A novel way of measuring the gas disk mass of protoplanetary disks using N2H+ and C18O

Measuring the gas mass of protoplanetary disks, the reservoir available for giant planet formation, has proven to be difficult. We currently lack a far-infrared observatory capable of observing HD, and the most common gas mass tracer, CO, suffers from a poorly constrained CO-to-H$_2$ ratio. Expanding on previous work, we investigate if N2H+, a chemical tracer of CO poor gas, can be used to observationally measure the CO-to-H$_2$ ratio and correct CO-based gas masses. Using disk structures obtained from the literature, we set up thermochemical models for three disks, TW Hya, DM Tau and GM Aur, to examine how well the CO-to-H$_2$ ratio and gas mass can be measured from N2H+ and C18O line fluxes. Furthermore, we compare these gas masses to independently gas masses measured from archival HD observations. The N2H+ (3-2)/C18O (2-1) line ratio scales with the disk CO-to-H$_2$ ratio. Using these two lines, we measure 4.6e-3 Msun < Mdisk < 1.1e-1 Msun for TW Hya, 1.5e-2 Msun < Mdisk < 9.6e-2 Msun for GM Aur and 3.1e-2 Msun < Mdisk < 9.6e-2 Msun for DM Tau. These gas masses agree with values obtained from HD within their respective uncertainties. The uncertainty on the N2H+ + C18O gas mass can be reduced by observationally constraining the cosmic ray ionization rate in disks. These results demonstrate the potential of using the combination of N2H+ and C18O to measure gas masses of protoplanetary disks.

Authenticated time for detecting GNSS attacks

Information cross-validation can be a powerful tool to detect manipulated, dubious GNSS data. A promising approach is to leverage time obtained over networks a mobile device can connect to, and detect discrepancies between the GNSS-provided time and the network time. The challenge lies in having reliably both accurate and trustworthy network time as the basis for the GNSS attack detection. Here, we provide a concrete proposal that leverages, together with the network time servers, the nearly ubiquitous IEEE 802.11 (Wi-Fi) infrastructure. Our framework supports application-layer, secure and robust real time broadcasting by Wi-Fi Access Points (APs), based on hash chains and infrequent digital signatures verification to minimize computational and communication overhead, allowing mobile nodes to efficiently obtain authenticated and rich time information as they roam. We pair this method with Network Time Security (NTS), for enhanced resilience through multiple sources, available, ideally, simultaneously. We analyze the performance of our scheme in a dedicated setup, gauging the overhead for authenticated time data (Wi-Fi timestamped beacons and NTS). The results show that it is possible to provide security for the external to GNSS time sources, with minimal overhead for authentication and integrity, even when the GNSS-equipped nodes are mobile, and thus have short interactions with the Wi-Fi infrastructure and possibly intermittent Internet connectivity, as well as limited resources.

On the c-differential spectrum of power functions over finite fields

Recently, a new concept called multiplicative differential was introduced by Ellingsen et al. Inspired by this pioneering work, power functions with low c-differential uniformity were constructed. Wang et al. defined the c-differential spectrum of a power function [27]. In this paper, we present some properties of the c-differential spectrum of a power function. Then we apply these properties to investigate the c-differential spectra of some power functions. A new class of APcN function is also obtained.

Protecting GNSS-based Services using Time Offset Validation

Global navigation satellite systems (GNSS) provide pervasive accurate positioning and timing services for a large gamut of applications, from Time based One-Time Passwords (TOPT), to power grid and cellular systems. However, there can be security concerns for the applications due to the vulnerability of GNSS. It is important to observe that GNSS receivers are components of platforms, in principle having rich connectivity to different network infrastructures. Of particular interest is the access to a variety of timing sources, as those can be used to validate GNSS-provided location and time. Therefore, we consider off-the-shelf platforms and how to detect if the GNSS receiver is attacked or not, by cross-checking the GNSS time and time from other available sources. First, we survey different technologies to analyze their availability, accuracy, and trustworthiness for time synchronization. Then, we propose a validation approach for absolute and relative time. Moreover, we design a framework and experimental setup for the evaluation of the results. Attacks can be detected based on WiFi supplied time when the adversary shifts the GNSS provided time, more than 23.942us; with Network Time Protocol (NTP) supplied time when the adversary-induced shift is more than 2.046ms. Consequently, the proposal significantly limits the capability of an adversary to manipulate the victim GNSS receiver.

Arbitrary cylindrical vector beam generation enabled by polarization-selective Gouy phase shifter

Cylindrical vector beams (CVBs), which possesses polarization distribution of rotational symmetry on the transverse plane, can be developed in many optical technologies. Conventional methods to generate CVBs contain redundant interferometers or need to switch among diverse elements, thus being inconvenient in applications containing multiple CVBs. Here we provide a passive polarization-selective device to substitute interferometers and simplify generation setup. It is accomplished by reversing topological charges of orbital angular momentum based on polarization-selective Gouy phase. In the process, tunable input light is the only condition to generate CVB with arbitrary topological charges. To cover both azimuthal and radial parameters of CVBs, we express the mapping between scalar Laguerre-Gaussian light on basic Poincaré sphere and CVB on high-order Poincaré sphere. The proposed device simplifies the generation of CVBs enormously, and thus has potentials in integrated devices for both quantum and classic optical experiments.

Evidence for $Z_{c}^{\pm}$ decays into the $ρ^{\pm} η_{c}$ final state

We study $e^{+}e^{-}$ collisions with a $π^{+}π^{-}π^{0}η_{c}$ final state using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s}=4.226$, $4.258$, $4.358$, $4.416$, and $4.600$ GeV. Evidence for the decay $\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac$ is reported with a statistical significance of $3.9σ$ with various systematic uncertainties taken into account at $\sqrt{s} = 4.226$ GeV, and the Born cross section times branching fraction $σ^{B}(\EE\to \pimp\zcpm)\times \BR(\zcpm\to\rhopm\etac)$ is measured to be $(48 \pm 11 \pm 11)\,\rm{pb}$. The $\zcpm\to \rhopm\etac$ signal is not significant at the other center-of-mass energies and the corresponding upper limits are determined. In addition, no significant signal is observed in a search for $\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm}\etac$ with the same data samples. The ratios $R_{\zc}=\BR(\zcpm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcpm\to π^{\pm} \jpsi)$ and $R_{\zcp}=\BR(\zcppm\to ρ^{\pm} \etac)/\BR(\zcppm\to π^{\pm} \hc)$ are obtained and used to discriminate between different theoretical interpretations of the $\zcpm$ and $\zcppm$.

GECAM detection of a bright type-I X-ray burst from 4U 0614+09: confirmation its spin frequency at 413 Hz

One month after launching Gravitational wave high-energy Electromagnetic Counterpart All-sky Monitor (GECAM), a bright thermonuclear X-ray burst from 4U~0614+09, was observed on January 24, 2021. We report the time-resolved spectroscopy of the burst and a burst oscillation detection at 413 Hz with a fractional amplitude 3.4\% (rms). This coincides with the burst oscillation previously discovered with \textit{Swift}/BAT \citep{Strohmayer2008}, and therefore confirms the spin frequency of this source. This burst is the brightest one in the normal bursts (except the superburst) ever detected from 4U~0614+09, which leads to an upper limit of distance estimation as 3.1 kpc. The folded light curve during the burst oscillation shows a multi-peak structure, which is the first case observed during a single burst oscillation in nonpulsating sources. The multi-peak profile could be due to additional harmonics of the burst oscillation, which is corresponding to several brighter/fainter spots at the stellar surface.

Observing Carbon & Oxygen Carriers in Protoplanetary Disks at Mid-infrared Wavelengths

Infrared observations probe the warm gas in the inner regions of planet-forming disks around young sun-like, T Tauri stars. In these systems, H$_2$O, OH, CO, CO$_2$, C$_2$H$_2$, and HCN have been widely observed. However, the potentially abundant carbon carrier CH$_4$ remains largely unconstrained. The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) will be able to characterize mid-infrared fluxes of CH$_4$ along with several other carriers of carbon and oxygen. In anticipation of the JWST mission, we model the physical and chemical structure of a T Tauri disk to predict the abundances and mid-infrared fluxes of observable molecules. A range of compositional scenarios are explored involving the destruction of refractory carbon materials and alterations to the total elemental (volatile and refractory) C/O ratio. Photon-driven chemistry in the inner disk surface layers largely destroys the initial carbon and oxygen carriers. This causes models with the same physical structure and C/O ratio to have similar steady state surface compositions, regardless of the initial chemical abundances. Initial disk compositions are better preserved in the shielded inner disk midplane. The degree of similarity between the surface and midplane compositions in the inner disk will depend on the characteristics of vertical mixing at these radii. Our modeled fluxes of observable molecules respond sensitively to changes in the disk gas temperature, inner radius, and the total elemental C/O ratio. As a result, mid-infrared observations of disks will be useful probes of these fundamental disk parameters, including the C/O ratio, which can be compared to values determined for planetary atmospheres.

Overall Spectral Properties of Prompt Emissions with Diverse Segments in Swift/BAT Short Gamma-ray Bursts

Owing to lack of multiple components of prompt $γ$-ray emissions in short gamma-ray bursts (sGRBs), how these distinct components are correlated still keeps unclear. In this paper, we investigate the spectral and temporal properties of precursors, main peaks and extended emissions in 26 sGRBs including GRB 170817A. It is found that peak energies ($E_p$) in each pulse are uncorrelated with the pulse duration ($t_{dur}$). Meanwhile, we find that there is no obvious correlation between peak energy and energy fluence. Interestingly, there is no obvious spectral evolution from earlier precursors to later extended emissions in view of the correlations of $t_{dur}$ with either the $E_p$ or the low energy spectrum index, $α$. A power-law correlation between the average flux ($F_{p}$) and the energy fluence ($S_γ$), $log F_p=(0.62\pm0.07) log S_γ+ (0.27\pm0.07)$, is found to exist in the individual segments instead of mean peaks previously. Furthermore, we also find that the main peaks are on average brighter than the precursors or the extend emissions about one order of magnitude. On the basis of all the above analyses, one can conclude that three emissive components would share the same radiation mechanisms but they might be dominated by diverse physical processes.

Remote Mesoscopic Signatures of Induced Magnetic Texture in Graphene

Mesoscopic conductance fluctuations are a ubiquitous signature of phase-coherent transport in small conductors, exhibiting universal character independent of system details. In this work, however, we demonstrate a pronounced breakdown of this universality, due to the interplay of local and remote phenomena in transport. Our experiments are performed in a graphene-based interaction-detection geometry, in which an artificial magnetic texture is induced in the graphene layer by covering a portion of it with a micromagnet. When probing conduction at some distance from this region, the strong influence of remote factors is manifested through the appearance of giant conductance fluctuations, with amplitude much larger than $e^2/h$. This violation of one of the fundamental tenets of mesoscopic physics dramatically demonstrates how local considerations can be overwhelmed by remote signatures in phase-coherent conductors

Search for oscillations of fundamental constants using molecular spectroscopy

A possible implication of an ultralight dark matter (UDM) field interacting wibeginth the Standard Model (SM) degrees of freedom is oscillations of fundamental constants. Here, we establish direct experimental bounds on the coupling of an oscillating UDM field to the up, down, and strange quarks and to the gluons, for oscillation frequencies between 10 Hz and 10^8 Hz. We employ spectroscopic experiments that take advantage of the dependence of molecular transition frequencies on the nuclear masses. Our results apply to previously unexplored frequency bands, and improve on existing bounds at frequencies > 5 MHz. We identify a sector of UDM - SM coupling space where the bounds from Equivalence Principle tests may be challenged by next-generation experiments of the present kind.

Testing the 10 spectrograph units for DESI: approach and results

The recently commissioned Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) will measure the expansion history of the Universe using the Baryon Acoustic Oscillation technique. The spectra of 35 million galaxies and quasars over 14000 sqdeg will be measured during the life of the experiment. A new prime focus corrector for the KPNO Mayall telescope delivers light to 5000 fiber optic positioners. The fibers in turn feed ten broad-band spectrographs. A consortium of Aix-Marseille University (AMU) and CNRS laboratories (LAM, OHP and CPPM) together with LPNHE (CNRS, IN2P3, Sorbonne Université and Université de Paris) and the WINLIGHT Systems company based in Pertuis (France), were in charge of integrating and validating the performance requirements of the ten full spectrographs, equipped with their cryostats, shutters and other mechanisms. We present a summary of our activity which allowed an efficient validation of the systems in a short-time schedule. We detail the main results. We emphasize the benefits of our approach and also its limitations.

Analysis of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}$

Using a data sample of $2.93~fb^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collisions collected at $\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV$ in the BESIII experiment, we perform an analysis of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}$. The Dalitz plot is analyzed using $1856\pm 45$ flavor-tagged signal decays. We find that the Dalitz plot is well described by a set of six resonances: $a_0(980)^0$, $a_0(980)^+$, $ϕ(1020)$, $a_2(1320)^+$, $a_2(1320)^-$ and $a_0(1450)^-$. Their magnitudes, phases and fit fractions are determined as well as the coupling of $a_0(980)$ to $K\bar{K}$, $g_{K\bar{K}}=3.77\pm 0.24\text{(stat.)}\pm0.35\text{(sys.)} GeV$. The branching fraction of the decay $D^0\rightarrow K_{S}^{0} K^{+} K^{-}$ is measured using $11660\pm 118$ untagged signal decays to be $(4.51\pm 0.05\text{(stat.)}\pm 0.16\text{(sys.)})10^{-3}$. Both measurements are limited by their systematic uncertainties.

Cross section measurement of $e^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ$ from $\sqrt{s} = 4.178$ to $4.600$ GeV

The cross section of the process $e^+e^- \rightarrow η'J/ψ$ is measured at center-of-mass energies from $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.178 to 4.600 GeV using data samples corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of 11 fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring. The dependence of the cross section on $\sqrt{s}$ shows an enhancement around $4.2$ GeV. While the shape of the cross section cannot be fully explained with a single $ψ(4160)$ or $ψ(4260)$ state, a coherent sum of the two states does provide a reasonable description of the data.

Determination of strong-phase parameters in $D\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$

We report the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ decays to $K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ using a sample of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider. Our results provide the key inputs for a binned model-independent determination of the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ/ϕ_3$ with $B$ decays. Using our results, the decay model sensitivity to the $γ/ϕ_3$ measurement is expected to be between 0.7$^{\circ}$ and 1.2$^{\circ}$, approximately a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. The improved precision of this work ensures that measurements of $γ/ϕ_3$ will not be limited by knowledge of strong phases for the next decade. Furthermore, our results provide critical input for other flavor-physics investigations, including charm mixing, other measurements of $CP$ violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other $D$-decay modes.

Future Physics Programme of BESIII

There has recently been a dramatic renewal of interest in the subjects of hadron spectroscopy and charm physics. This renaissance has been driven in part by the discovery of a plethora of charmonium-like $XYZ$ states at BESIII and $B$ factories, and the observation of an intriguing proton-antiproton threshold enhancement and the possibly related $X(1835)$ meson state at BESIII, as well as the threshold measurements of charm mesons and charm baryons. We present a detailed survey of the important topics in tau-charm physics and hadron physics that can be further explored at BESIII over the remaining lifetime of BEPCII operation. This survey will help in the optimization of the data-taking plan over the coming years, and provides physics motivation for the possible upgrade of BEPCII to higher luminosity.

Measurement of {\boldmath $J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}$} and evidence for the radiative decay {\boldmath $Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^-$}

The SU(3)-flavor violating decay $J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c.$ is studied using $(1310.6\pm7.0)\times 10^{6} ~J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII and the branching fraction is measured to be ${\cal{B}}(J/ψ\toΞ(1530)^{-}\barΞ^{+}+c.c.)=(3.17\pm0.02_{\rm stat.}\pm0.08_{\rm syst.})\times10^{-4}$. This is consistent with previous measurements with an improved precision. The angular parameter for this decay is measured for the first time and is found to be $α=-0.21\pm0.04_{\rm stat.}\pm0.06_{\rm syst.}$. In addition, we report evidence for the radiative decay $Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- $ with a significance of 3.9$σ$, including the systematic uncertainties. The 90\% confidence level upper limit on the branching fraction is determined to be $\mathcal{B}(Ξ(1530)^{-}\toγΞ^- )\leq3.7$\%.

Measurement of proton electromagnetic form factors in $e^+e^- \to p\bar{p}$ in the energy region 2.00-3.08 GeV

The process of $e^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p}$ is studied at 22 center-of-mass energy points ($\sqrt{s}$) from 2.00 to 3.08 GeV, exploiting 688.5~pb$^{-1}$ of data collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section~($σ_{p\bar{p}}$) of $e^+e^- \rightarrow p\bar{p}$ is measured with the energy-scan technique and it is found to be consistent with previously published data, but with much improved accuracy. In addition, the electromagnetic form-factor ratio ($|G_{E}/G_{M}|$) and the value of the effective ($|G_{\rm{eff}}|$), electric ($|G_E|$) and magnetic ($|G_M|$) form factors are measured by studying the helicity angle of the proton at 16 center-of-mass energy points. $|G_{E}/G_{M}|$ and $|G_M|$ are determined with high accuracy, providing uncertainties comparable to data in the space-like region, and $|G_E|$ is measured for the first time. We reach unprecedented accuracy, and precision results in the time-like region provide information to improve our understanding of the proton inner structure and to test theoretical models which depend on non-perturbative Quantum Chromodynamics.

Measurement of the cross section for $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ and observation of an excited $Ξ$ baryon

Using a total of 11.0 fb$^{-1}$ of $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data with center-of-mass energies between 4.009 GeV and 4.6 GeV and collected with the BESIII detector at BEPCII, we measure fifteen exclusive cross sections and effective form factors for the process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ by means of a single baryon-tag method. After performing a fit to the dressed cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$, no significant $ψ(4230)$ or $ψ(4260)$ resonance is observed in the $Ξ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ final states, and upper limits at the 90\% confidence level on $Γ_{ee}\mathcal{B}$ for the processes $ψ(4230)$/$ψ(4260)\rightarrowΞ^{-}\barΞ^{+}$ are determined. In addition, an excited $Ξ$ baryon at 1820 MeV/$c^{2}$ is observed with a statistical significance of 6.2 $\sim$ 6.5$σ$ by including the systematic uncertainty, and the mass and width are measured to be $M = (1825.5 \pm 4.7 \pm 4.7)$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and $Γ= (17.0 \pm 15.0 \pm 7.9)$~MeV, which confirms the existence of the $J^{P}=\frac{3}{2}^{-}$ state $Ξ(1820)$.

Model-independent determination of the relative strong-phase difference between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ and its impact on the measurement of the CKM angle $γ/ϕ_3$

Crucial inputs for a variety of $CP$-violation studies can be determined through the analysis of pairs of quantum-entangled neutral $D$ mesons, which are produced in the decay of the $ψ(3770)$ resonance. The relative strong-phase parameters between $D^0$ and $\bar{D}^0$ in the decays $D^0\rightarrow K^0_{S,L}π^+π^-$ are studied using 2.93~${\rm fb}^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ annihilation data delivered by the BEPCII collider and collected by the BESIII detector at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV. Results are presented in regions of the phase space of the decay. These are the most precise measurements to date of the strong-phase parameters in $D \to K_{S,L}^0π^+π^-$ decays. Using these parameters, the associated uncertainty on the Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa angle $γ/ϕ_3$ is expected to be between $0.7^\circ$ and $1.2^\circ$, for an analysis using the decay $B^{\pm}\rightarrow DK^{\pm}$, $D\rightarrow K^0_Sπ^+π^-$, where $D$ represents a superposition of $D^0$ and $\bar{D^0}$ states. This is a factor of three smaller than that achievable with previous measurements. Furthermore, these results provide valuable input for charm-mixing studies, other measurements of $CP$ violation, and the measurement of strong-phase parameters for other $D$-decay modes.

Observation of a cross-section enhancement near mass threshold in $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$

The process $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrowΛ\barΛ$ is studied using data samples at $\sqrt{s}=2.2324$, 2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider. The Born cross section is measured at $\sqrt{s}$=2.2324 GeV, which is 1.0 MeV above the $Λ\barΛ$ mass threshold, to be $305\pm45^{+66}_{-36}$ pb, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second systematic. The substantial cross section near threshold is significantly larger than that expected from theory, which predicts the cross section to vanish at threshold. The Born cross sections at $\sqrt{s}$=2.400, 2.800 and 3.080 GeV are measured and found to be consistent with previous experimental results, but with improved precision. Finally, the corresponding effective electromagnetic form factors of $Λ$ are deduced.

Partial wave analysis of $ψ(3686)\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}η$

Using a sample of $(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^6$ $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector, we perform the first partial wave analysis of $ψ(3686)\rightarrow K^+K^-η$. In addition to the well established states, $ϕ(1020)$, $ϕ(1680)$, and $K_3^*(1780)$, contributions from $X(1750)$, $ρ(2150)$, $ρ_3(2250)$, and $K^*_2(1980)$ are also observed. Properties of Short GRB Pulses in the Fourth BATSE Catalog: Implications for Structure and Evolution of the Jetted Outflows

Considering the shortage of comparative studies on pulse temporal characteristics between single-peaked short gamma-ray bursts (sGRBs) and double-peaked sGRBs, we examine the pulse properties of a sample of 100 BATSE sGRBs using the BATSE Time-Tagged Event (TTE) data with a 5-ms resolution. 243 individual pulses of the single-peaked, double-peaked and triple-peaked sGRBs are fitted to get their statistical properties such as the pulse asymmetry, amplitude, peak time, and pulse width, etc. For the double-peaked sGRBs, according to the overlapping ratio between two adjacent peaks, we first define two kinds of double-peaked sGRBs as M-loose and M-tight types and find that most of the first pulses are similar to the single-peaked ones. We study the dependence of the Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM) on the photon energy among different energy bands. Interestingly, it is found that a power-law relation with an index of -0.4 does exist between the FWHM and the photon energy for the single- and double-peaked sGRBs. More interestingly, we notice that the power-law relation with a positive index also exist for several special short bursts. In view of the three typical timescales of pulses, namely the angular spreading timescale, the dynamic timescale, and the cooling timescale, we propose that the diverse power-law indexes together with the profile evolution of GRB pulse can be used as an effective probe to diagnose the structure and evolution of the relativistically jetted outflows.

SDSS IV MaNGA -- Metallicity and ionisation parameter in local star-forming galaxies from Bayesian fitting to photoionisation models

We measured gas-phase metallicity, ionisation parameter and dust extinction for 1795 representative local star-forming galaxies using integral field spectroscopy from the SDSS-IV MaNGA survey. We self-consistently derive these quantities by comparing observed line fluxes with photoionisation models using a Bayesian framework. We also present the first comprehensive study of the [SIII]$λλ$9069,9532 nebular lines, which have long been predicted to be ideal tracers of the ionisation parameter. Unfortunately, we find that current photoionisation models substantially over-predict [SIII] lines intensity, while broadly reproducing other observed optical line ratios. We discuss how to nonetheless make use of the information provided by [SIII] lines by setting a prior on the ionisation parameter. Following this approach, we derive spatially-resolved maps and radial profiles of metallicity and ionisation parameter. The metallicity radial profiles are comparable with previous works, with metallicity declining toward the outer parts and a flattening in the central regions, in agreement with infall models of galaxy formation, that predict that spiral discs build up through accretion of material, which leads to an inside-out growth. On the other hand, ionisation parameter radial profiles are flat for low-mass galaxies, while their slope becomes positive as galaxy mass increases. However, the ionisation parameter maps we obtain are clumpy, especially for low-mass galaxies. Ionisation parameter is tightly correlated with the H$α$ equivalent width [EW(H$α$)], following a nearly universal relation, which we attribute to the change of the spectral shape of ionising sources due to ageing of HII regions. We derive a positive correlation between ionisation parameter and metallicity at fixed EW(H$α$), in disagreement with previous theoretical works expecting an anti-correlation.

String monopoles, string walls, vortex-skyrmions and nexus objects in polar distorted B-phase of $^3$He

The composite cosmological objects -- Kibble-Lazarides-Shafi (KLS) walls bounded by strings and cosmic strings terminated by Nambu monopoles -- could be produced during the phase transitions in the early Universe. Recent experiments in superfluid $^3$He reproduced the formation of the KLS domain walls, which opened the new arena for the detailed study of those objects in human controlled system with different characteristic lengths. These composite defects are formed by two successive symmetry breaking phase transitions. In the first transition the strings are formed, then in the second transition the string becomes the termination line of the KLS wall. In the same manner, in the first transition monopoles are formed, and then in the second transition these monopoles become the termination points of strings. Here we show that in the vicinity of the second transition the composite defects can be described by relative homotopy groups. This is because there are two well separated length scales involved, which give rise to two different classes of the degenerate vacuum states, $R_1$ and $R_2$, and the composite objects correspond to the nontrivial elements of the group $π_n(R_1,R_2)$. We discuss this on example of the so-called polar distorted B phase, which is formed in the two-step phase transition in liquid $^3$He distorted by aerogel. In this system the string monopoles terminate spin vortices with even winding number, while KLS string walls terminate on half quantum vortices. In the presence of magnetic field, vortex-skyrmions are formed, and the string monopole transforms to the nexus. We also discuss the integer-valued topological invariants of those objects. Our consideration can be applied to the composite defects in other condensed matter and cosmological systems.

We demonstrated crystal structures, magnetic, optical, and photocatalytic properties of the B-site substituted double perovskite Ba$_{2}$Pr(Bi$_{1-x}$Sb$_{x}$)O$_{6}$ ($x$=0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5 and 1.0) synthesized by the citrate pyrolysis method. The single-phase polycrystalline samples with the light Sb substitution crystallized in a monoclinic structure ($I2/m$). Magnetization measurements on all the samples showed that the effective magnetic moments are located around 3 $μ_{B}$ , indicating the valence mixing states between Pr$^{3+}$ and Pr$^{4+}$.The magnitudes of band gap energy for the two end member samples were estimated from the optical measurements to be $E_{g}$ =1.06 eV at $x$=0 and 2.71 eV at $x$=1.0. The Ba$_{2}$Pr(Bi$_{1-x}$Sb$_{x}$)O$_{6}$ ($x$=0, and 0.1) powders obtained by the present technique exhibited enhanced photocatalytic activities when compared to the same compounds prepared by the conventional solid state method. Our findings suggest that the higher photocatalytic activities strongly depend on powder preparation method as well as the band gaps and charge separation.

Study of $e^{+}e^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-} $ at center-of-mass energies from 4.36 to 4.60 GeV

We report a study of the $e^{+}e^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ process using $e^{+}e^{-}$ collision data samples with an integrated luminosity of $2.5\,\rm{fb}^{-1}$ at center-of-mass energies from 4.36 to $4.60 \rm{GeV}$, collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. The $D_{1}(2420)^+$ is observed in the $D^{+} π^{+} π^{-}$ mass spectrum. The mass and width of the $D_{1}(2420)^+$ are measured to be $(2427.2\pm 1.0_{\rm stat.}\pm 1.2_{\rm syst.}) \rm{MeV}/c^2$ and $(23.2\pm 2.3_{\rm stat.} \pm2.3_{\rm syst.}) \rm{MeV}$, respectively. The first errors are statistical and the second ones are systematic. In addition, the Born cross sections of the $e^{+}e^{-} \to D_{1}(2420)^+D^- + c.c. \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ and $e^{+}e^{-} \to ψ(3770) π^{+} π^{-} \to D^{+} D^{-} π^{+} π^{-}$ processes are measured as a function of the center-of-mass energy.

Observation of the decays $χ_{cJ} \to ϕϕη$

Using a data sample of $(448.1\pm2.9)\times10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ decays collected by the BESIII detector at the Beijing Electron Positron Collider (BEPCII), we observe the decays $χ_{cJ}\to ϕϕη~(J=0,~1,~2)$, where the $χ_{cJ}$ are produced via the radiative processes $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}$. The branching fractions are measured to be $\mathcal B(χ_{c0}\toϕϕη)=(8.41\pm0.74\pm0.62)\times10^{-4}$, $\mathcal B(χ_{c1}\toϕϕη)=(2.96\pm0.43\pm0.22)\times 10^{-4}$, and $\mathcal B(χ_{c2} \to ϕϕη)=(5.33\pm0.52\pm0.39) \times 10^{-4}$, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. We also search for intermediate states in the $ϕϕ$ or $ηϕ$ combinations, but no significant structure is seen due to the limited statistics.

Half-quantum vortices and walls bounded by strings in the polar-distorted phases of topological superfluid $^3$He

Symmetries of the physical world have guided formulation of fundamental laws, including relativistic quantum field theory and understanding of possible states of matter. Topological defects (TDs) often control the universal behavior of macroscopic quantum systems, while topology and broken symmetries determine allowed TDs. Taking advantage of the symmetry-breaking patterns in the phase diagram of nanoconfined superfluid $^3$He, we show that half-quantum vortices (HQVs) -- linear topological defects carrying half quantum of circulation -- survive transitions from the polar phase to other superfluid phases with polar distortion. In the polar-distorted A phase, HQV cores in 2D systems should harbor non-Abelian Majorana modes. In the polar-distorted B phase, HQVs form composite defects -- walls bounded by strings hypothesized decades ago in cosmology. Our experiments establish the superfluid phases of $^3$He in nanostructured confinement as a promising topological media for further investigations ranging from topological quantum computing to cosmology and grand unification scenarios.

Reemergence of high-Tc superconductivity in the (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe under high pressure

The pressure-induced reemergence of the second high-Tc superconducting phase (SC-II) in the alkali-metal intercalated AxFe2-ySe2 (A = K, Rb, Cs, Tl) remains an enigma and proper characterizations on the superconducting- and normal-state properties of the SC-II phase were hampered by the intrinsic inhomogeneity and phase separation. To elucidate this intriguing problem, we performed a detailed high-pressure magnetotransport study on the recently discovered (Li1-xFex)OHFe1-ySe single crystals, which have high Tc~40 K and share similar Fermi surface topology as AxFe2-ySe2, but are free from the sample complications. We found that the ambient-pressure Tc~41 K is suppressed gradually to below 2 K upon increasing pressure to Pc ~5 GPa, above which a SC-II phase with higher Tc emerges and the Tc increases progressively to above 50 K up to 12.5 GPa. Interestingly, our high-precision resistivity data enable us to uncover the sharp transition of the normal state from a Fermi liquid for SC-I phase (0 < P < 5 GPa) to a non-Fermi-liquid for SC-II phase (P > 5GPa). In addition, the reemergence of high-Tc SC-II phase is found to accompany with a concurrent enhancement of electron carrier density. Since high-pressure structural study based on the synchrotron X-ray diffraction rules out the structural transition below 10 GPa, the observed SC-II phase with enhanced carrier density should be ascribed to an electronic origin associated with a pressure-induced Fermi surface reconstruction.

Improved measurement of the absolute branching fraction of $D^{+}\rightarrow \bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ$

By analyzing 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ of data collected at $\sqrt s=3.773$ GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the absolute branching fraction ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=(8.72 \pm 0.07_{\rm stat.} \pm 0.18_{\rm sys.})\%$, which is consistent with previous measurements within uncertainties but with significantly improved precision. Combining the Particle Data Group values of ${\mathcal B}(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)$, ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})$, and the lifetimes of the $D^0$ and $D^+$ mesons with the value of ${\mathcal B}(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)$ measured in this work, we determine the following ratios of partial widths: $Γ(D^0\to K^-μ^+ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0μ^{+}ν_μ)=0.963\pm0.044$ and $Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 μ^{+}ν_μ)/Γ(D^{+}\rightarrow\bar K^0 e^{+}ν_{e})=0.988\pm0.033$.

Measurement of azimuthal asymmetries in inclusive charged dipion production in $e^+e^-$ annihilations at $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.65 GeV

We present a measurement of the azimuthal asymmetries of two charged pions in the inclusive process $e^+e^-\rightarrow ππX$ based on a data set of 62 $\rm{pb}^{-1}$ at the center-of-mass energy $\sqrt{s}=3.65$ GeV collected with the BESIII detector. These asymmetries can be attributed to the Collins fragmentation function. We observe a nonzero asymmetry, which increases with increasing pion momentum. As our energy scale is close to that of the existing semi-inclusive deep inelastic scattering experimental data, the measured asymmetries are important inputs for the global analysis of extracting the quark transversity distribution inside the nucleon and are valuable to explore the energy evolution of the spin-dependent fragmentation function.

Measurement of the $D_s^+ \to \ell^+ν_\ell$ branching fractions and the decay constant $f_{D_s^+}$

Using 482~pb$^{-1}$ of $e^+e^-$ collision data collected at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s} = 4.009$ GeV with the BESIII detector, we measure the branching fractions of the decays $D_s^+\toμ^+ν_μ$ and $D_s^+\toτ^+ν_τ$. By constraining the ratio of decay rates of $D_s^+$ to $τ^+ν_τ$ and to $μ^+ν_μ$ to the Standard Model prediction, the branching fractions are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to μ^+ν_μ) = (0.495 \pm 0.067 \pm 0.026)\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_s^+ \to τ^+ν_τ) = (4.83 \pm 0.65 \pm 0.26)\%$. Using these branching fractions, we obtain a value for the decay constant $f_{D_s^+}$ of $(241.0 \pm 16.3 \pm 6.5)~\text{MeV}$, where the first error is statistical and the second systematic.

Observation of $e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c1,2}$ near $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.42 and 4.6 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII storage ring at center-of-mass energies $\sqrt{s} >$ 4.4 GeV, the processes $e^+e^- \rightarrow ωχ_{c1,2}$ are observed for the first time. With an integrated luminosity of $1074 pb^{-1}$ near $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.42 GeV, a significant $ωχ_{c2}$ signal is found, and the cross section is measured to be $(20.9 \pm 3.2 \pm 2.5)\pb$. With $567 pb^{-1}$ near $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.6 GeV, a clear $ωχ_{c1}$ signal is seen, and the cross section is measured to be $(9.5 \pm 2.1 \pm 1.3) \pb$, while evidence is found for an $ωχ_{c2}$ signal. The first errors are statistical and the second are systematic. Due to low luminosity or low cross section at other energies, no significant signals are observed. In the $ωχ_{c2}$ cross section, an enhancement is seen around $\sqrt{s} =$ 4.42 GeV. Fitting the cross section with a coherent sum of the $ψ(4415)$ Breit-Wigner function and a phase space term, the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(ψ(4415)\toωχ_{c2})$ is obtained to be of the order of $10^{-3}$.

Observation of an anomalous line shape of the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ mass spectrum near the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold in $J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$

Using $1.09\times10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ events collected by the BESIII experiment in 2012, we study the $J/ψ\rightarrowγη^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ process and observe a significant abrupt change in the slope of the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ invariant mass distribution at the proton-antiproton ($p\bar{p}$) mass threshold. We use two models to characterize the $η^{\prime}π^{+}π^{-}$ line shape around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$: one which explicitly incorporates the opening of a decay threshold in the mass spectrum (Flatté formula), and another which is the coherent sum of two resonant amplitudes. Both fits show almost equally good agreement with data, and suggest the existence of either a broad state around $1.85~\text{GeV}/c^{2}$ with strong couplings to $p\bar{p}$ final states or a narrow state just below the $p\bar{p}$ mass threshold. Although we cannot distinguish between the fits, either one supports the existence of a $p\bar{p}$ molecule-like state or bound state with greater than $7σ$ significance.

Results of the partial wave analysis show that the structures are predominantly $0^{-+}$ states. The existence of the $η(2225)$ is confirmed, and its resonance parameters are measured. Two additional pseudoscalar states, the $η(2100)$ with a mass of $2050_{-24}^{+30}{}_{-26}^{+75}$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $250_{-30}^{+36}{}_{-164}^{+181}$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and the $X(2500)$ with a mass of $2470_{-19}^{+15}{}_{-23}^{+101}$~MeV/$c^{2}$ and a width of $230_{-35}^{+64}{}_{-33}^{+56}$~MeV/$c^{2}$, are observed. In addition to these three pseudoscalar states, the scalar state $f_0(2100)$, and three tensor states, the $f_2(2010)$, $f_2(2300)$ and $f_2(2340)$, are observed in the process $J/ψ\rightarrow γϕϕ$. The Detector System of The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment

The Daya Bay experiment was the first to report simultaneous measurements of reactor antineutrinos at multiple baselines leading to the discovery of $\barν_e$ oscillations over km-baselines. Subsequent data has provided the world's most precise measurement of $\rm{sin}^22θ_{13}$ and the effective mass splitting $Δm_{ee}^2$. The experiment is located in Daya Bay, China where the cluster of six nuclear reactors is among the world's most prolific sources of electron antineutrinos. Multiple antineutrino detectors are deployed in three underground water pools at different distances from the reactor cores to search for deviations in the antineutrino rate and energy spectrum due to neutrino mixing. Instrumented with photomultiplier tubes (PMTs), the water pools serve as shielding against natural radioactivity from the surrounding rock and provide efficient muon tagging. Arrays of resistive plate chambers over the top of each pool provide additional muon detection. The antineutrino detectors were specifically designed for measurements of the antineutrino flux with minimal systematic uncertainty. Relative detector efficiencies between the near and far detectors are known to better than 0.2%. With the unblinding of the final two detectors' baselines and target masses, a complete description and comparison of the eight antineutrino detectors can now be presented. This paper describes the Daya Bay detector systems, consisting of eight antineutrino detectors in three instrumented water pools in three underground halls, and their operation through the first year of eight detector data-taking.

An amplitude analysis of the $π^{0}π^{0}$ system produced in radiative $J/ψ$ decays

An amplitude analysis of the $π^{0}π^{0}$ system produced in radiative $J/ψ$ decays is presented. In particular, a piecewise function that describes the dynamics of the $π^{0}π^{0}$ system is determined as a function of $M_{π^{0}π^{0}}$ from an analysis of the $(1.311\pm0.011)\times10^{9}$ $J/ψ$ decays collected by the BESIII detector. The goal of this analysis is to provide a description of the scalar and tensor components of the $π^0π^0$ system while making minimal assumptions about the properties or number of poles in the amplitude. Such a model-independent description allows one to integrate these results with other related results from complementary reactions in the development of phenomenological models, which can then be used to directly fit experimental data to obtain parameters of interest. The branching fraction of $J/ψ\to γπ^{0}π^{0}$ is determined to be $(1.15\pm0.05)\times10^{-3}$, where the uncertainty is systematic only and the statistical uncertainty is negligible.

With full reconstruction of the $D$ meson pair and the bachelor $π^{\pm}$ in the final state, we confirm the existence of the charged structure $Z_c(3885)^{\mp}$ in the $(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp}$ system in the two isospin processes $e^+e^-\toπ^+D^0D^{*-}$ and $e^+e^-\toπ^+D^-D^{*0}$. By performing a simultaneous fit, the statistical significance of $Zc(3885)^{\mp}$ signal is determined to be greater than 10$σ$, and its pole mass and width are measured to be $M_{\rm{pole}}$=(3881.7$\pm$1.6(stat.)$\pm$1.6(syst.))~MeV/$c^2$ and $Γ_{\rm{pole}}$=(26.6$\pm$2.0(stat.)$\pm$2.1(syst.))~MeV, respectively. The Born cross section times the $(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp}$ branching fraction ($σ(e^+e^-\toπ^{\pm}Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}) \times Br(Z_{c}(3885)^{\mp}\to(D\bar{D}^*)^{\mp})$) is measured to be $(141.6\pm7.9(\text{stat.})\pm12.3(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb}$ at $\sqrt{s}=4.23$~GeV and $(108.4\pm6.9(\text{stat.})\pm8.8(\text{syst.}))~\text{pb}$ at $\sqrt{s}=4.26$~GeV. JUNO Conceptual Design Report

The Jiangmen Underground Neutrino Observatory (JUNO) is proposed to determine the neutrino mass hierarchy using an underground liquid scintillator detector. It is located 53 km away from both Yangjiang and Taishan Nuclear Power Plants in Guangdong, China. The experimental hall, spanning more than 50 meters, is under a granite mountain of over 700 m overburden. Within six years of running, the detection of reactor antineutrinos can resolve the neutrino mass hierarchy at a confidence level of 3-4$σ$, and determine neutrino oscillation parameters $\sin^2θ_{12}$, $Δm^2_{21}$, and $|Δm^2_{ee}|$ to an accuracy of better than 1%. The JUNO detector can be also used to study terrestrial and extra-terrestrial neutrinos and new physics beyond the Standard Model. The central detector contains 20,000 tons liquid scintillator with an acrylic sphere of 35 m in diameter. $\sim$17,000 508-mm diameter PMTs with high quantum efficiency provide $\sim$75% optical coverage. The current choice of the liquid scintillator is: linear alkyl benzene (LAB) as the solvent, plus PPO as the scintillation fluor and a wavelength-shifter (Bis-MSB). The number of detected photoelectrons per MeV is larger than 1,100 and the energy resolution is expected to be 3% at 1 MeV. The calibration system is designed to deploy multiple sources to cover the entire energy range of reactor antineutrinos, and to achieve a full-volume position coverage inside the detector. The veto system is used for muon detection, muon induced background study and reduction. It consists of a Water Cherenkov detector and a Top Tracker system. The readout system, the detector control system and the offline system insure efficient and stable data acquisition and processing.

The measured branching fraction of $ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c1}$ is $\mathcal B(ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c1})=(2.48 \pm 0.15 \pm 0.23) \times 10^{-3}$, which is the most precise measurement to date. The upper limit on the branching fraction of $ψ(3770)\rightarrow γχ_{c2}$ at a $90\%$ confidence level is $\mathcal B(ψ(3770) \rightarrow γχ_{c2})<0.64 \times 10^{-3}$. The corresponding partial widths are $Γ(ψ(3770) \to γχ_{c1}) =(67.5\pm 4.1\pm 6.7)$~keV and $Γ(ψ(3770) \to γχ_{c2}) < 17.4$~keV.

Measurement of $y_{CP}$ in $D^0-\overline{D}^0$ oscillation using quantum correlations in $e^+e^-\to D^0\overline{D}^0$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.773\,GeV

We report a measurement of the parameter $y_{CP}$ in $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace-\ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ oscillations performed by taking advantage of quantum coherence between pairs of $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ mesons produced in $e^+e^-$ annihilations near threshold. In this work, doubly-tagged $\ensuremath{D^0}\xspace \ensuremath{\overline{D}^{0}}\xspace$ events, where one $D$ decays to a $CP$ eigenstate and the other $D$ decays in a semileptonic mode, are reconstructed using a data sample of 2.92\,fb$^{-1}$ collected with the BESIII detector at the center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}$ = 3.773\,GeV. We obtain $y_{CP} = (-2.0\pm1.3\pm0.7)\%$, where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. This result is compatible with the current world average.

Measurement of the $\mathrm e^+\mathrm e^-\rightarrow\mathrmπ^+\mathrmπ^-$ Cross Section between 600 and 900 MeV Using Initial State Radiation

We extract the $e^+e^-\rightarrow π^+π^-$ cross section in the energy range between 600 and 900 MeV, exploiting the method of initial state radiation. A data set with an integrated luminosity of 2.93 fb$^{-1}$ taken at a center-of-mass energy of 3.773 GeV with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider is used. The cross section is measured with a systematic uncertainty of 0.9%. We extract the pion form factor $|F_π|^2$ as well as the contribution of the measured cross section to the leading order hadronic vacuum polarization contribution to $(g-2)_μ$. We find this value to be $a_μ^{ππ,\rm LO}(600-900\;\rm MeV) = (368.2 \pm 2.5_{\rm stat} \pm 3.3_{\rm sys})\cdot 10^{-10}$.

Measurement of the $e^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ$ cross section and search for $e^{+}e^{-} \to π^{0} J/ψ$ at center-of-mass energies between 3.810 and 4.600~GeV

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector operating at the BEPCII collider at center-of-mass energies from 3.810 to 4.600 GeV, we perform a study of $e^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ$ and $π^0 J/ψ$. Statistically significant signals of $e^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ$ are observed at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.190, 4.210, 4.220, 4.230, 4.245, 4.260, 4.360 and 4.420 GeV, while no signals of $e^{+}e^{-} \to π^{0} J/ψ$ are observed. The measured energy-dependent Born cross section for $e^{+}e^{-} \to ηJ/ψ$ shows an enhancement around 4.2~GeV. The measurement is compatible with an earlier measurement by Belle, but with a significantly improved precision.

Measurement of the branching fractions of $D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'X$ and $D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+}$ in $e^+e^-\to D^+_{s}D^-_{s}$

We study $D_{s}^{+}$ decays to final states involving the $η'$ with a 482$\,$pb$^{-1}$ data sample collected at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.009$\,$GeV with the \mbox{BESIII} detector at the BEPCII collider. We measure the branching fractions $\mathcal{B}(D^+_{s}\rightarrow η'X)$ = (8.8$\pm$1.8$\pm$0.5)$\%$ and $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+})$ = ($5.8\pm1.4\pm0.4$)$\%$ where the first uncertainty is statistical and the second is systematic. In addition, we estimate an upper limit on the non-resonant branching ratio $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'π^+π^0)<5.1\%$ at the 90$\%$ confidence level. Our results are consistent with CLEO's recent measurements and help to resolve the disagreement between the theoretical prediction and CLEO's previous measurement of $\mathcal{B}(D_{s}^{+}\rightarrow η'ρ^{+})$.

Using 2.92 fb$^{-1}$ of electron-positron annihilation data collected at a center-of-mass energy of $\sqrt{s}= 3.773$ GeV with the BESIII detector, we present an improved measurement of the branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to ωe^+ ν_{e}) = (1.63\pm0.11\pm0.08)\times 10^{-3}$. The parameters defining the corresponding hadronic form factor ratios at zero momentum transfer are determined for the first time, we measure them to be $r_V = 1.24\pm0.09\pm0.06$ and $r_2 = 1.06\pm0.15 \pm 0.05$. The first and second uncertainties are statistical and systematic, respectively. We also search for the decay $D^+ \to ϕe^+ ν_{e}$. Measurement of the Matrix Elements for the Decays $η\rightarrow π^{+}π^{-}π^0$ and $η/η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0$

Based on a sample of $1.31 \times 10^9$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, Dalitz plot analyses of selected 79,625 $η\rightarrowπ^{+}π^{-}π^0$ events, 33,908 $η\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0$ events and 1,888 $η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0$ events are performed. The measured matrix elements of $η\rightarrowπ^+π^-π^0$ are in reasonable agreement with previous measurements. The Dalitz plot slope parameters of $η\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0$ and $η^{\prime}\rightarrowπ^0π^0π^0$ are determined to be $-0.055 \pm 0.014 \pm 0.004$ and $-0.640 \pm 0.046 \pm 0.047$, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. Measurement of the proton form factor by studying $e^{+} e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}$

Using data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we measure the Born cross section of $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow p\bar{p}$ at 12 center-of-mass energies from 2232.4 to 3671.0 MeV. The corresponding effective electromagnetic form factor of the proton is deduced under the assumption that the electric and magnetic form factors are equal $(|G_{E}|= |G_{M}|)$. In addition, the ratio of electric to magnetic form factors, $|G_{E}/G_{M}|$, and $|G_{M}|$ are extracted by fitting the polar angle distribution of the proton for the data samples with larger statistics, namely at $\sqrt{s}=$ 2232.4 and 2400.0 MeV and a combined sample at $\sqrt{s}$ = 3050.0, 3060.0 and 3080.0 MeV, respectively. The measured cross sections are in agreement with recent results from BaBar, improving the overall uncertainty by about 30\%. The $|G_{E}/G_{M}|$ ratios are close to unity and consistent with BaBar results in the same $q^{2}$ region, which indicates the data are consistent with the assumption that $|G_{E}|=|G_{M}|$ within uncertainties.

Observation of a Neutral Structure near the $D\bar{D}^{*}$ Mass Threshold in $e^{+}e^{-}\to (D \bar{D}^*)^0π^0$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.226 and 4.257 GeV

A neutral structure in the $D\bar{D}^{*}$ system around the $D\bar{D}^{*}$ mass threshold is observed with a statistical significance greater than 10$σ$ in the processes $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{+}D^{*-}π^{0}+c.c.$ and $e^{+}e^{-}\rightarrow D^{0}\bar{D}^{*0}π^{0}+c.c.$ at $\sqrt{s}$ = 4.226 and 4.257 GeV in the BESIII experiment. Assuming the presence of a resonance, its pole mass and width are determined to be ($3885.7^{+4.3}_{-5.7}$(stat)$\pm 8.4$(syst)) MeV/$c^{2}$ and ($35^{+11}_{-12}$(stat)$ \pm 15$(syst)) MeV, respectively. The Born cross sections are measured to be $σ(e^{+}e^{-}\to Z_{c}(3885)^{0}π^{0}, Z_{c}(3885)^{0} \to D\bar{D}^{*})=(77 \pm 13$(stat)$\pm 17$(syst)) pb at 4.226 GeV and ($47 \pm 9$(stat)$ \pm 10$(syst)) pb at 4.257 GeV. We report the first observation of the Dalitz decay $η' \to γe^+e^-$, based on a data sample of 1.31 billion $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector. The $η'$ mesons are produced via the $J/ψ\to γη'$ decay process. The ratio $Γ(η' \to γe^+ e^-)/Γ(η'\toγγ)$ is measured to be $(2.13\pm0.09(\text{stat.})\pm0.07(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-2}$. This corresponds to a branching fraction ${\cal B}(η' \to γe^+e^-)= (4.69 \pm0.20(\text{stat.})\pm0.23(\text{sys.}))\times10^{-4}$. The transition form factor is extracted and different expressions are compared to the measured dependence on the $e^+e^-$ invariant mass. Observation of the electromagnetic doubly OZI-suppressed decay $J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}$

Using a sample of $1.31$ billion $J/ψ$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we report the observation of the decay $J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}$, which is the first evidence for a doubly Okubo-Zweig-Iizuka suppressed electromagnetic $J/ψ$ decay. A clear structure is observed in the $K^{+} K^{-}$ mass spectrum around 1.02 GeV/$c^2$, which can be attributed to interference between $J/ψ\rightarrow ϕπ^{0}$ and $J/ψ\rightarrow K^{+}K^{-}π^{0}$ decays. Due to this interference, two possible solutions are found. The corresponding measured values of the branching fraction of $J/ψ\to ϕπ^{0}$ are $[2.94 \pm 0.16\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.16\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-6}$ and $[1.24 \pm 0.33\text{(stat.)} \pm 0.30\text{(syst.)}] \times 10^{-7}$.

On the origin of multi-component bulk metallic glasses: Atomic size mismatches and de-mixing

The critical cooling rate $\mathcal{R}_c$, below which liquids crystallize upon cooling, characterizes the glass-forming ability (GFA) of the system. While pure metals are typically poor glass formers with $\mathcal {R}_c>10^{12}\, {\rm K/s}$, specific multi-component alloys can form bulk metallic glasses (BMGs) even at cooling rates below $\mathcal {R}\sim 1\, {\rm K/s}$. Conventional wisdom asserts that metal alloys with three or more components are better glass formers (with smaller ${\cal R}_c$) than binary alloys. However, there is currently no theoretical framework that provides quantitative predictions for $\mathcal{R}_c$ for multi-component alloys. We perform simulations of ternary hard-sphere systems, which have been shown to be accurate models for the glass-forming ability of BMGs, to understand the roles of geometric frustration and demixing in determining $\mathcal {R}_c$. Specifically, we compress ternary hard sphere mixtures into jammed packings and measure the critical compression rate, below which the system crystallizes, as a function of the diameter ratios $σ_B/σ_A$ and $σ_C/σ_A$ and number fractions $x_A$, $x_B$, and $x_C$. We find two distinct regimes for the GFA in parameter space for ternary hard spheres. When the diameter ratios are close to $1$, such that the largest ($A$) and smallest ($C$) species are well-mixed, the GFA of ternary systems is no better than that of the optimal binary glass former. However, when $σ_C/σ_A \lesssim 0.8$ is below the demixing threshold for binary systems, adding a third component $B$ with $σ_C < σ_B < σ_A$ increases the GFA of the system by preventing demixing of $A$ and $C$. Analysis of the available data from experimental studies indicates that most ternary BMGs are below the binary demixing threshold with $σ_C/σ_A < 0.8$.

P-MaNGA: Emission Lines Properties - Gas Ionisation and Chemical Abundances from Prototype Observations

MaNGA (Mapping Nearby Galaxies at Apache Point Observatory) is a SDSS-IV survey that will obtain spatially resolved spectroscopy from 3600 Å to 10300 Å for a representative sample of over 10000 nearby galaxies. In this paper we present the analysis of nebular emission line properties in 14 galaxies obtained with P-MaNGA, a prototype of the MaNGA instrument. Using spatially resolved diagnostic diagrams we find extended star formation in galaxies that are centrally dominated by Seyfert/LINER-like emission, which illustrates that galaxy characterisations based on single fibre spectra are necessarily incomplete. We observe extended LINER-like emission (up to $\rm 1 R_{e}$) in three galaxies. We make use of the $\rm EW(H α)$ to argue that the observed emission is consistent with ionisation from hot evolved stars. We derive stellar population indices and demonstrate a clear correlation between $\rm D_n(4000)$ and $\rm EW(H δ_A)$ and the position in the ionisation diagnostic diagram: resolved galactic regions which are ionised by a Seyfert/LINER-like radiation field are also devoid of recent star formation and host older and/or more metal rich stellar populations. We also detect extraplanar LINER-like emission in two highly inclined galaxies, and identify it with diffuse ionised gas. We investigate spatially resolved metallicities and find a positive correlation between metallicity and star formation rate (SFR) surface density. We study the relation between N/O vs O/H on resolved scales. We find that, at given N/O, regions within individual galaxies are spread towards lower metallicities, deviating from the sequence defined by galactic central regions as traced by Sloan $3''$ fibre spectra. We suggest that the observed dispersion can be a tracer for gas flows in galaxies: infalls of pristine gas and/or the effect of a galactic fountain.

Precision measurement of the $D^{*0}$ decay branching fractions

Using 482 pb$^{-1}$ of data taken at $\sqrt{s}=4.009$ GeV, we measure the branching fractions of the decays of $D^{*0}$ into $D^0π^0$ and $D^0γ$ to be $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)=(65.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ and $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ)=(34.5\pm 0.8\pm 0.5)%$ respectively, by assuming that the $D^{*0}$ decays only into these two modes. The ratio of the two branching fractions is $\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0π^0)/\BR(D^{*0} \to D^0γ) =1.90\pm 0.07\pm 0.05$, which is independent of the assumption made above. No significant signal is observed and upper limits on $σ[e^{+} e^{-} \rightarrow γY(4140)] \cdot \mathcal{B}(Y(4140)\rightarrow ϕJ/ψ)$ at the $90\%$ confidence level are estimated as 0.35, 0.28, and 0.33 pb at $\sqrt{s} = 4.23$, 4.26, and 4.36 GeV, respectively.

Using a sample of $2.25\times 10^8$ $J/ψ$ events collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider, we search for the $J/ψ$ semi-leptonic weak decay $J/ψ\to D^{-}_{s} e^{+}ν_{e}+c.c.$ with a much higher sensitivity than previous searches. We also perform the first search for $J/ψ\to D^{*-}_{s} e^{+}ν_{e}+c.c.$ No significant excess of a signal above background is observed in either channel. At the $90\%$ confidence level, the upper limits are determined to be $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to D^{-}_{s}e^{+}ν_{e}+c.c.)<1.3\times10^{-6}$ and $\mathcal{B}(J/ψ\to {D^{*}_{s}}^{-}e^{+}ν_{e}+c.c.)<1.8\times10^{-6}$, respectively. Both are consistent with Standard Model predictions.

Searches for isospin-violating transitions $χ_{c0,2} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}$

We present the first upper-limit measurement of the branching fractions of the isospin-violating transitions $χ_{c0,2} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}$. The measurements are performed using $106\times 10^{6}$ $ψ(3686)$ events accumulated with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII $e^{+}e^{-}$ collider at a center-of-mass energy corresponding to the $ψ(3686)$ mass. We obtained upper limits on the branching fractions at a 90\% confidence level of $B(χ_{c0} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}) < 1.6 \times 10^{-3}$ and $B(χ_{c2} \rightarrow π^{0} η_{c}) < 3.2 \times 10^{-3}$.

Study of $e^+e^-\toωχ_{cJ}$ at center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV

Based on data samples collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII collider at 9 center-of-mass energies from 4.21 to 4.42 GeV, we search for the production of $e^+e^-\to ωχ_{cJ}$ ($J$=0, 1, 2). The process $e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c0}$ is observed for the first time, and the Born cross sections at $\sqrt{s}$=4.23 and 4.26 GeV are measured to be $(55.4\pm 6.0\pm 5.9)$ and $(23.7\pm 5.3\pm 3.5)$ pb, respectively, where the first uncertainties are statistical and the second are systematic. The $ωχ_{c0}$ signals at the other 7 energies and $e^+e^-\to ωχ_{c1}$ and $ωχ_{c2}$ signals are not significant, and the upper limits on the cross sections are determined. By examining the $ωχ_{c0}$ cross section as a function of center-of-mass energy, we find that it is inconsistent with the line shape of the $Y(4260)$ observed in $e^+ e^-\toπ^+π^-J/ψ$. Assuming the $ωχ_{c0}$ signals come from a single resonance, we extract mass and width of the resonance to be $(4230\pm8\pm6)$ MeV/$c^2$ and $(38\pm12\pm2)$ MeV, respectively, and the statistical significance is more than $9σ$.

Study of $χ_{cJ}$ decaying into $ϕ$ $K^*(892)$ $\bar{K}$

Using a data sample of 106 million $ψ(3686)$ events collected with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII storage ring, we study for the first time the decay $χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{0}_S K^{\pm}π^{\mp}$ and $χ_{cJ}\toϕK^{+} K^{-}π^{0}$ in the E1 radiative transition $ψ(3686)\toγχ_{cJ}$. The decays are dominated by the three-body decay $χ_{cJ}\to ϕK^*(892)\bar{K}$. We measure branching fractions for this reaction via the neutral and charged $K^*(892)$ and find them consistent with each other within the expectation of isospin symmetry. In the $K\bar{K}π$ invariant mass distribution a structure near the $K^*(892)\bar{K}$ mass threshold is observed, and the corresponding mass and width are measured to be $1412\pm4(\mathrm{stat.})\pm8(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}/c^2$ and $Γ$ = $84\pm12(\mathrm{stat.})\pm40(\mathrm{sys.}) \mathrm{MeV}$, respectively. The observed state favors an assignment to the $h_1(1380)$, considering its possible $J^{PC}$ and comparing its mass, width and decay mode to those reported in the Particle Data Group.

Study of decay dynamics and $CP$ asymmetry in $D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e$ decay

Using 2.92~fb$^{-1}$ of electron-positron annihilation data collected at $\sqrt{s} = 3.773$~GeV with the BESIII detector, we obtain the first measurements of the absolute branching fraction $\mathcal{B}(D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e) = (4.481 \pm 0.027(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.103(\mathrm{sys.}))\%$ and the $CP$ asymmetry $A_{CP}^{D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e} = (-0.59 \pm 0.60(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 1.48(\mathrm{sys.}))\%$. From the $D^+ \to K^0_L e^+ ν_e$ differential decay rate distribution, the product of the hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element, $f_{+}^{K}(0)|V_{cs}|$, is determined to be $0.728 \pm 0.006(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.011(\mathrm{sys.})$. Using $|V_{cs}|$ from the SM constrained fit with the measured $f_{+}^{K}(0)|V_{cs}|$, $f_{+}^{K}(0) = 0.748 \pm 0.007(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.012(\mathrm{sys.})$ is obtained, and utilizing the unquenched LQCD calculation for $f_{+}^{K}(0)$, $|V_{cs}| = 0.975 \pm 0.008(\mathrm{stat.}) \pm 0.015(\mathrm{sys.}) \pm 0.025(\mathrm{LQCD})$.

Study of Dynamics of $D^0 \to K^- e^+ ν_{e}$ and $D^0\toπ^- e^+ ν_{e}$ Decays

In an analysis of a 2.92~fb$^{-1}$ data sample taken at 3.773~GeV with the BESIII detector operated at the BEPCII collider, we measure the absolute decay branching fractions to be $\mathcal B(D^0 \to K^-e^+ν_e)=(3.505\pm 0.014 \pm 0.033)\%$ and $\mathcal B(D^0 \to π^-e^+ν_e)=(0.295\pm 0.004\pm 0.003)\%$. From a study of the differential decay rates we obtain the products of hadronic form factor and the magnitude of the CKM matrix element $f_{+}^K(0)|V_{cs}|=0.7172\pm0.0025\pm 0.0035$ and $f_{+}^π(0)|V_{cd}|=0.1435\pm0.0018\pm 0.0009$. Combining these products with the values of $|V_{cs(d)}|$ from the SM constraint fit, we extract the hadronic form factors $f^K_+(0) = 0.7368\pm0.0026\pm 0.0036$ and $f^π_+(0) = 0.6372\pm0.0080\pm 0.0044$, and their ratio $f_+^π(0)/f_+^{K}(0)=0.8649\pm 0.0112\pm 0.0073$. These form factors and their ratio are used to test unquenched Lattice QCD calculations of the form factors and a light cone sum rule (LCSR) calculation of their ratio. The measured value of $f_+^{K(π)}(0) |V_{cs(d)}|$ and the lattice QCD value for $f^{K(π)}_+(0)$ are used to extract values of the CKM matrix elements of $|V_{cs}|=0.9601 \pm 0.0033 \pm 0.0047 \pm 0.0239$ and $|V_{cd}|=0.2155 \pm 0.0027 \pm 0.0014 \pm 0.0094$, where the third errors are due to the uncertainties in lattice QCD calculations of the form factors. Using the LCSR value for $f_+^π(0)/f_+^K(0)$, we determine the ratio $|V_{cd}|/|V_{cs}|=0.238\pm 0.004\pm 0.002\pm 0.011$, where the third error is from the uncertainty in the LCSR normalization. In addition, we measure form factor parameters for three different theoretical models that describe the weak hadronic charged currents for these two semileptonic decays. All of these measurements are the most precise to date.

Exciton Valley Dynamics probed by Kerr Rotation in WSe2 Monolayers

We have experimentally studied the pump-probe Kerr rotation dynamics in WSe$_2$ monolayers. This yields a direct measurement of the exciton valley depolarization time $τ_v$. At T=4K, we find $τ_v\approx 6$ps, a fast relaxation time resulting from the strong electron-hole Coulomb exchange interaction in bright excitons. The exciton valley depolarization time decreases significantly when the lattice temperature increases with $τ_v$ being as short as 1.5ps at 125K. The temperature dependence is well explained by the developed theory taking into account the exchange interaction and a fast exciton scattering time on short-range potentials.

Fast neutron scattering on Gallium target at 14.8 MeV

Benchmarking of evaluated nuclear data libraries was performed for $\sim 14.8$ MeV neutrons on Gallium targets. The experiments were performed at China Institute of Atomic Energy(CIAE). Solid samples of natural Gallium (3.2 cm and 6.4 cm thick) were bombarded by $\sim 14.8$ MeV neutrons and leakage neutron energy spectra were measured at 60$^{\circ}$ and 120$^{\circ}$. The measured spectra are rather well reproduced by MCNP-4C simulations with the CENDL-3.1, ENDF/B-VII and JENDL-4.0 evaluated nuclear data libraries, except for the inelastic contributions around $E_{n} = 10-13$ MeV. All three libraries significantly underestimate the inelastic contributions. The inelastic contributions are further studied, using the Talys simulation code and the experimental spectra are reproduced reasonably well in the whole energy range by the Talys calculation, including the inelastic contributions.

Evidence for a Snow Line Beyond the Transitional Radius in the TW Hya Protoplanetary Disk

We present an observational reconstruction of the radial water vapor content near the surface of the TW Hya transitional protoplanetary disk, and report the first localization of the snow line during this phase of disk evolution. The observations are comprised of Spitzer-IRS, Herschel-PACS, and Herschel-HIFI archival spectra. The abundance structure is retrieved by fitting a two-dimensional disk model to the available star+disk photometry and all observed H2O lines, using a simple step-function parameterization of the water vapor content near the disk surface. We find that water vapor is abundant (~10^{-4} per H2) in a narrow ring, located at the disk transition radius some 4AU from the central star, but drops rapidly by several orders of magnitude beyond 4.2 AU over a scale length of no more than 0.5AU. The inner disk (0.5-4AU) is also dry, with an upper limit on the vertically averaged water abundance of 10^{-6} per H2. The water vapor peak occurs at a radius significantly more distant than that expected for a passive continuous disk around a 0.6 Msun star, representing a volatile distribution in the TW Hya disk that bears strong similarities to that of the solar system. This is observational evidence for a snow line that moves outward with time in passive disks, with a dry inner disk that results either from gas giant formation or gas dissipation and a significant ice reservoir at large radii. The amount of water present near the snow line is sufficient to potentially catalyze the (further) formation of planetesimals and planets at distances beyond a few AU.

On the detection and tracking of space debris using the Murchison Widefield Array. I. Simulations and test observations demonstrate feasibility

The Murchison Widefield Array (MWA) is a new low frequency interferomeric radio telescope. The MWA is the low frequency precursor to the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) and is the first of three SKA precursors to be operational, supporting a varied science mission ranging from the attempted detection of the Epoch of Reionisation to the monitoring of solar flares and space weather. We explore the possibility that the MWA can be used for the purposes of Space Situational Awareness (SSA). In particular we propose that the MWA can be used as an element of a passive radar facility operating in the frequency range 87.5 - 108 MHz (the commercial FM broadcast band). In this scenario the MWA can be considered the receiving element in a bi-static radar configuration, with FM broadcast stations serving as non-cooperative transmitters. The FM broadcasts propagate into space, are reflected off debris in Earth orbit, and are received at the MWA. The imaging capabilities of the MWA can be used to simultaneously detect multiple pieces of space debris, image their positions on the sky as a function of time, and provide tracking data that can be used to determine orbital parameters. Such a capability would be a valuable addition to Australian and global SSA assets, in terms of southern and eastern hemispheric coverage. We provide a feasibility assessment of this proposal, based on simple calculations and electromagnetic simulations that shows the detection of sub-metre size debris should be possible (debris radius of >0.5 m to ~1000 km altitude). We also present a proof-of-concept set of observations that demonstrate the feasibility of the proposal, based on the detection and tracking of the International Space Station via reflected FM broadcast signals originating in south-west Western Australia. These observations broadly validate our calculations and simulations.

Measurements of atmospheric neutrinos and antineutrinos in the MINOS Far Detector

This paper reports measurements of atmospheric neutrino and antineutrino interactions in the MINOS Far Detector, based on 2553 live-days (37.9 kton-years) of data. A total of 2072 candidate events are observed. These are separated into 905 contained-vertex muons and 466 neutrino-induced rock-muons, both produced by charged-current $ν_μ$ and $\barν_μ$ interactions, and 701 contained-vertex showers, composed mainly of charged-current $ν_{e}$ and $\barν_{e}$ interactions and neutral-current interactions. The curvature of muon tracks in the magnetic field of the MINOS Far Detector is used to select separate samples of $ν_μ$ and $\barν_μ$ events. The observed ratio of $\barν_μ$ to $ν_μ$ events is compared with the Monte Carlo simulation, giving a double ratio of $R^{data}_{\barν/ν}/R^{MC}_{\barν/ν} = 1.03 \pm 0.08 (stat.) \pm 0.08 (syst.)$. The $ν_μ$ and $\barν_μ$ data are separated into bins of $L/E$ resolution, based on the reconstructed energy and direction of each event, and a maximum likelihood fit to the observed $L/E$ distributions is used to determine the atmospheric neutrino oscillation parameters. This fit returns 90% confidence limits of $|Δm^{2}| = (1.9 \pm 0.4) \times 10^{-3} eV^{2}$ and $sin^{2} 2θ> 0.86$. The fit is extended to incorporate separate $ν_μ$ and $\barν_μ$ oscillation parameters, returning 90% confidence limits of $|Δm^{2}|-|Δ\bar{m}^{2}| = 0.6^{+2.4}_{-0.8} \times 10^{-3} eV^{2}$ on the difference between the squared-mass splittings for neutrinos and antineutrinos.

The Daya Bay Reactor Neutrino Experiment has measured a non-zero value for the neutrino mixing angle $θ_{13}$ with a significance of 5.2 standard deviations. Antineutrinos from six 2.9 GW$_{\rm th}$ reactors were detected in six antineutrino detectors deployed in two near (flux-weighted baseline 470 m and 576 m) and one far (1648 m) underground experimental halls. With a 43,000 ton-GW_{\rm th}-day livetime exposure in 55 days, 10416 (80376) electron antineutrino candidates were detected at the far hall (near halls). The ratio of the observed to expected number of antineutrinos at the far hall is $R=0.940\pm 0.011({\rm stat}) \pm 0.004({\rm syst})$. A rate-only analysis finds $\sin^22θ_{13}=0.092\pm 0.016({\rm stat})\pm0.005({\rm syst})$ in a three-neutrino framework.

Effect of co-doping of donor and acceptor impurities in the ferromagnetic semiconductor Zn1-xCrxTe studied by soft x-ray magnetic circular dichroism

We have performed x-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS) and x-ray magnetic circular dichroism (XMCD) studies of the diluted ferromagnetic semiconductor Zn$_{1-\textit{x}}$Cr$_\textit{x}$Te doped with iodine (I) or nitrogen (N), corresponding to electron or hole doping, respectively. From the shape of the Cr $2p$ absorption peak in the XAS spectra, it was concluded that Cr ions in the undoped, I-doped and lightly N-doped samples are divalent (Cr$^{2+}$), while Cr$^{2+}$ and trivalent (Cr$^{3+}$) coexist in the heavily N-doped sample. This result indicates that the doped nitrogen atoms act as acceptors but that doped holes are located on the Cr ions. In the magnetic-field dependence of the XMCD signal at the Cr $2p$ absorption edge, ferromagnetic behaviors were observed in the undoped, I-doped, and lightly N-doped samples, while ferromagnetism was considerably suppressed in heavily N-doped sample, which is consistent with the results of magnetization measurements.

Dynamics of a bistable Mott insulator to superfluid phase transition in cavity optomechanics

We study the dynamics of the many-body state of ultracold bosons trapped in a bistable optical lattice in an optomechanical resonator controlled by a time-dependent input field. We focus on the dynamics of the many-body system following discontinuous jumps of the intracavity field. We identify experimentally realizable parameters for the bistable quantum phase transition between Mott insulator and superfluid.

Hamiltonian chaos in a coupled BEC -- optomechanical cavity system

We study a hybrid optomechanical system consisting of a Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) trapped inside a single-mode optical cavity with a moving end-mirror. The intracavity light field has a dual role: it excites a momentum side-mode of the condensate, and acts as a nonlinear spring that couples the vibrating mirror to that collective density excitation. We present the dynamics in a regime where the intracavity optical field, the mirror, and the side-mode excitation all display bistable behavior. In this regime we find that the dynamics of the system exhibits Hamiltonian chaos for appropriate initial conditions.

On the Carriers of the 21 Micron Emission Feature in Post-Asymptotic Giant Branch Stars

The mysterious 21micron emission feature seen in sixteen C-rich proto-planetary nebulae (PPNe) remains unidentified since its discovery in 1989. Over a dozen of materials are suggested as the carrier candidates. In this work we quantitatively investigate eight inorganic and one organic carrier candidates in terms of elemental abundance constraints, while previous studies mostly focus on their spectral profiles (which could be largely affected by grain size, shape and clustering effects). It is found that: (1) five candidates (TiC nanoclusters, fullerenes coordinated with Ti atoms, SiS$_2$, doped-SiC, and SiO$_2$-coated SiC dust) violate the abundance constraints (i.e. they require too much Ti, S or Si to account for the emission power of the 21micron band, (2) three candidates (carbon and silicon mixtures, Fe$_2$O$_3$, and Fe$_3$O$_4$),while satisfying the abundance constraints, exhibit secondary features which are not detected in the 21micron sources, and (3) nano FeO, neither exceeding the abundance budget nor producing undetected secondary features, seems to be a viable candidate, supporting the suggestions of Posch et al. 2004.
