The International Linear Collider: Report to Snowmass 2021

The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Its experiments will challenge the Standard Model of particle physics and will provide a new window to look beyond it. This document brings the story of the ILC up to date, emphasizing its strong physics motivation, its readiness for construction, and the opportunity it presents to the US and the global particle physics community.

Proton Decay in SUSY GUTs

I review proton decay in the SUSY SU(5) GUTs assuming the mini-split SUSY breaking model. In the mini-split SUSY breaking model, the squark and slepton masses are O(10^{(2-3)}) TeV while the gaugino masses are O(1) TeV. As the result, even the minimal SUSY SU(5) GUT is still viable in the model. We present the motivation of the mini-split SUSY model and discuss the future prospects of proton decay searches in the SUSY SU(5) GUTs.

A model of electroweakly interacting non-abelian vector dark matter

We propose an electroweakly interacting spin-1 dark matter (DM) model. The electroweak gauge symmetry, SU(2)$_L\times$U(1)$_Y$, is extended into SU(2)$_0\times$SU(2)$_1 \times $SU(2)$_2 \times$U(1)$_Y$. A discrete symmetry exchanging SU(2)$_0$ and SU(2)$_2$ is imposed. This discrete symmetry stabilizes the DM candidate. The spin-1 DM particle ($V^0)$ and its SU(2)$_L$ partners ($V^\pm$) interact with the Standard Model (SM) electroweak gauge bosons without any suppression factors. Consequently, pairs of DM particles efficiently annihilate into the SM particles in the early universe, and the measured value of the DM energy density is easily realized by the thermal freeze-out mechanism. The model also predicts a heavy vector triplet ($W'^\pm$ and $Z'$) in the visible sector. They contribute to the DM annihilation processes. The mass ratio of $Z'$ and $V^0$ determines values of various couplings, and constraints on $W'$ and $Z'$ restrict regions of the parameter space that are viable for DM physics. We investigate the constraints from perturbative unitarity of scalar and gauge couplings, the Higgs signal strength, $W'$ search at the LHC, and DM direct detection experiments. It is found that the relic abundance of $V^0$ explains the right amount of the DM energy density for 3 TeV $\lesssim m_{V^0} \lesssim$ 19 TeV.

Maximum value of the spin-independent cross section in the THDM+a

We investigate the maximum value of the spin-independent cross section ($σ_\text{SI}$) in a dark matter (DM) model called the two-Higgs doublet model + a (THDM+a). This model can explain the measured value of the DM energy density by the freeze-out mechanism. Also, $σ_\text{SI}$ is suppressed by the momentum transfer at the tree level, and loop diagrams give the leading contribution to it. The model prediction of $σ_\text{SI}$ highly depends on values of $c_1$ and $c_2$ that are the quartic couplings between the gauge singlet CP-odd state ($a_0$) and Higgs doublet fields ($H_1$ and $H_2$), $c_1 a_0^2 H_1^\dagger H_1$ and $c_2 a_0^2 H_2^\dagger H_2$. We discuss the upper and lower bounds on $c_1$ and $c_2$ by studying the stability of the electroweak vacuum, the condition for the potential bounded from the below, and the perturbative unitarity. We find that the condition for the stability of the electroweak vacuum gives upper bounds on $c_1$ and $c_2$. The condition for the potential to be bounded from below gives lower bounds on $c_1$ and $c_2$. It also constrains the mixing angle between the two CP-odd states. The perturbative unitarity bound gives the upper bound on the Yukawa coupling between the dark matter and $a_0$ and the quartic coupling of $a_0$. Under these theoretical constraints, we find that the maximum value of the $σ_\text{SI}$ is $\sim 5\times 10^{-47}$ cm$^2$ for $m_A = $ 600 GeV, and the LZ and XENONnT experiments can see the DM signal predicted in this model near future.

To be, or not to be finite? The Higgs potential in Gauge-Higgs Unification

In this paper, we investigate the finiteness of the Higgs effective potential in an ${\rm SU}(\mathcal N)$ Gauge-Higgs Unification (GHU) model defined on ${\bf M}^4\times S^1$. We obtain the Higgs effective potential at the two-loop level and find that it is finite. We also discuss that the Higgs effective potential is generically divergent for three- or higher-loop levels. As an example, we consider an ${\rm SU}(\mathcal N)$ gauge theory on ${\bf M}^5\times S^1$, where the one-loop corrections to the four-Fermi operators are divergent. We find that the Higgs effective potential depends on their counter terms at the three-loop level.

Model independent evaluation of the Wilson coefficient of the Weinberg operator in QCD

We derive a Wilson coefficient of a CP-violating purely gluonic dimension-6 operator called the Weinberg operator ($GG\tilde{G}$) generated by a scalar and two fermions at the two-loop level. We do not specify the representation of SU(3)$_c$ for the scalar and the fermions, and thus our result can be applied to a variety of models beyond the standard model. We estimate the nucleon EDMs induced by the Weinberg operator in some examples and discuss the importance of measuring EDMs. It is found that future measurements of the EDMs can probe physics at higher energy scale beyond the reach of collider experiments.

Gauge invariant Barr-Zee type contributions to fermionic EDMs in the two-Higgs doublet models

We calculate all gauge invariant Barr-Zee type contributions to fermionic electric dipole moments (EDMs) in the two-Higgs doublet models (2HDM) with softly broken Z2 symmetry. We start by studying the tensor structure of h to VV' part in the Barr-Zee diagrams, and we calculate the effective couplings in a gauge invariant way by using the pinch technique. Then we calculate all Barr-Zee diagrams relevant for electron and neutron EDMs. We make bounds on the parameter space in type-I, type-II, type-X, and type-Y 2HDMs. The electron and neutron EDMs are complementary to each other in discrimination of the 2HDMs. Type-II and type-X 2HDMs are strongly constrained by recent ACME experiment's result, and future experiments of electron and neutron EDMs may search O(10) TeV physics.

Threshold Corrections to Dimension-six Proton Decay Operators in Non-minimal SUSY SU(5) GUTs

We calculate the high and low scale threshold corrections to the D=6 proton decay mode in supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified theories with higher-dimensional representation Higgs multiplets. In particular, we focus on a missing-partner model in which the grand unified group is spontaneously broken by the 75-dimensional Higgs multiplet and the doublet-triplet splitting problem is solved. We find that in the missing-partner model the D=6 proton decay rate gets suppressed by about 60%, mainly due to the threshold effect at the GUT scale, while the SUSY-scale threshold corrections are found to be less prominent when sfermions are heavy.

Direct Detection of Vector Dark Matter

In this paper we complete formulae for the elastic cross section of general vector dark matter with nucleon in the direct detection at the leading order of the strong coupling constant, assuming that the dark matter is composed of vector particles. As an application of our formulae, the direct detection of the first Kaluza-Klein photon in the minimal universal extra dimension model is discussed. It is found that the cross section is larger than those in the previous works by up to a factor of ten.

Effective Interaction of Electroweak-Interacting Dark Matter with Higgs Boson and Its Phenomenology

We study phenomenology of electroweak-interacting fermionic dark matter (DM) with a mass of $\mathcal{O}(100)$ GeV. Constructing the effective Lagrangian that describes the interactions between the Higgs boson and the SU(2)$_L$ isospin multiplet fermion, we evaluate the electric dipole moment (EDM) of electron, the signal strength of Higgs boson decay to two photons and the spin-independent elastic-scattering cross section with proton. As representative cases, we consider the SU(2)$_L$ triplet fermions with zero/nonzero hypercharges and SU(2)$_L$ doublet fermion. It is found that the electron EDM gives stringent constraints on those model parameter spaces. In the cases of the triplet fermion with zero hypercharge and the doublet fermion, the Higgs signal strength does not deviate from the standard model prediction by more than a few % once the current DM direct detection constraint is taken into account, even if the CP violation is suppressed. On the contrary, $\mathcal{O}(10$-$20)$ % deviation may occur in the case of the triplet fermion with nonzero hypercharge. Our representative scenarios may be tested by the future experiments.

Effective Theories for Dark Matter Nucleon Scattering

We reformulate the calculation of the dark matter-nucleon scattering cross sections based on the method of effective field theories. We assume that the scatterings are induced by the exchange of colored mediators, and construct the effective theories by integrating out the colored particles. All of the leading order matching conditions as well as the renormalization group equations are presented. We consider a Majorana fermion, and real scalar and vector bosons for the dark matter and show the results for each case. The treatment for the twist-2 operators is discussed in detail, and it is shown that the scale of evaluating their nucleon matrix elements does not have to be the hadronic scale. The effects of the QCD corrections are evaluated on the assumption that the masses of the colored mediators are much heavier than the electroweak scale. Our formulation is systematic and model-independent, and thus suitable to be implemented in numerical packages, such as micrOMEGAs and DarkSUSY.

Flavor violating $Z'$ from $SO(10)$ SUSY GUT in High-Scale SUSY

We propose an $SO(10)$ supersymmetric grand unified theory (SUSY GUT), where the $SO(10)$ gauge symmetry breaks down to $SU(3)_c \times SU(2)_L \times U(1)_Y\times U(1)_{X}$ at the GUT scale and $U(1)_X$ is radiatively broken at the SUSY-braking scale. In order to achieve the observed Higgs mass around $126$ GeV and also to satisfy constraints on flavor- and/or CP-violating processes, we assume that the SUSY-breaking scale is $O(100)$ TeV, so that the $U(1)_X$ breaking scale is also $O(100)$ TeV. One big issue in the SO(10) GUTs is how to realize realistic Yukawa couplings. In our model, not only ${\bf 16}$-dimensional but also ${\bf 10}$-dimensional matter fields are introduced to predict the observed fermion masses and mixings. The Standard-Model quarks and leptons are linear combinations of the ${\bf 16}$- and ${\bf 10}$-dimensional fields so that the $U(1)_{X}$ gauge interaction may be flavor-violating. We investigate the current constraints on the flavor-violating $Z'$ interaction from the flavor physics and discuss prospects for future experiments.

Interpretations of the ATLAS Diboson Resonances

The ATLAS collaboration has reported excesses in searches for resonant diboson production decaying into hadronic final states. This deviation from the Standard Model prediction may be a signature of an extra bosonic particle having a mass of around 2 TeV with a fairly narrow width, which implies the presence of a new perturbative theory at the TeV scale. In this paper, we study interpretations of the signal and its implication to physics beyond the Standard Model. We find that the resonance could be regarded as a leptophobic vector particle, which could explain a part of the observed excesses without conflict with the present constraints from other direct searches for heavy vector bosons at the LHC as well as the electroweak precision measurements.

Nucleon Electric Dipole Moments in High-Scale Supersymmetric Models

The electric dipole moments (EDMs) of electron and nucleons are promising probes of the new physics. In generic high-scale supersymmetric (SUSY) scenarios such as models based on mixture of the anomaly and gauge mediations, gluino has an additional contribution to the nucleon EDMs. In this paper, we studied the effect of the $CP$-violating gluon Weinberg operator induced by the gluino chromoelectric dipole moment in the high-scale SUSY scenarios, and we evaluated the nucleon and electron EDMs in the scenarios. We found that in the generic high-scale SUSY models, the nucleon EDMs may receive the sizable contribution from the Weinberg operator. Thus, it is important to compare the nucleon EDMs with the electron one in order to discriminate among the high-scale SUSY models.

QCD Effects on Direct Detection of Wino Dark Matter

We complete the calculation of the wino-nucleon scattering cross section up to the next-to-leading order in $α_s$. We assume that the other sparticles are decoupled and wino interacts with the Standard Model particles via the weak interaction. As a result, the uncertainties coming from the perturbative QCD are significantly reduced to be smaller than those from the nucleon matrix elements. The resultant scattering cross section is found to be larger than the leading-order one by about 70%, which is well above the neutrino background. In the limit of large wino mass the spin-independent scattering cross section with proton turns out $σ_{\text{SI}}^p = 2.3~{}^{+0.2}_{-0.3}~{}^{+0.5}_{-0.4}\times 10^{-47}~ \text{cm}^2$ (errors come from perturbative calculation and input parameters, respectively). The computation for a generic SU(2)$_L$ multiplet dark matter is also presented.

Toward verification of electroweak baryogenesis by electric dipole moments

We study general aspects of the CP-violating effects on the baryon asymmetry of the Universe (BAU) and electric dipole moments (EDMs) in models extended by an extra Higgs doublet and a singlet, together with electroweak-interacting fermions. In particular, the emphasis is on the structure of the CP-violating interactions and dependences of the BAU and EDMs on masses of the relevant particles. In a concrete mode, we investigate a relationship between the BAU and the electron EDM for a typical parameter set. As long as the BAU-related CP violation predominantly exists, the electron EDM has a strong power in probing electroweak baryogenesis. However, once a BAU-unrelated CP violation comes into play, the direct correlation between the BAU and electron EDM can be lost. Even in such a case, we point out that verifiability of the scenario still remains with the help of Higgs physics.

QCD Corrections to Quark (Chromo)Electric Dipole Moments in High-scale Supersymmetry

Recent results from the LHC experiments, both for the Higgs mass measurement and the direct search for supersymmetric (SUSY) particles, might indicate that the SUSY breaking scale is much higher than the electroweak scale. Although it is difficult to investigate such a scenario at collider experiments, the measurement of the hadronic electric dipole moments is one of promising ways to detect the effects of the SUSY particles. These effects are expressed in terms of the CP-violating effective operators defined at the SUSY breaking scale, which involve quarks, gluons, photons, and gluinos. In this paper, we discuss the QCD corrections to the effective operators in the high-scale SUSY scenario. To appropriately evaluate the radiative corrections in the presence of large mass hierarchy among the SUSY particles, we exploit an effective theoretical approach based on the renormalization-group equations. As a result, it is found that the low-energy quark electric and chromoelectric dipole moments may differ from those evaluated in previous works by O(100) % and O(10) %, respectively.

Decoupling Can Revive Minimal Supersymmetric SU(5)

We revisit proton decay via the color-triplet Higgs multiplets in the minimal supersymmetric grand unified model with heavy sfermions. Although the model has been believed to be excluded due to the too short lifetime of proton, we have found that it is possible to evade the experimental constraints on the proton decay rate if the supersymmetric particles have masses much heavier than the electroweak scale. With such heavy sfermions, the 126GeV Higgs boson is naturally explained, while they do not spoil the gauge coupling unification and the existence of dark matter candidates. Since the resultant proton lifetime lies in the regions which may be reached in the future experiments, proton decay searches may give us a chance to verify the scenario as well as the supersymmetric grand unified models.

Direct Search of Dark Matter in High-Scale Supersymmetry

We study direct detection of dark matter in supersymmetric (SUSY) model where most of SUSY particles have very high-scale masses beyond the weak scale. In the scenario, Wino-like or Higgsino-like neutralino is a good candidate for the dark matter in the universe. The neutralino scatters off nuclei by a Higgs-boson exchange diagram and also electroweak loop diagrams. It is found that the elastic-scattering cross section with nuclei is enhanced or suppressed due to constructive or deconstructive interference among the diagrams. Such a cross section is within the reach of future experiment in some parameter region.

Grand Unification in High-scale Supersymmetry

A constraint on masses of superheavy gauge and Higgs multiplets at the grand unification (GUT) scale is obtained from the gauge coupling unification in the case of high-scale supersymmetry. We found that all of the particles may lie around a scale of 10^16 GeV so that the threshold corrections to the gauge coupling constants at the GUT scale are smaller than those in the case of the low-energy supersymmetry. In addition, the GUT scale tends to be slightly lower when the gauginos are heavier and, thus, the proton decay rate via the X-boson exchange process is expected to be enhanced.

Neutron Electric Dipole Moment Induced by the Strangeness Revisited

We have revisited the calculation of the neutron electric dipole moment in the presence of the CP-violating operators up to dimension five based on the chiral perturbation theory. Especially, we focus on the contribution of strangeness content. In the calculation, we extract the nucleon matrix elements of scalar-type quark operators from the results of the lattice QCD simulations, while those of the dipole-type quark-gluon operators are evaluated by using the method of the QCD sum rules. As a result, it is found that although the strangeness quantity in nucleon is small, the contribution of the chromoelectric dipole moment of strange quark may be still sizable, and thus may offer a sensitive probe for the CP-violating interactions in physics beyond the Standard Model.

The Higgs boson mixes with an SU(2) septet representation

We study a possibility of the Higgs boson, which consists of an SU(2) doublet and a septet. The vacuum expectation value of a septet with hypercharge Y=2 is known to preserve the electroweak rho parameter unity at the tree level. Therefore, the septet can give significant contribution to the electroweak symmetry breaking. Due to the mixing with the septet, the gauge coupling of the standard-model-like Higgs boson is larger than that in the standard model. We show the sizable VEV of the Higgs septet can be allowed under the constraint from the electroweak precision data. The signal strengths of the Higgs boson for the diphoton and a pair of weak gauge boson decay channels at the LHC are enhanced, while those for the fermonic decay modes are suppressed. The mass of additional neutral Higgs boson is also bounded by the current LHC data for the standard model Higgs boson. We discussed the phenomenology of the multiply charged Higgs bosons, which come from the septet.

Two-loop Renormalization Factors of Dimension-six Proton Decay Operators in the Supersymmetric Standard Models

The renormalization factors of the dimension-six effective operators for proton decay are evaluated at two-loop level in the supersymmetric grand unified theories. For this purpose, we use the previous results in which the quantum corrections to the effective Kahler potential are evaluated at two-loop level. Numerical values for the factors are presented in the case of the minimal supersymmetric SU(5) grand unified model. We also derive a simple formula for the one-loop renormalization factors for any higher-dimensional operators in the Kahler potential, assuming that they are induced by the gauge interactions.

Charge-breaking constraints on left-right mixing of stau's

In the minimal supersymmetric standard model, large left-right mixing of stau's is sometimes intriguing from phenomenological viewpoints. However, too large left-right mixing is not acceptable since the electroweak-breaking vacuum becomes metastable. In this paper the vacuum transition rate is evaluated by using semiclassical techniques, and constraints on parameters of the model are shown. In the calculation the bounce solution is derived in the multifield space. These constraints are also applied to the case of the low-energy minimal gauge mediation model.

Enhancement of Proton Decay Rates in Supersymmetric SU(5) Grand Unified Models

In the supersymmetric grand unified theories (SUSY GUTs), gauge bosons associated with the unified gauge group induce proton decay. We investigate the proton decay rate via the gauge bosons in the SUSY GUTs under the two situations; one is with extra vector-like multiplets, and the other is with heavy sfermions. It is found that the proton lifetime is significantly reduced in the former case, while in the latter case it is slightly prolonged. Determination of the particle contents and their mass spectrum below the GUT scale is important to predict the proton lifetime. The proton decay searches have started to access to the 10^16 GeV scale.

QCD Corrections to Neutron Electric Dipole Moment from Dimension-six Four-Quark Operators

In this paper, the renormalization-group equations for the (flavor-conserving) CP-violating interaction are derived up to the dimension six, including all the four-quark operators, at one-loop level. We apply them to the models with the neutral scalar boson or the color-octet scalar boson which have CP-violating Yukawa interactions with quarks, and discuss the neutron electric dipole moment in these models.

Reevaluation of Neutron Electric Dipole Moment with QCD Sum Rules

We study the neutron electric dipole moment in the presence of the CP-violating operators up to the dimension five in terms of the QCD sum rules. It is found that the OPE calculation is robust when exploiting a particular interpolating field for neutron, while there exist some uncertainties on the phenomenological side. By using input parameters obtained from the lattice calculation, we derive a conservative limit for the contributions of the CP violating operators. We also show the detail of the derivation of the sum rules.

The effect of quark interactions on dark matter kinetic decoupling and the mass of the smallest dark halos

The kinetic decoupling of dark matter (DM) from the primordial plasma sets the size of the first and smallest dark matter halos. Studies of the DM kinetic decoupling have hitherto mostly neglected interactions between the DM and the quarks in the plasma. Here we illustrate their importance using two frameworks: a version of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) and an effective field theory with effective DM-quark interaction operators. We connect particle physics and astrophysics obtaining bounds on the smallest dark matter halo size from collider data and from direct dark matter search experiments. In the MSSM framework, adding DM-quark interactions to DM-lepton interactions more than doubles the smallest dark matter halo mass in a wide range of the supersymmetric parameter space.

Cosmological constraints on dark matter models with velocity-dependent annihilation cross section

We derive cosmological constraints on the annihilation cross section of dark matter with velocity-dependent structure, motivated by annihilating dark matter models through Sommerfeld or Breit-Wigner enhancement mechanisms. In models with annihilation cross section increasing with decreasing dark matter velocity, big-bang nucleosynthesis and cosmic microwave background give stringent constraints.

Direct Detection of Dark Matter Degenerate with Colored Particles in Mass

In this Letter we explore the direct detection of the dark matter in the universe, assuming the dark matter particles are degenerate in mass with new colored particles below TeV scale. The scenario with such a mass spectrum is difficult to be confirmed or excluded by the present analysis at the LHC experiments because the QCD jets in the cascade decay of the new particles produced in the proton-proton collision are too soft to be triggered in the event selection. It is shown that both of the spin-independent and spin-dependent couplings of the dark matter with a nucleon are enhanced and the scattering cross section may reach even the current bound of the direct detection experiments. Then such a degenerate scenario may be tested in the direct detection experiments.

Direct Detection of Electroweak-Interacting Dark Matter

Assuming that the lightest neutral component in an SU(2)L gauge multiplet is the main ingredient of dark matter in the universe, we calculate the elastic scattering cross section of the dark matter with nucleon, which is an important quantity for the direct detection experiments. When the dark matter is a real scalar or a Majorana fermion which has only electroweak gauge interactions, the scattering with quarks and gluon are induced through one- and two-loop quantum processes, respectively, and both of them give rise to comparable contributions to the elastic scattering cross section. We evaluate all of the contributions at the leading order and find that there is an accidental cancellation among them. As a result, the spin-independent cross section is found to be O(10^-(46-48)) cm^2, which is far below the current experimental bounds.

Gluon contribution to the dark matter direct detection

In this article we have calculated the spin-independent cross section of nucleon-dark matter scattering process at loop level, which is relevant to dark matter direct detection. Paying particular attention to the scattering of gluon with dark matter, which contributes as leading order in the perturbation, we have systematically evaluated loop diagrams with tracking the characteristic loop momentum which dominates in the loops. Here loop diagrams whose typical loop momentum scales are the masses of quarks and other heavier particles are separately presented. Then, we have properly taken into account each contribution to give the cross section. We assume that the dark matter is pure bino or wino in the supersymmetric models. The application to other models is straightforward.

Neutron EDM in Four Generation Standard Model

A fourth generation of quarks, if it exist, may provide sufficient CP violation for the baryon asymmetry of the Universe. We estimate the neutron electric dipole moment in the presence of a fourth generation, and find it would be dominated by the strange quark chromoelectric dipole moment, assuming it does not get wiped out by a Peccei-Quinn symmetry. Both the three electroweak loop and the two-loop electroweak/one-loop gluonic contributions are considered. With m_{b'}, m_{t'} at 500 GeV or so that can be covered at the LHC, and with a Jarlskog CPV factor that is consistent with hints of New Physics in b to s transitions, the neutron EDM is found around 10^{-31}e cm, still far below the 10^{-28}e cm reach of the new experiments being planned or under construction.

A complete calculation for direct detection of Wino dark matter

In the anomaly-mediated supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking scenario, neutral gaugino of SU(2)_L multiplet, Wino, can be the lightest SUSY particle and become a candidate for dark matter. We calculated scattering cross section of Wino dark matter with nucleon, which is responsible for direct detection of the dark matter, on the assumption that the SUSY particles and the heavier Higgs bosons have masses of the order of the gravitino mass in the SUSY standard model. In such a case, the Wino-nucleon coupling is generated by loop processes. We have included two-loop contribution to Wino-gluon interaction in the calculation, since it is one of the leading contributions to the Wino-nucleon coupling. It was found that the spin-independent scattering cross section with proton is 10^-(46-48) cm^2. While it is almost independent of the Wino mass, the result is quite sensitive to the Higgs boson mass due to the accidental cancellation.

Implications of CDMS II result on Higgs sector in the MSSM

We study implications of two dark matter candidate events at CDMS-II on the neutralino dark matter scenario in the supersymmetric standard model, in light of the recent lattice simulation on the strange quark content of a nucleon. The scattering rate of neutralino-nucleon is dominated by Higgs exchange processes and the mass of heavy Higgs boson is predicted for the neutralino of Bino-Higgsino mixing state. In the case of Wino-Higgsino mixing, the Higgs sector may not be constrained.

Reevaluation of Higgs-Mediated mu-e Transition in the MSSM

We discuss the $μ$-$e$ transition processes induced by non-holomorphic Yukawa interactions in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM). When supersymmetry is broken, the coupling structures between Higgs doublets and leptons are modified and flavor-changing neutral currents could be generated. In the framework of the MSSM, we calculate those effects to the rates for $\meg$, $\meee$, and $μ$-$e$ conversion in nuclei. We perform more detailed calculations of the lepton flavor violating (LFV) operators in the heavy Higgs decoupling limit than previous works, and show the accurate $\tanβ$ dependence of them. Furthermore, we compare the contribution to the LFV operators mediated by Higgs bosons with the one generated gaugino/slepton exchange, and discuss the competition between these two effects.

A Realistic Extension of Gauge-Mediated SUSY-Breaking Model with Superconformal Hidden Sector

The sequestering of supersymmetry (SUSY) breaking parameters, which is induced by superconformal hidden sector, is one of the solutions for the mu/B_mu problem in gauge-mediated SUSY-breaking scenario. However, it is found that the minimal messenger model does not derive the correct electroweak symmetry breaking. In this paper we present a model which has the coupling of the messengers with the SO(10) GUT-symmetry breaking Higgs fields. The model is one of the realistic extensions of the gauge mediation model with superconformal hidden sector. It is shown that the extension is applicable for a broad range of conformality breaking scale.

Cosmic Rays from Dark Matter Annihilation and Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis

Recent measurements of cosmic-ray electron and positron fluxes by PAMELA and ATIC experiments may indicate the existence of annihilating dark matter with large annihilation cross section. We show that the dark matter annihilation in the big-bang nucleosynthesis epoch affects the light element abundances, and it gives stringent constraints on such annihilating dark matter scenarios for the case of hadronic annihilation. Constraints on leptonically annihilating dark matter models are less severer.

Neutrino Signals from Annihilating/Decaying Dark Matter in the Light of Recent Measurements of Cosmic Ray Electron/Positron Fluxes

The excess of cosmic-ray electron and positron fluxes measured by the PAMELA satellite and ATIC balloon experiments may be interpreted as the signals of the dark matter annihilation or decay into leptons. In this letter we show that the dark matter annihilation/decay which reproduces the electron/positron excess may yield a significant amount of high-energy neutrinos from the Galactic center. In the case, future kilometer-square size experiments may confirm such a scenario, or even the Super-Kamiokande results already put constraints on some dark matter models.

Positron/Gamma-Ray Signatures of Dark Matter Annihilation and Big-Bang Nucleosynthesis

The positron excess observed by the PAMELA experiment may come from dark matter annihilation, if the annihilation cross section is large enough. We show that the dark matter annihilation scenarios to explain the positron excess may also be compatible with the discrepancy of the cosmic lithium abundances between theory and observations. The wino-like neutralino in the supersymmetric standard model is a good example for it. This scenario may be confirmed by Fermi satellite experiment.

A Complete Analysis of "Flavored" Electric Dipole Moments in Supersymmetric Theories

The Standard Model predictions for the hadronic and leptonic electric dipole moments (EDMs) are well far from the present experimental resolutions, thus, the EDMs represent very clean probes of New Physics effects. Especially, within supersymmetric frameworks with flavor-violating soft terms large and potentially visible effects to the EDMs are typically expected. In this work, we systematically evaluate the predictions for the EDMs at the beyond-leading-order (BLO). In fact, we show that BLO contributions to the EDMs dominate over the leading-order (LO) effects in large regions of the supersymmetric parameter space. Hence, their inclusion in the evaluation of the EDMs is unavoidable. As an example, we show the relevance of BLO effects to the EDMs for a SUSY $SU(5)$ model with right-handed neutrinos.

In supersymmetric models a gluino can decay into tb\tildeχ^{\pm}_1 through a stop or a sbottom. The decay chain produces an edge structure in the m_{tb} distribution. Monte Carlo simulation studies show that the end point and the edge height would be measured at the CERN LHC by using a sideband subtraction technique. The stop and sbottom masses as well as their decay branching ratios are constrained by the measurement. We study interpretations of the measurement in the minimal supergravity model. We also study the gluino decay into tb and \tildeχ^{\pm}_2 as well as the influence of the stop left-right mixing on the m_{bb} distribution of the tagged $tb$ events.

Explosive Dark Matter Annihilation

If the Dark Matter (DM) in the Universe has interactions with the standard-model particle, the pair annihilation may give the imprints in the cosmic ray. In this paper we study the pair annihilation processes of the DM, which is neutral, however has the electroweak (EW) gauge non-singlet. In this estimation the non-relativistic (NR) effective theory in the EW sector is a suitable technique. We find that if the DM mass is larger than about 1 TeV, the attractive Yukawa potentials induced by the EW gauge bosons have significant effects on the DM annihilation processes, and the cross sections may be enhanced by several orders of magnitude, due to the zero energy resonance under the potentials. Especially, the annihilation to two $γ$'s might have a comparable cross section to other tree-level processes, while the cross section under the conventional calculation is suppressed by a loop factor. We also discuss future sensitivities to the $γ$ ray from the galactic center by the GLAST satellite detector and the Air Cerenkov Telescope (ACT) arrays.

GUT relation in Neutrino-Induced Flavor Physics in SUSY SU(5) GUT

In the SUSY SU(5) GUT with the right-handed neutrinos, the neutrino Yukawa coupling induces the flavor-violating mass terms for the right-handed down squarks and left-handed sleptons, and they lead to imprint on the flavor physics in the hadronic and leptonic sectors. In this paper we study CP violation in $B_d^0$ and $B_s^0$, which is induced by the tau-neutrino Yukawa coupling. In particular, we notice the correlation of the CP asymmetries in $B_d^0\to ϕK_s$ ($S_{ϕK_s}$) and $B_s^0\to J/ψϕ$ ($S_{J/ψϕ}$) with other observables, such as $Br(τ\toμγ)$, the muon EDM ($d_μ$), and the mixing-induced CP asymmetry in $B_d^0\to M_s^0γ$ ($A_{bsg}$), since they have a common origin of the CP and flavor violation. The measurements are expected to play a significant role for consistency check of the SUSY SU(5) GUT. The hierarchical right-handed neutrino masses make the correlation better. We find that the current bound on $Br(τ\toμγ)$ constrains the allowed region for $S_{ϕK_s}$ in this model.

On Effective Theory of Brane World with Small Tension

The five dimensional theory compactified on $S^1$ with two ``branes'' (two domain walls) embedded in it is constructed, based on the field-theoretic mechanism to generate the ``brane''. Some light states localized in the ``brane'' appear in the theory. One is the Nambu-Goldstone boson, which corresponds to the breaking of the translational invariance in the transverse direction of the ``brane''. In addition, if the tension of the ``brane'' is smaller than the fundamental scale of the original theory, it is found that there may exist not only massless states but also some massive states lighter than the fundamental scale in the ``brane''. We analyze the four dimensional effective theory by integrating out the freedom of the fifth dimension. We show that some effective couplings can be explicitly calculated. As one of our results, some effective couplings of the state localized in the ``brane'' to the higher Kaluza-Klein modes in the bulk are found to be suppressed by the width of the ``brane''. The resultant suppression factor can be quantitatively different from the one analyzed by Bando et al. using the Nambu-Goto action, while they are qualitatively the same.

Upper Bound on R_b in Two Higgs Doublet Model from Lepton Universality

It has been known that $R_b$ can be enhanced in the two Higgs doublet model if $\tan β$ is large. We point out that a similar enhancement in $Γ(Z \to τ^+ τ^-)$ is large enough to place a constraint on such a possibility. We obtain a 95% CL upper bound $ΔR_b/R_{b} < 0.73%$ in this model for the $\overline{MS}$ mass $m_{b} (m_{Z}) = 3.0$ GeV. The 1996 world average is $ΔR_{b}/R_{b}$ = $0.97% \pm 0.51%$. We used the $m_{b}(m_{Z})$ to determine the bottom Yukawa coupling instead of $m_b(m_{b})$ unlike in previous analyses, and also an improved experimental test of the lepton universality in $Z$ decay, which made our results qualitatively different.
