Some isomorphism results for graded twistings of function algebras on finite groups

We provide isomorphism results for Hopf algebras that are obtained as graded twistings of function algebras on finite groups by cocentral actions of cyclic groups. More generally , we also consider the isomorphism problem for finite-dimensional Hopf algebras fitting into abelian cocentral extensions. We apply our classification results to a number of concrete examples involving special linear groups over finite fields, alternating groups and dihedral groups.

Gerstenhaber-Schack and Hochschild cohomologies of Hopf algebras

We show that the Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology of a Hopf algebra determines its Hochschild cohomology, and in particular its Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomological dimension bounds its Hochschild cohomological dimension, with equality of the dimensions when the Hopf algebra is cosemisimple of Kac type. Together with some general considerations on free Yetter-Drinfeld modules over adjoint Hopf subalgebras and the monoidal invariance of Gerstenhaber-Schack cohomology, this is used to show that both Gerstenhaber-Schack and Hochschild cohomological dimensions of the coordinate algebra of the quantum permutation group are 3.

Random walk questions for linear quantum groups

We study the discrete quantum groups $Γ$ whose group algebra has an inner faithful representation of type $π:C^*(Γ)\to M_K(\mathbb C)$. Such a representation can be thought of as coming from an embedding $Γ\subset U_K$. Our main result, concerning a certain class of examples of such quantum groups, is an asymptotic convergence theorem for the random walk on $Γ$. The proof uses various algebraic and probabilistic techniques.

Quantum invariants of deformed Fourier matrices

We study the deformed tensor products of complex Hadamard matrices, $L_{ia,jb}=Q_{ib}H_{ij}K_{ab}$. One problem is that of reconstructing the quantum group $G_L\subset S_{NM}^+$ out of the quantum groups $G_H\subset S_N^+,G_K\subset S_M^+$ and of the parameter matrix $Q\in M_{N\times M}(\mathbb T)$, and we obtain here several results, including complete results in the Fourier matrix case, $H=F_N,K=F_M$, when the parameter matrix $Q$ is generic.

Hopf algebras having a dense big cell

We discuss some axioms that ensure that a Hopf algebra has its simple comodules classified using an analogue of the Borel-Weil construction. More precisely we show that a Hopf algebra having a dense big cell satisfies the above requirement. This method has its roots in the work of Parshall and Wang in the case of q-deformed quantum groups GL and SL. Here we examine the example of universal cosovereign Hopf algebras, for which the weight group is the free group on two generators.

Half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebras

A half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebra is a Hopf *-algebra generated by the self-adjoint coefficients of an orthogonal matrix corepresentation $v=(v_{ij})$ that half commute in the sense that $abc=cba$ for any $a,b,c \in \{v_{ij}\}$. The first non-trivial such Hopf algebras were discovered by Banica and Speicher. We propose a general procedure, based on a crossed product construction, that associates to a self-transpose compact subgroup $G \subset U_n$ a half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebra $\mathcal A_*(G)$. It is shown that any half-commutative orthogonal Hopf algebra arises in this way. The fusion rules of $\mathcal A_*(G)$ are expressed in term of those of $G$.

Finite quantum groups and quantum permutation groups

We give examples of finite quantum permutation groups which arise from the twisting construction or as bicrossed products associated to exact factorizations in finite groups. We also give examples of finite quantum groups which are not quantum permutation groups: one such example occurs as a split abelian extension associated to the exact factorization $\mathbb S_4 = \mathbb Z_4 \mathbb S_3$ and has dimension 24. We show that, in fact, this is the smallest possible dimension that a non quantum permutation group can have.

Examples of inner linear Hopf algebras

The notion of inner linear Hopf algebra is a generalization of the notion of discrete linear group. In this paper, we prove two general results that enable us to enlarge the class of Hopf algebras that are known to be inner linear: the first one is a characterization by using the Hopf dual, while the second one is a stability result under extensions. We also discuss the related notion of inner unitary Hopf *-algebra.

Hopf algebra deformations of binary polyhedral groups

We show that semisimple Hopf algebras having a self-dual faithful irreducible comodule of dimension 2 are always obtained as abelian extensions with quotient Z_2. We prove that nontrivial Hopf algebras arising in this way can be regarded as deformations of binary polyhedral groups and describe its category of representations. We also prove a strengthening of a result of Nichols and Richmond on cosemisimple Hopf algebras with a 2-dimensional irreducible comodule in the finite dimensional context. Finally, we give some applications to the classification of certain classes of semisimple Hopf algebras.

Quantum automorphisms of twisted group algebras and free hypergeometric laws

We prove that we have an isomorphism of type $A_{aut}(\mathbb C_σ[G])\simeq A_{aut}(\mathbb C[G])^σ$, for any finite group $G$, and any 2-cocycle $σ$ on $G$. In the particular case $G=\mathbb Z_n^2$, this leads to a Haar-measure preserving identification between the subalgebra of $A_o(n)$ generated by the variables $u_{ij}^2$, and the subalgebra of $A_s(n^2)$ generated by the variables $X_{ij}=\sum_{a,b=1}^np_{ia,jb}$. Since $u_{ij}$ is "free hyperspherical" and $X_{ij}$ is "free hypergeometric", we obtain in this way a new free probability formula, which at $n=\infty$ corresponds to the well-known relation between the semicircle law, and the free Poisson law.

Hopf images and inner faithful representations

We develop a general theory of Hopf image of a Hopf algebra representation, with the associated concept of inner faithful representation, modelled on the notion of faithful representation of a discrete group. We study several examples, including group algebras, enveloping algebras of Lie algebras, pointed Hopf algebras, function algebras, twistings and cotwistings, and we present a Tannaka duality formulation of the notion of Hopf image.

The lazy homology of a Hopf algebra

To any Hopf algebra H we associate two commutative Hopf algebras, which we call the first and second lazy homology Hopf algebras of H. These algebras are related to the lazy cohomology groups based on the so-called lazy cocycles of H by universal coefficient theorems. When H is a group algebra, then its lazy homology can be expressed in terms of the 1- and 2-homology of the group. When H is a cosemisimple Hopf algebra over an algebraically closed field of characteristic zero, then its first lazy homology is the Hopf algebra of the universal abelian grading group of the category of corepresentations of H. We also compute the lazy homology of the Sweedler algebra.
