The Half-period Addition Formulae for Genus Two Hyperelliptic $\wp$ Functions and the Sp(4,$\mathbb{R}$) Lie Group Structure

In the previous study, by using the two-flows Kowalevski top, we have demonstrated that the genus two hyperelliptic functions provide the Sp(4,$\mathbb{R}$)/$Z_2$ $\cong$ SO(3,2) Lie algebra structure. In this study, by directly using the differential equations of the genus two hyperelliptic $\wp$ functions instead of using integrable models, we demonstrate that the half-period addition formula for the genus two hyperelliptic functions provides the order two Sp(4,$\mathbb{R}$) Lie group structure.

Two Flows Kowalevski Top as the Full Genus Two Jacobi's Inversion Problem and Sp(4,$\mathbb{R}$) Lie Group Structure

By using the first and the second flows of the Kowalevski top, we can make the Kowalevski top into the two flows Kowalevski top, which has two time variales. Then we show that equations of the two flows Kowalevski top become those of the full genus two Jacobi inversion problem. In addition to the Lax pair for the first flow, we costruct Lax pair for the second flow. Using the first and the second flows, we show that the Lie group structure of these two Lax pairs is Sp(4,$\mathbb{R}$) $\cong$ SO(3,2). Through the two flows Kowalevski top, we can conclude that the Lie group structure of the genus two hyperelliptic function is Sp(4,$\mathbb{R}$) $\cong$ SO(3,2).

Common Hirota Form Bäcklund Transformation for the Unified Soliton System

We study to unify soliton systems, KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon, through SO(2,1) $\cong$ GL(2,$\mathbb R$) $\cong$ Möbius group point of view, which might be a keystone to exactly solve some special non-linear differential equations. If we construct the $N$-soliton solutions through the KdV type Bäcklund transformation, we can transform different KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon equations and the Bäcklund transformations of the standard form into the same common Hirota form and the same common Bäcklund transformation except the equation which has the time-derivative term. The difference is only the time-dependence and the main structure of the $N$-soliton solutions has same common form for KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon systems. Then the $N$-soliton solutions for the sinh-Gordon equation is obtained just by the replacement from KdV/mKdV $N$-soliton solutions. We also give general addition formulae coming from the KdV type Bäcklund transformation which plays not only an important role to construct the trigonometric/hyperbolic $N$-soliton solutions but also an essential role to construct the elliptic $N$-soliton solutions. In contrast to the KdV type Bäcklund transformation, the well-known mKdV/sinh-Gordon type Bäcklund transformation gives the non-cyclic symmetric $N$-soliton solutions. We give an explicit non-cyclic symmetric 3-soliton solution for KdV/mKdV/sinh-Gordon equations.

Elliptic Solutions for Higher Order KdV Equations

We study higher order KdV equations from the GL(2,$\mathbb{R}$) $\cong$ SO(2,1) Lie group point of view. We find elliptic solutions of higher order KdV equations up to the ninth order. We argue that the main structure of the trigonometric/hyperbolic/elliptic $N$-soliton solutions for higher order KdV equations is the same as that of the original KdV equation. Pointing out that the difference is only the time dependence, we find $N$-soliton solutions of higher order KdV equations can be constructed from those of the original KdV equation by properly replacing the time-dependence. We discuss that there always exist elliptic solutions for all higher order KdV equations.

Holographic QCD: Past, Present, and Future

At the dawn of a new theoretical tool based on the AdS/CFT correspondence for nonperturbative aspects of quantum chromodynamics, we give an interim review on the new tool, holographic QCD, with some of its accomplishment. We try to give an A-to-Z picture of the holographic QCD, from string theory to a few selected top-down holographic QCD models with one or two physical applications in each model. We may not attempt to collect diverse results from various holographic QCD model studies.

Lorentz gauge theory as a model of emergent gravity

We consider a class of Lorentz gauge gravity theories within Riemann-Cartan geometry which admits a topological phase in the gravitational sector. The dynamic content of such theories is determined only by the contortion part of the Lorentz gauge connection. We demonstrate that there is a unique Lagrangian that admits propagating spin one mode in correspondence with gauge theories of other fundamental interactions. Remarkably, despite the R^2 type of the Lagrangian and non-compact structure of the Lorentz gauge group, the model possesses rather a positive-definite Hamiltonian. This has been proved in the lowest order of perturbation theory. This implies further consistent quantization and leads to renormalizable quantum theory. It is assumed that the proposed model describes possible mechanism of emergent Einstein gravity at very early stages of the Universe due to quantum dynamics of contortion.

Interplay between interaction and chiral anomaly in the holographic approach

Strongly coupled conformal field theory appears to describe universal scaling around quantum criticality, where critical exponents reflect the nature of emergent excitations. In particular, novel symmetries can emerge from strong interactions, expected to be responsible for quantum number fractionalization. The underlying mechanism has been proposed that an emergent enhanced symmetry allows a topological term associated with anomaly, which assigns a fermion's quantum number to a topological excitation, referred as the Goldstone-Wilczek current. Although this mechanism has been verified in one dimensional interacting electrons, where either spinons or holons are identified with topological solitons, its generalization to higher dimensions is beyond the field theoretic framework in the respect that interplay between interaction and anomaly cannot be taken into account sincerely within the field theory technique above one dimension. In this study we examine the interplay between correlations and topological terms based on the holographic approach, allowing us to incorporate such nonperturbative quantum effects via solving classical equations of motion but on a curved space. We solve the Einstein-Maxwell-Chern-Simons theory on the Reissner-Nordström-AdS$_5$ in the extremal limit, and uncover novel critical exponents to appear in the current-current correlation functions, where both the emergent locality and the Chern-Simons term play an important role in such critical exponents. We speculate that the corresponding conformal field theory may result from interacting U(1) currents with chiral anomaly at finite density, expected to be applicable to topological insulators with strong interactions, where dyon-type excitations appear to carry nontrivial fermion's quantum numbers.

Quark Number Susceptibility with Finite Quark Mass in Holographic QCD

We study the effect of a finite quark mass on the quark number susceptibility in the framework of holographic QCD. We work in a bottom-up model with a deformed AdS black hole and D3/D7 model to calculate the quark number susceptibility at finite temperature with/without a finite quark chemical potential. As expected the finite quark mass suppresses the quark number susceptibility. We find that at high temperatures $T\ge 600$ MeV the quark number susceptibility of light quarks and heavy quarks are almost equal in the bottom-up model. This indicates that the heavy quark like charm contribution to thermodynamics of a QCD-like system may start to become significant at temperatures $T\sim 600$ MeV. In D3/D7 model, we focus on the competition between the quark chemical potential, which enhances the quark number susceptibility, and the quark mass that suppresses the susceptibility. We observe that depending on the relative values of the quark mass and the quark chemical potential, the quark number susceptibility shows a diverging or converging behavior. We also calculate the chiral susceptibility in D3/D7 model to support the observation made with the quark number susceptibility.

Magnetic conductivity and Chern-Simons Term in Holographic Hydrodynamics of Charged AdS Black Hole

We study the effects of the Chern-Simons term in the hydrodynamics of the five-dimensional Reissner-Nordstrom-AdS background. We work out the decoupling problem of the equations of motion and calculate the retarded Green functions explicitly. We then find that the Chern-Simons term induces the magnetic conductivity caused by the anomaly effect. It is increasing function of temperature running from a non-zero value at zero temperature to the twice the value at infinite temperature.

Notes on the Hidden Conformal Symmetry in the Near Horizon Geometry of the Kerr Black Hole

Toward the Kerr/CFT correspondence for generic non-extremal Kerr black hole, the analysis of scattering amplitudes by near extremal Kerr provides a clue. This pursuit reveals a hidden conformal symmetry in the law frequency wave equation for a scalar field in a certain spacetime region referred to as the near region. For extremal case, the near region is expected to be the near horizon region in which the correspondence via the asymptotic symmetry is studied. We investigate the hidden conformal symmetry in the near horizon limit and consider the relation between the hidden conformal symmetry and the asymptotic symmetry in the near horizon limit. By using an appropriate definition of the quasi-local charge, we obtain the deviation of the entropy from the extremality.

Quark Number Susceptibility with Finite Chemical Potential in Holographic QCD

We study the quark number susceptibility in holographic QCD with a finite chemical potential or under an external magnetic field at finite temperature. We first consider the quark number susceptibility with the chemical potential. We observe that approaching the critical temperature from high temperature regime, the quark number susceptibility divided by temperature square develops a peak as we increase the chemical potential, which confirms recent lattice QCD results. We discuss this behavior in connection with the existence of the critical end point in the QCD phase diagram. We also consider the quark number susceptibility under the external magnetic field. We predict that the quark number susceptibility exhibits a blow-up behavior at low temperature as we raise the value of the magnetic field. We finally spell out some limitations of our study.

Yet Another Realization of Kerr/CFT Correspondence

The correspondence between the Kerr black hole and a boundary CFT has been conjectured recently. The conjecture has been proposed first only for the half of the CFT, namely for left movers. For right movers, the correspondence has been also found out through the suitable asymptotic boundary condition. However, the boundary conditions for these two studies are exclusive to each other. The boundary condition for left movers does not allow the symmetry of right movers, and vice versa. We propose new boundary condition which allows both of left and right movers.

Viscosity Bound, Causality Violation and Instability with Stringy Correction and Charge

Recently, it has been shown that if we consider the higher derivative correction, the viscosity bound conjectured to be $η/s=1/4π$ is violated and so is the causality. In this paper, we consider medium effect and the higher derivative correction simultaneously by adding charge and Gauss-Bonnet terms. We find that the viscosity bound violation is not changed by the charge. However, we find that two effects together create another instability for large momentum regime. We argue the presence of tachyonic modes and show it numerically. The stability of the black brane requires the Gauss-Bonnet coupling constant $λ$($=2α'/l^2$) to be smaller than 1/24. We draw a phase diagram relevant to the instability in charge-coupling space.
