Anosov Flows and Dynamical Zeta Functions (Errata)

This errata fixes a mistake in the part of Giulietti, P.; Liverani, C.; Pollicott, M. Anosov flows and dynamical zeta functions. Ann. of Math. (2) {\bf 178} (2013), no. 2, 687--773, which proves a spectral gap for contact Anosov flows with respect to the measure of maximal entropy (Section 7). However, the first part of the paper, in which it is proved that the Ruelle zeta function is meromorphic, is unaffected.

Duality between Eigenfunctions and Eigendistributions of Ruelle and Koopman operators via an integral kernel

We consider the classical dynamics given by a one sided shift on the Bernoulli space of $d$ symbols. We study, on the space of Hölder functions, the eigendistributions of the Ruelle operator with a given potential. Our main theorem shows that for any isolated eigenvalue, the eigendistributions of such Ruelle operator are dual to eigenvectors of a Ruelle operator with a conjugate potential. We also show that the eigenfunctions and eigendistributions of the Koopman operator satisfy a similar relationship. To show such results we employ an integral kernel technique, where the kernel used is the involution kernel.

The calculus of thermodynamical formalism

Given a finite-to-one map acting on a compact metric space, one classically constructs for each potential in an appropriate Banach space of functionsa transfer operator acting on functions. Under suitable condition, the Ruelle-Perron-Frobenius enable to define for each potential an invariant measure called the Gibbs measure. The set of potential giving birth to the same Gibbs measure is a linear subspace containing one distinguished potential, said to be normalized. The goal of the present article is to study the geometry of the set of normalized potentials, of the normalization map, and of the Gibbs map sending potentials to Gibbs measures. We give an easy proof of the fact that the set of normalized potentials is an analytic submanifold and that the normalization map is analytic; we compute the derivative of the Gibbs map; last we endow the set of normalized potential with a natural weakRiemannian metric (derived from the asymptotic variance) with respect to which we compute the gradient flow induced by the pressure with respect to a given potential, e.g. the metric entropy functional. We also apply these ideas to recover in a wide setting existence and uniqueness of equilibrium states, possibly under constraints.

Anosov Flows and Dynamical Zeta Functions

We study the Ruelle and Selberg zeta functions for $\Cs^r$ Anosov flows, $r > 2$, on a compact smooth manifold. We prove several results, the most remarkable being: (a) for $\Cs^\infty$ flows the zeta function is meromorphic on the entire complex plane; (b) for contact flows satisfying a bunching condition (e.g. geodesic flows on manifolds of negative curvature better than $\frac 19$-pinched) the zeta function has a pole at the topological entropy and is analytic in a strip to its left; (c) under the same hypotheses as in (b) we obtain sharp results on the number of periodic orbits. Our arguments are based on the study of the spectral properties of a transfer operator acting on suitable Banach spaces of anisotropic currents.
