Development of exchange-correlation functionals assisted by machine learning

With the recent rapid progress in the machine-learning (ML), there have emerged a new approach using the ML methods to the exchange-correlation functional of density functional theory. In this chapter, we review how the ML tools are used for this and the performances achieved recently. It is revealed that the ML, not being opposed to the analytical methods, complements the human intuition and advance the development toward the first-principles calculation with desired accuracy.

Electroweak phase transition in the nearly aligned Higgs effective field theory

We investigate the strongly first-order electroweak phase transition using an effective field theoretical approach. The standard effective field theory with finite number truncation of higher dimensional operators fails in the typical parameter space where the strongly first-order phase transition is realized because it cannot describe the non-decoupling quantum effect of new physics beyond the standard model. To parameterize the non-decoupling quantum effect, we employ the nearly aligned Higgs effective theory in which the Higgs potential is parameterized by a Coleman-Weinberg like form. Extending this framework with finite temperature corrections, we study the parameter space for realizing the strongly first-order phase transition, and estimate the gravitational wave produced at the phase transition.

Lepton flavor violations in SUSY models for muon $g-2$ with right-handed neutrinos

We consider supersymmetric (SUSY) models for the muon $g-2$ anomaly without flavor violating masses at the tree-level. The models can avoid LHC constraints and the vacuum stability constraint in the stau-Higgs potential. Although large flavor violating processes are not induced within the framework of minimal SUSY standard model, once we adopt a seesaw model, sizable lepton flavor violating (LFV) processes such as $μ\to e γ$ and $μ\to e$ conversion are induced. These LFV processes will be observed at future experiments such as MEG-II, COMET and Mu2e if right-handed neutrinos are heavier than $10^9$ GeV motivated by the successful leptogenesis. This conclusion is somewhat model independent since Higgs doublets are required to have large soft SUSY breaking masses, leading to flavor violations in a slepton sector via neutrino Yukawa interactions.

A new Higgs effective field theory and the new no-lose theorem

Non-decoupling effects of heavy new particles cannot be described by the standard effective field theory with finite truncation of higher dimensional operators. We propose a new effective field theory in which non-decoupling quantum effects of new physics are correctly described. We discuss vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity in our effective field theory, and we find that the scale of new physics can be estimated if we will observe the Higgs coupling deviation via non-decoupling effects in future collider experiments.

Machine Learning Exchange-Correlation Potential in Time Dependent Density Functional Theory

We propose a machine learning based approach to develop the exchange-correlation potential of time dependent density functional theory (TDDFT). The neural network projection from the time-varying electron densities to the corresponding correlation potentials in the time-dependent Kohn-Sham equation is trained using a few exact datasets for a model system of electron-hydrogen scattering. We demonstrate that this neural network potential can capture the complex structures in the time-dependent correlation potential during the scattering process and provide correct scattering probabilities, which are not obtained by the standard adiabatic functionals. We also show that it is possible to incorporate the nonadiabatic (or memory) effect in the potential with this machine learning technique, which significantly improves the accuracy of the dynamics. The method developed here offers a novel way to improve the exchange-correlation potential of TDDFT, which makes the theory a more powerful tool to study various excited state phenomena.

Oscillating Composite Asymmetric Dark Matter

The asymmetric dark matter (ADM) scenario can solve the coincidence problem between the baryon and the dark matter (DM) abundance when the DM mass is of ${\cal O}(1)\,$GeV. In the ADM scenarios, composite dark matter is particularly motivated, as it can naturally provide the DM mass in the ${\cal O}(1)\,$GeV range and a large annihilation cross section simultaneously. In this paper, we discuss the indirect detection constraints on the composite ADM model. The portal operators connecting the $B-L$ asymmetries in the dark and the Standard Model(SM) sectors are assumed to be generated in association with the seesaw mechanism. In this model, composite dark matter inevitably obtains a tiny Majorana mass which induces a pair-annihilation of ADM at late times. We show that the model can be efficiently tested by the searches for the $γ$-ray from the dwarf spheroidal galaxies and the interstellar electron/positron flux.

Model independent evaluation of the Wilson coefficient of the Weinberg operator in QCD

We derive a Wilson coefficient of a CP-violating purely gluonic dimension-6 operator called the Weinberg operator ($GG\tilde{G}$) generated by a scalar and two fermions at the two-loop level. We do not specify the representation of SU(3)$_c$ for the scalar and the fermions, and thus our result can be applied to a variety of models beyond the standard model. We estimate the nucleon EDMs induced by the Weinberg operator in some examples and discuss the importance of measuring EDMs. It is found that future measurements of the EDMs can probe physics at higher energy scale beyond the reach of collider experiments.

Does unitarity imply finiteness of electroweak oblique corrections at one-loop? - constraining extra neutral Higgs bosons -

Introducing arbitrary number of neutral Higgs bosons in the electroweak symmetry breaking sector, we derive a set of conditions among Higgs couplings which need to be satisfied to maintain the unitarity of the high energy scattering amplitudes of weak gauge bosons at the tree level (unitarity sum rules). It is shown that the unitarity sum rules require the tree level $ρ$ parameter to be 1, without explicitly invoking the custodial symmetry arguments. The one-loop finiteness of the electroweak oblique corrections is automatically guaranteed once these unitarity sum rules are imposed among Higgs couplings. Severe constraints on the lightest Higgs coupling (125GeV Higgs coupling) and the mass of the second lightest Higgs boson are obtained from the unitarity and the results of the electroweak precision tests (oblique parameter measurements). These results are compared with the effective theory of the light Higgs boson, and we find simple relationships between the mass of the second lightest Higgs boson in our framework and the ultraviolet cutoff in the effective theory framework.

Effective Theories for Dark Matter Nucleon Scattering

We reformulate the calculation of the dark matter-nucleon scattering cross sections based on the method of effective field theories. We assume that the scatterings are induced by the exchange of colored mediators, and construct the effective theories by integrating out the colored particles. All of the leading order matching conditions as well as the renormalization group equations are presented. We consider a Majorana fermion, and real scalar and vector bosons for the dark matter and show the results for each case. The treatment for the twist-2 operators is discussed in detail, and it is shown that the scale of evaluating their nucleon matrix elements does not have to be the hadronic scale. The effects of the QCD corrections are evaluated on the assumption that the masses of the colored mediators are much heavier than the electroweak scale. Our formulation is systematic and model-independent, and thus suitable to be implemented in numerical packages, such as micrOMEGAs and DarkSUSY.

Tree level unitarity and finiteness of electroweak oblique corrections

We study perturbative unitarity and electroweak oblique corrections in the electroweak symmetry breaking models including an arbitrary number of neutral Higgs bosons. Requiring the perturbative unitarity of the high energy scattering amplitudes of weak gauge bosons and the neutral Higgs bosons at tree level, we obtain a set of conditions among the Higgs coupling strengths (unitarity sum rules). It is shown that the unitarity sum rules require the tree level rho parameter to be 1 if there are only neutral Higgs bosons. Moreover, we find that the one-loop finiteness of the electroweak oblique corrections is automatically guaranteed once the unitarity sum rules are imposed among the Higgs coupling strengths. Applying the unitarity sum rules, we obtain severe constraints on the mass of the second lightest neutral Higgs boson and the lightest neutral Higgs (a 125GeV Higgs) coupling strength from the results of the electroweak precision tests as well as the unitarity.

Unitarity sum rules, three site moose model, and the ATLAS 2 TeV diboson anomalies

We investigate $W'$ interpretations for the ATLAS 2 TeV diboson anomalies. The roles of the unitarity sum rules, which ensure the perturbativity of the longitudinal vector boson scattering amplitudes, are emphasized. We find the unitarity sum rules and the custodial symmetry are powerful enough to predict various nontrivial relations among $WWZ'$, $WZW'$, $WWh$, $WW'h$ and $ZZ'h$ coupling strengths in a model independent manner. We also perform surveys in the general parameter space of $W'$ models and find the ATLAS 2 TeV diboson anomalies may be interpreted as a $W'$ particle of the three site moose model, i.e., a Kaluza-Klein like particle in a deconstructed extra dimension model. It is also shown that the non standard-model-like Higgs boson is favored by the present data to interpret the ATLAS diboson anomalies as the consequences of the $W'$ and $Z'$ bosons.
