A Renyi Quantum Null Energy Condition: Proof for Free Field Theories

The Quantum Null Energy Condition (QNEC) is a lower bound on the stress-energy tensor in quantum field theory that has been proved quite generally. It can equivalently be phrased as a positivity condition on the second null shape derivative of the relative entropy $S_{\text{rel}}(ρ||σ)$ of an arbitrary state $ρ$ with respect to the vacuum $σ$. The relative entropy has a natural one-parameter family generalization, the Sandwiched Renyi divergence $S_n(ρ||σ)$, which also measures the distinguishability of two states for arbitrary $n\in[1/2,\infty)$. A Renyi QNEC, a positivity condition on the second null shape derivative of $S_n(ρ||σ)$, was conjectured in previous work. In this work, we study the Renyi QNEC for free and superrenormalizable field theories in spacetime dimension $d>2$ using the technique of null quantization. In the above setting, we prove the Renyi QNEC in the case $n>1$ for arbitrary states. We also provide counterexamples to the Renyi QNEC for $n<1$.

Time dependence of reflected entropy in rational and holographic conformal field theories

We calculate the time dependence of the reflected entropy of two disconnected regions after a global quench in $(1+1)$-dimensional conformal field theories and in large temperature limit. For rational conformal field theories, we find that the time evolution of the reflected entropy is the same as that of the mutual information. We get the same result for holographic theories in the limit where the separation between disconnected regions is much smaller than their respective sizes. We discuss how this result is consistent with the quasi-particle picture of Calabrese and Cardy \cite{calabrese-cardy}.

Dynamics of the Area Law of Entanglement Entropy

We study the evolution of the universal area law of entanglement entropy when the Hamiltonian of the system undergoes a time dependent perturbation. In particular, we derive a general formula for the time dependent first order correction to the area law under the assumption that the field theory resides in a vacuum state when a small time-dependent perturbation of a relevant coupling constant is turned on. Using this formula, we carry out explicit calculations in free field theories deformed by a time dependent mass, whereas for a generic QFT we show that the time dependent first order correction is governed by the spectral function defining the two-point correlation function of the trace of the energy-momentum tensor. We also carry out holographic calculations based on the HRT proposal and find qualitative and, in certain cases, quantitative agreement with the field theory calculations.

Entanglement Tsunami in (1+1)-Dimensions

We study the time dependence of the entanglement entropy of disjoint intervals following a global quantum quench in (1+1)-dimensional CFTs at large-$c$ with a sparse spectrum. The result agrees with a holographic calculation but differs from the free field theory answer. In particular, a simple model of free quasiparticle propagation is not adequate for CFTs with a holographic dual. We elaborate on the entanglement tsunami proposal of Liu and Suh and show how it can be used to reproduce the holographic answer.
