Weighted Graph-Based Signal Temporal Logic Inference Using Neural Networks

Extracting spatial-temporal knowledge from data is useful in many applications. It is important that the obtained knowledge is human-interpretable and amenable to formal analysis. In this paper, we propose a method that trains neural networks to learn spatial-temporal properties in the form of weighted graph-based signal temporal logic (wGSTL) formulas. For learning wGSTL formulas, we introduce a flexible wGSTL formula structure in which the user's preference can be applied in the inferred wGSTL formulas. In the proposed framework, each neuron of the neural networks corresponds to a subformula in a flexible wGSTL formula structure. We initially train a neural network to learn the wGSTL operators and then train a second neural network to learn the parameters in a flexible wGSTL formula structure. We use a COVID-19 dataset and a rain prediction dataset to evaluate the performance of the proposed framework and algorithms. We compare the performance of the proposed framework with three baseline classification methods including K-nearest neighbors, decision trees, support vector machine, and artificial neural networks. The classification accuracy obtained by the proposed framework is comparable with the baseline classification methods.

Superparamagnetism induced by polar nanoregions in relaxor ferroelectric (1$-$$x$)BiFeO$_{3}$-$x$BaTiO$_{3}$

A new class of superparamagnetism was found in relaxor ferroelectric 2/3BiFeO$_{3}$-1/3BaTiO$_{3}$. The size of the magnetic particle, estimated from the superparamagnetic magnetization curve, coincides with the size of the polar nanoregion (PNR), which governs the relaxor ferroelectric property. This suggests that the magnetic domain is identical to the PNR. The temperature variations in the sizes of the magnetic domains and PNRs estimated by our neutron diffraction measurements support this picture. Since the same domain provides both electric and magnetic properties, strong coupling between the two properties through the domain size is expected.

Monte Carlo Study of Relaxor Systems: A Minimum Model for Pb(In$_{1/2}$Nb$_{1/2}$)O$_3$}

We examine a simple model for Pb(In$_{1/2}$Nb$_{1/2}$)O$_3$ (PIN), which includes both long-range dipole-dipole interaction and random local anisotropy. A improved algorithm optimized for long-range interaction has been applied for efficient large-scale Monte Carlo simulation. We demonstrate that the phase diagram of PIN is qualitatively reproduced by this minimum model. Some properties characteristic of relaxors such as nano-scale domain formation, slow dynamics and dispersive dielectric responses are also examined.

Scaling relation of spin wave lifetime in double-exchange systems

Spin excitation spectrum of CMR manganites are studied from both theoretical and experimental sides. Scaling relations for the spin wave lifetime in the electronic model with double-exchange interaction is observed, which is consistent with results for neutron inelastic scattering experiments for (La,Y)$_{0.8}$Sr$_{0.2}$MnO$_3$. Roles of other interactions and degrees of freedom such as polaron effects are also discussed.
