Closed geodesics on reversible Finsler 2-spheres

We extend two celebrated theorems on closed geodesics of Riemannian 2-spheres to the larger class of reversible Finsler 2-spheres: Lusternik-Schnirelmann's theorem asserting the existence of three simple closed geodesics, and Bangert-Franks-Hingston's theorem asserting the existence of infinitely many closed geodesics. In order to prove the first theorem, we employ the generalization of Grayson's curve shortening flow developed by Angenent-Oaks.

On the spectral characterization of Besse and Zoll Reeb flows

A closed contact manifold is called Besse when all its Reeb orbits are closed, and Zoll when they have the same minimal period. In this paper, we provide a characterization of Besse contact forms for convex contact spheres and Riemannian unit tangent bundles in terms of $S^1$-equivariant spectral invariants. Furthermore, for restricted contact type hypersurfaces of symplectic Euclidean spaces, we give a sufficient condition for the Besse property via the Ekeland-Hofer capacities.

Waist theorems for Tonelli systems in higher dimensions

We study the periodic orbits problem on energy levels of Tonelli Lagrangian systems over configuration spaces of arbitrary dimension. We show that, when the fundamental group is finite and the Lagrangian has no stationary orbit at the Mañé critical energy level, there is a waist on every energy level just above the Mañé critical value. With a suitable perturbation with a potential, we show that there are infinitely many periodic orbits on every energy level just above the Mañé critical value, and on almost every energy level just below. Finally, we prove the Tonelli analogue of a closed geodesics result due to Ballmann-Thorbergsson-Ziller.

The Morse index of Chaperon's generating families

This is an expository paper devoted to the Morse index of Chaperon's generating families of Hamiltonian diffeomorphisms. After reviewing the construction of such generating families, we present Bott's iteration theory in this setting: we study how the Morse index of a critical point corresponding to an iterated periodic orbit depends on the order of iteration of the orbit. We also investigate the precise dependence of the Morse index from the choice of the generating family associated to a given Hamiltonian diffeomorphism, which will allow to see the Morse index as a Maslov index for the linearized Hamiltonian flow in the symplectic group. We will conclude the survey with a proof that the classical Morse index from Tonelli Lagrangian dynamics coincides with the Maslov index.

Isometry-invariant geodesics and the fundamental group

We prove that on closed Riemannian manifolds with infinite abelian, but not cyclic, fundamental group, any isometry that is homotopic to the identity possesses infinitely many invariant geodesics. We conjecture that the result remains true if the fundamental group is infinite cyclic. We also formulate a generalization of the isometry-invariant geodesics problem, and a generalization of the celebrated Weinstein conjecture: on a closed contact manifold with a selected contact form, any strict contactomorphism that is contact-isotopic to the identity possesses an invariant Reeb orbit.

The Lagrangian Conley Conjecture

We prove a Lagrangian analogue of the Conley conjecture: given a 1-periodic Tonelli Lagrangian with global flow on a closed configuration space, the associated Euler-Lagrange system has infinitely many periodic solutions. More precisely, we show that there exist infinitely many contractible integer periodic solutions with a priori bounded mean action and either infinitely many of them are 1-periodic or they have unbounded period.
