Entanglement production by interaction quenches of quantum chaotic subsystems

The entanglement production in bipartite quantum systems is studied for initially unentangled product eigenstates of the subsystems, which are assumed to be quantum chaotic. Based on a perturbative computation of the Schmidt eigenvalues of the reduced density matrix, explicit expressions for the time-dependence of entanglement entropies, including the von Neumann entropy, are given. An appropriate re-scaling of time and the entropies by their saturation values leads a universal curve, independent of the interaction. The extension to the non-perturbative regime is performed using a recursively embedded perturbation theory to produce the full transition and the saturation values. The analytical results are found to be in good agreement with numerical results for random matrix computations and a dynamical system given by a pair of coupled kicked rotors.

Entanglement and localization transitions in eigenstates of interacting chaotic systems

The entanglement and localization in eigenstates of strongly chaotic subsystems are studied as a function of their interaction strength. Excellent measures for this purpose are the von-Neumann entropy, Havrda-Charv{\' a}t-Tsallis entropies, and the averaged inverse participation ratio. All the entropies are shown to follow a remarkably simple exponential form, which describes a universal and rapid transition to nearly maximal entanglement for increasing interaction strength. An unexpectedly exact relationship between the subsystem averaged inverse participation ratio and purity is derived that infers the transition in the localization as well.

Floquet realization and signatures of one-dimensional anyons in an optical lattice

We propose a simple scheme for realizing the physics of 1D anyons with ultracold bosonic atoms in an optical lattice. It relies on lattice-shaking-induced resonant tunneling against potential off-sets created by a combination of a lattice tilt and strong on-site interactions. No lasers additional to those used for the creation of the optical lattice are required. We also discuss experimental signatures of the continuous interpolation between bosons and fermions when the statistical angle $θ$ is varied from 0 to $π$. Since the anyonic momentum distribution is not measurable in the bosonic representation of the anyon model, we propose to use Friedel oscillations in small systems as an alternative probe.

Records in the classical and quantum standard map

Record statistics is the study of how new highs or lows are created and sustained in any dynamical process. The study of the highest or lowest records constitute the study of extreme values. This paper represents an exploration of record statistics for certain aspects of the classical and quantum standard map. For instance the momentum square or energy records is shown to behave like that of records in random walks when the classical standard map is in a regime of hard chaos. However different power laws is observed for the mixed phase space regimes. The presence of accelerator modes are well-known to create anomalous diffusion and we notice here that the record statistics is very sensitive to their presence. We also discuss records in random vectors and use it to analyze the {\it quantum} standard map via records in their eigenfunction intensities, reviewing some recent results along the way.

Universal scaling of spectral fluctuation transitions for interacting chaotic systems

The spectral properties of interacting strongly chaotic systems are investigated for growing interaction strength. A very sensitive transition from Poisson statistics to that of random matrix theory is found. We introduce a new random matrix ensemble modeling this dynamical symmetry breaking transition which turns out to be universal and depends on a single scaling parameter only. Coupled kicked rotors, a dynamical systems paradigm for such transitions, are compared with this ensemble and excellent agreement is found for the nearest-neighbor-spacing distribution. It turns out that this transition is described quite accurately using perturbation theory.

Random cyclic matrices

We present a Gaussian ensemble of random cyclic matrices on the real field and study their spectral fluctuations. These cyclic matrices are shown to be pseudo-symmetric with respect to generalized parity. We calculate the joint probability distribution function of eigenvalues and the spacing distributions analytically and numerically. For small spacings, the level spacing distribution exhibits either a Gaussian or a linear form. Furthermore, for the general case of two arbitrary complex eigenvalues, leaving out the spacings among real eigenvalues, and, among complex conjugate pairs, we find that the spacing distribution agrees completely with the Wigner distribution for Poisson process on a plane. The cyclic matrices occur in a wide variety of physical situations, including disordered linear atomic chains and Ising model in two dimensions. These exact results are also relevant to two-dimensional statistical mechanics and $ν$-parametrized quantum chromodynamics.

Random reverse-cyclic matrices and screened harmonic oscillator

We have calculated the joint probability distribution function for random reverse-cyclic matrices and shown that it is related to an N-body exactly solvable model. We refer to this well-known model potential as a screened harmonic oscillator. The connection enables us to obtain all the correlations among the particle positions moving in a screened harmonic potential. The density of nontrivial eigenvalues of this ensemble is found to be of the Wigner form and admits a hole at the origin, in contrast to the semicircle law of the Gaussian orthogonal ensemble of random matrices. The spacing distributions assume different forms ranging from Gaussian-like to Wigner.

Record statistics in random vectors and quantum chaos

The record statistics of complex random states are analytically calculated, and shown that the probability of a record intensity is a Bernoulli process. The correlation due to normalization leads to a probability distribution of the records that is non-universal but tends to the Gumbel distribution asymptotically. The quantum standard map is used to study these statistics for the effect of correlations apart from normalization. It is seen that in the mixed phase space regime the number of intensity records is a power law in the dimensionality of the state as opposed to the logarithmic growth for random states.

Kolmogorov stochasticity parameter as a measure of quantum chaos

We propose the Kolmogorov stochasticity parameter, $λ$ for energy level spectra to classify quantum systems with corresponding classical dynamics ranging from integrable to chaotic. We also study the probability distribution function (PDF) of $λ$. Remarkably, the PDF of all the integrable systems studied here is the same and is found to be completely different from the PDF of chaotic systems. We also note that $λ_n$ for $n$ energy levels scales as $λ_n \sim n^{-α}$. Furthermore, with $α$, the stochastic probability (calculated from PDF) is seen to jump by about an order of magnitude as the systems turn chaotic.
