A Linkage-based Doubly Imbalanced Graph Learning Framework for Face Clustering

In recent years, benefiting from the expressive power of Graph Convolutional Networks (GCNs), significant breakthroughs have been made in face clustering area. However, rare attention has been paid to GCN-based clustering on imbalanced data. Although imbalance problem has been extensively studied, the impact of imbalanced data on GCN- based linkage prediction task is quite different, which would cause problems in two aspects: imbalanced linkage labels and biased graph representations. The former is similar to that in classic image classification task, but the latter is a particular problem in GCN-based clustering via linkage prediction. Significantly biased graph representations in training can cause catastrophic over-fitting of a GCN model. To tackle these challenges, we propose a linkage-based doubly imbalanced graph learning framework for face clustering. In this framework, we evaluate the feasibility of those existing methods for imbalanced image classification problem on GCNs, and present a new method to alleviate the imbalanced labels and also augment graph representations using a Reverse-Imbalance Weighted Sampling (RIWS) strategy. With the RIWS strategy, probability-based class balancing weights could ensure the overall distribution of positive and negative samples; in addition, weighted random sampling provides diverse subgraph structures, which effectively alleviates the over-fitting problem and improves the representation ability of GCNs. Extensive experiments on series of imbalanced benchmark datasets synthesized from MS-Celeb-1M and DeepFashion demonstrate the effectiveness and generality of our proposed method. Our implementation and the synthesized datasets will be openly available on https://github.com/espectre/GCNs_on_imbalanced_datasets.

Homogeneous ACM bundles on isotropic Grassmannians

In this paper, we characterize homogeneous arithmetically Cohen-Macaulay (ACM) bundles over isotropic Grassmannians of types $B$, $C$ and $D$ in term of step matrices. We show that there are only finitely many irreducible homogeneous ACM bundles by twisting line bundles over these isotropic Grassmannians. So we classify all homogeneous ACM bundles over isotropic Grassmannians combining the results on usual Grassmannians by Costa and Mir{ó}-Roig. Moreover, if the irreducible initialized homogeneous ACM bundles correspond to some special highest weights, then they can be characterized by succinct forms.

Quench dynamics of Bose-Einstein condensates in boxlike traps

We investigate the nonequilibrium dynamics of two-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates in boxlike traps with power-law potential boundaries by quenching the interatomic interactions. For both concave and convex potentials, we show that ring dark solitons can be excited during the quench dynamics. The modulation strength of the quench and the steepness of the boundary are two main factors affecting the evolution of the system. Five dynamic regimes are identified concerning the number of ring dark solitons excited in the condensate. For the situation without ring dark soliton excitations, the condensate undergoes damped radius oscillation. As far as the appearance of ring dark solitons, interesting structures arise from their decay. For the concave potential, the excitation patterns show a nested structure of vortex-antivortex pairs. For the convex potential, on the other hand, the dynamic excitation patterns display richer structures that have multiple transport behaviors.

Convolutional discrete Fourier transform method for calculating thermal neutron cross section in liquids

Being exact at both short- and long-time limits, the Gaussian approximation is widely used to calculate neutron incoherent inelastic scattering functions in liquids. However, to overcome a few numerical difficulties, extra physical approximations are often employed to ease the evaluation. In this work, a new numerical method, called convolutional discrete Fourier transform, is proposed to perform Fourier transform of $\exp[-f(t)]$. We have applied this method to compute the differential cross sections of light water up to 10eV. The obtained results, thoroughly benchmarked against experimental data, showed a much higher dynamic range than conventional fast Fourier transform. The calculated integral cross sections agree closely with the light water data in the state-of-the-art nuclear data library. It is in evidence that this numerical method can be used in the place of the extra physical approximations.

Meta-Key: A Secure Data-Sharing Protocol under Blockchain-Based Decentralised Storage Architecture

In this letter we propose Meta-key, a data-sharing mechanism that enables users share their encrypted data under a blockchain-based decentralized storage architecture. All the data-encryption keys are encrypted by the owner's public key and put onto the blockchain for safe and secure storage and easy key-management. Encrypted data are stored in dedicated storage nodes and proxy re-encryption mechanism is used to ensure secure data-sharing in the untrusted environment. Security analysis of our model shows that the proxy re-encryption adopted in our system is naturally free from collusion-attack due to the specific architecture of Meta-key.

The Internet of Things as a Deep Neural Network

An important task in the Internet of Things (IoT) is field monitoring, where multiple IoT nodes take measurements and communicate them to the base station or the cloud for processing, inference, and analysis. This communication becomes costly when the measurements are high-dimensional (e.g., videos or time-series data). The IoT networks with limited bandwidth and low power devices may not be able to support such frequent transmissions with high data rates. To ensure communication efficiency, this article proposes to model the measurement compression at IoT nodes and the inference at the base station or cloud as a deep neural network (DNN). We propose a new framework where the data to be transmitted from nodes are the intermediate outputs of a layer of the DNN. We show how to learn the model parameters of the DNN and study the trade-off between the communication rate and the inference accuracy. The experimental results show that we can save approximately 96% transmissions with only a degradation of 2.5% in inference accuracy. Our findings have the potentiality to enable many new IoT data analysis applications generating large amount of measurements.

Vector Bundles on Flag varieties

We study vector bundles on flag varieties over an algebraically closed field $k$. In the first part, we suppose $G=G_k(d,n)$ $(2\le d\leq n-d)$ to be the Grassmannian manifold parameterizing linear subspaces of dimension $d$ in $k^n$, where $k$ is an algebraically closed field of characteristic $p>0$. Let $E$ be a uniform vector bundle over $G$ of rank $r\le d$. We show that $E$ is either a direct sum of line bundles or a twist of a pull back of the universal bundle $H_d$ or its dual $H_d^{\vee}$ by a series of absolute Frobenius maps. In the second part, splitting properties of vector bundles on general flag varieties $F(d_1,\cdots,d_s)$ in characteristic zero are considered. We prove a structure theorem for bundles over flag varieties which are uniform with respect to the $i$-th component of the manifold of lines in $F(d_1,\cdots,d_s)$. Furthermore, we generalize the Grauert-M$\ddot{\text{u}}$lich-Barth theorem to flag varieties. As a corollary, we show that any strongly uniform $i$-semistable $(1\le i\le n-1)$ bundle over the complete flag variety splits as a direct sum of special line bundles.

Vector Bundles on Rational Homogeneous Spaces

We consider a uniform $r$-bundle $E$ on a complex rational homogeneous space $X$ %over complex number field $\mathbb{C}$ and show that if $E$ is poly-uniform with respect to all the special families of lines and the rank $r$ is less than or equal to some number that depends only on $X$, then $E$ is either a direct sum of line bundles or $δ_i$-unstable for some $δ_i$. So we partially answer a problem posted by Muñoz-Occhetta-Solá Conde. In particular, if $X$ is a generalized Grassmannian $\mathcal{G}$ and the rank $r$ is less than or equal to some number that depends only on $X$, then $E$ splits as a direct sum of line bundles. We improve the main theorem of Muñoz-Occhetta-Solá Conde when $X$ is a generalized Grassmannian by considering the Chow rings. Moreover, by calculating the relative tangent bundles between two rational homogeneous spaces, we give explicit bounds for the generalized Grauert-Mülich-Barth theorem on rational homogeneous spaces.

Wirelessly-powered Sensor Networks Power Allocation for Channel Estimation and Energy Beamforming

Wirelessly-powered sensor networks (WPSNs) are becoming increasingly important in different monitoring applications. We consider a WPSN where a multiple-antenna base station, which is dedicated for energy transmission, sends pilot signals to estimate the channel state information and consequently shapes the energy beams toward the sensor nodes. Given a fixed energy budget at the base station, in this paper, we investigate the novel problem of optimally allocating the power for the channel estimation and for the energy transmission. We formulate this non-convex optimization problem for general channel estimation and beamforming schemes that satisfy some qualification conditions. We provide a new solution approach and a performance analysis in terms of optimality and complexity. We also present a closed-form solution for the case where the channels are estimated based on a least square channel estimation and a maximum ratio transmit beamforming scheme. The analysis and simulations indicate a significant gain in terms of the network sensing rate, compared to the fixed power allocation, and the importance of improving the channel estimation efficiency.

On abelian canonical n-folds of general type

Let $X$ be a Gorenstein minimal projective $n$-fold with at worst locally factorial terminal singularities, and suppose that the canonical map of $X$ is generically finite onto its image. When $n<4$, the canonical degree is universally bounded. While the possibility of obtaining a universal bound on the canonical degree of $X$ for $n \geqslant 4$ may be inaccessible, we give a uniform upper bound for the degrees of certain abelian covers. In particular, we show that if the canonical divisor $K_X$ defines an abelian cover over $\mathbb{P}^n$, i.e., when $X$ is an \emph{abelian canonical $n$-fold}, then the canonical degree of $X$ is universally upper bounded by a constant which only depends on $n$ for $X$ non-singular. We also construct two examples of non-singular minimal projective $4$-folds of general type with canonical degrees $81$ and $128$.

On higher dimensional complex Plateau problem

Let $X$ be a compact connected strongly pseudoconvex $CR$ manifold of real dimension $2n-1$ in $\mathbb{C}^{N}$. It has been an interesting question to find an intrinsic smoothness criteria for the complex Plateau problem. For $n\ge 3$ and $N=n+1$, Yau found a necessary and sufficient condition for the interior regularity of the Harvey-Lawson solution to the complex Plateau problem by means of Kohn--Rossi cohomology groups on $X$ in 1981. For $n=2$ and $N\ge n+1$, the first and third authors introduced a new CR invariant $g^{(1,1)}(X)$ of $X$. The vanishing of this invariant will give the interior regularity of the Harvey-Lawson solution up to normalization. For $n\ge 3$ and $N>n+1$, the problem still remains open. In this paper, we generalize the invariant $g^{(1,1)}(X)$ to higher dimension as $g^{(Λ^n 1)}(X)$ and show that if $g^{(Λ^n 1)}(X)=0$, then the interior has at most finite number of rational singularities. In particular, if $X$ is Calabi--Yau of real dimension $5$, then the vanishing of this invariant is equivalent to give the interior regularity up to normalization.

On the canonical degrees of Gorenstein threefolds of general type

Let $X$ be a Gorenstein minimal projective $3$-fold with at worst locally factorial terminal singularities. Suppose that the canonical map is generically finite onto its image. C. Hacon showed that the canonical degree is universally bounded by $576$. We improved Hacon's universal bound to $360$. Moreover, we gave all the possible canonical degrees of $X$ if $X$ is an abelian cover over $\mathbb{P}^3$ and constructed all the examples with these canonical degrees.

On the canonical maps of nonsingular threefolds of general type

Let $S$ be a nonsingular minimal complex projective surface of general type and the canonical map of $S$ is generically finite. Beauville showed that the geometric genus of the image of the canonical map is vanishing or equals the geometric genus of $S$ and discussed the canonical degrees for these two cases. We generalize his results to nonsingular minimal complex projective threefolds.

Application of Mythen Detector In-situ XRD Study on The Thermal Expansion Behavior of Metal Indium

A Mythen detector has been equipped at the beamline 4B9A of Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility, which can be used for in-situ real-time measurement of X-ray diffraction (XRD) full profiles. In this paper, the thermal expansion behavior of metal indium has been studied by using the in-situ XRD technique with the Mythen detector. The indium film was heated from 30 to 160 °C with a heating rate of 2 °C/min. The in-situ XRD full-profiles were collected with a rate of one profile per 10 seconds. Rietveld refinement was used to extract the structural parameters. The results demonstrate that the thermal expansion of metal indium is nonlinear especially when the sample temperature was close to its melting point (156.5 °C). The expansion of a-axis and the contraction of c-axis of the tetragonal unit cell of metallic indium can be well described by biquadratic and cubic polynomials, respectively. The tetragonal unit cell presents a tendency to become cubic one with the increase of temperature but without detectable phase change. This study is not only beneficial to the application of metal indium, but also exhibits the capacity of in-situ time-resolved XRD experiments at the X-ray diffraction station of BSRF.

Hierarchical structure and biomineralization in cricket tooth

Cricket is a truculent insect with stiff and sharp teeth as a fighting weapon. The structure and possible biomineralization of the cricket teeth are always interested. Synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction and small angle X-ray scattering techniques were used to probe the element distribution, possible crystalline structures and size distribution of scatterers in cricket teeth. Scanning electron microscope was used to observe the nanoscaled structure. The results demonstrate that Zn is the main heavy element in cricket teeth. The surface of the cricket teeth has a crystalline compound like ZnFe2(AsO4)2(OH)2(H2O)4. While, the interior of the teeth has a crystalline compound like ZnCl2, which is from the biomineralization. The ZnCl2-like biomineral forms nanoscaled microfibrils and their axial direction points at the top of tooth cusp. The microfibrils aggregate random into intermediate filaments, forming a hierarchical structure. A sketch map of the cricket tooth cusp was proposed and a detailed discussion was given in this paper.

Kohn-Rossi Cohomology and its application to the Complex Plateau Problem III

Let $X$ be a compact connected strongly pseudoconvex $CR$ manifold of real dimension 2n-1 in $\mathbb{C}^{N}$. It has been an interesting question to find an intrinsic smoothness criteria for the complex Plateau problem. For $n\ge 3$ and $N=n+1$, Yau found a necessary and sufficient condition for the interior regularity of the Harvey-Lawson solution to the complex Plateau problem by means of Kohn-Rossi cohomology groups on $X$ in 1981. For n=2 and $N\ge n+1$, the problem has been open for over 30 years. In this paper we introduce a new CR invariant $g^{(1,1)}(X)$ of $X$. The vanishing of this invariant will give the interior regularity of the Harvey-Lawson solution up to normalization. In case $n=2$ and N=3, the vanishing of this invariant is enough to give the interior regularity.
