Brownian spin-locking effect

Brownian systems are characterized by spatiotemporal disorder, which arises from the erratic motion of particles driven by thermal fluctuations. When light interacts with such systems, it typically produces unpolarized and uncorrelated fields. Here, we report the observation of a large-scale spin-locking effect of light within a Brownian medium. In an observation direction perpendicular to the incident wave momentum, scattering naturally divides into two diffusion regions, each associated with an opposite spin from the Brownian nanoparticles. This effect arises from the intrinsic spin-orbit interactions of scattering from individual nanoparticles, which ubiquitously generate radiative spin fields that propagate through the Brownian medium with multiple incoherent scattering. It offers a novel experimental platform for exploring macroscale spin behaviors of diffused light, with potential applications in precision metrology for measuring various nanoparticle properties. Our findings may inspire the study of analogous phenomena for different waves from novel spin-orbit interactions in complex disordered systems.

iEmoTTS: Toward Robust Cross-Speaker Emotion Transfer and Control for Speech Synthesis based on Disentanglement between Prosody and Timbre

The capability of generating speech with specific type of emotion is desired for many applications of human-computer interaction. Cross-speaker emotion transfer is a common approach to generating emotional speech when speech with emotion labels from target speakers is not available for model training. This paper presents a novel cross-speaker emotion transfer system, named iEmoTTS. The system is composed of an emotion encoder, a prosody predictor, and a timbre encoder. The emotion encoder extracts the identity of emotion type as well as the respective emotion intensity from the mel-spectrogram of input speech. The emotion intensity is measured by the posterior probability that the input utterance carries that emotion. The prosody predictor is used to provide prosodic features for emotion transfer. The timber encoder provides timbre-related information for the system. Unlike many other studies which focus on disentangling speaker and style factors of speech, the iEmoTTS is designed to achieve cross-speaker emotion transfer via disentanglement between prosody and timbre. Prosody is considered as the main carrier of emotion-related speech characteristics and timbre accounts for the essential characteristics for speaker identification. Zero-shot emotion transfer, meaning that speech of target speakers are not seen in model training, is also realized with iEmoTTS. Extensive experiments of subjective evaluation have been carried out. The results demonstrate the effectiveness of iEmoTTS as compared with other recently proposed systems of cross-speaker emotion transfer. It is shown that iEmoTTS can produce speech with designated emotion type and controllable emotion intensity. With appropriate information bottleneck capacity, iEmoTTS is able to effectively transfer emotion information to a new speaker. Chiral domain wall dynamics in magnetic heterostructures with bulk Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions

In this work, dynamics of chiral domain walls in long and narrow magnetic heterostructures based on non-centrosymmetric chiral magnets with bulk Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions (DMI) and perpendicular magnetic anisotropy is systematically investigated. The driving forces can be out-of-plane magnetic fields and in-plane currents, correspondingly both steady and precessional flows are considered. Their dividing points (the Walker critical field and current density) are obtained as functions of bulk DMI strength ($D_{\mathrm{b}}$) and the ratio ($κ$) of total (crystalline plus shape) anisotropy in the hard axis over that in the easy one. When far beyond Walker breakdown, the dependence curve of wall velocity on external in-plane bias field takes parabolic shape around the compensation point where the total in-plane field disappears. The center shift is determined by $D_{\mathrm{b}}$, $κ$, and the wall's topological charge, thus can be used to measure the bulk DMI strength in chiral magnets.

Explainable Deep Behavioral Sequence Clustering for Transaction Fraud Detection

In e-commerce industry, user behavior sequence data has been widely used in many business units such as search and merchandising to improve their products. However, it is rarely used in financial services not only due to its 3V characteristics - i.e. Volume, Velocity and Variety - but also due to its unstructured nature. In this paper, we propose a Financial Service scenario Deep learning based Behavior data representation method for Clustering (FinDeepBehaviorCluster) to detect fraudulent transactions. To utilize the behavior sequence data, we treat click stream data as event sequence, use time attention based Bi-LSTM to learn the sequence embedding in an unsupervised fashion, and combine them with intuitive features generated by risk experts to form a hybrid feature representation. We also propose a GPU powered HDBSCAN (pHDBSCAN) algorithm, which is an engineering optimization for the original HDBSCAN algorithm based on FAISS project, so that clustering can be carried out on hundreds of millions of transactions within a few minutes. The computation efficiency of the algorithm has increased 500 times compared with the original implementation, which makes flash fraud pattern detection feasible. Our experimental results show that the proposed FinDeepBehaviorCluster framework is able to catch missed fraudulent transactions with considerable business values. In addition, rule extraction method is applied to extract patterns from risky clusters using intuitive features, so that narrative descriptions can be attached to the risky clusters for case investigation, and unknown risk patterns can be mined for real-time fraud detection. In summary, FinDeepBehaviorCluster as a complementary risk management strategy to the existing real-time fraud detection engine, can further increase our fraud detection and proactive risk defense capabilities.

Study on possible molecular states composed of $Λ_c\bar D$ ($Λ_b B$) and $Σ_c\bar D$ ($Σ_b B$) within the Bethe-Salpeter framework

$P_c(4312)$ observed by the LHCb collaboration is confirmed as a pentaquark and its structure, production, and decay behaviors attract great attention from theorists and experimentalists. Since its mass is very close to sum of $Σ_c$ and $\bar D$ masses, it is naturally tempted to be considered as a molecular state composed of $Σ_c$ and $\bar D$. Moreover, $P_c(4312)$ is observed in the channel with $J/ψp$ final state, requiring that isospin conservation $P_c(4312)$ is an isospin-1/2 eigenstate. In literature, several groups used various models to estimate its spectrum. We systematically study the pentaquarks within the framework of the Bethe-Salpeter equation; thus $P_c(4312)$ is an excellent target because of the available data. We calculate the spectrum of $P_c(4312)$ in terms of the Bethe-Salpter equations and further study its decay modes. Some predictions on other possible pentaquark states that can be tested in future experiments are made.

Survey of 360$^{\circ}$ domain walls in magnetic heterostructures: topology, chirality and current-driven dynamics

Chirality and current-driven dynamics of topologically nontrivial 360$^{\circ}$ domain walls (360DWs) in magnetic heterostructures (MHs) are systematically investigated. For MHs with normal substrates, the static 360DWs are Néel-type with no chirality. While for those with heavy-metal substrates, the interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction (iDMI) therein makes 360DWs prefer specific chirality. Under in-plane driving charge currents, as the direct result of "full-circle" topology a certain 360DW does not undergo the "Walker breakdown"-type process like a well-studied 180$^{\circ}$ domain wall as the current density increases. Alternatively, it keeps a fixed propagating mode (either steady-flow or precessional-flow, depending on the effective damping constant of the MH) until it collapses or changes to other types of solition when the current density becomes too high. Similarly, the field-like spin-orbit torque (SOT) has no effects on the dynamics of 360DWs, while the anti-damping SOT has. For both modes, modifications to the mobility of 360DWs by iDMI and anti-damping SOT are provided.

Symmetry breaking induced magnon-magnon coupling in synthetic antiferromagnets

We propose a general theory of microwave absorption spectroscopy for symmetry-breaking synthetic antiferromagnets (SAFs). Generally, inhomogeneity or different thickness of the two ferromagnetic sublayers of a SAF results in the intrinsic symmetry breaking, while out-of-plane components of dc magnetic fields lead to the extrinsic one. The broken symmetry of SAFs excludes the original symmetry-protected crossing between pure in-phase and out-of-phase resonance modes with opposite parity. Alternatively, new frequency branches become hybridization of original bare modes in terms of symmetry-breaking-induced magnon-magnon coupling, which results in an indirect gap in ferromagnetic resonance frequencies. Also, the dependence of gap width on the degree of symmetry breaking for several typical cases are presented and compared with existing experiments. Our theory provides a simple but physical understanding on the rich structure of ferromagnetic resonance spectra for asymmetric SAFs.

Taking the pulse of COVID-19: A spatiotemporal perspective

The sudden outbreak of the Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) swept across the world in early 2020, triggering the lockdowns of several billion people across many countries, including China, Spain, India, the U.K., Italy, France, Germany, and most states of the U.S. The transmission of the virus accelerated rapidly with the most confirmed cases in the U.S., and New York City became an epicenter of the pandemic by the end of March. In response to this national and global emergency, the NSF Spatiotemporal Innovation Center brought together a taskforce of international researchers and assembled implemented strategies to rapidly respond to this crisis, for supporting research, saving lives, and protecting the health of global citizens. This perspective paper presents our collective view on the global health emergency and our effort in collecting, analyzing, and sharing relevant data on global policy and government responses, geospatial indicators of the outbreak and evolving forecasts; in developing research capabilities and mitigation measures with global scientists, promoting collaborative research on outbreak dynamics, and reflecting on the dynamic responses from human societies.

Determination of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions

Using in-plane field dependence of the precessional flow of chiral domain walls (DWs) to simultaneously determine bulk and interfacial Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interactions (DMIs) is proposed. It is found that effective fields of bulk and interfacial DMIs have respectively transverse and longitudinal components that affect differently the motion of chiral DWs in magnetic narrow heterostructure strips. The in-plane field dependence of DW velocity has a dome-shape or a canyon-shape, depending on whether the driving force is an in-plane current or an out-of-plane magnetic field. The responses of their center shifts to the reversal of topological wall charge and current/field direction uniquely determine the nature and strength of DMI therein. Operable procedures are proposed and applied to explain existing experimental data.

Analysis of a non-autonomous mutualism model driven by Levy jumps

This article is concerned with a mutualism ecological model with Levy noise. The local existence and uniqueness of a positive solution are obtained with positive initial value, and the asymptotic behavior to the problem is studied. Moreover, we show that the solution is stochastically bounded and stochastic permanence. The sufficient conditions for the system to be extinct are given and the condition for the system to be persistent are also established.

Analysis of a mutualism model with stochastic perturbations

This article is concerned with a mutualism ecological model with stochastic perturbations. the local existence and uniqueness of a positive solution are obtained with positive initial value, and the asymptotic behavior to the problem is studied. Moreover, we show that the solution is stochastically bounded, uniformly continuous and stochastic permanence. The sufficient conditions for the system to be extinct are given and the condition for the system to be persistent are also established. At last, some figures are presented to illustrate our main results.

Multimodal Plasmonics in Fused Colloidal Networks

Harnessing the optical properties of noble metals down to the nanometer-scale is a key step towards fast and low-dissipative information processing. At the 10-nm length scale, metal crystallinity and patterning as well as probing of surface plasmon (SP) properties must be controlled with a challenging high level of precision. Here, we demonstrate that ultimate lateral confinement and delocalization of SP modes are simultaneously achieved in extended self-assembled networks comprising linear chains of partially fused gold nanoparticles. The spectral and spatial distributions of the SP modes associated with the colloidal superstructures are evidenced by performing monochromated electron energy loss spectroscopy with a nanometer-sized electron probe. We prepare the metallic bead strings by electron beam-induced interparticle fusion of nanoparticle networks. The fused superstructures retain the native morphology and crystallinity but develop very low energy SP modes that are capable of supporting long range and spectrally tunable propagation in nanoscale waveguides.

The spreading fronts in a mutualistic model with delay

This article is concerned with a system of semilinear parabolic equations with two free boundaries describing the spreading fronts of the invasive species in a mutualistic ecological model. The local existence and uniqueness of a classical solution are obtained and the asymptotic behavior of the free boundary problem is studied. Our results indicate that two free boundaries tend monotonically to finite or infinite at the same time, and the free boundary problem admits a global slow solution with unbounded free boundaries if the inter-specific competitions are strong, while if the inter-specific competitions are weak, there exist the blowup solution and global fast solution.
