The International Linear Collider: Report to Snowmass 2021

The International Linear Collider (ILC) is on the table now as a new global energy-frontier accelerator laboratory taking data in the 2030s. The ILC addresses key questions for our current understanding of particle physics. It is based on a proven accelerator technology. Its experiments will challenge the Standard Model of particle physics and will provide a new window to look beyond it. This document brings the story of the ILC up to date, emphasizing its strong physics motivation, its readiness for construction, and the opportunity it presents to the US and the global particle physics community.

Electroweak phase transition in the nearly aligned Higgs effective field theory

We investigate the strongly first-order electroweak phase transition using an effective field theoretical approach. The standard effective field theory with finite number truncation of higher dimensional operators fails in the typical parameter space where the strongly first-order phase transition is realized because it cannot describe the non-decoupling quantum effect of new physics beyond the standard model. To parameterize the non-decoupling quantum effect, we employ the nearly aligned Higgs effective theory in which the Higgs potential is parameterized by a Coleman-Weinberg like form. Extending this framework with finite temperature corrections, we study the parameter space for realizing the strongly first-order phase transition, and estimate the gravitational wave produced at the phase transition.

Implication of the $W$ boson mass anomaly at CDF II in the Higgs triplet model with a mass difference

A new report for the measurement of the W boson mass has been provided by the CDF II experiment. The measured value of the W boson mass is given to be $m_W^{\text{CDF II}} = 80.4335 \pm 0.0094$ GeV which shows $7σ$ deviation from the standard model prediction, while the other groups of high energy experiments, e.g., ATLAS and D0 II, show consistent results with the latter. Assuming that the measurement at CDF II is correct, we discuss the possibility to explain the anomaly in the Higgs triplet model. We find that the anomaly can be explained under the constraints from the electroweak rho parameter, the effective weak mixing angle, the partial width of the leptonic $Z$ decay and current direct searches at LHC when non-zero mass differences among the triplet-like Higgs bosons and the vacuum expectation value of the triplet Higgs field are taken to be ${\cal O}(100)$ GeV and ${\cal O}(1)$ GeV, respectively.

Next-to-leading order corrections to decays of the heavier CP-even Higgs boson in the two Higgs doublet model

We investigate the impact of electroweak (EW), scalar and QCD corrections to the full set of decay branching ratios of an additional CP-even Higgs boson ($H$) in the two Higgs doublet model with a softly broken $Z_2$ symmetry. We employ the improved gauge independent on-shell scheme in the renormalized vertices. We particularly focus on the scenario near the alignment limit in which couplings of the discovered 125 GeV Higgs boson ($h$) coincide with those of the standard model while the $Hhh$ coupling vanishes at tree level. The renormalized decay rate for $H\to hh$ can significantly be changed from the prediction at tree level due to non-decoupling loop effects of additional Higgs bosons, even in the near alignment case. We find that the radiative corrections to the branching ratio of $H\to hh$ can be a few ten percent level in the case with the masses of additional Higgs bosons being degenerate under the constraints of perturbative unitarity, vacuum stability and the EW precision data. Further sizable corrections can be obtained for the case with a mass difference among the additional Higgs bosons.

Primordial black holes as a probe of strongly first-order electroweak phase transition

Primordial black holes can be produced by density fluctuations generated from delayed vacuum decays of first-order phase transition. The primordial black holes generated at the electroweak phase transition have masses of about $10^{-5}$ solar mass. Such primordial black holes in the mass range can be tested by current and future microlensing observations, such as Subaru HSC, OGLE, PRIME and Roman telescope. Therefore, we may be able to explore new physics models with strongly first-order electroweak phase transition via primordial black holes. We examine this possibility by using models with first-order electroweak phase transition in the standard model effective field theory with dimension 6 and 8 operators. We find that depending on parameters of the phase transition a sufficient number of primordial black holes can be produced to be observed by above mentioned experiments. Our results would suggest that primordial black holes can be used as a new probe of models with strongly first-order electroweak phase transition, which has complementarity with measurements of the triple Higgs boson coupling at future collider experiments and observations of gravitational waves at future space-based interferometers.

Probing first-order electroweak phase transition via primordial black holes in the effective field theory

We investigate production of primordial black holes from first-order electroweak phase transition in the framework of the nearly aligned Higgs effective field theory, in which non-decoupling quantum effects are properly described. Since the mass of such primordial black holes is evaluated to be about $10^{-5}$ of the solar mass, current and future microlensing observations such as Subaru HSC, OGLE, PRIME and Roman Space Telescope may be able to probe the electroweak phase transition. We study parameter regions where primordial black holes can be produced by the first-order electroweak phase transition, and explore their detectability at these observations. Complementarity of primordial black hole observations, gravitational wave observations and collider experiments is also discussed for testing the nature of the electroweak phase transition.

Radiative corrections to decay branching ratios of the CP-odd Higgs boson in two Higgs doublet models

We calculate radiative corrections to decay rates of CP-odd Higgs boson $A$ for various decay modes in the four types of two Higgs doublet models with the softly broken discrete $Z_{2}$ symmetry. The decay branching ratios are evaluated at the next-to-leading order for electroweak corrections and the next-to-next-to-leading order for QCD corrections. We comprehensively study the impact of the electroweak corrections on the decay rates and the branching ratios. We find that the radiative corrections can sizably modify the branching ratios, especially for the $A\to Zh$ decay mode in the nearly alignment scenario, where coupling constants of the SM-like Higgs boson $h$ are close to those in the standard model. We also show correlations between the branching ratios of $A$ and the scaling factor of the SM-like Higgs boson coupling including higher-order corrections. In addition, we show characteristic predictions on the decay pattern depending on the types of Yukawa interaction, by which we can discriminate the types of Yukawa interaction in future collider experiments.

Strongly first-order electroweak phase transition by relatively heavy additional Higgs bosons

We discuss first-order electroweak phase transition in models with extended Higgs sectors for the case with relatively heavy additional scalar bosons. We first show that, by the combination of the sphaleron decoupling condition, perturbative unitarity and vacuum stability, mass upper bounds on additional scalar bosons can be obtained at the TeV scale even at the alignment limit where the lightest Higgs boson behaves exactly like the SM Higgs boson at tree level. We then discuss phenomenological impacts of the case with the additional scalar bosons with the mass near 1 TeV. Even when they are too heavy to be directly detected at current and future experiments at hadron colliders, the large deviation in the triple Higgs boson coupling can be a signature for first-order phase transition due to quantum effects of such heavy additional Higgs bosons. On the other hand, gravitational waves from the first-order phase transition are found to be weaker in this case as compared to that with lower masses of additional scalar bosons.

Two-loop corrections to the Higgs trilinear coupling in classically scale-invariant theories

The Higgs trilinear coupling is a crucial tool to investigate the structure of the Higgs sector and the nature of the electroweak phase transition, and to search for indirect signs of New Physics. Classical scale invariance (CSI) is an attractive concept for BSM model building, explaining the apparent alignment of the Higgs sector and potentially relating to the hierarchy problem. A particularly interesting feature of CSI theories is that, at one loop, they universally predict the Higgs trilinear coupling to deviate by 67% from the SM prediction at tree level. This result is however modified at two loops, and we present here results from the first explicit computation of two-loop corrections to the Higgs trilinear coupling in classically scale-invariant BSM models. Taking as example a CSI variant of the Two-Higgs-Doublet Model, we show that the inclusion of two-loop effects allows distinguishing different scenarios with CSI, even though the requirement of correctly reproducing the mass of the Higgs boson, as well as unitarity, severely restrict the possible values of the Higgs trilinear coupling.

A new Higgs effective field theory and the new no-lose theorem

Non-decoupling effects of heavy new particles cannot be described by the standard effective field theory with finite truncation of higher dimensional operators. We propose a new effective field theory in which non-decoupling quantum effects of new physics are correctly described. We discuss vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity in our effective field theory, and we find that the scale of new physics can be estimated if we will observe the Higgs coupling deviation via non-decoupling effects in future collider experiments.

Electroweak baryogenesis in aligned two Higgs doublet models

We evaluate the baryon number abundance based on the charge transport scenario of top quarks in the CP-violating two Higgs doublet model, in which Yukawa interactions are aligned to avoid dangerous flavor changing neutral currents, and coupling constants of the lightest Higgs boson with the mass $125~\mathrm{GeV}$ coincide with those in the standard model at tree level to satisfy the current LHC data. In this model, the severe constraint from the electric dipole moment of electrons, which are normally difficult to be satisfied, can be avoided by destructive interferences between CP-violating phases in Yukawa interactions and scalar couplings in the Higgs potential. Viable benchmark scenarios are proposed under the current available data and basic theoretical bounds. We find that the observed baryon number can be reproduced in this model, where masses of additional Higgs bosons are typically $300$--$400~\mathrm{GeV}$. Furthermore, it is found that the triple Higgs boson coupling is predicted to be $35$--$55~\%$ larger than the standard model value.

Is light thermal scalar dark matter possible?

We study a light thermal scalar dark matter (DM) model with a light scalar mediator mixed with the standard model Higgs boson, including both the theoretical bounds and the current experimental constraints. The thermal scalar DM with the mass below a few GeV is usually strongly constrained by the observation of CMB and/or indirect detection experiments because the leading annihilation mode is S-wave. However, we find that two parameter regions still remain, which are the resonant annihilation region and the forbidden annihilation region. For the both cases, higher partial waves dominantly contribute to the annihilation at the freeze-out era, and the constraint from the cosmological observation is weaker. We consider typical cases of these regions quantitatively, mainly focusing on the mixing angle and the mass of the new particles. Finally, we also discuss the testability of this model at future experiments.

Probing double-aligned two Higgs doublet models at LHC

We consider two Higgs doublet models (THDMs) with both the Higgs potential and Yukawa interactions being aligned, which we call "double-aligned THDMs". In this scenario, coupling constants of the discovered Higgs boson to the Standard Model (SM) particles are identical to those of the SM Higgs boson, and flavor changing neutral currents via neutral Higgs bosons do not appear at tree level. We investigate current constraints and future prospects of the model by using measurements from flavor experiments and data of multi-lepton final states at LHC. Especially, we focus on the electroweak pair production of the additional Higgs bosons with their masses below $2m_t$. We find that the most of the parameter space are already excluded by the current LHC data when the leptonic decays of the additional Higgs bosons are dominant, which can be interpreted to the scenario in the Type-X THDM as a special case. We also clarify the parameter region where the high-luminosity LHC can explore, and demonstrate the reconstruction of the masses of additional Higgs bosons from the $b\bar{b}τ^+τ^-$ final states in a few benchmark points.

Aligned CP-violating Higgs sector canceling the electric dipole moment

We discuss the effect of CP violation in the aligned scenario of the general two-Higgs-doublet model, in which the Higgs potential and the Yukawa interaction provide additional CP-violating phases. An alignment is imposed to the Yukawa interaction in order to avoid dangerous flavor changing neutral currents. The Higgs potential is also aligned such that the coupling constants of the lightest Higgs boson, which is identified as the discovered Higgs boson with the mass of 125 GeV, are the same as those of the standard model. In general, CP-violating phases originated by the Yukawa interaction and the Higgs potential are strongly constrained by the current data for the electric dipole moment (EDM). It is found that in our scenario contributions from the two sources of CP violation can be destructive and consequently their total contribution can satisfy the EDM results, even when each CP-violating phase is large. Such a large CP-violating phase can be tested at collider experiments by looking at the angular distributions of particles generated by the decays of the additional Higgs bosons.

Current status of space gravitational wave antenna DECIGO and B-DECIGO

Deci-hertz Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (DECIGO) is the future Japanese space mission with a frequency band of 0.1 Hz to 10 Hz. DECIGO aims at the detection of primordial gravitational waves, which could be produced during the inflationary period right after the birth of the universe. There are many other scientific objectives of DECIGO, including the direct measurement of the acceleration of the expansion of the universe, and reliable and accurate predictions of the timing and locations of neutron star/black hole binary coalescences. DECIGO consists of four clusters of observatories placed in the heliocentric orbit. Each cluster consists of three spacecraft, which form three Fabry-Perot Michelson interferometers with an arm length of 1,000 km. Three clusters of DECIGO will be placed far from each other, and the fourth cluster will be placed in the same position as one of the three clusters to obtain the correlation signals for the detection of the primordial gravitational waves. We plan to launch B-DECIGO, which is a scientific pathfinder of DECIGO, before DECIGO in the 2030s to demonstrate the technologies required for DECIGO, as well as to obtain fruitful scientific results to further expand the multi-messenger astronomy.

H-COUP Version 2: a program for one-loop corrected Higgs boson decays in non-minimal Higgs sectors

We present the concept of H-COUP_ver 2, which evaluates the decay rates (including higher order corrections) for the Higgs boson with a mass of 125 GeV in various extended Higgs models. In the previous version (H-COUP_1.0), only a full set of the Higgs boson vertices are evaluated at one-loop level in a gauge invariant manner in these models. H-COUP_ver 2 contains all the functions of H-COUP_1.0. After shortly introducing these extended Higgs models and discussing their theoretical and experimental constraints, we summarize formulae for the renormalized vertices and the decay rates. We then explain how to install and run H-COUP_ver 2 with some numerical examples.

Leading two-loop corrections to the Higgs boson self-couplings in models with extended scalar sectors

We compute the dominant two-loop corrections to the Higgs trilinear coupling $λ_{hhh}$ and to the Higgs quartic coupling $λ_{hhhh}$ in models with extended Higgs sectors, using the effective-potential approximation. We provide in this paper all necessary details about our calculations, and present general $\overline{\text{MS}}$ expressions for derivatives of the integrals appearing in the effective potential at two loops. We also consider three particular Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) scenarios -- namely a typical scenario of an Inert Doublet Model (IDM), and scenarios of a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) and of a Higgs Singlet Model (HSM) without scalar mixing -- and we include all the necessary finite counterterms to obtain (in addition to $\overline{\text{MS}}$ results) on-shell scheme expressions for the corrections to the Higgs self-couplings. With these analytic results, we investigate the possible magnitude of two-loop BSM contributions to the Higgs self-couplings and the fate of the non-decoupling effects that are known to appear at one loop. We find that, at least as long as pertubative unitarity conditions are fulfilled, the size of two-loop corrections remains well below that of one-loop corrections. Typically, two-loop contributions to $λ_{hhh}$ amount to approximately 20% of those at one loop, implying that the non-decoupling effects observed at one loop are not significantly modified, but also meaning that higher-order corrections need to be taken into account for the future perspective of precise measurements of the Higgs trilinear coupling.

New scenario for aligned Higgs couplings originated from the twisted custodial symmetry at high energies

We investigate a new scenario of the two Higgs doublet model, where the current experimental data for the electroweak rho parameter and those for the Higgs boson couplings can be simultaneously explained. In this scenario, the two Higgs doublet model is supposed to be a low energy effective theory up to a high energy scale $Λ$, above which a fundamental theory should appear. It is assumed that the Higgs potential respects a global symmetry at $Λ$ (the twisted custodial symmetry), which is to be given as a consequence of the global symmetry structure of the fundamental theory above $Λ$. By the analysis using one-loop renormalization group equations, the above experimental data can be explained in a natural way even when the masses of the extra Higgs bosons are near the electroweak scale. We also discuss the predictions on the mass spectrum of the additional Higgs bosons and also those on coupling constants of the standard-model-like Higgs boson, which make it possible to test this scenario at current and future collider experiments.

Probing charged lepton number violation via $\ell^\pm \ell^{\prime \pm} W^\mp W^\mp$

We study impacts of dimension-five lepton-number violating operators associated with two same-sign weak bosons, $\ell^\pm \ell^{\prime \pm} W^\mp W^\mp$, on current and future experiments for neutrino oscillation, lepton-number violating rare processes and high-energy collider experiments. These operators can contain important information on the origin of tiny neutrino masses, which is independent of that from the so-called Weinberg operator. We examine constraints on the coefficients of the operators by the neutrino oscillation data. Upper bounds on the coefficients are also investigated by using the data for processes of lepton number violation such as neutrinoless double beta decays and $μ^-$-$e^+$ conversion. These operators can also be directly tested by searching for lepton-number violating dilepton production via the same-sign W boson fusion process at high-energy hadron colliders like the Large Hadron Collider. We find that these operators can be considerably probed by these current and future experiments.

Radiative generation of neutrino masses in a 3-3-1 type model

A new model for tiny neutrino masses is proposed in the gauge theory of $SU(3)_C \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X$, where neutrino masses are generated via the quantum effect of new particles. In this model, the fermion content is taken to be minimal to realize the gauge anomaly cancellation, while the scalar sector is extended from the minimal 3-3-1 model to have an additional $SU(3)_L$ triplet field. After $SU(3)_L\otimes U(1)_X$ is broken into $SU(2)_L\otimes U(1)_Y$, the "Zee model" like diagrams are naturally induced, which contain sufficient lepton flavor violating interactions to reproduce current neutrino oscillation data. Furthermore, the remnant $Z_2$ symmetry appears after the electroweak symmetry breaking, which guarantees the stability of dark matter. It is confirmed that this model can satisfy current dark matter data. As an important prediction to test this model, productions and decays of doubly-charged scalar bosons at collider experiments are discussed in successful benchmark scenarios.

Two-loop corrections to the Higgs trilinear coupling in models with extended scalar sectors

The Higgs trilinear coupling $λ_{hhh}$ is of great importance to understand the structure of the Higgs sector and allows searching for indirect signs of Beyond-the-Standard-Model (BSM) physics, even if new states are somehow hidden. In particular, in models with extended Higgs sectors, it is known that non-decouplings effects in BSM-scalar contributions at one loop can cause $λ_{hhh}$ to deviate significantly from its SM prediction, raising the question of what happens at two loops. We review here our calculation of the leading two-loop corrections to $λ_{hhh}$ in an aligned scenario of a Two-Higgs-Doublet Model. We find their typical size to be 10-20% of the one-loop corrections, meaning that they do not modify significantly the one-loop non-decoupling effects, but are not entirely negligible either.

Full next-to-leading-order calculations of Higgs boson decay rates in models with non-minimal scalar sectors

We present a complete set of decay rates of the Higgs boson with the mass of 125 GeV at the full next-to-leading order in a variety of extended Higgs models; i.e., a model with an additional real singlet scalar field, four types of two Higgs doublet models and the inert doublet model. All the one-loop contributions due to QCD and electroweak interactions as well as scalar interactions are taken into account, and the calculations are systematically performed. Branching ratios for all the decay modes are evaluated in these models, and patterns of deviations in each decay mode from the standard model predictions are comprehensively analyzed. We show how these models with extended Higgs sectors can be distinguished by using our calculation of the branching ratios and future precision measurements of the Higgs boson decays.

Diphoton excess at 750 GeV in an extended scalar sector

We discuss an extended scalar model which explains the recent results of diphoton excess at 750 GeV at LHC Run II experiments. An additional singlet scalar boson with the mass of 750 GeV, which couples to top quarks via a dimension five operator, is produced via gluon fusion and decays into two photons via loop contributions of a number of (multiply) charged scalar bosons. Origin of such a dimension five operator would be, for example, in the context of composite Higgs models. The excess can be explained without contradicting the data from LHC Run I and also theoretical consistencies such as perturbative unitarity and charge non-breaking.

Gravitational waves and Higgs boson couplings for exploring first order phase transition in the model with a singlet scalar field

We calculate the spectrum of gravitational waves originated from strongly first order electroweak phase transition in the extended Higgs model with a real singlet field. In order to calculate the bubble nucleation rate, we perform a two-field analysis to evaluate bounce solutions connecting the true and the false vacua using the one-loop effective potential at finite temperatures. Imposing the Sakharov condition of the departure from thermal equilibrium for baryogenesis, we survey allowed regions of parameters of the model. We then investigate the gravitational waves produced at electroweak bubble collisions in the early Universe, such as the sound wave, the bubble wall collision and the plasma turbulence. We find that the strength at the peak frequency can be large enough to be detected at future space-based gravitational interferometers such as eLISA, DECIGO and BBO. Predicted deviations in the various Higgs boson couplings are also evaluated at the zero temperature, and are shown to be large enough too. Therefore, in this model strongly first order electroweak phase transition can be tested by the combination of the precision study of various Higgs boson couplings at LHC, the measurement of the triple Higgs boson coupling at future lepton colliders and the shape of the spectrum of gravitational wave detectable at future gravitational interferometers.

Implications of the 750 GeV gamma-gamma Resonance as a Case Study for the International Linear Collider

If the gamma-gamma resonance at 750 GeV suggested by 2015 LHC data turns out to be a real effect, what are the implications for the physics case and upgrade path of the International Linear Collider? Whether or not the resonance is confirmed, this question provides an interesting case study testing the robustness of the ILC physics case. In this note, we address this question with two points: (1) Almost all models proposed for the new 750 GeV particle require additional new particles with electroweak couplings. The key elements of the 500 GeV ILC physics program---precision measurements of the Higgs boson, the top quark, and 4-fermion interactions---will powerfully discriminate among these models. This information will be important in conjunction with new LHC data, or alone, if the new particles accompanying the 750 GeV resonance are beyond the mass reach of the LHC. (2) Over a longer term, the energy upgrade of the ILC to 1 TeV already discussed in the ILC TDR will enable experiments in gamma-gamma and e+e- collisions to directly produce and study the 750 GeV particle from these unique initial states.

LHC 750 GeV Diphoton excess in a radiative seesaw model

We investigate a possibility for explaining the recently announced 750\,GeV diphoton excess by the ATLAS and the CMS experiments at the CERN LHC in a model with multiple doubly charged particles, which was originally suggested for explaining tiny neutrino masses through a three-loop effect in a natural way. The enhanced radiatively generated effective coupling of a new singlet scalar $S$ with diphoton with multiple charged particles in the loop enlarges the production rate of $S$ in $pp\to S+X$ via photon fusion process and also the decay width $Γ(S\to γγ)$ even without assuming a tree level production mechanism. We provide detailed analysis on the cases with or without allowing the mixing between $S$ and the standard model Higgs doublet.

Phenomenology of the Georgi-Machacek model at future electron-positron colliders

We study the phenomenology of the exotic Higgs bosons in the Georgi-Machacek model at future electron-positron colliders such as the International Linear Collider (ILC), assuming the collision energies of 500 GeV and 1 TeV. We show that the existence of the neutral and singly-charged Higgs bosons in the 5-plet representation under the custodial $SU(2)_V$ symmetry can be readily identified by studying various energy and invariant mass distributions of the $W^+W^-Z$ final state. Moreover, their masses can be determined with sufficiently high precision to test the mass degeneracy, a feature due to the custodial symmetry of the model. A synergy between such searches at the ILC and the doubly-charged Higgs search at the LHC will make the 5-plet Higgs boson study more comprehensive.

Probing Models of Dirac Neutrino Masses via the Flavor Structure of the Mass Matrix

We classify models of the Dirac neutrino mass by concentrating on flavor structures of the mass matrix. The advantage of our classification is that we do not need to specify detail of models except for Yukawa interactions because flavor structures can be given only by products of Yukawa matrices. All possible Yukawa interactions between leptons (including the right-handed neutrino) are taken into account by introducing appropriate scalar fields. We also take into account the case with Yukawa interactions of leptons with the dark matter candidate. Then, we see that flavor structures can be classified into seven groups. The result is useful for the efficient test of models of the neutrino mass. One of seven groups can be tested by measuring the absolute neutrino mass. Other two can be tested by probing the violation of the lepton universality in $\ell \to \ell^\prime ν\overlineν$. In order to test the other four groups, we can rely on searches for new scalar particles at collider experiments.

Single and double production of the Higgs boson at hadron and lepton colliders in minimal composite Higgs models

In the composite Higgs models, originally proposed by Georgi and Kaplan, the Higgs boson is a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson (pNGB) of spontaneous breaking of a global symmetry. In the minimal version of such models, global SO(5) symmetry is spontaneously broken to SO(4), and the pNGBs form an isospin doublet field, which corresponds to the Higgs doublet in the Standard Model (SM). Predicted coupling constants of the Higgs boson can in general deviate from the SM predictions, depending on the compositeness parameter. The deviation pattern is determined also by the detail of the matter sector. We comprehensively study how the model can be tested via measuring single and double production processes of the Higgs boson at LHC and future electron-positron colliders. The possibility to distinguish the matter sector among the minimal composite Higgs models is also discussed. In addition, we point out differences in the cross section of double Higgs boson production from the prediction in other new physics models.

Synergy between measurements of the gravitational wave and the triple Higgs coupling in probing first order phase transition

Probing the Higgs potential and new physics behind the electroweak symmetry breaking is one of the most important issues of particle physics. In particular, nature of electroweak phase transition is essential for understanding physics at the early Universe, such that the strongly first order phase transition is required for a successful scenario of electroweak baryogenesis. The strongly first order phase transition is expected to be tested by precisely measuring the triple Higgs boson coupling at future colliders like the International Linear Collider. It can also be explored via the spectrum of stochastic gravitational waves to be measured at future space-based interferometers such as eLISA and DECIGO. We discuss complementarity of both the methods in testing the strongly first order phase transition of the electroweak symmetry in models with additional isospin singlet scalar fields with and without classical scale invariance. We find that they are synergetic in identifying specific models of electroweak symmetry breaking in more details.

Testing neutrino mass generation mechanisms from the lepton flavor violating decay of the Higgs boson

We investigate how observations of the lepton flavor violating decay of the Higgs boson ($h \to \ell\ell^\prime$) can narrow down models of neutrino mass generation mechanisms, which were systematically studied in Refs. [1,2] by focusing on the combination of new Yukawa coupling matrices with leptons. We find that a wide class of models for neutrino masses can be excluded if evidence for $h \to \ell\ell^\prime$ is really obtained in the current or future collider experiments. In particular, simple models of Majorana neutrino masses cannot be compatible with the observation of $h \to \ell\ell^\prime$. It is also found that some of the simple models to generate masses of Dirac neutrinos radiatively can be compatible with a significant rate of the $h \to \ell\ell^\prime$ process.

Testing the dark matter scenario in the inert doublet model by future precision measurements of the Higgs boson couplings

We evaluate radiative corrections to the Higgs boson couplings in the inert doublet model, in which the lightest component of the $Z_2^{}$ odd scalar doublet field can be a dark matter candidate. The one-loop contributions to the $hVV$, $hff$ and $hhh$ couplings are calculated in the on-shell scheme, where $h$ is the Higgs boson with the mass 125 GeV, $V$ represents a weak gauge boson and $f$ is a fermion. We investigate how the one-loop corrected Higgs boson couplings can be deviated from the predictions in the standard model under the constraints from perturbative unitarity and vacuum stability in the scenario where the model can explain current dark matter data. When the mass of the dark matter is slightly above a half of the Higgs boson mass, it would be difficult to test the model by the direct search experiments for dark matter. We find that in such a case the model can be tested at future collider experiments by either the direct search of heavier inert particles or precision measurements of the Higgs boson couplings.

We propose a new beam dump experiment at future colliders with electron ($e^-$) and positron ($e^+$) beams, BDee, which will provide a new possibility to search for hidden particles, like hidden photon. If a particle detector is installed behind the beam dump, it can detect the signal of in-flight decay of the hidden particles produced by the scatterings of $e^\pm$ beams off materials for dumping. We show that, compared to past experiments, BDee (in particular BDee at $e^+e^-$ linear collider) significantly enlarges the parameter region where the signal of the hidden particle can be discovered.

Discriminative phenomenological features of scale invariant models for electroweak symmetry breaking

Classical scale invariance (CSI) may be one of the solutions for the hierarchy problem. Realistic models for electroweak symmetry breaking based on CSI require extended scalar sectors without mass terms, and the electroweak symmetry is broken dynamically at the quantum level by the Coleman-Weinberg mechanism. We discuss discriminative features of these models. First, using the experimental value of the mass of the discovered Higgs boson $h(125)$, we obtain an upper bound on the mass of the lightest additional scalar boson (~543 GeV), which does not depend on its isospin and hypercharge. Second, a discriminative prediction on the Higgs-photon-photon coupling is given as a function of the number of charged scalar bosons, by which we can narrow down possible models using current and future data for the di-photon decay of $h(125)$. Finally, for the triple Higgs boson coupling a large deviation (~ +70 %) from the SM prediction is universally predicted, which is independent of masses, quantum numbers and even the number of additional scalars. These models based on CSI can be well tested at LHC Run II and at future lepton colliders.

We calculate radiative corrections to a full set of coupling constants for the 125 GeV Higgs boson at the one-loop level in two Higgs doublet models with four types of Yukawa interaction under the softly-broken discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. The renormalization calculations are performed in the on-shell scheme, in which the gauge dependence in the mixing parameter which appears in the previous calculation is consistently avoided. We first show the details of our renormalizaton scheme, and present the complete set of the analytic formulae of the renormalized couplings. We then numerically demonstrate how the inner parameters of the model can be extracted by the future precision measurements of these couplings at the high luminosity LHC and the International Linear Collider.

Gravitational waves as a probe of extended scalar sectors with the first order electroweak phase transition

We discuss spectra of gravitational waves which are originated by the strongly first order phase transition at the electroweak symmetry breaking, which is required for a successful scenario of electroweak baryogenesis. Such spectra are numerically evaluated without high temperature expansion in a set of extended scalar sectors with additional N isospin-singlet fields as a concrete example of renormalizable theories. We find that the produced gravitational waves can be significant, so that they are detectable at future gravitational wave interferometers such as DECIGO and BBO. Furthermore, since the spectra strongly depend on N and the mass of the singlet fields, our results indicate that future detailed observation of gravitational waves can be in general a useful probe of extended scalar sectors with the first order phase transition.

Indirect reach of heavy MSSM Higgs bosons by precision measurements at future lepton colliders

In the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), the bottom Yukawa coupling of the Higgs boson can considerably deviate from its Standard Model prediction due to non-decoupling effects. We point out that the ratio of the Higgs boson decay branching fraction to a bottom quark pair and that to a $W$-boson pair from the same production channel is particularly sensitive to large additional MSSM Higgs boson mass regions at future electron-positron colliders. Based on this precision measurement, we explicitly show the indirect discovery reach of the additional Higgs bosons according to planned programs of the International Linear Collider.

LHC Run-I constraint on the mass of doubly charged Higgs bosons in the same-sign diboson decay scenario

In this Letter, we study the latest bound on the mass of doubly charged Higgs bosons, $H^{\pm\pm}$, assuming that they dominantly decay into a diboson. The new bound is obtained by comparing the inclusive searches for events with a same-sign dilepton by the ATLAS Collaboration using the latest 20.3 fb$^{-1}$ data at the LHC 8 TeV run with theoretical prediction based on the Higgs triplet model with next-to-leading order QCD corrections. We find that the lower mass bound on $H^{\pm\pm}$ is about 84 GeV.

New resonance scale and fingerprint identification in minimal composite Higgs models

Composite Higgs models are an intriguing scenario in which the Higgs particle is identified as a pseudo Nambu-Goldstone boson associated with spontaneous breaking of some global symmetry above the electroweak scale. They would predict new resonances at high energy scales, some of which can appear at multi-TeV scales. In such a case, analogies with pion physics in QCD that a sizable phase shift is predicted in pion-pion scattering processes might help us to evaluate scales of the resonances. In this paper, we discuss two complementary approaches to investigate the compositeness scale in minimal composite Higgs models. First, we discuss the bound on vector boson scattering from perturbative unitarity, and we evaluate the phase shift of the scattering amplitude, assuming that the same fitting function can be applied as the case in the pion physics. We then obtain the relation between possible phase shifts and promising new resonance scales. We also investigate the possibility to measure the phase shift at LHC and the future hadron colliders. Second, we classify deviations in Higgs coupling constants from the standard model predictions in various kinds of the minimal composite Higgs models. We then discuss a possibility to discriminate a specific minimal composite Higgs model from the other models with extended Higgs sectors by utilizing deviation patterns in the Higgs boson couplings by future precision measurements.

Probing Models of Neutrino Masses via the Flavor Structure of the Mass Matrix

We discuss what kinds of combinations of Yukawa interactions can generate the Majorana neutrino mass matrix. We concentrate on the flavor structure of the neutrino mass matrix because it does not depend on details of the models except for Yukawa interactions while determination of the overall scale of the mass matrix requires to specify also the scalar potential and masses of new particles. Thus, models to generate Majorana neutrino mass matrix can be efficiently classified according to the combination of Yukawa interactions. We first investigate the case where Yukawa interactions with only leptons are utilized. Next, we consider the case with Yukawa interactions between leptons and gauge singlet fermions, which have the odd parity under the unbroken Z_2 symmetry. We show that combinations of Yukawa interactions for these cases can be classified into only three groups. Our classification would be useful for the efficient discrimination of models via experimental tests for not each model but just three groups of models.

R-Parity Conserving Supersymmetric Extension of the Zee Model

We extend the Zee model, where tiny neutrino masses are generated at the one loop level, to a supersymmetric model with R-parity conservation. It is found that the neutrino mass matrix can be consistent with the neutrino oscillation data thanks to the nonholomorphic Yukawa interaction generated via one-loop diagrams of sleptons. We find a parameter set of the model, where in addition to the neutrino oscillation data, experimental constraints from the lepton flavor violating decays of charged leptons and current LHC data are also satisfied. In the parameter set, an additional CP-even neutral Higgs boson other than the standard-model-like one, a CP-odd neutral Higgs boson, and two charged scalar bosons are light enough to be produced at the LHC and future lepton colliders. If the lightest charged scalar bosons are mainly composed of the SU(2)_L-singlet scalar boson in the model, they would decay into e nu and mu nu with 50% of a branching ratio for each. In such a case, the relation among the masses of the charged scalar bosons and the CP-odd Higgs in the minimal supersymmetric standard model approximately holds with a radiative correction. Our model can be tested by measuring the specific decay patterns of charged scalar bosons and the discriminative mass spectrum of additional scalar bosons.

Radiative corrections to the Higgs boson couplings in the model with an additional real singlet scalar field

We calculate renormalized Higgs boson couplings with gauge bosons and fermions at the one-loop level in the model with an additional isospin singlet real scalar field. These coupling constants can deviate from the predictions in the standard model due to tree-level mixing effects and one-loop contributions of the extra neutral scalar boson. We investigate how they can be significant under the theoretical constraints from perturbative unitarity and vacuum stability and also the condition of avoiding the wrong vacuum. Furthermore, comparing with the predictions in the Type I two Higgs doublet model, we numerically demonstrate how the singlet extension model can be distinguished and identified by using precision measurements of the Higgs boson couplings at future collider experiments.

Searches for additional Higgs bosons in multi-top-quarks events at the LHC and the International Linear Collider

We study direct searches of additional Higgs bosons in multi-top-quarks events at the LHC Run-II, its luminosity upgraded version with 3000 fb$^{-1}$, and the International Linear Collider (ILC) with the collision energy of 1 TeV. Additional Higgs bosons are predicted in all kinds of extended Higgs sectors, and their detection at collider experiments is a clear signature of the physics beyond the standard model. We consider two Higgs doublet models with the discrete symmetry as benchmark models. If these additional Higgs bosons are heavy enough, the decay modes including top quarks can be dominant, and the searches in multi-top-quarks events become an important probe of the Higgs sector. We evaluate the discovery reach in the parameter space of the model, and find that there are parameter regions where the searches at the LHC with 3000 fb$^{-1}$ cannot survey, but the searches at the ILC 1 TeV run can. The combination of direct searches at the LHC and the ILC is useful to explore extended Higgs sectors.

Unitarity bound in the most general two Higgs doublet model

We investigate unitarity bounds in the most general two Higgs doublet model without a discrete $Z_2$ symmetry nor CP conservation. S-wave amplitudes for two-body elastic scatterings of Nambu-Goldstone bosons and physical Higgs bosons are calculated at high energies for all possible initial and final states (14 neutral, 8 singly-charged and 3 doubly-charged states). We obtain analytic formulae for the block-diagonalized scattering matrix by the classification of the two body scattering states using the conserved quantum numbers at high energies. Imposing the condition of perturbative unitarity to the eigenvalues of the scattering matrix, constraints on the model parameters can be obtained. We apply our results to constrain the mass range of the next--to--lightest Higgs state in the model.

Bounds on the mass of doubly-charged Higgs bosons in the same-sign diboson decay scenario

A direct search for doubly-charged Higgs bosons $H^{\pm\pm}$ is one of the most important probe in the Higgs Triplet Model, which is motivated by generation mechanisms of tiny neutrino masses. There are two major decay modes of $H^{\pm\pm}$; i.e., the same-sign dilepton decay $H^{\pm\pm}\to\ell^\pm\ell^\pm$ and the same-sign diboson decay $H^{\pm\pm}\to W^{\pm(*)}W^{\pm(*)}$. For the case where the former decay mode is dominant, the lower limit on the mass of $H^{\pm\pm}$ has been set at about 400 GeV by ATLAS and CMS Collaborations. On the other hand, for the case where the latter decay mode is dominant, no dedicated search has been performed in the past. By taking into account characteristic signals of $H^{\pm\pm}$ in the diboson decay scenario at LEP and the LHC experiments, we find that the lower mass bound of 60-68 GeV can be obtained using the same-sign dilepton search performed by ATLAS Collaboration with 4.7 fb$^{-1}$ data at the collision energy of 7 TeV. We also show that the limit can be extended up to about 85-90 GeV, assuming the integrated luminosity of 20 fb$^{-1}$ and 7 TeV for the collision energy. We give detailed explanations on the decay properties of $H^{\pm\pm}$ for relatively small mass cases and also on production cross sections of $H^{\pm\pm}$ at the next-to-leading order of QCD at the LHC.

Complementarity in direct searches for additional Higgs bosons at the LHC and the International Linear Collider

We discuss complementarity of discovery reaches of heavier neutral Higgs bosons and charged Higgs bosons at the LHC and the International Linear Collider (ILC) in two Higgs doublet models (2HDMs). We perform a comprehensive analysis on their production and decay processes for all types of Yukawa interaction under the softly-broken discrete symmetry which is introduced to avoid flavour changing neutral currents, and we investigate parameter spaces of discovering additional Higgs bosons at the ILC beyond the LHC reach. We find that the 500 GeV run of the ILC with the integrated luminosity of 500 fb^{-1} shows an advantage for discovering the additional Higgs bosons in the region where the LHC cannot discover them with the integrated luminosity of 300 fb^{-1}. For the 1 TeV run of the ILC with the integrated luminosity of 1 ab^{-1}, production processes of an additional Higgs boson associated with the top quark can be useful as discovery channels in some parameter spaces where the LHC with the integrated luminosity of 3000 fb^{-1} cannot reach. It is emphasized that the complementary study at the LHC and the ILC is useful not only to survey additional Higgs bosons at the TeV scale, but also to discriminate types of Yukawa interaction in the 2HDM.

Fingerprinting non-minimal Higgs sectors

After the discovery of the standard-model-like Higgs boson at the LHC, the structure of the Higgs sector remains unknown. We discuss how it can be determined by the combination of direct and indirect searches for additional Higgs bosons at future collider experiments. First of all, we evaluate expected excluded regions for the mass of additional neutral Higgs bosons from direct searches at the LHC with the 14 TeV collision energy in the two Higgs doublet models with a softly-broken $Z_2$ symmetry. Second, precision measurements of the Higgs boson couplings at future experiments can be used for the indirect search of extended Higgs sectors if measured coupling constant with the gauge boson slightly deviates from the standard model value. In particular, in the two Higgs doublet model with the softly-broken discrete symmetry, there are four types of Yukawa interactions, so that they can be discriminated by measuring the pattern of deviations in Yukawa coupling constants. Furthermore, we can fingerprint various extended Higgs sectors with future precision data by detecting the pattern of deviations in the coupling constants of the standard-model-like Higgs boson. We demonstrate how the pattern of deviations can be different among various Higgs sectors which predict the electroweak rho parameter to be unity; such as models with additional an isospin singlet, a doublet, triplets or a septet. We conclude that as long as the gauge coupling constant of the Higgs boson slightly differs from the standard model prediction but is enough to be detected at the LHC and its high-luminosity run or at the International Linear Collider, we can identify the non-minimal Higgs sector even without direct discovery of additional Higgs bosons at the LHC.

Higgs as a Probe of Supersymmetric Grand Unification with the Hosotani Mechanism

The supersymmetric grand unified theory where the SU(5) gauge symmetry is broken by the Hosotani mechanism predicts the existence of adjoint chiral superfields whose masses are at the supersymmetry breaking scale. The Higgs sector is extended with the SU(2)_L triplet with hypercharge zero and neutral singlet chiral multiplets from that in the minimal supersymmetric standard model. Since the triplet and singlet chiral multiplets originate from a higher-dimensional vector multiplet, this model is highly predictive. Properties of the particles in the Higgs sector are characteristic and can be different from those in the Standard Model and other models. We evaluate deviations in coupling constants of the standard model-like Higgs boson and the mass spectrum of the additional Higgs bosons. We find that our model is discriminative from the others by precision measurements of these coupling constants and masses of the additional Higgs bosons. This model can be a good example of grand unification that is testable at future collider experiments such as the luminosity up-graded Large Hadron Collider and future electron-positron colliders.

Higgs Physics as a Proble of New Physics

The discovery of the Higgs boson at the LHC has opened the door to clarify the mechanism of electroweak symmetry breaking and the origin of masses of particles. The Higgs sector in the SM is the simplest but has no theoretical principle, so that there is a possibility of non-minimal Higgs sectors. While the standard model is not contradict with the current data at the LHC within the error, most of extended Higgs sectors can also reproduce the data. An extended Higgs sector often appears in a new physics model beyond the standard model, so that we can determine new physics from the Higgs sector. In this talk, we discuss various aspects of extended Higgs sectors, in particular its phenomenological properties and testability at future experiments at the International Linear Collider.

Neutrino Mass and Dark Matter from Gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ Breaking

We propose a new model where the Dirac mass term for neutrinos, the Majorana mass term for right-handed neutrinos, and the other new fermion masses arise via the spontaneous breakdown of the $U(1)_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry. The anomaly-free condition gives four sets of assignment of the B-L charge to new particles, and three of these sets have an associated global $U(1)_{DM}$ symmetry which stabilizes dark matter candidates. The dark matter candidates contribute to generating the Dirac mass term for neutrinos at the one-loop level. Consequently, tiny neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level via a Type-I-Seesaw-like mechanism. We show that this model can satisfy current bounds from neutrino oscillation data, the lepton flavor violation, the relic abundance of the dark matter, and the direct search for the dark matter. This model would be tested at future collider experiments and dark matter experiments.

Novel Constraint on Parameter Space of the Georgi-Machacek Model by Current LHC Data

The same-sign diboson process $pp\to W^\pm W^\pm jj$ has been measured at the LHC using leptonic decay channels of the $W$ bosons, with production cross sections of two fiducial regions reported to be consistent with the standard model expectations within 1 sigma. These results constrain new physics models with a modified $W^+W^+W^-W^-$ vertex. We consider in particular the Georgi-Machacek model in which the quartic $W$ boson vertex is effectively modified due to mediations of new Higgs bosons in the model. The relevant gauge-gauge-scalar couplings are all proportional to the vacuum expectation value of the isospin triplets, which can be of $\mathcal{O}(10)$ GeV because of custodial vacuum alignment. Using the current 8-TeV data at the LHC, we exclude parameter space on the plane of the triplet vacuum expectation value and the new Higgs boson mass. The expected discovery reach at the 14-TeV LHC is also studied.

Radiative corrections to the Yukawa coupling constants in two Higgs doublet models

We calculate one-loop corrected Yukawa coupling constants $hf\bar{f}$ for the standard model like Higgs boson $h$ in two Higgs doublet models. We focus on the models with the softly-broken $Z_2$ symmetry, which is imposed to avoid the flavor changing neutral current. Under the $Z_2$ symmetry, there are four types of Yukawa interactions. We find that one-loop contributions from extra Higgs bosons modify the $hf\bar{f}$ couplings to be maximally about $5\%$ under the constraint from perturbative unitarity and vacuum stability. Our results show that the pattern of tree-level deviations by the mixing effect in each type of Yukawa couplings from the SM predictions does not change even including radiative corrections. Moreover, when the gauge couplings $hVV$ ($V=W,Z$) are found to be slightly (with a percent level) differ from the SM predictions, the $hf\bar{f}$ couplings also deviate but more largely. Therefore, in such a case, not only can we determine the type of Yukawa couplings but also we can obtain information on the extra Higgs bosons by comparing the predictions with precisely measured $hf\bar{f}$ and $hVV$ couplings at future electron-positron colliders.

Radiative neutrino mass, dark matter and electroweak baryogenesis from the supersymmetric gauge theory with confinement

We propose a simple model to explain neutrino mass, dark matter and baryogenesis based on the extended Higgs sector which appears in the low-energy effective theory of a supersymmetric gauge theory with confinement. We here consider the SU(2)$_H$ gauge symmetry with three flavours of fundamental representations which are charged under the standard SU(3)$_C\times$ SU(2)$_L\times$U(1)$_Y$ symmetry and a new discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. We also introduce $Z_2$-odd right-handed neutrino superfields in addition to the standard model matter superfields. The low-energy effective theory below the confinement scale contains the Higgs sector with fifteen composite superfields, some of which are $Z_2$-odd. When the confinement scale is of the order of ten TeV, electroweak phase transition can be sufficiently of first order, which is required for successful electroweak baryogenesis. The lightest $Z_2$-odd particle can be a new candidate for dark matter, in addition to the lightest $R$-parity odd particle. Neutrino masses and mixings can be explained by the quantum effects of $Z_2$-odd fields via the one-loop and three-loop diagrams. We find a benchmark scenario of the model, where all the constraints from the current neutrino, dark matter, lepton flavour violation and LHC data are satisfied. Predictions of the model are shortly discussed.

A UV complete model for radiative seesaw and electroweak baryogenesis based on the SUSY gauge theory

In a class of supersymmetric gauge theories with asymptotic freedom, the low energy effective theory below the confinement scale is described by the composite superfields of the fundamental representation fields. Based on the supersymmetric gauge theory with N_c=2 and N_f=3 with an additional unbroken Z_2 symmetry, we propose a new model where neutrino masses, dark matter, and baryon asymmetry of the Universe can be simultaneously explained by physics below the confinement scale. This is an example for the ultraviolet complete supersymmetric extension of so-called radiative seesaw scenarios with first-order phase transition required for successful electroweak baryogenesis. We show that there are benchmark points where all the neutrino data, the lepton flavor violation data, and the LHC data are satisfied. We also briefly discuss Higgs phenomenology in this model.

Determination of tan(beta) from the Higgs boson decay at linear colliders

In the two Higgs doublet model, $\tanβ$ is an important parameter, which is defined as the ratio of the vacuum expectation values of the doublets. We study how accurately $\tanβ$ can be determined at linear colliders via the precision measurement of the decay branching fraction of the standard model (SM) like Higgs boson. Since the effective coupling constants of the Higgs boson with the weak gauge bosons are expected to be measured accurately, the branching ratios can be precisely determined. Consequently, $\tanβ$ can be determined with a certain amount of accuracy. Comparing the method to those using direct production of the additional Higgs bosons, we find that, depending on the type of Yukawa interactions, the precision measurement of the decay of the SM-like Higgs boson can be the best way to determine $\tanβ$, when the deviations in the coupling constants with the gauge boson from the SM prediction are observed at linear colliders.

Electroweak phase transition and Higgs boson couplings in the model based on supersymmetric strong dynamics

We discuss a strongly-coupled extended Higgs sector with the 126 GeV Higgs boson, which is a low-energy effective theory of the supersymmetric SU(2)$_H$ gauge thoery that causes confinement. In this effective theory, we study the parameter region where electroweak phase transition is of strongly first order, as required for successful electroweak baryogenesis. In such a parameter region, the model has a Landau pole at the order of 10 TeV, which corresponds to the confinement scale of the SU(2)$_H$ gauge theory. We find that the large coupling constant which blows up at the Landau pole results in large non-decoupling loop effects on low-energy observables, such as the Higgs-photon-photon vertex and the triple Higgs boson vertex. As phenomenological consequences of electroweak baryogenesis in our model, the Higgs-to-diphoton branching ratio is about 20% smaller while the triple Higgs boson coupling is more than about 20% larger than the standard model predictions. Such deviations may be detectable in future collider experiments.

First constraint on the mass of doubly-charged Higgs bosons in the same-sign diboson decay scenario at the LHC

When the doubly-charged Higgs bosons $H^{\pm\pm}$ mainly decay into the same-sign dilepton, a lower bound on the mass is around 400 GeV by the current LHC data. On the other hand, no such bound has been reported by using the data at LEP and at the LHC for the case where the same-sign diboson decay $H^{\pm\pm}\to W^{\pm(*)} W^{\pm(*)}$ is dominant. We study limits on the mass for such a case by using the current experimental data. From the precise measurement of the total width of the Z boson at the LEP experiment, the mass below 43 GeV is excluded with the 95% C.L. It turns out that the results from four charged lepton searches at LEP do not provide any significant constraint. We show that a new lower bound is obtained in the diboson decay scenario at the LHC with the collision energy to be 7 TeV and the integrated luminosity to be 4.7 fb$^{-1}$. By using the data of the same-sign dilepton events, the lower limit is found to be 60 GeV at the 95% C.L. By the extrapolation of the data to 20 fb$^{-1}$ with the same collision energy, the lower limit is evaluated to be 85 GeV.

Higgs inflation in a radiative seesaw model

We investigate a simple model to explain inflation, neutrino masses and dark matter simultaneously. This is based on the so-called radiative seesaw model proposed by Ma in order to explain neutrino masses and dark matter by introducing a $Z_2$-odd isospin doublet scalar field and $Z_2$-odd right-handed neutrinos. We study the possibility that the Higgs boson as well as neutral components of the $Z_2$-odd scalar doublet field can satisfy conditions from slow-roll inflation and vacuum stability up to the inflation scale. We find that a part of parameter regions where these scalar fields can play a role of an inflaton is compatible with the current data from neutrino experiments and those of the dark matter abundance as well as the direct search results. A phenomenological consequence of this scenario results in a specific mass spectrum of scalar bosons, which can be tested at the LHC, the International Linear Collider and the Compact Linear Collider.

Loop Suppression of Dirac Neutrino Mass in the Neutrinophilic Two Higgs Doublet Model

We extend the scalar sector of the neutrinophilic two Higgs doublet model, where small masses of Dirac neutrinos are obtained via a small vacuum expectation value v_nu of the neutrinophilic SU(2)_L-doublet scalar field which has a Yukawa interaction with only right-handed neutrinos. A global U(1)_X symmetry is used for the neutrinophilic nature of the second SU(2)_L-doublet scalar field and also for eliminating Majorana mass terms of neutrinos. By virtue of an appropriate assignment of the U(1)_X-charges to new particles, our model has an unbroken Z_2 symmetry, under which the lightest Z_2-odd scalar boson can be a dark matter candidate. In our model, v_nu is generated by the one-loop diagram to which Z_2-odd particles contribute. We briefly discuss a possible signature of our model at the LHC.

In Higgs sectors with exotic Higgs representations, the $hZZ$ and $hWW$ coupling constants can be larger than those in the standard model. We calculate deviations in the Higgs boson couplings from standard model values in the model with a real or complex triplet field, the Georgi-Machacek model and the model with a septet scalar field. Reconstruction of Inert Doublet Scalars at the International Linear Collider

We study collider signatures for extra scalar bosons in the inert doublet model at the international linear collider (ILC). The inert doublet model is a simple extension of the standard model by introducing an additional isospin-doublet scalar field which is odd under an unbroken Z_2 symmetry. The model predicts four kinds of Z_2-odd scalar bosons, and the lightest of them becomes stable and a candidate of the dark matter as long as it is electrically neutral. Taking into account the constraints from various theoretical and phenomenological conditions, we perform a simulation study for the distinctive signatures of the extra scalars over the standard-model background contributions at the ILC with the center-of-mass energy of sqrt{s} = 250 GeV and 500 GeV. We further discuss observables for determination of the mass of the scalars. We find that the parameter regions which cannot be detected at the large hadron collider can be probed at the ILC.

The International Linear Collider Technical Design Report - Volume 2: Physics

The International Linear Collider Technical Design Report (TDR) describes in four volumes the physics case and the design of a 500 GeV centre-of-mass energy linear electron-positron collider based on superconducting radio-frequency technology using Niobium cavities as the accelerating structures. The accelerator can be extended to 1 TeV and also run as a Higgs factory at around 250 GeV and on the Z0 pole. A comprehensive value estimate of the accelerator is give, together with associated uncertainties. It is shown that no significant technical issues remain to be solved. Once a site is selected and the necessary site-dependent engineering is carried out, construction can begin immediately. The TDR also gives baseline documentation for two high-performance detectors that can share the ILC luminosity by being moved into and out of the beam line in a "push-pull" configuration. These detectors, ILD and SiD, are described in detail. They form the basis for a world-class experimental programme that promises to increase significantly our understanding of the fundamental processes that govern the evolution of the Universe.

From the sensitivity to the anomalous self-coupling of the Higgs boson, the optimum $γγ$ collision energy was found to be around 270 GeV for a Higgs mass of 120 GeV/$c^2$. We found that large backgrounds such as $γγ\rightarrow W^+W^-, ZZ,$ and $b\bar{b}b\bar{b}$, can be suppressed if correct assignment of tracks to parent partons is achieved and Higgs pair events can be observed with a statistical significance of $\sim 5 σ$ by operating the PLC for 5 years.

A light Higgs scenario based on the TeV-scale supersymmetric strong dynamics

We consider a model based on the supersymmetric QCD theory with N_c=2 and N_f=3. The theory is strongly coupled at the infrared scale Λ_H. Its low energy effective theory below Λ_H is described by the supersymmetric standard model with the Higgs sector that contains four iso-spin doublets, two neutral iso-spin singlets and two charged iso-spin singlets. If Λ_H is at the multi-TeV to 10 TeV, coupling constants for the F-terms of these composite fields are relatively large at the electroweak scale. Nevertheless, the SM-like Higgs boson is predicted to be as light as 125 GeV because these F-terms contribute to the mass of the SM-like Higgs boson not at the tree level but at the one-loop level. A large non-decoupling effect due to these F-terms appears in the one-loop correction to the triple Higgs boson coupling, which amounts to a few tens percent. Such a non-decoupling property in the Higgs potential realizes the strong first order phase transition, which is required for a successful scenario of electroweak baryogenesis.

Dark matter and a suppression mechanism for neutrino masses in the Higgs triplet model

We extend the Higgs triplet model so as to include dark matter candidates and a simple suppression mechanism for the vacuum expectation value (v_Delta) of the triplet scalar field. The smallness of neutrino masses can be naturally explained with the suppressed value of v_Delta even when the triplet fields are at the TeV scale. The Higgs sector is extended by introducing Z_2-odd scalars (an SU(2)_L doublet eta and a real singlet s_2^0) in addition to a Z_2-even complex singlet scalar s_1^0 whose vacuum expectation value violates the lepton number conservation by a unit. In our model, v_Delta is generated by the one-loop diagram to which Z_2-odd particles contribute. The lightest Z_2-odd scalar boson can be a candidate for the dark matter. We briefly discuss a characteristic signal of our model at the LHC.

Decoupling Property of SUSY Extended Higgs Sectors and Implication for Electroweak Baryogenesis

One-loop contributions to the Higgs potential at finite temperatures are discussed in the supersymmetric standard model with four Higgs doublet chiral superfields as well as a pair of charged singlet chiral superfields. The mass of the lightest Higgs boson $h$ is determined only by the D-term at the tree-level in this model, while the triple Higgs boson coupling for $hhh$ can receive a significant radiative correction. The same nondecoupling effect can also contribute to realize the sufficient first order electroweak phase transition, which is required for a successful scenario of electroweak baryogenesis. This model can be a new candidate for a model in which the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is explained at the electroweak scale. Multi-tau lepton signatures in leptophilic two Higgs doublet model at the ILC

In the THDM-X, new Higgs bosons mostly decay into tau leptons in the wide range of the parameter space. Such scalar bosons are less constrained by current experimental data, because of the suppressed quark Yukawa interactions. We discuss a search strategy of the THDM-X with multi-tau lepton final states at International linear collider and Large Hadron Collider. Radiative corrections to electroweak parameters in the Higgs triplet model and implication with the recent Higgs boson searches

We study radiative corrections to the electroweak parameters in the Higgs model with the Y=1 triplet field, which is introduced in the scenario of generating neutrino masses based on the so-called type II seesaw mechanism. In this model, the rho parameter deviates from unity at the tree level. Consequently, the electroweak sector of the model is described by the four input parameters such as $α_{\text{em}}$, $G_F$, $m_Z$ and $\sin^2θ_W$. We calculate the one loop contribution to the W boson mass as well as to the rho parameter in order to clarify the possible mass spectrum of the extra Higgs bosons under the constraint from the electroweak precision data. We find that the hierarchical mass spectrum among $H^{\pm\pm}$, $H^{\pm}$ and $A$ (or $H$) is favored by the precision data especially for the case of $m_A$ $(\simeq m_H)>m_{H^+}>m_{H^{++}}$, where $H^{\pm\pm}$, $H^{\pm}$, $A$ and $H$ are the doubly-charged, singly-charged, CP-odd and CP-even Higgs bosons mainly originated from the triplet field. We also discuss phenomenological consequences of such a mass spectrum with relatively large mass splitting. Radiative corrections to the Higgs boson couplings in the triplet model

We calculate a full set of one-loop corrections to the Higgs boson coupling constants as well as the electroweak parameters. We compute the decay rate of the standard model (SM)-like Higgs boson ($h$) into diphoton. Renormalized Higgs couplings with the weak gauge bosons $hVV$ ($V=W$ and $Z$) and the trilinear coupling $hhh$ are also calculated at the one-loop level in the on-shell scheme. Magnitudes of the deviations in these quantities are evaluated in the parameter regions where the unitarity and vacuum stability bounds are satisfied and the predicted W boson mass at the one-loop level is consistent with the data. We find that there are strong correlations among deviations in the Higgs boson couplings $hγγ$, $hVV$ and $hhh$. For example, if the event number of the $pp\to h\toγγ$ channel deviates by +30% (-40%) from the SM prediction, deviations in the one-loop corrected $hVV$ and $hhh$ vertices are predicted about -0.1% (-2%) and -10% $(+150%)$, respectively. The model can be discriminated from the other models by measuring these coupling constants accurately at future collider experiments.

Radiative type-I seesaw model with dark matter via U(1)_{B-L} gauge symmetry breaking at future linear colliders

We discuss phenomenology of the radiative seesaw model in which spontaneous breaking of the U(1)$_{B-L}$ gauge symmetry at the TeV scale gives the common origin for masses of neutrinos and dark matter (Kanemura et al., 2012). In this model, the stability of dark matter is realized by the global U(1)$_{DM}$ symmetry which arises by the B$-$L charge assignment. Right-handed neutrinos obtain TeV scale Majorana masses at the tree level. Dirac masses of neutrinos are generated via one-loop diagrams. Consequently, tiny neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level by the seesaw mechanism. This model gives characteristic predictions, such as light decayable right-handed neutrinos, Dirac fermion dark matter and an extra heavy vector boson. These new particles would be accessible at collider experiments because their masses are at the TeV scale. The U(1)$_{B-L}$ vector boson may be found at the LHC, while the other new particles could only be tested at future linear colliders. We find that the dark matter can be observed at a linear collider with $\sqrt{s}$=500 GeV and that light right-handed neutrinos can also be probed with $\sqrt{s}$=1 TeV.

Renormalization of the Higgs sector in the triplet model

We study radiative corrections to the mass spectrum and the triple Higgs boson coupling in the model with an additional Y=1 triplet field. In this model, the vacuum expectation value for the triplet field is strongly constrained from the electroweak precision data, under which characteristic mass spectrum appear at the tree level; i.e., $m_{H^{++}}^2-m_{H^+}^2\simeq m_{H^+}^2-m_A^2$ and $m_A^2\simeq m_H^2$, where the CP-even ($H$), the CP-odd ($A$) and the doubly-charged ($H^{\pm\pm}$) as well as the singly-charged ($H^\pm$) Higgs bosons are the triplet-like. We evaluate how the tree-level formulae are modified at the one-loop level. The $hhh$ coupling for the standard model-like Higgs boson ($h$) is also calculated at the one-loop level. One-loop corrections to these quantities can be large enough for identification of the model by future precision data at the LHC or the International Linear Collider.

Search for Lepton Number Violating Charged Current Processes with Neutrino Beams

We propose a new idea to test a class of loop-induced neutrino mass mechanisms by searching for lepton number violating charged current processes with incident of a neutrino beam. The expected rates of these processes are estimated based on some theoretical assumptions. They turn out to be sizable so that detection of such processes could be possible at near detectors in future highly intense neutrino-beam facilities.

Testing the Higgs triplet model with the mass difference at the LHC

In general, there can be mass differences among scalar bosons of the Higgs triplet field with the hypercharge of Y=1. In the Higgs triplet model, when the vacuum expectation value $v_Δ$ of the triplet field is much smaller than that $v$ ($\simeq 246$ GeV) of the Higgs doublet field as required by the electroweak precision data, a characteristic mass spectrum $ m_{H^{++}}^2-m_{H^+}^2\simeq m_{H^+}^2-m_{ϕ^0}^2(\equiv ξ)$ appears, where $m_{H^{++}}$, $m_{H^+}$, $m_{ϕ^0}$ are the masses of the doubly-charged ($H^{++}$), the singly-charged ($H^+$) and the neutral ($ϕ^0=H^0$ or $A^0$) scalar bosons, respectively. It should be emphasized that phenomenology with $ξ\neq 0$ is drastically different from that in the case with $ξ=0$ where the doubly-charged scalar boson decays into the same sign dilepton $\ell^+\ell^+$ or the diboson $W^+W^+$ depending on the size of $v_Δ$. We find that, in the case of $ξ> 0$, where $H^{++}$ is the heaviest, $H^{++}$ can be identified via the cascade decays such as $H^{++}\to H^+W^{+(*)}\to ϕ^0 W^{+(*)}W^{+(*)}\to b\bar{b}\ell^+ν\ell^+ν$. We outline how the Higgs triplet model can be explored in such a case at the LHC. By the determination of the mass spectrum, the model can be tested and further can be distinguished from the other models with doubly-charged scalar bosons.

TeV-Scale Seesaw with Loop-Induced Dirac Mass Term and Dark Matter from U(1)_{B-L} Gauge Symmetry Breaking

We show a TeV-scale seesaw model where Majorana neutrino masses, the dark matter mass, and stability of the dark matter can be all originated from the U(1)_{B-L} gauge symmetry. Dirac mass terms for neutrinos are forbidden at the tree level by U(1)_{B-L}, and they are induced at the one-loop level by spontaneous U(1)_{B-L} breaking. The right-handed neutrinos can be naturally at the TeV-scale or below because of the induced Dirac mass terms with loop suppression. Such right-handed neutrinos would be discovered at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC). On the other hand, stability of the dark matter is guaranteed without introducing an additional Z_2 symmetry by a remaining global U(1) symmetry after the U(1)_{B-L} breaking. A Dirac fermion Psi_1 or a complex neutral scalar s^0_1 is the dark matter candidate in this model. Since the dark matter (Psi_1 or s^0_1) has its own B-L charge, the invisible decay of the U(1)_{B-L} gauge boson Z' is enhanced. Experimental constraints on the model are considered, and the collider phenomenology at the LHC as well as future linear colliders is discussed briefly.

Decoupling property of the supersymmetric Higgs sector with four doublets

In supersymmetric standard models with multi Higgs doublet fields, selfcoupling constants in the Higgs potential come only from the D-terms at the tree level. We investigate the decoupling property of additional two heavier Higgs doublet fields in the supersymmetric standard model with four Higgs doublets. In particular, we study how they can modify the predictions on the quantities well predicted in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), when the extra doublet fields are rather heavy to be measured at collider experiments. The B-term mixing between these extra heavy Higgs bosons and the relatively light MSSM-like Higgs bosons can significantly change the predictions in the MSSM such as on the masses of MSSM-like Higgs bosons as well as the mixing angle for the two light CP-even scalar states. We first give formulae for deviations in the observables of the MSSM in the decoupling region for the extra two doublet fields. We then examine possible deviations in the Higgs sector numerically, and discuss their phenomenological implications.

Doubly-charged scalar bosons from the doublet

We consider the extended Higgs models, in which one of the isospin doublet scalar fields carries the hypercharge Y=3/2. Such a doublet field $Φ_{3/2}$ is composed of a doubly charged scalar boson as well as a singly charged one. We first discuss a simple model with $Φ_{3/2}$ (Model I), and study its collider phenomenology at the LHC. We then consider a new model for radiatively generating neutrino masses with a dark matter candidate (Model II), in which $Φ_{3/2}$ and an extra Y=1/2 doublet as well as vector-like singlet fermions carry the odd quantum number for an unbroken discrete $Z_2$ symmetry. We also discuss the neutrino mass model (Model III), in which the exact $Z_2$ parity in Model II is softly broken. It is found that the doubly charged scalar bosons in these models show different phenomenological aspects from those which appear in models with a Y=2 isospin singlet field or a Y=1 triplet one. They could be clearly distinguished at the LHC.

First-order electroweak phase transition powered by additional F-term loop effects in an extended supersymmetric Higgs sector

We investigate the one-loop effect of new charged scalar bosons on the Higgs potential at finite temperatures in the supersymmetric standard model with four Higgs doublet chiral superfields as well as a pair of charged singlet chiral superfields. In this model, the mass of the lightest Higgs boson $h$ is determined only by the D-term in the Higgs potential at the tree-level, while the triple Higgs boson coupling for $hhh$ can receive a significant radiative correction due to nondecoupling one-loop contributions of the additional charged scalar bosons. We find that the same nondecoupling mechanism can also contribute to realize stronger first order electroweak phase transition than that in the minimal supersymmetric standard model, which is definitely required for a successful scenario of electroweak baryogenesis. Therefore, this model can be a new candidate for a model in which the baryon asymmetry of the Universe is explained at the electroweak scale.

Indirect bounds on heavy scalar masses of the two-Higgs-doublet model in light of recent Higgs boson searches

We study an upper bound on masses of additional scalar bosons from the electroweak precision data and theoretical constraints such as perturbative unitarity and vacuum stability in the two Higgs doublet model taking account of recent Higgs boson search results. If the mass of the Standard-Model-like Higgs boson is rather heavy and is outside the allowed region by the electroweak precision data, such a discrepancy should be compensated by contributions from the additional scalar bosons. We show the upper bound on masses of the additional scalar bosons to be about 2 $(1)$ TeV for the mass of the Standard-Model-like Higgs boson to be 240 $(500)$ GeV.

Light Charged Higgs bosons at the LHC in 2HDMs

We present a discussion of light charged Higgs boson searches at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in CP-conserving 2-Higgs Doublet Models (2HDMs). Taking into account all available experimental and theoretical constraints we review all possible processes that would allow for a detection of such a particle with a mass below the top quark mass. Two different types of processes are analysed: one that depends only on tan beta and on the charged Higgs boson mass because it involves only the charged Higgs boson Yukawa couplings; the other that depends on almost all model parameters, mainly due to the presence of Higgs self-couplings. We discuss the regions of parameter space of 2HDMs that can be covered be each type of process and define some guidelines for experimental searches at the LHC.

Masses of dark matter and neutrino from TeV scale spontaneous $U(1)_{B-L}$ breaking

We propose a simple testable model with mass generation mechanisms for dark matter and neutrino based on the gauged $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry and an exact $Z_2$ parity. The $U(1)_{B-L}$ symmetry is spontaneously broken at the TeV scale, by which $Z_2$-odd right-handed neutrinos receive Majorana masses of the electroweak scale. The lightest one is a dark matter candidate, whose stability is guaranteed by the $Z_2$ parity. Resulting lepton number violation is transmitted to the left-handed neutrinos $ν_L^i$ via the loop-induced dimension-six operator. Consequently, the tiny masses of $ν_L^i$ can be generated without excessive fine tuning. The observed dark matter abundance can be reproduced by the pair annihilation via the s-channel scalar exchange due to mixing of neutral components of $Φ$ and $S$, where $Φ$ and $S$ respectively represent the Higgs doublet and the additional scalar singlet with the $B-L$ charge. The model can be tested at collider experiments as well as flavor experiments through the discriminative predictions such as two light neutral Higgs bosons with large mixing, invisible decays of the Higgs bosons as well as the $B-L$ gauge boson, and lepton flavor violation.

Multi-tau-lepton signatures at the LHC in the two Higgs doublet model

A detailed simulation study is performed for multi-tau-lepton signatures at the Large Hadron Collider, which can be used to probe additional Higgs bosons with lepton-specific Yukawa interactions. Such an extended Higgs sector is introduced in some of new physics models at the TeV scale. We here consider the two Higgs doublet model with the Type-X Yukawa interaction, where nonstandard Higgs bosons predominantly decay into tau leptons. These extra Higgs bosons can be pair produced via s-channel gauge boson mediation at hadron colliders; q \bar q \to Z \to HA and q \bar q' \to W^\pm \to HH^\pm (AH^\pm), where H, A and H^\pm are CP-even, odd and charged Higgs bosons, respectively. Consequently, multi-tau-lepton originated signals appear in the final state as a promising signature of such a model. We find that the main background can be considerably reduced by requiring the high multiplicity of leptons and tau-jets with appropriate kinematical cuts in the final state. Thus, assuming the integrated luminosity of a hundred of inverse fb, the excess can be seen in various three- and four-lepton channels. With the integrated luminosity of thousands of inverse fb, the determination of the mass as well as ratios of leptonic decay branching ratios of these Higgs bosons would also be possible.

Neutrino Masses from Loop-Induced Dirac Yukawa Couplings

We consider a possibility to naturally explain tiny neutrino masses without the lepton number violation. We study a simple model with SU(2)_L singlet charged scalars (s_1^+, s_2^+) as well as singlet right-handed neutrino (nu_R). Yukawa interactions for Dirac neutrinos, which are forbidden at the tree level by a softly-broken Z_2 symmetry, are induced at the one-loop level via the soft-breaking term in the scalar potential. Consequently neutrinos obtain small Dirac masses after the electroweak symmetry breaking. It is found that constrains from neutrino oscillation measurements and lepton flavor violation search results (especially for mu to e gamma) can be satisfied. We study the decay pattern of the singlet charged scalars, which could be tested at the LHC and the ILC. We discuss possible extensions also, e.g. to introduce dark matter candidate.

Non-decoupling effects in supersymmetric Higgs sectors

A wide class of Higgs sectors is investigated in supersymmetric standard models. When the lightest Higgs boson (h) looks the standard model one, the mass (m_h) and the triple Higgs boson coupling (the hhh coupling) are evaluated at the one-loop level in each model. While m_h is at most 120-130 GeV in the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM), that in models with an additional neutral singlet or triplet fields can be much larger. The hhh coupling can also be sensitive to the models: while in the MSSM the deviation from the standard model prediction is not significant, that can be 30-60 % in some models such as the MSSM with the additional singlet or with extra doublets and charged singlets. These models are motivated by specific physics problems like the mu-problem, the neutrino mass, the scalar dark matter and so on. Therefore, when h is found at the CERN Large Hadron Collider, we can classify supersymmetric models by measuring m_h and the hhh coupling accurately at future collider experiments.

Testing Higgs models via the $H^\pm W^\mp Z$ vertex by a recoil method at the International Linear Collider

In general, charged Higgs bosons $H^\pm$ appear in non-minimal Higgs models. The $H^\pm W^\mp Z$ vertex is known to be related to the violation of the global symmetry (custodial symmetry) in the Higgs sector. Its magnitude strongly depends on the structure of the exotic Higgs models which contain higher isospin $SU(2)_L$ representations such as triplet Higgs bosons. We study the possibility of measuring the $H^\pm W^\mp Z$ vertex via single charged Higgs boson production associated with the $W^\pm$ boson at the International Linear Collider (ILC) by using the recoil method. The feasibility of the signal $e^+e^-\to H^\pm W^\mp \to \ell νjj$ is analyzed assuming the polarized electron and positron beams and the expected detector performance for the resolution of the two-jet system at the ILC. The background events can be reduced to a considerable extent by imposing the kinematic cuts even if we take into account the initial state radiation. For a relatively light charged Higgs boson whose mass $m_{H^\pm}$ is in the region of 120-130 GeV $< m_{H^\pm} < m_W+m_Z$, the $H^\pm W^\mp Z$ vertex would be precisely testable especially when the decay of $H^\pm$ is lepton specific. The exoticness of the extended Higgs sector can be explored by using combined information for this vertex and the rho parameter.

Testing Higgs portal dark matter via $Z$ fusion at a linear collider

We investigate the possibility of detecting dark matter at TeV scale linear colliders in the scenario where the dark matter is a massive particle weakly interacting only with the Higgs boson $h$ in the low energy effective theory (the Higgs portal dark matter scenario). The dark matter in this scenario would be difficult to be tested at the CERN Large Hadron Collider when the decay of the Higgs boson into a dark matter pair is not kinematically allowed. We study whether even in such a case the dark matter $D$ can be explored or not via the $Z$ boson fusion process at the International Linear Collider and also at a multi TeV lepton collider. It is found that for the collision energy $\sqrt{S}>1$ TeV with the integrated luminosity 1 ab$^{-1}$, the signal ($e^{\pm}e^-\to e^{\pm}e^-h^\ast \to e^{\pm}e^-DD$) can be seen after appropriate kinematic cuts. In particular, when the dark matter is a fermion or a vector, which is supposed to be singlet under the standard gauge symmetry, the signal with the mass up to 100 GeV can be tested for the Higgs boson mass to be 120 GeV.

Triviality and vacuum stability bounds in the three-loop neutrino mass model

We study theoretical constraints on the parameter space under the conditions from vacuum stability and triviality in the three-loop radiative seesaw model with TeV-scale right-handed neutrinos which are odd under the $Z_2$ parity. In this model, some of the neutrino Yukawa coupling constants can be of the order of one. Requirement of strongly first order phase transition for successful electroweak baryogenes is also prefers order-one coupling constants in the scalar sector. Hence, it is important to clarify whether this model satisfies those theoretical conditions up to a given cutoff scale. It is found that the model can be consistent up to the scale above 10 TeV in the parameter region where the neutrino data, the lepton flavor violation data, the thermal relic abundance of dark matter as well as the requirement from the strongly first order phase transition are satisfied.

An R-parity conserving radiative neutrino mass model without right-handed neutrinos

The model proposed by A. Zee (1986) and K.S. Babu (1988) is a simple radiative seesaw model, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated at the two-loop level. We investigate a supersymmetric extension of the Zee-Babu model under R-parity conservation. The lightest superpartner particle can then be a dark matter candidate. We find that the neutrino data can be reproduced with satisfying current data from lepton flavour violation even in the scenario where not all the superpartner particles are heavy. Phenomenology at the Large Hadron Collider is also discussed.

Can WIMP Dark Matter overcome the Nightmare Scenario?

Even if new physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) indeed exists, the energy scale of new physics might be beyond the reach at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the LHC could find only the Higgs boson but nothing else. This is the so-called "nightmare scenario". On the other hand, the existence of the dark matter has been established from various observations. One of the promising candidates for thermal relic dark matter is a stable and electric charge-neutral Weakly Interacting Massive Particle (WIMP) with the mass below the TeV scale. In the nightmare scenario, we introduce a WIMP dark matter singlet under the SM gauge group, which only couples to the Higgs doublet at the lowest order, and investigate a possibility that such WIMP dark matter can be a clue to overcome the nightmare scenario via various phenomenological tests such as the dark matter relic abundance, the direct detection experiments for the dark matter particle, and the production of the dark matter particle at the LHC.

Higgs boson pair production at the Photon Linear Collider in the two Higgs doublet model

We calculate the cross section of the lightest Higgs boson pair production at the Photon Linear Collider in the two Higgs doublet model. We focus on the scenario in which the lightest Higgs boson has the standard model like couplings to gauge bosons. We take into account the one-loop correction to the $hhh$ coupling as well as additional one-loop diagrams due to charged bosons to the $γγ\to hh$ helicity amplitudes. We discuss the impact of these corrections on the $hhh$ coupling measurement at the Photon Linear Collider.

Higgs boson pair production in new physics models at hadron, lepton, and photon colliders

We study Higgs boson pair production processes at future hadron and lepton colliders including the photon collision option in several new physics models; i.e., the two-Higgs-doublet model, the scalar leptoquark model, the sequential fourth generation fermion model and the vector-like quark model. Cross sections for these processes can deviate significantly from the standard model predictions due to the one-loop correction to the triple Higgs boson coupling constant. For the one-loop induced processes such as $gg \to hh$ and $γγ\to hh$, where $h$ is the (lightest) Higgs boson and $g$ and $γ$ respectively represent a gluon and a photon, the cross sections can also be affected by new physics particles via additional one-loop diagrams. In the two-Higgs-doublet model and scalar leptoquark models, cross sections of $e^+e^-\to hhZ$ and $γγ\to hh$ can be enhanced due to the non-decoupling effect in the one-loop corrections to the triple Higgs boson coupling constant. In the sequential fourth generation fermion model, the cross section for $gg\to hh$ becomes very large because of the loop effect of the fermions. In the vector-like quark model, effects are small because the theory has decoupling property. Measurements of the Higgs boson pair production processes can be useful to explore new physics through the determination of the Higgs potential.

Under the constraints from the current data of muon and tau rare decay, the cross section can be significantly large. Multi-Higgs portal dark matter under the CDMS II results

In a scenario of Higgs portal dark matter, Higgs exchange processes are essential for both dark matter annihilation in the early Universe and direct search experiments. The CDMS II collaboration has recently released their final results on direct dark matter searches. We study a scalar dark matter model with multi-Higgs doublets under the constraint from the CDMS II results and also from the WMAP data. We find that the possible maximal value for the branching ratio of the invisible decay of the Higgs boson can be significantly greater than that in the Higgs portal model with one Higgs doublet, in particular, for the case of the so-called Type-X Yukawa interaction. Therefore, the search for the invisible decay of the Higgs boson at the CERN Large Hadron Collider and future collider experiments would provide useful information not only for the nature of dark matter but also for the structure of the Higgs sector even without directly detecting any extra scalar boson.

Neutrino Masses from Loop-induced $d \geq 7$ Operators

We propose a new scenario where neutrino masses are generated via operators with the mass dimension higher than five, which are induced at the loop level. The scenario is demonstrated with concrete models where neutrino masses are generated via a one-loop dimension-seven operator which is induced through TeV scale dynamics under the exact $Z_{2}$ symmetry. Tiny neutrino masses are naturally induced from the TeV scale dynamics without introducing any artificial assumption on magnitudes of coupling constants. The combination of one-loop factor $1/(4π)^2$ and the factor of the ratio $(v/Λ)^2$ between the electroweak scale $v$ and new physics scale $Λ$ provides sufficient suppression as compared to the model based on the dimension-five operator induced at the tree level. The reproduction of the data for neutrino masses and mixings are discussed under the constraint from experiments for lepton flavour violation. We also mention phenomenological implications at collider experiments and dark matter candidates.

Observing the Coupling between Dark Matter and Higgs Boson at the ILC

One of the main purposes on physics at the International Linear Collider (ILC) is to study the property of dark matter such as its mass, spin, and interactions between the dark matter and particles in the standard model. Among those, the interaction between dark matter and higgs boson is important, because, if the dark matter is a weakly interacting massive particle, the existence of the dark matter is expected to relate to physics of electroweak symmetry breaking. In addition, the interaction plays an important role at direct detection experiments of dark matter. In this report, we discuss how accurately the coupling constant of the interaction can be measured at the ILC with the center of mass energy less than 500 GeV.

Probing the Majorana nature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models at collider experiments

A general feature of TeV-scale radiative seesaw models, in which tiny neutrino masses are generated via loop corrections, is an extended scalar (Higgs) sector. Another feature is the Majorana nature; e.g., introducing right-handed neutrinos with TeV-scale Majorana masses under the discrete symmetry, or otherwise introducing some lepton number violating interactions in the scalar sector. We study phenomenological aspects of these models at collider experiments. We find that, while properties of the extended Higgs sector of these models can be explored to some extent, the Majorana nature of the models can also be tested directly at the International Linear Collider via the electron-positron and electron-electron collision experiments.

Proceedings of the ILC Physics Working Group Meeting at KEK in the period from May 2007 to June 2009

The ILC physics working group is a mixture of experimentalists and theorists mainly working in Japan. It has its origin in the previous LC physics study group and has been reformed with the initiative of a JSPS Creative Scientific Research project: "Research and Development of a Novel Detector System for the International Linear Collider". The working group is, however, formally independent of the JSPS project and is open to everybody who is interested in ILC physics. The primary task of the working group is to reexamine the ILC physics in the context of the expected LHC outcome and to further strengthen the physics case for the ILC project. The topics covered in the working group activities range from key measurements such as those of the Higgs self-coupling and the top Yukawa coupling to uncover the secrets of the electroweak symmetry breaking to various new physics scenarios like supersymmetry, large extra dimensions, and other models of terascale physics. The working group has held ten General Meetings in the period of May 2007 to June 2009 to discuss the topics mentioned above. This report ummarizes the progress made in this period and sets a milestone for future developments in ILC physics.

Effects of the anomalous Higgs couplings on the Higgs boson production at the Large Hadron Collider

We study the impact of dimension-six operators on single- and double-Higgs production rates via gluon fusion at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). If the top-Yukawa coupling is modified by some new physics whose scale is of the TeV scale, its effect changes the cross sections of single-Higgs production $gg\to H$ and double-Higgs production $gg\to HH$ through the top-loop diagram. In particular, double-Higgs production can receive significant enhancement from the effective top-Yukawa coupling and the new dimension-five coupling $t{\bar t}HH$ which are induced by the dimension-six operator. Comparing these results to the forthcoming data at the LHC, one can extract information of the dimension-six operators relevant to the top quark and the Higgs boson.

Dimension-six top-Higgs interaction and its effect in collider phenomenology

Measurement of the Yukawa interaction between the top quark and the Higgs boson should be useful to clarify the mechanism of fermion mass generation. We discuss the impact of non-standard interactions characterized by dimension-six operators on the effective top Yukawa coupling. The cross section of the process $e^-e^+ \to W^-W^+ ν\bar ν\to t \bar t ν\bar ν$ is calculated including these operators, and possible deviation from the standard model prediction is evaluated under the constraint from perturbative unitarity and current experimental data. We find that if the new physics scale is in a TeV region, the cross section can be significantly enhanced due to the non-standard interactions. Such a large effect should be detectable at the International Linear Collider.

Lepton flavor violation in Higgs boson decays under the rare tau decay results

We study lepton flavor violation (LFV) associated with tau leptons in the framework of the two Higgs doublet model, in which LFV couplings are introduced as a deviation from Model II Yukawa interaction. Parameters of the model are constrained from experimental results and also from requirements of theoretical consistencies such as vacuum stability and perturbative unitarity. Current data for rare tau decays provide substantial upper limits on the LFV Yukawa couplings in the large $\tanβ$ region ($\tanβ\gtrsim 30 $), which are comparable with predictions in fundamental theories. Here $\tanβ$ is the ratio of vacuum expectation values of the two Higgs doublets. We show that a search for the LFV decays $ϕ^{0} \to τ^\pm μ^\mp$ $(τ^\pm e^\mp)$ of neutral Higgs bosons ($ϕ^{0} =h,H$ and $A$) at future collider experiments can be useful to further constrain the LFV couplings especially in the relatively small $\tanβ$ region ($\tanβ\lesssim 30 $), where rare tau decay data cannot give any strong limit.

A sufficient lepton number asymmetry can be produced for successful leptogenesis. The lepton flavor violating process mu to e gamma can be enhanced due to the Majorana phase, so that it can be detectable at forthcoming experiments. We find that in the scenario with universal soft-breaking terms sizable phase effects can appear on the lepton flavor violating processes such as $μ\to e γ$, $τ\to e γ$, and $τ\to μγ$. In particular, the branching ratio of $μ\to e γ$ can be considerably enhanced due to the Majorana phases, so that it can be much greater than that of $τ\to μγ$.

The $H^\pm W^\mp Z^0$ vertex and single charged Higgs boson production via $WZ$ fusion at the Large Hadron Collider

There is a variety of new physics scenarios which deduce extended Higgs sectors in the low energy effective theory. The coupling of a singly-charged Higgs boson ($H^\pm$) with weak gauge bosons, $H^\pm W^\mp Z^0$, directly depends on the global symmetry structure of the model, so that its experimental determination can be useful to test each scenario. We discuss predictions on this coupling in several models, such as the model with additional real and complex triplets, the Littlest Higgs model, the two Higgs doublet model and the minimal supersymmetric standard model. In order to measure the $H^\pm W^\mp Z^0$ coupling we consider single $H^\pm$ production via the $WZ$ fusion mechanism at the CERN Large Hadron Collider. The production rate is hierarchically different among these models, so that this process can be useful to explore new physics scenarios.

New mechanism for the top-bottom mass hierarchy

We propose a mechanism to generate hierarchy between masses of the top and bottom quarks without fine tuning of the Yukawa coupling constants in the context of the two Higgs doublet model (THDM). In the THDM with a discrete symmetry, there exists the vacuum where only the top quark receives the mass of the order of the electroweak symmetry breaking scale $v(\simeq 246 GeV)$, while the bottom quark remains massless. By introducing a small soft-breaking parameter $m_3^2$ of the discrete symmetry, the bottom quark perturbatively acquires a nonzero mass. We show a model in which the small $m_3^2 [\sim v^2/(4π)^2]$ is generated by the dynamics above the cutoff scale of the THDM. The ratio $\tanβ$ of the two vacuum expectation values is necessarily very large; i.e., $\tan β\sim m_t/m_b$. We also find a salient relation, $1/\tanβ\simeq m_3^2/m_H^2$, where $m_H$ is the mass of the extra CP-even Higgs boson. Our scenario yields some specific features that can be tested in future collider experiments.

Can the charged Higgs boson be discovered in $eγ$ collisions using the channel $e^-γ\toνH^-$?

We consider the single production of charged Higgs bosons $H^\pm$ of the two-Higgs-doublet model in $eγ$ collisions through the production subprocess $e^-γ\toνH^-$. As the production rate is governed by the size of the loop-induced $H^\pm W^\mpγ$ coupling, the cross section can only be substantial for smaller values of $\tanβ$, $\tanβ\lesssim1$, where the top-bottom loop contribution is enhanced. In this case, however, the natural width of the charged Higgs boson becomes large so that the Standard Model continuum background becomes important. We study the background subprocess $e^-γ\toν\bar t b$ including the interference with the signal, and find that in the region of charged Higgs mass that can be interesting, the signal is difficult to detect.

Possible enhancement of the $e^+ e^- \to H^\pm W^\mp$ cross section in the two-Higgs-doublet model

The production process of the charged Higgs-boson associated with a $W$ boson at electron-positron colliders is discussed in the two-Higgs-Doublet Model (2HDM) and in the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The process is induced at one-loop level in these models. We examine how much the cross section can be enhanced by quark- and Higgs-loop effects. In the non-SUSY 2HDM, in addition to large top-bottom ($t$-$b$) loop effects for small $\tan β$ ($\ll \sqrt{m_t/m_b}$), the Higgs-loop diagrams can contribute to the cross section to some extent for moderate $\tan β$ values. For larger $\tan β$ ($\gg \sqrt{m_t/m_b}$), such enhancement by the Higgs non-decoupling effects is bounded by the requirement for validity of perturbation theory. In the MSSM with heavy super-partner particles, only the $t$-$b$ loops enhance the cross section while Higgs-loop effects are very small.

Thermodynamic properties of spontaneous magnetization in Chern-Simons QED_3

The spontaneous magnetization in Chern-Simons QED_3 is discussed in a finite temperature system. The thermodynamical potential is analyzed within the weak field approximation and in the fermion massless limit. We find that there is a linear term with respect to the magnetic field with a negative coefficient at any finite temperature. This implies that the spontaneous magnetic field does not vanish even at high temperature. In addition, we examine the photon spectrum in the system. We find that the bare Chern-Simons coefficient is cancelled by the radiative effects. The photons then become topologically massless according to the magnetization, though they are massive by finite temperature effects. Thus the magnetic field is a long-range force without the screening even at high temperature.

Radiative Corrections to the Higgs Boson Decay into a Longitudinal $W$-Boson Pair in a Two-Doublet Model

The decay rate of a (neutral) Higgs boson ($H$) going into a longitudinal $W$-boson pair is calculated by including one loop radiative corrections in a two-Higgs doublet model. It is assumed that the Higgs boson $H$ is much heavier than the $W$ boson and a full use has been made of the equivalence theorem. A possibility is explored extensively that the precise measurement of the decay rate of $H$ could be useful as a probe of the other neutral as well as charged Higgs bosons through potentially important radiative corrections. It is pointed out that, for some choice of the parameters, the radiative corrections are sizable and that there exist a possibility of extracting useful information on the other Higgs boson masses.
