On a comparison principle for Trudinger's equation

We study the comparison principle for non-negative solutions of the equation ∂ (∣v∣p−2v)∂t = div(∣∇v∣p−2∇v),1<p<∞. \frac{\partial\,(|v|^{p-2}v)}{\partial t}\,=\, \textrm{div} (|\nabla v|^{p-2}\nabla v), \quad 1<p<\infty. This equation is related to extremals of Poincaré inequalities in Sobolev spaces. We apply our result to obtain pointwise control of the large time behavior of solutions.

Notes on the Infinity-Laplace Equation

These notes are written up after my lectures at the University of Pittsburgh in March 2014 and at Tsinghua University in May 2014. My objective is the ∞\infty-Laplace Equation, a marvellous kin to the ordinary Laplace Equation. The ∞\infty-Laplace Equation has delightful counterparts to the Dirichlet integral, the Mean Value Theorem, the Brownian Motion, Harnack's Inequality and so on. It has applications to image processing and to mass transfer problems and provides optimal Lipschitz extensions of boundary values. My treaty of this "fully non-linear" degenerate equation is far from complete and generalizations are deliberately avoided.

A Hilbert space of Dirichlet series and systems of dilated functions in L2(0,1)L^2(0,1)

For a function φφ in L2(0,1)L^2(0,1), extended to the whole real line as an odd periodic function of period 2, we ask when the collection of dilates φ(nx)φ(nx), n=1,2,3,…n=1,2,3,\ldots, constitutes a Riesz basis or a complete sequence in L2(0,1)L^2(0,1). The problem translates into a question concerning multipliers and cyclic vectors in the Hilbert space H\cal H of Dirichlet series f(s)=∑nann−sf(s)=\sum_n a_nn^{-s}, where the coefficients ana_n are square summable. It proves useful to model H\cal H as the H2H^2 space of the infinite-dimensional polydisk, or, which is the same, the H2H^2 space of the character space, where a character is a multiplicative homomorphism from the positive integers to the unit circle. For given ff in H\cal H and characters χχ, fχ(s)=∑nanχ(n)n−sf_χ(s)=\sum_na_nχ(n)n^{-s} is a vertical limit function of ff. We study certain probabilistic properties of these vertical limit functions.
