Universal potential estimates for $1<p\leq 2-\frac{1}{n}$

We extend the so-called universal potential estimates of the Kuusi-Mingione type (J.Funct. Anal. 2012) to the singular case $1<p\leq 2-1/n$ for the quasilinear equation with measure data \begin{equation*} -\operatorname{div}(A(x,\nabla u))=μ \end{equation*} in a bounded open subset $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 2$, with a finite signed measure $μ$ in $Ω$. The operator $\operatorname{div}(A(x,\nabla u))$ is modeled after the $p$-Laplacian $Δ_p u:= {\rm div}\, (|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)$, where the nonlinearity $A(x, ξ)$ ($x, ξ\in \mathbb{R}^n$) is assumed to satisfy natural growth and monotonicity conditions of order $p$, as well as certain additional regularity conditions in the $x$-variable.

Characterizations of predual spaces to a class of Sobolev multiplier type spaces

We characterize preduals and Köthe duals to a class of Sobolev multiplier type spaces. Our results fit in well with the modern theory of function spaces of harmonic analysis and are also applicable to nonlinear partial differential equations. We make use of several tools from nonlinear potential theory, weighted norm inequalities, and the theory of Banach function spaces to obtain our results.

Quasilinear Riccati type equations with oscillatory and singular data

We characterize the existence of solutions to the quasilinear Riccati type equation \begin{eqnarray*} \left\{ \begin{array}{rcl} -{\rm div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)&=& |\nabla u|^q + σ\quad \text{in} ~Ω, \\ u&=&0 \quad \text{on}~ \partial Ω, \end{array}\right. \end{eqnarray*} with a distributional or measure datum $σ$. Here ${\rm div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)$ is a quasilinear elliptic operator modeled after the $p$-Laplacian ($p>1$), and $Ω$ is a bounded domain whose boundary is sufficiently flat (in the sense of Reifenberg). For distributional data, we assume that $p>1$ and $q>p$. For measure data, we assume that they are compactly supported in $Ω$, $p>\frac{3n-2}{2n-1}$, and $q$ is in the sub-linear range $p-1<q<1$. We also assume more regularity conditions on $\mathcal{A}$ and on $\partialΩ$ in this case.

Characterizations of signed measures in the dual of $BV$ and related isometric isomorphisms

We characterize all (signed) measures in $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$, where $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is defined as the space of all functions $u$ in $L^{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $Du$ is a finite vector-valued measure. We also show that $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$ and $BV(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$ are isometrically isomorphic, where $BV(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is defined as the space of all functions $u$ in $L^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $Du$ is a finite vector-valued measure. As a consequence of our characterizations, an old issue raised in Meyers-Ziemer [MZ] is resolved by constructing a locally integrable function $f$ such that $f$ belongs to $BV(\mathbb{R}^n)^{*}$ but $|f|$ does not. Moreover, we show that the measures in $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$ coincide with the measures in $\dot W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$, the dual of the homogeneous Sobolev space $\dot W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, in the sense of isometric isomorphism. For a bounded open set $Ω$ with Lipschitz boundary, we characterize the measures in the dual space $BV_0(Ω)^*$. One of the goals of this paper is to make precise the definition of $BV_0(Ω)$, which is the space of functions of bounded variation with zero trace on the boundary of $Ω$. We show that the measures in $BV_0(Ω)^*$ coincide with the measures in $W^{1,1}_0(Ω)^*$. Finally, the class of finite measures in $BV(Ω)^*$ is also characterized.

Global Lorentz and Lorentz-Morrey estimates below the natural exponent for quasilinear equations

Lorentz and Lorentz-Morrey estimates are obtained for gradients of very weak solutions to quasilinear equations of the form $$\text{div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)=\text{div}\, |{\bf f}|^{p-2}{\bf f},$$ where $\text{div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)$ is modelled after the $p$-Laplacian, $p>1$. The estimates are global over bounded domains that satisfy a mild exterior uniform thickness condition that involves the $p$-capacity. The vector field datum ${\bf f}$ is allowed to have low degrees of integrability and thus solutions may not have finite $L^p$ energy. A higher integrability result at the boundary of the ground domain is also obtained for infinite energy solutions to the associated homogeneous equations.

The Navier-Stokes equations in nonendpoint borderline Lorentz spaces

It is shown both locally and globally that $L_t^{\infty}(L_x^{3,q})$ solutions to the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations are regular provided $q\not=\infty$. Here $L_x^{3,q}$, $0<q\leq\infty$, is an increasing scale of Lorentz spaces containing $L^3_x$. Thus the result provides an improvement of a result by Escauriaza, Seregin and {\v S}verák ((Russian) Uspekhi Mat. Nauk {\bf 58} (2003), 3--44; translation in Russian Math. Surveys {\bf 58} (2003), 211--250), which treated the case $q=3$. A new local energy bound and a new $ε$-regularity criterion are combined with the backward uniqueness theory of parabolic equations to obtain the result. A weak-strong uniqueness of Leray-Hopf weak solutions in $L_t^{\infty}(L_x^{3,q})$, $q\not=\infty$, is also obtained as a consequence.

Nonlinear Muckenhoupt-Wheeden type bounds on Reifenberg flat domains, with applications to quasilinear Riccati type equations

A weighted norm inequality of Muckenhoupt-Wheeden type is obtained for gradients of solutions to a class of quasilinear equations with measure data on Reifenberg flat domains. This essentially leads to a resolution of an existence problem for quasilinear Riccati type equations with a gradient source term of arbitrary power law growth.

Stationary Navier-Stokes Equations with Critically Singular External Forces: Existence and Stability Results

We show the unique existence of solutions to stationary Navier-Stokes equations with small singular external forces belonging to a critical space. To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest critical space that is available up to now for this kind of existence. This result can be viewed as the stationary counterpart of the existence result obtained by H. Koch and D. Tataru for the free non-stationary Navier-Stokes equations with initial data in BMO$^{-1}$. The stability of the stationary solutions in such spaces is also obtained by a series of sharp estimates for resolvents of a singularly perturbed operator and the corresponding semigroup.

Quasilinear equations with source terms on Carnot groups

In this paper we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of solutions to quasilinear equations of Lane--Emden type with measure data on a Carnot group $\mathbb G$ of arbitrary step. The quasilinear part involves operators of the $p$-Laplacian type $Δ_{\mathbb G,\,p}\,$, $1<p<\infty$. These results are based on new a priori estimates of solutions in terms of nonlinear potentials of Th. Wolff's type. As a consequence, we characterize completely removable singularities, and prove a Liouville type theorem for supersolutions of quasilinear equations with source terms which has been known only for equations involving the sub-Laplacian ($p=2$) on the Heisenberg group.

Boundary behavior p-harmonic functions in the Heisenberg group

We study the boundary behavior of nonnegative p-harmonic functions which vanish on a portion of the boundary of a domain in the Heisenberg group H^n. Our main results are: 1) An estimate from above which shows that, under suitable geometric assumptions on the relevant domain, such a p-harmonic function vanishes at most linearly with respect to the sub-Riemannian distance to the boundary. 2) An estimate from below which shows that for a (Euclidean) C^{1,1} domain, away from the characteristic set, such a p-harmonic function vanishes exactly like the distance to the boundary. By combining 1) and 2) we obtain a comparison theorem stating that, at least away from the characteristic set, any two such p-harmonic functions must vanish at the same rate.
