Generalized Multiple q-Zeta Values and Characters of Vertex Algebras

We analyze certain characters of vertex algebras that can be expressed using (generalized) q-MZVs. We consider: (i) characters of vertex algebras associated to arc spaces, (ii) characters (or indices) of $\mathcal{S}$-class vertex operator algebras in 4d $\mathcal{N}=2$ SCFT, (iii) supercharacters of the $\mathcal{U}$ family of vertex algebras. Along the way we also introduce a family of multiple $q$-zeta values associated to simple Lie algebras and present their conjectural properties.

Jet Schemes, Quantum Dilogarithm and Feigin-Stoyanovsky's Principal Subspaces

We analyze the structure of Feigin-Stoyanovsky's principal subspaces of affine Lie algebra from the jet algebra viewpoint. For type $A$ level one principal subspaces, we show that their shifted multi-graded Hilbert series can be expressed either using the quantum dilogarithm or as certain generating functions ``counting" finite-dimensional representations of $A$-type quivers. This notably results in novel fermionic character formulas for these principal subspaces. Moreover, our result implies that all level one principal subspaces of type $A$ are ``classically free" as vertex algebras. We also analyze infinite jet algebras associated to principal subspaces of affine vertex algebras $L_{1}(\mathfrak{so}_5)$, $L_{1}(\mathfrak{so}_8)$ and $L_1(\frak{g}_2)$. We derive a new character formula for the principal subspace of $L_1(\mathfrak{so}_5)$, proving that it is classically free, and present evidence that the principal subspaces of $L_1(\mathfrak{so}_8)$ and of $L_1(\frak{g}_2)$ are also classically free.

Modularity of Nahm Sums for the Tadpole Diagram

We prove Rogers-Ramanujan type identities for the Nahm sums associated with the tadpole Cartan matrix of rank $3$. These identities reveal the modularity of these sums, and thereby we confirm a conjecture of Penn, Calinescu and the first author in this case. We show that these Nahm sums together with some shifted sums can be combined into a vector-valued modular function on the full modular group. We also present some conjectures for a general rank.

Higher Depth False Modular Forms

False theta functions are functions that are closely related to classical theta functions and mock theta functions. In this paper, we study their modular properties at all ranks by forming modular completions analogous to modular completions of indefinite theta functions of any signature and thereby develop a structure parallel to the recently developed theory of higher depth mock modular forms. We then demonstrate this theoretical base on a number of examples up to depth three coming from characters of modules for the vertex algebra $W^0(p)_{A_n}$, $1 \leq n \leq 3$, and from $\hat{Z}$-invariants of $3$-manifolds associated with gauge group $\mathrm{SU}(3)$.

On $q$-series identities for false theta series

We prove several infinite families of $q$-series identities for false theta functions and related series. These identities are motivated by considerations of characters of modules of vertex operator superalgebras and of quantum dilogarithms. We also obtain closely related modular identities of the Göllnitz-Gordon-Andrews type. As a byproduct of our identities, we establish several identities for the Rogers dilogarithm function coming from multi $q$-hypergeometric series with "double poles".

On parafermion vertex algebras of $\frak{sl}(2)_{-3/2}$ and $\frak{sl}(3)_{-3/2}$

We study parafermion vertex algebras $N_{-3/2}(\frak{sl}(2))$ and $N_{-3/2}(\frak{sl}(3))$. Using the isomorphism between $N_{-3/2}(\frak{sl}(3))$ and the logarithmic vertex algebra $\mathcal{W}^{0} (2)_{A_2} $ from [2], we show that these parafermion vertex algebras are infinite direct sums of irreducible modules for the Zamolodchikov algebra $\mathcal{W}(2,3)$ of central charge $c=-10$, and that $N_{-3/2}(\frak{sl}(3))$ is a direct sum of irreducible $N_{-3/2}(\frak{sl}(2))$-modules. As a byproduct, we prove certain conjectures about the vertex algebra $\mathcal{W}^0(p)_{A_2}$. We also obtain a vertex-algebraic proof of the irreducibility of a family of $\mathcal W(2,3)_{c}$ modules at $c=-10$.

Permutation orbifolds of Virasoro vertex algebras and $W$-algebras

We study permutation orbifolds of the $2$-fold and $3$-fold tensor product for the Virasoro vertex algebra $\mathcal{V}_c$ of central charge $c$. In particular, we show that for all but finitely many central charges $\left(\mathcal{V}_c^{\otimes 3}\right)^{\mathbb{Z}_3}$ is a $W$-algebra of type $(2, 4, 5, 6^3 , 7, 8^3 , 9^3 , 10^2 )$. We also study orbifolds of their simple quotients and obtain new realizations of certain rational affine $W$-algebras associated to a principal nilpotent element. Further analysis of permutation orbifolds of the celebrated $(2,5)$-minimal vertex algebra $\mathcal{L}_{-\frac{22}{5}}$ is presented.

Higher depth quantum modular forms and plumbed $3$-manifolds

In this paper we study new invariants $\widehat{Z}_{\boldsymbol{a}}(q)$ attached to plumbed $3$-manifolds that were introduced by Gukov, Pei, Putrov, and Vafa. These remarkable $q$-series at radial limits conjecturally compute WRT invariants of the corresponding plumbed $3$-manifold. Here we investigate the series $\widehat{Z}_{0}(q)$ for unimodular plumbing ${\tt H}$-graphs with six vertices. We prove that for every positive definite unimodular plumbing matrix, $\widehat{Z}_{0}(q)$ is a depth two quantum modular form on $\mathbb{Q}$.

Logarithmic Link Invariants of $\overline{U}_q^H(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ and Asymptotic Dimensions of Singlet Vertex Algebras

We study relationships between the restricted unrolled quantum group $\overline{U}_q^H(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$ at $2r$-th root of unity $q=e^{πi/r}, r \geq 2$, and the singlet vertex operator algebra $\mathcal M(r)$. We use deformable families of modules to efficiently compute $(1, 1)$-tangle invariants colored with projective modules of $\overline{U}_q^H(\mathfrak{sl}_2)$. These relate to the colored Alexander tangle invariants studied in [ADO, M1]. It follows that the regularized asymptotic dimensions of characters of $\mathcal M(r)$ coincide with the corresponding modified traces of open Hopf link invariants. We also discuss various categorical properties of $\mathcal M(r)$-mod in connection to braided tensor categories.

Some applications and constructions of intertwining operators in LCFT

We discuss some applications of fusion rules and intertwining operators in the representation theory of cyclic orbifolds of the triplet vertex operator algebra. We prove that the classification of irreducible modules for the orbifold vertex algebra W(p)^{A_m} follows from a conjectural fusion rules formula for the singlet vertex algebra modules. In the p=2 case, we computed fusion rules for the irreducible singlet vertex algebra modules by using intertwining operators. This result implies the classification of irreducible modules for W(2)^{A_m}, conjectured previously in [4]. The main technical tool is a new deformed realization of the triplet and singlet vertex algebras, which is used to construct certain intertwining operators that can not be detected by using standard free field realizations.

Vertex Algebras $\mathcal{W}(p)^{A_m}$ and $\mathcal{W}(p)^{D_m}$ and Constant Term Identities

We consider $AD$-type orbifolds of the triplet vertex algebras $\mathcal{W}(p)$ extending the well-known $c=1$ orbifolds of lattice vertex algebras. We study the structure of Zhu's algebras $A(\mathcal{W}(p)^{A_m})$ and $A(\mathcal{W}(p)^{D_m})$, where $A_m$ and $D_m$ are cyclic and dihedral groups, respectively. A combinatorial algorithm for classification of irreducible $\mathcal{W}(p)^Γ$-modules is developed, which relies on a family of constant term identities and properties of certain polynomials based on constant terms. All these properties can be checked for small values of $m$ and $p$ with a computer software. As a result, we argue that if certain constant term properties hold, the irreducible modules constructed in [Commun. Contemp. Math. 15 (2013), 1350028, 30 pages, arXiv:1212.5453; Internat. J. Math. 25 (2014), 1450001, 34 pages, arXiv:1304.5711] provide a complete list of irreducible $\mathcal{W}(p)^{A_m}$ and $\mathcal{W}(p)^{D_m}$-modules. This paper is a continuation of our previous work on the $ADE$ subalgebras of the triplet vertex algebra $\mathcal{W}(p)$.

False Theta Functions and the Verlinde formula

We discover new analytic properties of classical partial and false theta functions and their potential applications to representation theory of W-algebras and vertex algebras in general. More precisely, motivated by clues from conformal field theory, first, we are able to determine modular-like transformation properties of regularized partial and false theta functions. Then, after suitable identification of regularized partial/false theta functions with the characters of atypical modules for the singlet vertex algebra W(2,2p-1), we formulate and prove a Verlinde-type formula for the fusion rules of irreducible W(2,2p-1)-modules.

On the Fourier expansion of Bloch-Okounkov

In this paper, we study algebraic and analytic properties of Fourier coefficients, expressed as $q$-series, of the so-called Bloch-Okounkov $n$-point function. We prove several results about these series and explain how they relate to Rogers' false theta function. Then we obtain their full asymptotics, as $τ\rightarrow 0$, and use this result to derive asymptotic properties of the coefficients in the $q$-expansion. At the end, we also introduce and discuss higher rank generalization of Bloch-Okounkov's functions.

Vertex-algebraic structure of principal subspaces of standard A_2^{(2)}-modules, I

Extending earlier work of the authors, this is the first in a series of papers devoted to the vertex-algebraic structure of principal subspaces of standard modules for twisted affine Kac-Moody algebras. In this part, we develop the necessary theory of principal subspaces for the affine Lie algebra A_2^{(2)}, which we expect can be extended to higher rank algebras. As a "test case," we consider the principal subspace of the basic A_2^{(2)}-module and explore its structure in depth.

ADE subalgebras of the triplet vertex algebra W(p): A-series

Motivated by \cite{am1}, for every finite subgroup $Γ\subset PSL(2,\mathbb{C})$ we investigate the fixed point subalgebra $\triplet^Γ$ of the triplet vertex $\mathcal {W}(p)$, of central charge $1-\frac{6(p-1)^{2}}{p}$, $p\geq2$. This part deals with the $A$-series in the ADE classification of finite subgroups of $PSL(2,\mathbb{C})$. First, we prove the $C_2$-cofiniteness of the $A_m$-fixed subalgebra $\triplet^{A_m}$. Then we construct a family of $\am$-modules, which are expected to form a complete set of irreps. As a strong support to our conjecture, we prove modular invariance of (generalized) characters of the relevant (logarithmic) modules. Further evidence is provided by calculations in Zhu's algebra for $m=2$. We also present a rigorous proof of the fact that the full automorphism group of $\triplet$ is $PSL(2,\mathbb{C})$.

ADE subalgebras of the triplet vertex algebra W(p): D_m-series

We are continuing our study of ADE-orbifold subalgebras of the triplet vertex algebra W(p). This part deals with the dihedral series. First, subject to a certain constant term identity, we classify all irreducible modules for the vertex algebra $\bar{M(1)} ^+$, the $\Z_2$--orbifold of the singlet vertex algebra $\bar{M(1)}$. Then we classify irreducible modules and determine Zhu's and $C_2$--algebra for the vertex algebra $\triplet ^{D_2}$. A general method for construction of twisted $\triplet$--modules is also introduced. We also discuss classification of twisted $\bar{M(1)}$--modules including the twisted Zhu's algebra $A_Ψ (\bar{M(1)})$, which is of independent interest. The category of admissible $Ψ$-twisted $\bar{M(1)}$-modules is expected to be semisimple. We also prove $C_2$-cofiniteness of $\triplet^{D_m}$ for all $m$, and give a conjectural list of irreducible $\triplet^{D_m}$-modules. Finally, we compute characters of the relevant irreducible modules and describe their modular closure.

An explicit realization of logarithmic modules for the vertex operator algebra W_{p,p'}

By extending the methods used in our earlier work, in this paper, we present an explicit realization of logarithmic $\mathcal{W}_{p,p'$}-modules that have L(0) nilpotent rank three. This was achieved by combining the techniques developed in \cite{AdM-2009} with the theory of local systems of vertex operators \cite{LL}. In addition, we also construct a new type of extension of $\mathcal{W}_{p,p'}$, denoted by $\mathcal{V}$. Our results confirm several claims in the physics literature regarding the structure of projective covers of certain irreducible representations in the principal block. This approach can be applied to other models defined via a pair screenings.

C_2-cofinite W-algebras and their logarithmic representations

We discuss our recent results on the representation theory of $\mathcal{W}$--algebras relevant to Logarithmic Conformal Field Theory. First we explain some general constructions of $\mathcal{W}$-algebras coming from screening operators. Then we review the results on $C_2$--cofiniteness, the structure of Zhu's algebras, and the existence of logarithmic modules for triplet vertex algebras. We propose some conjectures and open problems which put the theory of triplet vertex algebras into a broader context. New realizations of logarithmic modules for $\mathcal{W}$-algebras defined via screenings are also presented.

On W-algebra extensions of (2,p) minimal models: p > 3

This is a continuation of arXiv:0908.4053, where, among other things, we classified irreducible representations of the triplet vertex algebra W_{2,3}. In this part we extend the classification to W_{2,p}, for all odd p>3. We also determine the structure of the center of the Zhu algebra A(W_{2,p}) which implies the existence of a family of logarithmic modules having L(0)-nilpotent ranks 2 and 3. A logarithmic version of Macdonald-Morris constant term identity plays a key role in the paper.

The structure of Zhu's algebras for certain W-algebras

We introduce a new approach that allows us to determine the structure of Zhu's algebra for certain vertex operator (super)algebras which admit horizontal $\mathbb{Z} $-grading. By using this method and an earlier description of Zhu's algebra for the singlet W-algebra, we completely describe the structure of Zhu's algebra for the triplet vertex algebra W(p). As a consequence, we prove that Zhu's algebra A(W(p)) and the related Poisson algebra P(W(p)) have the same dimension. We also completely describe Zhu's algebras for the N=1 triplet vertex operator superalgebra SW(m). Moreover, we obtain similar results for the c=0 triplet vertex algebra W_{2,3} important in logarithmic conformal field theory. Because our approach is "internal" we had to employ several constant term identities for purposes of getting right upper bounds on dimension of Zhu's algebras.

Lattice construction of logarithmic modules for certain vertex algebras

A general method for constructing logarithmic modules in vertex operator algebra theory is presented. By utilizing this approach, we give explicit vertex operator construction of certain indecomposable and logarithmic modules for the triplet vertex algebra W(p) and for other subalgebras of lattice vertex algebras and their N=1 super extensions. We analyze in detail indecomposable modules obtained in this way, giving further evidence for the conjectural equivalence between the category of W(p)-modules and the category of modules for the restricted quantum group $\bar{\mathcal{U}}_q(sl_2)$ at root of unity. We also construct logarithmic representations for a certain affine vertex operator algebra at admissible level realized in \cite{A-2005}. In this way we prove the existence of the logarithmic representations predicted in \cite{G}. Our approach enlightens related logarithmic intertwining operators among indecomposable modules, which we also construct in the paper.

Twisted vertex operators and Bernoulli polynomials

Using general principles in the theory of vertex operator algebras and their twisted modules, we obtain a bosonic, twisted construction of a certain central extension of a Lie algebra of differential operators on the circle, for an arbitrary twisting automorphism. The construction involves the Bernoulli polynomials in a fundamental way. We develop new identities and principles in the theory of vertex operator algebras and their twisted modules, and explain the construction by applying general results, including an identity that we call "modified weak associativity", to the Heisenberg vertex operator algebra. This paper gives proofs and further explanations of results announced earlier. It is a generalization to twisted vertex operators of work announced by the second author some time ago, and includes as a special case the proof of the main results of that work.
