Global boundedness and absorbing sets in two-dimensional chemotaxis-Navier-Stokes systems with weakly singular sensitivity and a sub-logistic source

This paper studies the following chemotaxis-fluid system in a two-dimensional bounded domain $Ω$: \begin{equation*} \begin{cases} n_t + u \cdot \nabla n &= Δn - χ\nabla \cdot \left (n \frac{\nabla c}{c^k} \right ) + r n - \frac{μn^2}{\log^η(n+e)}, c_t + u \cdot \nabla c &= Δc - αc + βn, u_t + u \cdot \nabla u &= Δu - \nabla P + n \nabla ϕ+ f, \nabla \cdot u &= 0, \end{cases} \end{equation*} where $r, μ, α, β, χ$ are positive parameters, $k, η\in (0,1)$, $ϕ\in W^{2,\infty}(Ω)$, and $f \in C^1\left(\barΩ\times [0, \infty)\right) \cap L^\infty\left(Ω\times (0, \infty)\right)$. We show that, under suitable conditions on the initial data and with no-flux/no-flux/Dirichlet boundary conditions, this system admits a globally bounded classical solution. Furthermore, the system possesses an absorbing set in the topology of $C^0(\barΩ) \times W^{1, \infty}(Ω) \times C^0(\barΩ; \mathbb{R}^2)$.

Explicit lower bound of blow-up time in a fully parabolic attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with nonlinear terms

It is known that for the parabolic-elliptic Keller-Segel type system in a smooth bounded domain in 3-dimensional space, the lower bound of a blow-up time of unbounded solution is given. This paper extends the previous works to deal with the fully parabolic Keller-Segel type system in any spatial dimension larger than 3. Firstly, we prove that any blow-up time of an energy function is also the classical blow-up time when its energy level is sufficiently large. Secondly, we give an explicit estimation for the lower bound of blow-up time for the fully parabolic attraction-repulsion chemotaxis system with nonlinear terms, under homogeneous Neumann boundary conditions, in a smooth bounded domain.

Robust Deep Neural Networks Inspired by Fuzzy Logic

Deep neural networks have achieved impressive performance and become the de-facto standard in many tasks. However, troubling phenomena such as adversarial and fooling examples suggest that the generalization they make is flawed. I argue that among the roots of the phenomena are two geometric properties of common deep learning architectures: their distributed nature and the connectedness of their decision regions. As a remedy, I propose new architectures inspired by fuzzy logic that combine several alternative design elements. Through experiments on MNIST and CIFAR-10, the new models are shown to be more local, better at rejecting noise samples, and more robust against adversarial examples. Ablation analyses reveal behaviors on adversarial examples that cannot be explained by the linearity hypothesis but are consistent with the hypothesis that logic-inspired traits create more robust models.

LocationSafe: Granular Location Privacy for IoT Devices

Today, mobile data owners lack consent and control over the release and utilization of their location data. Third party applications continuously process and access location data without data owners granular control and without knowledge of how location data is being used. The proliferation of IoT devices will lead to larger scale abuses of trust. In this paper we present the first design and implementation of a privacy module built into the GPSD daemon. The GPSD daemon is a low-level GPS interface that runs on GPS enabled devices. The integration of the privacy module ensures that data owners have granular control over the release of their GPS location. We describe the design of our privacy module and then evaluate the performance of private GPS release and demonstrate that strong privacy guarantees can be built into the GPSD daemon itself with minimal to no overhead.
