Probing the inner structures of the observed $Ξ_b$ and $Ξ_b'$ resonances

To shed light on the inner structure of the observed single-bottom strange baryons, in this work we systematically study the Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka allowed strong decay properties of $1P$- and $2S$-wave $Ξ_b$ and $Ξ_b'$ baryons within the $j-j$ coupling scheme in the framework of the quark pair creation model. For a comparison, we also give the predictions of the chiral quark model. The calculations indicate that: (i) The $1P$-wave $λ$-mode $Ξ_b$ states $Ξ_b|J^P=1/2^-,1\rangle_λ$ and $Ξ_b|J^P=3/2^-,1\rangle_λ$ are highly promising candidates for the observed state $Ξ_b(6087)$ and $Ξ_b(6095)/Ξ_b(6100)$, respectively. The $1P$-wave $ρ$-mode $Ξ_b$ states $Ξ_b|J^P=3/2^-,2\rangle_ρ$ and $Ξ_b|J^P=5/2^-,2\rangle_ρ$ are likely candidates for the state $Ξ_b(6227)$. Meanwhile, we cannot rule out the possibility that $Ξ_b(6227)$ could be a candidate of the $1P$-wave $λ$-mode $Ξ_b'$ state $Ξ_b'|J^P=3/2^-,2\rangle_λ$ or $Ξ_b'|J^P=5/2^-,2\rangle_λ$. (ii) For the other $1P$-wave $ρ$-mode $Ξ_b$ states and $1P$-wave $λ$-mode $Ξ_b'$ states, they may be moderate states with a width of several tens of MeV. Their main decay channels are $Ξ_bπ$, $Ξ_b'π$, $Ξ_b^*π$ or $Λ_b\bar{K}$. The width of the $1P$-wave $ρ$-mode $Ξ_b'$ states are slightly broader, approximately several tens to over one hundred MeV, and the dominant decay channels are $Ξ_b'π$, $Ξ_b^*π$, $Σ_bK$ or $Σ_b^*K$. (iii) The $2S$-wave $λ$-mode $Ξ_b$ and $Ξ_b'$ states are most likely to be relatively narrow state with a width of only a few to around ten MeV, and they mainly decay into $Ξ_b'π$ or $Ξ_b^*π$. In addition, the $2S$-wave $λ$-mode $Ξ_b'$ states may also mainly decay into the $1P$-wave $Ξ_b$ baryon via the pionic decay processes.

Aspects of $Z_{cs}(3985)$ and $Z_{cs}(4000)$

In the present work we investigate the $η_c K$, $J/ψK$, $η_c K^*$ and $J/ψK^*$ hidden-charm decay modes for the $c\bar{c}s\bar{u}$ four-quark system in the molecular and compact tetraquark scenarios using the quark-exchange model. Our theoretical results indicate that if the newly observed states $Z_{cs}(3985)$ and $Z_{cs}(4000)$ are two different states, $Z_{cs}(4000)$ may be interpreted as the mixture $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}(D^0D_s^{*-}+D^{*0}D_s^{-})$ of which the $J/ψK$ partial decay width is about $Γ\sim2.89$ MeV, while $Z_{cs}(3985)$ may be explained as the mixture $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}(-D^0D_s^{*-}+D^{*0}D_s^{-})$ of which the $J/ψK$ partial decay width is small to zero. Moreover, if the state $Z_{cs}(4000)$ can be explained as the mixed state $\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}(D^0D_s^{*-}+D^{*0}D_s^{-})$ indeed, the partial decay width ratio between $J/ψK$ and $η_cK^*$ is close to unit, which indicates the decay channel $η_cK^*$ may be a ideal channel as well to decode the inner structure of $Z_{cs}(4000)$. In addition, the partial decay width for the tensor molecular state $|D^{*0}D_s^{*-}\rangle_{2^+}$ decaying into $J/ψK^*$ can reach up to a few MeV, which shows this tensor molecular state has a good potential to be observed in this decay channel.

The $1D$-wave bottom-strange baryons and possible interpretation of $Ξ_{b}(6327)^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}(6333)^{0}$

Inspired by the LHCb's newest observation of two new excited $Ξ_b^0$ states, we systematically study the strong decays of the low-lying $λ$- and $ρ$-modes $1D$-wave $Ξ_{b}$ and $Ξ^{'}_{b}$ baryons using the chiral quark model within the $j$-$j$ coupling scheme. Based on the measured masses and strong decay properties of $Ξ_{b}(6327)^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}(6333)^{0}$, we explain the two states as the $λ$-mode $1D$ $Ξ_{b}$ states with $ J^{P}=3/2^{+} $ and $ J^{P}=5/2^{+} $, respectively. Moreover, under this assignment, another dominant decay channel of $Ξ_{b}(6327)^{0}$ is $Ξ'_bπ$ and that of $Ξ_{b}(6333)^{0}$ is $Ξ_b^*π$. Hence, the decay modes $Ξ'_bπ$ and $Ξ_b^*π$ may be another ideal channels as well to decode the inner structure of $Ξ_{b}(6327)^{0}$ and $Ξ_{b}(6333)^{0}$, respectively. For other unseen $1D$ $Ξ_b$ and $Ξ'_b$ states, our results indicate: (i) $Ξ_b|J^P=\frac{3}{2}^+,2\rangle_ρ$ and $Ξ_b|J^P=\frac{5}{2}^+,2\rangle_ρ$ are most likely to be narrow states with a width of $Γ\simeq(12-30)$ MeV, and dominantly decay into $Σ_bK$ and $Σ^*_bK$, respectively; (ii) The $1D$ $Ξ'_b$ baryons are not broad states, and the widths vary in the range of $Γ\simeq(14-46)$ MeV. These states have a good potential to be observed in their dominant decay processes.

The strong decays of the low-lying $ρ$-mode $1P$-wave singly heavy baryons

We have systematically calculated the strong decays of the low-lying $ρ$-mode $1P$-wave $Λ_{c(b)}$, $Σ_{c(b)}$, $Ξ_{c(b)}$, $Ξ^{'}_{c(b)}$, $Ω_{c(b)}$ baryons using the chiral quark model within the $j$-$j$ coupling scheme. For the controversial states, our results indicate: (i) For the singly charmed heavy baryons, the newly observed $Λ_{c}(2910)^+$ is a good candidate of the $J^P=5/2^-$ state $Λ_c|J^{P}=\frac{5}{2}^{-},2\rangle_ρ$. (ii) For the singly bottom heavy baryons, the $Ξ_{b}(6227)^-$ favors the $J^{P}=5/2^{-}$ state $Ξ_{b}|J^{P}=\frac{5}{2}^{-},2\rangle_ρ$. (iii) The other missing $ρ$-mode $1P$-wave excitations in $Λ_{b}$, $Σ_{c(b)}$ and $Ξ^{'}_{c(b)}$ families appear to be broad structures with $Γ$$\sim$(100-200) MeV, and their strong decay widths are sensitive to their masses. (iv) The $ρ$-mode $1P$-wave $Ξ_{c(b)}$ and $Ω_{c(b)}$ baryons have a relatively narrow decay width of a few MeV or a few tens of MeV, and have a good potential to be observed in forthcoming experiments.

Possible interpretation of the newly observed $Ω_b$ states

Inspired by the newly observed $Ω_b$ states by the LHCb Collaboration, we investigate the two-body strong decays of the low-lying $λ$-mode $Ω_b$ baryons up to $N=2$ shell using the chiral quark model within the $j$-$j$ coupling scheme. Our results indicate that: (i) the newly observed states $Ω_b(6316)^-$ and $Ω_b(6330)^-$ are good candidates of the light spin $j=1$ states, while the spin-parity $J^P=1/2^-$ and $J^P=3/2^-$ cannot be distinguished. The other two states, $Ω_b(6340)$ and $Ω_b(6350)$ mostly correspond to the light spin $j=2$ states, while the spin-parity $J^P=3/2^-$ and $J^P=5/2^-$ cannot be distinguished as well.(ii) The $2S$ states with spin-parity $J^P=1/2^+$ and $J^P=3/2^+$, respectively, might be narrow states with a width of $Γ<2$ MeV. (iii) The $1D$ states are not broad and the total decay widths vary from several to dozens of MeV, which have a good potential to be observed in future experiments.

Probing hidden-charm decay properties of $P_c$ states in a molecular scenario

The $P_c(4312)$, $P_c(4440)$, and $P_c(4457)$ observed by the LHCb Collaboration are very likely to be $S$-wave $Σ_c\bar{D}^{(*)}$ molecular candidates due to their near-threshold character. In this work, we study the hidden-charm decay modes of these $P_c$ states, $P_c\to J/ψp(η_cp)$, using a quark interchange model. The decay mechanism for the $P_c\to J/ψp(η_cp)$ processes arises from the quark-quark interactions, where all parameters are determined by the mass spectra of mesons. We present our results in two scenarios. In scenario I, we perform the dynamical calculations and treat the $P_c$ states as pure $Σ_c \bar D^{(*)}$ molecules. In scenario II, after considering the coupled channel effect between different flavor configurations $Σ^{(*)}_c\bar D^{(*)}$, we calculate these partial decay widths again. The decay patterns in these two scenarios can help us to explore the molecular assignment and the inner flavor configurations for the $P_c$ states. In particular, the decay widths of $Γ(P_c(4312)\toη_cp)$ are comparable to the $J/ψp$ decay widths in both of these two scenarios. Future experiments like LHCb may confirm the existence of the $P_c(4312)$ in the $η_cp$ channel.

Toward establishing the low-lying $P$-wave $Σ_b$ states

In the present work, we analyze the $P$-wave singly-heavy baryon spectrum belonging to $\mathbf{6}_F$ by combining the observations of the heavy baryon states, and restudy the strong decays of the $1P$ wave $Σ_b$ states within the $j$-$j$ coupling scheme using the chiral quark model. We obtain that: (i) the structure $Σ_b(6097)$ observed in the $Λ_bπ$ final state may arise from the overlapping of $Σ_b|J^P=\frac{3}{2}^-,2\rangle$ and $Σ_b|J^P=\frac{5}{2}^-,2\rangle$. (ii) The broad structure $Σ_b(6072)$ observed in the $Λ_bππ$ final state may arise from the overlapping of $Σ_b|J^P=\frac{1}{2}^-,1\rangle$ and $Σ_b|J^P=\frac{3}{2}^-,1\rangle$. (iii) The missing state $Σ_b|J^P=\frac{1}{2}^-,0\rangle$ is most likely to be a narrow state with a width of $Γ\sim10$ MeV, and mainly decays into $Λ_bπ$ channel.

Understanding the newly observed $Ξ_c^0$ states through their decays

Inspired by the newly observed $Ξ_c^0$ states by the LHCb Collaboration, we investigate the OZI-allowed two-body strong decays of the $λ$-mode $1P$ wave $Ξ'_c$ states within the chiral quark model. Our results indicate that: (i) the newly observed states $Ξ_c(2923)^0$ and $Ξ_c(2939)^0$ are good candidates of the $λ$-mode $1P$ wave $Ξ'_c$ states with the spin-parity $J^P=3/2^-$, namely $|^4P_λ3/2^-\rangle$ and $|^2P_λ3/2^-\rangle$, respectively. (ii) The another newly observed state $Ξ_c(2965)^0$ mostly corresponds to the $λ$-mode $1P$-wave $Ξ'_c$ state with the spin-parity $J^P=5/2^-$, namely $|^4P_λ5/2^-\rangle$. (iii) For the two $λ$-mode $J^P=1/2^-$ mixed states, the $|P_λ~1/2^-\rangle_1$ is a narrow state with a width of $Γ\sim15$ MeV and mainly decays into $Ξ'_cπ$; while the $|P_λ~1/2^-\rangle_2$ state has a width of $Γ\sim52$ MeV and dominantly decays into $Ξ_cπ$ and $Λ_cK$ channels. If the broad structure around $2880$ MeV observed at LHCb arises from the new $Ξ^0_c$ state, this state is very likely to be the $|P_λ~1/2^-\rangle_2$ state.

A possible explanation of the threshold enhancement in the process $e^+e^-\rightarrow Λ\barΛ$

Inspired by the recent measurement of the process $e^+e^-\rightarrow Λ\barΛ$, we calculate the mass spectrum of the $ϕ$ meson with the GI model. For the excited vector strangeonium states $ϕ(3S,~4S,~5S,~6S)$ and $ϕ(2D,~3D,~4D,~5D)$, we further investigate the electronic decay width with the Van Royen-Weisskopf formula, and the partial widths of the $Λ\barΛ$, $Ξ^{-(*)}\barΞ^+$, and $Σ^{+(*)}\barΣ^{-(*)}$ decay modes with the extended quark pair creation model. We find that the electronic decay width of the $D$-wave vector strangeonium is about $3\sim8$ times larger than that of the $S$-wave vector strangeonium. Around 2232 MeV the partial decay width of the $Λ\barΛ$ mode can reach up to several MeV for $ϕ(3^3S_1)$, while the partial $Λ\barΛ$ decay width of $ϕ(2^3D_1)$ is $\mathcal{O}(10^{-3})$ keV. If the threshold enhancement reported by the BESIII Collaboration arises from the strangeonium meson, this state is very likely to be the $ϕ(3^3S_1)$ state. We also note that the $Λ\barΛ$ and $Σ^{+}\barΣ^{-}$ partial decay widths of the states $ϕ(3^3D_1)$ and $ϕ(4^3S_1)$ are about several MeV, respectively, which are enough to be observed in future experiments.

The hidden-charm strong decays of the $Z_c$ states

Inspired by BESIII's measurement of the decay $Z_c(3900)^{\pm}\rightarrow ρ^{\pm}η_c$, we calculate the branching fraction ratio between the $ρη_c$ and $πJ/ψ$ decay modes for the charged states $Z_c(3900)$, $Z_c(4020)$ and $Z_c(4430)$ using a quark interchange model. Our results show that (i) the ratio $R_{Z_c(3900)}=\frac{\mathcal{B}(Z_c(3900)^{\pm}\rightarrow ρ^{\pm}η_c)}{\mathcal{B}(Z_c(3900)^{\pm}\rightarrow π^{\pm}J/ψ)}$ is 1.3 and 1.6 in the molecular and tetraquark scenarios respectively, which is roughly consistent with the experimental data $R^{\mathrm{exp}}=2.2\pm0.9$. (ii) The ratios $\frac{Γ[Z_c(3900)\rightarrow ρη_c]}{Γ[Z_c(4020)\rightarrow ρη_c]}$ and $\frac{Γ[Z_c(3900)\rightarrow πJ/ψ]}{Γ[Z_c(4020)\rightarrow πJ/ψ]}$ are about 12.5 and 24.2, respectively in the molecular scenario. In contrast, these ratios are about 1.2 in the tetraquark scenario. The non-observation of the $Z_c(4020)$ signal in the $πJ/ψ$ decay mode strongly indicates that $Z_c(3900)$ and $Z_c(4020)$ are molecule-like signals which arise from the $D^{(*)}{\bar D}^{(*)}$ hadronic interactions.

Combined analysis of the $π^-p\rightarrow K^0Λ$, $ηn$ reactions in a chiral quark model

A combined analysis of the reactions $π^-p\rightarrow K^0Λ$ and $ηn$ is carried out with a chiral quark model. The data in the center-of-mass (c.m.) energy range from threshold up to $W\simeq 1.8$ GeV are reasonably described. For $π^-p\rightarrow K^0Λ$, it is found that $N(1535)S_{11}$ and $N(1650)S_{11}$ paly crucial roles near threshold. The $N(1650)S_{11}$ resonance contributes to the reaction through configuration mixing with $N(1535)S_{11}$. The constructive interference between $N(1535)S_{11}$ and $N(1650)S_{11}$ is responsible for the peak structure around threshold in the total cross section. The $n$-pole, $u$- and $t$-channel backgrounds provide significant contributions to the reaction as well. While, for the $π^-p\rightarrow ηn$ process, the "first peak" in the total cross section is dominant by $N(1535)S_{11}$, which has a sizeable destructive interference with $N(1650)S_{11}$. Around $P_π\simeq $ 1.0 GeV/c ($W\simeq 1.7$ GeV), there seems to be a small bump structure in the total cross section, which might be explained by the interference between the $u$-channel and $N(1650)S_{11}$. The $N(1520)D_{13}$ resonance notably affects the angle distributions of the cross sections, although less effects are seen in the total cross section. The role of $P$-wave state $N(1720)P_{13}$ should be further confirmed by future experiments. If $N(1720)P_{13}$ has a narrow width of $Γ\simeq 120$ MeV as found in our previous work by a study of the $π^0$ photoproduction processes, obvious evidence should be seen in the $π^-p\rightarrow K^0Λ$ and $ηn$ processes as well.

Radiative transitions of charmonium states in a constituent quark model

We study the electromagnetic (EM) transitions of the $nS$, $nP$ ($n\leq 3$), and $nD$ ($n\leq 2$) charmonium states with a constituent quark model. We obtain a reasonable description of the EM transitions of the well-established charmonium states $J/ψ$, $ψ(2S)$, $χ_{cJ}(1P)$, $h_c(1P)$ and $ψ(3770)$. We find that the M2 transitions give notable corrections to some E1 dominant processes by interfering with the E1 transitions. Our predictions of EM decay properties for the higher charmonium states are also presented and compared with other model predictions. In particular, we discuss the EM decay properties of some $"XYZ"$ states, such as $X(3823)$, $X(3872)$, $X(3915)$, $X(3940)$ and $X(4350)$ as conventional charmonium states. Assuming $X(3872)$ as the $χ_{c1}(2P)$ state, our predicted ratio $Γ[X(3872)\to ψ(2S)γ]/Γ[X(3872)\to J/ψγ]\simeq 4.0$ is consistent with BaBar's measurement.

Neutral pion photoproduction on the nucleon in a chiral quark model

A chiral quark-model approach is adopted to study the $γp\rightarrow π^0p$ and $γn\rightarrow π^0 n$ reactions. Good descriptions of the total and differential cross sections and single-polarization observables are obtained from the pion production threshold up to the second resonance region. It is found that (i) the $n=0$ shell resonance $Δ(1232)P_{33}$, the $n=1$ shell resonances $N(1535)S_{11}$ and $N(1520)D_{13}$, and the $n=2$ shell resonance $N(1720)P_{13}$ play crucial roles in these two processes. They are responsible for the first, second and third bump structures in the cross sections, respectively. (ii) Furthermore, obvious evidences of $N(1650)S_{11}$ and $Δ(1620)S_{31}$ are also found in the reactions. They notably affect the cross sections and the polarization observables from the second resonance region to the third resonance region. (iii) The $u$-channel background plays a crucial role in the reactions. It has strong interferences with the $s$-channel resonances. (iv) The $t$-channel background seems to be needed in the reactions. Including the $t$-channel vector-meson exchange contribution, the descriptions in the energy region $E_γ= 600\sim 900$ MeV are improved significantly. The helicity amplitudes of the main resonances, $Δ(1232)P_{33}$, $N(1535)S_{11}$, $N(1520)D_{13}$, $N(1720)P_{13}$, $N(1650)S_{11}$ and $Δ(1620)S_{31}$, are extracted and compared with the results from other groups.

Role of $Λ(1670)$ in the $γp \to K^+ ηΛ$ reaction near threshold

The role of the $Λ(1670)$ resonance in the $γp \to K^+ ηΛ$ reaction near threshold is studied within an effective Lagrangian approach. We perform a calculation for the total and differential cross section of the $γp \to K^+ ηΛ$ reaction by including the contributions from the $Λ(1670)$ intermediate state decaying into $ηΛ$ dominated by $K^-$ and $K^{*-}$ mesons exchanges, the nucleon pole and $N^*(1535)$ resonance decaying into $K^+ Λ$ dominated by exchanges of $ω$ and $K^-$ mesons. Besides, the non-resonance process and contact terms to keep the total scattering amplitude gauge invariant are also considered. With our model parameters, the total cross section of this reaction is of the order of $1$ nanobarn at photon beam energy $E_γ \sim 2.5$ GeV. It is expected that our model predictions could be tested by future experiments.

Strong decays of higher excited heavy-light mesons in a chiral quark model

The strong decay properties of the higher excited heavy-light mesons from the first radially excited states up to the first $F$-wave states are studied in a constituent quark model. It is found many missing excitations have good potentials to be found in future experiments for their narrow widths, some of them dominantly decay into the first orbital excitations rather than into ground states. In future observations, one should focus on the decay processes not only into the ground states, but also into the low-lying $P$-wave excitations with $J^P=0^+,1^+$. Furthermore, the nature of the newly observed states $D_J(3000)$, $D_J^*(3000)$ and B(5970) is discussed. It is predicted that $D_J(3000)$ seems to be a partner of $D_{sJ}(3040)$, which could be identified as the high-mass mixed state $|2{P_1}>_L$ ($J^P=1^+$) via the $2^1P_1$-$2^3P_1$ mixing. The $D_J^*(3000)$ resonance seems to favor the $1^3F_4$ state, however, the quantum numbers $J^P=0^+$ and $2^+$ can not be excluded complectly, more experimental observations are needed to determine its $J^P$ values. The B(5970) resonance is most likely to be the $1^3D_3$ with $J^P=3^-$.

$Ξ$ baryon strong decays in a chiral quark model

The strong decays of $Ξ$ baryons up to N=2 shell were studied in a chiral quark model. The strong decay properties of these well-established ground decuplet baryons were reasonably described. We found that (i) $Ξ(1690)$ and $Ξ(1820)$ could be assigned to the spin-parity $J^P=1/2^-$ state $|70,^{2}{8},1,1,1/2^->$ and the spin-parity $J^P=3/2^-$ state $|70,^{2}{8},1,1,3/2^->$, respectively. Slight configuration mixing might exist in these two negative parity states. (ii) $Ξ(1950)$ might correspond to several different $Ξ$ resonances. The broad states ($Γ\sim 100$ MeV) observed in the $Ξπ$ channel could be classified as the pure $J^P=5/2^-$ octet state $Ξ^0|70,^{4}8,1,1,5/2^->$ or the mixed state $|Ξ1/2^->_3 $ with $J^P=1/2^-$. The $Ξ$ resonances with moderate width ($Γ\sim 60$ MeV) observed in the $Ξπ$ channel might correspond to the $J^P=1/2^+$ excitation $|56,^{4}10,2,2,1/2^+>$. The second orbital excitation $|56,^{4}10,2,2,3/2^+>$ and the mixed state $|Ξ1/2^->_1$ might be candidates for the narrow width state observed in the $Λ\bar{K}$ channel, however, their spin-parity numbers are incompatible with the moment analysis of the data. (iii) $Ξ(2030)$ could not be assigned to either any spin-parity $J^P=7/2^+$ states or any pure $J^P=5/2^+$ configurations. It seems to favor the $|70,^{2}8,2,2,3/2^+>$ assignment, however, its spin conflicts with the moment analysis of the data. To find more $Ξ$ resonances, the observations in the $Ξ(1530)π$ and $Σ(1385) \bar{K}$ channels are necessary.

Low energy reaction $K^-p\rightarrowΛη$ and the negative parity $Λ$ resonances

The reaction $K^-p\rightarrowΛη$ at low energies is studied with a chiral quark model approach. Good descriptions of the existing experimental data are obtained. It is found that $Λ(1670)$ dominates the reaction around threshold. Furthermore, $u$- and $t$-channel backgrounds play crucial roles in this reaction as well. The contributions from the $D$-wave state $Λ(1690)$ are negligibly small for its tiny coupling to $ηΛ$. To understand the strong coupling properties of the low-lying negative parity $Λ$ resonances extracted from the $\bar{K}N$ scattering, we further study their strong decays. It is found that these resonances are most likely mixed states between different configurations. Considering these low-lying negative parity $Λ$ resonances as mixed three-quark states, we can reasonably understand both their strong decay properties from Particle Data Group and their strong coupling properties extracted from the $\bar{K}N$ scattering. As a byproduct, we also predict the strong decay properties of the missing $D$-wave state $|Λ\frac{3}{2}^-\ >_3$ with a mass of $\sim1.8$ GeV. We suggest our experimental colleagues search it in the $Σ(1385)π$ and $Σπ$ channels.

Charm-strange baryon strong decays in a chiral quark model

The strong decays of charm-strange baryons up to N=2 shell are studied in a chiral quark model. The theoretical predictions for the well determined charm-strange baryons, $Ξ_c^*(2645)$, $Ξ_c(2790)$ and $Ξ_c(2815)$, are in good agreement with the experimental data. This model is also extended to analyze the strong decays of the other newly observed charm-strange baryons $Ξ_c(2930)$, $Ξ_c(2980)$, $Ξ_c(3055)$, $Ξ_c(3080)$ and $Ξ_c(3123)$. Our predictions are given as follows. (i) $Ξ_c(2930)$ might be the first $P$-wave excitation of $Ξ_c'$ with $J^P=1/2^-$, favors the $|Ξ_c'\ ^2P_λ1/2^->$ or $|Ξ_c'\ ^4P_λ1/2^->$ state. (ii) $Ξ_c(2980)$ might correspond to two overlapping $P$-wave states $|Ξ_c'\ ^2P_ρ1/2^->$ and $|Ξ_c'\ ^2P_ρ3/2^->$, respectively. The $Ξ_c(2980)$ observed in the $Λ_c^+\bar{K}π$ final state is most likely to be the $|Ξ_c'\ ^2P_ρ1/2^->$ state, while the narrower resonance with a mass $m\simeq 2.97$ GeV observed in the $Ξ_c^*(2645)π$ channel favors to be assigned to the $|Ξ_c'\ ^2P_ρ3/2^->$ state. (iii) $Ξ_c(3080)$ favors to be classified as the $|Ξ_c\ S_{ρρ} 1/2^+>$ state, i.e., the first radial excitation (2S) of $Ξ_c$. (iv) $Ξ_c(3055)$ is most likely to be the first $D$-wave excitation of $Ξ_c$ with $J^P=3/2^+$, favors the $|Ξ_c\ ^2D_{λλ} 3/2^+>$ state. (v) $Ξ_c(3123)$ might be assigned to the $|Ξ_c'\ ^4D_{λλ} 3/2^+>$, $|Ξ_c'\ ^4D_{λλ} 5/2^+>$, or $|Ξ_c\ ^2D_{ρρ} 5/2^+>$ state. As a by-product, we calculate the strong decays of the bottom baryons $Σ_b^{\pm}$, $Σ_b^{*\pm}$ and $Ξ_b^*$, which are in good agreement with the recent observations as well.
