Exact asymptotics of component-wise extrema of two-dimensional Brownian motion

We derive the exact asymptotics of P(sup⁡t≥0(X1(t)−μ1t)>u, sup⁡s≥0(X2(s)−μ2s)>u),  u→∞, P\left( \sup_{t\ge 0} \Bigl( X_1(t) - μ_1 t\Bigr)> u, \ \sup_{s\ge 0} \Bigl( X_2(s) - μ_2 s\Bigr)> u \right), \ \ u\to\infty, where (X1(t),X2(s))t,s≥0(X_1(t),X_2(s))_{t,s\ge0} is a correlated two-dimensional Brownian motion with correlation ρ∈[−1,1]ρ\in[-1,1] and μ1,μ2>0μ_1,μ_2>0. It appears that the play between ρρ and μ1,μ2μ_1,μ_2 leads to several types of asymptotics. Although the exponent in the asymptotics as a function of ρρ is continuous, one can observe different types of prefactor functions depending on the range of ρρ, which constitute a phase-type transition phenomena.

On the cumulative Parisian ruin of multi-dimensional Brownian motion models

Consider a multi-dimensional Brownian motion which models the surplus processes of multiple lines of business of an insurance company. Our main result gives exact asymptotics for the cumulative Parisian ruin probability as the initial capital tends to infinity. An asymptotic distribution for the conditional cumulative Parisian ruin time is also derived. The obtained results on the cumulative Parisian ruin can be seen as generalizations of some of the results derived in Debicki et al (2018, Stochastic Processes and Their Applications). As a particular interesting case, the two-dimensional Brownian motion risk model is discussed in detail.

Extremes of a class of nonhomogeneous Gaussian random fields

This contribution establishes exact tail asymptotics of sup⁡(s,t)∈E\sup_{(s,t)\in\mathbf{E}} X(s,t)X(s,t) for a large class of nonhomogeneous Gaussian random fields XX on a bounded convex set E⊂R2\mathbf{E}\subset\mathbb{R}^2, with variance function that attains its maximum on a segment on E\mathbf{E}. These findings extend the classical results for homogeneous Gaussian random fields and Gaussian random fields with unique maximum point of the variance. Applications of our result include the derivation of the exact tail asymptotics of the Shepp statistics for stationary Gaussian processes, Brownian bridge and fractional Brownian motion as well as the exact tail asymptotic expansion for the maximum loss and span of stationary Gaussian processes.

Extremes of locally stationary chi-square processes with trend

Chi-square processes with trend appear naturally as limiting processes in various statistical models. In this paper we are concerned with the exact tail asymptotics of the supremum taken over (0; 1) of a class of locally stationary chi-square processes with particular admissible trends. An important tool for establishing our results is a weak version of Slepian's lemma for chi-square processes. Some special cases including squared Brownian bridge and Bessel process are discussed.

Extremes of Chi-square Processes with Trend

This paper studies the supremum of a chi-square process with trend over a threshold-dependent-time horizon. Under the assumption that the chi-square process is generated from a centered self-similar Gaussian process and the trend function is modeled by a polynomial function, we obtain the exact tail asymptotics of the supremum of the chi-square process with trend. These results are of interest in applications in engineering, insurance, queueing and statistics, etc. Some possible extensions of our results are also discussed.

Extremes of vector-valued Gaussian processes: exact asymptotics

Let {Xi(t),t≥0},1≤i≤n\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, 1\le i\le n be mutually independent centered Gaussian processes with almost surely continuous sample paths. We derive the exact asymptotics of P(∃t∈[0,T]∀i=1...nXi(t)>u) P\left(\exists_{t \in [0,T]} \forall_{i=1 ... n} X_i(t)> u \right) as u→∞u\to\infty, for both locally stationary XiX_i's and XiX_i's with a non-constant generalized variance function. Additionally, we analyze properties of multidimensional counterparts of the Pickands and Piterbarg constants, that appear in the derived asymptotics. Important by-products of this contribution are the vector-process extensions of the Piterbarg inequality, the Borell-TIS inequality, the Slepian lemma and the Pickands-Piterbarg lemma which are the main pillars of the extremal theory of vector-valued Gaussian processes.

On Parisian ruin over a finite-time horizon

For a risk process Ru(t)=u+ct−X(t),t≥0R_u(t)=u+ct-X(t), t\ge 0, where u≥0u\ge 0 is the initial capital, c>0c>0 is the premium rate and X(t),t≥0X(t),t\ge 0 is an aggregate claim process, we investigate the probability of the Parisian ruin PS(u,Tu)=P{inf⁡t∈[0,S]sup⁡s∈[t,t+Tu]Ru(s)<0}, \mathcal{P}_S(u,T_u)=\mathbb{P}\{\inf_{t\in[0,S]} \sup_{s\in[t,t+T_u]} R_u(s)<0\}, with a given positive constant SS and a positive measurable function TuT_u. We derive asymptotic expansion of PS(u,Tu)\mathcal{P}_S(u,T_u), as u→∞u\to\infty, for the aggregate claim process XX modeled by Gaussian processes. As a by-product, we derive the exact tail asymptotics of the infimum of a standard Brownian motion with drift over a finite-time interval.

Extremes and first passage times of correlated fBm's

Let {Xi(t),t≥0},i=1,2\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, i=1,2 be two standard fractional Brownian motions being jointly Gaussian with constant cross-correlation. In this paper we derive the exact asymptotics of the joint survival function P{sup⁡s∈[0,1]X1(s)>u, sup⁡t∈[0,1]X2(t)>u} \mathbb{P}\{\sup_{s\in[0,1]}X_1(s)>u,\ \sup_{t\in[0,1]}X_2(t)>u\} as u→∞u\rightarrow \infty. A novel finding of this contribution is the exponential approximation of the joint conditional first passage times of X1,X2X_1, X_2. As a by-product we obtain generalizations of the Borell-TIS inequality and the Piterbarg inequality for 2-dimensional Gaussian random fields.

Extremes of Order Statistics of Stationary Processes

Let {Xi(t),t≥0},1≤i≤n\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, 1\le i\le n be independent copies of a stationary process {X(t),t≥0}\{X(t), t\ge0\}. For given positive constants u,Tu,T, define the set of rrth conjunctions Cr,T,u:={t∈[0,T]:Xr:n(t)>u} C_{r,T,u}:= \{t\in [0,T]: X_{r:n}(t) > u\} with Xr:n(t)X_{r:n}(t) the rrth largest order statistics of X1(t),…,Xn(t),t≥0X_1(t), \ldots , X_n(t), t\ge 0. In numerous applications such as brain mapping and digital communication systems, of interest is the approximation of the probability that the set of conjunctions Cr,T,uC_{r,T,u} is not empty. Imposing the Albin's conditions on XX, in this paper we obtain an exact asymptotic expansion of this probability as uu tends to infinity. Further, we establish the tail asymptotics of the supremum of a generalized skew-Gaussian process and a Gumbel limit theorem for the minimum order statistics of stationary Gaussian processes. As a by-product we derive a version of Li and Shao's normal comparison lemma for the minimum and the maximum of Gaussian random vectors.

Finite-time ruin probability of aggregate Gaussian processes

Let {∑i=1nλiXi(t),t∈[0,T]}\left\{\sum_{i=1}^n λ_i X_i(t), t\in [0,T]\right\} be an aggregate Gaussian risk process with Xi,i≤nX_i, i\leq n independent Gaussian processes satisfying Piterbarg conditions and λiλ_i's given positive weights. In this paper we derive exact asymptotics of the finite-time ruin probability given by P(sup⁡t∈[0,T](∑i=1nλiXi(t)−g(t))>u)\mathbb{P}\left(\sup_{t\in[0,T]}\left(\sum_{i=1}^n λ_i X_i(t)- g(t) \right)>u\right) as u→∞u\to\infty for some general trend function gg. Further, we derive asymptotic results for the finite-time ruin probabilities of risk processes perturbed by an aggregate Gaussian process.

On the gamma-reflected processes with fBm input

Define a γγ-reflected process Wγ(t)=YH(t)−γinf⁡s∈[0,t]YH(s)W_γ(t)=Y_H(t)-γ\inf_{s\in[0,t]}Y_H(s), t≥0t\ge0 with input process {YH(t),t≥0}\{Y_H(t), t\ge 0\} which is a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index H∈(0,1)H\in (0,1) and a negative linear trend. In risk theory Rγ(t)=u−Wγ(t),t≥0R_γ(t)=u-W_γ(t), t\ge0 is referred to as the risk process with tax of a loss-carry-forward type, whereas in queueing theory W1W_1 is referred to as the queue length process. In this paper, we investigate the ruin probability and the ruin time of the risk process Rγ,γ∈[0,1]R_γ, γ\in [0,1] over a surplus dependent time interval [0,Tu][0, T_u].

On the Probability of Conjunctions of Stationary Gaussian Processes

Let {Xi(t),t≥0},1≤i≤n\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, 1\le i\le n be independent centered stationary Gaussian processes with unit variance and almost surely continuous sample paths. For given positive constants u,Tu,T, define the set of conjunctions C[0,T],u:={t∈[0,T]:min⁡1≤i≤nXi(t)≥u}.C_{[0,T],u}:=\{t\in [0,T]: \min_{1 \le i \le n} X_i(t) \ge u\}. Motivated by some applications in brain mapping and digital communication systems, we obtain exact asymptotic expansion of P(C[0,T],u≠φ) P(C_{[0,T],u} \not=φ) as u→∞u\to\infty. Moreover, we establish the Berman sojourn limit theorem for the random process {min⁡1≤i≤nXi(t),t≥0}\{\min_{1 \le i \le n} X_i(t), t\ge0\} and derive the tail asymptotics of the supremum of each order statistics process.

Random Shifting and Scaling of Insurance Risks

Random shifting typically appears in credibility models whereas random scaling is often encountered in stochastic models for claim sizes reflecting the time-value property of money. In this article we discuss some aspects of random shifting and random scaling in insurance focusing in particular on credibility models, dependence structure of claim sizes in collective risk models, and extreme value models for the joint dependence of large losses. We show that specifying certain actuarial models using random shifting or scaling has some advantages for both theoretical treatments and practical applications.

Approximation of passage times of gamma-reflected processes with fBm input

Define a gamma-reflected process W_γ(t)=Y_H(t)-γ\inf_{s\in[0,t]}Y_H(s), t\ge0 with input process {Y_H(t), t\ge 0} which is a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index H\in (0,1) and a negative linear trend. In risk theory {u-W_γ(t), t\ge 0} is referred to as the risk process with tax payments of a loss-carry-forward type. For various risk processes numerous results are known for the approximation of the first and last passage times to 0 (ruin times) when the initial reserve uu goes to infinity. In this paper we show that for the gamma-reflected process the conditional (standardized) first and last passage times are jointly asymptotically Gaussian and completely dependent. An important contribution of this paper is that it links ruin problems with extremes of non-homogeneous Gaussian random fields defined by Y_H which are also investigated in this contribution.

Extremes of alpha(t)-locally Stationary Gaussian Random Fields

This contribution derives the exact asymptotic behaviour of the supremum of alpha(t)-locally stationary Gaussian random fields over a finite hypercube. We present two applications of our result; the first one deals with extremes of ggregate multifractional Brownian motions, whereas the second application establishes the exact asymptotics of the supremum of chi-processes generated by multifractional Brownian motions.

On the Supremum of gamma-reflected Processes with Fractional Brownian Motion as Input

Let XH(t),t≥0X_H(t), t\ge 0 be a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in(0,1}$ and define a gamma-reflected process $W_\Ga(t)=X_H(t)-ct-\gammainf_{s\in[0,t]}\left(X_H(s)-cs \right)$, t≥0t\ge0 with c>0,γ∈[0,1]c>0,γ\in [0,1] two given constants. In this paper we establish the exact tail asymptotic behaviour of sup⁡t∈[0,T]Wγ(t)\sup_{t\in [0,T]} W_γ(t) for any $T\in (0,\IF]$. Furthermore, we derive the exact tail asymptotic behaviour of the supremum of certain non-homogeneous mean-zero Gaussian random fields.

Piterbarg Theorems for Chi-processes with Trend

Let χn(t)=(∑i=1nXi2(t))1/2,t≥0χ_n(t) = (\sum_{i=1}^n X_i^2(t))^{1/2},t\ge0 be a chi-process with nn degrees of freedom where XiX_i's are independent copies of some generic centered Gaussian process XX. This paper derives the exact asymptotic behavior of P{\sup_{t\in[0,T]} χ_n(t)>u} as u \to \infty, where TT is a given positive constant, and g(⋅)g(\cdot) is some non-negative bounded measurable function. The case g(t)≡0g(t)\equiv0 is investigated in numerous contributions by V.I. Piterbarg. Our novel asymptotic results for both stationary and non-stationary XXare referred to as Piterbarg theorems for chi-processes with trend.

Tail Asymptotics of Supremum of Certain Gaussian Processes over Threshold Dependent Random Intervals

Let {X(t),t≥0}\{X(t),t\ge0\} be a centered Gaussian process and let γγ be a non-negative constant. In this paper we study the asymptotics of P{sup⁡t∈[0,T/uγ]X(t)>u}P\{\underset{t\in [0,\mathcal{T}/u^γ]}\sup X(t)>u\} as u→∞u\to\infty, with T\mathcal{T} an independent of XX non-negative random variable. As an application, we derive the asymptotics of finite-time ruin probability of time-changed fractional Brownian motion risk processes.
