Is there any Nambu monopolium out there?

Magnetic monopoles have been a subject of study for more than a century since the first ideas by A. Vaschy and P. Curie, circa 1890. In 1974, Y. Nambu proposed a model for magnetic monopoles exploring a parallelism between the broken symmetry Higgs and the superconductivity Ginzburg-Landau theories in order to describe the pions quark-antiquark confinement states. There, Nambu describes an energetic string where its end points behave like two magnetic monopoles with opposite magnetic charges -- quark and antiquark. Consequently, not only the interaction among monopole and antimonopole, mediated by a massive vector boson (Yukawa potential), but also the energetic string (linear potential) contributes to the effective interaction potential. We propose here a monopole-antimonopole non confining attractive interaction of the Nambu-type, and then investigate the formation of bound states, the monopolium. Some necessary conditions for the existence of bound states to be fulfilled by the proposed Nambu-type potential, Kato weakness, Setô and Bargmann conditions, are verified. In the following, ground state energies are estimated for a variety of monopolium reduced mass, from $10^2$MeV to $10^2$TeV, and Compton interaction lengths, from $10^{-2}$am to $10^{-1}$pm, where discussion about non relativistic and relativistic limits validation is carried out.

On the absence of bound states for a planar massless Brown-Ravenhall-type operator

We address the question of the existence of bound states for a suitably projected two-dimensional massless Dirac operator in the presence of a Bessel-Macdonald potential (also known as $K_0$-potential potential), raised by De Lima, Del Cima and Miranda, in Eur.Phys.J. B (2020) 93, 187. Based on Relativistic Hardy Inequality, we prove that this operator has no bound states if $γ\leqslant γ_{\rm crit}$ (subcritical region), where $γ$ is a coupling constant.

On the stability and spectral properties of the two-dimensional Brown-Ravenhall operator with a short-range potential

The Brown-Ravenhall operator was initially proposed as an alternative to describe the fermion-fermion interaction via Coulomb potential and subject to relativity. This operator is defined in terms of the associated Dirac operator and the projection onto the positive spectral subspace of the free Dirac operator. In this paper, we propose to analyze a modified version of the Brown-Ravenhall operator in two-dimensions. More specifically, we consider the Brown-Ravenhall operator with a short-range attractive potential given by a Bessel-Macdonald function (also known as $K_0$-potential) using the Foldy-Wouthuysen unitary transformation. Initially, we prove that the two-dimensional Brown-Ravenhall operator with $K_0$-potential is bounded from below when the coupling constant is below a specified critical value (a property also referred to as stability). A major feature of this model is the fact that it does not cease to be bounded below even if the coupling constant is above the specified critical value. We also investigate the nature of the spectrum of this operator, in particular the location of the essential spectrum, and the existence of eigenvalues, which are either isolated from the essential spectrum or embedded in it.

On the two-dimensional Schrödinger operator with an attractive potential of the Bessel-Macdonald type

We analyze the Schrödinger operator in two-dimensions with an attractive potential given by a Bessel-Macdonald function. This operator is derived in the non-relativistic approximation of planar quantum electrodynamics (${\rm QED}_3$) models as a framework for evaluation of two-quasiparticle scattering potentials. The analysis is motivated keeping in mind the fact that parity-preserving ${\rm QED}_3$ models can provide a possible explanation for the behavior of superconductors. Initially, we study the self-adjointness and spectral properties of the Schrödinger operator modeling the non-relativistic approximation of these ${\rm QED}_3$ models. Then, by using {\em Setô-type estimates}, an estimate is derived of the number of two-particle bound states which depends directly on the value of the effective coupling constant, $C$, for {\em any} value of the angular momentum. In fact, this result in connection with the condition that guarantees the self-adjointness of the Schrödinger operator shows that there can always be a large number of two-quasiparticle bound states in planar quantum electrodynamics models. In particular, we show the existence of an isolated two-quasiparticle bound state if the effective coupling constant $C \in (0,2)$ in case of zero angular momentum. To the best of our knowledge, this result has not yet been addressed in the literature. Additionally, we obtain an explicit estimate for the energy gap of two-quasiparticle bound states which might be applied to high-$T_c$ $s$-wave Cooper-type superconductors as well as to $s$-wave electron-polaron--electron-polaron bound states (bipolarons) in mass-gap graphene systems.

Quantum entanglement in trimer spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains with antiferromagnetic coupling

The quantum entanglement measure is determined, for the first time, for antiferromagnetic trimer spin-1/2 Heisenberg chains. The physical quantity proposed to measure the entanglement is the distance between states by adopting the Hilbert-Schmidt norm. The method is applied to the new magnetic Cu(II) trimer system, 2b.3CuCl_2.2H_2O, and to the trinuclear Cu(II) halide salt, (3MAP)_2Cu_2Cl_8. The decoherence temperature, above which the entanglement is suppressed, is determined for the both systems. A correlation among their decoherence temperatures and their respective exchange coupling constants is established.

The parity-preserving massive QED3: vanishing beta-function and no parity anomaly

The parity-preserving massive QED3 exhibits vanishing gauge coupling beta-function and is parity and infrared anomaly free at all orders in perturbation theory. Parity is not an anomalous symmetry, even for the parity-preserving massive QED3, in spite of some claims about the possibility of a perturbative parity breakdown, called parity anomaly. The proof is done by using the algebraic renormalization method, which is independent of any regularization scheme, based on general theorems of perturbative quantum field theory.

The Jackiw-Pi model: classical theory

The massive even-parity non-Abelian gauge model in three space-time dimensions proposed by Jackiw and Pi is studied at the tree-level. The propagators are computed and the spectrum consistency is analyzed, besides, the symmetries of the model are collected and established through BRS invariance and Slavnov-Taylor identity. In the Landau gauge, thanks to the antighost equations and the Slavnov-Taylor identity, two rigid symmetries are identified by means of Ward identities. It is presented here a promising path for perturbatively quantization of the Jackiw-Pi model and a hint concerning its possible quantum scale invariance is also pointed out.

All orders renormalizability of a Lorentz and CPT violating quantum electrodynamics

Renormalizability of the (minimal) single-fermion QED extension is investigated at all orders of perturbation theory in the framework of algebraic renormalization, a regularization-independent method. Relative to the standard QED, new structures that could lead to gauge anomalies are identified. Nevertheless, even if the anomaly coefficients fail to vanish in the general case, they shall be absent provided we require invariance of the action under C and/or PT transformations. Stability is also verified in this case, hence full renormalizability is attained.

The Jackiw-Pi model and its symmetries

The non-Abelian gauge model proposed by Jackiw and Pi, which generates an even-parity mass term in three space-time dimensions, is revisited in this letter. All the symmetries of the model are collected and established by means of BRS invariance and Slavnov-Taylor identity. The path for the perturbatively quantization of the Jackiw-Pi model, through the algebraic method of renormalization, is presented.

Electron-Electron Bound States in Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Proca QED3

We start from a parity-breaking MCS QED$_{3}$ model with spontaneous breaking of the gauge symmetry as a framework for evaluation of the electron-electron interaction potential and for attainment of numerical values for the e-e bound state. Three expressions are obtained for the potential according to the polarization state of the scattered electrons. In an energy scale compatible with Condensed Matter electronic excitations, these three potentials become degenerated. The resulting potential is implemented in the Schrodinger equation and the variational method is applied to carry out the electronic binding energy. The resulting binding energies in the scale of 10-100 meV and a correlation length in the scale of 10-30 Angs. are possible indications that the MCS-QED$_{3}$ model adopted may be suitable to address an eventual case of e-e pairing in the presence of parity-symmetry breakdown. The data analyzed here suggest an energy scale of 10-100 meV to fix the breaking of the U(1)-symmetry. PACS numbers: 11.10.Kk 11.15.Ex 74.20.-z 74.72.-h ICEN-PS-01/17

Electron-electron Bound States in Parity-Preserving QED3

By considering the Higgs mechanism in the framework of a parity-preserving Planar Quantum Electrodynamics, one shows that an attractive electron-electron interaction may come out. The e-e interaction potential emerges as the non-relativistic limit of the Moller scattering amplitude and it may result attractive with a suitable choice of parameters. Numerical values of the e-e binding energy are obtained by solving the two-dimensional Schrodinger equation. The existence of bound states is to be viewed as an indicative that this model may be adopted to address the pairing mechanism in some systems endowed with parity-preservation.

Electron-electron attractive interaction in Maxwell-Chern-Simons QED3 at zero temperature

One discusses the issue of low-energy electron-electron bound states in the Maxwell-Chern-Simons model coupled to QED3 with spontaneous breaking of a local U(1)-symmetry. The scattering potential, in the non-relativistic limit, steaming from the electron-electron Moller scattering, mediated by the Maxwell-Chern-Simons-Proca gauge field and the Higgs scalar, might be attractive by fine-tuning properly the physical parameters of the model.

An algebraic proof on the finiteness of Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons theory in D=3

A rigorous algebraic proof of the full finiteness in all orders of perturbation theory is given for the Yang-Mills-Chern-Simons theory in a general three-dimensional Riemannian manifold. We show the validity of a trace identity, playing the role of a local form of the Callan-Symanzik equation, in all loop orders, which yields the vanishing of the beta-functions associated to the topological mass and gauge coupling constant as well as the anomalous dimensions of the fields.

On the finiteness of a new topological model in D=3

A new topological model is proposed in three dimensions as an extension of the BF-model. It is a three-dimensional counterpart of the two-dimensional model introduced by Chamseddine and Wyler ten years ago. The BFK-model, as we shall call it, shows to be quantum scale invariant at all orders in perturbation theory. The proof of its full finiteness is given in the framework of algebraic renormalization.

Algebraic Renormalization of Parity-Preserving QED_3 Coupled to Scalar Matter I: Unbroken Case

In this letter the algebraic renormalization method, which is independent of any kind of regularization scheme, is presented for the parity-preserving QED_3 coupled to scalar matter in the symmetric regime, where the scalar assumes vanishing vacuum expectation value, $<ϕ>=0$. The model shows to be stable under radiative corrections and anomaly free.

Algebraic Renormalization of Parity-Preserving QED_3 Coupled to Scalar Matter II: Broken Case

In this letter the algebraic renormalization method, which is independent of any kind of regularization scheme, is presented for the parity-preserving QED_3 coupled to scalar matter in the broken regime, where the scalar assumes a finite vacuum expectation value, $<\vf> = v$. The model shows to be stable under radiative corrections and anomaly free.
