Maximally entangled proton and charged hadron multiplicity in Deep Inelastic Scattering

We study the proposal by Kharzeev-Levin to determine entanglement entropy in Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) from parton distribution functions (PDFs) and to relate the former to the entropy of final state hadrons. We find several uncertainties in the current comparison to data, in particular the overall normalization, the relation between charged versus total hadron multiplicity in the comparison to experimental results as well as different methods to determine the number of partons in Deep Inelastic Scattering. We further provide a comparison to data based on leading order HERA PDF as well as PDFs obtained from an unintegrated gluon distribution subject to next-to-leading order Balitsky-Fadin-Kuraev-Lipatov and Balitsky-Kovchegov evolution. Within uncertainties we find good agreement with H1 data. We provide also predictions for entropy at lower photon virtualities, where non-linear QCD dynamics is expected to become relevant.

White Paper on Forward Physics, BFKL, Saturation Physics and Diffraction

The goal of this whitepaper is to give a comprehensive overview of the rich field of forward physics. We discuss the occurrences of BFKL resummation effects in special final states, such as Mueller-Navelet jets, jet gap jets, and heavy quarkonium production. It further addresses TMD factorization at low x and the manifestation of a semi-hard saturation scale in (generalized) TMD PDFs. More theoretical aspects of low x physics, probes of the quark gluon plasma, as well as the possibility to use photon-hadron collisions at the LHC to constrain hadronic structure at low x, and the resulting complementarity between LHC and the EIC are also presented. We also briefly discuss diffraction at colliders as well as the possibility to explore further the electroweak theory in central exclusive events using the LHC as a photon-photon collider.

All-plus helicity off-shell gauge invariant multigluon amplitudes at one loop

We calculate one loop scattering amplitudes for arbitrary number of positive helicity on-shell gluons and one off-shell gluon treated within the quasi-multi Regge kinematics. The result is fully gauge invariant and possesses the correct on-shell limit. Our method is based on embedding the off-shell process, together with contributions needed to retain gauge invariance, in a bigger fully on-shell process with auxiliary quark or gluon line.

Forward Higgs production within high energy factorization in the heavy quark limit at next-to-leading order accuracy

We use Lipatov's high energy effective action to determine the next-to-leading order corrections to Higgs production in the forward region within high energy factorization making use of the infinite top mass limit. Our result is based on an explicit calculation of real corrections combined with virtual corrections determined earlier by Nefedov. As a new element we provide a proper definition of the desired next-to-leading order coefficient within the high energy effective action framework, extending a previously proposed prescription. We further propose a subtraction mechanism to achieve for this coefficient a stable cancellation of real and virtual infra-red singularities in the presence of external off-shell legs. Apart from its relevance for direct phenomenological studies, such as high energy resummation of Higgs + jet configurations, our result will be further of use for the study of transverse momentum dependent factorization in the high energy limit.

In-medium transverse momentum broadening effects on di-jet observables

Heavy ion collisions at high energies can be used as an interesting way to recreate and study the medium of the quark-gluon plasma (QGP). We particularly investigate the jets produced in hard binary collisions and their interactions with a tentative medium. These jets were obtained numerically from the Monte-Carlo simulations of hard collisions using the KATIE-algorithm [1], where parton momenta within the colliding nucleons were describe by means of unintegrated parton distribution functions (uPDF). We evolved these jets within a medium that contains both, transverse kicks (yielding a broadening in momentum transvers to the jet-axis) as well as medium induced radiation within the MINCAS-algorithm [2] following the works of [3,4]. We produce qualitative results for the decorrelation of dijets. In particular, we study deviations from a transverse momentum broadening that follows a Gaussian distribution. Novel tools and observables for jet physics in heavy-ion collisions

Studies of fully-reconstructed jets in heavy-ion collisions aim at extracting thermodynamical and transport properties of hot and dense QCD matter. Recently, a plethora of new jet substructure observables have been theoretically and experimentally developed that provide novel precise insights on the modifications of the parton radiation pattern induced by a QCD medium. This report, summarizing the main lines of discussion at the 5th Heavy Ion Jet Workshop and CERN TH institute "Novel tools and observables for jet physics in heavy-ion collisions" in 2017, presents a first attempt at outlining a strategy for isolating and identifying the relevant physical processes that are responsible for the observed medium-induced jet modifications. These studies combine theory insights, based on the Lund parton splitting map, with sophisticated jet reconstruction techniques, including grooming and background subtraction algorithms.

TMD gluon distributions for multiparton processes

We derive gauge invariant operators entering definitions of the Transverse Momentum Dependent (TMD) gluon distributions, for all five and six parton processes. Our calculations utilize color decomposition of amplitudes in the color flow basis. In addition, we find the general result for multi-gluon process (with arbitrary number of gluons) at large $N_{c}$. On phenomenological ground our results may be used for multi-jet production in the small-$x$ regime, where the TMD gluon distributions can be derived from the Color Glass Condensate effective theory.

Four-jet production in single- and double-parton scattering within high-energy factorization

We perform a first study of 4-jet production in a complete high-energy factorization (HEF) framework. We include and discuss contributions from both single-parton scattering (SPS) and double-parton scattering (DPS). The calculations are performed for kinematical situations relevant for two experimental measurements (ATLAS and CMS) at the LHC. We compare our results to those reported by the ATLAS and CMS collaborations for different sets of kinematical cuts. The results of the HEF approach are compared with their counterparts for collinear factorization. For symmetric cuts the DPS HEF result is considerably smaller than the one obtained with collinear factorization. The mechanism leading to this difference is of kinematical nature. We conclude that an analysis of inclusive 4-jet production with asymmetric $p_T$-cuts below 50 GeV would be useful to enhance the DPS contribution relative to the SPS contribution. In contrast to the collinear approach, the HEF approach nicely describes the distribution of the $ΔS$ variable, which involves all four jets and their angular correlations.

Search for optimal conditions for exploring double-parton scattering in four-jet production: $k_t$-factorization approach

In the present paper we discuss how to maximize the double-parton scattering (DPS) contribution in four-jet production by selecting kinematical cuts. Here both single-parton and double-parton scattering effects are calculated in the $k_T$-factorization approach, following our recent developments of relevant methods and tools. Several differential distributions are shown and discussed in the context of future searches for DPS effects, such as rapidity of jets, rapidity distance, and azimuthal correlations between jets. The dependences of the relative DPS amount is studied as function of those observables. The regions with an enhanced DPS contribution are identified. Future experimental explorations could extract more precise values of $σ_{eff}$ and its potential dependence on kinematical variables.

Single and double inclusive forward jet production at the LHC at $\sqrt{s}$ = 7 and 13 TeV

We provide a description of the transverse momentum spectrum of single inclusive forward jets produced at the LHC, at the center-of-mass energies of 7 and 13 TeV, using the high energy factorization (HEF) framework. We subsequently study double inclusive forward jet production and, in particular, we calculate contributions to azimuthal angle distributions coming from double parton scattering. We also compare our results for double inclusive jet production to those obtained with the Pythia Monte Carlo generator. This comparison confirms that the HEF resummation acts like an initial state parton shower. It also points towards the need to include final state radiation effects in the HEF formalism.

Hard scale dependent gluon density, saturation and forward-forward dijet production at the LHC

We propose a method to introduce Sudakov effects to the unintegrated gluon density promoting it to be hard scale dependent. The advantage of the approach is that it guarantees that the gluon density is positive definite and that the Sudakov effects cancel on integrated level. As a case study we apply the method to calculate angular correlations and $R_{pA}$ ratio for p+p vs. p+Pb collision in the production of forward-forward dijets.

Kinematical constraint effects in the evolution equations based on angular ordering

We study effects of imposing various forms of the kinematical constraints on the full form of the CCFM equation and its non-linear extension. We find that imposing the constraint in its complete form modifies significantly way the shape of gluon density as compared to forms of the constraint used in the numerical calculations and phenomenological applications. In particular the resulting gluon density is suppressed for large values of hard scale related parameter and kT of gluon. This result might be important in description studies of jet correlations at Large Hadron Collider within CCFM approach.

Transverse-momentum-dependent quark splitting functions in $k_T$-factorization: real contributions

We calculate transverse momentum dependent quark splitting kernels $P_{gq}$ and $P_{qq}$ within $k_T$-factorization, completing earlier results which concentrated on gluon splitting functions $P_{gg}$ and $P_{qg}$. The complete set of splitting kernels is an essential requirement for the formulation of a complete set of evolution equations for transverse momentum dependent parton distribution functions and the development of corresponding parton shower algorithms.

Non-linear evolution of unintegrated gluon density at large values of coupling constant

We propose an evolution equation for unintegrated gluon densities that is valid for large values of the QCD coupling constant $\barα _s$. Our approach is based on the linear resummation model introduced by Staśto. We generalize the model including a non-linear term in the diffusive regime. The validity of the diffusive evolution at strong coupling is supported by the AdS/CFT consideration, as well as perturbative arguments. We solve the evolution equation numerically and extract the saturation scale, which we compare with the weak coupling counterpart.

Three jet production and gluon saturation effects in p-p and p-Pb collisions within high-energy factorization

We analyze three jet production in the central-forward and forward rapidity regions in proton-proton and proton-lead collisions at LHC energies. Our calculation relies on high-energy factorization with a single off-shell gluon obeying small x evolution equation which includes saturation. The calculations are made using two independent Monte Carlo codes implementing tree-level gauge invariant off-shell matrix elements. We calculate differential cross sections for azimuthal decorrelations and unbalanced jet transverse momenta and discuss them in the context of differences in the evolution of the unintegrated gluon densities.

Gluon saturation scale from the KGBJS equation

The CCFM equation and its extended form with a quadratic term (KGBJS equation) are solved with fixed and running coupling constant. The solution of the KGBJS equation is compared to gluon densities resulting from the CCFM and BK equations. As the saturation scale $Q_s$ now becomes available as a function of the hard scale $p$ we observe that low values of $p$ impede its growth with $\frac 1 x$. Also, at values much larger than partons transversal momentum the saturation effects become independent on the hard scale what we call liberation of saturation scale. We also introduce the hard-scale-related saturation scale $P_s$ and investigate its energy dependence. We observe that the new scale as a function of $x$ decreases starting from the value of transversal momentum of gluon.

Markov Chain Mote Carlo solution of BK equation through Newton-Kantorovich method

We propose a new method for Monte Carlo solution of non-linear integral equations by combining the Newton-Kantorovich method for solving non-linear equations with the Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method for solving linear equations. The Newton-Kantorovich method allows to express the non-linear equation as a system of the linear equations which then can be treated by the MCMC (random walk) algorithm. We apply this method to the Balitsky-Kovchegov (BK) equation describing evolution of gluon density at low x. Results of numerical computations show that the MCMC method is both precise and efficient. The presented algorithm may be particularly suited for solving more complicated and higher-dimensional non-linear integral equation, for which traditional methods become unfeasible.

Numerical solution of the integral form of the resummed Balitsky-Kovchegov equation

The Balitsky--Kovchegov (BK) evolution equation in its resummed integral form as obtained in JHEP 1202 (2012) 117 and arXiv:1206.1223 is considered. We solve it numerically and compare to the unresummed BK equation formulated as an integral equation and to the solution obtained by the BKsolver package. Sensitivity of the solution to an introduced resolution parameter and initial conditions is investigated.

Gluon saturation in dijet production in p-Pb collisions at Large Hadron Collider

We study saturation effects in the production of dijets in p-p and p-Pb collisions using the framework of high energy factorization. We focus on central-forward jet configurations, which allow for probing gluon density at low longitudinal momentum fraction. We find significant suppression of the central-forward jet decorrelations in p-Pb compared to p-p, which we attribute to saturation of gluon density in nuclei.

Multi-gluon helicity amplitudes with one off-shell leg within high energy factorization

Basing on the Slavnov-Taylor identities, we derive a new prescription to obtain gauge invariant tree-level scattering amplitudes for the process g*g->Ng within high energy factorization. Using the helicity method, we check the formalism up to several final state gluons, and we present analytical formulas for the the helicity amplitudes for N=2. We also compare the method with Lipatov's effective action approach.

Nonlinear equation for coherent gluon emission

Motivated by the regime of QCD explored nowadays at LHC, where both the total energy of collision and momenta transfers are high, we investigate evolution equations of high energy factorization. In order to study such effects like parton saturation in final states one is inevitably led to investigate how to combine physics of the BK and CCFM evolution equations. In this paper we obtain a new exclusive form of the BK equation which suggests a possible form of the nonlinear extension of the CCFM equation.

Resummation in nonlinear equation for high energy factorizable gluon density and its extension to include coherence

Motivated by forthcoming p-Pb experiments at Large Hadron Collider which require both knowledge of gluon densities accounting for saturation and for processes at a wide range of $p_t$ we study basic momentum space evolution equations of high energy QCD factorization. Solutions of those equations might be used to form a set of gluon densities to calculate observables in generalized high energy factorization. Moreover in order to provide a framework for predictions for exclusive final states in p-Pb scattering with high $p_t$ we rewrite the equation for the high energy factorizable gluon density in a resummed form, similarly to what has been done in \cite{Kutak:2011fu} for the BK equation. The resummed equation is then extended to account for colour coherence. This introduces an external scale to the evolution of the gluon density, and therefore makes it applicable in studies of final states.

Gluon saturation and entropy production in proton proton collisions

We study properties of high energy factorisable gluon densities focusing on saturation effects. In particular we show that the property of saturation of unintegrated gluon density allows for introduction of thermodynamical entropy associated with production of gluons. This is due to the observation that saturation scale acts like a mass of a gluon which related with temperature via thermodynamical relations allows for calculations of entropy. We also show that obtained entropy behaves like multiplicity of produced gluons.

A method for tuning parameters of Monte Carlo generators and a its application to the determination of the unintegrated gluon density

A method for tuning parameters in Monte Carlo generators is described and applied to a specific case. The method works in the following way: each observable is generated several times using different values of the parameters to be tuned. The output is then approximated by some analytic form to describe the dependence of the observables on the parameters. This approximation is used to find the values of the parameter that give the best description of the experimental data. This results in significantly faster fitting compared to an approach in which the generator is called iteratively. As an application, we employ this method to fit the parameters of the unintegrated gluon density used in the CASCADE Monte Carlo generator, using inclusive deep inelastic data measured by the H1 Collaboration. We discuss the results of the fit, its limitations, and its strong points.
