Global well-posedness of the 1d compressible Navier-Stokes system with rough data

In this paper, we study the global well-posedness problem for the 1d compressible Navier-Stokers system (cNSE) in gas dynamics with rough initial data. Frist, Liu- Yu (2022) established the global well-posedness theory for the 1d isentropic cNSE with initial velocity data in BV space. Then, it was extended to the 1d cNSE for the polytropic ideal gas with initial velocity and temperature data in BV space by Wang-Yu-Zhang (2022). We improve the global well-posedness result of Liu-Yu with initial velocity data in $W^{2γ,1}$ space; and of Wang-Yu-Zhang with initial velocity data in $ L^2\cap W^{2γ,1}$ space and initial data of temperature in $\dot W^{-\frac{2}{3},\frac{6}{5}}\cap \dot W^{2γ-1,1}$ for any $γ>0$ \textit{arbitrary small}. Our essential ideas are based on establishing various "end-point" smoothing estimates for the 1d parabolic equation.

On the dynamics of the roots of polynomials under differentiation

This article is devoted to the study of a nonlinear and nonlocal parabolic equation introduced by Stefan Steinerberger to study the roots of polynomials under differentiation; it also appeared in a work by Dimitri Shlyakhtenko and Terence Tao on free convolution. Rafael Granero-Belinchón obtained a global well-posedness result for positive initial data small enough in a Wiener space, and recently Alexander Kiselev and Changhui Tan proved a global well-posedness result for any positive initial data in the Sobolev space $H^s(\mathbb{S})$ with $s>3/2$. In this paper, we consider the Cauchy problem in the critical space $H^{1/2}(\mathbb{S})$. Two interesting new features, at this level of regularity, are that the equation can be written in the form $$ \partial_t u+V\partial_x u+γΛu=0, $$ where $γ$ is non-negative but not bounded from below and $V/\sqrtγ$ is not bounded. Therefore, the equation is only weakly parabolic. We prove that nevertheless the Cauchy problem is well posed locally in time and that the solutions are smooth for positive times. Combining this with the results of Kiselev and Tan, this gives a global well-posedness result for any positive initial data in $H^{1/2}(\mathbb{S})$. Our proof relies on sharp commutator estimates and introduces a strategy to prove a local well-posedness result in a situation where the lifespan depends on the profile of the initial data and not only on its norm.

Sharp estimates for screened Vlasov-Poisson system around Penrose-stable equilibria in $\mathbb{R}^d $, $ d\geq3$

In this paper, we study the asymptotic stability of Penrose-stable equilibria among solutions of the screened Vlasov-Poisson system in $\mathbb{R}^d$ with $d\geq 3$ that was first established by Bedrossian, Masmoudi, and Mouhot in \cite{JBedrossian2018} with smooth initial data. More precisely, we prove the sharp decay estimates for the density of the perturbed system, exactly like the free transport with only Hölder (i.e., $C^{a}$ for $0<a<1$) perturbed initial data. This improves the recent works in \cite{HanKwanD2021} by Han-Kwan, Nguyen, and Rousset for lower derivatives of the density and in \cite{NguyenTT2020} by T. Nguyen for higher derivatives with a logarithmic correction in time. Furthermore, we establish new estimates and cancellations of the kernel to the linearized problem to obtain this result. Moreover, we also prove this result for the Vlasov-Poisson system in which the electric field obeys a general nonlinear Poisson equation containing massless electrons/ions case.

Universal potential estimates for $1<p\leq 2-\frac{1}{n}$

We extend the so-called universal potential estimates of the Kuusi-Mingione type (J.Funct. Anal. 2012) to the singular case $1<p\leq 2-1/n$ for the quasilinear equation with measure data \begin{equation*} -\operatorname{div}(A(x,\nabla u))=μ \end{equation*} in a bounded open subset $Ω$ of $\mathbb{R}^n$, $n\geq 2$, with a finite signed measure $μ$ in $Ω$. The operator $\operatorname{div}(A(x,\nabla u))$ is modeled after the $p$-Laplacian $Δ_p u:= {\rm div}\, (|\nabla u|^{p-2}\nabla u)$, where the nonlinearity $A(x, ξ)$ ($x, ξ\in \mathbb{R}^n$) is assumed to satisfy natural growth and monotonicity conditions of order $p$, as well as certain additional regularity conditions in the $x$-variable.

Quasilinearization of the 3D Muskat equation, and applications to the critical Cauchy problem

We exhibit a new decomposition of the nonlinearity for the Muskat equation and use it to commute Fourier multipliers with the equation. This allows to study solutions with critical regularity. As a corollary, we obtain the first well-posedness result for arbitrary large data in the critical space $\dot{H}^2(\mathbb{R}^2)\cap W^{1,\infty}(\mathbb{R}^2)$. Moreover, we prove the existence of solutions for initial data which are not Lipschitz.

On the Cauchy problem for the Muskat equation with non-Lipschitz initial data

This article is devoted to the study of the Cauchy problem for the Muskat equation. We consider initial data belonging to the critical Sobolev space of functions with three-half derivative in $L^2$, up to a fractional logarithmic correction. As a corollary, we obtain the first local and global well-posedness results for initial free surface which are not Lipschitz.

Quasilinear elliptic equations with a source reaction term involving the function and its gradient and measure data

We study the equation --div(A(x, u)) = g(x, u, u) + $μ$ where $μ$ is a measure and either g(x, u, u) $\sim$ |u| q 1 u||u| q 2 or g(x, u, u) $\sim$ |u| s 1 u + ||u| s 2. We give sufficient conditions for existence of solutions expressed in terms of the Wolff potential or the Riesz potentials of the measure. Finally we connect the potential estimates on the measure with Lipchitz estimates with respect to some Bessel or Riesz capacity.

Quasilinear Riccati type equations with oscillatory and singular data

We characterize the existence of solutions to the quasilinear Riccati type equation \begin{eqnarray*} \left\{ \begin{array}{rcl} -{\rm div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)&=& |\nabla u|^q + σ\quad \text{in} ~Ω, \\ u&=&0 \quad \text{on}~ \partial Ω, \end{array}\right. \end{eqnarray*} with a distributional or measure datum $σ$. Here ${\rm div}\,\mathcal{A}(x, \nabla u)$ is a quasilinear elliptic operator modeled after the $p$-Laplacian ($p>1$), and $Ω$ is a bounded domain whose boundary is sufficiently flat (in the sense of Reifenberg). For distributional data, we assume that $p>1$ and $q>p$. For measure data, we assume that they are compactly supported in $Ω$, $p>\frac{3n-2}{2n-1}$, and $q$ is in the sub-linear range $p-1<q<1$. We also assume more regularity conditions on $\mathcal{A}$ and on $\partialΩ$ in this case.

The Weyl law of transmission eigenvalues and the completeness of generalized transmission eigenfunctions

The transmission problem is a system of two second-order elliptic equations of two unknowns equipped with the Cauchy data on the boundary. After four decades of research motivated by scattering theory, the spectral properties of this problem are now known to depend on a type of contrast between coefficients near the boundary. Previously, we established the discreteness of eigenvalues for a large class of anisotropic coefficients which is related to the celebrated complementing conditions due to Agmon, Douglis, and Nirenberg. In this work, we establish the Weyl law for the eigenvalues and the completeness of the generalized eigenfunctions for this class of coefficients under an additional mild assumption on the continuity of the coefficients. The analysis is new and based on the $L^p$ regularity theory for the transmission problem established here. It also involves a subtle application of the spectral theory for the Hilbert Schmidt operators. Our work extends largely known results in the literature which are mainly devoted to the isotropic case with $C^\infty$-coefficients.

Energy equalities for compressible Navier-Stokes equations

The energy equalities of compressible Navier-Stokes equations with general pressure law and degenerate viscosities are studied. By using a unified approach, we give sufficient conditions on the regularity of weak solutions for these equalities to hold. The method of proof is suitable for the case of periodic as well as homogeneous Dirichlet boundary conditions. In particular, by a careful analysis using the homogeneous Dirichlet boundary condition, no boundary layer assumptions are required when dealing with bounded domains with boundary.

An elliptic semilinear equation with source term and boundary measure data: the supercritical case

We give new criteria for the existence of weak solutions to an equation with a super linear source term \begin{align*}-Δu = u^q ~~\text{in}~Ω,~~u=σ~~\text{on }~\partialΩ\end{align*}where $Ω$ is a either a bounded smooth domain or $\mathbb{R}\_+^{N}$, $q\textgreater{}1$ and $σ\in \mathfrak{M}^+(\partialΩ)$ is a nonnegative Radon measure on $\partialΩ$. One of the criteria we obtain is expressed in terms of some Bessel capacities on $\partialΩ$. We also give a sufficient condition for the existence of weak solutions to equation with source mixed terms. \begin{align*} -Δu = |u|^{q\_1-1}u|\nabla u|^{q\_2} ~~\text{in}~Ω,~~u=σ~~\text{on }~\partialΩ\end{align*} where $q\_1,q\_2\geq 0, q\_1+q\_2\textgreater{}1, q\_2\textless{}2$, $σ\in \mathfrak{M}(\partialΩ)$ is a Radon measure on $\partialΩ$.

Global estimates for quasilinear parabolic equations on Reifenberg flat domains and its applications to Riccati type parabolic equations with distributional data

In this paper, we prove global weighted Lorentz and Lorentz-Morrey estimates for gradients of solutions to the quasilinear parabolic equations: $$u_t-\operatorname{div}(A(x,t,\nabla u))=\operatorname{div}(F),$$ in a bounded domain $Ω\times (0,T)\subset\mathbb{R}^{N+1}$, under minimal regularity assumptions on the boundary of domain and on nonlinearity $A$. Then results yields existence of a solution to the Riccati type parabolic equations: $$u_t-\operatorname{div}(A(x,t,\nabla u))=|\nabla u|^q+\operatorname{div}(F)+μ,$$ where $q>1$ and $μ$ is a bounded Radon measure.

Wiener criteria for existence of large solutions of nonlinear parabolic equations with absorption in a non-cylindrical domain

We obtain a necessary and a sufficient condition expressed in terms of Wiener type tests involving the parabolic $W\_{q'}^{2,1}$- capacity, where $q'=\frac{q}{q-1}$, for the existence of large solutions to equation $\prt\_tu-Δu+u^q=0$ in non-cylindrical domain, where $q\textgreater{}1$. Also, we provide a sufficient condition associated with equation $\prt\_tu-Δu+e^u-1=0$ . Besides, we apply our results to equation: $\prt\_tu-Δu+a|\nabla u|^p+bu^{q}=0$ for $a,b\textgreater{}0$, $11$.

Evolution equations of p-Laplace type with absorption or source terms and measure data

Let $Ω$ be a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, and $Q=Ω\times(0,T).$ We consider problems\textit{ }of the type % \[ \left\{ \begin{array} [c]{l}% {u_{t}}-{Δ_{p}}u\pm\mathcal{G}(u)=μ\qquad\text{in }Q,\\ {u}=0\qquad\text{on }\partialΩ\times(0,T),\\ u(0)=u_{0}\qquad\text{in }Ω, \end{array} \right. \] where ${Δ_{p}}$ is the $p$-Laplacian, $μ$ is a bounded Radon measure, $u_{0}\in L^{1}(Ω),$ and $\pm\mathcal{G}(u)$ is an absorption or a source term$.$ In the model case $\mathcal{G}(u)=\pm\left\vert u\right\vert ^{q-1}u$ $(q>p-1),$ or $\mathcal{G}$ has an exponential type. We prove the existence of renormalized solutions for any measure $μ$ in the subcritical case, and give sufficient conditions for existence in the general case, when $μ$ is good in time and satisfies suitable capacitary conditions.

Stability properties for quasilinear parabolic equations with measure data

Let $Ω$ be a bounded domain of $\mathbb{R}^{N}$, and $Q=Ω\times(0,T).$ We study problems of the model type \[ \left\{ \begin{array} [c]{l}% {u_{t}}-{Δ_{p}}u=μ\qquad\text{in }Q,\\ {u}=0\qquad\text{on }\partialΩ\times(0,T),\\ u(0)=u_{0}\qquad\text{in }Ω, \end{array} \right. \] where $p>1$, $μ\in\mathcal{M}_{b}(Q)$ and $u_{0}\in L^{1}(Ω).$ Our main result is a \textit{stability theorem }extending the results of Dal Maso, Murat, Orsina, Prignet, for the elliptic case, valid for quasilinear operators $u\longmapsto\mathcal{A}(u)=$div$(A(x,t,\nabla u))$\textit{. }
