The Cauchy problem for the periodic Kadomtsev--Petviashvili--II equation below $L^2$

We extend Bourgain's $L^2$-wellposedness result for the KP-II equation on $\mathbb{T}^2$ to initial data with negative Sobolev regularity. The key ingredient is a new linear $L^4$-Strichartz estimate which is effective on frequency-dependent time scales. The $L^4$-Strichartz estimates follow from combining an $\ell^2$-decoupling inequality recently proved by Guth--Maldague--Oh with semiclassical Strichartz estimates. Moreover, we rely on a variant of Bourgain's bilinear Strichartz estimate on frequency-dependent times, which is proved via the Córdoba--Fefferman square function estimate.

Quasi-invariance of Gaussian measures for the periodic Benjamin-Ono-BBM equation

The BBM equation is a Hamiltonian PDE which revealed to be a very interesting test-model to study the transformation property of Gaussian measures along the flow. In this paper we study the BBM equation with critical dispersion (which is a Benjamin-Ono type model). We prove that the image of the Gaussian measures supported on fractional Sobolev spaces of increasing regularity are absolutely continuous, but we cannot identify the density, for which new ideas are needed.

Transport of Gaussian measures with exponential cut-off for Hamiltonian PDEs

We show that introducing an exponential cut-off on a suitable Sobolev norm facilitates the proof of quasi-invariance of Gaussian measures with respect to Hamiltonian PDE flows and allows us to establish the exact Jacobi formula for the density. We exploit this idea in two different contexts, namely the periodic fractional Benjamin-Bona-Mahony (BBM) equation with dispersion~$γ>1$ and the periodic one dimensional quintic defocussing nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLS). For the BBM equation we study the transport of the cut-off Gaussian measures on fractional Sobolev spaces, while for the NLS equation we study the measures based on the modified energies introduced by Planchon-Visciglia and the third author. Moreover for the BBM equation we also show almost sure global well-posedness for data in~$C^\a(\T)$ for arbitrarily small~$\a>0$ and invariance of the Gaussian measure associated with the $H^{γ/2}(\T)$ norm.

Quasi-invariant Gaussian measures for the nonlinear wave equation in three dimensions

We prove quasi-invariance of Gaussian measures supported on Sobolev spaces under the dynamics of the three-dimensional defocusing cubic nonlinear wave equation. As in the previous work on the two-dimensional case, we employ a simultaneous renormalization on the energy functional and its time derivative. Two new ingredients in the three-dimensional case are (i) the construction of the weighted Gaussian measures, based on a variational formula for the partition function inspired by Barashkov and Gubinelli (2018), and (ii) an improved argument in controlling the growth of the truncated weighted Gaussian measures, where we combine a deterministic growth bound of solutions with stochastic estimates on random distributions.

Quasi-invariance of low regularity Gaussian measures under the gauge map of the periodic derivative NLS

The periodic DNLS gauge is an anticipative map with singular generator which revealed crucial in the study of the periodic derivative NLS. We prove quasi-invariance of the Gaussian measure on $L^2(\T)$ with covariance $[1+(-\D)^{s}]^{-1}$ under these transformations for any $s>\frac12$. This extends previous achievements by Nahmod, Ray-Bellet, Sheffield and Staffilani (2011) and Genovese, Lucà and Valeri (2018), who proved the result for integer values of the regularity parameter $s$.

Stochastic quantization of Liouville conformal field theory

We study a nonlinear stochastic heat equation forced by a space-time white noise on closed surfaces, with nonlinearity $e^{βu}$. This equation corresponds to the stochastic quantization of the Liouville quantum gravity (LQG) measure. (i) We first revisit the construction of the LQG measure in Liouville conformal field theory (LCFT) in the $L^2$ regime $0<β<\sqrt{2}$. This uniformizes in this regime the approaches of David-Kupiainen-Rhodes-Vargas (2016), David-Rhodes-Vargas (2016) and Guillarmou-Rhodes-Vargas (2019) which treated the case of a closed surface with genus 0, 1 and $> 1$ respectively. Moreover, our argument shows that this measure is independent of the approximation procedure for a large class of smooth approximations. (ii) We prove almost sure global well-posedness of the parabolic stochastic dynamics, and invariance of the measure under this stochastic flow. In particular, our results improve previous results obtained by Garban (2020) in the cases of the sphere and the torus with their canonical metric, and are new in the case of closed surfaces with higher genus.

Two dimensional nonlinear Schrödinger equation with spatial white noise potential and fourth order nonlinearity

We consider NLS on $\T^2$ with multiplicative spatial white noise and nonlinearity between cubic and quartic. We prove global existence, uniqueness and convergence almost surely of solutions to a family of properly regularized and renormalized approximating equations. In particular we extend a previous result by A. Debussche and H. Weber available in the cubic and sub-cubic setting.

Strichartz estimates for non elliptic Schrödinger equations on compact manifolds

In this note we consider the Schrödinger equation on compact manifolds equipped with possibly degenerate metrics. We prove Strichartz estimates with a loss of derivatives. The rate of loss of derivatives depends on the degeneracy of metrics. For the non-degenerate case we obtain, as an application of the main result, the same Strichartz estimates as that in the elliptic case. This extends Strichartz estimates for Riemannian metrics proved by Burq-Gérard-Tzvetkov to the non-elliptic case and improves the result by Salort. We also investigate the optimality of the result for the case on $\mathbb{S}^3\times \mathbb{S}^3$.

$L^2$-stability of solitary waves for the KdV equation via Pego and Weinstein's method

In this article, we will prove $L^2(\mathbb{R})$-stability of $1$-solitons for the KdV equation by using exponential stability property of the semigroup generated by the linearized operator. The proof follows the lines of recent stability argument of Mizumachi [Asymptotic stability of lattice solitons in the energy space, Comm. Math. Phys., (2009)] and Mizumachi, Pego and Quintero [Asymptotic stability of solitary waves in the Benney-Luke model of water waves, Differential Integral Equations, (2013)] which show stability in the energy class by using strong linear stability of solitary waves in exponentially weighted spaces. This gives an alternative proof of Merle and Vega [$L^2$ stability of solitons for KdV equation, Int. Math. Res. Not., (2003)] which shows $L^2(\mathbb{R})$-stability of $1$-solitons for the KdV equation by using the Miura transformation. Our argument is a refinement of Pego and Weinstein [Asymptotic stability of solitary waves, Comm. Math. Phys., (1994)] that proves asymptotic stability of solitary waves in exponentially weighted spaces. We slightly improve the $H^1$-stability of the modified KdV equation as well.

Modified scattering for the cubic Schrödinger equation on product spaces and applications

We consider the cubic nonlinear Schrödinger equation posed on the spatial domain $\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T}^d$. We prove modified scattering and construct modified wave operators for small initial and final data respectively ($1\leq d\leq 4)$. The key novelty comes from the fact that the modified asymptotic dynamics are dictated by the resonant system of this equation, which sustains interesting dynamics when $d\geq 2$. As a consequence, we obtain global solutions to the defocusing and focusing problems on $\mathbb{R}\times \mathbb{T}^d$ (for any $d\geq 2$) with infinitely growing high Sobolev norms $H^s$.

Remarks on the Gibbs measures for nonlinear dispersive equations

We show, by the means of several examples, how we can use Gibbs measures to construct global solutions to dispersive equations at low regularity. The construction relies on the Prokhorov compactness theorem combined with the Skorokhod convergence theorem. To begin with, we consider the non linear Schrödinger equation (NLS) on the tri-dimensional sphere. Then we focus on the Benjamin-Ono equation and on the derivative nonlinear Schrödinger equation on the circle. Next, we construct a Gibbs measure and global solutions to the so-called periodic half-wave equation. Finally, we consider the cubic 2d defocusing NLS on an arbitrary spatial domain and we construct global solutions on the support of the associated Gibbs measure.

Invariant measures and long time behaviour for the Benjamin-Ono equation

We study the Benjamin-Ono equation, posed on the torus. We prove that an infinite sequence of weighted gaussian measures, constructed in our previous work, are invariant by the flow of the equation. These measures are supported by Sobolev spaces of increasing regularities. As a by product we deduce informations on the long time behaviour of regular solutions. To our knowledge this is the first result which gives an evidence about recurrence properties of the Benjamin-Ono equation flow.

preprint2013arXiv

Invariant measures and long time behaviour for the Benjamin-Ono equation II

As a continuation of our previous work on the subject, we prove new measure invariance results for the Benjamin-Ono equation. The measures are associated with conservation laws whose leading term is a fractional Sobolev norm of order larger or equal than 5/2. The new ingredient, compared with the case of conservation laws whose leading term is an integer Sobolev norm of order larger or equal than 3 (that has been studied in our previous work), is the use of suitable orthogonality relations satisfied by multilinear products of centered complex independent gaussian variables. We also give some partial results for the measures associated with the two remaining conservation laws at lower regularity. We plan to complete the proof of their invariance in a separated article which will be the final in the series. Finally in an appendix, we give a brief comparing of the recurrence properties of the flows of Benjamin-Ono and KdV equations.

On the propagation of weakly nonlinear random dispersive waves

We study several basic dispersive models with random periodic initial data such that the different Fourier modes are independent random variables. Motivated by the vast Physics literature on related topics, we then study how much the Fourier modes of the solution at later times remain decorrelated. Our results are sensitive to the resonances associated with the dispersive relation and to the particular choice of the initial data.

The NLS ground states on product spaces

We study the nature of the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation ground states on the product spaces $\R^n\times M^k$, where $M^k$ is a compact Riemannian manifold. We prove that for small $L^2$ masses the ground states coincide with the corresponding $\R^n$ ground states. We also prove that above a critical mass the ground states have nontrivial $M^k$ dependence. Finally, we address the Cauchy problem issue which transform the variational analysis to dynamical stability results.

Probabilistic well-posedness for the cubic wave equation

The purpose of this article is to introduce for dispersive partial differential equations with random initial data, the notion of well-posedness (in the Hadamard-probabilistic sense). We restrict the study to one of the simplest examples of such equations: the periodic cubic semi-linear wave equation. Our contributions in this work are twofold: first we break the algebraic rigidity involved in previous works and allow much more general randomizations (general infinite product measures v.s. Gibbs measures), and second, we show that the flow that we are able to construct enjoys very nice dynamical properties, including a new notion of probabilistic continuity.

Stability and instability of the KdV solitary wave under the KP-I flow

We consider the KP-I and gKP-I equations in $\mathbb{R}\times (\mathbb{R}/2π\mathbb{Z})$. We prove that the KdV soliton with subcritical speed $0<c<c^*$ is orbitally stable under the global KP-I flow constructed by Ionescu and Kenig \cite{IK}. For supercritical speeds $c>c^*$, in the spirit of the work by Duyckaerts and Merle \cite{DM}, we sharpen our previous instability result and construct a global solution which is different from the solitary wave and its translates and which converges to the solitary wave as time goes to infinity. This last result also holds for the gKP-I equation.

Global well-posedness for the KP-II equation on the background of a non localized solution

Motivated by transverse stability issues, we address the time evolution under the KP-II flow of perturbations of a solution which does not decay in all directions, for instance the KdV-line soliton. We study two different types of perturbations : perturbations that are square integrable in $ \R\times \T $ and perturbations that are square integrable in $ \R^2 $. In both cases we prove the global well-posedness of the Cauchy problem associated with such initial data.

preprint2010arXiv

Long time dynamics for the one dimensional non linear Schrödinger equation

In this article, we first present the construction of Gibbs measures associated to nonlinear Schrödinger equations with harmonic potential. Then we show that the corresponding Cauchy problem is globally well-posed for rough initial conditions in a statistical set (the support of the measures). Finally, we prove that the Gibbs measures are indeed invariant by the flow of the equation. As a byproduct of our analysis, we give a global well-posedness and scattering result for the $L^2$ critical and super-critical NLS (without harmonic potential).

Strichartz estimates for partially periodic solutions to Schrödinger equations in 4d and applications

We consider the energy critical nonlinear Schrödinger equation on periodic domains of the form R^m x T^{4-m} with m=0,1,2,3. Assuming that a certain L^4 Strichartz estimate holds for solutions to the corresponding linear Schrödinger equation, we prove that the nonlinear problem is locally well-posed in the energy space. Then we verify that the L^4 estimate holds if m=2,3, leaving open the cases m=0,1.

Transverse nonlinear instability of solitary waves for some Hamiltonian PDE's

We present a general result of transverse nonlinear instability of 1-d solitary waves for Hamiltonian PDE's for both periodic or localized transverse perturbations. Our main structural assumption is that the linear part of the 1d model and the transverse perturbation "have the same sign". Our result applies to the generalized KP-I equation, the Nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the generalized Boussinesq system and the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation and we hope that it may be useful in other contexts.
