Apéry-Type Series with Summation Indices of Mixed Parities and Colored Multiple Zeta Values, I

In this paper, we shall study Aéry-type series in which the central binomial coefficient appears as part of the summand. Let $b_n=4^n/\binom{2n}{n}$. Let $s_1,\dots,s_d$ be positive integers with $s_1\ge 2$. We consider the series \begin{align*} \sum_{n_1>\cdots>n_d>0} \frac{b_{n_1}}{n_1^{s_1}\cdots n_d^{s_d}} \end{align*} and the variants with some or all indices $n_j$ replaced by $2n_j\pm 1$ and some or all "$>$" replaced by "$\ge$", provided the series are defined. We can also replace $b_{n_1}$ by its square in the above series when $s_1\ge 3$. The main result is that all such series are $\mathbb{Q}$-linear combinations of the real and/or the imaginary parts of some colored multiple zeta values of level 4, i.e., multiple polylogarithms evaluated at 4th roots of unity.

On $N$-Unital Functions

Let $N$ be a positive integer. We say a non-constant rational function $U(x)\in{\mathbb C}(x)$ is $N$-\emph{unital} if all the zeros and poles of both $U(x)$ and $1-U(x)$ are either 0 or $N$-th roots of unity. These functions are called admissible functions by Au in a recent paper arXiv:2007.03957 and used to study some central binomial series of Apéry type via their iterated integral expression related to multiple polylogrithms and colored multiple zeta values. In this paper we determine the complete set of these functions for $N\le 4$ by elementary method, and briefly study some cases at level 5.

A Family of Supercongruences Involving Multiple Harmonic Sums

In recent years, the congruence $$ \sum_{\substack{i+j+k=p\\ i,j,k>0}} \frac1{ijk} \equiv -2 B_{p-3} \pmod{p}, $$ first discovered by the last author have been generalized by either increasing the number of indices and considering the corresponding supercongruences, or by considering the alternating version of multiple harmonic sums. In this paper, we prove a family of similar supercongruences modulo prime powers $p^r$ with the indexes summing up to $mp^r$ where $m$ is coprime to $p$, where all the indexes are also coprime to $p$.

Variants of Multiple Zeta Values with Even and Odd Summation Indices

In this paper, we define and study a variant of multiple zeta values of level 2 (which is called multiple mixed values or multiple $M$-values, MMVs for short), which forms a subspace of the space of alternating multiple zeta values. This variant includes both Hoffman's multiple $t$-values and Kaneko-Tsumura's multiple $T$-values as special cases. We set up the algebra framework for the double shuffle relations (DBSFs) of the MMVs, and exhibits nice properties such as duality, integral shuffle relation, series stuffle relation, etc., similar to ordinary multiple zeta values. Moreover, we study several $T$-variants of Kaneko-Yamamoto type multiple zeta values by establishing some explicit relations between these $T$-variants and Kaneko-Tsumura $ψ$-values. Furthermore, we prove that all Kaneko-Tsumura $ψ$-values can be expressed in terms of Kaneko-Tsumura multiple $T$-values by using multiple associated integrals, and find some duality formulas for Kaneko-Tsumura $ψ$-values. We also discuss the explicit evaluations for a kind of MMVs of depth two and three by using the method of contour integral and residue theorem. Finally, we investigate the dimensions of a few interesting subspaces of MMVs for small weights.

Some Families of Super Congruences Involving Alternating Multiple Harmonic Sums

Let $p$ be a prime. In this short note we study some families of super congruences involving the following alternating sums \begin{equation*} \sum_{\substack{j_1+j_2+\cdots+j_n=2 p^r p\nmid j_1 j_2 \cdots j_n}} \frac{(-1)^{j_1+\cdots+j_b}}{j_1\cdots j_n} \pmod{p^r}, \end{equation*} which extend similar statements proved by Shen and Cai who treated the cases when $n=4,5$.

Rota--Baxter algebras and left weak composition quasi-symmetric functions

Motivated by a question of Rota, this paper studies the relationship between Rota--Baxter algebras and symmetric related functions. The starting point is the fact that the space of quasi-symmetric functions is spanned by monomial quasi-symmetric functions which are indexed by compositions. When composition is replaced by left weak composition (LWC), we obtain the concept of LWC monomial quasi-symmetric functions and the resulting space of LWC quasi-symmetric functions. In line with the question of Rota, the latter is shown to be isomorphic to the free commutative nonunitary Rota--Baxter algebra on one generator. The combinatorial interpretation of quasi-symmetric functions by $P$-partitions from compositions is extended to the context of left weak compositions, leading to the concept of LWC fundamental quasi-symmetric functions. The transformation formulas for LWC monomial and LWC fundamental quasi-symmetric functions are obtained, generalizing the corresponding results for quasi-symmetric functions. Extending the close relationship between quasi-symmetric functions and multiple zeta values, weighted multiple zeta values and a $q$-analog of multiple zeta values are investigated and a decomposition formula is established.

Finite and symmetrized colored multiple zeta values

Colored multiple zeta values are special values of multiple polylogarithms evaluated at Nth roots of unity. In this paper, we define both the finite and the symmetrized versions of these values and show that they both satisfy the double shuffle relations. Further, we provide strong evidence for an isomorphism connecting the two spaces generated by these two kinds of values. This is a generalization of a recent work of Kaneko and Zagier on finite and symmetrized multiple zeta values and of the second author on finite and symmetrized Euler sums.

Finite Multiple zeta Values and Finite Euler Sums

The alternating multiple harmonic sums are partial sums of the infinite series defining the Euler sums which are the alternating version of the multiple zeta value series. In this paper, we present some systematic structural results of the van Hamme type congruences of these sums, collected as finite Euler sums. Moreover, we relate this to the structure of the Euler sums, which generalizes the corresponding result of the multiple zeta values. We also provide a few conjectures with extensive numerical support.

Families of weighted sum formulas for multiple zeta values

Euler's sum formula and its multi-variable and weighted generalizations form a large class of the identities of multiple zeta values. In this paper we prove a family of identities involving Bernoulli numbers and apply them to obtain infinitely many weighted sum formulas for double zeta values and triple zeta values where the weight coefficients are given by symmetric polynomials. We give a general conjecture in arbitrary depth at the end of the paper.

Uniform Approach to Double Shuffle and Duality Relations of Various q-Analogs of Multiple Zeta Values via Rota-Baxter Algebras

The multiple zeta values (MZVs) have been studied extensively in recent years. Currently there exist a few different types of $q$-analogs of the MZVs ($q$-MZVs) defined and studied by mathematicians and physicists. In this paper, we give a uniform treatment of these $q$-MZVs by considering their double shuffle relations (DBSFs) and duality relations. The main idea is a modification and generalization of the one used by Castillo Medina et al. who have considered the DBSFs of a special type of $q$-MZVs. We generalize their method to a few other types of $q$-MZVs including the one defined by the author in 2003. With different approach, Takeyama has already studied this type by "regularization" and observed that there exist $\mathbb Q$-linear relations which are not consequences of the DBSFs. He also discovered a new family of relations which we call the duality relations in this paper. This deficiency of DBSFs occurs among other types, too, so we generalize the duality relations to all of these values and find that there are still some missing relations. This leads to the most general type of $q$-MZVs together with a new kind of relations called $\bf P$-$\bf Q$ relations which are used to lower the deficiencies further. As an application, we will confirm a conjecture of Okounkov on the dimensions of certain $q$-MZV spaces, either theoretically or numerically, for the weight up to 12. Some relevant numerical data are provided at the end.

On q-Analog of Wolstenholme Type Congruences for Multiple Harmonic Sums

Multiple harmonic sums are iterated generalizations of harmonic sums. Recently Dilcher has considered congruences involving q-analogs of these sums in depth one. In this paper we shall study the homogeneous case for arbitrary depth by using generating functions and shuffle relations of the q-analog of multiple harmonic sums. At the end, we also consider some non-homogeneous cases.

Restricted Sum Formula of Alternating Euler Sums

In this paper we study restricted sum formulas involving alternating Euler sums which are defined by ζ(s_1,...,s_{d};ε_1,...,ε_d)=\sum_{n_1>...>n_d\ge 1}\frac{ε_1^{n_1}... ε_{d}^{n_d}}{n_1^{s_1}... n_d^{s_d}}, for all positive integers s_1,...,s_{d} and ε_1=\pm 1,..., ε_{d}=\pm 1 with (s_1,ε_1) unequal (1,1). We call w=s_1+...+s_{d} the weight and d the depth. When ε_j=-1 we say the jth component is alternating. We first consider Euler sums of the following special type: ξ(2s_1,...,2s_{d})=ζ(2s_1,...,2s_{d};(-1)^{s_1},...,(-1)^{s_{d}}). For d\le n, let Ξ(2n,d) be the sum of all ξ(2s_1,..., 2s_{d}) of fixed weight 2n and depth d. We derive a formula for Ξ(2n,d) using the theory of symmetric functions established by Hoffman recently. We also consider restricted sum formulas of Euler sums with fixed weight 2n, depth d and fixed number αof alternating components at even arguments. When α=1 or α=d we can determine precisely the restricted sum formulas. For other αwe only treat the cases d<5 completely since the symmetric function theory becomes more and more unwieldy to work with when αmoves closer to d/2.

Finiteness of p-Divisible Sets of Multiple Harmonic Sums

Ce document fait suite à \emph{Wolstenholme Type Theorem for multiple harmonic sums}, Intl.\ J.\ of Number Theory \textbf{4}(1) (2008) 73-106.

A Note on Colored Tornheim's Double Series

In this short note, we provide an explicit formula to compute every colored double Tornheim's series by using double polylogarithm values at roots of unity. When the colors are given by $\pm 1$ our formula is different from that of Tsumura [On alternating analogues of Tornheim's double series II, Ramanujan J. 18 (2009), 81-90] even though numerical data confirm both are correct in almost all the cases. This agreement can also be checked rigorously by using regularized double shuffle relations of the alternating double zeta values in weights less than eight.

Alternating Euler sums and special values of Witten multiple zeta function attached to so(5)

In this note we shall study the Witten multiple zeta function associated to the Lie algebra so(5) defined by Matsumoto. Our main result shows that its special values at nonnegative integers are always expressible by alternating Euler sums. More precisely, every such special value of weight w>2 is a finite rational linear combination of alternating Euler sums of weight w and depth at most two, except when the only nonzero argument is one of the two last variables in which case $ζ(w-1)$ is needed.

Multi-polylogs at twelfth roots of unity and special values of Witten multiple zeta function attached to the exceptional Lie algebra G_2

In this note we shall study the Witten multiple zeta function associated to the exceptional Lie algebra g_2. Our main result shows that its special values at nonnegative integers can always be expressed as rational linear combinations of the multi-polylogs evaluated at 12th roots of unity, except for two irregular cases.

Reducibility of Signed Cyclic Sums of Mordell-Tornheim Zeta and L-Values

In this paper, we shall show that certain signed cyclic sums of Mordell-Tornheim L-values are rational linear combinations of products of multiple L-values of lower depths (i.e., reducible). This simultaneously generalizes some results of Subbarao and Sitaramachandrarao, and Matsumoto et al. As a direct corollary, we can prove that for any integer k>2 and positive integer n, the Mordell-Tornheim sums zeta_\MT(\{n\}_k) is reducible.

Standard Relations of Multiple Polylogarithm Values at Roots of Unity

Let $N$ be a positive integer. In this paper we shall study the special values of multiple polylogarithms at $N$th roots of unity, called multiple polylogarithm values (MPVs) of level $N$. These objects are generalizations of multiple zeta values and alternating Euler sums, which was studied by Euler, and more recently, many mathematicians and theoretical physicists.. Our primary goal in this paper is to investigate the relations among the MPVs of the same weight and level by using the regularized double shuffle relations, regularized distribution relations, lifted versions of such relations from lower weights, and seeded relations which are produced by relations of weight one MPVs. We call relations from the above four families \emph{standard}. Let $d(w,N)$ be the $\Q$-dimension of $\Q$-span of all MPVs of weight $w$ and level $N$. Then we obtain upper bound for $d(w,N)$ by the standard relations which in general are no worse or no better than the one given by Deligne and Goncharov depending on whether $N$ is a prime-power or not, respectively, except for 2- and 3-powers, in which case standard relations seem to be often incomplete whereas Deligne shows that their bound should be sharp by a variant of Grothedieck's period conjecture. This suggests that in general there should be other linear relations among MPVs besides the standard relations, some of which are written down in this paper explicitly with good numerical verification. We also provide a few conjectures which are supported by our computational evidence.

An exotic shuffle relation of $ζ(\{2\}^m)$ and $ζ(\{3,1\}^n)$

In this short note we will provide a new and shorter proof of the following exotic shuffle relation of multiple zeta values: $$ζ(\{2\}^m \sha\{3,1\}^n)={2n+m\choose m} \frac{π^{4n+2m}}{(2n+1)\cdot (4n+2m+1)!}.$$ This was proved by Zagier when n=0, by Broadhurst when $m=0$, and by Borwein, Bradley, and Broadhurst when m=1. In general this was proved by Bowman and Bradley in \emph{The algebra and combinatorics of shuffles and multiple zeta values}, J. of Combinatorial Theory, Series A, Vol. \textbf{97} (1)(2002), 43--63. Our idea in the general case is to use the method of Borwein et al. to reduce the above general relation to some families of combinatorial identities which can be verified by WZ-method.

Double Shuffle Relations of Euler Sums

In this paper we shall develop a theory of (extended) double shuffle relations of Euler sums which generalizes that of multiple zeta values (see Ihara, Kaneko and Zagier, \emph{Derivation and double shuffle relations for multiple zeta values}. Compos. Math. \textbf{142} (2)(2006), 307--338). After setting up the general framework we provide some numerical evidence for our two main conjectures. At the end we shall prove the following long standing conjecture: for every positive integer n $$ζ(\{3\}^n)=8^nζ(\{\ol2,1\}^n).$$ The main idea is to use the double shuffle relations and the distribution relation. This particular distribution relation doesn't follow from the double shuffle relation in general. But we believe it does follow from the extended double shuffle relations.
