Converting qubit relaxation into erasures with a single fluxonium

Qubits that experience predominantly erasure errors offer distinct advantages for fault-tolerant operation. Indeed, dual-rail encoded erasure qubits in superconducting cavities and transmons have demonstrated high-fidelity operations by converting physical-qubit relaxation into logical-qubit erasures, but this comes at the cost of increased hardware overhead and circuit complexity. Here, we address these limitations by realizing erasure conversion in a single fluxonium operated at zero flux, where the logical state is encoded in its 0-2 subspace. A single, carefully engineered resonator provides both mid-circuit erasure detection and end-of-line (EOL) logical measurement. Post-selection on non-erasure outcomes results in more than four-fold increase of the logical lifetime, from $193~μ$s to $869~μ$s. Finally, we characterize measurement-induced logical dephasing as a function of measurement power and frequency, and infer that each erasure check contributes a negligible error of $7.2\times 10^{-5}$. These results establish integer-fluxonium as a promising, resource-efficient platform for erasure-based error mitigation, without requiring additional hardware.

Training with Harnesses: On-Policy Harness Self-Distillation for Complex Reasoning

Inference-time harnesses substantially improve large language models on complex reasoning tasks. However, the intrinsic capabilities of the underlying model remain unchanged by the addition of these external workflows. To bridge this gap, we introduce \emph{On-Policy Harness Self-Distillation} (OPHSD), which employs the harness-augmented current model as a teacher for self-distillation, thereby introducing extra supervisory signals from the harness beyond training data. OPHSD internalizes task-specific harness capabilities into the student model, yielding robust generalizability and strong standalone performance across diverse reasoning tasks. Evaluated across draft--verify harness for text classification and plan--solve for mathematical reasoning tasks, OPHSD consistently outperforms strong baselines (e.g., +10.83\% over OPSD on HMMT25). Our analysis further indicates that reattaching the harness during inference yields no additional benefits and can even degrade performance, suggesting that complex harnesses need not always be permanent fixtures; instead, they can serve as temporary training scaffolds whose benefits are permanently fed back into the base model. Our code and training data are available at https://github.com/zzy1127/OPHSD-On-Policy-Harness-Self-Distillation.

A Lite Microphone Array Beamforming Scheme with Maximum Signal-to-Noise Ratio Filter

Since space-domain information can be utilized, microphone array beamforming is often used to enhance the quality of the speech by suppressing directional disturbance. However, with the increasing number of microphone, the complexity would be increased. In this paper, a concise beamforming scheme using Maximum Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) filter is proposed to reduce the beamforming complexity. The maximum SNR filter is implemented by using the estimated direction-of-arrival (DOA) of the speech source localization (SSL) and the solving method of independent vector analysis (IVA). Our experiments show that when compared with other widely-used algorithms, the proposed algorithm obtain higher gain of signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR).

Acoustic Echo Cancellation by Combining Adaptive Digital Filter and Recurrent Neural Network

Acoustic Echo Cancellation (AEC) plays a key role in voice interaction. Due to the explicit mathematical principle and intelligent nature to accommodate conditions, adaptive filters with different types of implementations are always used for AEC, giving considerable performance. However, there would be some kinds of residual echo in the results, including linear residue introduced by mismatching between estimation and the reality and non-linear residue mostly caused by non-linear components on the audio devices. The linear residue can be reduced with elaborate structure and methods, leaving the non-linear residue intractable for suppression. Though, some non-linear processing methods have already be raised, they are complicated and inefficient for suppression, and would bring damage to the speech audio. In this paper, a fusion scheme by combining adaptive filter and neural network is proposed for AEC. The echo could be reduced in a large scale by adaptive filtering, resulting in little residual echo. Though it is much smaller than speech audio, it could also be perceived by human ear and would make communication annoy. The neural network is elaborately designed and trained for suppressing such residual echo. Experiments compared with prevailing methods are conducted, validating the effectiveness and superiority of the proposed combination scheme.

Competitive Wakeup Scheme for Distributed Devices

Wakeup is the primary function in voice interaction which is the mainstream scheme in man-machine interaction (HMI) applications for smart home. All devices will response if the same wake-up word is used for all devices. This will bring chaos and reduce user quality of experience (QoE). The only way to solve this problem is to make all the devices in the same wireless local area network (WLAN) competing to wake-up based on the same scoring rule. The one closest to the user would be selected for response. To this end, a competitive wakeup scheme is proposed in this paper with elaborately designed calibration method for receiving energy of microphones. Moreover, the user orientation is assisted to determine the optimal device. Experiments reveal the feasibility and validity of this scheme.

Physical Properties of H II Regions in M51 from Spectroscopic Observations

M51 and NGC 5195 is an interacting system that can be explored in great details with ground-based telescopes. The H II regions in M51 were observed using the 2.16 m telescope of the National Astronomical Observatories of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the 6.5 m Multiple Mirror Telescope with spatial resolution of less than $\sim100$ pc. We obtain a total of 113 spectra across the galaxy and combine the literature data of Croxall et al. to derive a series of physical properties, including the gas-phase extinction, stellar population age, star formation rate (SFR) surface density, and oxygen abundance. The spatial distributions and radial profiles of these properties are investigated in order to study the characteristics of M51 and the clues to the formation and evolution of this galaxy. M51 presents a mild radial extinction gradient. The lower gas-phase extinction in the north spiral arms compared to the south arms are possibly caused by the past encounters with the companion galaxy of NGC 5195. A number of H II regions have the stellar age between 50 and 500 Myr, consistent with the recent interaction history by simulations in the literatures. The SFR surface density presents a mild radial gradient, which is ubiquitous in spiral galaxies. There is a negative metallicity gradient of $-0.08$ dex $R_{e}^{-1}$ in the disk region, which is also commonly found in many spiral galaxies. It is supported by the "inside-out" scenario of galaxy formation. We find a positive abundance gradient of 0.26 dex $R_{e}^{-1}$ in the inner region. There are possible reasons causing the positive gradient, including the freezing of the chemical enrichment due to the star-forming quenching in the bulge and the gas infall and dilution due to the pseudobulge growth and/or galactic interaction.

Site testing campaign for the Large Optical/infrared Telescope of China: Overview

The Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT) is a ground-based 12m diameter optical/infrared telescope which is proposed to be built in the western part of China in the next decade. Based on satellite remote sensing data, along with geographical, logistical and political considerations, three candidate sites were chosen for ground-based astronomical performance monitoring. These sites include: Ali in Tibet, Daocheng in Sichuan, and Muztagh Ata in Xinjiang. Up until now, all three sites have continuously collected data for two years. In this paper, we will introduce this site testing campaign, and present its monitoring results obtained during the period between March 2017 and March 2019.

Site-testing at Muztagh-ata site I: Ground Meteorology and Sky Brightness

Site-testing is crucial for achieving the goal of scientific research and analysis of meteorological and optical observing conditions is one of the basic tasks of it. As one of three potential sites to host 12-meter Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT), Muztagh-ata site which is located on the Pamirs Plateau in west China's Xinjiang began its site-testing task in the spring of 2017. In this paper, we firstly start with an introduction to the site and then present a statistical analysis of the ground-level meteorological properties such as air temperature, barometric pressure, relative humidity, wind speed and direction, recorded by automatic weather station with standard meteorological sensors for two-year long. We also show the monitoring results of sky brightness during this period.

Site-testing at Muztagh-ata site II: Seeing statistics

In this article, we present a detailed analysis of the statistical properties of seeing for the Muztagh-ata site which is the candidate site for hosting future Chinese Large Optical/infrared Telescope (LOT) project. The measurement was obtained with Differential Image Motion Monitor (DIMM) from April 2017 to November 2018 at different heights during different periods. The median seeing at 11 meters and 6 meters are very close but different significantly from that on the ground. We mainly analyzed the seeing at 11 meters monthly and hourly, having found that the best season for observing was from late autumn to early winter and seeing tended to improve during the night only in autumn. The analysis of the dependence on temperature inversion, wind speed, direction also was made and the best meteorological conditions for seeing is given.

Spatially-resolved Stellar Population Properties of the M 51-NGC 5195 System from Multi-wavelength Photometric Data

Using multi-band photometric images of M 51 and its companion NGC 5195 from ultraviolet to optical and infrared, we investigate spatially resolved stellar population properties of this interacting system with stellar population synthesis models. The observed IRX is used to constrain dust extinction. Stellar mass is also inferred from the model fitting. By fitting observed spectral energy distributions (SEDs) with synthetical ones, we derive two-dimensional distributions of stellar age, metallicity, dust extinction, and stellar mass. In M 51, two grand-designed spiral arms extending from the bulge show young age, rich metallicity, and abundant dust. The inter-arm regions are filled with older, metal-poorer, and less dusty stellar populations. Except for the spiral arm extending from M 51 into NGC 5195, the stellar population properties of NGC 5195 are quite featureless. NGC 5195 is much older than M 51, and its core is very dusty with $A_V$ up to 1.67 mag and dense in stellar mass surface density. The close encounters might drive the dust in the spiral arm of M51 into the center of NGC 5195.

The Wide-field Photometric System of the Nanshan One-meter Telescope

The Nanshan One-meter Wide-field Telescope (NOWT) is a prime focus system located at Nanshan Station of Xinjiang Astronomical Observatories (XAO). The field of view(FOV) was designed to 1.5 degree *1.5 degree, and Johnson-Cousins UBVRI system was chosen as the main Filter set. The telescope has been providing observation services for astronomers since Sept. 2013. Variable source searching and time-domain surveys are the main scientific goals. The system's test results are reported including linearity, dark current, bias, readout noise and gain of the CCD camera. The accurate instrumental calibration coefficients in UBVRI bands was driven with Landolt standard stars during photometric nights. Finally, the limiting magnitudes are given with signal-to-noise ratios and various exposure times for observers.

Voice Activity Detection Scheme by Combining DNN Model with GMM Model

Due to the superior modeling ability of deep neural network (DNN), it is widely used in voice activity detection (VAD). However, the performance may degrade if no sufficient data especially for practical data could be used for training, thus, leading to inferior ability of adaption to environment. Moreover, large model structure could not always be used in practical, especially for low cost devices where restricted hardware is used. This is on the contrary for Gaussian mixture model (GMM) where model parameters can be updated in real-time, but, with low modeling ability. In this paper, deeply integrated scheme combining these two models are proposed to improve adaptability and modeling ability. This is done by directly combining the results of models and feeding it back, together with the result of the DNN model, to update the GMM model. Besides, a control scheme is elaborately designed to detect the endpoints of speech. The superior performance by employing this scheme is validated through experiments in practical, which give an insight into the advantage of combining supervised learning and unsupervised learning.

Layer-Transferred MoS2/GaN PN Diodes

Electrical and optical characterization of two-dimensional/three-dimensional (2D/3D) p-molybdenum disulfide/n-gallium nitride (p-MoS2/n-GaN) heterojunction diodes are reported. Devices were fabricated on high-quality, large-area p-MoS2 grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) on hexagonal sapphire substrates. The processed devices were transferred onto GaN/sapphire substrates, and the transferred films were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and atomic force microscopy (AFM). On-axis XRD spectra and surface topology obtained from AFM scans were consistent with previously grown high-quality, continuous MoS2 films. Current-voltage measurements of these diodes exhibited excellent rectification, and capacitance-voltage measurements were used to extract a conduction band offset of approximately 0.2 eV for the transferred MoS2/GaN heterojunction. This conduction band offset was confirmed by internal photoemission (IPE) measurements. The energy band lineup of the MoS2/GaN heterojunction is proposed here. This work demonstrates the potential of 2D/3D heterojunctions for novel device applications.

Epitaxial Growth of Large Area Single-Crystalline Few-Layer MoS2 with Room Temperature Mobility of 192 cm2V-1s-1

We report on the vapor-solid growth of single crystalline few-layer MoS2 films on (0001)-oriented sapphire with excellent structural and electrical properties over centimeter length scale. High-resolution X-ray diffraction scans indicated that the films had good out-of-plane ordering and epitaxial registry. A carrier density of ~2 x 1011 cm-2 and a room temperature mobility of 192 cm2/Vs were extracted from space-charge limited transport regime in the films. The electron mobility was found to exhibit in-plane anisotropy with a ratio of ~ 1.8. Theoretical estimates of the temperature-dependent electron mobility including optical phonon, acoustic deformation potential and remote ionized impurity scattering were found to satisfactorily match the measured data. The synthesis approach reported here demonstrates the feasibility of device quality few-layer MoS2 films with excellent uniformity and high quality.

Growth and Electrical Characterization of 2D Layered MoS2/SiC Heterojunctions

The growth and electrical characterization of a heterojunction formed between 2D layered p-MoS2 and nitrogen-doped 4H-SiC is reported. Direct growth of p-type MoS2 films on SiC was demonstrated using chemical vapor deposition, and the MoS2 films were found to be crystalline based on x-ray diffraction measurements. The resulting heterojunction was found to display rectification and current-voltage characteristics consistent with a p-n junction diode. Capacitance voltage measurements were used to determine the built-in voltage for the p-MoS2/n-SiC heterojunction p-n diode. The demonstration of heterogeneous material integration between 2D layered semiconductors and 3D SiC enables a new class of heterostructures.

Simultaneous Localization, Mapping, and Manipulation for Unsupervised Object Discovery

We present an unsupervised framework for simultaneous appearance-based object discovery, detection, tracking and reconstruction using RGBD cameras and a robot manipulator. The system performs dense 3D simultaneous localization and mapping concurrently with unsupervised object discovery. Putative objects that are spatially and visually coherent are manipulated by the robot to gain additional motion-cues. The robot uses appearance alone, followed by structure and motion cues, to jointly discover, verify, learn and improve models of objects. Induced motion segmentation reinforces learned models which are represented implicitly as 2D and 3D level sets to capture both shape and appearance. We compare three different approaches for appearance-based object discovery and find that a novel form of spatio-temporal super-pixels gives the highest quality candidate object models in terms of precision and recall. Live experiments with a Baxter robot demonstrate a holistic pipeline capable of automatic discovery, verification, detection, tracking and reconstruction of unknown objects.

Large Area Single Crystal (0001) Oriented MoS2 Thin Films

Layered metal dichalcogenide materials are a family of semiconductors with a wide range of energy band gaps and properties, and potential to open up new areas of physics and technology applications. However, obtaining high crystal quality thin films over a large area remains a challenge. Here we show that chemical vapor deposition (CVD) can be used to achieve large area electronic grade single crystal Molybdenum Disulfide (MoS2) thin films with the highest mobility reported in CVD grown films so far. Growth temperature and choice of substrate were found to critically impact the quality of film grown, and high temperature growth on (0001) orientated sapphire yielded highly oriented single crystal MoS2 films for the first time. Films grown under optimal conditions were found to be of high structural quality from high-resolution X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, and Raman measurements, approaching the quality of reference geological MoS2. Photoluminescence and electrical measurements confirmed the growth of optically active MoS2 with a low background carrier concentration, and high mobility. The CVD method reported here for the growth of high quality MoS2 thin films paves the way towards growth of a variety of layered 2D chalcogenide semiconductors and their heterostructures.

Low frequency noise in chemical vapor deposited MoS2

Inherent low frequency noise is a ubiquitous phenomenon, which limits operation and performance of electronic devices and circuits. This limiting factor is very important for nanoscale electronic devices, such as 2D semiconductor devices. In this work, low frequency noise in high mobility single crystal MoS2 grown by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is investigated. The measured low frequency noise follows an empirical formulation of mobility fluctuations with Hooge' s parameter ranging between 1.44E-3 and 3.51E-2. Small variation of Hooge's parameter suggests superior material uniformity and processing control of CVD grown MoS2 devices than reported single-layer MoS2 FET. The extracted Hooge's parameter is one order of magnitude lower than CVD grown graphene. The Hooge's parameter shows an inverse relationship with the field mobility.
