thermodynamical model and to explore the QCD phase transition. After fixing the free parameters in the effective chiral Lagrangian at low energies with zero temperature, we determine the critical temperature of the chiral symmetry restoration and present a consistent prediction for the thermodynamical behavior of several physically interesting quantities, which include the vacuum expectation value $v_o(T)$, quark condensate $<\bar{q}q>(T)$, pion decay constant $f_π(T)$ and pion meson mass $m_π(T)$. In particular, it is also shown that the thermodynamic scaling behavior of these quantities becomes the same near the critical point of phase transition.

Consistency and Advantage of Loop Regularization Method Merging with Bjorken-Drell's Analogy Between Feynman Diagrams and Electrical Circuits

The consistency of loop regularization (LORE) method is explored in multiloop calculations. A key concept of the LORE method is the introduction of irreducible loop integrals (ILIs) which are evaluated from the Feynman diagrams by adopting the Feynman parametrization and ultraviolet-divergence-preserving(UVDP) parametrization. It is then inevitable for the ILIs to encounter the divergences in the UVDP parameter space due to the generic overlapping divergences in the 4-dimensional momentum space. By computing the so-called $αβγ$ integrals arising from two loop Feynman diagrams, we show how to deal with the divergences in the parameter space with the LORE method. By identifying the divergences in the UVDP parameter space to those in the subdiagrams, we arrive at the Bjorken-Drell's analogy between Feynman diagrams and electrical circuits. The UVDP parameters are shown to correspond to the conductance or resistance in the electrical circuits, and the divergence in Feynman diagrams is ascribed to the infinite conductance or zero resistance. In particular, the sets of conditions required to eliminate the overlapping momentum integrals for obtaining the ILIs are found to be associated with the conservations of electric voltages, and the momentum conservations correspond to the conservations of electrical currents, which are known as the Kirchhoff's laws in the electrical circuits analogy. As an application to the massive scalar $ϕ^4$ theory, it enables us to obtain the well-known logarithmic running of the coupling constant and the consistent power-law running of the scalar mass at two loop level. Especially, we present an explicit demonstration on the general procedure of applying the LORE method to the multiloop calculations of Feynman diagrams when merging with the advantage of Bjorken-Drell's circuit analogy.

Cosmological Constraint and Analysis on Holographic Dark Energy Model Characterized by the Conformal-age-like Length

We present a best-fit analysis on the single-parameter holographic dark energy model characterized by the conformal-age-like length, $L=\frac{1}{a^4(t)}\int_0^tdt' a^3(t') $. Based on the Union2 compilation of 557 supernova Ia data, the baryon acoustic oscillation results from the SDSS DR7 and the cosmic microwave background radiation data from the WMAP7, we show that the model gives the minimal $χ^2_{min}=546.273$, which is comparable to $χ^2_{Λ{\rm CDM}}=544.616$ for the $Λ$CDM model. The single parameter $d$ concerned in the model is found to be $d=0.232\pm 0.006\pm 0.009$. Since the fractional density of dark energy $Ω_{de}\sim d^2a^2$ at $a \ll 1$, the fraction of dark energy is naturally negligible in the early universe, $Ω_{de} \ll 1$ at $a \ll 1$. The resulting constraints on the present fractional energy density of matter and the equation of state are $Ω_{m0}=0.286^{+0.019}_{-0.018}^{+0.032}_{-0.028}$ and $w_{de0}=-1.240^{+0.027}_{-0.027}^{+0.045}_{-0.044}$ respectively. The model leads to a slightly larger fraction of matter comparing to the $Λ$CDM model. We also provide a systematic analysis on the cosmic evolutions of the fractional energy density of dark energy, the equation of state of dark energy, the deceleration parameter and the statefinder. It is noticed that the equation of state crosses from $w_{de}>-1$ to $w_{de}<-1$, the universe transits from decelerated expansion ($q>0$) to accelerated expansion ($q<0$) recently, and the statefinder may serve as a sensitive diagnostic to distinguish the CHDE model with the $Λ$CDM model.

Exploring the singlet scalar dark matter from direct detections and neutrino signals via its annihilation in the Sun

We explore the singlet scalar dark matter (DM) from direct detections and high energy neutrino signals generated by the solar DM annihilation. Two singlet scalar DM models are discussed, one is the real singlet scalar DM model as the simple extension of the standard model (SSDM-SM) with a discrete Z_2 symmetry, and another is the complex singlet scalar DM model as the simple extension of the left-right symmetric two Higgs bidoublet model (SSDM-2HBDM) with $P$ and CP symmetries. To derive the Sun capture rate, we consider the uncertainties in the hadronic matrix elements and calculate the spin-independent DM-nucleon elastic scattering cross section. We find that the predicted neutrino induced upgoing muon fluxes in the region 3.7 GeV < m_D < 4.2 GeV slightly exceed the Super-Kamiokande limit in the SSDM-SM. However, this exceeded region can be excluded by the current DM direct detection experiments. For the SSDM-2HBDM, one may adjust the Yukawa couplings to avoid the direct detection limits and enhance the predicted muon fluxes. For the allowed parameter space of the SSDM-SM and SSDM-2HBDM, the produced muon fluxes in the Super-Kamiokande and muon event rates in the IceCube are less than the experiment upper bound and atmosphere background, respectively.

Gauge Theory Model of the Neutrino and New Physics Beyond the Standard Model

Majorana features of neutrinos and SO(3) gauge symmetry of three families enable us to construct a gauge model of neutrino for understanding naturally the observed smallness of neutrino masses and the nearly tri-bimaximal neutrino mixing when combining together with the mechanism of approximate global U(1) family symmetry. The vacuum structure of SO(3) symmetry breaking is found to play an important role. The mixing angle $θ_{13}$ and CP-violating phases governed by the vacuum of spontaneous symmetry breaking are in general non-zero and testable experimentally at the allowed sensitivity. The model predicts the existence of vector-like SO(3) triplet charged leptons and vector-like SO(3) triplet Majorana neutrinos as well as SO(3) tri-triplet Higgs bosons, some of them can be light and explored at the colliders LHC and ILC.

Holographic Dark Energy Characterized by the Total Comoving Horizon and Insights to Cosmological Constant and Coincidence Problem

The observed acceleration of the present universe is shown to be well explained by the holographic dark energy characterized by the total comoving horizon of the universe ($η$HDE). It is of interest to notice that the very large primordial part of the comoving horizon generated by the inflation of early universe makes the $η$HDE behave like a cosmological constant. As a consequence, both the fine-tuning problem and the coincidence problem can reasonably be understood with the inflationary universe and holographical principle. We present a systematic analysis and obtain a consistent cosmological constraint on the $η$HDE model based on the recent cosmological observations. It is found that the $η$HDE model gives the best-fit result $Ω_{m0}=0.270$ ($Ω_{de0}=0.730$) and the minimal $χ^2_{min}=542.915$ which is compatible with $χ^2_{Λ{\rm CDM}}=542.919$ for the $Λ$CDM model.

Holographic Dark Energy Model Characterized by the Conformal-age-like Length

A holographic dark energy model characterized by the conformal-age-like length scale $L= \frac{1}{a^4(t)}\int_0^tdt' a^3(t') $ is motivated from the four dimensional spacetime volume at cosmic time $t$ in the flat Friedmann-Robertson-Walker universe. It is shown that when the background constituent with constant equation of state $w_m$ dominates the universe in the early time, the fractional energy density of the dark energy scales as $Ω_{de}\simeq \frac94(3+w_m)^2d^2a^2$ with the equation of state given by $w_{de}\simeq-\frac23 +w_m$. The value of $w_m$ is taken to be $w_m\simeq-1$ during inflation, $w_m=\frac13$ in radiation-dominated epoch and $w_m=0$ in matter-dominated epoch respectively. When the model parameter $d$ takes the normal value at order one, the fractional density of dark energy is naturally negligible in the early universe, $Ω_{de} \ll 1$ at $a \ll 1$. With such an analytic feature, the model can be regarded as a single-parameter model like the $Λ$CDM model, so that the present fractional energy density $Ω_{de}(a=1)$ can solely be determined by solving the differential equation of $Ω_{de}$ once $d$ is given. We further extend the model to the general case in which both matter and radiation are present. The scenario involving possible interaction between the dark energy and the background constituent is also discussed.

Note on Higgs Decay into Two Photons $H\to γγ$

The Higgs decay $H\to γγ$ duo to the virtual $W$-loop effect is revisited in the unitary gauge by using the symmetry-preserving and divergent-behavior-preserving loop regularization method, which is realized in the four dimensional space-time without changing original theory. Though the one-loop amplitude of $H\to γγ$ is finite as the Higgs boson in the standard model has no direct interaction with the massless photons at tree level, while it involves both tensor-type and scalar-type divergent integrals which can in general destroy the gauge invariance without imposing a proper regularization scheme to make them well-defined. As the loop regularization scheme can ensure the consistency conditions between the regularized tensor-type and scalar-type divergent irreducible loop integrals to preserve gauge invariance, we explicitly show the absence of decoupling in the limit $M_W/M_H\to0$ and obtain a result agreed exactly with the earlier one in the literature. We then clarify the discrepancy between the earlier result and the recent one obtained by R. Gastmans, S.L. Wu and T.T. Wu. The advantage of calculation in the unitary gauge becomes manifest that the non-decoupling arises from the longitudinal contribution of the $W$ gauge boson.

Quantum Gravitational Contributions to Gauge Field Theories

We revisit quantum gravitational contributions to quantum gauge field theories in the gauge condition independent Vilkovisky-DeWitt formalism based on the background field method. With the advantage of Landau-DeWitt gauge, we explicitly obtain the gauge condition independent result for the quadratically divergent gravitational corrections to gauge couplings. By employing, in a general way, a scheme-independent regularization method that can preserve both gauge invariance and original divergent behavior of integrals, we show that the resulting gauge coupling is power-law running and asymptotically free. The regularization scheme dependence is clarified by comparing with results obtained by other methods. The loop regularization scheme is found to be applicable for a consistent calculation.

Searching for $Z^{'}$ Gauge Boson in an Anomaly-Free U(1)$'$ Gauge Family Model

We study a simple ultraviolet(UV) complete and anomaly free $Z'$ model based on a U$(1)'$ gauge family symmetry without introducing extra fermions beyond the standard model. The U$(1)'$ group is diagonal in the three family space in which the U(1)$'$ charges of the first and second families are the same but different from those of the third family. After spontaneous symmetry breaking and rotating to the mass eigenstates of quarks and leptons, there exist in general both flavor-conserving and flavor-changing couplings. In flavor conserving case, we use the latest dijet and dilepton search at the LHC to constrain the mass and gauge couplings of $Z'$. Also we show that in the flavor-changing and left-right asymmetry case, the t-channel $Z'$ process can only contribute to part of the forward-backward asymmetry in the top quark pair production observed at the Tevatron by taking into account the constraint from same sign top production at the LHC.

SU(3) Gauge Family Symmetry and Prediction for the Lepton-Flavor Mixing and Neutrino Masses with Maximal Spontaneous CP Violation

A model for the lepton-flavor mixing and CP violation is proposed based on the SU$_F$(3) gauge family symmetry and the Majorana feature of neutrinos. A consistent prediction for the lepton-flavor mixing and masses is shown to be resulted from the appropriate vacuum structure of SU$_F$(3) gauge symmetry breaking. By choosing the SU$_F$(3) gauge fixing condition to possess a residual $Z_2$ symmetry and requiring the vacuum structure of spontaneous symmetry breaking to have approximate global U(1) family symmetries, we obtain naturally the tri-bimaximal mixing matrix and largely degenerate neutrino masses in the neutrino sector and the small mixing matrix in the charged-lepton sector. With a simple ansatz that all the smallness due to the approximate global U(1) family symmetries is characterized by a single Wolfenstein parameter $λ\simeq 0.22$, and the charged-lepton mixing matrix has a similar hierarchy structure as the CKM quark mixing matrix, we arrive at a consistent prediction for the MNSP lepton-flavor mixing with a maximal spontaneous CP violation: $δ=π/2$, $\sin^2θ_{13} \simeq 1/2λ^2 \simeq 0.024$ ($\sin^22θ_{13} \simeq 0.094$), $\sin^2θ_{12} \simeq 1/3{3}(1 - 2λ^3) \simeq 0.326$ and $\sin^2θ_{23} \simeq 1/2(1 - λ^2) \simeq 0.48$, which agree well with the current experimental data. The CP-violating Jarlskog-invariant is obtained to be $J_{CP} \simeq 1/6λ(1-λ^2/2-λ^3)\sinδ\simeq 0.035$, which is detectable in next generation neutrino experiment. The largely degenerate neutrino masses with the normal hierarchy and inverse hierarchy are discussed and found be at the order $m_{ν_i} \simeq O(λ^2) \simeq 0.04\sim 0.06$ eV with a total mass $\sum m_ν \sim 0.15$ eV, which is testable in future precision astrophysics and cosmology.

Thermal Mass Spectra of Vector and Axial-Vector Mesons in Predictive Soft-Wall AdS/QCD Model

We extend the predictive soft-wall AdS/QCD model to a thermodynamic model by considering the black hole metric. A modified bulk vacuum expectation value and a modified coefficient for the quartic term in the bulk scalar potential are introduced to obtain a smooth dilaton solution for computing the spectral functions of the vector and axial-vector mesons. It is demonstrated that the peaks appearing in the spectral functions characterize the thermal mass spectra of vector and axial-vector mesons, where the location of the peak moves to a lower value and the width of the peak becomes wider when increasing the temperature. We observe that the peak disappears completely at the critical temperature around $T_c=200$ MeV, which implies the deconfinement of quark and the restoration of chiral symmetry breaking. A numerical study by fitting the spectral function in terms of the Breit-Wigner form has been made to show how the peak dissolves quantitatively when the temperature is increased to the critical point.

Two Higgs Bi-doublet Model With Spontaneous P and CP Violation and Decoupling Limit to Two Higgs Doublet Model

The two Higgs bi-doublet left-right symmetric model (2HBDM) as a simple extension of the minimal left-right symmetric model with a single Higgs bi-doublet is motivated to realize both spontaneous P and CP violation while consistent with the low energy phenomenology without significant fine tuning. By carefully investigating the Higgs potential of the model, we find that sizable CP-violating phases are allowed after the spontaneous symmetry breaking. The mass spectra of the extra scalars in the 2HBDM are significantly different from the ones in the minimal left-right symmetric model. In particular, we demonstrate in the decoupling limit when the right-handed gauge symmetry breaking scale is much higher than the electroweak scale, the 2HBDM decouples into general two Higgs doublet model (2HDM) with spontaneous CP violation and has rich induced sources of CP violation. We show that in the decoupling limit, it contains extra light Higgs bosons with masses around electroweak scale, which can be directly searched at the ongoing LHC and future ILC experiments.

$W^{\pm}H^{\mp}$ associated production at LHC in the general 2HDM with Spontaneous CP Violation

Spontaneous CP violation motivates the introduction of two Higgs doublets in the electroweak theory. Such a simple extension of the standard model has three neutral Higgs bosons and a pair charged Higgs, especially it leads to rich CP-violating sources including the induced Kobayashi-Maskawa CP-violating phase, the mixing of the neutral Higgs bosons due to the CP-odd Higgs and the effective complex Yukawa couplings of the charged and neutral Higgs bosons. Within this model, we present the production of a charged Higgs boson in association with a W boson at the LHC, and calculate in detail the cross section and the transverse momentum distribution of the associated W boson.

Dark matter conversion as a source of boost factor for explaining the cosmic ray positron and electron excesses

In interacting multi-component dark matter (DM) models, if the DM components are nearly degenerate in mass and the interactions between them are strong enough, the relatively heavy DM components can be converted into lighter ones at late time after the thermal decoupling. Consequently, the relic density of the lightest DM component can be considerably enhanced at late time. This may contribute to an alternative source of boost factor required to explain the positron and electron excesses reported by the recent DM indirect search experiments such as PAMELA, Fermi-LAT and HESS etc..

Enhancement of dark matter relic density from the late time dark matter conversions

We demonstrate that if the dark matter (DM) in the Universe contains multiple components, the interactions between the DM components may induce DM conversions. It is then possible that the lightest DM component with an annihilation cross section much larger than that of the typical weakly interacting massive particle (WIMP) can obtain a relic density in consistent with the cosmological observations, due to an enhancement from the DM conversion process at late time after the thermal decoupling. This provides an alternative source of large boost factor required to explain the excesses reported by the recent DM indirect search experiments.

Gravitational Contributions to Gauge Green's Functions and Asymptotic Free Power-Law Running of Gauge Coupling

We perform an explicit one-loop calculation for the gravitational contributions to the two-, three- and four-point gauge Green's functions with paying attention to the quadratic divergences. It is shown for the first time in the diagrammatic calculation that the Slavnov-Taylor identities are preserved even if the quantum graviton effects are included at one-loop level, such a conclusion is independent of the choice of regularization schemes. We also present a regularization scheme independent calculation based on the gauge condition independent background field framework of Vilkovisky-DeWitt's effective action with focusing on both the quadratic divergence and quartic divergence that is not discussed before. With the harmonic gauge condition, the results computed by using the traditional background field method can consistently be recovered from the Vilkovisky-DeWitt's effective action approach by simply taking a limiting case, and are found to be the same as the ones yielded by the diagrammatic calculation. As a consequence, in all the calculations, the symmetry-preserving and divergent-behavior-preserving loop regularization method can consistently lead to a nontrivial gravitational contribution to the gauge coupling constant with an asymptotic free power-law running at one loop near the Planck scale.

Modelling Time-varying Dark Energy with Constraints from Latest Observations

We introduce a set of two-parameter models for the dark energy equation of state (EOS) $w(z)$ to investigate time-varying dark energy. The models are classified into two types according to their boundary behaviors at the redshift $z=(0,\infty)$ and their local extremum properties. A joint analysis based on four observations (SNe + BAO + CMB + $H_0$) is carried out to constrain all the models. It is shown that all models get almost the same $χ^2_{min}\simeq 469$ and the cosmological parameters $(Ω_M, h, Ω_bh^2)$ with the best-fit results $(0.28, 0.70, 2.24)$, although the constraint results on two parameters $(w_0, w_1)$ and the allowed regions for the EOS $w(z)$ are sensitive to different models and a given extra model parameter. For three of Type I models which have similar functional behaviors with the so-called CPL model, the constrained two parameters $w_0$ and $w_1$ have negative correlation and are compatible with the ones in CPL model, and the allowed regions of $w(z)$ get a narrow node at $z\sim 0.2$. The best-fit results from the most stringent constraints in Model Ia give $(w_0,w_1) = (-0.96^{+0.26}_{-0.21}, -0.12^{+0.61}_{-0.89})$ which may compare with the best-fit results $(w_0,w_1) = (-0.97^{+0.22}_{-0.18}, -0.15^{+0.85}_{-1.33})$ in the CPL model. For four of Type II models which have logarithmic function forms and an extremum point, the allowed regions of $w(z)$ are found to be sensitive to different models and a given extra parameter. It is interesting to obtain two models in which two parameters $w_0$ and $w_1$ are strongly correlative and appropriately reduced to one parameter by a linear relation $w_1 \propto (1+w_0)$.

Predictive AdS/QCD Model for Mass Spectra of Mesons with Three Flavors

The predictive soft-wall AdS/QCD model with a modified 5D metric at the infrared region is constructed to obtain a non-trivial dilaton solution for three flavor quarks $u$, $d$ and $s$. Such a model is shown to incorporate both the chiral symmetry breaking and linear confinement. After considering some high-order terms including the $U(1)_L\times U(1)_R$ chiral symmetry breaking term, we find that the resulting predictions for the SU(3) octet and singlet resonance states of pseudoscalar, scalar, vector and axial-vector mesons agree well with the experimentally confirmed resonance states. Contributions from the instanton effects given by the determinant term are also discussed. It is observed that the chiral symmetry breaking phenomena of $SU(3)_L\times SU(3)_R$ and $U(1)_L\times U(1)_R$ can be well described in this model, while the SU(3) flavor symmetry breaking effect due to quark mass difference in the source term is not enough to explain all of the current experimental data.

The Explicit Derivation of QED Trace Anomaly in Symmetry-Preserving Loop Regularization at One Loop Level

The QED trace anomaly is calculated at one-loop level based on the loop regularization method which is realized in 4-dimensional spacetime and preserves gauge symmetry and Poincare symmetry in spite of the introduction of two mass scales, namely the ultraviolet (UV) cut-off $M_c$ and infrared (IR) cut-off $μ_s$. It is shown that the dilation Ward identity which relates the three-point diagrams with the vacuum polarization diagrams gets the standard form of trace anomaly through quantum corrections in taking the consistent limit $M_c\to \infty$ and $μ_s = 0$ which recovers the original integrals. This explicitly demonstrates that the loop regularization method is indeed a self-consistent regularization scheme which is applicable to the calculations not only for the chiral anomaly but also for the trace anomaly, at least at one-loop level. It is also seen that the consistency conditions which relates the tensor-type and scalar-type irreducible loop integrals (ILIs) are crucial for obtaining a consistent result. As a comparison, we also present the one-loop calculations by using the usual Pauli-Villars regularization and the dimensional regularization.

Based on an approximate six-quark operator effective Hamiltonian from perturbative QCD, we present a systematical study of charmless $B \to PP, PV, VV$ decays ($P$ and $V$ denoting pseudoscalar and vector mesons, respectively). Important classes of power corrections include "chirally-enhanced" terms, vertex corrections and weak annihilation contributions with non-trivial strong phase. With these considerations, predictions are presented for the branching ratios and CP asymmetries of B-meson decays into PP, PV and VV final states, and also for the corresponding polarization observables in VV final states. Several decay modes and observables, which are of particular interest phenomenologically, are discussed in detail, including the effect of annihilation amplitude with strong phase, the $ππ$, $πK$ and $πρ$ systems, the longitudinal polarization fraction $f_L$ in $ρK^*$ and $ϕK^*$ systems and so on. Chiral Magnetic Effect and Chiral Phase Transition

We study the influence of the chiral phase transition on the chiral magnetic effect. The azimuthal charge-particle correlations as functions of the temperature are calculated. It is found that there is a pronounced cusp in the correlations as the temperature reaches its critical value for the QCD phase transition. It is predicted that there will be a drastic suppression of the charge-particle correlations as the collision energy in RHIC decreases to below a critical value. We show then the azimuthal charge-particle correlations can be the signal to identify the occurrence of the QCD phase transitions in RHIC energy scan experiments.

Chiral Magnetic Effect and QCD Phase Transitions with Effective Models

We study the influence of the chiral phase transition on the chiral magnetic effect. The chiral electric current density along the magnetic field, the electric charge difference between on each side of the reaction plane, and the azimuthal charged-particle correlations as functions of the temperature during the QCD phase transitions are calculated. It is found that with the decrease of the temperature, the chiral electric current density, the electric charge difference, and the azimuthal charged-particle correlations all get a sudden suppression at the critical temperature of the chiral phase transition, because the large quark constituent mass in the chiral symmetry broken phase quite suppresses the axial anomaly and the chiral magnetic effect. We suggest that the azimuthal charged-particle correlations (including the correlators divided by the total multiplicity of produced charged particles which are used in current experiments and another kind of correlators not divided by the total multiplicity) can be employed to identify the occurrence of the QCD phase transitions in RHIC energy scan experiments.

Exploration of decaying dark matter in a left-right symmetric model

$SU(2)_L$ triplet scalars appear in models motivated for the left-right symmetry, neutrino masses and dark matter (DM), etc.. If the triplets are the main decay products of the DM particle, and carry nonzero lepton numbers, they may decay dominantly into lepton pairs, which can naturally explain the current experimental results reported by PAMELA and Fermi-LAT or ATIC. We discuss this possibility in an extended left-right symmetric model in which the decay of DM particle is induced by tiny soft charge-conjugation ($C$) violating interactions, and calculate the spectra for cosmic-ray positrons, neutrinos and gamma-rays. We show that the DM signals in the flux of high energy neutrinos can be significantly enhanced, as the triplets couple to both charged leptons and neutrinos with the same strength. In this scenario, the predicted neutrino-induced muon flux can be several times larger than the case in which DM particle only directly decays into charged leptons. In addition, the charged components of the triplet may give an extra contribution to the high energy gamma-rays through internal bremsstrahlung process, which depends on the mass hierarchy between the DM particle and the triplet scalars.

Fluctuations and Correlations of Conserved Charges in QCD at Finite Temperature with Effective Models

We study fluctuations of conserved charges including baryon number, electric charge, and strangeness as well as the correlations among these conserved charges in the 2+1 flavor Polyakov--Nambu--Jona-Lasinio model at finite temperature. The calculated results are compared with those obtained from recent lattice calculations performed with an improved staggered fermion action at two values of the lattice cutoff with almost physical up and down quark masses and a physical value for the strange quark mass. We find that our calculated results are well consistent with those obtained in lattice calculations except for some quantitative differences for fluctuations related with strange quarks. Our calculations indicate that there is a pronounced cusp in the ratio of the quartic to quadratic fluctuations of baryon number, i.e. $χ_{4}^{B}/χ_{2}^{B}$, at the critical temperature during the phase transition, which confirms that $χ_{4}^{B}/χ_{2}^{B}$ is a useful probe of the deconfinement and chiral phase transition.

Fluctuations and Correlations of Conserved Charges near the QCD Critical Point

We study the fluctuations and correlations of conserved charges, i.e. the baryon number, electric charge and the strangeness at finite temperature and nonzero baryon chemical potential with an effective model. The fluctuations are calculated up to the fourth-order and the correlations to the third-order. We find that the second-order fluctuations and correlations have a peak or valley structure when the chiral phase transition takes place with the increase of the baryon chemical potential; the third-order fluctuations and correlations change their signs during the chiral phase transition and the fourth-order fluctuations have two maximum and one minimum. we also depict contour plots of various fluctuations and correlations of conserved charges in the plane of temperature and baryon chemical potential. We find that higher order fluctuations and correlations of conserved charges are superior to the second-order ones to be used to search for the critical point in heavy ion collision experiments.

Fourth-order Correlations of Conserved Charges in the QCD Thermodynamics

The fourth-order correlations of conserved charges, such as the baryon number, electric charge, and strangeness, are studied at finite temperature and nonzero baryon chemical potential in an effective model. It is found that the fourth-order correlations change rapidly and have three extrema during the chiral crossover with the increase of the baryon chemical potential. The absolute values of the extrema approach infinity when the thermodynamical system moves toward the QCD critical point and the fourth-order correlations are divergent at the critical point. The contour plots of the fourth-order correlations in the plane of the temperature and baryon chemical potential are given. It is noticed that all the fourth-order correlations of conserved charges, except for $χ_{13}^{BS}$ and $χ_{13}^{QS}$, are excellent probes to explore the QCD critical point in heavy ion collision experiments.

Gravitational Contributions to the Running of Gauge Couplings

Gravitational contributions to the running of gauge couplings are calculated by using different regularization schemes. As the $β$ function concerns counter-terms of dimension four, only quadratic divergences from the gravitational contributions need to be investigated. A consistent result is obtained by using a symmetry-preserving loop regularization with string-mode regulators which can appropriately treat the quadratic divergences and preserve non-abelian gauge symmetry. The harmonic gauge condition for gravity is used in both diagrammatical and background field calculations, the resulting gravitational corrections to the $β$ function are found to be nonzero, which is different from previous results presented in the existing literatures.

Heavy Quark Expansion in 1/\hat{m}_Q and |V_{cb}| Extraction

The dressed heavy quark mass \hat{m}_Q=m_Q+\bar{Λ} with \bar{Λ} being the binding energy is introduced to characterize the heavy hadrons containing a single heavy quark. A heavy quark expansion in terms of the inverse of the dressed heavy quark mass 1/\hat{m}_Q is presented with a complete decomposition of the full field and integrating out the small components. The heavy quark-antiquark coupling effects are included in the finite mass corrections. It is shown that the 1/\hat{m}_Q expansion is more favorable in application. The extraction of |V_{cb}| from exclusive B decays is studied by using such a new expansion approach.

Neutral Higgs production on LHC in the two-Higgs-doublet model with spontaneous $CP$ violation

Spontaneous CP violation motivates the introduction of two Higgs doublets in the electroweak theory, such a simple extension of the standard model has five physical Higgs bosons and rich CP-violating sources. Exploration on more than one Higgs boson is a direct evidence for new physics beyond the standard model. The neutral Higgs production at LHC is investigated in such a general two Higgs doublet model with spontaneous CP violation, it is shown that the production cross section and decays of the neutral Higgs boson can significantly be different from the predictions from the standard model.

Prediction for the Mass Spectra of Resonance Mesons in the Soft-Wall AdS/QCD with a Modified 5D Metric

A soft-wall anti-de Sitter/QCD model with a modified five-dimensional metric at the infrared region is constructed to obtain a nontrivial dilaton solution, which incorporates the chiral symmetry breaking and linear confinement. By taking the pion mass and decay constant as two input mass scales, the resulting predictions for the resonance states of pseudoscalar, scalar, vector and axial-vector mesons agree remarkably with the experimentally confirmed resonance states. The effects of the quartic interaction term are investigated by taking an appropriate sign and magnitude for maintaining the stability of the bulk scalar potential. It is shown that such a simply modified soft-wall anti-de Sitter/QCD model can lead to a consistent prediction for the mass spectra of resonance states in the pseudoscalar, scalar, vector and axial-vector mesons; the agreement with the experimental data is found to be better than 10% for the excited meson states. The resulting pion form factor also agrees well with the experimental data.

Searching for Dark Matter Signals in the Left-Right Symmetric Gauge Model with CP Symmetry

We investigate singlet scalar dark matter (DM) candidate in a left-right symmetric gauge model with two Higgs bidoublets (2HBDM) in which the stabilization of the DM particle is induced by the discrete symmetries P and CP. According to the observed DM abundance, we predict the DM direct and indirect detection cross sections for the DM mass range from 10 GeV to 500 GeV. We show that the DM indirect detection cross section is not sensitive to the light Higgs mixing and Yukawa couplings except the resonance regions. The predicted spin-independent DM-nucleon elastic scattering cross section is found to be significantly dependent on the above two factors. Our results show that the future DM direct search experiments can cover the most parts of the allowed parameter space. The PAMELA antiproton data can only exclude two very narrow regions in the 2HBDM. It is very difficult to detect the DM direct or indirect signals in the resonance regions due to the Breit-Wigner resonance effect.

The real singlet scalar dark matter model

We present an undated comprehensive analysis for the simplest dark matter model in which a real singlet scalar with a $Z_2$ symmetry is introduced to extend the standard model. According to the observed dark matter abundance, we predict the dark matter direct and indirect detection cross sections for the whole parameter space. The Breit-Wigner resonance effect has been considered to calculate the thermally averaged annihilation cross section. It is found that three regions can be excluded by the current direct and indirect dark matter search experiments. In addition, we also discuss the implication of this model for the Higgs searches at colliders.

Time-Varying Dark Energy Constraints From the Latest SN Ia, BAO and SGL

Based on the latest SNe Ia data provided by Hicken et al. (2009) with using MLCS17 light curve fitter, together with the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation(BAO) and strong gravitational lenses(SGL), we investigate the constraints on the dark energy equation-of-state parameter $w$ in the flat universe, especially for the time-varying case $w(z)=w_0+w_zz/(1+z)$. The constraints from SNe data alone are found to be: (a) $(Ω_M, w)=(0.358, -1.09)$ as the best-fit results; (b) $(w_0, w_z)=(-0.73^{+0.23}_{-0.97}, 0.84^{+1.66}_{-10.34})$ for the two parameters in the time-varying case after marginalizing the parameter $Ω_M$; (c) the likelihood of parameter $w_z$ has a high non-Gaussian distribution; (d) an extra restriction on $Ω_M$ is necessary to improve the constraint of the SNe Ia data on the parameters ($w_0$, $w_z$). A joint analysis of SNe Ia data and BAO is made to break the degeneracy between $w$ and $Ω_M$, and leads to the interesting maximum likelihoods $w_0 = -0.94$ and $w_z = 0$. When marginalizing the parameter $Ω_M$, the fitting results are found to be $(w_0, w_z)=(-0.95^{+0.45}_{-0.18}, 0.41^{+0.79}_{-0.96})$. After adding the splitting angle statistic of SGL data, a consistent constraint is obtained $(Ω_M, w)=(0.298, -0.907)$ and the constraints on time-varying dark energy are further improved to be $(w_0, w_z) = (-0.92^{+0.14}_{-0.10}, 0.35^{+0.47}_{-0.54})$, which indicates that the phantom type models are disfavored.

QCD Factorization Based on Six-Quark Operator Effective Hamiltonian from Perturbative QCD and Charmless Bottom Meson Decays $B_{(s)}\to ππ,πK, KK$

The charmless bottom meson decays are systematically investigated based on an approximate six quark operator effective Hamiltonian from perturbative QCD. It is shown that within this framework the naive QCD factorization method provides a simple way to evaluate the hadronic matrix elements of two body mesonic decays. The singularities caused by on mass-shell quark propagator and gluon exchanging interaction are appropriately treated. Such a simple framework allows us to make theoretical predictions for the decay amplitudes with reasonable input parameters. The resulting theoretical predictions for all the branching ratios and CP asymmetries in the charmless $B^0, B^+, B_s\to ππ, πK, KK$ decays are found to be consistent with the current experimental data except for a few decay modes. The observed large branching ratio in $B\to π^0π^0$ decay remains a puzzle though the predicted branching ratio may be significantly improved by considering the large vertex corrections in the effective Wilson coefficients. More precise measurements of charmless bottom meson decays, especially on CP-violations in $B\to K K$ and $B_s\to ππ, πK, KK$ decay modes, will provide a useful test and guide us to a better understanding on perturbative and nonperturbative QCD.

Constraining Charming Penguins in Charmless B Decays

We discuss the correlations of charming penguin contributions to $B\toππ$, $πK$ and KK using approximate flavor SU(3) symmetry. Strong constraints are found from the direct CP asymmetries especially in $πK$ modes. We make a global fit to the latest data and find that only a small charming penguin is allowed, and the size of color-suppressed tree amplitude (C) relative to tree amplitudes (T) remains large $C/T\simeq0.6$, which disfavors the possibility of a large charming penguin as an explanation for the $ππ$ puzzle. We show that a small charming penguin can still have sizable effect in the time-dependence CP asymmetries in KK mode.

AdS/QCD Phenomenological Models from a Back-Reacted Geometry

We construct a fully back-reacted holographic dual of a four-dimensional field theory which exhibits chiral symmetry breaking. Two possible models are considered by studying the effects of a five-dimensional field, dual to the $q\bar{q}$ operator. One model has smooth geometry at all radii and the other dynamically generates a cutoff at finite radius. Both of these models satisfy Einstein's field equations. The second model has only three free parameters, as in QCD, and we show that this gives phenomenologically consistent results. We also discuss the possibility that in order to obtain linear confinement from a back-reacted model it may be necessary to consider the condensate of a dimension two operator.

Embedding Flipped SU(5) into SO(10)

We embed the flipped SU(5) models into the SO(10) models. After the SO(10) gauge symmetry is broken down to the flipped SU(5) \times U(1)_X gauge symmetry, we can split the five/one-plets and ten-plets in the spinor \mathbf{16} and \mathbf{\bar{16}} Higgs fields via the stable sliding singlet mechanism. As in the flipped SU(5) models, these ten-plet Higgs fields can break the flipped SU(5) gauge symmetry down to the Standard Model gauge symmetry. The doublet-triplet splitting problem can be solved naturally by the missing partner mechanism, and the Higgsino-exchange mediated proton decay can be suppressed elegantly. Moreover, we show that there exists one pair of the light Higgs doublets for the electroweak gauge symmetry breaking. Because there exist two pairs of additional vector-like particles with similar intermediate-scale masses, the SU(5) and U(1)_X gauge couplings can be unified at the GUT scale which is reasonably (about one or two orders) higher than the SU(2)_L \times SU(3)_C unification scale. Furthermore, we briefly discuss the simplest SO(10) model with flipped SU(5) embedding, and point out that it can not work without fine-tuning.

Spin Polarisability of the Nucleon in the Heavy Baryon Effective Field Theory

We have constructed a heavy baryon effective field theory with photon as an external field in accordance with the symmetry requirements similar to the heavy quark effective field theory. By treating the heavy baryon and anti-baryon equally on the same footing in the effective field theory, we have calculated the spin polarisabilities $γ_i, i=1...4$ of the nucleon at third order and at fourth-order of the spin-dependent Compton scattering. At leading order (LO), our results agree with the corresponding results of the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory, at the next-to-leading order(NLO) the results show a large correction to the ones in the heavy baryon chiral perturbation theory due to baryon-antibaryon coupling terms. The low energy theorem is satisfied both at LO and at NLO. The contributions arising from the heavy baryon-antibaryon vertex were found to be significant and the results of the polarisabilities obtained from our theory is much closer to the experimental data.

Dynamically Spontaneous Symmetry Breaking and Masses of Lightest Nonet Scalar Mesons as Composite Higgs Bosons

Based on the (approximate) chiral symmetry of QCD Lagrangian and the bound state assumption of effective meson fields, a nonlinearly realized effective chiral Lagrangian for meson fields is obtained from integrating out the quark fields by using the new finite regularization method. As the new method preserves the symmetry principles of the original theory and meanwhile keeps the finite quadratic term given by a physically meaningful characteristic energy scale $M_c$, it then leads to a dynamically spontaneous symmetry breaking in the effective chiral field theory. The gap equations are obtained as the conditions of minimal effective potential in the effective theory. The instanton effects are included via the induced interactions discovered by 't Hooft and found to play an important role in obtaining the physical solutions for the gap equations. The lightest nonet scalar mesons($σ$, $f_0$, $a_0$ and $κ$) appearing as the chiral partners of the nonet pseudoscalar mesons are found to be composite Higgs bosons with masses below the chiral symmetry breaking scale $Λ_χ \sim 1.2$ GeV. In particular, the mass of the singlet scalar (or the $σ$) is found to be $m_σ \simeq 677$ MeV.

Isospin relation and SU(3) breaking effects of strong phases in Charmless B decays

Isospin and flavor SU(3) relations in charmless hadronic B decays $B\to ππ, πK$ are investigated in detail with paying attention to the SU(3) symmetry breaking effects in both amplitudes and strong phases. In general, the isospin and the flavor SU(3) structure of the effective Hamiltonian provide several relations among the amplitudes and strong phases. Whereas a global fit to the latest data shows that some relation seems not to be favorable for a consistent explanation to the current data within the standard model (SM). By considering several patterns of SU(3) breaking, the amplitudes and the corresponding strong phases are extracted and compared with the theoretical estimations. It is found that in the case of SU(3) limits and also the case with SU(3) breaking only in amplitudes, the fitting results lead to an unexpected large ratio between two isospin amplitudes $a^{c}_{3/2}/a^{u}_{3/2}$, which is about an order of magnitude larger than the SM prediction. The results are found to be insensitive to the weak phase $γ$. By including SU(3) breaking effects on the strong phases, one is able to obtain a consistent fit to the current data within the SM, which implies that the SU(3) breaking effect on strong phases may play an important role in understanding the observed charmless hadronic B decay modes $B\to ππ$ and $πK$. It is possible to test those breaking effects in the near future from more precise measurements of direct CP violation in B factories.

A New Prediction for Direct CP Violation ε'/εand ΔI = 1/2 Rule

The low energy dynamics of QCD is investigated with special attention paid to the matching between QCD and chiral perturbation theory(ChPT), and also to some useful algebraic chiral operator relations which survive even when we include chiral loop corrections. It then allows us to evaluate the hadronic matrix elements below the energy scale $Λ_χ \simeq 1$ GeV. Based on the new analyzes, we present a consistent prediction for both direct CP-violating parameter $ε'/ε$ and $ΔI =1/2$ rule in the kaon decays. In the leading $1/N_c$ approximation, the isospin amplitudes $A_0$ and $A_2$ are found to agree well with the data, and the direct CP-violating parameter $ε'/ε$ is predicted to be large, which also confirms our early conclusion. Its numerical value is $ε'/ε= 23.6^{+12.4}_{-7.8}\times 10^{-4}(Imλ_t/1.2\times 10^{-4})$ which is no longer sensitive to the strange quark mass due to the matching conditions. Taking into account a simultaneous consistent analysis on the isospin amplitudes $A_0$ and $A_2$, the ratio $ε'/ε$ is in favor of the values $ε'/ε= (20\pm 9)\times 10^{-4}$.

Implication of $\sin 2β$ from global fit and $B\to J/ψK_S$

The measurement of $\sin 2 β$ is discussed within and beyond the standard model. In the presence of new physics, the angle $β$ extracted from the global fit(denoted by $β^{SM}_{fit}$) and the one extracted from $B\to J/ψK_S$ (denoted by $β_{J/ψ}$) are in general all different from the 'true' angle $β$ which is the weak phase of CKM matrix element $V^*_{td}$. Possible new physics effects on the ratio $R_β=\sin2β_{J/ψ}/\sin 2β^{SM}_{fit}$ is studied and parameterized in a most general form. It is shown that the ratio $R_β$ may provide a useful tool in probing new physics. The experimental value of $R_β$ is obtained through an update of the global fit of the unitarity triangle with the latest data and found to be less than unity at 1$σ$ level. The new physics effects on $R_β$ from the models with minimum flavor violation (MFV) and the standard model with two-Higgs-doublet (S2HDM) are studied in detail. It is found that the MFV models seem to give a relative large value $R_β\geq 1$. With the current data, this may indicate that this kind of new physics may be disfavored and alternative new physics with additional phases appears more relevant. As an illustration for models with additional phase beyond CKM phase, the S2HDM effects on $R_β$ are studied and found to be easily coincide with the data due to the flavor changing neutral Higgs interaction.

Muon anomalous magnetic moment in the standard model with two Higgs doublets

The muon anomalous magnetic moment is investigated in the standard model with two Higgs doublets (S2HDM) motivated from spontaneous CP violation. Thus all the effective Yukawa couplings become complex. As a consequence of the non-zero phase in the couplings, the one loop contribution from the neutral scalar bosons could be positive and negative relying on the CP phases. The interference between one and two loop diagrams can be constructive in a large parameter space of CP-phases. This will result in a significant contribution to muon anomalous magnetic moment even in the flavor conserving process with a heavy neutral scalar boson ($m_h \sim$ 200 GeV) once the effective muon Yukawa coupling is large ($|ξ_μ|\sim 50$). In general, the one loop contributions from lepton flavor changing scalar interactions become more important. In particular, when all contributions are positive in a reasonable parameter space of CP phases, the recently reported 2.6 sigma experiment vs. theory deviation can be easily explained even for a heavy scalar boson with a relative small Yukawa coupling in the S2HDM.

Spontaneous Breaking of Flavor Symmetry and Naturalness of Nearly Degenerate Neutrino Masses and Bi-maximal Mixing

The gauge model with $SO(3)_{F}$ flavor symmetry and three Higgs triplets is studied. We show how the intriguing nearly degenerate neutrino mass and bi-maximal mixing scenario comes out naturally after spontaneous breaking of the symmetry. The hierarchy between the neutrino mass-squared differences, which is needed for reconciling both solar and atmospheric neutrino data, is naturally resulted from an approximate permutation symmetry. The model can also lead to interesting phenomena on lepton-flavor violations via the $SO(3)_{F}$ gauge interactions.

Weak Phase $γ$ and Strong Phase $δ$ from CP Averaged $B\to ππ$ and $πK$ Decays

Assuming SU(3) symmetry for the strong phases in the four decay modes $B\rarrow π^-π^+, π^0 π^+, π^- K^+, π^- \bar{K}^0$ and ignoring the relative small electroweak penguin effects in those decays, the weak phase $γ$ and the strong phase $δ$ can be determined in a model independent way by the CP-averaged branching ratios of the four decay modes. It appears that the current experimental data for $B\to ππ$ and $πK$ decays prefer a negative value of $\cosγ\cosδ$. By combining with the other constraints from $V_{ub}$, $B^{0}_{d,s}-\bar{B}^{0}_{d,s}$ mixings and indirect CP-violating parameter $ε_K$ within the standard model, two favorable solutions for the phases $γ$ and $δ$ are found to lie in the region: $35^{\circ}\altγ\alt 62^{\circ}$ and $106^{\circ}\alt δ\alt 180^{\circ}$ or $86^{\circ}\altγ\alt 151^{\circ}$ and $0^{\circ}\altδ\alt 75^{\circ} $ within 1$σ$ standard deviation. It is noted that if allowing the standard deviation of the data to be more than 1$σ$, the two solutions could approach to one solution with a much larger region for the phases $γ$ and $δ$. Direct CP asymme try $a_{ε''}^{(π^- K^+)}$ in $B\rarrow π^-K^+$ decay can be as large as the present experimental upper bound. Direct CP asymmetry $a_{ε''}^{(π^+π^-)}$ in $B\rarrow π^-π^+$ decay can reach up to about 40% at 1$σ$ level.

Nearly Degenerate Mass and Bi-maximal Mixing of Neutrinos in the SO(3) Gauge Model of Leptons

A realistic scheme for masses and mixing of leptons is investigated in the model with gauged SO(3) lepton flavor symmetry. Within this scheme, a nearly `bi-maximal' neutrino mixing pattern with maximal CP-violating phase is found to be the only possible solution for reconciling both solar and atmospheric neutrino flux anomalies. Three Majorana neutrino masses are nearly degenerate and allow to be large enough to play a significant cosmological role. Lepton flavor-violating effects via SO(3) gauge interactions can be as large as the present experimental limits. Masses of the SO(3) gauge bosons are bounded to be above 24 TeV when taking the SO(3) gauge boson mixing angle $θ_{F}$ and coupling constant $g'_{3}$ to be the same as those ($θ_{W}$ and $g$) in the electroweak theory.

Two/Three-Flavor Oscillation and MSW/Vacuum Oscillation Solution of Neutrinos in the SO(3) Gauge Model

Three interesting scenarios for neutrino mixing, i.e., (i) small-large mixing scenario, (ii) nearly bi-maximal mixing scenario and (iii) three-flavor oscillation scenario, are analyzed in connection with three possible assignments of the maximal CP-violating phase after spontaneous symmetry breaking of SO(3) in a model with gauged SO(3) lepton flavor symmetry. As a consequence, it is found that the scenario (ii) is more reliable to be resulted in reconciling both solar and atmospheric neutrino data. Though three Majorana neutrino masses in all scenarios can be nearly degenerate, in the scenarios (ii) and (iii) masses of the neutrinos are allowed to be large enough to play a significant cosmological role and in the scenario (i) the fraction $Ω_ν/Ω_{m}$ is bounded to be $Ω_ν/Ω_{m} < (4-10)%$ for $Ω_{m} = (1.0-0.4)$ and $h=0.6$.

Sources of CP Violation in the Two-Higgs Doublet Model

Assuming CP violation arises solely through the Higgs potential, we develop the most general two-Higgs doublet model. There is no discrete symmetry that distinguishes the two Higgs bosons. It is assumed that an approximate global family symmetry sufficiently suppresses flavor-changing neutral scalar interactions. In addition to a CKM phase, neutral boson mixing, and superweak effects, there can be significant CP violation due to charged Higgs boson exchange. The value of $ε'/ε$ due to this last effect could be as large as in the standard model.
