Tail Measures and Regular Variation

A general framework for the study of regular variation (RV) is that of Polish star-shaped metric spaces, while recent developments in [1] have discussed RV with respect to some properly localised boundedness $\mathcal{B}$ imposing weak assumptions on the structure of Polish space. Along the lines of the latter approach, we discuss the RV of Borel measures and random processes on general Polish metric spaces. Tail measures introduced in [2] appear naturally as limiting measures of regularly varying time series. We define tail measures on a measurable space indexed by $\mathcal{H}(D)$, a countable family of homogeneous coordinate maps, and show some tractable instances for the investigation of RV when $\mathcal{B}$ is determined by $\mathcal{H}(D)$. This allows us to study the regular variation of cadlag processes on $D(R^l, R^d)$ retrieving in particular results obtained in [1] for RV of stationary cadlag processes on the real line removing $l=1$ therein. Further, we discuss potential applications and open questions.

Multivariate Max-Stable Processes and Homogeneous Functionals

Multivariate max-stable processes are important for both theoretical investigations and various statistical applications motivated by the fact that these are limiting processes, for instance of stationary multivariate regularly varying time series, [1]. In this contribution we explore the relation between homogeneous functionals and multivariate max-stable processes and discuss the connections between multivariate max-stable process and zonoid / max-zonoid equivalence. We illustrate our results considering Brown-Resnick and Smith processes.

Sojourn times of Gaussian related random fields

This paper is concerned with the asymptotic analysis of sojourn times of random fields with continuous sample paths. Under a very general framework we show that there is an interesting relationship between tail asymptotics of sojourn times and that of supremum. Moreover, we establish the uniform double-sum method to derive the tail asymptotics of sojourn times. In the literature, based on the pioneering research of S. Berman the sojourn times have been utilised to derive the tail asymptotics of supremum of Gaussian processes. In this paper we show that the opposite direction is even more fruitful, namely knowing the asymptotics of supremum o f random processes and fields (in particular Gaussian) it is possible to establish the asymptotics of their sojourn times. We illustrate our findings considering i) two dimensional Gaussian random fields, ii) chi-process generated by stationary Gaussian processes and iii) stationary Gaussian queueing processes.

Boundary non-crossing probabilities of Gaussian processes: sharp bounds and asymptotics

We study boundary non-crossing probabilities $$ P_{f,u} := \mathrm P\big(\forall t\in \mathbb T\ X_t + f(t)\le u(t)\big) $$ for continuous centered Gaussian process $X$ indexed by some arbitrary compact separable metric space $\mathbb T$. We obtain both upper and lower bounds for $P_{f,u}$. The bounds are matching in the sense that they lead to precise logarithmic asymptotics for the large-drift case $P_{y f,u}$, $y \to+\infty$, which are two-term approximations (up to $o(y)$). The asymptotics are formulated in terms of the solution $\tilde f$ to the constrained optimization problem $$ \|h\|_{\mathbb H_X}\to \min, \quad h\in \mathbb H_X, h\ge f $$ in the reproducing kernel Hilbert space $\mathbb H_X$ of $X$. Several applications of the results are further presented.

Finite-time ruin probability for correlated Brownian motions

Let $(W_1(s), W_2(t)), s,t\ge 0$ be a bivariate Brownian motion with standard Brownian motion marginals and constant correlation $ρ\in (-1,1)$ and define the joint survival probability of both supremum functionals $π_ρ(c_1,c_2; u, v)$ by $$π_ρ(c_1,c_2; u, v)=\mathbb{P}\left(\sup_{s \in [0,1]} \left(W_1(s)-c_1s\right)>u,\sup_{t \in [0,1]} \left(W_2(t)-c_2t\right)>v\right) ,$$ where $c_1,c_2 \in \mathbb{R}$ and $u,v$ are given positive constants. Approximation of $π_ρ(c_1,c_2; u, v) $ is of interest for the analysis of ruin probability in bivariate Brownian risk model as well as in the study of bivariate test statistics. In this contribution we derive tight bounds for $π_ρ(c_1,c_2; u, v)$ in the case $ρ\in (0,1)$ and obtain precise approximations by letting $u\to \infty$ and taking $v= au$ for some fixed positive constant $a$ and $ρ\in (-1,1).$

Multivariate Extremes Over a Random Number of Observations

The classical multivariate extreme-value theory concerns the modeling of extremes in a multivariate random sample, suggesting the use of max-stable distributions. In this work, the classical theory is extended to the case where aggregated data, such as maxima of a random number of observations, are considered. We derive a limit theorem concerning the attractors for the distributions of the aggregated data, which boil down to a new family of max-stable distributions. We also connect the extremal dependence structure of classical max-stable distributions and that of our new family of max-stable distributions. By means of an inversion method, we derive a semiparametric composite-estimator for the extremal dependence of the unobservable data, starting from a preliminary estimator of the extremal dependence of the aggregated data. Furthermore, we develop the large-sample theory of the composite-estimator and illustrate its finite-sample performance via a simulation study.

Extremes of a class of nonhomogeneous Gaussian random fields

This contribution establishes exact tail asymptotics of $\sup_{(s,t)\in\mathbf{E}}$ $X(s,t)$ for a large class of nonhomogeneous Gaussian random fields $X$ on a bounded convex set $\mathbf{E}\subset\mathbb{R}^2$, with variance function that attains its maximum on a segment on $\mathbf{E}$. These findings extend the classical results for homogeneous Gaussian random fields and Gaussian random fields with unique maximum point of the variance. Applications of our result include the derivation of the exact tail asymptotics of the Shepp statistics for stationary Gaussian processes, Brownian bridge and fractional Brownian motion as well as the exact tail asymptotic expansion for the maximum loss and span of stationary Gaussian processes.

Extremes of Gaussian Random Fields with regularly varying dependence structure

Let $X(t), t\in \mathcal{T}$ be a centered Gaussian random field with variance function $σ^2(\cdot)$ that attains its maximum at the unique point $t_0\in \mathcal{T}$, and let $M(\mathcal{T}):=\sup_{t\in \mathcal{T}} X(t)$. For $\mathcal{T}$ a compact subset of $\R$, the current literature explains the asymptotic tail behaviour of $M(\mathcal{T})$ under some regularity conditions including that $1- σ(t)$ has a polynomial decrease to 0 as $t \to t_0$. In this contribution we consider more general case that $1- σ(t)$ is regularly varying at $t_0$. We extend our analysis to random fields defined on some compact $\mathcal{T}\subset \R^2$, deriving the exact tail asymptotics of $M(\mathcal{T})$ for the class of Gaussian random fields with variance and correlation functions being regularly varying at $t_0$. A crucial novel element is the analysis of families of Gaussian random fields that do not possess locally additive dependence structures, which leads to qualitatively new types of asymptotics.

Generalized Pickands constants and stationary max-stable processes

Pickands constants play a crucial role in the asymptotic theory of Gaussian processes. They are commonly defined as the limits of a sequence of expectations involving fractional Brownian motions and, as such, their exact value is often unknown. Recently, Dieker and Yakir (2014) derived a novel representation of Pickands constant as a simple expected value that does not involve a limit operation. In this paper we show that the notion of Pickands constants and their corresponding Dieker-Yakir representations can be extended to a large class of stochastic processes, including general Gaussian and Lévy processes. We furthermore provide a link to spatial extreme value theory and show that Pickands-type constants coincide with certain constants arising in the study of max-stable processes with mixed moving maxima representations.

Insurance Applications of Some New Dependence Models derived from Multivariate Collective Models

Consider two different portfolios which have claims triggered by the same events. Their corresponding collective model over a fixed time period is given in terms of individual claim sizes $(X_i,Y_i), i\ge 1$ and a claim counting random variable $N$. In this paper we are concerned with the joint distribution function $F$ of the \ece{largest claim sizes} $(X_{N:N}, Y_{N:N})$. By allowing $N$ to depend on some parameter, say $θ$, then $F=F(θ)$ is for various choices of $N$ a tractable parametric family of bivariate distribution functions. We present three applications of the implied parametric models to some data from the literature and a new data set from a Swiss insurance company. Furthermore, we investigate both distributional and asymptotic properties of $(X_{N:N}, Y_{N:N})$.

On bivariate lifetime modelling in life insurance applications

Insurance and annuity products covering several lives require the modelling of the joint distribution of future lifetimes. In the interest of simplifying calculations, it is common in practice to assume that the future lifetimes among a group of people are independent. However, extensive research over the past decades suggests otherwise. In this paper, a copula approach is used to model the dependence between lifetimes within a married couple \eH{using data from a large Canadian insurance company}. As a novelty, the age difference and the \eH{gender} of the elder partner are introduced as an argument of the dependence parameter. \green{Maximum likelihood techniques are} thus implemented for the parameter estimation. Not only do the results make clear that the correlation decreases with age difference, but also the dependence between the lifetimes is higher when husband is older than wife. A goodness-of-fit procedure is applied in order to assess the validity of the model. Finally, considering several products available on the life insurance market, the paper concludes with practical illustrations.

Extremes of vector-valued Gaussian processes: exact asymptotics

Let $\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, 1\le i\le n$ be mutually independent centered Gaussian processes with almost surely continuous sample paths. We derive the exact asymptotics of $$ P\left(\exists_{t \in [0,T]} \forall_{i=1 ... n} X_i(t)> u \right) $$ as $u\to\infty$, for both locally stationary $X_i$'s and $X_i$'s with a non-constant generalized variance function. Additionally, we analyze properties of multidimensional counterparts of the Pickands and Piterbarg constants, that appear in the derived asymptotics. Important by-products of this contribution are the vector-process extensions of the Piterbarg inequality, the Borell-TIS inequality, the Slepian lemma and the Pickands-Piterbarg lemma which are the main pillars of the extremal theory of vector-valued Gaussian processes.

On Parisian ruin over a finite-time horizon

For a risk process $R_u(t)=u+ct-X(t), t\ge 0$, where $u\ge 0$ is the initial capital, $c>0$ is the premium rate and $X(t),t\ge 0$ is an aggregate claim process, we investigate the probability of the Parisian ruin \[ \mathcal{P}_S(u,T_u)=\mathbb{P}\{\inf_{t\in[0,S]} \sup_{s\in[t,t+T_u]} R_u(s)<0\}, \] with a given positive constant $S$ and a positive measurable function $T_u$. We derive asymptotic expansion of $\mathcal{P}_S(u,T_u)$, as $u\to\infty$, for the aggregate claim process $X$ modeled by Gaussian processes. As a by-product, we derive the exact tail asymptotics of the infimum of a standard Brownian motion with drift over a finite-time interval.

Asymptotics of the convex hull of spherical samples

In this paper we consider the convex hull of a spherically symmetric sample in $R^d$. Our main contributions are some new asymptotic results for the expectation of the number of vertices, number of facets, area and the volume of the convex hull assuming that the marginal distributions are in the Gumbel max-domain of attraction. Further, we briefly discuss two other models assuming that the marginal distributions are regularly varying or $O$-regularly varying.

Berman's inequality under random scaling

Berman's inequality is the key for establishing asymptotic properties of maxima of Gaussian random sequences and supremum of Gaussian random fields. This contribution shows that, asymptotically an extended version of Berman's inequality can be established for randomly scaled Gaussian random vectors. Two applications presented in this paper demonstrate the use of Berman's inequality under random scaling.

Boundary Non-Crossings of Additive Wiener Fields

Let $W_i=\{W_i(t), t\in \mathbb{R}_+\}, i=1,2$ be two Wiener processes and $W_3=\{W_3(\mathbf{t}), \mathbf{t}\in \mathbb{R}_+^2\}$ be a two-parameter Brownian sheet, all three processes being mutually independent. We derive upper and lower bounds for the boundary non-crossing probability $$P_f=P\{W_1(t_1)+W_2(t_2)+W_3(\mathbf{t})+h(\mathbf{t})\leq u(\mathbf{t}), \mathbf{t}\in\mathbb{R}_+^2\},$$ where $h, u: \mathbb{R}_+^2\rightarrow \mathbb{R}_+$ are two measurable functions. We show further that for large trend functions $γf>0$ asymptotically when $γ\to \infty$ we have that $\ln P_{γf}$ is the same as $\ln P_{γ\underline{f}}$ where $\underline{f}$ is the projection of $f$ on some closed convex set of the reproducing kernel Hilbert Space of $W$. It turns out that our approach is applicable also for the additive Brownian pillow.

Extremes and first passage times of correlated fBm's

Let $\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, i=1,2$ be two standard fractional Brownian motions being jointly Gaussian with constant cross-correlation. In this paper we derive the exact asymptotics of the joint survival function $$ \mathbb{P}\{\sup_{s\in[0,1]}X_1(s)>u,\ \sup_{t\in[0,1]}X_2(t)>u\} $$ as $u\rightarrow \infty$. A novel finding of this contribution is the exponential approximation of the joint conditional first passage times of $X_1, X_2$. As a by-product we obtain generalizations of the Borell-TIS inequality and the Piterbarg inequality for 2-dimensional Gaussian random fields.

Extremes of Aggregated Dirichlet Risks

The class of Dirichlet random vectors is central in numerous probabilistic and statistical applications. The main result of this paper derives the exact tail asymptotics of the aggregated risk of powers of Dirichlet random vectors when the radial component has df in the Gumbel or the Weibull max-domain of attraction. We present further results for the joint asymptotic independence and the max-sum equivalence.

Extremes of Order Statistics of Stationary Processes

Let $\{X_i(t),t\ge0\}, 1\le i\le n$ be independent copies of a stationary process $\{X(t), t\ge0\}$. For given positive constants $u,T$, define the set of $r$th conjunctions $ C_{r,T,u}:= \{t\in [0,T]: X_{r:n}(t) > u\}$ with $X_{r:n}(t)$ the $r$th largest order statistics of $X_1(t), \ldots , X_n(t), t\ge 0$. In numerous applications such as brain mapping and digital communication systems, of interest is the approximation of the probability that the set of conjunctions $C_{r,T,u}$ is not empty. Imposing the Albin's conditions on $X$, in this paper we obtain an exact asymptotic expansion of this probability as $u$ tends to infinity. Further, we establish the tail asymptotics of the supremum of a generalized skew-Gaussian process and a Gumbel limit theorem for the minimum order statistics of stationary Gaussian processes. As a by-product we derive a version of Li and Shao's normal comparison lemma for the minimum and the maximum of Gaussian random vectors.

Finite-time ruin probability of aggregate Gaussian processes

Let $\left\{\sum_{i=1}^n λ_i X_i(t), t\in [0,T]\right\}$ be an aggregate Gaussian risk process with $X_i, i\leq n$ independent Gaussian processes satisfying Piterbarg conditions and $λ_i$'s given positive weights. In this paper we derive exact asymptotics of the finite-time ruin probability given by $$\mathbb{P}\left(\sup_{t\in[0,T]}\left(\sum_{i=1}^n λ_i X_i(t)- g(t) \right)>u\right)$$ as $u\to\infty$ for some general trend function $g$. Further, we derive asymptotic results for the finite-time ruin probabilities of risk processes perturbed by an aggregate Gaussian process.

Maxima of a triangular array of multivariate Gaussian sequence

It is known that the normalized maxima of a sequence of independent and identically distributed bivariate normal random vectors with correlation coefficient $ρ\in (-1,1)$ is asymptotically independent, which may seriously underestimate extreme probabilities in practice. By letting $ρ$ depend on the sample size and go to one with certain rate, Hüsler and Reiss (1989) showed that the normalized maxima can become asymptotically dependent. In this paper, we extend such a study to a triangular array of multivariate Gaussian sequence, which further generalizes the results in Hsing, Hüsler and Reiss (1996) and Hashorva and Weng (2013).

On the gamma-reflected processes with fBm input

Define a $γ$-reflected process $W_γ(t)=Y_H(t)-γ\inf_{s\in[0,t]}Y_H(s)$, $t\ge0$ with input process $\{Y_H(t), t\ge 0\}$ which is a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index $H\in (0,1)$ and a negative linear trend. In risk theory $R_γ(t)=u-W_γ(t), t\ge0$ is referred to as the risk process with tax of a loss-carry-forward type, whereas in queueing theory $W_1$ is referred to as the queue length process. In this paper, we investigate the ruin probability and the ruin time of the risk process $R_γ, γ\in [0,1]$ over a surplus dependent time interval $[0, T_u]$.

For given positive constants $u,T$, define the set of conjunctions $C_{[0,T],u}:=\{t\in [0,T]: \min_{1 \le i \le n} X_i(t) \ge u\}.$ Motivated by some applications in brain mapping and digital communication systems, we obtain exact asymptotic expansion of $ P(C_{[0,T],u} \not=φ)$ as $u\to\infty$. Moreover, we establish the Berman sojourn limit theorem for the random process $\{\min_{1 \le i \le n} X_i(t), t\ge0\}$ and derive the tail asymptotics of the supremum of each order statistics process.

Random Scaling of Gumbel Risks

In this paper we consider the product of two positive independent risks $Y_1$ and $Y_2$. If $Y_1$ is bounded and $Y_2$ has distribution in the Gumbel max-domain of attraction with some auxiliary function which is regularly varying at infinity, then we show that $Y_1Y_2$ has also distribution in the Gumbel max-domain of attraction. Additionally, if both $Y_1,Y_2$ have log-Weibullian or Weibullian tail behavior, we show that $Y_1Y_2$ has log-Weibullian or Weibullian asymptotic tail behavior, respectively. We present two applications of our results.

Random Shifting and Scaling of Insurance Risks

Random shifting typically appears in credibility models whereas random scaling is often encountered in stochastic models for claim sizes reflecting the time-value property of money. In this article we discuss some aspects of random shifting and random scaling in insurance focusing in particular on credibility models, dependence structure of claim sizes in collective risk models, and extreme value models for the joint dependence of large losses. We show that specifying certain actuarial models using random shifting or scaling has some advantages for both theoretical treatments and practical applications.

Tail approximation for reinsurance portfolios of Gaussian-like risks

We consider two different portfolios of proportional reinsurance of the same pool of risks. This contribution is concerned with Gaussian-like risks, which means that for large values the survival function of such risks is, up to a multiplier, the same as that of a standard Gaussian risk. We establish the tail asymptotic behavior of the total loss of each of the reinsurance portfolios and determine also the relation between randomly scaled Gaussian-like portfolios and unscaled ones. Further we show that jointly two portfolios of Gaussian-like risks exhibit asymptotic independence and their weak tail dependence coefficient is non-negative.

Tail Asymptotics of Random Sum and Maximum of Log-Normal Risks

In this paper we derive the asymptotic behaviour of the survival function of both random sum and random maximum of log-normal risks. As for the case of finite sum and maximum investigated in Asmussen and Rojas-Nandaypa (2008) also for the more general setup of random sums and random maximum the principle of a single big jump holds. We investigate both the log-normal sequences and some related dependence structures motivated by stationary Gaussian sequences.

Tail Behaviour of Weighted Sums of Order Statistics of Dependent Risks

Let $X_{1},\ldots ,X_{n}$ be $n$ real-valued dependent random variables. With motivation from Mitra and Resnick (2009), we derive the tail asymptotic expansion for the weighted sum of order statistics $X_{1:n}\leq \cdots \leq X_{n:n}$ of $X_{1},\ldots ,X_{n}$ under the general case in which the distribution function of $X_{n:n}$ is long-tailed or rapidly varying and $% X_{1},\ldots ,X_{n}$ may not be comparable in terms of their tail probability. We also present two examples and an application of our results in risk theory.

Approximation of passage times of gamma-reflected processes with fBm input

Define a gamma-reflected process W_γ(t)=Y_H(t)-γ\inf_{s\in[0,t]}Y_H(s), t\ge0 with input process {Y_H(t), t\ge 0} which is a fractional Brownian motion with Hurst index H\in (0,1) and a negative linear trend. In risk theory {u-W_γ(t), t\ge 0} is referred to as the risk process with tax payments of a loss-carry-forward type. For various risk processes numerous results are known for the approximation of the first and last passage times to 0 (ruin times) when the initial reserve $u$ goes to infinity. In this paper we show that for the gamma-reflected process the conditional (standardized) first and last passage times are jointly asymptotically Gaussian and completely dependent. An important contribution of this paper is that it links ruin problems with extremes of non-homogeneous Gaussian random fields defined by Y_H which are also investigated in this contribution.

Extremal behavior of squared Bessel processes attracted by the Brown-Resnick process

The convergence of properly time-scaled and normalized maxima of independent standard Brownian motions to the Brown-Resnick process is well-known in the literature. Extremes of homogeneous Gaussian random fields

Let $\{X(s,t):s,t\geqslant 0\}$ be a centered homogeneous Gaussian field with a.s. continuous sample paths and correlation function $r(s,t)=Cov(X(s,t),X(0,0))$ such that \[r(s,t)=1-|s|^{α_1}-|t|^{α_2}+o(|s|^{α_1}+|t|^{α_2}), \quad s,t \to 0,\] with $α_1,α_2\in(0,2],$ and $r(s,t)<1$ for $(s,t)\neq(0,0)$. In this contribution we derive an exact asymptotic expansion (as $u\to \infty$) of $$\mathbb{P}\left(\sup_{(s n_1(u),t n_2(u))\in\left[0,x\right]\times\left[0,y\right]}X(s,t)\leqslant u\right),$$ where $n_1(u)n_2(u)=u^{2/α_1+2/α_2}Ψ(u)$, which holds uniformly for $(x,y) \in [ A , B ]^2$ with $ A , B $ two positive constants and $Ψ$ the survival function of an $N(0,1)$ random variable. We apply our findings to the analysis of asymptotics of extremes of homogeneous Gaussian fields over more complex parameter sets and a ball of random radius. Additionally we determine the extremal index of the discretised random field determined by $X(s,t)$.

This paper derives the exact asymptotic behavior of P{\sup_{t\in[0,T]} χ_n(t)>u} as u \to \infty, where $T$ is a given positive constant, and $g(\cdot)$ is some non-negative bounded measurable function. The case $g(t)\equiv0$ is investigated in numerous contributions by V.I. Piterbarg. Approximation of a random process with variable smoothness

We consider the rate of piecewise constant approximation to a locally stationary process $X(t),t\in [0,1]$, having a variable smoothness index $α(t)$. Assuming that $α(\cdot)$ attains its unique minimum at zero and satisfies the regularity condition, we propose a method for construction of observation points (composite dilated design) and find an asymptotics for the integrated mean square error, where a piecewise constant approximation $X_n$ is based on $N(n)\sim n$ observations of $X$. Further, we prove that the suggested approximation rate is optimal, and then show how to find an optimal constant.

Asymptotics of Random Contractions

In this paper we discuss the asymptotic behaviour of random contractions $X=RS$, where $R$, with distribution function $F$, is a positive random variable independent of $S\in (0,1)$. Random contractions appear naturally in insurance and finance. Our principal contribution is the derivation of the tail asymptotics of $X$ assuming that $F$ is in the max-domain of attraction of an extreme value distribution and the distribution function of $S$ satisfies a regular variation property. We apply our result to derive the asymptotics of the probability of ruin for a particular discrete-time risk model. Further we quantify in our asymptotic setting the effect of the random scaling on the Conditional Tail Expectations, risk aggregation, and derive the joint asymptotic distribution of linear combinations of random contractions.

Exact Asymptotics of Bivariate Scale Mixture Distributions

Let (RU_1, R U_2) be a given bivariate scale mixture random vector, with R>0 being independent of the bivariate random vector (U_1,U_2). As a special case of our results we retrieve the exact asymptotic behaviour of bivariate polar random vectors. We apply our results to investigate the asymptotic independence and the asymptotic behaviour of conditional excess for bivariate scale mixture distributions.

Let R be a positive random variable independent of S which is beta distributed. In this paper we are interested on the relation between the distribution function of R and that of RS. For this model we derive first some distributional properties, and then investigate the lower tail asymptotics of RS when R is regularly varying at 0, and vice-versa. Our first application concerns the asymptotic behaviour of the componentwise sample minima related to an elliptical distributions. Further, we derive the lower tails asymptotic of the aggregated risk for bivariate polar distributions.

Asymptotics of the Norm of Elliptical Random Vectors

In this paper we consider elliptical random vectors X in R^d,d>1 with stochastic representation A R U where R is a positive random radius independent of the random vector U which is uniformly distributed on the unit sphere of R^d and A is a given matrix. The main result of this paper is an asymptotic expansion of the tail probability of the norm of X derived under the assumption that R has distribution function is in the Gumbel or the Weibull max-domain of attraction.

Conditional Limits of W_p scale Mixture Distributions

In this paper we introduce the class of W_p scale mixture random vectors with a particular radial decomposition and a independent splitting property specified by some random variable W_p, and a positive constant p. We derive several conditional limit results assuming that the distribution of the random radius is in the max-domain of attraction of a univariate extreme value distribution and W_p has a certain tail asymptotic behaviour. As an application we obtain the joint asymptotic distribution of concomitants of order statics considering certain bivariate W_p scale miture samples.

Distribution and asymptotics under beta random scaling

Let X,Y,B be three independent random variables such that $X$ has the same distribution function as Y B. Assume that B is a Beta random variable with positive parameters a,b and Y has distribution function H. Pakes and Navarro (2007) show under some mild conditions that the distribution function H_{a,b} of X determines H. Based on that result we derive in this paper a recursive formula for calculation of H, if H_{a,b} is known. Furthermore, we investigate the relation between the tail asymptotic behaviour of X and Y. We present three applications of our asymptotic results concerning the extremes of two random samples with underlying distribution functions H and H_{a,b}, respectively, and the conditional limiting distribution of bivariate elliptical distributions.

On the residual dependence index of elliptical distributions

The residual dependence index of bivariate Gaussian distributions is determined by the correlation coefficient. This tail index is of certain statistical importance when extremes and related rare events of bivariate samples with asymptotic independent components are being modeled. In this paper we calculate the partial residual dependence indices of a multivariate elliptical random vector assuming that the associated random radius is in the Gumbel max-domain of attraction. Furthermore, we discuss the estimation of these indices when the associated random radius possesses a Weibull-tail distribution.

Asymptotics for Kotz Type III Elliptical Distributions

In this paper we derive the tail asymptotics of a Kotz Type III elliptical random vector. As an application of our asymptotic expansion we derive an approximation for the conditional excess distribution. Furthermore, we discuss the asymptotic dependence of Kotz Type III triangular arrays and provide some details on the estimation of conditional excess distribution and survivor function.

Boundary non-crossings of Brownian pillow

Let B_0(s,t) be a Brownian pillow with continuous sample paths, and let h,u:[0,1]^2\to R be two measurable functions. In this paper we derive upper and lower bounds for the boundary non-crossing probability ψ(u;h):=P{B_0(s,t)+h(s,t) \le u(s,t), \forall s,t\in [0,1]}. Further we investigate the asymptotic behaviour of $ψ(u;γh)$ with $γ$ tending to infinity, and solve a related minimisation problem.

Conditional Limit Results for Type I Polar Distributions

Let (S_1,S_2)=(R \cos(Θ), R \sin (Θ)) be a bivariate random vector with associated random radius R which has distribution function $F$ being further independent of the random angle Θ. In this paper we investigate the asymptotic behaviour of the conditional survivor probability Ψ_{ρ,u}(y):=\pk{ρS_1+ \sqrt{1- ρ^2} S_2> y \lvert S_1> u}, ρ\in (-1,1),\in R when u approaches the upper endpoint of F. On the density function of Θwe require a certain local asymptotic behaviour at 0, whereas for F we require that it belongs to the Gumbel max-domain of attraction. The main result of this contribution is an asymptotic expansion of Ψ_{ρ,u}, which is then utilised to construct two estimators for the conditional distribution function 1- Ψ_{ρ,u}. Further, we allow Θto depend on u.
