Does unitarity imply finiteness of electroweak oblique corrections at one-loop? - constraining extra neutral Higgs bosons -

Introducing arbitrary number of neutral Higgs bosons in the electroweak symmetry breaking sector, we derive a set of conditions among Higgs couplings which need to be satisfied to maintain the unitarity of the high energy scattering amplitudes of weak gauge bosons at the tree level (unitarity sum rules). It is shown that the unitarity sum rules require the tree level $ρ$ parameter to be 1, without explicitly invoking the custodial symmetry arguments. The one-loop finiteness of the electroweak oblique corrections is automatically guaranteed once these unitarity sum rules are imposed among Higgs couplings. Severe constraints on the lightest Higgs coupling (125GeV Higgs coupling) and the mass of the second lightest Higgs boson are obtained from the unitarity and the results of the electroweak precision tests (oblique parameter measurements). These results are compared with the effective theory of the light Higgs boson, and we find simple relationships between the mass of the second lightest Higgs boson in our framework and the ultraviolet cutoff in the effective theory framework.

Unitarity sum rules, three site moose model, and the ATLAS 2 TeV diboson anomalies

We investigate $W'$ interpretations for the ATLAS 2 TeV diboson anomalies. The roles of the unitarity sum rules, which ensure the perturbativity of the longitudinal vector boson scattering amplitudes, are emphasized. We find the unitarity sum rules and the custodial symmetry are powerful enough to predict various nontrivial relations among $WWZ'$, $WZW'$, $WWh$, $WW'h$ and $ZZ'h$ coupling strengths in a model independent manner. We also perform surveys in the general parameter space of $W'$ models and find the ATLAS 2 TeV diboson anomalies may be interpreted as a $W'$ particle of the three site moose model, i.e., a Kaluza-Klein like particle in a deconstructed extra dimension model. It is also shown that the non standard-model-like Higgs boson is favored by the present data to interpret the ATLAS diboson anomalies as the consequences of the $W'$ and $Z'$ bosons.

The Legacy of Hideki Yukawa, Sin-itiro Tomonaga, and Shoichi Sakata: Some Aspects from their Archives

Hideki Yukawa, Sin-itiro Tomonaga and Shoichi Sakata pioneered nuclear and particle physics and left enduring legacies. Their friendly collaboration and severe competition laid the foundation to bring up the active postwar generation of nuclear and particle physicists in Japan. In this presentation we illustrate milestones of nuclear and particle physics in Japan from 1930's to mid-1940's which have been clarified in Yukawa Hall Archival Library, Tomonaga Memorial Room and Sakata Memorial Archival Library.

The Flavor Structure of the Three-Site Higgsless Model

We study the flavor structure of the three-site Higgsless model and evaluate the constraints on the model arising from flavor physics. We find that current data constrain the model to exhibit only minimal flavor violation at tree level. Moreover, at the one-loop level, by studying the leading chiral logarithmic corrections to chirality-preserving Delta F = 1 and Delta F = 2 processes from new physics in the model, we show that the combination of minimal flavor violation and ideal delocalization ensures that these flavor-changing effects are sufficiently small that the model remains phenomenologically viable.

Identifying Better Effective Higgsless Theories via W_L W_L Scattering

The three site Higgsless model has been offered as a benchmark for studying the collider phenomenology of Higgsless models. In this talk, we present how well the three site Higgsless model performs as a general representative of Higgsless models in describing W_L W_L scattering, and which modifications can make it more representative. We employ general sum rules relating the masses and couplings of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of the gauge fields in continuum and deconstructed Higgsless models as a way to compare the different theories. After comparing the three site Higgsless model to flat and warped continuum Higgsless models, we analyze an extensions of the three site Higgsless model, namely, the Hidden Local Symmetry (HLS) Higgsless model. We demonstrate that W_LW_L scattering in the HLS Higgsless model can very closely approximate scattering in the continuum models, provided that the parameter `a' is chosen to mimic rho-meson dominance of pi-pi scattering in QCD.

W_L W_L Scattering in Higgsless Models: Identifying Better Effective Theories

The three-site model has been offered as a benchmark for studying the collider phenomenology of Higgsless models. In this paper we analyze how well the three-site model performs as a general exemplar of Higgsless models in describing W_L W_L scattering, and which modifications can make it more representative. We employ general sum rules relating the masses and couplings of the Kaluza-Klein (KK) modes of the gauge fields in continuum and deconstructed Higgsless models as a way to compare the different theories. We show that the size of the four-point vertex for the (unphysical) Nambu-Goldstone modes and the degree to which the sum rules are saturated by contributions from the lowest-lying KK resonances both provide good measures of the extent to which a highly-deconstructed theory can accurately describe the low-energy physics of a continuum 5d Higgsless model. After comparing the three-site model to flat and warped continuum models, we analyze extensions of the three-site model to a longer open linear moose with an additional U(1) group and to a ring ("BESS' or "hidden local symmetry") model with three sites and three links. Both cases may be readily analyzed in the framework of the general sum rules. We demonstrate that W_L W_L scattering in the ring model can very closely approximate scattering in the continuum models, provided that the hidden local symmetry parameter `a' is chosen to mimic rho-meson dominance of pion-pion scattering in QCD. The hadron and lepton collider phenomenology of both extended models is briefly discussed, with a focus on the complementary information to be gained from precision measurements of the Z' line shape and ZWW coupling at a high-energy lepton collider.

Generalized Weinberg Sum Rules in Deconstructed QCD

Recently, Son and Stephanov have considered an "open moose" as a possible dual model of a QCD-like theory of chiral symmetry breaking. In this note we demonstrate that although the Weinberg sum rules are satisfied in any such model, the relevant sums converge very slowly and in a manner unlike QCD. Further, we show that such a model satisfies a set of generalized sum rules. These sum rules can be understood by looking at the operator product expansion for the correlation function of chiral currents, and correspond to the absence of low-dimension gauge-invariant chiral symmetry breaking condensates. These results imply that, regardless of the couplings and F-constants chosen, the open moose is not the dual of any QCD-like theory of chiral symmetry breaking. We also show that the generalized sum rules can be "solved", leading to a compact expression for the difference of vector- and axial-current correlation functions. This expression allows for a simple formula for the S parameter (L_10), which implies that S is always positive and of order one in any (unitary) open linear moose model. Therefore the S parameter is positive and order one in any "Higgsless model" based on the continuum limit of a linear moose regardless of the warping or position-dependent gauge-coupling chosen.

Phase Structure of the Gauged Yukawa Model

Based on the ladder Schwinger-Dyson equation, we investigate phase struc- ture of the gauged Yukawa model possessing a global $SU(2)_L \times SU(2)_R$ symmetry and an unbroken (vector-like) gauge symmetry. We show that even when we tune the squared mass of the scalar boson in the Lagrangian to be positive, there still exists the dynamical chiral symmetry breaking due to fermion pair condensate (VEV of the composite scalar) triggered by the strong Yukawa coupling larger than a certain critical value. We find a "nontrivial ultraviolet fixed line" and "renormalized trajectories" in the three-dimensional coupling space of the Yukawa coupling, the gauge cou- pling and the "hopping parameter" of the elementary scalar field. Presence of the gauge coupling is crucial to existence of the fixed line. Implications of the result for the lattice calculation and the top quark condensate model are also discussed.
