Maximally entangled proton and charged hadron multiplicity in Deep Inelastic Scattering

We study the proposal by Kharzeev-Levin to determine entanglement entropy in Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) from parton distribution functions (PDFs) and to relate the former to the entropy of final state hadrons. We find several uncertainties in the current comparison to data, in particular the overall normalization, the relation between charged versus total hadron multiplicity in the comparison to experimental results as well as different methods to determine the number of partons in Deep Inelastic Scattering. We further provide a comparison to data based on leading order HERA PDF as well as PDFs obtained from an unintegrated gluon distribution subject to next-to-leading order Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov and Balitsky-Kovchegov evolution. Within uncertainties we find good agreement with H1 data. We provide also predictions for entropy at lower photon virtualities, where non-linear QCD dynamics is expected to become relevant.

White Paper on Forward Physics, BFKL, Saturation Physics and Diffraction

The goal of this whitepaper is to give a comprehensive overview of the rich field of forward physics. We discuss the occurrences of BFKL resummation effects in special final states, such as Mueller-Navelet jets, jet gap jets, and heavy quarkonium production. It further addresses TMD factorization at low x and the manifestation of a semi-hard saturation scale in (generalized) TMD PDFs. More theoretical aspects of low x physics, probes of the quark gluon plasma, as well as the possibility to use photon-hadron collisions at the LHC to constrain hadronic structure at low x, and the resulting complementarity between LHC and the EIC are also presented. We also briefly discuss diffraction at colliders as well as the possibility to explore further the electroweak theory in central exclusive events using the LHC as a photon-photon collider.

Forward Higgs production within high energy factorization in the heavy quark limit at next-to-leading order accuracy

We use Lipatov's high energy effective action to determine the next-to-leading order corrections to Higgs production in the forward region within high energy factorization making use of the infinite top mass limit. Our result is based on an explicit calculation of real corrections combined with virtual corrections determined earlier by Nefedov. As a new element we provide a proper definition of the desired next-to-leading order coefficient within the high energy effective action framework, extending a previously proposed prescription. We further propose a subtraction mechanism to achieve for this coefficient a stable cancellation of real and virtual infra-red singularities in the presence of external off-shell legs. Apart from its relevance for direct phenomenological studies, such as high energy resummation of Higgs + jet configurations, our result will be further of use for the study of transverse momentum dependent factorization in the high energy limit.

An effective field theory approach for electroweak interactions in the high energy limit

We present an effective action for the electroweak sector of the Standard Model valid for the calculation of scattering amplitudes in the high energy (Regge) limit. Gauge invariant Wilson lines are introduced to describe reggeized degrees of freedom whose interactions are generated by effective emission vertices. From this approach previous results at leading logarithmic accuracy for electroweak boson Regge trajectories are reproduced together with the corresponding interaction kernels. The proposed framework lays the path for calculations at higher orders in perturbation theory.

New opportunities at the photon energy frontier

Ultra-peripheral collisions (UPCs) involving heavy ions and protons are the energy frontier for photon-mediated interactions. UPC photons can be used for many purposes, including probing low-$x$ gluons via photoproduction of dijets and vector mesons, probes of beyond-standard-model processes, such as those enabled by light-by-light scattering, and studies of two-photon production of the Higgs.

Single bottom quark production in kT-factorisation

We present a study within the kT-factorisation scheme on single bottom quark production at the LHC. In particular, we calculate the rapidity and transverse momentum differential distributions for single bottom quark/anti-quark production. In our setup, the unintegrated gluon density is obtained from the NLx BFKL Green function whereas we included mass effects to the Lx heavy quark jet vertex. We compare our results to the corresponding distributions predicted by the usual collinear factorisation scheme. The latter were produced with Pythia 8.1.

Transverse-momentum-dependent quark splitting functions in $k_T$-factorization: real contributions

We calculate transverse momentum dependent quark splitting kernels $P_{gq}$ and $P_{qq}$ within $k_T$-factorization, completing earlier results which concentrated on gluon splitting functions $P_{gg}$ and $P_{qg}$. The complete set of splitting kernels is an essential requirement for the formulation of a complete set of evolution equations for transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions and the development of corresponding parton shower algorithms.

NLO Vertex for a Forward Jet plus a Rapidity Gap at High Energies

We present the calculation of the forward jet vertex associated to a rapidity gap (coupling of a hard pomeron to the jet) in the BFKL formalism at next-to-leading order (NLO). Real emission contributions are computed via Lipatov's effective action. The NLO jet vertex turns out to be finite within collinear factorization and allows, together with the NLO non-forward gluon Green's function, to perform NLO studies of jet production in diffractive events (e.g. Mueller-Tang dijets).

The Gluon-Induced Mueller-Tang Jet Impact Factor at Next-to-Leading Order

We complete the computation of the Mueller-Tang jet impact factor at next-to-leading order (NLO) initiated in arXiv:1406.5625 and presented in arXiv:1404.2937 by computing the real corrections associated to gluons in the initial state making use of Lipatov's effective action. NLO corrections for this effective vertex are an important ingredient for a reliable description of large rapidity gap phenomenology within the BFKL approach.

Description of F2 and FL at small x using a collinearly-improved BFKL resummation

We present a detailed description of the Q^2 and x dependence of the structure functions F2 and FL as extracted from the Deep Inelastic Scattering data at HERA in the small Bjorken x region. Making use of a collinearly-improved BFKL equation at next-to-leading order and a treatment of the running of the coupling using non-Abelian physical renormalization together with the BLM scale choice allows us to reach low values of Q^2. We also provide some predictions for future lepton-hadron colliders.

On the Practical Application of Physical Anomalous Dimensions

We revive the idea of using physical anomalous dimensions in the QCD scale evolution of deep-inelastic structure functions and their scaling violations and present a detailed phenomenological study of its applicability. Differences with results obtained in the conventional framework of scale-dependent quark and gluon densities are discussed and traced back to the truncation of the perturbative series at a given order in the strong coupling.

NLO corrections to the gluon induced forward jet vertex from the high energy effective action

We determine both real and virtual next-to-leading order corrections to the gluon induced forward jet vertex, from the high energy effective action proposed by Lipatov. For these calculations we employ the same regularization and subtraction formalism developed in our previous work on the quark-initiated vertex. We find agreement with previous results in the literature.

The hard to soft Pomeron transition in small x DIS data using optimal renormalization

We show that it is possible to describe the effective Pomeron intercept, determined from the HERA Deep Inelastic Scattering data at small values of Bjorken x, using next-to-leading order BFKL evolution together with collinear improvements. To obtain a good description over the whole range of Q^2 we use a non-Abelian physical renormalization scheme with BLM optimal scale, combined with a parametrization of the running coupling in the infrared region.

Two-Loop Gluon Regge Trajectory from Lipatov's Effective Action

Lipatov's high-energy effective action is a useful tool for computations in the Regge limit beyond leading order. Recently, a regularisation/subtraction prescription has been proposed that allows to apply this formalism to calculate next-to-leading order corrections in a consistent way. We illustrate this procedure with the computation of the gluon Regge trajectory at two loops.

Pole prescription of higher order induced vertices in Lipatov's QCD effective action

We investigate Lipatov's QCD effective action for the QCD high energy limit and propose a pole prescription for higher order induced vertices. The latter can be used in the evaluation of loop corrections to high energy factorized matrix elements within the effective action approach. The proposed prescription respects the symmetry properties of the unregulated vertices. Explicit results are presented up to third order in the gauge coupling, while an iterative procedure for higher orders is proposed.

High Energy Behavior of a Six-Point R-Current Correlator in N=4 Supersymmetric Yang-Mills Theory

We study the high energy limit of a six-point R-current correlator in N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory for finite N_c. We make use of the framework of perturbative resummation of large logarithms of the energy. More specifically, we apply the (extended) generalized leading logarithmic approximation. We find that the same conformally invariant two-to-four gluon vertex occurs as in non-supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. As a new feature we find a direct coupling of the four-gluon t-channel state to the R-current impact factor.

Extension of the Color Glass Condensate Approach to Diffractive Reactions

We present an evolution equation for the Bjorken x dependence of diffractive dissociation on hadrons and nuclei at high energies. We extend the formulation of Kovchegov and Levin by relaxing the factorization assumption used there. The formulation is based on a technique used by Weigert to describe interjet energy flow. The method can be naturally extended to other exclusive observables.
