Beyond Fixed Patches: Enhancing GPTs for Financial Prediction with Adaptive Segmentation and Learnable Wavelets

The extensive adoption of web technologies in the finance and investment sectors has led to an explosion of financial data, which contributes to the complexity of the forecasting task. Traditional machine learning models exhibit limitations in this forecasting task constrained by their restricted model capacity. Recent advances in Generative Pre-trained Transformers (GPTs), with their greatly expanded parameter spaces, demonstrate promising potential for modeling complex dependencies in temporal sequences. However, existing pretraining-based approaches typically focus on fixed-length patch analysis, ignoring market data's multi-scale pattern characteristics. In this study, we propose $\mathbf{GPT4FTS}$, a novel framework that enhances pretrained transformer capabilities for temporal sequence modeling through dynamic patch segmentation and learnable wavelet transform modules. Specifically, we first employ K-means++ clustering based on DTW distance to identify scale-invariant patterns in market data. Building upon pattern recognition results, we introduce adaptive patch segmentation that partitions temporal sequences while preserving pattern integrity. To accommodate time-varying frequency characteristics, we devise a dynamic wavelet transform module that emulates discrete wavelet transformation with enhanced flexibility in capturing time-frequency features. Extensive experiments on real-world financial datasets substantiate the framework's efficacy. The source code is available: \href{https://anonymous.4open.science/r/GPT4FTS-6BCC/}

Democratizing planetary-scale analysis: An ultra-lightweight Earth embedding database for accurate and flexible global land monitoring

The rapid evolution of satellite-borne Earth Observation (EO) systems has revolutionized terrestrial monitoring, yielding petabyte-scale archives. However, the immense computational and storage requirements for global-scale analysis often preclude widespread use, hindering planetary-scale studies. To address these barriers, we present Embedded Seamless Data (ESD), an ultra-lightweight, 30-m global Earth embedding database spanning the 25-year period from 2000 to 2024. By transforming high-dimensional, multi-sensor observations from the Landsat series (5, 7, 8, and 9) and MODIS Terra into information-dense, quantized latent vectors, ESD distills essential geophysical and semantic features into a unified latent space. Utilizing the ESDNet architecture and Finite Scalar Quantization (FSQ), the dataset achieves a transformative ~340-fold reduction in data volume compared to raw archives. This compression allows the entire global land surface for a single year to be encapsulated within approximately 2.4 TB, enabling decadal-scale global analysis on standard local workstations. Rigorous validation demonstrates high reconstructive fidelity (MAE: 0.0130; RMSE: 0.0179; CC: 0.8543). By condensing the annual phenological cycle into 12 temporal steps, the embeddings provide inherent denoising and a semantically organized space that outperforms raw reflectance in land-cover classification, achieving 79.74% accuracy (vs. 76.92% for raw fusion). With robust few-shot learning capabilities and longitudinal consistency, ESD provides a versatile foundation for democratizing planetary-scale research and advancing next-generation geospatial artificial intelligence.

Superconductivity at Pd/Bi$_2$Se$_3$ Interfaces Due to Self-Formed PdBiSe Interlayers

Understanding the physical and chemical processes at the interface of metals and topological insulators is crucial for developing the next generation of topological quantum devices. Here we report the discovery of robust superconductivity in Pd/Bi$_2$Se$_3$ bilayers fabricated by sputtering Pd on the surface of Bi$_2$Se$_3$. Through transmission electron microscopy measurements, we identify that the observed interfacial superconductivity originates from the diffusion of Pd into Bi$_2$Se$_3$. In the diffusion region, Pd chemically reacts with Bi$_2$Se$_3$ and forms a layer of PdBiSe, a known su-perconductor with a bulk transition temperature of 1.5 K. Our work provides a method for in-troducing superconductivity into Bi$_2$Se$_3$, laying the foundation for developing sophisticated Bi$_2$Se$_3$-based topological devices.

Pressure-Induced Superconductivity in Topological Heterostructure (PbSe)5(Bi2Se3)6

Recently, the natural heterostructure of (PbSe)5(Bi2Se3)6 has been theoretically predicted and experimentally confirmed as a topological insulator. In this work, we induce superconductivity in (PbSe)5(Bi2Se3)6 by implementing high pressure. As increasing pressure up to 10 GPa, superconductivity with Tc ~ 4.6 K suddenly appears, followed by an abrupt decrease. Remarkably, upon further compression above 30 GPa, a new superconducting state arises, where pressure raises the Tc to an unsaturated 6.0 K within the limit of our research. Combining XRD and Raman spectroscopies, we suggest that the emergence of two distinct superconducting states occurs concurrently with the pressure-induced structural transition in this topological heterostructure (PbSe)5(Bi2Se3)6.

A stabilizer-free $C^0$ weak Galerkin method for the biharmonic equations

In this article, we present and analyze a stabilizer-free $C^0$ weak Galerkin (SF-C0WG) method for solving the biharmonic problem. The SF-C0WG method is formulated in terms of cell unknowns which are $C^0$ continuous piecewise polynomials of degree $k+2$ with $k\geq 0$ and in terms of face unknowns which are discontinuous piecewise polynomials of degree $k+1$. The formulation of this SF-C0WG method is without the stabilized or penalty term and is as simple as the $C^1$ conforming finite element scheme of the biharmonic problem. Optimal order error estimates in a discrete $H^2$-like norm and the $H^1$ norm for $k\geq 0$ are established for the corresponding WG finite element solutions. Error estimates in the $L^2$ norm are also derived with an optimal order of convergence for $k>0$ and sub-optimal order of convergence for $k=0$. Numerical experiments are shown to confirm the theoretical results.

A weak Galerkin method and its two-grid algorithm for the quasi-linear elliptic problems of non-monotone type

In this article, a weak Galerkin method is firstly presented and analyzed for the quasi-linear elliptic problem of non-monotone type. By using Brouwer's fixed point technique, the existence of WG solution and error estimates in both the energy-like norm and the $L^2$ norm are derived. Then an efficient two-grid WG method is introduced to improve the computational efficiency. The convergence error of the two-grid WG method is analyzed in the energy-like norm. Numerical experiments are presented to verify our theoretical findings.

$L_f^p$ harmonic 1-forms on complete non-compact smooth metric measure spaces

This paper studies complete non-compact smooth metric measure space $(M^n,g,\mathrm{e}^{-f}\mathrm{d}v)$ with positive first spectrum $λ_1(Δ_f)$ or satisfying a weighted Poincaré inequality with weight function $ρ$. We establish two splitting and vanishing theorems for $L_f^p$ harmonic $1$-forms under the assumption that $m$-Bakry-Émery Ricci curvature $\mathrm{Ric}_{m,n}\geq -aλ_1(Δ_f)$ or $\mathrm{Ric}_{m,n}\geq -aρ-b$ for particular constants $a$ and $b>0$. These results are inspired by the work of Han-Lin and are $L_f^p$ generalizations of previous works by Dung-Sung and Vieira for $L^2$ harmonic $1$-forms.

Measurement of the neutron beam profile of the Back-n white neutron facility at CSNS with a Micromegas detector

The Back-n white neutron beam line, which uses back-streaming white neutrons from the spallation target of the China Spallation Neutron Source, is used for nuclear data measurements. A Micromegas-based neutron detector with two variants was specially developed to measure the beam spot distribution for this beam line. In this article, the design, fabrication, and characterization of the detector are described. The results of the detector performance tests are presented, which include the relative electron transparency, the gain and the gain uniformity, and the neutron beam profile reconstruction capability. The result of the first measurement of the Back-n neutron beam spot distribution is also presented.

Measurements of differential and angle-integrated cross sections for the $^{10}$B($n, α$)$^{7}$Li reaction in the neutron energy range from 1.0 eV to 2.5 MeV

Differential and angle-integrated cross sections for the $^{10}$B($n, α$)$^{7}$Li, $^{10}$B($n, α$$_{0}$)$^{7}$Li and $^{10}$B($n, α$$_{1}$)$^{7}$Li$^{*}$ reactions have been measured at CSNS Back-n white neutron source. Two enriched (90%) $^{10}$B samples 5.0 cm in diameter and ~85.0 $μ$g/cm$^{2}$ in thickness each with an aluminum backing were prepared, and back-to-back mounted at the sample holder. The charged particles were detected using the silicon-detector array of the Light-charged Particle Detector Array (LPDA) system. The neutron energy E$_{n}$ was determined by TOF (time-of-flight) method, and the valid $α$ events were extracted from the E$_{n}$-Amplitude two-dimensional spectrum. With 15 silicon detectors, the differential cross sections of $α$-particles were measured from 19.2° to 160.8°. Fitted with the Legendre polynomial series, the ($n, α$) cross sections were obtained through integration. The absolute cross sections were normalized using the standard cross sections of the $^{10}$B($n, α$)$^{7}$Li reaction in the 0.3 - 0.5 MeV neutron energy region. The measurement neutron energy range for the $^{10}$B($n, α$)$^{7}$Li reaction is 1.0 eV $\le$ En < 2.5 MeV (67 energy points), and for the $^{10}$B($n, α$$_{0}$)$^{7}$Li and $^{10}$B($n, α$$_{1}$)$^{7}$Li$^{*}$ reactions is 1.0 eV $\le$ En < 1.0 MeV (59 energy points). The present results have been analyzed by the resonance reaction mechanism and the level structure of the $^{11}$B compound system, and compared with existing measurements and evaluations.

Robust Intrinsic Ferromagnetism and Half Semiconductivity in Stable Two-Dimensional Single-Layer Chromium Trihalides

Two-dimensional (2D) intrinsic ferromagnetic (FM) semiconductors are crucial to develop low-dimensional spintronic devices. Using density functional theory, we show that single-layer chromium trihalides (SLCTs) (CrX$_3$,X=F, Cl, Br and I) constitute a series of stable 2D intrinsic FM semiconductors. A free-standing SLCT can be easily exfoliated from the bulk crystal, due to a low cleavage energy and a high in-plane stiffness. Electronic structure calculations using the HSE06 functional indicate that both bulk and single-layer CrX$_3$ are half semiconductors with indirect gaps and their valence bands and conduction bands are fully spin-polarized in the same spin direction. The energy gaps and absorption edges of CrBr$_3$ and CrI$_3$ are found to be in the visible frequency range, which implies possible opt-electronic applications. Furthermore, SLCTs are found to possess a large magnetic moment of 3$μ_B$ per formula unit and a sizable magnetic anisotropy energy. The magnetic exchange constants of SLCTs are then extracted using the Heisenberg spin Hamiltonian and the microscopic origins of the various exchange interactions are analyzed. A competition between a near 90$^\circ$ FM superexchange and a direct antiferromagnetic (AFM) exchange results in a FM nearest-neighbour exchange interaction. The next and third nearest-neighbour exchange interactions are found to be FM and AFM respectively and this can be understood by the angle-dependent extended Cr-X-X-Cr superexchange interaction. Moreover, the Curie temperatures of SLCTs are also predicted using Monte Carlo simulations and the values can further increase by applying a biaxial tensile strain. The unique combination of robust intrinsic ferromagnetism, half semiconductivity and large magnetic anisotropy energies renders the SLCTs as promising candidates for next-generation semiconductor spintronic applications.

Ring aggregation pattern of Human Travel Trips

Although a lot of attentions have been paid to human mobility, the relationship between travel pattern with city structure is still unclear. Here we probe into this relationship by analyzing the metro passenger trip data. There are two unprecedented findings. One, from the average view a linear law exists between the individual's travel distance with his original distance to city center. The mechanism underlying is a travel pattern we called "ring aggregation", i.e., the daily movement of city passengers is just aggregating to a ring with roughly equal distance to city center.Interestingly, for the round trips the daily travel pattern can be regarded as a switching between the home ring at outer area with the office ring at the inner area. Second, this linear law and ring aggregation pattern seems to be an exclusive characteristic of the metro system. It can not be found in short distance transportation modes, such as bicycle and taxi, neither as multiple transportation modes. This means the ring aggregation pattern is a token of the relationship between travel pattern with city structure in the large scale space.

Symplectic Cohomology and the Stability of J-Anti-Invariant Cohomology

In this paper, we investigate the relationship between J-anti-invariant cohomology of a closed symplectic 4-manifold introduced by T.-J. Li and W. Zhang and new symplectic cohomologies introduced by L.-S. Tseng and S.-T. Yau. We also prove that the dimension of J-anti-invariant cohomology is constant for almost structures J which are compatible with a fixed symplectic form.
