Modularity of Nahm Sums for the Tadpole Diagram

We prove Rogers-Ramanujan type identities for the Nahm sums associated with the tadpole Cartan matrix of rank $3$. These identities reveal the modularity of these sums, and thereby we confirm a conjecture of Penn, Calinescu and the first author in this case. We show that these Nahm sums together with some shifted sums can be combined into a vector-valued modular function on the full modular group. We also present some conjectures for a general rank.

New Proofs of Some Double Sum Rogers-Ramanujan Type Identities

Recently, Rosengren utilized an integral method to prove a number of conjectural identities found by Kanade and Russell. Using this integral method, we give new proofs to some double sum identities of Rogers-Ramanujan type. These identities were earlier proved by approaches such as combinatorial arguments or by using $q$-difference equations. Our proofs are based on streamlined calculations, which relate these double sum identities to some known Rogers-Ramanujan type identities with single sums. Moreover, we prove a conjectural identity of Andrews and Uncu which was earlier confirmed by Chern.

A Family of Supercongruences Involving Multiple Harmonic Sums

In recent years, the congruence $$ \sum_{\substack{i+j+k=p\\ i,j,k>0}} \frac1{ijk} \equiv -2 B_{p-3} \pmod{p}, $$ first discovered by the last author have been generalized by either increasing the number of indices and considering the corresponding supercongruences, or by considering the alternating version of multiple harmonic sums. In this paper, we prove a family of similar supercongruences modulo prime powers $p^r$ with the indexes summing up to $mp^r$ where $m$ is coprime to $p$, where all the indexes are also coprime to $p$.

Arithmetic Properties of Odd Ranks and $k$-Marked Odd Durfee Symbols

Let $N^{0}(m,n)$ be the number of odd Durfee symbols of $n$ with odd rank $m$, and $N^{0}(a,M;n)$ be the number of odd Durfee symbols of $n$ with odd rank congruent to $a$ modulo $M$. We give explicit formulas for the generating functions of $N^{0}(a,M;n)$ and their $\ell$-dissections where $0\le a \le M-1$ and $M, \ell \in \{2, 4, 8\}$. From these formulas, we obtain some interesting arithmetic properties of $N^{0}(a,M;n)$. Furthermore, let $\mathcal{D}_{k}^{0}(n)$ denote the number of $k$-marked odd Durfee symbols of $n$. Andrews (2007) conjectured that $\mathcal{D}_{2}^{0}(n)$ is even if $n\equiv 4$ or 6 (mod 8) and $\mathcal{D}_{3}^{0}(n)$ is even if $n\equiv 1, 9, 11$ or 13 (mod 16). Using our results on odd ranks, we prove Andrews' conjectures.

Modular units and cuspidal divisor classes on $X_0(n^2M)$ with $n|24$ and $M$ squarefree

For a positive integer $N$, let $\mathscr C(N)$ be the subgroup of $J_0(N)$ generated by the equivalence classes of cuspidal divisors of degree $0$ and $\mathscr C(N)(\mathbb Q):=\mathscr C(N)\cap J_0(N)(\mathbb Q)$ be its $\mathbb Q$-rational subgroup. Let also $\mathscr C_{\mathbb Q}(N)$ be the subgroup of $\mathscr C(N)(\mathbb Q)$ generated by $\mathbb Q$-rational cuspidal divisors. We prove that when $N=n^2M$ for some integer $n$ dividing $24$ and some squarefree integer $M$, the two groups $\mathscr C(N)(\mathbb Q)$ and $\mathscr C_{\mathbb Q}(N)$ are equal. To achieve this, we show that all modular units on $X_0(N)$ on such $N$ are products of functions of the form $η(mτ+k/h)$, $mh^2|N$ and $k\in\mathbb Z$ and determine the necessary and sufficient conditions for products of such functions to be modular units on $X_0(N)$.

Moments of ranks and cranks, and Quotients of Eisenstein Series and the Dedekind Eta Function

Atkin and Garvan introduced the functions $N_k(n)$ and $M_k(n)$, which denote the $k$-th moments of ranks and cranks in the theory of partitions. Let $e_{2r}(n)$ be the $n$-th Fourier coefficient of $E_{2r}(τ)/η(τ)$, where $E_{2r}(τ)$ is the classical Eisenstein series of weight $2r$ and $η(τ)$ is the Dedekind eta function. Via the theory of quasi-modular forms, we find that for $k \leq 5$, $N_k(n)$ and $M_k(n)$ can be expressed using $e_{2r}(n)$ ($2\leq r \leq k$), $p(n)$ and $N_2(n)$. For $k>5$, additional functions are required for such expressions. For $r\in \{2, 3, 4, 5, 7\}$, by studying the action of Hecke operators on $E_{2r}(τ)/η(τ)$, we provide explicit congruences modulo arbitrary powers of primes for $e_{2r}(n)$. Moreover, for $\ell \in \{5, 7, 11, 13\}$ and any $k\geq 1$, we present uniform methods for finding nice representations for $\sum_{n=0}^\infty e_{2r}\left(\frac{\ell^{k}n+1}{24}\right)q^n$, which work for every $r\geq 2$. These representations allow us to prove congruences modulo powers of $\ell$, and we have done so for $e_4(n)$ and $e_6(n)$ as examples. Based on the congruences satisfied by $e_{2r}(n)$, we establish congruences modulo arbitrary powers of $\ell$ for the moments and symmetrized moments of ranks and cranks as well as higher order $\mathrm{spt}$-functions.

The smallest parts function associated with $ω(q)$

We establish two families of congruences modulo powers of 5 for the Fourier coefficients of $(2E_2(2τ)-E_2(τ))η(2τ)^{-1}$, where $E_2(τ)$ is the weight 2 Eisenstein series and $η(τ)$ is the Dedekind eta function. This allows us to prove similar congruences for two smallest parts functions. The first function is $\mathrm{spt}_ω(n)$, which was introduced by Andrews, Dixit and Yee and associated with Ramanujan/Watson's third order mock theta function $ω(q)$. The second one is $\mathrm{spt}_{C5}(n)$, which appeared in the work of Garvan and Jennings-Shaffer. Moreover, we confirm two conjectural congruences of Wang.

New Congruences on Multiple Harmonic Sums and Bernoulli Numbers

Let ${\mathcal{P}_{n}}$ denote the set of positive integers which are prime to $n$. Let $B_{n}$ be the $n$-th Bernoulli number. For any prime $p \ge 11$ and integer $r\ge 2$, we prove that $$ \sum\limits_{\begin{smallmatrix} {{l}_{1}}+{{l}_{2}}+\cdots +{{l}_{6}}={{p}^{r}} {{l}_{1}},\cdots ,{{l}_{6}}\in {\mathcal{P}_{p}} \end{smallmatrix}}{\frac{1}{{{l}_{1}}{{l}_{2}}{{l}_{3}}{{l}_{4}}{{l}_{5}}{l}_{6}}}\equiv - \frac{5!}{18}p^{r-1}B_{p-3}^{2} \pmod{{{p}^{r}}}. $$ This extends a family of curious congruences. We also obtain other interesting congruences involving multiple harmonic sums and Bernoulli numbers.

Arithmetic Identities and Congruences for Partition Triples with 3-cores

Let ${{B}_{3}}(n)$ denote the number of partition triples of $n$ where each partition is 3-core. With the help of generating function manipulations, we find several infinite families of arithmetic identities and congruences for ${{B}_{3}}(n)$. Moreover, let $ω(n)$ denote the number of representations of a nonnegative integer $n$ in the form $x_{1}^{2}+x_{2}^{2}+x_{3}^{2}+3y_{1}^{2}+3y_{2}^{2}+3y_{3}^{2}$ with ${{x}_{1}},{{x}_{2}},{{x}_{3}},{{y}_{1}},{{y}_{2}},{{y}_{3}}\in \mathbb{Z}.$ We find three arithmetic relations between ${{B}_{3}}(n)$ and $ω(n)$, such as $ω(6n+5)=4{{B}_{3}}(6n+4).$

Arithmetic Properties of Overpartition Triples

Let ${\overline{p}_{3}}(n)$ be the number of overpartition triples of $n$. By elementary series manipulations, we establish some congruences for ${\overline{p}}_{3}(n)$ modulo small powers of 2, such as \[{\overline{p}_{3}}(16n+14)\equiv 0 \pmod{32}, \quad {\overline{p}_{3}}(8n+7)\equiv 0 \pmod{64}.\] We also find many arithmetic properties for ${\overline{p}_{3}}(n)$ modulo 7, 9 and 11, involving the following infinite families of Ramanujan-type congruences: for any integers $α\ge 1$ and $n \ge 0$, we have ${\overline{p}_{3}}\big({{3}^{2α+1}}(3n+2)\big)\equiv 0$ (mod $9\cdot 2^4$), $\overline{p}_{3}(4^{α-1}(56n+49)) \equiv 0$ (mod 7) and \[{\overline{p}_{3}}\big({{7}^{2α+1}}(7n+3)\big)\equiv {\overline{p}_{3}}\big({{7}^{2α+1}}(7n+5)\big)\equiv {\overline{p}_{3}}\big({{7}^{2α+1}}(7n+6)\big)\equiv 0 \pmod{7}.\]

Explicit Formulas for Partition Pairs and Triples with 3-Cores

Let $A_{3}(n)$ (resp. ${{B}_{3}}(n)$) denote the number of partition pairs (resp. triples) of $n$ where each partition is 3-core. By applying Ramanujan's ${}_{1}ψ_{1}$ formula and Bailey's ${}_{6}ψ_{6}$ formula, we find the explicit formulas for $A_{3}(n)$ and $B_{3}(n)$. Using these formulas, we confirm a conjecture of Xia and establish many arithmetic identities satisfied by $A_{3}(n)$ and $B_{3}(n)$.

Proof of a Conjecture on 6-colored Generalized Frobenius Partitions

Let $cϕ_{k}(n)$ be the $k$-colored generalized Frobenius partition function. By employing the generating function of $cϕ_{6}(3n+1)$ found by Hirschhorn, we prove that $cϕ_{6}(27n+16)\equiv 0$ (mod 243). This confirms a conjecture of E.X.W. Xia. We also find a congruence relation $cϕ_{6}(81n+61) \equiv 3 cϕ_{6}(9n+7)$ (mod 243). Moreover, we show that $cϕ_{6}(81n+61) \equiv 0$ (mod 81), $cϕ_{6}(243n+142) \equiv 0$ (mod 243) and $cϕ_{6}(729n+ 547) \equiv 0$ (mod 243). We further conjecture that for $n\ge 0$, $cϕ_{6}(243n+142) \equiv 0$ (mod 729).

A short Proof of a conjecture by Hirschhorn and Sellers on Overpartitions

By letting $α=0$ we proved a conjecture of Hirschhorn and Sellers. Some new congruences for $\overline{p}(n)$ modulo 3 and 5 have also been found, including the following two infinite families of Ramanujan-type congruences: for any integers $n\ge 0$ and $α\ge 1$, \[\overline{p}({{5}^{2α+1}}(5n+1))\equiv \overline{p}({{5}^{2α+1}}(5n+4))\equiv 0 \, (\bmod \, 5).\]

Perfect Numbers and Fibonacci Primes (II)

In this paper, we study the diophantine equation ${{σ}_{2}}(n)-{{n}^{2}}=An+B$. We prove that except for finitely many computable solutions, all the solutions to this equation with $(A,B)=({{L}_{2m}},F_{2m}^{2}-1)$ are $n={{F}_{2k+1}}{{F}_{2k+2m+1}}$, where both ${{F}_{2k+1}}$ and ${{F}_{2k+2m+1}}$ are Fibonacci primes. Meanwhile, we show that the twin primes conjecture holds if and only if the equation ${{σ}_{2}}(n)-{{n}^{2}}=2n+5$ has infinitely many solutions.

On a question of Babadi and Tarokh II

In this paper we continue to study a question proposed by Babadi and Tarokh \cite{ba2} on the mysterious randomness of Gold sequences. Upon improving their result, we establish the randomness of product of pseudorandom matrices formed from two linear block codes with respect to the empirical spectral distribution, if the dual distance of both codes is at least 5, hence providing an affirmative answer to the question.
